The BEST math prof @ ECC. Wish I could take him for all my math classes.
He is a overall good teacher. Summer is extremely painful, and i would not recommend taking this class if taking any others in summer. 4 Tests and Final = 85% of ur grade. The rest is Hw and Labs.

A very nice good teacher who graduted from Harvard University. His lecture is very clear and fun, interesting. But his test is kinda hard. Overall, Excellent teacher.
Excellent teacher! He explains the material pretty well, and he's pretty funny too. Tests are a little difficult, but if you do the work and study, then you should be fine.
the best teacher! highly recommended.
Got to be kidding me, if you’re a genius, go ahead and take him, he'll be a great prof. But if your the just a little above the average, then his lectures will go so fast its hard to keep up, he can't explain very well. The first test is easy though but.
Actually know the stuff he's teaching, better than UC Professors
i love the way of his teaching mathmatics. his explanations are so helpful and clear. he give us various types of questions so that we can make sure the concept in detail. whenever i take his class, i even think that i wanna be a mathmatician.
Calculus is very hard subjest T_T. But Mr.Yun makes it more clear and easy to understand. If you are willing to do homeworks and study hard, then you can pass for sure. He is the best teacher that I have ever had on math-kind and helpful.
Lectures are detailed and well organized, though some complain about his accent.(which i dont think is true). Tests are fair. His final review before the test is critical. He puts 1-10 questions on the board and if you study those, you will have no prob
very nice and helpful guy. explains material very clearly. tests r a little hard, so only take him if u wanna learn. but i still recommend him strongly.
Awesome teacher, knows his material and is highly educaded. really wants the student to learn. Lectures make sense and explains until whole class knows it.
He lectures in speed mode. You WILL learn the material if you pay attention to his every word. If you stop paying attention for atleast a minute, you'll get lost.
The greatest teacher. If you want to, he will guide you not only for your grade, but also for your life. He always thinks how make math fun. He has magic that dfficult material turn out to be easy.
What makes him a unique instructor is that he makes calculus easy. He never hesitates to go over all the trig and algebra you might have not understood, and puts it on the board in advance so that you can make a solid note out of it. No retarded question on tests and fair grading.
tries his best to teach and cares for students. BUT difficult tests and sometimes hard to understand
he expalins everything in detail and says "its a peice of cake" but you know what? it is really a peice of cake once you understand it. he made math easy for me.
He tries to teach math concepts not technical math skills... highly rec. finish hw at the right time you could get A easilly. His math labs are taking long time to finish but easy and interesting. some test prob. exactly from his lecture and gives lots of hints during the test
Prof. Yun is a GREAT teacher. 5 tests plus 1 final. Tests are not too bad if you attend every lectures and do all the homework. If you are not really good @ Math, he's maybe not the right teacher to take because his lectures are speedy. However, if you like Math, you will love him.
very cool teacher. he made class fun, by drawing pictures for a better understanding. he was very helpful. i would reccomend him to anyone.
He is great teacher!!!!!!! I explained really well. If you attend the class, you will get a good grade.
He's aight, a good man. enjoys what he does and is funny to watch his drawings, comments, and explainations. haven't took a test but I'am sure it's not that hard, it's easy material!!
Anyone that uses a banana as a factor in a equation is a bomb teacher to me
I love this guy. He is a happy person and he is really nice with students. If you do your work you will pass his class, he will not let you slack off.
hard but very helpful. He encourage his students a lots. If you take him, make sure you really want to study. If you can get A in his class, you're understanding the material very well. And don't worry, he'll help you.
He is the best math teacher I've ever had. Do your homework; it will be assigned every day. He's helpful, clear, very humorous, and keeps you from falling asleep.
i disagree with everyone in here. i think this guy sucks at teaching. he doesn't even motivate us either. he told my class to just drop because we suck that bad.
he is CLEAR n DOWN TO EARTH!take your responsibility n spend 15 hours/week out of class!! if u r laid-back, u wont succeed in math n dont put the blame on him!! peace
see this not biased
he is such a great teacher ever i had!!! his lecture is very easy to understand. he explains until the every student understands it, and likes to help each of us. just visit his office if u have problem... test is very similar w/ hw and soooo easy if you finish ur hw n make sure understand it.
Prof. Yun is the greatest math teacher i've ever known as a science major student. He is very helpful and knowledgeble. He really cares about his student and tries to help. His lecture is fun and energetic. As long as you do the homework, and review his notes before the tests, the tests are pretty easy and streightforward.
very nice teacher.very helpful.he understand that u dunno many things.he's funny.his exams r so easy just like examples he give in class.do the hw and review n u will feel so happy in his class.he will never bother u
Awesome Person! Very good heart. I took his class m-th 1hr class (easier to digest)I usually procrastinate until last moment. I usually get C's. I could have easily aced this class had I studied more then 8 hours a week. Interesting, class is not hard, but u end up understanding all aspects and difficult problems too. Know reviews in&out. do hw-> A+
he is a very patient and clear guy, really, and i leared more and did better in his class than i did in high school honors math courses. if you dont like math than this guys isnt going ot make you like it. if your deticaded and arent an ADD spaz this class will be easy
He is a very smart man, and his teaching style will prove it. His lectures are lightning fast so make sure you can grasp everything and ask questions. Tests are fairly easy, just study the material but he will want you to do the problems in the manner that was taught. I Don't recommend to anyone weak at math.
He is a very interesting guy, as long as you do the homework and attend his class, you will be fine. He is very helpful, yu can ask him for any difficulties. He explains very clear, even though you don't preview any material, he will make you understand during the class-time.
have never had such a BAD teacher. because of him i started hated math! AVOID AT ALL COST. if you can, take cohen. he sooo much better
easiest math class i've ever taken. just know his lectures well, then you can get an A on test. go to every lecture so you dont miss out. dont really have to do homework correctly. just show some effort. the key word in his class is: his lecture. know lecture = A in class.
