I won't agree.He was VERy helpfull for me.Before his class, I hated math,now,I'm cool with it.His style is little bit different,but if u pay attention,you'll get it.
Homework and tests were difficult but the class was fun and challenging. I learned a lot.

yeah. don't take him unless you are very smart. if you do all the work and accidently write down wrong ans he won't give you any partial credit. try to take someone else. If he ask him any question there is not even .01% chance to get ans from him.
He was a very smart teacher. I learned a lot of think from every chapter during the semester. And that perfect knowlwdge was very helpful for me in Mat 142. I enjoyed the class, I submit all of homework, and I got an A (average 94). I will take him again in other math class. I appriciate to him. Thank you sir for your perfect teaching.
Didn't think he was that bad.Had him in the summer, so it went fast, gave reviews, hmks,quizzes, and test. Had a take home test, and the Final exam was multiple choice, still had to crunch #s. Here's advice, in the book(new) there is a formula chart, (with z'scores), look through it; won't need to memorize the formulas for tests!!!
His class is not easy, you have to work really hard but he's not a horrible teacher he is willing to help his students. As long as you take notes, pay attention, do your homework, and ask about what dosn't make sense you should do fine.
avoid taking this professor at all costs. he goes way too fast and says nothing of consequence. the first test is really easy and its all downhill from there. his class requires way too much work just to get by with a not so great grade
He really cares about helping you and explains the concepts very well. He answers all questions and will help you after class or by email. If you do not understand something; he will explain it again. His testing is straight forward and he gives you a formula sheet. Come to class, work hard, and you will succeed. He is a great teacher to take.
Mr. Paul Winterbottom is a great teacher and instructor. He will answer all questions and make himself available to the students after class, during various office hours, or even if you email him on the weekend. If you do not understand a concept; he will stop and help you understand it. He wants you to succeed.
Do not take him! Can?t read what he writes on the board. Other teachers will show you shortcuts on the calculator and with Mr. Winterbottom will not. I found him to be nice and caring. However he does move fast and does not go over the material. he assumes you already knows how to do it from your previous class. Was very frustrating. i went to ever class completed homework and still ended up failing. I went to him many times and all he would say was go to learning lab. I did this as well.
He is hard. A teacher that is right to the point and not good at explaining thihngs. He once told a person in my class to shut up and have said other remarks along those lines. I would never take him again.
Difficult, but worth taking
Mr. Winterbottom was a good teacher. His grading policy is fair. He has twelve quizzes, and counts the top ten. The tests are challenging, but if you come to class and do the assigned problems you will be fine. If you have any questions on the assigned problems, he will go over it in class. His final was the hardest because it was cumulative.
Ok, for everyone who says he is impossible that is not entirely true. He could be tough if you dont pay attention and the class will be impossible if you dont go b/c he makes things easier than the book does. He goes over everything for the homeworks, quizzes, and tests. I got an A, if you show up, pay attention, and participate ull be golden
A bit of a challenge, but not impossible. The downfall for a lot of students is that the tests are based on current and older material... if you forget something that seems "less important" you'll fail because of it. Other than that, hes typically pretty clear, direct, and he can explain the material pretty well.
Very difficult class. You cannot slack off in this course - once you are behind, it's almost impossible to catch up. Prof. lacks social skills, but will help you if you ask. All work is by hand, besides basic math computations, so no calculator help. I would suggest trying this course with another prof.
This was a difficult class but it is easy to pass if you apply everything you learn. Teaching is an Art and although I can agree with some of the comments, the Professor is extremely helpful when you ask for help. Understanding comes with practical application not just presentation.
He is so interested in math, so you get the whole explanation, which is so helpful for people interested in a math major. probs worse teacher i have had. explains things once and expects you to understand without a problem. test are hard and the quizzes are never on what you study. hard grader and when you ask for individual help, he is not helpful at all. Dropped his course and would never take him agian.
DO NOT take him as a summer class. if you are willing to work your butt off, attend every class, and study constantly, then you may do ok. if you're not good at math AVOID him at all costs. Moves extremely fast, and nearly yelled at me once for asking a question because he "explained it 100 times". It is a hard class, take someone else if you can!
Horrible teacher. He made snide remarks at me for asking a questions, saying that I should understand it because he explained it 3 times. Rather than teaching it first he jumps right into the examples which are done to fast to fully understand. His test are way harder than the examples he shows in class. Do not take this class with this professor!

