monotonous, but slow moving
HE MAKES CONCEPTS PRETTY CLEAR BUT HE IS NOT INTERESTED IN BEING NICE AT ALL. HE HAS AN ATTITUDE.
i am horrible in math and he helped me a lot out of class. he teaches by examples. test are easy problems. i recommend him
He's a little quirky (runs into chairs and desks a lot), but he explains everything very clearly through examples. He'll go over as many of the HW questions as you ask! An easy quiz almost every week, so your grade isn't made up of all tests.
he was the worst math professor I ever took. I avoided math for a long time after his class and retook it with a different prof this summer and it was excellent. stay away from his class!
Very nice guy, but he is a little odd. Seems like he's knows his stuff. Sometimes when you ask a question he seems not to understand any other way of getting an answer besides his way. He is smart and extremely helpful. Very fair tests.
Smart guy, knows his subject. leaves all studying to the student(no study guides or anything) but prepares you pretty well during the semester. pretty easy class, no trouble at all.
Nice guy, but maybe a little too smart for a college-level class - Would be better teaching a graduate course. Likes to explain why a theorem or principle is true, which isn't really necessary. Math lab plays a big part in this class.
Young is a very knowledgeable teacher. I got a B+ in the class, but I really had to study for it. If you have to take calculus then you are in for a long semester.
He has a very dry sense of humor and is pretty boring but he does a decent job of teaching the material and preparing you for his tests. Overall it is not the best class I have ever taken but it is decent and I am glad it is over!
That might not be the right code. It was stat. I hate math, but he was funny. Not really funny, though. Looked like Tom Green. Sort of.
cool guy...very good teacher. you will learn math even if you hate it. he goes slow. many easy quizzes. tests are not hard. the final is not hard either, if you study for it. cool guy...maybe way to smart for a 100 level class.
very easy class. strict attendance policy, quizes weekly, but they are easy, and some are take home. However, he seems really full of himself and not very approachable.
Great professor, course is not that difficult overall. Gives plenty of help if needed. Made an A with little effort.
Great teacher, good class.
Great Great teacher.Fair and patient. As long as you take ALL his notes, studying is easy and you don't really need the book.I made an A with hardly any effort. He is not that approachable though.
I had him for Maymester Statistics. Lots of quizzes help your grade, as long as you do the homework. Very helpful and takes the time to make sure the material is understood by most of the class.
He is very easy, you don't have to read because he gives you all the notes and explains well. His tests are exactly like his notes and he gives partial credit so if you study the notes you can't fail. He also drops the 2 lowest quiz grades. TAKE HIM!
mr young is awesome. I took this class last semester with another teacher and had to drop out half way through! He is very clear, moves at a slow pace, and an extremely fair grader. Take him! He is funny too!
Very easy. He gives lots of quizzes and his tests are really easy and tells you everything that will be on them. He also moves very slow. All you have to do is copy everything from the board and come to class and you will get an A.
Really easy class... Easy quizzes, easy tests. Only thing: Don't ask him questions.. His dry sense of humor can make you feel like an idiot. I never did the homework and got an A in the class.. Take him.. It's an easy A.
He isnt very approachable, but the class isnt hard. He gets you with the attendence though, bc the quizes are generally unannouced and everyone always seems to be absent the day of the quiz...not a bad class at all to take if you can get to every class
Easy-going, no attendance policy. Tests are damn difficult. He's tricky w/ the exams! Funny guy in a weird way.
Easiest math class at the college of charleston. dont even buy the textbook..everythings in the notes. real easy
A great professor. Very clear when explaining things and moves at a good pace. Will gladly go over any topic until you understand. Does plenty of practice problems in class so you know what your're doing on the homework (if you do it, it's optional). Announces the quizzes (12) and tests (3)
Great prof, easiest class I've ever taken in my college carreer. never studied & made an EASY A. quizes to keep things fresh, and gives formulas for tests. TAKE HIM SOOOOOO EASY!
He has this funny sense of humor that makes class kind of interesting, but it is still a little bit boring. The class was really easy. He does not take attendence and homework is not taken up. I would suggest anyone for this class.
