Intro to Bio I was hard as hell
very hard, doesnt help you, sucks at teaching. just puts a bunch of overheads up, doesnt teach anything. dont take the class!!! (3/4 out of the class failed!)
Very hard, horrible tests. Expects entirely too much, very crass and offensive. STAY AWAY at all costs, i dropped the class, 3/4 of it also dropped or failed as well, I re-took it with Jewitt-Smith, and got an A.
Geared the gen ed class towards majors, expected you to spend hours studying for his tests. Had class twice a week, had a quiz every thursday. Has office hours, but if you go you walk out even more confused about what you went in to question him about.
Horrible...stay away. I dont know why he is teaching. His tests are ridicuoulus and he spends most of his time talking down to you.
Very condescending attitude, uses only biological terminology and expects students to understand physics, chemistry and biology before taking the course. Supposed to be freshman level but more geared in the 300 level. Doesn't respond to email or phone.
He has tiny man's complex
I only had Wilson for lab - it was 25% of my total Anatomy Lecture grade and I had to study more for this class than any other 3 or 4 credit class I had. All of the other professors gave multiple choice tests while Wilson gave only practicals.
Lecture hall was packed, after first test, more than 1/2 dropped it. The material and teaching isn't that bad, read the book to clear it up. His tests are impossible. You study, and you still fail or do poorly.
HES A HORRIBLE PROFESSOR. WE DONT HAVE IT EASY AT ALL AND HE MAKES SURE OF IT. TRY NOT TO TAKE HIM...ITS ADDED FRUSTRATION THAT YOU DONT NEED
Supposed to be a 100 level course and the guy thinks he is teaching a 300 level course. I would never recomend him to anyone, his class was impossible, more than half the class dropped it within two weeks.
This teacher is absolutely horrible. Not helpful, at all. Never explains what we're doing, tests and quizzes are impossible. He should be fired. Don't EVER take a class with this jerk.
This guy seems tremendously hard at first but if you keep up with the material and study a lot from the book and on your own you will be fine. He is a hard on his students but you get a lot out of his class.
Lectures from PowerPoint and puts the outlines online for you to print. I wish I didn't buy the book - If you pay attention in class and memorize the outlines, you can do well without reading. I got an A. Exams are straight from the weekly quizzes.
sucked
worst teacher ever seriously do not take this man...he doesnt give a**** about anyone..all he cares about is how much he knows and how no one is as smart as him
Prof. Wilson is a good teacher who runs an easy lecture, and lab. However, his lab tests are hard. He has always been open to talk to in and out of class.
u ppl not need to learn to study and pay attention and go to class and stop ****ing...yes u have to work hard like college should be..if u pay attention the tests and quizzes are easy and come STRAIGHT from the notes..hes a funny guy..knos his stuff
WORST prof I had him for Intro lab Every week he would talk to this kid about movies and South Park. He even wears South Park T-shirts.. how is that allowed? He would fail peoples lab reports & not explain Y
if you ever liked bio this man will make you hate it!!!!!
seemed more like a poly sci class and he acted like it was only for majors. gives weekly quizzes and you fail every single one unless you know the notes/book inside and out. questions on test are taken from quizzes. i dropped the class. terrible.
Not an easy class, but willing to answer ?'s till U understand, even if it take 3 dfft explanations! Very energetic. Study notes/examples, ask ?'s, and U will do well.
His class was unreasonably prepared. He told us not to come to class and to get everything offline. The quizzes were difficult. The least I can say is that he was nice when I dropped the class and he's pretty cute.
Hard class, but I learned a lot. He's a good teacher, but he expects a lot. The quizzes are difficult, so be prepared to study. But, he does give you all the notes to print out which makes things easier. Read the notes, ask questions, and you'll do fine.
this man should not be teaching. all he cares about is hearing his own voice. he rambles on and on and moves way to fast. he reminds me of the guy from blues clues. his tests are ridiculously hard as hell. he should really think about finding a new teaching pattern. note to everyone- NEVER TAKE HIM!