He was an alright teacher, he worked out a lot of examples and his tests are basically from homework problems. Of course as the semester goes on the material gets harder. Go to CLA recitation classes if you can, they help a lot.
Extremely hard and does not teach the class. He spends more time teaching himself and doing the problems on his own. He will stop to help you but does not explain his work at all.
DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER for any class at all costs. I had to withdrawal because i would not have passed. I took the same class with a different teacher the next semester and got an A-. He explains nothing and the entire class he does examples on the board. Impossible to follow and has no people skills. Do not take this teacher for any class!!
DO NOT take his class, he doesn't teach you anything! I had to withdraw, he would not explain the problems we had for homework. he would just do the exercises from the book on the board (without going over ANY of the material)! he expects you to know what he's "teaching". he makes stupid jokes. BORING- sat in front and still fell asleep!AVOID HIM!!
he moves quickly but that is the nature of an accerated summer session course. I think he does as a best of a job to squeeze everything in while still being fair and helpful. If you are not good at math and can't pay attention for more than an hour take this course during a normal semester. He is a good teacher though. :)
This professor really cares about those who want to learn and will take the time to help anyone who wants to learn more than what he goes over in class. Study and practice what he teaches and you will pass this class. Don't expect to understand him all the time just take what he knows and apply it and use him for more difficult problem.
Tons of handouts and will flood you with paper, but most of it's useful / Extremely knowledgeable about the material but can be hard to follow at times; has his own ways of saying/explaining things that take some getting used to / The class is easy for the first half but gets a lot more difficult/confusing later on, so attendance is paramount
Paul Winterbottom is the man! Took pre-calc with him, and he is a very great teacher. does a lot of examples and is helpful outside of the classroom. he may have some bad reviews because, lets face it, a majority of students at mc3 are simply lazy and not that intelligent. Just because its community college, its still College! hats off to Paul!!
I am a Math major...I felt like I couldn't do math anymore.
Horrible. No social skills. Gives rude sarcastic answers to questions without even answering them. Quizzes are never on what you study. Tests are a lot harder than the examples done in class. Doesn't EXPLAIN how to do any problem.
Paul is a great teacher to take. He is very straight forward. He gives a lot of homework examples, which means u get more practice. His exams can be difficult, but if u work hard enuf, u will be fine.
I took him for Intro to Statistics and really did not like the class. Mr. Winterbottom is very smart and knows what he is talking about but he doesn't know how to teach. He goes super fast and doesn't explain what he's doing. Thankfully the information wasn't hard and my class had an SI (Supplementary Instruction) session. I did okay in the end.
He is a nice guy in person, and will help, but it is tough to get the info out of him. He gets lost in his example problems often. The lectures feel strange and detached at first, but become familiar over time. He is quite good with his handouts. Shows up to class at least ten minutes late several times per semester. A bit flighty.
Lectures are all over the place. He never has the handouts he needs; does not take kindly to questions being asked in class (I cannot speak for office hours). Class is still relatively easy if you're decent at Algebra. Most of his (graded) homework problems and test questions are exactly the same as handouts, often with the same numbers.
He really knew the material, but when he would describe it he figured you should already know the concept. His lecture is rushing through problems in the back of each chapter instead of learning the concept.
Didn't always know what he was talking about. He would go really fast. Only get points on tests if you get the problem 100% correct. Doesn't really care if you miss classes, but you probably won't pass.
I never did so much homework in my life until I took his class. Winterbottom's lectures were not so bad, he always went over many problems from the book . However, he never could explain anything clearly so I never knew completely what he was talking about. Still, I would recommend him because he gives lots of extra credit on his tests.
He pretty much teaches himself. His back is to the class the whole time and all he does is write problems on the board and solves them himself. The class revolves around memorizing those problems since he takes some of those for the exams. If your the kind of person who likes that go for it but if you need to learn concepts AVOID!!!
if you failed stat before, i would highly recommend taking winterbottom. he explains stat in a very clear matter, giving you formulas rather than calculator commands. i really enjoyed his class because i understood everything way better the second time around. YOU MUST DO EXTRA HOMEWORK TO PRACTICE. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.
This is probably the worst professor I have ever had. This professor does not explain subjects thoroughly, if you ask him a question he catches an attitude. In my case he insulted me in front of the class when i had a question about a problem. He said "If you don't understand this go back to Algebra" but you have to pass that to get in the class.
Most horrible teacher I have ever encountered. He never wants to explain anything and just gives all answers for in class work. No sense of patience and gets pissed because students ask questions. Save yourself don't take this guy.
Worst professor I've ever had. He copies off a piece of paper and then we copy for two hours straight. He gets stuff wrong pretty often (he's not even thinking about the problem) and takes about five minutes for him to understand what it is you're asking for him to clarify. Tests and quizzes are the most difficult material and he doesn't review.