Yun is a great teacher, he knows his stuff and how to adapt to his students needs. Do the HW, ask your questions and you'll do fine. DON'T PUT THE LABS OFF TILL THE LAST MINUTE
the important thing in this class is to not fall behind. it is imperative to go to lecture and do the assigned homework. going to the mesa study group also helps a lot. Yun's class is HARDER THAN MY CALCULUS CLASS AT BERKELEY!
His tests are reasonable, however, the subject of calculus is what's challenging. If you've never taken calc, you better "be on your toes" if you want to suceed in his class. We started off with 40+ students, and ended up with about half at the end. You can't slack. I earned an A, but it wasn't easy. Overall Yun's an excellent professor.
Mr. Yun, thank you for making sure I understood each step during your lectures. I appreciate what I have learned and I hope to see you again in Calculus. I'll try to "study hard" and retain my skills. Thanks again,
Very helpful, willing to stay 15 mins after class to clarify lecture. take advantage of that. he does go on a speed streak sometimes during the lecture. also the labs are a pain in the .... jus do them right away. that way if u get stuck. which happens to everyone cause were using Mathimatica 5.2 the teacher helps you with the labs. tests are fair
Mr.Yun is the greatest math teacher of all times! he is soooo awesome! Math never made sense to me, but after taking his class I learned alot! If you have hard time understanding math, I highly recommend you take his class. He makes learning fun with his good humor. I rate him 5+
WORST MISTAKE I'VE EVER MADE!!! does not explain clearly. not a effective teacher. for the love of god don't take him. save yourself.
Stats not recommended over winter school. Too much information in 5 weeks and he won't slow down. Very nice professor, but if you're slow in statistics, I would suggest another teacher.
Mr. Yun is the coolest math teacher ever, I would recommend him because he makes the class fun and interesting. He makes it look easy by showing step by step with clarity. Don't take other math class, so boring. He make jokes that is so funny and the homework is easy and not too much. All I can say is that he's a great teacher.
a great professor.
for those who understand math well, take this guy. he explains his lectures as clearly as possible and he makes it fun cuz u get to learn "A BUNCH OF TRICKS." took him over the summer '06 and got an A. calc is hard tho, but once u understand his lectures, u should be good to go.
excellent teacher , but remember his class is nooooottt easy
Good teacher but gives a lot of work.
Mr. Yun is an AWESOME teacher!! As long as you do the work you will pass. Tests aren't that hard just study.
Really cool.
GREATEST PROFESSOR!! He really make calculus interesting. The lecture is clear. He's also very kind to help you. Lots of HW, but if you do it, you will be fine in the test. recommend to people who really want to learn about math
Great teacher. Took him for statistics during the winter and got and A. To be honest, You have to do a lot of studying of the nextbook and your notes and you'd easiky come up with and A. He has a pretty good sense of humor and cares about your well being even after you're done with his class.
I LOVE PROFESSOR YUN! HE IS AMAZING TAKE HIM! TAKE HIM!!! I love him. He makes everything a breeze! If you don't like math he will make you like it. If you love math, he will keep you entertained and will get you EVEN MORE interested! YAY! I LOVE YUN!
Yun is ok,funny guy.Helps u understand all concepts nd tends to teach fast.Bad parts are that he only has tests, hw nd the final no quizzes to help boost ur grade or see how well u understand the concepts. The hw is easy its kind of long.I dont think he grades well on his tests he takes off so many pts for such tiny things which can cost u ur grade.
Just study and you will pass his class dont take his class if you are taking on a full load because you are going to have to put in some time to studying if you want to pass hone your math skills and you will do fine this class includes a lot of review including algebra and trig but dont take it for granted that you know it all keep reviewing
i think he might be the most ideal teacher at hellco, he is tough enough to make u study, is strait forward on what he wants and what will be on the test, i slacked off too much and got a C cause of it, but if u put in areasonable amount of time u will be fine for this and the next class. all around great guy and wants to see u do well
I can't possibly praise Mr. Yun enough with only 350 characters at my disposal. His methods are vastly superior to those of my current math teacher, and I will go out of my way to take his math courses in the future. Luckily he already taught me a lot of the material in my current course, so I'm not doing as badly as I otherwise would be. Take him!
He is a great teacher. maybe the best math teacher in elcamino. but in order to get a good grade in his class, you gotta work for it. Test questions are mostly based on the reviews and problems he covered during the class. Do your homework, review for the test, you can get either A or B.
He is a good teacher. He like to proof all the formulae, tat's make sense... I like his teaching skill. Also, he is a kind teacher.
I've never seen like this teacher. He is very good. everything was so easy, and fun with him in math class.
Just an awesome, awesome instructor. He takes time not just to speak on the subject but to give examples and activities that make the subject much more easier to understand.
He is AMAZING! teachingstyle is very gud makes stats as easy 4 u as u want..he is extremely helpful exams r pretty str8 forward everythng is from lecture no surprise...he does go on tangents during lecture but he has a heart full of gold =)
Best teacher on campus.
Amazing amazing amazing prof! His class was the first math class that I ever got a B in! (which is a good thing b/c math isn't my best subject). He's very caring about his students and an extremely nice guy. He reminds me of a "dad" figure. Awesome teacher! If you have the opportunity or take his class, DO IT!
Pre-calculus over the summer is not recommended, but I made it through with a C. Prof made class interesting and classwork manageable. Very helpful & flexible -overall a good teacher & person.
This Teacher is very nice and helps you. But he is always late. He goes too fast on his lectures and keeps you in class longer than the time. His labs are annoying, but he helps you with them. The class is hard, hw is collected when you are ready to take a test.
He's a good teacher, cares for his students, and really breaks down the concepts. Tests are quite difficult, but they're not impossible. You have to be willing to give as much as he is giving you to earn an good grade in his class.
