Hardest teacher I have ever had and no help given at all. Wouldn't recommend to anyone.
Paula Burch is very smart and really knows her stuff about anatomy, however I don't think she's a good teacher. Information is basically thrown at you and you're required to know every detail in two weeks. Practicals are very hard and exams follow the week after. This is VERY accelerated and tutoring is DEFINITE if you want to even PASS
During lecture she is always rushing through, never answers our questions because she "has to get through this" which isn't actually helping us understand the material. I asked her for some study tips, and she didn't give me much of anything. I would not reccommend taking her, she makes something I love (anatomy) a nightmare.
Yes, this class is extremely difficult and she makes you earn your grade 100%, but this is college and anatomy isn't supposed to be easy. If you rely on lectures only, don't take her, she goes pretty fast and does not go into a ton of detail, but if you read the material on your own and study you'll be fine. She's super nice. GET MASTERING.
This class will be something you have to work for, as with any class in the medical field. Professor Burch is a lovely woman, she inspires you to try your best. No, she doesn't curve your grade but if you pay attention, attend the open study labs, and read up on material you're not clear on you will do well. I recommend her for anatomy I love her!
Professor Burch uses PowerPoints to teach during lecture, which she posts on Mastering A&P. She also provides outlines on Mastering, which she loosely follows. They were helpful at the beginning, but she tends to skip around a lot. Exams and practicals are difficult. You must go to the tutoring center if you care to pass them. Effort is essential.
A&P is not an easy class, period. Prof. Burch will make you work for your grade. She's a tough teacher but a very kind person. Extra credit doesn't exist. If you are prepared to work hard, dedicate a lot of time to a class, and not expect your hand held the whole time, she's your professor.
A&P is an extremely difficult class in general but she just makes it a lot harder than it already is. It just doesn't feel like she wants her students to succeed. You are not going to find an "easy"professor for this class because the course itself is complex and incredibly demanding. Unfortunately, it hasn't been a pleasant learning experience.
She's a great professor if you're willing to put the work in. You can't walk into this class and expect to receive a good great without trying. Studying for the practicals weeks in advance in the tutoring center is a must. Lecture tests can be difficult if you don't read the textbook chapters. She is very willing to help with material.
There are 5 lecture tests and 3 lab exams, including finals. Notes should be taken every class and should include more than just what her PowerPoint says, which means writing down her further explanations. If you are struggling with the material, go to her office hours, and she will do her best to help you better understand. STUDY a bit each day!
Very difficult teacher. Does not know how to explain the material to students. Is very knowledgeable but makes the lecture exams very hard. Must study more than just her notes she gives. Read the chapter before lectures and use the resource center for help. Lab is straight forward and easy. Her lecture exams are very hard. Goes off topic many times
I have really enjoyed having Prof Burch. She is very nice and always willing to help you. A and P is hard but she makes it understandable.
AP is a very hard class and Prof. Burch makes learning the material easier, she is always in her office if you need extra help. She does a wonderful job of explaining the information with case studies that make you apply your knowledge. The lecture exams are hard, but she grades fair and will give partial credit for spelling mistakes on lab exams
I really enjoyed having Prof Burch for Anatomy 2. The subject is hard but she does everything she can to make it so you can understand it. She always reminds us that she has office hours if we need more help. She even had a white board installed in her office to use when we came to her office for extra help. I would highly recommend her.
Took Professor Burch for A&P I during the spring 2015 semester. She is an amazing teacher. Very knowledgeable and extremely kind. She makes herself available for students who need help. With that being said A&P is not for those who don't put forth the effort. She provides you with the tools to succeed but you have to put towards the time.
I took Professor Burch for A&P I so I decided to stick with her for A&P II. Both lecture exams and lab exams were very demanding. Had to put in hours of studying to get a good grade. She is extremely knowledgeable and offers help and advice when needed. One of the nicest professors I've ever had the pleasure of meeting. Hard tests but worth it.
This is a hard class, but Prof. Burch is a really good teacher. She is always in her office and ready to help if you need it. I would recommend her as a professor if you want to learn a lot in this class.