Great class! Easy A as long as you come to class. Lots of quizzes but he usually lets you take them home or they are open book. Tests are easy! Pay attention & come to class even though there is no attendance policy. He's a funny guy!
Very clear and straightforward. Goes nice and slow for those of us who are retarded in math! Tests are very fair and homework is entirely your choice.
Great class! Easy A but you learn a lot too! Funny guy. Easy to understand & follow. Very clear lecturer. Gives tons of examples. Helps to review before tests. Lots of easy quizzes=lots of chances for A's. Great class even if you're not so good at math. He makes you want to learn it and do well!
This is a good class if you are not very good at math. But, go to the math lab if you need extra help. He is difficult to approach, and makes you feel stupid if you are having trouble. Dry sense of humor; quizzes are not too hard, neither are tests.
i am awful at math, but he gives so many examples, that are versions of what will be on the test it is hard to not understand, unless if you dont review before the tests. most of the quizzes are take home or open notes, he is great!!! take him especially if you have problems understanding math
This was the best math teacher I've ever had at the college! He always gives very clear examples and explains it so well that you understand everything. If you have questions he is always there to answer them, but he is very sarcastic. nice layed back teacher...funny and an easy Final.. take him..
This guy is the greatest. Notes are clear and the work is easy to understand and do. If you don't understand; atleast attempt the homework and ask him for help w/ what you don't understand. He's perhaps one of the best professors on campus.. DEFINITELY TAKE HIS CLASSES!!!
wasn't excited about taking this class but he made it allright. gives 50 examples for everything. take home quizzes. fairly simple tests. very nice man. would recommend him anytime!
EASY! Drops 2 lowest quiz grades. VEry easy grader. Take if you have the chance.
I am horrible at math but I have an A in this class. He gives partial credit on assigned work with is helpful. He is a really cool guy and well worth taking this class with. I'd recommend him over all other Stats professors. Paul is running a jam up class and you will be very glad that you enrolled in his class. Trust me!!!
Really funny in a very goofy way. I don't like math, but he made it easy. Take home quizzes and like 4 tests and a final. I definitely recommend--especially if math isn't your thing.
Paul Young is the man. I think he is hilarious but i seem to be the only person. Really easy to understand and makes jokes like "Can you do this homework problem?" "yes... yes i can"... pause...
Knows his math but tough to make a good grade. You can have the right answer but he will still knock down your proof if he doesn't like it. No mercy on absences either.
Pretty easy. Lots of quizzes worth 10 points. Take notes and you will do just fine. Don't bother with thehomework he assigns. GO to class. hes not fat or out of shape either
He answers questions with a question, which can get kind of annoying. But other than that he is easy to understand and has some silly stories to mix in every once in a while. Lots of quizzes and only a couple of problems on the tests.
Prof. Young is a really awesome teacher. I was horrible in statistics in Highschool, but in his class I could do no wrong. He cracks a lot of jokes that are pretty corney, but it helps make the class more interesting. And he's helpful as long as you ask. Plus, he doesn't check hw assignments. And sometimes gives take home quizzes. Not a bad guy.
Prof. Young is a great math professor. I haven't had an A in math in forever. Trust me, i've taken Calc, and all the other maths, and he's the only one that speaks on a normal human level. His classes are laid back, and he has a great sense of humor. I recommend him for any math class.
Great math professor. No attendance policy. All you do in class is take notes and he gives plenty of examples for everything you do. Quizzes are weekly and there are 3 tests in the semester plus a final. The class is really easy to keep up as long as you go to enough classes. Easy math class!
Lots of quizzes both take home and in class. He doesn't take attendance but definately go because the notes are so helpful. He writes everything on the board. Only a couple tests. He doesn't grade teh homework but if you actually do the homework and quizzes then it is easy. The problem is that it is easy not to. He is a pretty funny guy too.
he doesnt make you come to class, but you need to. i LOVED this class..its an EASY A and its really not bad at all. i like math alot though. dr young is not the easiest person to get along with all the time though...but it really is an easy A..i would DEF recommend this class to everyone who wants to take statistics.