He shows up late to class everyday, which is extremely annoying!!! He lets his students out late everyday as well, which is even more annoying!!! His tests are pretty hard. No multiple choice, no calculator, no cheat sheets. I honestly wouldn't recommend him.
Okay this class i must say it's not easy. His tests are HARD.. If you like math and want to learn then take him. Labs are alright but he lectures so fast.
he is perfect. if you want to understand math just take him. his lecture is so clear and conceptual.
Yun is the definitely the best math teacher one can ever find at ECC. What makes Yun unique: He teaches students intuitively rather than theoretically and always shows the easiest way out rather than making math look complicated (this explains why you don't need cheat sheets). Tests come from his review and what he emphasizes in his lecture ONLY.
think he's pretty easy... best way is while lecturing, lesson to what he says, you dont have to study much for he classes, you pick it up real fast because of the way he teaches, take it, all I can say is to take it and you're chilleeen!!!
He is one of the most creative teachers I've ever met! His teaching style is pretty cool. He has ability to teach students lots of stuff and let them enjoy his classes. Tests are easy if u really study hard and finish hw on time. I liked his active class atmosphere. Hope he can teach me again in the future! Best Prof! Highly Recommand!
He's the best! Professor Yun is one of the nicest professors ive met. he really cares about the students success and wants everyone to do well.
He is so FUNNY. The class is pretty easy if you have an common knowledge of math like basic operations (multiplication). He is cool on attendance but it is pretty helpful to show up because he shows you easy ways in class that you need to see him do.
Total jerk! His teaching style sucks. I hate hate hate him. He was very tricky when I took that class. He doesn't want you to succeed. He desires for all students to fail!!!
Prof. Yun is a very nice guy. He's willing to help students who don't understand the material and his tests aren't that hard because he lectures on questions in class that are just like the ones on his tests. Definitely recommend him!
Great teacher, he teaches pre-calculus really well, understood him fully. For the tests, it is not hard, just do the homework and study the study guides, you will be fine.
Mr. Yun is SUCH a sweetheart. THE BEST Math professor ever!! Had I not taken his class, my entire college experience would not have been the same. He truly cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I hated..no ABHORED math because my previous teachers SUCKED. But he makes everything so simple and fun, I had the highest grade in the class!
Prof. Yun is one of the best math instructors at El Camino! Everything on his exams comes straight from his lectures and his hw packets. Textbooks are not needed for his algebra and trig classes but he recommends them for reference. Very good at breaking down complex mathematical concepts into the simplest way possible. Highly recommend!!
Very helpful, upbeat professor, but I will never take math again. It was easy at first, but it just became unbearable with all the material he taught us in a short period of time. He was always available to help, but he just would not slow down during class, just kept lecturing.Kept us after class everyday. IF YOU AREN'T A MATH WHIZ DON'T TAKE HIM!
He is a berkeley and harvard grad..a very promising start. honestly, i abhor maths with a passion and yet i am soo sad to be leaving his class. the methods by which he teaches u will stick with u 4EVA..he is hilarous, ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP NO MATTER WHAT. GENUINELY CARES. GENIUS...tests are super similar to study guides.
Although his class was at 7am, I do not regret taking his class at all. He loves what he teaches, and he takes pride in seeing his students succeed. I didn't even buy the book for his class, and I still got an A thanks to his unique teaching technique. A must take for anyone who wants a break from the usual (and boring) textbook math.
Seriously the best math teacher i have ever taken at El Camino. Not only does he clearly explain the problem, but he explains the concepts behind them. His teaching style is definitely unique. Mr. Yun expands so much on just ONE concept. Also cares so much for his students. Will gladly and hopefully take him in the future. Thanks Mr Yun! :)
Ok The lectures are Crystal clear and simply amazing. kind of a jerk and picky though.recommended as teacher but would make a horrible, unreliable mentor.
Informative, concise, clear, intellectual, mathematically passioned, & excellent at analogies.Learn from his technique but do not accept his simplicity. You need to analyze more in order to earn the A. Trust me, analysis & patience. Also, be meticulous with hw. Don't miss lectures, he will hate you. Review all the class notes, it will be tested.
Best math teacher. Ever. I got a C on the first test because I wasn't ready for all the work it required, but after that I started studying more, going to office hours, etc. It worked and I ended up with an A. He is so helpful and encouraging and told me at the end of the semester that he would write me a letter of recommendation. I love Prof. Yun!
He tells you at the beginning of the course that he had to do the Homeworks 5 time to understand the subject and will hate to see any1 thats getting straight As without doing the HW! Also if you r smarter than him try not to show off a lot in class cuz you'll pay DEARLY on tests!
Professor Yun comes off as a very nice, dedicated professor. At first he goes an understandable pace, allowing one to learn the material well. After the first exam he speeds things up. Never uses a textbook, but instead gives his own handouts of problems. He does one or two of them and continues. In 1 class he does 5 chapters, so many get lost.
I can promise, with a little effort you will learn and understand math with this professor. He starts the homework in class, what you don't finish becomes homework. He will go over the work multiple times as well until everyone is on the same page. Probably one of the best math teachers I've ever had.
Really, very, extremely helpful and great instructor! He is perhaps the best math teacher I've had in ALL my life! The class (more so, the subject) is a bit challenging, but Yun really knows how to break it down, making sure you comprehend the concepts & grasp a full view of the subject! I really recommend him to anyone who really WANTS to learn!
Take him only if you are free and careful person. You cannot survive in his class with heavy load. Many hw and self study. Careless mistakes cost 1-2.5pt each, but 30-40 is full. 2 careless mistakes can destroy your grade entirely. (If you take Hacking's phy with Yun's Math, I am sure you will have C/D/F/W in one(or both) class)
The material is hard and he sometimes go real fast so we cant get them. But his tests are much more easier than his examples and homework. Easy for an A!
