Dr. Ustach is a very good teacher. He is very enthusiastic and seems to love what he does. He explains things really well and draws lots of cartoons to simplify things. He has a good sense of humor too! I never thought I would like this class but I really do. Lots of work and not an easy A but good
VERY GOOD TEACHER!!! not that easy but as long as you go, take notes and do your stuff you will do great!!! His tests are strictly on lecture and very intersting....ine of the most intertaining instructers ever!!!
I never thought I would enjoy a science class, but Mr. Ustach is funny w/ his lectures & explains things really clearly. Tests are straight from lecture, so if you go & take notes, you'll do fine on the tests. Always willing to help you on the labs, which aren't too hard & were due at the end of the semester. Definitely take!
This class was not hard at all, but I found it necessary to attend every lecture. The tests are easy, but lab crosswords and questions are a pain in the butt. Expect to work on the at least 2 hours per week, and towards the end of the semester, expect at least 3 to 4 hours of lab homework per week.
I had a great time in his class and he was very entertaining and always enthusiastic about teaching. He was always willing to answer questions and would even go on the internet to give examples if someone had a question about something, or bring in a specimen for us to see the next day. He went out of his way to help.
nice teacher, recomand it for non-bio majors
Mr. Ustach is very enthusiastic about his work. He incorporates cartoon drawings and a sense of humor in his lectures. The tests are fairly simple if you study the material. Pay attention in class! 85% of the exam Q's are based on LECTURES.

KICK ASS TEACHER! No joke, i thought i was gonna hate this class but he makes it so much fun. The cartoons are hilarious, it helps me understand everything so much more! U want this teacher, hes awesome...
DR. USTACH IS THE BEST BIO TEACHER. HE MAKES CLASS FUN, BECAUSE HE IS HILARIOUS AND THE CARTOONS BRING HUMORS IN CLASS. THE BEST PART OF BEING IN HIS LAB CLASS IS THE SOOTHING AND RELAXING MUSIC THAT HE PUTS ON THAT WILL DRIVE A PERSON TO SLEEP. I WOULD RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE WHO WANTS TO TAKE A BIOLOGY CLASS TO TRANSFER AND HE IS FAIRLY EASY IF U STUDY AND TAKE NOTES, AND GO TO CLASS.
He's hilarious!
Mr. Ustach ROCKS!!! Its an easy class. I totally enjoy the field trip it was totally amazing! He makes lab and lecture fun fun fun! And is very clear with every thing he teaches. I dont usually show up for lecture but then again i still do good for the exams. The lab is important though. My favorite biology teacher indeed! Very approachable also!
I DONT WHAT CLASS THESE OTHER PEOPLE WHERE IN BUT THIS GUY IS ....... OH PLEASE DONT TAKE THE CLASS WITH HIM!
Great teacher. Really cares about his students. He makes biology fun. Go to class, pay attention, and you'll do great. Tests are not that hard, IF YOU STUDY.
he should be teaching art class
He does well at explaining the many concepts that you will go over and has a good sense of humor. The labs were pretty dull, but they're probably more exciting in the fall/spring semesters instead of summer. 50% of each test requires writing while the other 50% is multiple choice. As long as you study you'll be fine.

He is a good teacher. Not the hardest class, but not an easy A either. His lectures are interesting and funny. As long as you study you'll be fine. Good class to take to fulfill general ed science requirement.
Dr. Ustach is just awesome. The class is fairly easy. No need to read the text, just study lecture notes. He provides study guide. Easy 1 page lab exams (turn in next lab) and a Field Trip!!! Recommended.
Great teacher, very funny, cares about his students and that they understand the topics. Makes this a fun subject, and makes learning fun
I've been at Delta for a couple years now and he is by far the coolest teacher I've ever had. He made the class interesting, he is hilarious, and I learned something new everyday. The tests are pretty hard, but I still recommend him. You just have to make sure you study.
He is an excellent teacher! He makes Biology fun. His class isn't an easy ride but if you work hard he you will do fine. Make sure you show up everyday and read.
i hate biology, thats just how i am. but Dr. Ustach made this class fun for me and i actually paid attention and enjoyed going to class.
Really cool guy. Great teacher too. Lectures are interesting and he encourages creativity in lab. Plays great music before and during class...i mean what teacher will play Miles Davis AND the Suicidal Tendencies for you.