Unbelievably hard, makes smart students feel dumb. He gets on my nerves! Doesn't care about his students, just his pay check! Don't get me wrong he is a smart guy, he just doesn't know how to teach his students.
i hate this guy he sucks at teaching and when it comes to grading homeworks and outlines he sucks. Would recommend taking someone else if u can and if u dont there is something wrong with u.
HORRIBLE CLASS! he doesnt know how to teach, his test are increadibly hard and never cover the information that he teaches in class. when it comes to doing the h/w dont attempt because no matter how smart u are u will fail. it doesnt matter how much u study or how smart u are, ur still going to fail.
he is a terrible teacher and person. all he talked about was the mating of baboon in ethopa. My boyfrinend and i took the class together and i got a B and he got a D..my boyfriend is PRE_MED..he loses test...pull his grades from his butt..now he is on academic propation for failing to many students
I thought it would be very interesting, he made it a complete bore. He gives notes that don't really correspond with the tests. All he does is read what is on his power point. Tries to cover too much, suceeds in teaching nothing. Complete bore, waste of money, bail out if you have him!
Extremly Hard! Get Out Now. Might seem like a nice guy but tests are very hard and have questions on it that deal with nothing he had teached during the weeks. You have to outline every chapter and have a quiz every week. Take my advice, is you want a "c" or better find a new teacher.
He has little man syndrome. He is angry that he is small so he tries to talk over everyone's heads to prove how smart he is. He takes alot of the questions for quizes and exams from the chapter reviews. Read them and study them well and you will pass. Outlines and homework are easy.
Gives tons of busy work, gives no breaks
STAY....AWAY.... hes out to ruin your life and dreams becasue he is impossible, if you like to fail then he's definetly your guy, if not... then avoid him at all costs.
Horrible teacher, narrow minded, very unclear. Fails to try to make any connection with the students at all, all he cares about is his paycheck. I went in this class with an awesome GPA and fought insanely hard for a C. Avoid Paul Wilson like the plauge!
Horrible teacher, needs to learn that a 104 class ISN'T a graduate level class and teach it that way...
HORRIBLE TEACHER!!! He doesnt make any effort to help u when u need it. My friends and I asked for his help numerous times and all he does is expects us to know the damn answer and talks down to us. His quizzes are ridiculous! Haven't had any of his tests yet but I can see them now! My friends and I advise u NOT to take his class! If we knew about him the first week of school we would SO have dropped his class, now it's too late! Oh and the prelabs and stuff are ridiculous!
Hardest Class...all i gota say
not clear at all as to what he wants on labs, very confusing class with little to no assistance. this intro class is taught as if the student already knows the subject matter..find a different prof.
TERRIBLE he didn't follow the book at all, and I have no idea where he got half the questions on our quizzes and tests from. He just doesn't know how to teach material.
He runs through the material too quickly. In my A&P Lab I, 85% of the students failed the first test and the class after that, he ran through some bones for 30 minutes and let the class go. He runs through slides very quickly, just reading names and pointing to bones. I'm actually learning more teaching myself Anatomy.
HORRIBLE!!!
i think i am a better teacher than him. I spent the semester teaching myself the material b/c all he did was read off the names of body parts and let the class go after 20 minutes. Avoid him if you can.
do NOT take ecology with this professor unless you are looking to fail a class and be bored out of your mind!!
He tries to teach well but he often speaks over you head and goes through things fast. tests are all short answers.
Is literally sick, but no excuse for his grading/attitude with students. Only had him for lab (planned around his classes)but nearly impossible. See him frequently, it might help, but he doesn't clarify anything.
His tests are impossibleeeee.
Nice guy, you just have to teach yourself alot of the work and STUDY ALOT
he sucks. his grading is horrible. he doesn't teach us wat he puts on the test.i study three hour a night and I still do bad. He makes me not want to be in this major. Also, he tries to confuse me even more when I ask him questions.