He is the best at El camino. by Mohammad Pezeshki
Best math professor I've had in awhile. The homework in this class does take a long time so if you already have a heavy load or are lazy, do not take this class. The homework can get pretty complicated but his tests questions are simple and reasonable. You will enjoy math much more after taking his class. P.S. Prof Yun is adorable :)
Mr. Yun is seriously one of the best teachers there could ever be; he should be a model of what kind of person to be in the future. His funny antics help you tremendously throughout his course along with a willingness to help. If he says memorize, YOU MEMORIZE, if he says jump, you jump. BE ON TIME to catch all the notes!
Best math teacher ever!! He has very good analogies that makes the material understandable. I also like how he related the problems to real life. He's also funny and you can tell he really cares about his students.
I always tell him that I just understand a little bit about his lessons. Because I feel that he put all his heart inside the lectures. I can’t understand all of this; he teaches us so much things .And with a little bit understanding, I usually got an A. He did create a comfortable class with the clear lectures.
If you are lazy, then it is not a great class for you. I am Fall 2011 Student. His lecture and round table helps you a lot! his homework is quite challenge, but fun! Test is based on homework and lecture! Even though Prof.Yun hates me, I am always recommend him for math 270. P.S. Prof. Yun! You are the best teacher I ever had before!!
I loved Prof Yun! He was super helpful, went over everything very clearly, and was easy. You don't use the textbook at all. He goes over everything like 10 times, which can be annoyingly repetitive. Homework is what we do in class. Four tests, two finals, a packet for each test, and test corrections. I got an A and only studied before tests.
First off, do not purchase the Linear Algebra book, he rarely used it for HW and his notes were better. Second, I enjoyed his class though I did not enjoy the amount of workload I had to put into this class, though I got the grade I wanted. It's hard, not doubt, if you take a lot of units like I did, it will be even harder. Good Luck.
Mr. Yun is the best teacher ever! Although if you are not ready to put time and dedication into the class then dont even waste your time. His classes are not the kind of classes where you go and the teacher talks about something irrelevant to the test or hw. He makes his own hw packets and is ALWAYS willing to help.
One of the many outstanding math instructors at El Camino. Great personality. Very inspiring and encouraging. Provides everything to fully conceptualize and understand math, should you put the time in--because he gives lots of homework for practice--you will no doubt get an A. I didn't, was close, but I had a complicated semester. Stick with Yun!
He truly cares about his students. He's always helpful and makes class fun. All one needs is commitment.
He is a great math instructor ever I've had because he explained how trick ways his methods n techniques it was pretty clear to understand that's why I got an A in his class I suggest u take it. U font have to buy book if u need it
BEST TEACHER AT EL CAMINO COLLEGE. His class is very difficult but if you go to office hours everyday and spend at least one full day studying for this class you will be fine. lectures extremely fast. Really enjoyed his class.
He was the best math instructor that I ever had. If you want to learn take him!!!!!!!!!
Great professor but I think only having him an hour a day made it worse. He felt the need to really rush through his sections and we didn't really learn that easy. We had to learn while learning other things and there wasn't really enough time to catch up. Tests were easy but it was easy to forget the material. Taking 73 in the summer...
professor Yun is the best math professor I've had so far. He is very clear with when presenting material. Just keep up with the HW
GOD OF MATH you will learn, lots of work but you will learn.
Mr. Yun is the best math teacher i ever had! he is so funny and cares about his students. there is a lot of homework but its not too bad as long as you dont fall behind. he tells you exactly whats going to be on the tests and theyre not too hard. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TAKING HIM!
Best math teacher, best teacher ever. I hated math until I took his class. He makes you want to learn and be good at math. He doesn't use the book and doesn't ask you to purchase one. Hands down one of the best profs at el co, I'd recommend him to anyone.
Professor Yun made Math 270 a great class. He was very prepared, had a good sense of humor and really made you appreciate math as an art form. He always tried to give us the big picture. It's hard to forget a topic in Yun's class. If you want to be a math major or just want to maximize your learning, take Professor Yun.
He is the best math teacher in the effing world. Opened up my eyes to the beauty of mathematics. Well organized, takes his time to explain the topics and makes math fun. Whatever he teaches in class is what you will see on the testes. No surprises. It was an honor to be his student.
not easy professor. I had to drop the class. he make his own questions, totally out of the book, and put them on exam. extremely conceptual. The chapters, other professors won't put on exam, he will put them.he wants everything graphically, if you know other methods, he would still ant you to learn his method of graphing everything. Not recommend
He is so awesome! The hard part are the labs and the homework, especially if you take it over summer. He takes a whole day before test day to review for the exam. The exam is literally that review, so try to get everything out of the way and study the review he gives you. If you do the homework, exams are 100 times easier because he gives easy Q's.
awesome professor if you show up to lecture you will learn!!!
Best Math Instructor Ever! Going back to school after 10 years was a challenge for me but teachers like him make learning math enjoyable. Lectures are crystal clear. Homework can be a little lengthy but he is very helpful. Great sense of humor and very inspirational. He takes time to review before each test. Outstanding:)
Helpful, dedicated and very passionate about math. Hw can be lengthy but he explains it very well. Good test reviews. No need to purchase text book. Thorough lectures but speedy pace. Guaranteed - you will learn! Nice sense of humor too.
Best intentions, but as a teacher he fails in my opinion. there is no structure to how he teaches and is completely unprepared for his lectures. Instead of preparing his lectures, it seems like he thinks about how he wants to teach the the material on the way to work. If he was doing a lecture for a company he'd be prepared, why not for us.
He is amazing! I would take him again but too bad that he wont teach 270 :(
I've had Mr. Yun twice as a teacher, and I've never had a more dedicated professor. He strives for his students and works really hard. Lectures were only supposed to be an hour a day, but with his office hours, he still lectured an entire class. Essentially, every day was a 3 hour lecture. What teacher could compare? I strongly recommend Paul Yun.