Professor Young is amazing! I had never had stats. before and he made the course very understandable! It's an easy A if you go to class, take notes and do the occasional homework. There are 3 tests and 12 quizzes but he drops the 2 lowest quiz grade. He is a wondeful professor and I highly reccomend him!
His look with bother you all semester, he looks like someone right off the show "what not to wear", other than that almost all quizzes are open notes or take home, only 3 tests, theyre harder than the quizzes since you never learn the stuff due to take home quizzes but over all easy class, he explains material good
I am not a math student, but loved this class. I got an A If you go to class, take notes then you cannot fail. There are 12 test lowest 2 dropped some are take home, 3 big test. All easy if you study. Writes everything on the board and explains in great detail. I would take any class from him.
Another one of CofC's slightly eccentric, but fine professors. After having poor results with math professors at other institutions, it was a huge relief to have a professor that spoke English as his native language. Tests and quizzes are pretty straightforward and homework is always assigned, but never collected.
When material got more difficult I realized that this professor is totally UNWILLING to help students who have questions-- even legitimate questions. It infuriated me because I genuinely wanted to do well, had perfect attendance and paid attention in class yet he genuinely didn't CARE to answer questions. Extremely arrogant...beware.
i liked this class. he writes every word that comes out of his mouth on the board. 3 tests. 12 quizzes, but he drops the two lowest quiz grades. cumulative final. he always goes over every quiz problem and test problem. assigns homework every class, but it's not mandatory. take him.
He is very impersonable to talk to, and if you ask questions he always replies with "well, uhhh.... if you wish." so that doesnt help, but all in all easy teacher, simple tests and quizzes and nothing unexpected. Just take notes and review them and you should have no problem getting an A.
Enjoyed Stat! good teacher. the problems you do in class right before a quiz help alot. quizzes are frequent but easy.
Stats with him wasn't bad at all. I hate math with a passion but he is very clear about what you're learning and gives alot of examples. Gives alot of quizzes but is a very generous grader (I got a 50 one time and didn't answer any of the questions). His tests aren't very hard and he's a really nice guy.
GREAT professor, I hate math and he made it as painless as it could be. He may seem arrogant but I would react the same way with the questions he gets from some students (mostly freshman). So, read the syllabus, do the homework, study for tests, and you'll receive an A, easily. Very helpful if you use office hours, not great at returning e-mails!
I had him for Stats. It's true he can be a little sarcastic to students but the work load is easy and he doesn't demand much. I learned stuff in his class. If you need the credit then take him!
He's really quirky but funny! He gives take home quizzes with most hw. If no one has questions he gives in class pop quizzes though. has 3 exams and a final. doesn't collect hw but doing it definitely helps with the tests. explains any problem if you ask. Sometimes it's hard to get a straight answer out of him but you can tell he cares! take him!
Gives really clear notes with a lot of examples. Frequent take home quizzes and occasional open note pop quizzes. Takes a bit to get an answer out of him if you ask a question but is very helpful.
Not helpful, not understanding, impossible to talk to, class was terribly boring. Don't take him. If you can, find a professor who actually cares if you do well or not because he definitely doesn't.
young is a cool professor. he likes to make jokes during class and tries really hard to educate his students. hes really thorough with his notes and provides lots of examples. this was a class that you cant just glide through, but if you put some time in you'll have no problem getting a decent grade.
Do not take this professor unless you are already quite knowledgeable in calculus. He is probably one of the least helpful professors I have ever had at cofc. He does not convey the sense that he is approachable for your questions, and he is often very sarcastic when people ask questions in class. I would avoid him at all costs.
Professor Young was my favorite professor! He writes out all examples on the board very thoroughly and if you have a question he will do the entire problem for you. I loved this class! If you go to class and pay attention there is no reason you should not get an A. Take him, he's precious!
Not awful but not good. He doesnt take attendance but gives out pop quizzes so if you miss class you're taking the risk of a 0 on a quiz. He assumes everyone understands everything and goes way too fast and tends to test us on the hardest problems he can find--I don't recommend him but he's not the worst teacher for calc out there
Not one of the hardest teachers at cofc, but def not one of the easiest. Tests you on the hardest questions possible when the examples were doable. Don't take him if you want a A. Pop quizzes almost once a week.
