THIS GUY THINKS HE IS OO7 OR SOMETHING , HE THINKS HE IS THE BEST.TIME FOR A REALITY CHECK: HE IS THE MOST BORING TEACHER, VERY HARD ,A STUPID WAY OF EMAILING HOMEWORKS TO HIM.GET A LIFE(A3.8 STUDENT)
Great class, great teacher. Very imformative, and enjoyable. Great learning experience.
Although the instructor is hard, and gives very difficult tests, you will learn your stuff and get a FANTASTIC reference letter from the instructor if you do well in his course... I have got a job on the spot from his reference letter!!
Tests are difficult, but you learn alot. He will help you at any time, but he expects you to be curtious, respectfull, and to work. If you are looking for an easy A, this is not the place. But, if you are looking to learn, then this is the place to be
Very hard course... covers alot of material. Tests are very hard. But, it is the best course that I have ever taken (from a 3.9 student)
For a 3.9 student, you cannot read the survey questions... but I do agree... course is tough, but I learn alot, and it was the best that I have taken so far at PCC.... but don't expect an easy A --- he expects you to know your stuff... and I am a 3.0 stud
OUCH!!! Hardest course I have ever taken, but boy, did I learn alot!!! Tests are from hell... I really had to study... no easy A here...
He will try his best to answer any question you have...otherwise, many details are hidden in text books. ONE HINT: Do the Homework and UNDERSTAND EVERYTHING, then he will be a easy teacher. His Final is luaghable. A remix version of the the****ious test!
Though I had previous knowledge of C, his class is relatively easy, just make sure to do the homework, questions on tests are from homework and previous tests. The final was EASY, pretty much ALL questions from previous tests and homework.
Good teacher, knows his stuff. Suggestion: READ textbook, don't skip anything, and write info on your notecard. After 1st test you'll know. Large number of his test questions are hidden in random areas of the chapter(s). Final was compilation of prev. Q
He is very passionate teacher and willing to help his student in every aspect of computer. Read the textbook before you go to the class otherwise you ain't understand nothing.
he believes the us army invented every single thing that exsist
rambles on and on... why am I here?
open book and take home exam for cs 6 back in 2003.
From a 4.0 stu. Take him if you dare!
Very good teacher You can learn a lot from him. He explain things very thoughly. He very easy on the homework make sure you finished by the end of school year ok by 11:59PM. He will let you know the date
Good teacher. Does a pretty good job of explaining fairly complex stuff. Nice guy, kinda dorky, but he teaches computer science so its ok =]

Very good professor, is eager to help those of us that want to learn... I even saw him help out students in other Computer Science courses. He motivates other students to go for higher degrees. He is very through in his lectures and makes sure everyone understands the consepts. He is just great.
Good teacher, very outgoing. Good at explaining things and how they work. Lectures are very clear and through. Well educated background, so can back up his expertise in Computer Science field. If you do the work will get the grade. Overall excellent quality of teaching.
Great teacher. Fair grading. Hard tests.
Hard class, but I learned alot... teacher goes out of his way to help you...
at your own risk.
Easy course -- it's right out of the book!
he has the title, but he cannot teach!
Follow the book -- the hardest part of the course is the project.
Tests are hard, but this guy bends over backwards to help you... you can ask him a question anywhere on campus and he'll stop and help you...
Just a great guy and very helpful. Very clear and knowledgable. Have never met a teacher this interested in the education of all students, even if they are not enrolled in his courses. He makes everything interesting and he knows his subjects. I can't say the same for many of the CIS instructors.
He is a great teacher. If you are commited to your educational career and intend to be sucessful in Computer Science, take every class this instructor offers. He is very informative and knows his stuff.
he is the best teacher i ve ever met.
Very good teacher will recommand to anyone who wsnts to learn hardware and OS He knows his stuff. His test are hard.
Read the textbook and make an attempt to do the homeworks then you will do well in this class. He teaches everything you need to know for his tests and even some for CS 3A. His style of teaching is very hands on- by giving examples, showing common mistakes, and typing the code during the lecture.
Make sure that you get to know him outside the class.
I would rather take Mr. Johnson than wilkinson. The reason is that he goes on the material so fast. If you are average student or if you are having hard time to grasp C++ logic, DONT TAKE HIS CLASS. Even though i am computer science student, I decided to change my major because of him. DONT TAKE HIS CLASS UNLESS YOU HAVE TAKEN C++ before
Relatively good teacher, the class is rather easy, but still interesting. Don't bring up how useful calculators are :D.
RUN...RUNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!! If i have a ferrari, i cant beat this guy.. he is super-super fast... He goes on the material 500mph..no brakes.. no red light..nothing..

Avoid him if you can..
This guy is super hard. Here is the statistics on the Test 2 (CS 3A). 2 student > 90, 2 students > 80, 4 > students > 70.OTHERS FAILED.(students > 90) passed the test because they took C++ before. He doesnt make the subject easier.Folks, trust me when i say this.DONT BELIEVE OTHERS RATING.I took his class because i looked at his rating before.AVOID
He is very helpful and only wishes to further every student's educational carreer. He tries to make the subject fun and interesting. He goes out of his way to take extra time to explain the subject discussed.