When you ask him a question, he usually is angry that you don't understand and then doesn't elaborate. This is the worst grade I have ever received. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
I took this professor for Calculus 2. It seems to me that he is always unprepared for class. He doesn't really have lectures. He just copies problems that he has written on his paper. Doesn't show step by step, messes up a lot, and when you as him a question he doesn't really answer it. If anything he just makes it more confusing. Don't take him.
I would not recommend anyone to take him as a professor. He is not clear about what he is teaching. He goes off from a paper that who knows how old the materials are. Has one of the worst lectures I have ever sat in, and he is all over the place with everything including himself. STAY AWAY unless you are crazy smart.
If you take him, expect to have to take the class again. He's one of those professors who should have retired before he even started. Class normally consisted of him walking in 10 minutes late and starting the class with "ok today we're going to do problems a to z" and spending half the class on a single problem because he can't solve it.
Imagine you're at a concert. Now imagine that you and everyone at that concert is def. That's what Winterbottom's class felt like. He walks in. Writes the problems on the board. calls it a day. His class is the only class i had to retake. Got an A in the class later Unless you can telepathically communicate with him, try taking someone else.
Really nice guy. If you aren't good at math I would not recommend taking him because he breezes through the problems. I liked him because doing the problems is how I learn the material when it comes to math. Knows the material well but isn't the best at communicating it to students.

Worst teacher I've ever had and has got to be the worst professor at the whole college. I had all A's besides his class, which I received an F. He doesn't care about the students and can't teach at all. I'm surprised his rating is even 2.5, should be a lot lower in all honesty.
Worst professor I've ever had. Just talks at you, does not clearly explain how to do problems, and does not clearly answer your questions. Messes up problems on the board constantly. The problems on his tests will not look like any of the ones from class or in the text. Dropped the class.
Horrible professor. Took an online math class with him. He doesn't teach you the problems, he will just copy them down out of the book, even then he messes them up. Messes up a lot of simple math. You have to mail him all of your work and wait for it to be mailed back. Very unprepared and should not be teaching an online class. Terrible.
If math is your strong-suit, go for it. But for someone like me, who doesn't understand mathematical concepts as quickly, you may want to look for a different professor. He tends to be disorganized, and breeze through questions with little to no explanations. He's always asking if there's any questions, though, so he cares about your success.

Some of the students really liked to bash him, hence why I remained distant from my fellow classmates. He DOES get lost in his lectures/example-problems every now and again, but it IS tolerable. If you are someone who wants a teacher that feels like a friend, this is not your guy. ORGANIZE YOUR HANDOUTS BY CHAPTER! ATTEND CLASS! DO HOMEWORK!