His lectures are amazing!!! Very clear and really tries to make it fun and interesting. Literally, to get an A in the class just do all the homework. Homework isn't even that bad just make sure to do one section a day.
Mr. Yuns teaching method is great. He not only wants to show you have to solve a problem but actually explains why. He is very clear and takes his time. He gives 4 exams plus a final and creates his own hw packets. No book is needed. His reviews are also very helpful. He cares about his student. Don't skip class because you;ll miss a ton if info
Amazing professor. Him showing the class "the big picture" really helped grasp the gist of 220 a lot more easily. This man is such a master of his subject matter that he even taught us how to divide and multiply by pikachu. 1010 would take again.
Shows up to class with the most unorganized lectures I have ever seen a professor give. He is a Berkeley, UCLA and Harvard grad so his priority isn't teaching. This means he shows up to class and throws some material at the class and assigns 100 problems of hw on material he didn't even lecture on. Be prepared to teach yourself most of the material
Yun is a good professor. He uses his own set of notes so the book is pretty much useless. You have to take good notes and study hard in his class in order to pass. if you like using the textbook then this is not the class for you. but he does help his students a lot outside of class and for that he is a great teacher.
Professor Yun is the best I've ever taken. He never moves on unless everyone gets it. He gives out reasonable homework that you should do to get full credit. He does reviews before and after tests which most professors do not do. I wish he had a 130 class I would have taken him for all my math classes.
Professor Yun is a gem! He is an excellent teacher and above all he's approachable and patient. These are very important qualities for teachers to have, so don't be afraid to ask him questions or to clarify certain topics, even if you are behind. He always does his best to help you. El Camino is very lucky to have him, he's the best.
He is the best math teacher I ever had in el camino. I am not good in math but he explain it so well and in different way that made it clear. His review test are like the actual test. Would recommend
Professor Yun is the best math teacher ever!!!! he really knows how to teach and explain the material. You dont need the expensive textbook because he makes his own lectures and homework. Do homework everyday!! He doesn't check it but he ends up collecting it for credit, your homework is whats on the exams! You take about 4 exams the semester.
Brilliant professor. He gives you the tools to succeed, but you have to do your part by putting in the time and effort. Take him if you want to learn from the best!
Professor Yun was honestly my favorite math teacher at El Camino. I took his class in 2012 and still remember how great he was. I didn't pay attention most of the year & was in danger of failing, but he came to me and was genuinely worried I would fail. I passed thanks to him and his amazing skills to make math easier. MAKE SURE YOU ATTEND CLASS!
honestly, I know a lot of people like him, and all of my friends love him that's why I was so excited to take him, however when the first week of class arrived I hated every second of his class. He's all over the place, he's in one section one second and next thing you know you've moved on to the next. beware if you hate graphing, he loves it!.
Best math professor ever, learned so much and he actually cares for the students in the class.
Prof. Yun really tries to push his students to do the most. In a math class, most teachers expect you to remember everything that they teach, but Professor Yun knows that it takes time and repetition to understand the various concepts. That being said, he reiterates what he's trying to explain multiple times over the course of the semester.
I took him for math80 and he's a great guy, super funny and takes the time to keep everyone motivated. He teaches the basics and is very repetitive to help you learn, but also encourages different paths of thinking. He hand writes all of the tests and homework questions so if you pay attention in class you will do fine
Typical asian math teacher, but hey he really knows how to teach and his lectures are fun to watch. He really cares about student progress and is always happy to answer questions and clarify material by comparing math concepts to pikachu or alice in wonderland which is kinda funny. No book either. Great teacher!
really loved this class , unfortunately I had to drop him due to the fact that I wasn't passing his exams. There is 4 tests in total & final, im not going to lie to you but this professor takes a lot of points off if you miss something small in the exam. he gives a lot of math problems but overall they are worth 10 points each 100 problems.
Seriously one of the best math teachers that I've ever had. He's very clear and thorough in explaining concepts.. Pretty funny, too. He tries to make class interesting and really does care about his students. Show up to class or you'll miss something important. Tests are easy af and there's homework everyday. DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND ASK QUESTIONS.
Great guy, excellent teacher, approachable, and ALWAYS willing to help a student. Do your homework and spend some time on the weekend to study before the test. The homework is more for you than for him. Homework is 8% and your exams are 92%. His tests are VERY fair. He's pretty lenient when it comes to grading as well.
I had a bad foundation in math, but I get most of the stuff he said. Hw is worth 10% , and he only collects on the test day (4 tests not including final). You don't even need to buy the book since he will give you the exercise designed by him. He covers most of the stuff that will be shown in the hw. Tests and final are easy if you just do the hw.
he is a good teacher.
Yun is a funny guy. He is an excellent educator. From his class, you know how to solve a problem, and then what the physical meaning of it is. Sometimes he gives me a life lesson. He's responsible and nice. As long as you are not lazy and want to learn, you'll get A. But I wasn't happy because he misunderstood me, maybe not for every student.
He's very passionate about math. His lectures are really fast, so it's hard to keep up with the class. He gives out a lot of homework, so you should start on it as soon as possible. His test problems are okay, but you can't make silly mistakes. He has office hours, but he mostly focuses on his harder math class (math 220/270).
Very easygoing and goes over the homework in class. tests are not multiple choice and you need to show your work
He's the worst. He speeds through everything. His tests are super hard, and he's a hard grader.
he makes sure you understand the material he's teaching and wastes no time.
I took Paul in the summer and considering this it was a tough fast class but the way he explains the subject is amazing! He is so smart and makes math bearable and possibly fun. Honestly, take him!
He really explains the why behind problems in a way that makes sense. He teaches different methods and lets the students chose which way makes more sense to themselves. I will definitely be taking his for all my calculus classes!!
