great teacher, uses humour, self deprecation and most importantly challenge
He's hilarious and makes the time fly. Really makes you think.
What a load of rubbish! You'd learn more watching pop-up video
Paul needs to spend less time in the Zoo.
Ethics from this vulgar man? Give me a break.

University is supposed to be about critical thinking. Get ready to do some...

Very enjoyable, but you can't take anything he says serious.
he is a very interesitn prof when he isnt insulting you

He can give the crap and take it as well, a good prof.
I can't decide what I hated more. His filthy mouth or his text 90% full of himself.
Silly bugger.
One of the most fun clases I've ever had. This guy is an unbelievably amazing teacher.
He definately keeps you on your toes and explains things so they make sense and untill they make sense. I agree that everyone should DEFINATELY take at least one class with him before they leave the U.
His sarcastic, ihsulting, blunt sense of humor was a great wake up call from other dull classes. If you are the sensitive type don't take this class... if you don't mind joking around this is a wicked proff to take...and u actually learn too!
Great lecturer, interesting personality, and his name sounds really cool if you say it over and over. He should write techno music, just to use his name in it.
He really challenges you to think about what you believe in! Everybody should take one course with him while in university!
Don't bother with this guy if you haven't got a brain, because you will need it. Ask him what "the beveler" is.
One of the best teachers at the University. And as for the claims about a foul mouth...Yes, he does have one, but he also warns the class at the beginning of the year that if you are easily offended, you shouldn't take the class from him.

well, where do I start...even though he has no hair there is something attractive about him that women find irresistable ( thats probably why he was married 3 times)but if he was not my prof. I would deffinitely go after him .
ha ha ha ha .irresistable? i don't think so, this man is so rude , and even though he did say that we can bring our essays to him to remark , he doesn't keep his word.Essays are super hard to do because he doesn't give any direction, or any notes.

Fantastic teacher, hugely entertaining. Made me want to be a philospher just so I could be as crazy as him. AND underneath the "fun" exterior he is a really nice guy too. Everyone must experience Viminitz just once at least.
Bottom line Paul is HOT and that is reason enough to take his clasS!
does not clarify anything he says or wants.

Great teacher, ya he can be rude, but he warns us and its the best way to sometimes get the point across. By far one of the best teachers
Extremely Interactive with class ,for better or worse. Graphic examples, but you remember the stuff. Actually looked forward to the class.
Paul likes to talk about how smart he is, how many wives he's had and that one of his ex-wives thinks that he is black. I felt I learnt more about his personal life and nothing about bus. ethics, which is what the class was supposed to be about. Don't take it.
He makes class interesting with memorable examples
What a SEXPOT
get teacher, impossible to get anythign less than a B
Good Prof but a big Chatter box. some time becomes so engrossed in his talks that he forgets the course of topic.
His assignments were ****, he did nothing but talk about useless crap for lectures and I learned nothing. For some people he would be a good prof, but not for me ^^'
probably the funniest prof i've ever had. LOVE paul viminitz
It's very rare to actually learn anything in his class other than the fact that anyone can be a university professor if they have enough hot air. Though if you just want a few cheap laughs he does have some funny things to say even if they are recycled jokes.
Complete waste of time if you have him it would be advised to just use lecture time to read your text. Oppinionated and arrogant be ready for off topic non-sense.
with hardwork or for some people "natural smarts" an A is very possible. Paul is very reasonable in terms of boosting grades to be at reasonable levels if the class average is too low. However, although interesting at times, he was often off topic for a large portions of the classes. Also, he will edit papers ahead of time for you.
Great Prof, however you need to go in with an open mind. If you're expecting an easy class involving regurgitation of data you're in for a suprise, and, more likely than not, will come away with a poor impression. On the other hand if you actually want to learn to how to think, argue and write effective philosophy, then you're in the right class.
Interactive prof, easy to converse with in class. Interesting standpoint on some issues, could use more guidance for essays. Memorable teaching method, only class I look forward to. Best prof i've had yet!