Dr. U is a good teacher, but he isn't very helpful if you ask questions.
he's excited about his topics so it makes the student more interested, and he understands that his students aren't bio majors and teaches accordingly
Dr.U is a great teacher.he helps explain anything you ask him and if he doesnt know the answer he'll try to help you figure it out.he makes class fun and jokes around alot.he made me like going to class.hilarious, but it is a hard class so u need to study&take notes during lecture.the book is a must have but u never need to bring it to class
he easy on the eyes if you ask me and he makes class interesting, just be sure to take notes and study the end of chapter reviews in the text some of the essay questions seem to come from that. i hate science and i got a good grade!!
Dr. Ustach's class was fun, and fairly easy. As with all classes, studying is necessary. The tests are good, the lectures are fun, and the labs are interesting. A warning: DO NOT MISS THE LECTURES. He often asks questions about them, and although you may find them in the book, they won't quite have the same meaning.
he's sexy
Dr. U is a great teacher. He is very interested in his work and it shows. His lectures are never boring but cover everything you need to know. As long as you go to lecture and do SOME reading you will do good in his class. I am glad to see that I am not the only one that has a crush on him ;)
Ok, so the class is almost over and I'm actually feeling rather sad that its over. None the less I learned a great deal of information in Dr U's class. He's definitely an excellent teacher with awesome teaching skills...an asset to delta college. He offers plenty of office hours which i took advantage of. BUT most importantly...HE'S SOO CUTE ! lol
THIS CLASS GREW ON ME. I HAD NO INTEREST AT FIRST BUT DR U MADE IT INTERESTING. THE LECTURES ARE VERY IMPORTANT- MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE BOOK. TAKE GOOD NOTES OR BRING A RECORDER. THE BOOK IS RARELY USED- MOSTLY FOR EXTRA EXPLINATION. I WOULDN'T SAY DR U IS HOT- BUT HE'S DEFINITELY COOL!(AND HE'S MARRIED) I WOULD RECOMMEND BIO 10 WITH DR U TO ALL!
One the best professors DELTA has...I learned so much in Bio 10..I'd pay extra per unit for a class with him,if I had to take another Science class..lol..not a difficult class..very good subject...taught by a very knowledgeable guy
Doctor U is hecka cool! i totally suggest taking his class! lectures are totally not boring and often makes funny jokes. i suggest you to bring a recorder to class to listen to the same lecture more than once. although he doesnt take attendance for lecture he takes attendance for labs. remember what he says and always look over your notes right aft
Dr. U is an awesome teacher. He made learning so much fun... his little cartoons or awesome too!
come to class, pay attention, study and you will pass. Not the easiest class but by no means is it difficult if you put in effort. GREAT lectures. I found him intimidating to approach to ask questions, since he was slightly rude a few times i went to ask something, but i think it could just be his personality, or maybe a bad day?Overall recommend h
This was my favorite class of the semester! Dr. U is a fantastic teacher, his lectures are very helpful, and they are funny too. The labs were always fun, and I learned a lot of new things about Bio from the course. You get 5 tests, but can drop the lowest one. I highly recommend that everyone should take Dr. U for any Bio courses =D
Dr. U is the best. He is so helpful youll get hand-outs, study guides and have a whole lot of fun. I loved the trip to Big Tree's. He kept me laughing in class with his unusal lecturing style. He's the best. Take him you wont regret it.
Good dude, backed hard. Would take again.
for class and take plenty of notes. He is straight up with the test quiestions and material.
He is a really good Bio prof. Just take notes and use the textbook as a guide and you'll do fine. Also the labs are easy and it helps with understanding the matireal better. Make sure you sit next to a good lab partner, they will become your best friend.
Other than the daily reminder by him that Bio 10 is for idiots, he's a great instructor. The class is very straightforward. If you put forth half an effort you'll do fine.
Dr U is awesome. the labs are fairly easy and his lectures arent too bad. i hate science but his lectures are always interesting because of his sense of humor as well as his vast knowledge of the material. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
Dr. U is a really cool guy. He was right when he said this class takes A LOT of your time. there are 2 parts to this class, lab and lecture. you HAVE to go to both which equal up to 3 hours of your day. this class would have been easy if the stupid lecture exams were not so effin hard.
