What a fun professor! I hated Biology in high school but what he taught was actually applicable to my life- and easy to understand! I wish he taught the entire semester of the course! The tests are ok- you really have to study. Going to class really helps you to understand the material too.

Enjoyable teacher, but boring subject matter right after lunch kept me from attending regularly. Quite a few test questions seemed to be lecture based, too. If you take his class, you have to go to lectures... Even though he tricks you into assuming otherwise.

This guy was able to make going to bioloogy an interesting and enjoyable task, even for me, someone who hates science. This class is not very hard and the prof is very funny. He is an animal behaviorist, he watches them have sex...and he talks about it a lot.

All Dr. Verrell had to do was lecture once and I was hooked! He did a guest lecture for Bio 107 and left us drooling.. He's very fascinating and knowledgable, and seemed very prepared. Too bad I'm a science major or I would rush to Bio 102!

Verrell makes Bio fun and interesting. I was dreading the calss but he made me look forward to attending.

Very funny and approachable Professor. It is important to attend his lectures because his exam questions are all based off of his lectures. He posts his lecture outlines on his website which are very helpful; I didn't find this out until after I bombed the first exam. Do the practice exams as well!

Teaches the first 9 weeks and 2 exams... then Dave "Stop Whispering" Evans takes over. Great guy, loved his lectures... exams are fair and funny. Personality is awesome. Has an english accent... "Lets go get a beer at Rico's, yea"

Awesome teacher! If you need to take biology, this is the guy to do it with. Tests are easy if you actually go to class, and he keeps you pretty entertained while you're there. Very good at explaining concepts, great sense of humor.

Don't buy the text, you do not need it...if you take good notes and go to class. I got an A. If you can answer everything on his study guide, you will do fine. Take good notes, know all on study guide / understand = A in the class! It is a really easy class to have, which is nice for Pre - Vet. I spent 8 hours per test studying to get an A.

Crazy guy with an English Accent. Makes class fun and interesting. I hated Biology before I took him. He teaches stuff that is actually good to know, which is great for a non-biology major. Go to class, take notes, don't worry about the book!

Paul Verrell was a very interesting teacher! I loved the way he taught and I wish he could had stayed with us through the whole year!

Crazy guy, in a good way, for the most part. What happened to him was really weird, but if he comes back, just know his tests were easy and you just have to come to class and listen to do well on them.

The most entertaining prof you'll ever have in a science! Keeps you paying attention in lecture with his energetic and humorous teaching style. You don't even really need to read the book, just go to lecture and take notes and go to lab and forget the text book.

Dr. Verrell is knowledgeable and tunes his classes to his audience, majors and non alike, assuming you don't sit there like a dead fish. He is also witty and charismatic in front of the class. Go to class, contribute, and enjoy learning. He makes it just that easy. He is also a great adviser to students, ask for his help.

Great teacher, funny and has an english accent! Explains things clearly, and doesn't tell you stuff you don't need to know for tests - keeps it as simple as possible. Provides study guides, and if you know the concepts on them you'll do fine on the tests. I hate labs in general, but the one for this class isn't too bad either. This class was really easy. I didn't even use the book once. Don't buy, it is a waste of money. Verell made the class interesting with his witty, british humor. He doesn't put up slides to take notes on so you have to really pay attention to what he is saying. Don't skip. it'll end up hurting you on the exams. Exams were all based off lectures

Interesting lectures, not mandatory but will help extremely when reading through textbook. Come to test review with specific questions, or else he will not review in detail for exam. Labs are easy, GO (helps lecture grade). He's friendly and helpful when confused about topics discussed in class

What can I say, this guy is a GENIUS. His way of teaching is just amazing. Lecutres are very interesting and does an amazing job explaining the material. Just give effort for the labs and a lot of stydying and you will pass it with an A+. He gives you all the study guides needed to pass a test, so its just up to you on how well you study. TRUST ME

A bloody brilliant teacher. Humorous and engaging in his lectures. Really does have a British accent (not overpowering, refreshing actually). Didn't cover anything that wasn't already in my high school biology class. Skip high school biology; take your biology from Verrell instead!

Not enough praise could be said, by far my favorite teacher. Material he covers is interesting and he explains it so well it appears simple. If you want a bio class take one of his, I looked forward to his lectures, can you honestly say that about a Biology class? I can! His humor is spot on too, funny guy.

Verrell is a really great guy, easy teacher, gets to the point and it's simply a review of what was learned in high school biology. The tests taken are always put up online so if you have a friend with the class, definitely get the test. I didn't go to any classes after the first test and I have a B+ in the class overall! Labs are easy!!

Verrell has got to be one of the funniest professors out there! His sexual humor is ace. There was no textbook required for this course so you save some money on a useless book and the class wasn't too difficult at all! If you need to take Bio, get Paul, you won't regret it.

Very, very, very easy class. It's honestly just a review of high school biology. Class isn't mandatory, and neither is the text book, but you should have one or the other (if you don't go to class, get the textbook EARLY as it sells out later). Labs are an easy A, just read the 2 pages assigned.

Verrell is a highly engaging and helpful instructor. If you show up and pay attention (which isn't hard with him), you're almost guaranteed to get an A. He pushes his students to learn outside of class and is very approachable in his office hours. I highly recommend Verrell to anyone taking a bio course, whether you are a science major or not.

I am not interested in biology but he is a very animated lecturer and makes it entertaining. His tests are super easy, just go to class and you'll probably be able to pass the tests without a problem. Don't bother with the textbook, mine is still wrapped in plastic, haven't needed to use it at all.