Had to withdraw from his class. Took another professor (Owens) the next semester and got an A. Doesn't explain what chapters are about, he just starts doing a bunch of problems on the board (terrible hand writing and insists on using the smartboard). The class started off with 15 kids and when I withdrew there were 5 left.
Mr. Winterbottom is a tough grader, he doesn't give credit unless the entire problem is correct although he let's you use any method. Doesn't explain the problems thoroughly, if at all. Would never recommend this to a student that wants to succeed.
Took him for 6 week summer course. Material was challenging. There are participation points so definitely show up for class. Practice handout problems since they will be on tests. Ask questions if don't understand since he goes over things thoroughly.

I worked with Humana Medicare beneficiaries prior to taking class with this man, and during that time, I spoke with many people over the phone, most age 65-80. Let me tell you, I know when a person his age is a decent communicator or not, and Mr. Winterbottom IS NOT. He should just retire already. A poor communicator like him is a poor teacher.
This professor is going to depend on what kind of student you are. I am a student where math comes natural to me and basically i can just watch him do it on the board and learn from that. Homework is not mandatory, and i didnt do any homework and passed. If you dont learn like that and dont have alot of time to do homework and study you will fail.
No. I am a straight A student I could only get a B+ in his class. He doesn't understand how to teach students! If asked to elaborate on how to solve a problem he will repeat the same thing over and over again. He cannot clarify anything. All he does it write problems on the board and never explains what or why he is doing anything. Do not take him!
Professor Winterbottom is an excellent professor. He is very clear when he teaches in class and shows how to do every kind of problem. The tests and quizzes are similar to the homework. Many students dropped the class due to laziness and lack of intelligence, however, any dedicated student who works hard will do very well in his classes.
Sloppy handwriting, doesn't explain how to solve the problems, tough grader, does not communicate properly and is hard to follow what he's doing on the board. If you're a student that has trouble with math like I do, then I would not recommend taking any math classes with this professor.
Mr. Winterbottom is a poor professor. My advice to you is do every homework assignment and redo ever homework assignment prior to test and go to tutoring center for organization, easier and much clearer ways of completing problems. Runs out of time and crams quizzes and tests which results in bad grades. Do not take this professor.
This Professor is not a bad teacher, but he does not explain clearly what he's doing, and when you ask him to, he simply repeats himself or gives an even more complicated explanation. If you are mathematically inclined and enjoy math he is an amazing teacher with great stories; if you're like me and struggle with it, he is a talking text book.
One of the best at Montco. I have taken three of his classes, and I enjoyed all of them. Classes involve doing lots of practice problems, and tests and quizzes are similar to practice problems. Unmotivated, lacking math skills, and generally unsmart students will have difficulty succeeding, but good students who are dedicated will have no problems.
Absolutely horrible. Just because you can do math does not mean you can or should teach it. I am an amazing student and his class is going to drop my gpa so hard. I am good at math. The way he teaches it is him doing the problems himself while he stands in front of his work and doesnt explain it at all. Doesnt even read the problems.
First of all, only class for the semester to ruin my GPA! And I blame it on the professor. Doesnt explain well at all, just kind of talks and talks and talks while solving the problems all by himself! Just gives handouts left and right. The final was so random, couldnt even study for it because he didnt specify what was on it! Unsatisfied!!
Currently taking this class, Im a deans list student. DO NOT take his class. He messes up while explaining and gets mad when you correct him and ask him questions. Quizzes every week and not really a great review before test or quizzes. Sets you up for failure, not to succeed. You will literally have to teach yourself the material.
I took this class over the summer and I found it to be easy but I'm really good at math. He takes FOREVER to grade anything and hardly responds to emails. 7 assignments worth 25%, two tests worth 50% and a final worth 25%.
Do you want to watch someone do the problems by themselves in front of a class? If so, this is the place to be. All seriousness he lacks any sort of teaching or explanation skills. Highly recommend not taking a class with him. Material is in all honesty not the toughest in the world just very difficult to learn when you rely on yourself.
Worst professor I've ever had. If there was ever a passion in him for educating future generations it is long, LONG gone. Mumbles and stumbles through equations and problems just once before expecting you to know how to complete them back, front, and sideways. I am a 4.0 student and I failed this class. It's basic math & somehow I was spending literally 20 hours a week to complete the homework assignments. (with a tutor b/c he won't help you) He doesn't explain anything & just expects you to already know what to do. I feel like you're set up to fail from the start with him. Please spare yourself.
Even if you are decent at Math don't take this class. He is an awful teacher and could care less if you succeed. He barely knows the math himself. Makes frequent errors and doesn't explain anything. Its amazing MCCC keeps him on staff. Worst teacher I ever had.
This was an asynchronous online course. If you read the text and learn the information before hand the videos are a great tool for better understanding but they will NOT teach you the material.
Had this as an asynchronous course, but even after I reached out, he put little effort in to communicate. This course was 90% learning and 10% scouring his videos for help. Even in videos, past the first example he writes out, he will fly through entire sections expecting people to understand with one example. If he is your last choice, defer!
I am a visual learner and prefer online but this was hard. I viewed about 4-5 of the online lessons but then went on to teach myself. When math problems are being explained they are all over the place, jumbled, and hard to follow.
DO NOT take Winterbottom with all costs. He is the worst professor I have ever had in my life. I had him for an online course & he teaches with videos from 2013. All the grades are from tests and quiz so if you bomb one test, youre screwed for the rest of the semester. He teaches like you already know how to do something. Montco get rid of him.