Easy labs, but the exams were pretty difficult if you didn't study or read the chapters at all. No study guide which was a pain because there was so much information that I studied and read that ended up not being on the exams. Overall, I'm not a fan of his teaching style. But oddly enough, I liked the class and had fun.
Ok, so this is not the easiest class I have ever taken. Let me put it to you this way: I like biology, I'm good at it, I loved his class, his lectures were funny and interesting, but his tests are hard. They consist of about 30 multiple choice, Short answer Q's,and three essay Q's. He grades hard on essay q's, and is very specific. Easy but hard.
he's hilarious and teaches well. he makes biology fun, but his tests are kinda hard though. just study what he teaches and you'll be okay.but study more than you usually do, because the tests are kinda long and there're question you gotta answer too.
Really easy class. If you took biology in high school, that is pretty much all you need. I NEVER went to his lectures but still managed to do really well. The lab portion can be a bit boring because all you do is draw most of the time, but it is entertaining. Best of all, there is a field trip!
I loved this class! I'm not a bio major, but Ustach made the information fun, engaging and entertaining. I learned a lot from this class and having such a fun teacher made me want attend. The class itself is not particularly hard but if you don't go to class the tests will be difficult. I would recommend this teacher to anyone who has to take bio!
To be honest, he is nice as a person. But he gives unrealistic assignments. Have to read 6-8chapters and you have tests every other week! Hardd class.
Basically if you plan on slackin don't even bother. This class can be tough if you don't take notes or go to lecture. Just study study study and you'll be fine. Would have been one of the best classes ever if the exams weren't so hard. 7 chapters with no study guide is a little too much to ask for.
God, I LOVE Dr. U's class!! He often crack funny jokes and tells the most interesting stuff ever! And the best part about his class is you get to go to the fieldtrip! Man, it would've been nice if his tests wasn't so hard though-__- Oh well, it was definitely worth it<3
Funny teacher. Don't call him MR. U or else he will call you out. Labs aren't that difficult. Don't miss lectures. Tests can be difficult IF you don't read the book. Highly recommend you read the assigned chapters to pass the class, since he does not hand out study guide or review in class. Field trip is a must to pass along with a field report.
Pretty good class overall. Labs are straight forward, lectures aren't too bad. Its a good idea to attend lecture and read the book. Tests are pretty easy, as long as you take notes during lecture and at least skim the chapters. Pretty funny guy, too. Plays good music during lab, for what its worth
Very funny guy, turns things into jokes alot! You do need to look at your textbook before midterms and he tells you what chapters to look at. Hard to fail his class unless you are stupid or lazy or both. You shounldn't sleep in his class (he isn't boring). but try not to be taller than him or he will hate you! (kidding)
Dr U is a great teacher! i hated anything that had to do with bio/science until his class. he makes things interesting & "dumbs" things down. idk why people are saying u have to read the book. Go to lecture & pay attention, ask questions, & maybe go over the book if you are still unsure of certain subjects, besides that you'll be fine! great class!
IF you want an A, have to go to every lecture, read every chapter, even his opening sentence is a true or false question in test. do the end of chapter quizzes to study. I loved this class, I got an A, I learned so much, it had become who I am. But, many sleepless nights!!!
You have to read the chapters and go to lecture if you want to do well in the class. Field trip and report wasn't too hard, but tests can be a challenge without lecture/chapters. Great professor, he got me interested in Biology. Amazing for learning.
So he is a great teacher and he is always ready to answer any questions you may have. I used the book a lot but most of his questions come from his lectures and labs. Attending both is very important to pass this class. I pretty much changed my major to biological sciences after this class. I didn't realize science could be so amazing!
Mr.u is a great teacher. helps you understand the materail. make sure to read before going to class. he is vey funny! Favorite part was the feild trip! Mr.U gives interesting facts that you never think of, and things that you will never forget. GREAT TEACHER!
Make sure to read each chapter and go over the review questions. He makes the class and labs fun. His tests can be difficult, make sure to go to his office hours or ask for help if you need it. DON'T MISS CLASSES. Other than that he is a great teacher. I would recommend him.