Test are impossible and hard, I have no clue where he gets his questions from bc there not from the notes, grades hard , most people have a D or are failing
Great at Lecturing, and has a broad understanding of biology in its bigger picture. Test are Hard!
Knows his stuff... but his lectures are completely irrelevent to his tests... exams are extremely hard, despite studying the outlines and in-class lecture notes... he's willing to help you understand something, if you can ever get in contact with him, or catch him in his office (which he's never there...)
He is a horrible professor! He made me feel like i didn't study enough and he doesn't teach like he should. He teaches like a high school teacher, but gives you confusing terms and "college" tests. He is horrible and avoid him at ALL COSTS!he ruined my gpa, don't let him ruin yours!
Not as bad as people say he is. Explains things in detail. Good personality. Funny. Shows real interest in what he does. Makes it easy to understand the topics. I'm personally enjoying the class.
Joke... I've never taken a harder GEN ED. Tests are impossible, avg. tests scores are LOW.. I'm talkin 40's 50's people..avoid.
way to hard
STAY AWAYYYYY
This guy is disconnected, does not care and strictly lectures.....terrible format...awful professor
I'm not saying that the guy knows nothing about genetics...just doesn't know how to teach it. Avoid taking him for any class if you don't have to...
No doubt this class is extremely tough. Although he is really good at clarifying things in class, you really need to do work on your own to be able to get a decent grade in his class. Our first exam he curved 20 points and the class average was STILL a failing grade. Try to avoid
Had him as a lab teacher, he graded extremly hard!!!! No matter how perfect my lab papers were, he ALWAYS found mistakes! also, he was VERY rude to students and would not let people in late to his class (even five minutes) I definately believe his grading is NOT fair!
I actually enjoy his class. His lectures are a little boring, but he actually cares about the material. His tests aren't too hard either.
He has a bad reputation, but don't believe it. He's a tough teacher, but fair. What's on the test is what he went over in class and what he assigned for homework. If you have questions, he is eager to help in office hours or after class. His bad reputation comes from lazy students who didn't study or do homework.
I dropped his class. Only 4 exams, 3 count on your grade. I didn't find his class interesting whatsoever.
he's smart and knows his stuff but doesn't know how to pass it along to others. aka can't teach. he gives you long hard exams and expects you to finish it within the class time frame. take someone else and save yourself the stress
Standards: High for ESU. Pace: Fast. Exam format: Essay, Short answer. Quizzes: Weekly, short answer. Lab: 1 major report. Suggestion: Raise your hand when you think it's a stupid question, this will trigger pain receptors in the brain and enhances retention of the memory. Use it to your advantage.
Stay away from this "teacher," unless you enjoy the material, can teach yourself the material, read the professors mind. his tests are composed of "how would you think I feel about this"
By far, one of the worst professors I've ever had! He knows the subject, I'll give him that but he is sooo boring! you take 4 exams the three highest grades are the ones that only count. he's not clear in his lectures and is very monotone. not entertaining. BORING! do not take it unless you HAVE to!
I had Dr. Wilson for A&P II Lab. I really do not think he is as bad as everyone makes him out to be. He is more than willing to help you if you have questions and he is generally a nice guy. His lab praticals seem easy when you're taking them but somehow everyone seems to do poorly. He does curve them around 10-15 points though!
Dr. Wilson is quite possibly one of my favorite professors. Clear lectures and knowledgeable. Exams straightforward with material taught. Depending on your personality he can come off as boring, but if you have a dry sense of humor he is hilarious. I recommend.
