She is a very fair teacher with a reasonable amount of assignments. This class is definitely do-able.
She does not always take attendance, but sometimes she does unexpectedly.
She is a good professor and her class feels like what it should to me. You shouldn't fail especially if you listen to the lecture and take notes of the things not on the slides. Between this and the lab you shouldn't fail if you study just a couple hours when needed. Overall though super nice woman and a good class.
Professor Anderson is an excellent woman. There is a lot of information to absorb, but she is a good professor to have your freshmen year. Good combination of challenge and ease.
She is always open to questions during class, and will randomly take attendance for bonus points. Everything on the tests is in the lectures, but everything on the homework is in the book.
So boring class and horrible teacher. She reads directly from the slides and puts you on the sleep mode. You've to teach yourself in her class. She is a nice lady but doesn't know more than what's on the slides. I doubt she has a degree in geology. Don't take her class.
Good class and good teacher. She is nice and kind.
The subject is a bore, but Professor Anderson really gets into it. She tries to make the class more interesting with jokes, especially those about Geology. The exams aren't terrible, but be sure to study the homework, as well as the study guides.
She is an awesome lady. Cool of fun facts and a very bright. Always go to class because she gives random bonus points for attendance. This class is great to take your freshman year to get acclimated to college. Study a few hours before the test and it shouldn't be hard to keep an A.
Grades come from Mastering Geology assignments and tests. Final is optional and can only improve your grade, not hurt it. Very nice lady, cares about her students. Makes jokes and tries to really communicate. Gives a few extra points if she calls your name for attendance. Find Quizlets for the test and you will be great.
Okay class the lectures were in my opinion boring. I can't quite remember if there were clicker points or not. The exams actually were not that bad thankfully. Hardest part was attempting to remember the rock names. If you can't do that study everything else and you should be okay.
Geology's not very interesting but she gives lots of extra credit, her lectures are fine and her tests are straightforward (but difficult). She gives study guides, but the weekly homework is a workout. It is not an easy A but if you actually put in some work you'll be fine.
Easy science credit. Dr. Anderson really cares about her students and wants you to do well. Weekly/bi-weekly assignments, along with tests. It's almost impossible to fail this class, unless you just don't try.
She is a great professor that has a real passion for helping students. The class covers a lot of material in not a lot of time. I wouldn't recommend taking this class if it is not required for your major. She does offer a lot of assignments that help balance out your test grades. I got a C on every test and ended up with a B overall.
OK teacher. Boooooooooooooring class! Too many assignments. Not recommended!
Nice lady but doesn't know how to teach geology. I slept a lot in her class, so boring lectures. Gives too many assignments. Exams are OK. Attendance isn't necessary.
Easy class but not interesting. Lots of homework assignments and exams.
She's a good professor, but sometimes she talks to students taking general GEOS like we know exactly what she's talking about. She gives a study guide for each exam and allows you to drop an exam. There's never a clear way to study for the exams though, because she covers 7-8 chapters per exam. It's a lot of material overall.
Had to take a science & was told this was easy and this class literally screwed my GPA over. Learned a few weeks in that it is pretty much pointless to go to class because I could honestly teach myself the material better than what was happening in class. The Lab is even WORSE if that's even possible. Every single homework assignment is online.
Study guides clearly outline what will be on exams. Lectures are great but not necessary to attend for understanding of material. If you complete study guide and Mastering, you will do well on exam.
I enjoyed this class a lot. I had the flu one week and she pushed back my homework deadlines for me. She shows a decent knowledge of Geology but she would sometimes get confused in class if someone asked her a difficult question. Gives you study guides for every test and the tests are not that hard. Very nice lady and easy class, I would recommend.
Great professor. Her lectures, while not mandatory are still great because of her power point slides. They are very comprehensive and study guides she provides are good Somewhat heavy homework, but she is very open to extending deadlines if students have major personal problems that interfere that week. Would highly recommend taking her class.
Easy class! She is a great teacher and the sweetest lady! Only one assignment a week which is online but is very easy! Study the study guides and do the homework and you will pass the exam. You do not have to go to class at all the entire year and you could still pass the class. She does take attendance once a week but its only worth one point!:)
class is so dry. she puts her slides online, but she may have in class assignments that you can't make up. if she gives the option to vote on blackboard exams or in class, go for blackboard.
OK class but not the best.