The overall class was easy. The field report/field trip seemed really irrelevant to the class. I felt like we were learning more of Horticulture/Geography on this trip rather than biology.
He lectures very well. However he is not necessarily the nicest when it comes to asking him questions. He seems annoyed whenever I did which discouraged me from doing so. It was difficult for me, but overall he is not a bad teacher when it comes to lectures but his tests where difficult even with notes and reading the chapters over and over
Great Professor. Lectures are interesting, you learn a lot. Study for exams. Quizzes are fun and easy. Don't procrastinate, duhh.
Had the greatest time learning biology ever. Great professor to have. Would recommend him to anybody
Dr. Ustach's class is a challenge but it is really interesting and fun. He keeps you interested and makes jokes out the lectures. Super cool guy and really wants you to learn. His test are not hard but you do have to study. The test have 25 quest. multiple choice, 3 essay quest. and 5 short answer quest.
I took Dr. Ustach in the spring and he changed my whole perspective on biology. It is a general biology class but I still learned a lot from him. The tests were easy enough if you study your notes. Labs were easy. They were hands on and all you have to do is show up and do the work that is set up for the day. Easily my favorite professor at Delta
Mr. Ustach was very accomodating to my family emergency even setting up a lab test i missed (with proper documentation)which was really awesome being that any other biology teacher would have not. I missed lecture 90% of the time but studied the book and was able to pass. I could have gotten a better grade but I procrastinated on my studies.
Dr. U is amazing!! Not only does he really know his stuff, he has a way of making biology appeal to everyone. His lectures are super funny and even though he says it's okay to skip, I would recommend being there. You learn so much in his labs and the field trip is amazing too!! I wish I could take this class again, fantastic professor!
HE IS AN AMAZING PERSON, VERY INTELLIGENT... ALL THE CONTENTS OF THE EXAMS ARE IN THE LECTURES AND IN THE BOOKS. READ THE BOOK PRIOR TO CLASS AND YOU'LL GET A "B" EASILY . I DID IT ON THE BEGINNING ONLY AND GOT A 90% THE FIRST TEST. I DID NOTHING ELSE BESIDES PAYING ATTENTION TO THE LECTURES (ESL PERSON) AND GOT A "C" AT THE END. PRETTY FAIR.
Dr. Ustach is a great professor! He makes Biology interesting to learn. You don't need to buy the textbook- you won't need it. The tests are based on the lectures so make sure you go to class! The lab practicals are super easy. Make sure you take time into writing your paper because he grades them pretty tough. The field trip is amazing as well!
Dr. Ustach is an amazing professor. He is very intelligent and knows what he's talking about. He is pretty funny during lectures, so you won't ever get bored. If you plan on taking his class, be prepare to spend a little more extra time on this class because this subject is not easy.
Dr. Ustach was an awesome teacher. Super helpful and his class was extremely informative. He really understands that those taking Bio 10 aren't going to be science majors so the content was easy to understand. He also lets you drop one of your five exams. Great course.
Lectures are not mandatory but lab is. More often than not, though, lectures will have info textbook doesn't provide. I only went to lecture and never studied, and I did very well. Class is for non-science majors. Don't waste your time if you are a science major. Ustach was great, I wish he taught other bio specific classes!
Received an A, took 16 units total for the semester. His class is very doable, I never read the book but I went to every lecture and never got below a 90 on tests. Just take good notes, condense them, and study those. Supplement book as needed. 5 Tests (drops lowest), final, 25 or so labs, 3 lab practicals (easy-ish), and a paper (put time into it)
Paul Ustach is very funny and great at his lectures. It is important to take come to class everyday and take good notes. Surely, you will pass his class. Also, his labs are extremely fun and super easy.
Ustach is very nice & is funny. He lets you drop one exam grade. No HW. Just make sure your labs are completed to turn in next class. Labs are super easy btw, but tests are CRITICAL. If you want to pass his exams, go to lecture every day, read the chapter in the book and do chapter review if possible. This class WILL take up a lot of your time.
Usually classes are pretty straight forward but this class really was probably one of the hardest ones I have taken this semester. He is a hard test grader, lectures are a MUST if you want to pass and the textbook will become your best friend. DO NOT miss any labs or exams because it is extremely rare for him to let you make them up.