Paul is a great teacher, but definately one who you have to earn your marks from, as he holds writing to a very high standard. That being said, he is very approachable and more than willing to help you clarify your writing- if you work hard an A is atainable- if you slack you may not do so well.
extreamly good, uses examples that actually stick with you and are easy to remeber to make a point
Awesome prof. Funny great teaching method. Thoroughly enjoyed this class.
Ah, Paul Viminitz Interesting man with a knack for socializing. Somewhat lacking an ability to focus on the student(s). Too much attention to his own idea's (too often).
Enjoy his teaching method: he teaches HIS view, and forces you to challenge him on as many levels as you can. However, his lectures tend to meander, and some classes ended up being total write-offs, while others were very entertaining/informative. Not an easy GPA booster, but not terribly hard with some effort.
Had Paul for phil of war, religion and game theory. One of the best profs ever. Great guy and motivator. If he doesn't like you its because you don't read the material.

Take God and Evil with Paul. This guy is too funny for his own good and knows how to get a rise out of students. This class was by far one of the most intellectually stimulating classes I've taken and you will carry much of what you learn with you after you finish the course... ask him to tell the "poo story" and you will be in tears laughing.
paul is fantastic. some of his classes are total write-offs, but let's be serious: you can read the text OR go to class, you don't need both. so, so helpful if you go to his office hours and loves when you voice an opinion. papers are sooo easy to write.
Had Logic 1000, Phil of war and religion. Love his teaching style, papers are almost always only 800 but you got to focus your argument. Able to disagree with him and not lose marks on your paper for it. Very interesting class and I would recommend him to almost anyone, save Management students.
Paul didnt make us buy textbooks, he sent us links to online articles. He will edit your papers as many times as you want before it is due. He also let our class revise and re-submit our first papers after they were due. Paul is one of the funnyest profs I have ever had. He gives fair grades and is very helpful. Overall great prof.
I found this class was really really hard ! For a first year level course, the intelligance level was incrediably high. The essays were super hard and didn't have much direction. He made classes pretty fun but were super hard.
This guy is good.Although there are differences on beliefs and perceptiopns, his policy was there is good right or wrong answer, just as long as you have a good argument.I recommend him, alot of work though.
(pro) Honestly this was one of my favorite professors I've ever had. He engaged the class, used examples and metaphors that made you understand and remember the point discussed. Helps TONS with essay writing. (con) that doesnt help much when you write the essays for him and its a student marker with weird marking philosophies.
He is the best prof i ever had. I love his class and his teaching method. When i had trouble i just went to his office and he helped me.
His classes were good, great information, but he gives you no feedback on your work whatsoever. That was my only problem with the class.
Look up pure beauty in the dictionary and there is probably a picture of Paul Viminitz, Most entertaining and insightful prof I have ever had, lectures were a blast and he was extremely helpful if you visit his office, I cant wait to take more classes with Paul!
Rude, hypocritical, vile, maybe marginally psychopathic... And the best philosophy professor at the U of L. Simply brilliant, whenever someone asks what class they should take I tell them "Take a Viminitz course." Class is easy to attend; Viminitz makes the material interesting. Not necessarily a hard marker, but he expects you to be cogent.
He LOVES to play devils advocate so don't let that scare you off - someones university life isn't the same without a class from him. I find my brain is worked after every class. He makes the material easy to understand.I took PHIL 100 with him and I am taking LOGIC 1000. He is more than willing to help, you can tell he cares.
Awesome, great teacher who makes you think and you learn something new from him each and every class. Take at least one class with paul if your at the U of L, you wont regret it
Fun class. Learned a fair amount. I think Paul wasted far too much time in class. It's surprising his lecturing isn't more disciplined after as long an academic career as his. Good guy, though, and helpful. Bit full of himself, but admits to it.
OMG, Paul is certifiably the most insane self loathing semite on the planet!! (His words not mine) If you want a course that is challenging, fun and thought provoking, take a course from him. Forget all the first year comments, Paul is a rare jewel and my only regret is that I only got to take one course from him!! the U of L is lucky to have him.
Really fun class, but I didn't feel like we learned much. He spent the first 10 weeks wasting time, then forced all the info on us at the end. But he made up for that with tutorial sessions before the final and a really easy exam.