Paula is very nice, and keeps her class interesting. Attendance is "mandatory." Many students do not show up for lecture and I assume they still pass. If you show up to class, and study an hour or two before the test; you'll pass with flying colors.
My class started a groupme which was very helpful. It's hard not to pass, its easy getting a B, and just a little extra studying should easily get you an A. She gives out practice exams and drops your lowest test grade. She is a very nice person and a great professor -- would highly recommend taking her if it fits into your schedule.
3.9 gpa student. This class, and the lab, are ridiculously hard. There is literally hundreds of different terms and concepts to know for every exam. Many terms are very similar and only have slight differences. 7 chapters on test 2, covers over 100 txtbook pages, over 300 PowerPoint slides, and homework assignments. Crazy amount of information
Tests are awful! Each test covers an extreme about of information making them impossible to study for. Attendance is mandatory but class is not worth going to. All she does is read off PowerPoints which are posted blackboard. For just a general geology class it is extremely difficult.
Though passing with an A wouldn't be the hardest thing in the world, this class is way harder than it should be. Fortunately, attendance isn't a heavy weight on your grade because her lectures are like watching paint dry. Homework nearly every week, offers some extra credit opportunities and drops lowest test grade.
Professor Anderson was incredibly boring and her lectures were terrible. Her test "reviews" were just what the chapters outlined, and the example tests did not help either. She would have application questions on her tests that she mentioned ONE time in lecture. I did not enjoy this class, but had an amazing Lab experience with dif prof. Don't take
Such a horrible teacher although the class was so easy and she allowed open notes on all exams. I did not need to study for any her exams. Still not recommended if you want to learn.
Not too bad. Easy class.
I love professor Anderson. Geology is not an easy class and you cover a lot of information, but she does a good job explaining things in time for homework due dates. Theres an assignment a week that is pretty easy if you take notes. Attendance isnt required. I take notes from the slides on BB and then go to class and pay attention. Not an easy A.
Good class for engineering students.
Dr. Anderson is the best. I like going to her class.
You need to show up if you want to pass. Super nice and sweet, but not very interesting when it comes to teaching. I still don't understand her method of teaching, as she just read from the PowerPoint, which was a copy from the textbook. If you can remember terms well and good at memorizing from the textbook you are fine.
Paula Anderson... where do I start... First of all, being a student in Dr. Andersons class has easily been the most enchanting experience that I have been blessed to have been apart of. As I write this, I am having a hard time holding back the tears as I recount all the memories I have made in this class. Paula for life.
Absolutely amazing professor! Exams are open resource, and rarely any quizzes. Homework is also pretty easy if you read the chapters. Definitely recommend for intro geology
Great teacher, had an online option this year but not sure if it was because of COVID. Most if not all of the class is online, and tests are open note!
This course covers a TON of material so buckle up. Despite challenging concepts, Prof Anderson is a gem. She is truly passionate about what she teaches, accessible, and incredibly knowledgable. Tests were open resource which was a life saver. Completing the Mastering Geology assignments on time was the best way to study and cement information.
Average teacher and boring class. Don't take!
She is a wonderful human being and super accessible! She's always willing to help in any way possible. Her notes slides are not the full length of her notes. She is super lecture-heavy, so go to class and watch the recorded lectures!
Would not recommend for an easy science credit. The tests are open note/resource but they're still so difficult. Goes over a lot of material and it can get confusing.
Attendance is bonus points. Gives out many extra credit points. Lots of information. Open note test.
Professor Anderson is sweet, but her material is extremely difficult to understand due to her teaching style. Her exams may be open note, but she changes the answers from what's online, which makes her test extremely difficult. You cover at least 7 chapters a test, and there's so much info it's impossible to remember. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Paula Anderson is the sweetest professor I have ever had, however the lectures can be difficult to understand. The tests are all open note, but the questions on the exam are not in the powerpoints nor the internet. The exams cover 7 chapters which is too much information to remember as well.
Don't understand the negative reviews on Paula. She is sweet and knows the course material very well. This class is so easy to pass if you just do your homework. There is also multiple opportunities for extra credit.
Interesting class, the professor obviously cares a lot about the subject matter and her students.
Open resource, internet tests online but professor written questions, often difficult to find answers for unless you attend lecture (which I did, and it helped). Other professors I heard have easier tests but Paula makes up for this with several bonus point opportunities. Tip: take notes over assignments for tests. Kind and witty professor too.