Great teacher and explain very clearly in semiaer class.
Take him!!!
Take him!!! The project is a blast! This dude really knows his stuff... unlike the other profs here at PCC....
bad teacher
Best class I have ever had! Those who think he is bad are fools...
Take him if you plan to transfer to a real school.
Very helpful in all aspects even with advice and references for transfering to University. Made required lab time fun. Also having pizza and doughnut for the finals. Has fun projects such as Dungeons and Dragons, Battleship, or Asteroids. Really enjoyed his class and recommend him for future classes.
Very helpful when I have questions. Projects very involved in the lessons and were games. He had food for final and guest speaker to show the how Computer Science is used in the real world. Good teacher.
He's a great instructor and is very helpful. Am a grad student at the 4 year University and know how hard it really is out there. Compared to University instructors who let their aids take care of the teaching and students, he is very patient and cares about his students. I recommend him for all your computer science courses.
Cool dude. Was able to make a totaly intense Battleship program in C++. Really learned a lot this semester. If you want to learn how to make cool games while you learn, take him.
Very helpful and is there for you during lab or office hours, while others are not. Very dedicated. Good instructor
Wow! Cool dude, brought donuts and pizza. Fun project -- poker! LOTS AND LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT
A helpful and approachable instructor who is unfortunately in declining health. Tries to make his class enjoyable to students, often with foods and friendly conversations. I did not get much out of his lectures, but he shows genuine interest in helping his students succeed. The grading scale is laxed and the class was mostly enjoyable.
Its been said before hes the only one who helps you. Other profs sit and listen to their ipods and blow you off. He helps all students amnd its quite visibie that he is suffering, but he still helps you, no questions asked.
Mr. Wilkinson kicks a$$. He's a super nice guy and genuinely wants to help the students. He'll do whatever he can to give you the highest grade, just show him you're trying and do the HW.
Really loves Computer Science and wants the students to find out why.
In class he teaches Computer Science, not programming. Talk to him out of class and he will help you learn what it means to be a Computer Scientist. He loves the field and will help you understand the intellectual challenge it offers.
Excellent subject knowlege, brings food for the class. Slight stutter, yet still one of the best communicators on Computer Science I have ever had.
If you want it easy, take CIS and go nowhere. If you want to get a job during an interview, just take one of Dr Wilkinson's final projects to your interview. I was hired during the middle of the interview!!!!!
nice professor!!! Easy to get good grade for hw & tests. but his final was really hard to do. good luck
He doesn't teach by the traditional method. He teaches by what he knows, which is beyond what the textbook provides. All you need to do is to read/understand the material beforehand, so when you go to class you will have a good idea on what he's talking about. Test/Finals are fun, but can be really challenging. Pizza if the class gets good grades!
Prof. Wilkinson is easily one of the best teachers i've ever had. This class was extremely hard, Even so, by the time you are finsihed with the course you WILL know the material. He not only teaches the US standard for programming, but also the standards used in other places around the world, and how to program for multiple operating systems.
his lectures are pretty boring...it seemed like a hard class at first! but he give so much extra credit its easy to get an A like i did even with NO homework! the final is important! but you need to learn to code[mostly copying his codes!! ;)] to have a chance at that!
He covers the material WAY to quickly; hard to keep up. He's willing to help you. Gives A LOT of extra. Tests are open notes, not very difficult.
Best C++ professor I've had. Teaches well and explains anything and everything as long as you ask. Make sure to ask lots of questions!
Great professor. Extremely knowledgeable in the entire tech world. Only class i ever had where lecture helped me understand the book instead of the other way around. Extra credit is a life saver!
Instructor is very helpful but you have to ask him. Projects, allows group work, but does give more material that what is in the book.
Pretty much he teaches the class as if everyone has had done programming before. First few days, he goes over the basics and all of sudden we start doing some fancy stuff that is too hard for beginners. But the tests are take home & allows group. Gives extensions on tests if they were too hard or majority have not finished. Easy to get A if u work.
Instructor uses a projector instead of the white board -- I've asked him for the paper he writes on and he gives it to me after class. I think the individual below was surfing instead of listening... Course is fair, lots of work though. Great guy.
Al I can say is THANK YOU professor for everything that you did
great lecture if you interact with him; extremely friendly; extremely wise; very interesting program assignments; very updated information on programing; lots of out-of-book information. work with groups; lots of extra credit; lots of work for class; easy A overall.
Ill admit, this class was a free A BUT it was very interesting. There is no hw and you do not need a book but you have to write a 5 page essay(title page and work cited included) about something you learned in the class. We watched and talked about a lot of different things that involved CS and it was fun and interesting. :)
He may seem intimidating at first but he's definitely a funny guy. He has a lot of things to share that's semi-relevant to the class. The class overall is basic and simple but it only gets complicated if you don't study. I'd most definitely recommend his class (except to the art major people, he has a minor dislike to them).
Listen to what he says. I transferred after taking this course. The UC class I am in now has 300 students! Although he is hard, but he is fair. He really wants his students to succeed.