Paul is hilarious! you find yourself attending class just to find out what he will say next. He is extremely helpful in preparing you for exams, unlike other professors, he encouraged students to come see him in his office because "that's what they pay him the big bucks for". Absolutely loved his class!
This ma. Is a philosophical legend....and if he isn't, he should be. If you wish to be pushed until you become good, and you want your mind expanding with unusual asides then take this class. Paul is a riot from beginning, but boy does he know his stuff, and what he doesn't know is 'the ravings of an idiot' anyway. Timmys, double cream NO SUGAR!!!
Paul is insane. Quite possibly literally insane. However, he makes class hilarious while still getting his points across. He is constantly self deprecating and insults each of the members of the class individually. He is obviously super knowledgeable and will help you on your essays multiple times if you go to his office.
Can't say it was the most educational class, but it was definitely the most entertaining. If you're easily offended, I wouldn't suggest taking his class. Overall, he's a reasonable marker and he's very willing to sit down and help you with papers.
Paul represents the calipigian ideal - he is a pro pee ass. That said, he is the most delightful professor. Insanely intelligent and objectionably rude, but a wonderful class experience. He will teach you flamboyantly and enthusiastically, and you should enjoy his random deviations from the subject. Always there for pupils and red inks papers.
Amazing professor. Made sure that student got the concepts before moving on, but it would be strange if you didn't get the concept after he explained it the first time. Rude, but comically so. Take his course if you enjoy the subject matter or if you want to begin liking philosophy.
How can someone so rude and intimidating be so affectionate, caring and supportive? Paul's classes are rewarding, entertaining and insightful.
Great prof.
Great prof, he is a must take at least once by everyone
Paul is awesome in all ways!Panty soup!
Prof. Viminitz is a nice chap but his cockiness led him to write a foolish paper pertaining to terrorism. He presupposed the discredited Official Conspiracy Theory of 9/11 rather than do what serious scholars do and read the critiques first. Prof. Griffin has written 10 books refuting the official story. Dr. Viminitz should have read these works.
The class is a little hard to grasp at times.
Viminitz is one of the most influential profs that I have met. He will always explain a concept to you if you bring it up in class. I highly recommend him as a prof. He does mark the papers pretty hard though. There is no textbook, which is nice. You have to do the readings though if you want to understand the concepts and do well on the papers.
I found the classes to be extremely confusing. Class discussions became easily side tracked. No text book used, but I found the assigned articles to read confusing as well. I recommend taking this class if have an abstract mind, and want to take a "fluffy".
Best prof ever. if you attend his class you will get a good mark. He's funny and makes the class interesting. He will red ink your paper as many times as you want to help you get a good mark and I can't imagine taking a Philo course without him
took Game theory with Paul. Excellent subject matter, excellent professor. Engaging dialogue with entire class. Highly intelligent, clear and interested in student success. Looking forward to more classes with Paul!
He's aware this exists. Giving him a good rating not only because he's a great prof, but also because he whines if he doesn't maintain his Chili Pepper
I took Game Theory and loved it. So then I took War, and found that I was taking the same class. I would recommend Game Theory, but after that you've got the idea.
I have no idea how, but I got an A in this class. Paul is a great prof and he has by far got the best reputation of any phil prof at the U of L. But to be honest, I mostly ended up rating his class (which I took years ago) just to annoy him by not giving him a "hot" rating.
Paul is an amazing professor, he does a great job about making complex discussions simple and memorable. Great teacher to take class with.
He is a funny guy, but if you cannot think philosophically he is literally impossible to understand.
A fun prof to take a class from. He's not easy but its interesting. Dont take his classes if you're easily offended. He encourages class discussion so the lectures are often sidetracked by particular sudents who must add their 2 cents to every subject. Lots of reading is required every week.
Learn to love philosophy - take a class with Paul. He makes the material relevant, he is so very supportive, and I guarantee you will never nod off during a lecture ... and he is hot! (Nice, huh?)
The reincarnation of Thomas Hobbes. Paul is a great professor. Highly entertaining and the open, discussion based style of class makes it all the better.