Professor yun is one of the best math teachers in el camino. He makes it where if you don't understand the concept, he will put in a different prospective, just so you could learn it
Class can be difficult if you do not study the material. DO NOT put homework off till last possible moment. 4 homework packets (due on exam day), 4 exams, 1 final. You do not need the textbook, he will go over everything during his lectures. Tip: sit on left side of classroom (when he teaches he stands on the right side)
I don't even have to say anything about him. He's just the best.
One of the best teachers at El Camino I had been struggling with math and he helped me biuld a soid foundation. He wants you try your hardest. Very caring professor that understands college students have allot on their plate. Turn in all homework after every exam. He will drop your owest test score with your highest test score. No multiple choice
Prof Yun cares a lot about his students, and he genuinely wants to see you succeed. He seems very passionate about his job which made his lectures that much more interesting. He does talk pretty fast in class though, so if it takes you a bit to soak in information I'd suggest talking to him during his office hours which he holds every day.
He's a great professor, but he assigns ridiculous amounts of homework! Most of which he does not even cover in class. Also, he goes quite fast during lecture so try to keep up.
I love how he relates mathematics to real life. This professor actually cares about his students and makes math fun. Just to let you know, he does assign lots of book problems and also adds his own supplementary problems on top of that. Also, exams are completely made up by him. No extra credit, no make up work, so study hard and enjoy the ride.
Im taking him for calc1 during the summer. Yes, you read that right, summer. As a student who it took 3 retakes to pass trig, I'm amazed at how much I have learned under Prof Yun's wing. His ability to teach complex math topics is amazing. Exams are pretty much the lectures, and the homework you only have to do at least 10 problems. Recommended!!!
He's a great professor but be advised that he does lecture really, really fast. He also add his own supplementary material to the course and expects you to complete 150+ problems for homework (not exaggerating, if I could post the syllabus, I would). Also, exams are completely written by him and none are dropped. No extra credit, no quizzes.
He truly makes calculus fun! I really enjoyed that he related the topics to real life, explaining why we should know certain topics and how the are applied. He has a great sense of humor and is incredible intelligent. Ask him anything, he'll have an answer for you. I only wish I could take Calc II with him.
This is THE MAN to take math with! I promise you you will learn so much!!! He's passionate, kind, and caring. He will always encourage the class to do better and strive to become a better person and make some changes to this world. His class was tough but sooooo worth it!!!
I do not regret taking Calc 1 with him during the summer. I drove 35 miles to ELCO just to take his class. DEF PREPARED ME FOR CALC2
He is an amazing professor!!!!! it's an easy class and he makes all the material very easy to understand and you don't have to buy a book!!!!
Prof. Yun is AMAZING! One of, if not ,the greatest math professors here. Yes he will assign a lot of homework but it prepares you perfectly for tests. Definitely have learned a lot of things in this course by him. Very fair, organized, punctual with giving back grades! I don't know of anyone who wouldn't recommend him.
Hes wonderful, he communicates very well and hes easy to talk to. Hes in my top 3 favorite math teaches ever! Since kindergarten.
He knows his stuff and lectures well. The test qs are reasonable, but any mistakes are punished harshly. He doesn't teach from the book and often uses custom names for techniques, so it is hard to find supplemental material. He has daily office hours after class, but he considers it part of his class and may only show some material in office hours.
Hands down, the best math professor at ELCO! Reading the text book is not required as he provides excellent and detailed notes.
Best math teacher ever!! So enthusiastic and dedicated, extra office hours. Take him!!
Yun is a great professor. Homework and studying is a must. No textbook was required but I wouldve liked if he told us what sections from the textbook he was teaching. He makes the lectures humorous.
Best math teacher I ever took. He gave the class two large packets which consisted of everything we needed to learn through out the class season. No textbooks. Show up to class, learn how to solve the problems in class, and homework is easy to do. Maybe a few unusual problems but you'll find help on the internet. Great at explaining how to solve.
If you did well in HS I would choose a harder teacher. He's a good teacher and explains why things work the way they do in math, but near the end of the semester we slowed so much that coming to class felt like a waste of time. He's very enthusiastic and nice, and stays after class to help struggling students. If you need help w/math, he's the best
TAKE HIM TAKE HIM TAKE HIM!!!!!
A lot of work, but assigned hw thoroughly prepares you for his tests. Extremely fair tests. If you do most of the hw, the problems are almost easy. If you don't, the problems are miserable. I have never seen more fairer tests in my college career. Lectures are good. Always attend office hours as he goes over material. Overall great man.
His approach to a considerably difficult subject made me confident in my change to a math major. His lectures aren't dull, he makes jokes about "catching" the right integration method a la Pokémon. His tests are similar to lecture; only the numbers change. He gives a lot of homework, but gives full credit more than he should (whew). GoToOfficeHours
Professor Yuns dedication to his students is second to none. Hes readily accessible outside class for questions, and clearly knows his stuff backwards and forwards. I highly, *highly* recommend attending his office hours and participating in the in-class exercises on the board, as his lectures are very participation-heavy. Overall excellent!
Great teacher. Makes hard topics easy and fun. Tries to help everyone do well. Effort is required and a lot of homework is assigned but this makes tests so much easier.
Took this course over the winter. The class was overwhelming, however, professor Yun is a great instructor. He knows how to teach, and properly informs the class how to do things correctly. It was lots of homework, but he is very lenient on grading it. Test is easy if you understand class and homework material. Winter was a struggle.
Best Mathematics professor I have ever taken. I never worked so hard for a class before, that A was the most satisfying A I have ever gotten. He "gets down" in lecture. When you take him you will know what I mean. You must keep up in class and you must do all the HW. The HW is key to passing the class.
Just take his class. He is one of the best math professors I've taken. He keeps things clear, he gives you multiple ways to solve a problem. He teaches you why and how things are done. You become a mathematician when you take his class. He is an inspiration.