This class is fine for someone wanting to get a science credit. Attendance is not required, you basically just have to worry about a lot of online homework each week, which is mainly busy work. Her tests are completely open resource, you can take them anywhere. Overall I hated Geology, but Paula did as good as anyone could.
By far the best teacher ive had at Uark. There may be "a lot" of homework but its just a weekly assignment that you can finish in 30 min. I was on the verge of an A in the class and she allowed me to turn in an assignment that I hadnt done to boost my grade to an A
Grades come from tests and Mastering Geology hw. I didn't go to class but when I did she had attendance extra credit. Her lectures are a little all over the place for me, she was kinda hard to follow. Tests online- no lockdown, open resource. A lot of extra credit opportunities. Very friendly and knowledgable
Loved this professor! everything is online open note and she is super sweet. the homework will just take up about a hour of your time each week. Exams are timed and kinda hard but it is easy to do well in this class, I could of have a A if I was more on top of things lol.
I only went to her lectures the first month, and my brain couldn't, so I would review on my own time. She is a great and caring person. The exams are worded very weirdly, so it was very confusing, and I would accidentally miss a word and get the answer wrong. Just watch the Drill videos, and you will be fine.
Anderson is pretty good for intro physical geology, most students stop going to class, I went only like once a week, but she's super into what she's teaching and cares about the students. If you have any problems she's totally down to help you the best she can
Lecture for every single class, took random attendance points on random days throughout the semester. Course grade determined mainly on 4 open-note tests throughout semester. Tests are not the easiest even if they are open note. Lots of mini hw graded for accuracy only worth 7 points a piece. Would not recommend for anyone trying to get an easy A.
She is very passionate about geology and teaches it well, she uses recent events as examples when covering content. Reading the textbook before lectures will really help you understand the material, the lectures are basically overviews of the textbook. Assignments are online and multiple-choice, but they're long and hard so don't procrastinate.
I loved having Paula as a professor. She shows much enthusiasm through each of her lectures. Overall, the class isn't too difficult. There are tons of homework assignments, but they are short and easy. The tests make up a big portion of the grade, and there is not a lot of time to complete them so be prepared to study a lot.
For the most part the class is super easy! Doing mastering assignments and a couple extra assignments are the only thing graded besides the tests. The tests are hard even though they are open note! Does take attendance randomly but its for extra credit. Overall have enjoyed the class its just the tests that can make or break you!
This class was a lot harder than I expected! Not harder than Chem 1 or Phys 1 but get ready to work! Eagerly answers questions outside of class. Adds to Pearson's material with her own personal trips, experiences, and current events. This professor is so incredibly passionate about her material & loves what she does. Very enjoyable class.
Anderson's class is not an easy A class as you would think it would be. To actually get the material you have to pay attention to what she is saying in class, it is not directly on the slides. Tests are worth a good portion of your grade, and she makes them more difficult then they need to be. She does give out extra credit for attendance.
You can get an A not going to lecture but it is very hard. Paula is a great teacher, but this class is very boring if you just need a natural science. Not an easy A, im sure if you go to class it would be easier though. Take advantage of every extra credit opp. and use the final to get the grade you want.
Paula Anderson is an amazing person and a great teacher. However, her tests are unreasonably hard. This is not a blow-off class, so if you put forth a decent amount of effort you should succeed. Extra credit is offered for attending class. I attended lectures and I barely made an A. This class isn't impossible, just hit the ground running.
the tests are hard
I took the Geology Lecture with her. Lectures aren't that important to attend but you do get extra credit for attendance. Her tests are online and you don't have to go to class for them. Most of the homework can be found on Quizlet/Chegg etc. The homework is just lengthy and frequent but not difficult.
TAKE THIS CLASS, the lab kind of sucks but this is the best class i have ever taken. the homework is easy and answers are accessible if you google them. professor anderson is so nice and attendance is not mandatory you just get extra credit. all the tests are online and take them at home with no lockdown browser or proctor
She is a great professor. The topic is not super interesting to me probably because I just needed a science credit. The lecture part of this class is easy and also exams. Attendance is not mandatory but given extra credit if you show up. the lab part can be difficult but if you need a science credit I recommend this course.
Pretty cool professor, with lots of extra credit opportunities. Not a super fun or interesting class and I'm not a fan of the labs, but they're not the worst thing in the world. The work is kinda hard to learn but open book and everything on quizlets.