This was my favorite class at Delta so far. If you are interested in Biology, but it isn't your major, TAKE THIS COURSE! Dr. Ustach is very knowledgeable in the field, and lectures are full of information. You will get the grade you earn in this course. Attend every lecture and lab, take good notes, and you'll do well and learn a lot.
Ustach's Bio 10 class is as straightforward as can be. I'm glad I didn't buy the book because I didn't use it at all. You can have it as reference, but everything you need to study and take notes on are all from his lectures. Do NOT slack off on labs. Your lowest exam score will be dropped. He is hands down one of the best professors at Delta!
He's probably one of the best professors I've ever had and was very patience despite my millions of dumb questions. He's funny so it makes lectures a little more light hearted and very easy to pay attention to.
By far worst teacher I have taken here at Delta. He grades extremely hard with no feedback, if you take him you should be a bio major otherwise good luck.
If you are not good at taking tests do not take his class. I am currently in it and I am drowning with work. He does not curve any grades provide study guides or help out at all aside from dropping lowest test score. Collects lab right when class starts, late by a second lab is deducted points.
1) A tough grader Written answers determine 50% of exam score. 2) Graded by few things Aside from labs, you really don't have any opportunities to raise your grade. Everything else is an exam, or lab practical. 3) Tests are tough You will not know what to study for, going into an exam. I have a problem with this- figure it out yourself.
Prof. Ustach took biology and made it interesting. He had a funny sense of humor and often times tried to lighten the mood in his classroom. His lectures are detailed and very important so don't miss lecture classes! The power points are good to view on your personal time but they aren't enough, Read the chapters!!
Dr. Ustach is one of my favorite professors so far at Delta. I started the semester off really bad because I absolutely abhor science but he made it real life. I was so amazed with the labs. You really have to go to the lectures because most of the exams questions are from lecture. Inspires me to take another science class again. A must take!
Great class, would recommend it again.
One of my favorite teachers i've ever recalled having. You learn so much from his class and its not just straight out of the textbook kind of material but interesting facts that he shares with the class. YLabs are easy, 3-4 exams, and 1 field trip with follow up report. This class will be easy for you if you have a little background in sci classes.
He was an amazing professor who was really passionate about what he was teaching and actually wants the students to pass. It isnt an easy class however. The tests were hard, but with studying theyre passable. Labs are mandatory, but very fun and cool. The lectures can be a little boring at times, but take notes. Mandatory field trip that was fun!
The best of the west. My man, Paul is a cool professor who teaches the importance of Biology. If you take him, ask him to play the "I like to move it, move it" song from the movie Madagascar during lab class time. He will sure play it and make the class worth it. GO PROFESSOR PAUL! He is awesome.
I took it over the summer, and we had five exams and three lab practicals. Lab practicals aren't difficult if you study the labs, but in my opinion he grades way too harshly on the discussion questions for the exams. Doesn't really offer extra credit that's easy to get. Mandatory field trip with a field report, not difficult but a long day.
Paul is an OK teacher. I will agree with the other students, the lectures are interesting and hes very passionate about what he teaches. However, he is not very friendly one on one, and his labs were only worth 4 points. As opposed to his tests, being 100 points. Be ready for tests every 2 weeks covering 5-7 chapters.
Prof. Ustach's lectures are interesting, funny & informative. He is a natural at teaching! Tests are tough, but if you attend class and lab regularly and take good notes, you should be fine. One mandatory field trip and subsequent report, but it was a fun day. I would absolutely recommend taking him for Bio 10!
This class is heavily based on tests from lectures and chapters from the book. He gives no study guide , curve, or extra credit. The class average for his exams would be in the 50s and 60s. He makes the subject harder than it should be by grading his essay questions too harsh. Also a mandatory field trip you need to go or you wont pass. Goodluck.
Professor Ustach is very knowladgeable in the subject. His lectures are very informative and hes always happy to explain/clarify beyond topic. Don't be late to labs. show up to lecture. study for the lab practicals and exams and you will be fine. There is no homework unless you dont finish the lab in class. Totally recommend him.