Paul Viminitz knows his stuff, 'nuff said! Also, he is an excellent story teller. If you pay attention, do the readings, and edit your papers, you will do very well in this class!
Paul's a good prof. Funny, interesting, knows his stuff. Unfortunately all of his classes are the same.
Took a few classes with him. Love his lectures, he is nice to look at and definitely makes class worth going to. :)
Paul will teach you to love philosophy. Intro, Religion, and Game Theory are musts. Paul expects you to write concise, edgy papers, but other than that, his classes aren't difficult. He is an incredible lecturer.
Besides all of his personal qualities - which can rub you right or wrong... Paul's classes are very intellectually engaging. He takes the time to explore theories and challenges students. He will take the most repulsive opinion possible to engage logical and rational thinking. Classes are engaging - be prepared to be brought to the Dark Side.
Paul's a really funny guy, and makes the class interesting. The in class debates were interesting, and he has great stories. Philosophy just wasn't for me. Warning, he can be very offensive, so if you're easily offended you probably shouldn't take this class. He doesn't really mean it though, just has a certain humor.
Class was awesome with paul, interesting funny. But when paul was displeased with essays i wrote i attempted to get help from him towards rewriting it and paul choose to tell me how poor my opinion was rather than aid a student seeking guidance. will never attend another class of his
Hated the class. I generally love philosophy, but his teaching style was definitely not for me. He was rude and crass, therefore I found it very hard to pay attention in class. When I asked for help on my essay, he offered no help at all. When I e-mailed to ask him questions, I'd get a one sentence reply. Would never take a class with him again.
Paul is brilliant with a capital "B"!! This is my favourite class ever!! There is a lot of reading, but the course load is otherwise not heavy. Fantastic discussions! Many of my classmates have expressed this view -- the class matter has importance and relevance to our lives.
He is an awesome prof, makes class interesting, entertaining and worth going to for sure. Easily my favourite prof.
The best philosophy prof at the university by far. Paul is able to joke around with students in a very laid back atmosphere while providing the information to do well.
Awesome prof. I've had him for multiple classes and he's great.
Paul is the best professor at the university.
Paul is an extremely informal speaker and will go to any lengths to get people involved (even if it means ruffling your feathers). Paul is superb at keeping people engaged, but sometimes his vocabulary can be a bit overwhelming if you only have an intro philosophy class under your belt. Be prepared to read, and have some of the best arguments.
Good class. Kept me interested.
Do yourself a favor and take a class with Paul.
Paul is one of the best profs I've ever had. He makes dry material fun, though he's a bit unconventional. If you're easily offended, I don't recommend him, but his teaching style works. There can be tons of reading, but mostly he just wants students to actually understand the material. Highly recommended.
Straight up with everyone. He's not trying to trick you.
Well worth the time and effort you're expected to put in. Life changing-the most useful thing you'll ever take at university.
Fantastic lectures. If you're into the material you are never bored. He gives mini assignments whose answers are right in the reading material. He does have standards when it comes to papers, but they are relatively short. Would take again.
Popular (ie. plays the crowd). Not to be taken seriously. Take his course if you have to, take something else if you just need credits. Find a way to pass and move on. Don't let his ideas linger.
Paul is a great teacher. A little bit dry at times but very straight forward. No midterms or final exam but he assigns a couple (easy) questions each week about the assigned readings. Those are easy marks if you actually do the readings. Couple essays to write but if you go to class and do your stuff is really hard to fail.
Paul is great, but don't take his classes if you are easily offended
Great prof, hilarious lectures. If you're easily offended don't take his class. Definitely recommend.
I am not someone who gets offended easily but half the time I think to myself "Why would you even say that?" A lot of things he says would be better left unsaid but he uses this tactic to try and be funny it seems. He's a great prof but needs to revaluate his humour.
Lots of reading in his class. He is a funny guy. Don't take if easily offended. Boring class but less boring with him. He is very anal about how he likes his essays so beware of that. No finals or tests. just some reading questions every week that aren't too bad.