I hadn't taken math in two years since taking this class, nor had I ever taken stats, but this class was literally SO easy. I would feel fine not showing up and still knowing what I was doing. Waited for it to get more difficult. Clear with notes, short take home quizzes, optional homework, sarcastic but goofy guy. Recommend!
Professor Young is not very helpful, but he is also not very difficult. The material starts out super easy but gets harder at the end of class, so be prepared to be confused. He rarely takes attendance, doesn't care whether or not you do homework, and really just doesn't care what you do
Exams are very similar to class notes, so taking good notes is very helpful. Goes over a lot of examples that make the material clear. The homework can be difficult at first, but is usually pretty straightforward and he offers extra credit.
Tests are challenging but the frequent take home quizzes are very helpful and boost your grade and theyre only like 2-3 questions he's a nice guy and no attendance policy
probably the least helpful professor I've ever had. Tests are incredibly difficult and I felt like I learned nothing. Retook the class over the summer and learned everything he tried to teach in a whole semester in 3 weeks.
Just lectures the whole time and can be short when answering simple questions. He lets you use notes on the quizzes and then the tests are with no notes or study guides and are much harder. Take this class if you are already good at math, if you struggle, find a different professor because he is not much help.
he explains things well and writes everything on the board so you can take clear notes. there's a quiz every few classes but he drops a few of them. the exams basically consist of one or two problems for every major thing we learned in the unit. if you study you'll be fine. he's pretty funny too. he's unclear about making up work though
This professor is not willing to help you at all! If you know you will miss a quiz or a test and ask to make it up, he will not let you. Attendance is not mandatory but if he hands out a quiz you cannot make it up. If you ask him for anything he is very passive aggressive and will not help you out at all. I will never take him again, big mistake.
The tests are much harder than the quizzes. If you're good at math, take this professor. If you're not, don't. He rushes through things quickly and isn't very good at answering questions.
Pretty good professor, but my main issue was that most of the time when I would come to him with a question, he would never directly answer it, instead making you seek it out from other classmates and professors.
You have to go to class in order to do well but the notes in class are almost identical to the tests and quizzes. He assigns homework nightly but doesn't check it, so the textbook isn't exactly mandatory.
Paul Young is an excellent professor. MATH 303 was one of my favorite Math classes I have ever taken. He emphasizes concepts, cares about his students, and gives lots of useful examples. Tests follow closely from homework and notes. I recommend taking him for MATH 303 to any Math Major looking for a rewarding, informative experience.
I've taken a decent number of math courses and this has by far been the best. Dr. Young does a great job of using examples to explain the abstract concepts taught in the course. Tests would consist of about 7 short answer questions and your choice of 3 out of 4 proofs. Highly recommend this professor.
This will be the easiest class you will ever take. The lectures, quizzes and exams are similar to each other he just changes the numbers, but not the working. Its hard not to pass his class.
I am in an online synchronous class and he has handled it very well. He answers questions in class and through email. He responds fast. His notes/lectures are usually very similar to the tests/quizzes. Pretty standard class, do the work and pay attention and you will do well.
Paul Young is the best math professor I have ever had. You can tell he really cares about his students and their learning. The class will be easy if you do the quizzes and attend lectures. He answers every question very thoroughly. The test and quizzes are almost identical.
I took this class online via. zoom and I thought it was great. I have never been good at math, but I found that prof. Young's teaching styles worked really well for me. He gives lots of examples of problems during class, and exams and quizzes are almost identical to the in class examples. If you take good notes, this class will be an easy A
I took him online this semester and have no complaints at all. Professor Young is amazing. He was super easy and I've never been good at math. He gives quizzes and tests but they are easy and short. Homework was optional if you need help with the content. 10/10 would recommend him for this course.
10/10
For those who aren't great w/ math, don't take Prof Young. The class is lecture heavy, with him going over problems in class and maybe a quiz. The only grades in the class are quizzes, tests and the final. It takes several days to get a response back via email, and office hours are a 50/50 shot. He is very rude to students out of class. Avoid him
He is very good at explaining statistics. You definitely need to go to class and he kind of stonewalls people when they miss class (unfortunately sometimes even when they get sick) and need help catching up. I personally never had any problems with him, and I did feel that the class was low stress as long as you pay attention and practice.