I wish I never took him. He is very forgetful and definitely does not know what he is doing half the time. I used to be really good in math and his tests and assignments are IMPOSSIBLE. Don't even bother asking him a question because he probably would give you the wrong answer anyway. Please steer clear of him at all costs.
I do not recommend this professor, boring class, no one wants to participate. Waste of time, money and resources.
He made me cry after the second day because I asked a question and I guess I should have just understood it. Ended up dropping it. My friend had him too and said he was beyond confusing, didn't want to help you, would often just randomly walk out of class and was overall not great.
Awful teacher, does not announce the dates of quizzes and tests on the syllabus and refuses to allow you to take them earlier in class if you have to leave before the end. Should retire.

DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! He doesn't read problems through. The way he teaches math is so outdated that i can't even teach myself at home because there's no videos on how he does it, and tests are very difficult. Class is an drag and there is no dialogue between students and the professor, he just solves problems while mumbling through them.
Do not take this professor if you have the choice. He doesn't explain how to do the problems he just does it, he expects his students to be be studying for 10-12 hours each week outside of class. The tests never seem to be anything like what we do in class. If you really put in the effort, don't have a job or social life you can succeed.
He doesnt teach you at all. If you have time go to tutor everyday take his class then.I got a C because I learned from tutor but not from him!! He wont understand how struggling you are. Also he doesnt know how to use ti-84 calculator for class.
Fair warning to avoid him. He consistently makes mistakes in teaching but expects flawless answers on test. I've found incorrect answers within the answer key he graded us on. Next to no partial grade given. It is possible to pass this guy only if you decide to commit 15-20 hours/week studying. Highly recommend you avoid him.
I have never failed a class in my life and I failed him. Stay away from this class if you wish to keep up your gpa because my average went from a 91% to a 79%. There was little to no help and no guidance. I tried to reach out but only received passive aggressive emails. This was the most stressful class I've ever taken only to fail in the end.

This guy is way too told to teach. No one in the class knows what going on or what he is saying. To make it worse no one in the class can read what he is writing down its all scribbles.
Worst part is this professor cannot teach a single class he's always late to class would randomly walk out during the class and the worst part is that his hand writing is sloppy and nobody in the class doesn't know what's he saying or writing and would get aggressive to anyone that walks out of his class. IM WARNING YOU GUYS DONT TAKE THIS MAN!!!!!

I feel like his years of teaching should come to an end, not in a mean way, he is very nice. His teaching methods are too outdated for this generation. He'll do problems on the board by himself as we sit behind him very confused. It's statistics so it's not a subject we can "just learn," it has to be taught. He's also strict with policies.

He's the worst professor I've ever had everyone in the class is miserable because of him nobody can't understand whats he's saying or writing and you would have to teach yourself at this point if you take him or go to tutoring sections if you have so much time I'm passing him with an A since I study on my own and totally understand him avoid him!