Viminitz is the best prof at U of L. I am a pursuing a minor in phil solely because of him. An easy class because he is so entertaining & easy to listen to. Plus, you can have him go over your essays beforehand. He spoon feeds you an A. He uses radical examples to drive points home, which upsets simpletons. And you don't have to buy a textbook! A+
Very interesting professor who does a good job keeping engaging and entertaining
Gives helpful feedback through red inking papers Hilariously offensive lectures No tests, only papers and reading assignments You either love him or you hate him
good times.
10/10 Im not done the course yet but I would take again
By far my favourite prof at the University. His offensive humour keeps the class entertaining and almost forces you to engage in the discussion.
Lectures are hard to follow as he goes off on 4 different tangents at once and doesn't clarify most of the points from those tangents, or clarify when he returns from the tangents to his actual material. Makes the class really interesting though! Really good for giving students the opportunity to do better.
Frankly, I don't see what the fuss is about. Sure he's interesting, but I wish I had gotten more out of this class. More interested in students liking him than maximizing learning. I think people continue to take his classes because they know it will be easy, not because they want to learn as much as they can about the subject matter.
Paul is a great prof, but only if you have a good sense of humour and don't take his insults seriously.
I would never take another class with Paul. He was a tough grader and I didn't get my marks back before the final hand in questions and ended up with a bad grade because I thought I was doing well but apparently I wasn't. Terrible feedback. Can't get an A unless you counter argue his own philosophical ideas. Ridiculous for a 1000 level class.
Paul is an amazing professor, who you can really tell loves what he does. The class is very reading heavy, so if you don't like to do the readings don't take the class. I would 100% take a class from him again, he is the reason I switched my minor to philosophy.
Didn't get to experience much of his class this semester due to schedule constraints, but would absolutely sign up for another one of his in a heartbeat if the situation arises. Excellent sense of humour, ready for debate, intellectual and seemingly at home on any topic. Even after only a small sampling of his teaching, I would highly recommend.
funny guy, easy marker, but man do his tangents mess me up. I have no idea what hes talking about for 3/4 of the class.
Paul is my favourite Phil prof at the University
Paul has a very unique teaching style, he will challenge your ways of thinking and ensure that you are able to articulate your point of view. No matter what you say, Paul will play the Devil's Advocate, and he's not one to be bound by political correctness, so if you're easily offended you'd probably prefer someone else.
If you are easily offended, don't take Paul's class. He definitely utilizes tenure! I found his essay grading a little bit harsh but overall a funny guy. Hates management students.
Paul is an interesting prof. His analogies are memorable. Weekly assignments, and he wants students to pass.
Paul is an excellent prof who has a real interest in the subject matter. I would recommend attending lectures both to help your grades, and they are interesting. There is a fair bit of reading so be prepared for it.
Great instructor! Lots of awesome class discussion!
Paul has been my favourite professor and Phil of Religion my very favourite class. He's so passionate about the material, he's very entertaining(class is never boring),and he truly cares about your success. I recommend him and this class to all my friends
Worst class I have ever taken
I took game theory thinking it was something totally different. Good thing I did because Paul is fantastic! The funniest prof you'll ever meet and grades very fairly and wants everyone to succeed, even if they aren't philosophers. (Before you take his class ask yourself if you get triggered easily -If yes, register in a management course, not this)
I'd give him a 7 on the Bristol scale.
Paul is a straight up homie. If you didn't take him in your degree you failed as a student. Best lectures I have ever sat through and keeps the students entertained. A devils advocate that makes you learn how to argue. If you are interested in Law, I highly recommend taking his classes. Few assignments and fair grading!
His classes are almost always 20% weekly response questions, two papers and a take home final exam. The take home final exam is usually 1000 words in length, you'll finish this class before your others so it gives you time on exam break. if you have a tough semester add a Paul class into the mix!
My FAVOURITE prof!
Paul doesn't use moodle. It is frusterating enough to be online but he takes all his assignments and sends them out through moodle. He doesn't give any warning and just sends an email with an assignment that "due tomorrow!" He's also lost 3 of my assignments somehow. Not a class for me.