Professor Young writes all the notes on the chalkboard as he goes through them during class. You can tell he's been doing this for years but he hasn't lost the passion for teaching. I actually really enjoyed the way he presented the material to us this semester. I would totally recommend him
I've taken stats with almost all the math professors at CofC and Prof Young has been the best one by far. He goes in depth when explaining topics and answers student questions really well. There were weekly take home quizzes that were no more than a few questions. Never answers emails but will meet with you outside of office hours
Prof young had a very interesting personality... he would not really give clear answers to any students questions. Aside from that, his lectures were very good. I did not have a problem with any of the concepts that we learned, and I felt confident going into every exam we had. Also weekly take home quizzes which are a grade booster.
Professor Young is the best math teacher I have ever had. He writes notes on the board so well and explains things perfectly with practice problems after every new unit/formula. We get take-home quizzes which are so easy because all you need to do is use your notes from class. The tests are straightforward. He is the best! Such a sweet man.
He is not a reasonable person AT ALL. I had a wedding on the day of the final that I told him about after the first class and refused to let me take it early. He NEVER response to emails. His test have random vocab on them that he doesn't go over in class. Take home quiz every week that is super easy. Class is fairly east but would not recommend
Professor Young is a great professor if you never have anything go wrong in your life. He refuses to follow CofC's absence policy and will not take your work even if you have a doctor's note. Just beware that he doesn't make any accommodations unless absolutely necessary. He also will never answer your emails.
Dr. Paul Young is a decent teacher, however, he is not an understanding man. If you are ill, he will not make an accommodation for you. He speaks in circles when you ask him a direct question and he can be very condescending -- he fells his competency is threatened. I have not had a good experience as a WOMAN while taking his course.
This man is so unhelpful. He does not listen to his students when they need help. He only cares about his schedule and his grading system. If you ask for any understanding with personal events outside of the classroom he will dismiss it. BAD, DO NOT RECOMMEND! He seems to like the guys though, not the girls.
This professor should not work at CofC. He does not seem to care about the learning and growth of his students. He only seems to like the material, but not the people (especially the girls). I wish I could have had a better experience then I did. I urge you all to avoid this professor.
Go to class and take notes and you'll be fine. Quizzes are take home, homework is optional. He requires the textbook but I didn't use it once. The quizzes and exams are set up the exact same way the notes are. Very easy to understand!!
hes sexist imma be so for real like he clearly just hates gils
RUN. Cant ask a question without getting an " im not sure" as a response. No makeups allowed under any circumstances, even if it goes against cofc. He does not explain material. Simply rushes through an example and expects you to understand. Fill in the blank sections on exams he makes up in his head! (told us that himself.)
Professor Young's math class is a mixed bag - he's engaging in lectures, but can be inflexible. Weekly take-home quizzes are a grade boost, and unstuckstudy helped me breeze through the material.
Great teacher, had to drop bc my algebra skills are not up to par. He teaches very well with many example problems to use. He gives take home quizzes each week, but they are worth hardly anything so don't anticipate using those as a crutch. If you can't do problems without looking at example problems, you won't pass. Love the guy, very hard class.
Worst professor I've ever had. Very rude, doesn't care about his students or care to help them. He isn't good at answering emails and not good at being available for office hours. Moves on without making sure everyone understands what he's trying to teach (I say trying because he fails to teach). Do yourself a favor and DON'T take him.
Prof Young was nice but not that effective of a teacher, he gives a lot of quizzes, but they are at home and very useful for studying for tests. His lectures were boring but his example problems made it easier to study.
Many quizzes that can help your grade if you are not good with exams. He is a bit awkward but super sweet other than that. He helps a lot at office hours and he is a good person and a good professor.
Do not take him. If you miss a quiz, you will never be able to make it up. He teaches things way too over complicated. Very strange and weird teacher. Laughs at kids with accommodations and does not help.