He's good at explaining the subject, but when it comes to applying what he lectures about he falls flat. His assignments are on the realm of "What I wrote does't work, fix it." For me, this doesn't help me learn to apply what I've learned, when compared to other profs. who actually make you write code from scratch Wilkinson falls short.
Be prepared to travel through hell and back. If you demonstrate hard work, he'll grade quite fairly. If you don't work, he'll know, and not grade you well. READ the book BEFORE the class starts, or at least each chapter before hand. KNOW THE BINARY TREES. BTW, there's no away to cheat. He's wayyyy up there in the pecking order of the science of CS.
Wilkinson is inspirational, his lecture and test is beyond the Wikipedia or Google can help. Right! He is the one that guide u and make u debug his 'mistake'. But, this is not CS2, so, u need to see how the Pro do it! 3 Know how to use QT debugger before u take his class(utube), and that will be one of the best skill that u learn in any prog lang.
More than anything else, he teaches you how to "THINK" for yourself. If you are able to understand that no one can teach you better than yourself, then you will be successful regardless of what you do, all his testsassignments are guided toward that goal. DO READ from book and outside sources!! PICK YOUR PARTNERS WELL for team projects!
Great teacher! Knowledgeable about everything. Always willing to help and give feedback. Inspirational talks about Star Trek! But just watch out who you pair up with...
Looks scary but is nice. Gives almost everybody an A; full marks on labs without checking them, multiple attempts/answered revealed for online quizzes, offers extra credit like candy on H'ween. He is unhealthy so be sure to take CS8 before something bad happens to him. Good subject knowledge, poor lectures. Ask questions! Best PCC CS prof overall.
My favorite professor of all time. After graduating from UCI in 2015 and working at Aerospace Corp 2016, I am now writing a review on my most influential teacher. His teaching is hard and effective. Although I only received a B+, CS courses after taking his were a cake walk. Learning goes farther than getting the grade. Just like in my case.
He's very knowledgeable, but I think he only makes sense to those who had him since CS 2/CS 3A. It was a hard transition getting used to his style of teaching, but after I figured out what he was trying to say, he was very insightful. Not the best lecturer in my opinion, but he certainly tries very hard to get the lesson across.
He's a great professor and really knowledgeable in his subjects. He does tend to go off on tangents at times during lectures but you can learn a lot from him in class if you participate and pay attention, and he's a pretty fun guy as well.
Wilkinson's lectures are usually just you observing his programming. Lab days are the best days to ask him questions. ALWAYS ASK QUESTIONS. Lab due dates are inconsistent, but he is very lenient on grading. There are 2 Tests and 1 Final. These are solo/group projects. The Final this past semester was very rushed making it extremely stressful.
Honestly such a nice human being. He has been through a lot in his life and is so wise and knowledgeable about everything. His class is fantastic and I would highly recommend him.
I'm a CS major, if you are consider CS major, then I would highly recommand you at least try his class. He make you really challenge yourself to think outside of the box, and develop skills such as debugging which is important for this career in real world. He is very polite and funny person, and you could always ask him questions. HE RESPECT YOU!
This professor teaches you to think. Has tons of knowledge and work experience from the real world to share. You'll learn things that you wouldn't learn from your normal CS class and techniques that will make you go "WOW you could do that?" even if you think you have a lot of practice under your belt. Definitely worth taking before you transfer.
Was really a hard class. Really had to work for the A, especially since I didn't do any of the extra credit. He gives a lot of extra credit too. Did not do one of the tests, but he dropped the lowest one.
Love Dr. Wilkinson! Best CS professor I have taken and I've taken all different CS classes. He really knows his stuff and willing to teach it to you.
Avoid
Dr. Wilkinson is the kind of teacher who knows his stuff like nobody else and is shows up to class every day explicitly for his students. He's there to help you succeed and he will remind you of it as much as is necessary. Ask questions, he will help however he is able. Humorous, straight-shooter, filled to the brim with knowledge.
Extremely knowledgeable. His assignments will make you a better computer scientist for sure and he's super friendly so asking for help is not an issue at all. Getting an A isn't hard, just put in the work. You can learn a lot from this man, so take advantage of this class!
Codes during the class and dry explains what he's doing. Definitely read the book. Not very interactive when explaining concepts but is willing to answer questions. Makes you work for it by making you figuring out what his code means. This style wasn't for me but easy A. I felt that I didn't deeply learn concepts. Currently playing catch up in CS8.
In the first week of class he seems intimidating, just to weed out the serious and non-serious students. After that, he is a bit relaxed and is extremely helpful and kind. He is actually very caring and gives a good amount of extra credit. He really teaches you how to be a Computer Scientist and his style of code is extremely efficient and clean.
Very knowledgeable, he won't give you a straight answer but would point you to the right direction. Homework is not hard, please do the extra credit because it challenges you to be better at the subject.
Professor Wilkinson is the best at PCC. A real gem because he has been in the industry for decades and has time to teach at the community college level. He teaches you real Computer Science, he does not baby you but offers plenty of opportunities to succeed. I was inspired by this man and he always pushed us to be our best. Definitely a great prof!