Paul thinks he's the best prof at UofL. However, the truth is something different. This man couldn't philosophize his way out of a wet paper bag. By his own description he is an atheist, so I'm not sure why anyone would take a Phil of Religion class with him. Big surprise that this vindictive man wrote a paper on "A Defense of Terrorism".
Paul is hilarious and he takes feedback and criticism on his ideas very well. My social science professors should really take his class, after the initial shock and horror, they could really learn something. Take Paul's class! You will feel challenged, but you won't regret it! I even decided to minor in philosophy since taking his class
Paul managed to make an online class fun, highly recommend him as a prof.
The fact he doesn't use moodle really messed with me and complicated my schedule. You also have no idea what your grade is in his class because he doesn't use moodle. Other then this he is a very interesting prof.
Hmmmmmmm honestly take intro to ethics 2001 if you really need to. Paul is not a bad guy, he for sure is interesting and Ill be honest during his lectures I zone out just a bit. Papers arent bad and graded decent. Really doesnt matter
Paul is very intriguing and has lots to say. do not take his class if you are easily offended.
Paul is a great teacher. He explains philosophy in an interesting way. He can be quite offensive but it's just in a way to get you thinking in the terms of philosophy. He is a fair and generous marker. He doesn't operate on moodle though everything is email and handed in on paper. He has quite a sense of humour. Game theory is a cool subject too.
My friends and I played a drinking game with Pauls recorded lectures where we rewatched them at the end of the semester and took a shot every time he said something controversial/politically incorrect. Needless to say I was blackout drunk by the end of it. Hes fine example of what tenure does to a guy.
A very interesting personality and a generous grader. He has a great sense of humour. By the end of the semester it was obvious that he cares deeply for his students. Class involved 2 essays, a reading question to hand in with each class, and a take home final. I would highly recommend taking a class with Paul.
Great prof with perfect lectures. His class consists of papers only but they are not hard to write as long as you attended the classes.
Paul literally cannot control a class. Barely could go through any of the course material without getting sidetracked on whatever controversial topic of the week. Easy tests. You'll be more successful if you only attend to ask questions and teach yourself. Also didn't use moodle, like??
A character but a good prof, because by the end of each class there's always some sort of takeaway. Pay attention to the ideas and philosophers he names. MAKE CONNECTIONS. You don't need a textbook, he gives links. I recommend printing stuff out. STICK TO THE WORD COUNT. He doesn't want you to agree with him. And stick to the syllabus.
TAKE PHIL 1000 WITH PAUL. He is hilarious and if you're sensitive do not take it. It does not seem like there is a method to his madness but there is. He cares about his students and his lectures have a point. Engage with the lectures and discussions and you'll understand the concepts. Makes crazy examples to drive a concept home, it's effective.
just a bad guy
I firmly believe Paul is the most brilliant and impactful professor I've ever encountered. The reviews & perceptions disappoint me. Despite his age, Paul's robust, open-minded belief system is captivating. His use of unusual examples for clarity is remarkably effective. I'm immensely grateful for his exceptional teaching and mind-opening abilities.
Heres the truth: Paul is an amazing professor. Yes, he is really good at driving you crazy, but hes a philosopher, what do you expect? His points can be crude and dismissive, but they do make sense. If you are likely to get offended by current sensitive topics, avoid Paul. If you're looking for something new and refreshing, I highly recommend him
Paul Viminitz uses very good logic to try and justify some very terrible views. His advanced ethics class taught me less about ethics then my introduction to ethics. He peaches academic freedom but creates classroom environments where bigotry is accepted and in addressed but leftist views are degraded and silenced by the bigotry.
You know what, Paul is just about the most incredible, intelligent, hilarious, and caring professor I have ever encountered in my entire academic career. Do NOT take this class if you are easily offended! But, I would highly recommend you do if you can take a joke, and deal with some fantastic unpopular opinions! He is also very empathetic.
Paul is a brilliant and captivating professor. His classes are engaging, though challenging at times. Attendance is a must, and while no textbook is used, Unstuckstudy proved invaluable for study prep. Overall, a mind-opening experience that I'd highly recommend.