Really funny and helpful explains concepts really well, I would recommend that people take BIO 106 over 102. 102 is an easy A if you study and you don't even need the textbook but it can also be boring and feel like high school biology at times.

Biology 102 really came down to the TAs. Aside from the two major tests, the grading fell under the TAs and labs. His lectures were entertaining and educational, however! I didn't ever need the textbook, though you do need a workbook for your lab (unless you have a friend in your lab who has the workbook - group assignments share the same paper)

Dr. Verrell In my opinion Is truly one of the most well equipped professors to teach students in the lecture setting. He Is clear, smart, funny at times too! and what caught attention, which is something he's sorta born with i guess is his accent! other than that he's pretty easy to approach too. I'd totally take this class again.

Great teacher, made class pretty entertaining at times. If you skip you will get pretty bad grades on exams. He definitely knows what he talks about as well as loves what he does. Listen to him when he says not to skip. Other than that enjoyed his class and you don't need a book.

Professor Verrell is incredibly knowledgeable and tries hard to make biology relatable to all majors. His lectures are interesting and I thoroughly enjoyed attending his class. I highly recommend this class!

I have a class following Dr. Verrell's lectures. My first day of school I accidentally sat down for his class. I've gone to school early every day since and sat in his lectures just to work on things while he talks. He is THE gold standard in presentation at WSU.

He makes lectures as easy to understand as he possibly can. He really specified what we need to know and what we dont need to know which is very helpful when the exam comes along.

This class is test heavy. Your grade for the class comes from 100% tests and your lab grade comes from homework, lab write ups, and quizzes. Overall easy class but you do have to study for tests. Read the little (free) textbook, come to class, use the study guide and sample test and you will be in good shape. Really great prof, nice and engaging!

Dr. Verrell is a quality guy who obviously cares a lot about what he teaches. His grading scale is very lenient, and although there are multiple exams, they aren't worth as large of a portion of your grade as you would think, and his review sessions ensure you know what is going to be on the tests. Really easy class, but I learned a lot!

Definitely recommend (professor wise) lab and exams are the only thing that is graded.

Great professor and class for an easy A. He changes his grading scale so getting an A is easier than in most classes. He is passionate about what he teaches and is always willing to answer questions.

Dr. Verrell is not only passionate about what he teaches, but he's very good at it! He makes great effort (in fantastic power points and clear lectures) to be sure that everything is understood. You're bound to learn something new and fun everyday. Show up and sit up close everyday and you're guaranteed to pass.

AWESOME CLASS

Oh Verrell, not many people can make a lecture hall of 500 feel personal, but he can. Solid information, exams are very doable, helpful study guides and is always very honest. Attendance is not taken in lecture for good reason(again massive lecture hall), but is taken in the labs, which are mandatory. The How to be a Scholar worksheets are stupid.

By far my all-time favorite lecture to attend in my schedule, only ever missed class once! Although this course is for non-majors, he does a great job finding a way to make science interesting and engaging. I feel like I genuinely learned about topics relevant to what's going on in the news today. Not gonna lie I'll miss it!

FUNNY GUY, ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR TA FOR YOUR GRADES IN THE LABS. HE INCORPORATES MEMES IN HIS LECTURES.

A challenging class, although that should be expected. His lectures are incredibly entertaining and he makes the subjects enjoyable. The exams will be challenging if you skip lecture. Dont miss more than 1 lab as you will fail the entire course. Hes a funny guy and very approachable during office hours, he loves to talk to students as well.

Without a doubt the best professor I have had here in 2 years.

Contrary to what someone else said, Verrell DOES have study guides for each and every exam (3) besides the final. He is a good professor and knows what hes doing. The only downside to this professor is that he teaches bio, which to a lot of students is a boring topic in general. Tests are a little difficult. ALWAYS GO TO YOUR LAB.

He is the best professor at WSU. He makes every lecture interesting. I would recommend him to everyone. Your grade is made up of four exams and your lab work. Also his lectures are on blackboard, if you can't make it to class.

THE best professor. Loves what he teaches and explains the topics clearly. No homework due to class size, but the lab work makes up for it. He is funny, caring, and truly knowledgeable about Biology. His lectures are engaging and thought provoking. He is one of the good ones.

Paul Verrell is literally the best teacher ever. If you just go to class (although its not mandatory and he uses panapto) you will pass the class. His tests can be challenging but he only puts things on the test you have talked about. There are no hw assignements and no essays.

Paul Verrell is the best Biology teacher WSU has. I've taken three of his courses and he is my absolute favorite. He's funny, caring, helpful, and just the best!

I LOVED taking professor Verrells classes. I am now in my second class of his. He genuinely enjoys his work and presentations. He loves teaching. Hes so kind and funny as well. No homework. Tests were always focused on things he told us were important to know. I highly suggest taking any of his classes if you have the chance. You wont regret it.

Verrell is such an awesome, engaging professor and lecturer. You can tell he really cares about his students. The only thing that's graded are the exams but if you go to class you'll be fine-you don't want to miss class anyway it's actually fun. Exams are usually straight off review sessions. I liked that I learned without busy work too. 10/10

I absolutely love Verrell! He's so enthusiastic about what he teaches. There's one paper that counts for a large portion of your overall grade, but he lets you submit drafts during the semester for feedback. He is obviously passionate about what he does and it definitely shows. This is my second class with him, and I've loved both. Great professor!

Verrell is an enthusiastic and engaging professor. His lectures can be a bit scattered, but he clearly loves the subject. The workload is manageable - just a paper and tests focused on key topics. Unstuckstudy was a lifesaver for prep. Overall, a great class to take.