Ustach is ok It is very hard to discern what is going to be on his tests. I took his class during the summer session and although it was fast-paced it was difficult to study for tests. Labs were only 3 points and the field trip was fun but in my opinion, the tests were the most difficult portion of the class. Pay close attention to specimens in lab
Professor Ustach is an okay teacher. He is very knowledgable on the subject but he doesn't make is exciting. He has heavy lectures and lab is very light but important for practicals. He is not specific,no extra credit, and is a tough grader. This class is for people who mostly learn by listening, you will get what you earn. plus one mandatory trip.
Taking notes and being mentally present in lectures is very important. Reading the book will get you far, but he stresses certain things in lecture and they always end up on the tests. Overall I enjoyed his class!
Prof. Paul recommends reading the book lol don't! This class 10x easier than Zoo. Most lab questions are multiple-choice and he will go around campus to get lab exam material(plants). Lecture exam, hard because of the written section. Grades extremely harsh and don't like to answer questions or give points back. Multiple-choice is from PP!!
Professor Ustach is a very easy going professor. There were daily lab assignments which were easy. He says the book is required, but all exam questions were straight from lecture. There were 6 exams and 4 lab practicals. Practicals were a little disorganized but easy. He drops the lowest exam score. No field trip or presentation due to COVID-19.
Dr. Ustach is funny, but a no nonsense grader. You earn your grade in his class, but he makes the learning interesting. He has group projects as well as a field trip that is mandatory to attend or you wont pass. If youre okay with the subject of biology, but it isnt your strong suit, take Ustach, and he will make it fun for you.
online summer class full semester in 6 weeks. read your assignments and you will do fine. Not a hard class, if you read. I was .38% or 1 more correct question from an A for the semester.... and he does not offer extra credit. You get what you earn. however, he seemed to have a personality and that was appreciated.
I took Bio 10 this past summer semester with Professor Ustach. Professor Ustach is pretty easy going & made concepts from the book clear & concise in his lecture notes. Only homework were the labs & his tests were mainly based off his lecture notes. Its not a hard class, but your grades will heavily rely on your tests and labs.
You work for your grade. No extra credit whatsoever. To get an A, you really have to do well on labs and exams. I studied more for Bio10 than my chemistry class. This semester he went online, exclusively taught on campus. His tests are tricky/timed at 60 minutes 44 question M/C & short answer. Labs are 25-30 minutes for 25 questions.
This was extremely difficult to pass online. You do about 20 labs, but all of them are only worth 4 points no matter how many questions there are. Additionally, you can't go back and check answers on tests and they are the thing your grade is counting on since labs weigh so little. I would not recommend taking this professor's online class.
The 2.0 rating on 3/15/2021 gives misleading information. Labs made up 100 points--same score as any of the tests and is weighted exactly the same as the tests. The class, IMHO, is not very difficult to pass but does require you to understand the material assigned as well as memorize random stuff. Make sure to take notes on everything.
Ironically, the person before me who complained about someone giving misleading info also gave misleading info themselves. What they probably meant to say was that labs *collectively* make up 100 points which is true. Ustach is definitely not an easy A -- you do need to do the work to get a good grade.
He is a great professor. Took this class online. There are about 4 labs a week that are very simple that are due on Sundays. There are lab tests which are ok in terms of difficulty. Then there are lecture test which are more difficult. As long as you do your reading, you'll be ok. He gives great feedback during labs and very helpful if needed
He was Ok but it was confusing how to learn bio in online and that why think it was diffuult for me to understand. He's ok professor. Heavy test grades.
Botany with Paul Ustach is an absolute treat that I only wish could've gone on for longer. He is very clear in his lectures and makes them very engaging to keep them interesting. Never once in this class did I feel the professor overburden me nor assign an unfair amount of work. His tests are not super tricky or difficult either. 10/10 all the way!
Great professor who is very passionate about teaching students about biology. He is funny and very easy going, he makes his own labs with interesting and vital information for quizzes. You can tell he loves what he does and it shows in the work he gives his students. I loved this class and I would highly recommend Professor Ustach.
passionate about the material which i think makes him a perfect fit for teaching this class. personally it was just a lot of reading and assignments, but it was manageable overall.
solid class. He is open abt it being a class that is not designed for non bio majors. He hopes to instill an appreciation for biology in students. You must show up to every class for the labs (just participation) and turn them in next class. The tests are 95% from online lecture, 5% book. Mandatory field trip funny he drop a test we all did bad on
I had a very good time in Professor Ustach's class. He makes great use of videos, specimens and taxidermy to illustrate the diversity of life. I feel lucky that the class was in person and not online so as to not miss out on the experience. If you take his class, make sure to read your textbook. I'm glad he was one of my first Professors at SJDC.