Honestly thought he was a good guy at the beginning of the semester, but he proved me wrong. Side tracks so much and starts talking about things not relevant to the subject at hand... He didn't even let me finish an exam. Asked for 10-15 minutes after class to finish, he said no, even though that's the last class of the day. Avoid him at all costs
I had him for genetics, and he really knew what he was talking about. He supposedly goes faster than other genetics professors. You will have to read the book if you don't understand something, but the book will really help. Take the practice tests, understand them, and you'll be fine. It's really not hard
Professor Aldras, was one of my favorite professor's. I had him for Immunology, he had great lectures. He is a very friendly guy, and I was often in his office asking questions. He loves to know you more then just a face in his class, so communicate with him, ask questions and show some interest. He gives pop quizzes but only as extra credit!
He is a very good teacher and you can tell he is smart. He really knows what he's talking about. He also tries to help you with anything and encourages questions.
Dr. Wilson in general is a great lecturer. He is extremely passionate about the subject matter and it shines through as he speaks. However, he does have his drawbacks. It is far too difficult to take notes in his class. I found myself giving up half way through the semester. He does provide study guides which are helpful for his tough exams.
Took him for genetics. Standard grader. I didn't have a problem with it being difficult but I really love genetics. He is a cool guy outside of class and easy to talk to. Lots of lecturing and reading but as long as you do that you should pass the class without a problem
Avoid taking stream eco if you can. He is purposely vague with instructions on lab technology and poster presentations. I think he's trying to evoke problem solving skills but it was actually just really frustrating ... Since I'm paying to take a CLASS to TEACH me how to do these things.
Hated his lectures. Was passionate about his research in Africa more than teaching the subject. Hard to keep up and take notes and I was getting paid to take notes for that class as well. Tests are super difficult and barely relate to the practice tests. Curves but doesn't really help. Dropped a test too I think and still didn't help.
I was enrolled in professors bio seminar class it was interesting reading up on scholarly articles and writing a reporting each week along with small class dialogue discussion. Though I didnt get the grade I thought I deserved it seems fair being it is a tough class. Your grades on your papers, and a presentation as well as participation I think
I had him my freshman year for Bio lab and he was awful and still is in Genetics! He gives no homework or quizzes so your grade is purely based on the 4 exams he gives. He knows the material but lacks the ability to share the information effectively. Tests are 50 questions and are 50 min and unrelated to practices and lectures. Take someone else.
After my 2d exam our class was horrified and some people started dropping the class. I was having a C for my midterm and wanted to drop the class. Then I changed my methods of studying, went over my exam mistakes and got an A-! So: to pass you need to study!! This is not intro bio anymore. There are no make up quizzes but prof curves the exam!
Had him for organic evolution, did not learn a thing from his class. Grades on 4 exams only, and 5 questions you need to answer worth 20 points each. He does curve the exam but not enough to pass. Awful professor, take anyone else
Lecture heavy, but his lectures are terrible and unstructured. If you question his teaching abilities, he'll pull up Bloom's Taxonomy to show that you should be doing everything yourself and he has no responsibilities to teach. Stop hiring researchers as professors, hire TEACHERS. He should be doing nothing but overseeing a lab.
Dr. Wilson is a good guy, and a good professor, but he expects too much from students who just want to get a degree. His classes are a good difficulty for students who want to challenge themselves, but just taking his classes because you like the subject isn't recommended. But take his classes if you have high standards for yourself.
Dr. Wilson is polite & very knowledgeable on the subjects he teaches. Our grade was based off 4 exams. Not too bad if you put in the time and work. However Dr. Wilson is not very good with academic advising, I feel he gets bothered when I would reach out with questions & clarification in the past.
Finally took this class a second time and passed with a B, Failed the first time. Heavy on exams, doesn't answer questions with straight forward answers, gets side-tracked easily, gives no extra credit, awful grader, will tell you one answer one day and tell you a different one the next day for the same question and will contradict himself.
Poorly structured lectures that do not clearly explain much,"matching" powerpoint presentations do not contain any information, not helpful if you miss/are late. Rambles about other topics/complains about his children. Lab is chaotic, expects you to work independently but does not provide guidance. Missing lab materials delay lab procedures