I love this professor! His lecture is easy to understand and he is always in a good mood. Also, he drops the lowest scores which help us by the end of the semester and he always invites us to visit him on his office hours. I wish every math professors were like him!!!!
One of the best professors I've ever had for a math class. Breaks down the complex concepts so it's very understandable. Lectures are funny and easy to follow. Spends lots of time reviewing and his office hours help a lot. He genuinely cares for his students.
Take this professor if you can. Lectures are very clear, he focuses on the concepts and simplifies things so that you can understand. He's very knowledgeable about applications. His passion for teaching and inspiring students shows during his lectures.
Paul Yun is by far the best professors I have ever taken!!! His homework relates to the exmans. The exams are VERY FAIR. You can go to office hours if you need help and everything you need to succeed is given to you, you just have to put in the work and not slack off. Create good habits including healthy diet and sleep schedule and you will be fine
Hes great at lecturing, and tests are straight from his notes (keep GOOD NOTES!). Always open for office hours and genuinely cares about you. Be prepared for a lot of homework (my hw added up to about 80 pgs when the semester was over)
Professor Yun is very nice but his lectures are extremely fast. I had to keep asking for help because I wasnt learning anything from his lectures. He also assigns way too much homework. Not good if you are a full time student like I am. I had to switch professors. When I did, some material I didnt get I easily got when I switched.
A lot of people recommended him to me but I had a hard time. As a math major, I couldnt understand his lectures and he went extremely fast. The amount of homework he assigns is unreasonable. I had to switch professors after week 3 because I didnt learn a thing since I walked in. Once I switched, I understood the material and got my hard earned A.
One of the easier 220 teachers because his exams are really similar to lecture problems and says he doesnt like tricking students on exams. Yun also assigns hw but he just checks if you have enough done to give you full credit- he doesnt check specific problems and the hw is 10% of overall grade. tests are 18%, and ther were 4 total including final
This post connected to previ Yun's final is cumulative that has a policy of replacin wost exam grade but NOT if your worst grade is better than final grade. He's goodhearted and polite to students but goes fast in lectures and personally is sometimes hard to understand because he's not exactly fluent in speaking. He also made many errors in lecture
If you need to take Math 80, do yourself a favor and take Paul Yun! His powerpoint slides tho! Show different methods in which you can approach a problem! His exams are the same concept so study them slides Fam! Also, we didnt need the book, his handouts are all you need! Lecture was lengthy, but his energy kept me motivated! TAKE HIM!!!!
Amazing teacher.. Cares for the students. Just do the homework, and understand the lecture and you will pass the course.
He's a really caring guy and his lectures are very clear. I took him online and you could download all his lecture notes and rewatch the lectures. He is very clear about what you need to study to pass his class and if you understand the problems in class, you'll be fine. I'll definitely take him again if I can.
Took this class over the winter and it is no joke. If you want to cram Calc 2 in 4-5 weeks (normally a 16-week class) expect to put in work. Assigns A LOT of hw. Workload is intense. Lectures are AMAZING and I learned so much in just 1 week. If you want to be better at calc take his class. If he were teaching in the fall/spring I would def take him
Took his class over the winter and calc in 4-5 weeks is no joke; we tackled 3-5 chapters a day but his lectures were clear and simple. Lots of hw for practice but exams are similar to the lecture notes. Yun's the best math teacher I've had, he knows his stuff, plus he's funny and caring. He will really prepare you for 220 and 270
Professor Yun is very inspirational and is honestly happy to see you succeed. He often gives advice and tips for your future studies and will share his many experiences with you. Go to his office hours to receive great practice test questions! If you do not get an A in his class, it is not his fault. Good luck guys!
While Prof Yun might be kind, the incredibly fast-paced nature of his lectures left me dumbfounded and uncertain of how to apply concepts. I could barely understand anything from his lectures in the first week. These tendencies are only worsened by the unreasonable amount of homework assigned daily taking up nearly ALL DAY. Not worth the pain.
Took him for both Math 220 and 270. There are 3 tests and a final that make up 90% of your grade so make sure you do well on them. He gives lots of homework to help prepare for the test and will really make you work for your grade, though it shows he cares about students and it's all worth it at the end when you understand the material.
Take his class, print his notes, and study with it! His explanations are excellent, and he inspires me so much. I am glad that I had a professor like him for a tough class like math 191. But don't forget that he makes his students print the lectures to make the class easier to follow. If you study using that, you will do great in his class!
Can be difficult to understand and doesnt treat you very nicely if youre falling behind
Awful Professor, insane amounts of homework and exams that have nothing from the notes or lectures. Your whole grade rides on the final too pretty much.
Makes it easy to do well in the class, but goes super sonic speed during lecture, so a deep understanding isn't always acquired. Assigns a lot of homework, and tells you what will be on exams. Work hard and you'll be fine.
Took Professor Yun for Math 190 over the 22' Summer. He is without a doubt one of the best math teachers I've ever had. He comes to class everyday with a positive attitude, and is very determined to teach with his in-depth lectures. Take this class, go to his office hours, study problems he gives in class, you will do great! 10/10 Would take again.
Great professor! He really loves teaching and gives good feedback. He cares a lot about his students and wants you to pass. His tests are heavily based on the lecture so do not miss a day!
Honestly one of the best professors I've ever had. He puts his all into every lecture and pushes you to succeed. His class is a lot of work, but it's worth it. He teaches 191, 220, and 270 so he helps you prepare for them. If you're looking to master the material, he's your professor. 10/10
Took him for 220 back in the fall. Decent prof but moves swiftly during lecture and expects his students to know most of the stuff by heart. Goes overboard with the amount of hw he assigns. He also goes way beyond class time to discuss the new material. No calculator is allowed during the test. Wouldnt recommend.
I took this professor way back in 2020 online, so it might not be considered very helpful, but he definitely has a "favoritism" issue. Showed the students' scores way too openly (although there was privacy using their student ID, not their names) and boasted about their perfect scores. It felt awful to us who weren't getting perfect 100 on exams.