Dr. Ustach was an amazing professor. He is passionate about the subject and nature. He likes to joke during lectures. The only downside of this class was the grading system. There is no homework or other work besides 5 exams, labs, a field trip report, and 2 lab practicals. The exams have a big impact, and he drops the lowest exam score.
Great professor. Makes lectures funny, clear, and allow students to share their thoughts. Open for questions outside of lecture time. Organized with lectures. Finished lectures as timed in syllables. Grades based on labs, exams, and a field trip report. Most of the grade depends on exams. Wish he gave other work that can make exams less impacting.
He is a good professor, I missed a week and was still able to get a good grade he was super lenient let me make up tests and stuff super awesome, me and all of my friends loved his class definitely recommend
He's a pretty fire Professor, his labs aren't too difficult, and lectures can be boring. Very test heavy.
super cool and funny prof. but he is very strict when it comes to grading. drops one test. Dont believe anything he says of whats ONLY going to be on the test. EVERYTHING is and he will randomly switch the question format. Just graded on labs and exams. don't miss lecture bc he throws in info that is not on the ppt slides but will be on the test.
Prof. Ustach is a very chill professor, he makes a lot of dad jokes which is pretty funny. He's super chill but can also be very serious, especially when it comes to grading. There is NO EXTRA CREDIT but a very cool field trip that you get to go on. This course is very test heavy so make sure to study hard! His lectures can be boring and long btw.
Be ready to study your notes from the lectures. He's pretty funny at times too. His tests can be difficult if you miss a day of class because he says more information in person than what's on the slides. We had 5 exams, and he drops your lowest grade. You get to go on a cool field trip also. His labs are easy. Overall, he's a solid professor.
Genuinely such a good professor. He sparked my love for botany so much that I decided to minor in it. Very funny, super caring, very much willing to go over the same topic again and again to make sure you get it. Tests are difficult to predict, but not horrible or unfair. Labs are easy, lab practicals are a little harder, but overall, great class!!
Professor Ustach brings passion for biology that makes the lectures engaging. Lots of reading and labs, but manageable if you stay on top of it. Definitely take advantage of unstuck study for extra practice - it really helps prep for the exams.
Must be present for lectures since PPTs have little info. Exams (6) are unpredictable & mostly multiple-choice. Memorize names, stats, & mini facts. 30 sec per question in lab practicals (3). Required all-day field trip & a grade-boosting report. Good energy, but looks annoyed when I ask/answer questions. Knowledgeable & passionate w/ bad feedback.
He is a pretty cool guy, old fashioned in some ways, but he is not terrible. Science is not my strong suit so take that into consideration, but I thought his tests were pretty hard to take although his class itself was fun. You do learn quite a bit from him and you get to go on field trips again. He is also very caring, nice, and knowledgeable.
Class itself is straightforward, lectures are mandatory since PPT'S have little info he speaks about the slides in lec. Lab practicals are easy, exams are simple a lot of memorization & unpredictable. He is stingy with PPT'S & info in a way. Lots of studying, field trip/ report which is easy. Only labs, exams, and field trip report are due here.
Paul is probably my favorite professor at Delta. The class is tough—mainly the exams—but your lowest out of 6 gets dropped. I personally barely studied, just showed up and took notes. If you stay on top of things, you'll be fine. Not for slackers though—trust me.
He's a cool guy for sure, he doesn't give homework which is cool, but he is very test heavy, and the tests are back to back with a minimal of two weeks of time between them, he also gets annoyed when you ask questions, I recommend a different professor if you have the chance.
Lectures are mandatory as PPTs provide minimal information. No study guides, grading curves, or extra credit; grading is strict. Six exams require memorization, and lab practicals allow only 30 seconds per question. The professor is not very helpful with questions or re-grading.
Don't let the low reviews scare you. This class is definitely not for low academic quality students and slackers. I do agree with his feedback not being so great and with the tests being sort of difficult, but if you use the textbook as well to study for the exams and truly pay attention, you will pass. He's not going to hold your hand.