Lecture is just her reading slides with very basic, surface level information, then the questions on the exam are way more complex, so by studying the slides you do not get the information you need to do well on the test. All the exams are open resource, but the answers cannot be found in any of the class resources (slides, textbook, etc.).
She is very sweet but the lectures are extremely boring. The homework is lengthy. There are 3 tests and they are all open note with no browser lockdown. The tests are rather hard to take because the questions are complex and the notes do not help much, plus you only get 50 minutes to answer the 50 questions. The lab is also boring but very easy.
Shes very nice but lectures are so boring, and the test are hard because she doesn't really give us much guidance since they are open note but if you look a question up you won't find the answer because she words it to where you cant find it.
Very good professor, tests are open note.
Class was so very boring. Extra credit for attendance. The HW was going to be my final reason it's so long and tricky. The tests are stressful bc of time restraints. She is really sweet but I just couldn't understand the topics.
The material is pretty difficult to understand and it is quite boring. The homework assignments are also hard and very tedious to do and there is A LOT of them. The saving graces for this class is that attendance is extra credit and there is a lot of extra credit. The test are also all open note including the final.
Easy class. Dont go to class but do the attendance questions. All exams are open note, open internet but they are timed. Would recommend
She was a good professor, but her class was hard. She writes all of her tests and is hard to look up the answers. The homework is straightforward, questions, so and they are easy to get ahead on. If you get ahead at the beginning, it will make your life so much easier. She is a teacher who cares about her students and she is passionate.
It's not a super hard class; it's just annoying at times. If you want an A, it's not too awful. Make sure to write down bonus questions from in-class to a Google doc or something; they're always on the exam, and they're easy points if you put them in a doc since exams are open notes, internet, etc. Overall not a super tricky class.
She is a very nice lady but this class is awful. You aren't required to learn a drop of geology, as you are required to and even suggested to cheat on tests and homework, as the material doesn't cover it all. It's a terrible double edged sword. I know some had success with their sources, but mine always gave me some incorrect answers.
Attendance is not mandatory but she does give out random extra credit for showing up! All of the assignments and test are taken online and open notes. She gives out lots of extra credit because some of the test are difficult. I would definitely recommend taking her for this class!
Attendence is not mandatory but sometimes randomly taken for extra credit. This class was pretty hard for a geology class. All test are open note but difficult. I reccomend taking her!
Attendance isn't mandatory but you can get extra credit for going. Homework every week but everything is open note so it's pretty easy. Pretty chill class tbh
Dr. Anderson is readily available and responds to emails within 24 hours. She even gives out her personal number if an emergency arises and we need to get a hold of her quickly. She gives out lost of bonus opportunities so don't take it for granted it can be the difference in a letter grade!
Very chill and will work with you if you ask for help. I only got a C due to my lack of care and discipline at the time but she worked with me and motivated me. Highly recommend
Attendance isnt required, but every one in a while there is a bonus attendance question you get in class. Tests are all open note at home, and theres not too much homework.
I think i only showed up to this class twice. The exams aren't on lock down and are easy to do.
Paula is super sweet and her lectures were great, I stopped going about halfway through the semester but still ended with an A. I feel bad for missing her class she is a sweet lady. There are bonus points in the lectures and everything is open note.
Such a sweet woman. She loves what she teaches and really cares about her students. Takes attendance randomly, but you can get an A without going. All assignments and exams are open note, open browser, and can be taken anywhere at anytime in the day. Take her if you need a geology credit, she is wonderful!
Such a kind and caring woman, even gave out her personal phone number for emergencies! Lectures are slightly boring and random attendance is taken, but extremely chill class. Lots of assignments but they're easy to complete as long as you pay attention to due dates. Easy to get a good grade without studying at all!
She assigned a pretty good amount of homework, but if you pay attention in class, it's not hard at all. Attendance is optional at times, but still go because it gives you extra credit points. The tests are word-for-word from what she teaches you. Go to class, listen, do your homework, and you'll get an A.
While Paula is a very amazing person, very sweet, this course is VERY in depth and a little to much for people not majoring in a science field. I only needed this course for a general science credit and I wish someone would have warned me. Attendance is mandatory.
If you need a science credit, take Paula Anderson. Very kind lady and the class is easy to keep up with.