He's so wack I would NOT recommend taking this professor at all he won't help you at all and wants your answers to be perfect the same way as he does he makes so many errors that I knew about I had to go to tutoring because of him and study with a friend for statistics I should've took Pilla I heard he's good but winterbottom no avoid him.
Prof Winterbottom is by far the worst teacher I've ever had, and I have had a lot of bad teachers. No guidance, wants absolutely perfect answers, is often wrong in grading, does NOT teach, and I would not recommend him to anyone. Please avoid that poor excuse for a teacher at all costs. I was almost a 4.0 student before him. Drop his class or avoid
I have never really had any issues with any teachers throughout all my years of schooling, except for Mr. Paul, he has got to go.
I never struggle a class in my life and I struggle professor winterbottom intro to stats class his work is so hard to do and emailing him will would be impossible to get his attention as he never responds to emails please avoid him!!!
I had to get so much tutoring for his class and have genuinely never struggled so badly in a class. The math isn't even that hard he just doesn't explain things well. I recommend doing yourself a favor and not taking this class, it's not worth the headache.
His teaching days should be over now honestly not in a mean way I'm sure he's a nice guy but his teaching is just terrible even if you got to tutoring you won't pass him with an A or A- but if you are a full time student then you'll be fine taking him and worst thing is he doesn't know how to use a TI-84 calculator and would ask help void him.

Fair out warning do not take this professor at all. He doesn't explain lectures pretty well and would make the same mistake at all times he doesn't teach at all and would make us waste are time he doesn't even know how to use a TI-84 calculator as well I had to get tutor sections just to get my grade up to a C big shoutout to the tutors.
The reviews of professor winterbottom are true he doesn't teach at all he will not help you pass. I struggle so hard in his class and I did my best of it so far I still manage to get a D and I will have to retake math106 again in the spring with a different professor save urself from him he will not help you pass he will make you fail.
Just don't take him please avoid him at all costs he's a nightmare!

Terrible handwriting, handed out 5,000 documents throughout semester. Did not know/understand how to teach the material properly.
When I walked into professor winterbottom class I knew it was bad I had to drop him real quickly for Mat130 he didn't even know what he was doing the first day and didn't bother to give us office hours or give us help on problems he just sat there doing here and kept walking out of the class room for no reason.
Professor Winterbottom's MAT106 class is a real challenge. While the lectures can be dry, using unstuckstudy and the free textbook really helped me stay on top of the material. If you put in the work, you can get through this tough but manageable course.
Ouch tried taking a professor that will actually teach you the material prof. Winterbottom does not teach at all just goes through every problem and thinking that you will know what to do he also does get aggressive if you ask questions and will usually not assign homework within days and will assign 30 within a day and tough on grading
Professor didn't explain topics well and didn't answer questions properly. Had to withdraw from course when I'm usually an A student.
This professor should no longer be employed by the college. I dropped his course within the drop/add period. If you made the mistake of choosing him on a whim, I suggest dropping it. He is not there mentally at this point. He told us first class, if you email him saying the class is going "too fast," he will consider it inappropriate and report it.
I do see why everyone doesn't take winterbottom in person do you have to teach yourself although he does give you a lot of information however takes forever to reply back to you grades slowly gives out lots of homework and test are heavy however he's not tough on grading he is a bit fair as long you show your work overall I wouldn't take him again.
took the 10wk asynchronous course; only assignments are the tests and the final. use the textbook! lots of time in between assignment due dates. didn't interact at all really with the professor, but highly recommend the course if you need to pass it for major requirements
Took his 10wk Prob and Stats class online it was good since I learn so much coming from my pervious class where I took at a another college was terrible. I didn't interact with the professor not much but he did make the workload not heavy and test are the same as problems that he gave us I'd would recommend him online not sure in person though.
If you take his class, just keep in mind, he could barely hear or answer the questions of a student sitting less then 10 feet away from him. He was forgetful of where we were in the lessons, he goes quick, he can't hear unless you're speaking loudly, and he couldn't explain why I got problems wrong on the assignments. nice guy, but he can't teach.