He was great in my opinion. He was very caring and tries his best with students. I thought he was funny. My word of advice is to attend ALL lectures and make sure when you are doing your homework you understand what you are doing and reach out to the professor or tutoring when you need help. Also, study groups and office hours are helpful!
Amazing professor. 90% grade = tests and 10%= HW. Honestly, you learn the fastest in office hours, so go to them. Expect 4 tests, lowest grade is replaced with your final. Very relaxed and easy-going. Classes felt slow, but that is what 2.5 hours does. No calculator on tests, but questions are easy on purpose to not need them. Will take again.
I really enjoyed his class! He always comes to class in a positive mood and is very supportive of his students. He recommended buying the book but all of his lectures/notes/material were on canvas. The tests were a bit intimidating but he would give us the formulas which helped a lot. Only 4 tests but he drops the lowest if the final is higher!
Yun is a funny guy and a good teacher. My biggest complaint: he expects you to attend office hours. Office hours function like a review session but he gives LOTS of test hints. I could barely attend since it overlapped with other classes. Otherwise, he stays on top of material and keeps lectures entertaining. I would recommend.
Very funny professor! Show up to office hours or stay after class and he will help you out. My advice is doing the examples on the lecture notes 3-5 times until you understand it and you will do well.
Very passionate and funny guy, one of the more enjoyable classes I've taken. He generally explains things well, but he goes over topics fast and his lectures can be a bit scattered. Assigns a lot of homework but there are never any surprises on the exams and he wants his students to succeed. Would recommend.
Professor Yun is very kind, energetic, passionate and goes over lecture very fast. He engages with the class, and makes sure every student is noticed and is in check with his teaching throughout lectures. Though his class material is hard, he tries his best to make his students understand.
Professor Yun cares about math and his students, and it shows. I was dreading taking 220 over the summer, but Yun made things better. He does go over lectures pretty fast, his notes can be a little unorganized, and sometimes the homework can be a bit demanding. But other than that, as long as you put in the work, you should have a good time.
Others might enjoy his lectures, but not me. It just feels too chaotic and unorganized. Instead of using the class time to repeat unnecessary things, he should save time for going over practice problems IN CLASS (not during office hours after class that might overlap with your other classes). That's not "you can join if you want to".
Overall amazing professor and person in general. Professor Yun is incredibly knowledgeable and gives extremely engaging lectures. He can go kind of fast through the material so I highly recommend going to office hours. The hw can be intimidating but don't let it scare you. The exams are straight from office hours and lectures. Never any surprises.
Professor Yun is one of the kindest, funniest and most understanding professors I've taken at El Camino. I took his Winter 190 Class, but had to drop it two weeks in due to a change in my schedule The class was very condensed/fast-paced due to being a winter course. GO TO OFFICE HOURS FOR HELP!! He genuinely wants you to pass. Highly recommend!
Lovee Paul Yun. Lectures and notes are really easy understand and test review is basically exactly what's on the test. It's still a hard subject but for what it is, Yun made it much more bearable. I am his biggest fan and I miss him :(
Professor Yun is very fun and you rarely get bored in his lectures. His exams are similar to the class notes. Take this professor if you can - you won't regret it.
These ratings are very biased. A Whole lot of homework given in a short amount of time. Tests were complicated at times but it's mostly what he tells you, except studying 30+ hours will not help as he grades with trifling intent in mind. Hopefully you have a strong math background because you'll need it. Notes were terrible as well.
Taken over the summer, I think the tests were easier + graded more leniently bc of it. Tests are what he says will be out and usually taken from his lecture notes. A lot of HW problems assigned but you don't have to complete it all as he grades it almost instantly after you submit (I skip 2-3 per unit). Recommended if you're the self-study type!
If you're not gifted in math, don't take him. Notes were hard to understand. Took this class because of reviews saying he was lenient on grading but that was false. Points/grading on tests were done with no true pattern that one could predict. I was excited to take this class because of the raving reviews but it seems it's a bot creating them.
Professor Yun's MATH191 class is challenging but manageable. His engaging lectures and emphasis on office hours make the material more understandable. Using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can greatly aid in exam prep.
He's just so fun. These are the only lectures I feel engaged in. Tells you whats on exams so go to office hours if possible. He also will help you if you've been his student in his class and Yun has so many connections that it's worth just taking his class so he knows you.
I found his lectures to be helpful but erratic. We would bounce around from topic to topic, doing sections of chapters out of order. There are no tricks on his exams. Try to do the homework right after lecture to help the material stick. I recommend studying in-class notes and reviewing homework problems for his exams.
Not as good as people say!
I do not recommend taking this course if you're busy during the summer because it is intense & you cannot afford to slow down. However, he does give you all the resources you need to succeeed. Study the lecture examples--they reflect the exams. Homework requires way more skill than you need. Go to office hours!
He's smart but not a good teacher. Im not learning from his lectures. He goes on tangents mid problem and he goes over allotted class time EVERY single class. Goes out of order with content and blitzes through important ideas. 24/37 failed first exam. Harsh grader, he took off 3/4ths of my points on a problem I got correct due to my process.
I took him online for stats and first of all hes pretty funny so his lectures were cool. What I liked so much was that I could watch all his lectures on 1.5x speed cause they were just that simple to understand i mean unless it was harder, but it was fs easy. and hes very kind and barely any work to do he taught really well and i recommend the clas
Reading his lecture notes gave me a headache, moves super fast, tons of hw. He seemed like a nice guy and encouraging, just didn't love his teaching style. Gives option for zoom or lockdown browser exam.
Professor Yun is a amazing! I loved his Statistics class and as someone who isn't really great at math, he made the class easy to understand. Most of the exams he provided the formulas for which is great and also provided necessary tables like the Z-table chart. Majority of your grade depends on your test scores so be sure to study for them!