I loved Professor Burch and I have the most respect for her. She really cares about her students and wants us all to succeed. Like everyone knows, A&P I and II are incredibly difficult classes and you will need to put in the time in and out of class. She gives you the strong foundation you will need to succeed in your future schooling/career.
Pay attention in class and take notes on what she says. I studied only from my hand written notes. I did not read whole chapters. I only referenced the text when I wanted further clarification than what was given in class or didn't understand. She will provide one on one help if requested. There are no tricks. She is straight forward.
A&PI was the most challenging course I've ever taken, so the fact that I chose Professor Burch to take A&PII really says it all. Since so much of A&PI is memorized, she presents material so you actually retain the information. If asked, she was ALWAYS happy to help. Her #1 goal was confidence that her students were prepared to enter medical field.
Professor Burch is a great professor. Like any Anatomy & Physiology class, you need to put in a lot of effort in order to pass. Professor Burch is a tough professor, but if you put in the effort and try your best, you will understand the material. She is willing to help, and truly wants to see her students pass.
Professor Burch is an amazing teacher for A&P 2. She is extremely knowledgeable about the subject and really has a passion for this class. But, be prepared to WORK! This is a tough class-you will only do well if you put in 100% time and effort, and ask questions! Be prepared to come to every class , and read the chapters in the textbook.
A&P 2 is a very hard class, you need to read the book and study (live in the learning center). She knows her stuff!! You might be lost at times but read the book and she is willing to help and has even done a little study session after class. She goes out of order so it gets a little confusing at times but she is a great teacher.
She is a nice lady, but as a teacher I don't like her. During lectures, she hits you with so much information and is not clear on what is most important. During one class, she went off on a tangent talking about spiders and then rushed to explain glomerular filtration. She just goes way too fast and you end up teaching yourself most of the info.
I took prof Burch for A&P II and it was one of the best classes I have ever taken. I appreciate that she doesnt give any homework. That being said, you have to really do well on the tests because there isnt much else. It is a hard class and can take up most of your time, but for the amount of material you learn, it is worth it. I recommend her.
Very smart woman, but not really meant to be teaching. She presents the appropriate information, but gets off topic a lot and does not make it clear what to focus on. She isn't helpful either. I tried asking her for help studying and she acted annoyed. Tests are crazy hard and extra credit doesn't exist. Would not recommend her to anyone.
Test expectations do not coincide with teaching level.
Very unorganized, takes weeks to get grades back. Test procedures are made very stressful. Way too pedantic.
After reading all these reviews. I am comforted to know that it isnt just me who thinks this person is not suited for teaching.
A&P 2 is very difficult and requires A LOT of time and preparation to do well. Professor Burch's lecture notes were very helpful, and she was always willing to help. You absolutely have to write down more than what is just on the slides. I barely looked at the textbook unless it was for figures/diagrams. I made flashcards after every lecture.
the worst!
Take any other professor for AP 2!! Professor Burch has hogged all the AP 2 classes at NCC so I suggest taking the class at LCCC. Burch has ruined the department..
I really dont understand all these terrible reviews. She is an amazing teacher and tells you exactly what to focus on for tests. She even throws in additional study sessions to really help you understand the material. The course is the hardest I've taken but that's just the material not the professor.
She knows her stuff but goes way too fast for most students. be prepared to write. or else print the slidesneed to take way more notes than whats on the powerpoint. she rushes through a lot and tests are brutal if you dont know the material. intense studying necessary. often unclear w test material. gave mini quizzes at least 1/week. show up!
The course is difficult and a lot of information to begin with. She is well educated and knowledgeable but goes too fast. Gives quizzes very frequently and if you dont show up you wont pass
I don't necessarily like her teaching style, but I respect it. A&P is not an easy subject, so unless you're serious about entering the medical field, this class is not for you. She is very intelligent and while she may go through notes fast, there are opportunities to see her outside of class for help. Put in the effort to do well. Period.
All positive reviews are written by Paula Burch herself. No one in their right mind thinks Paula Burch is a good teacher.
Burch is the worst.
C ouldnt care less about instilling knowledge upon her students. U ltimately driven by her ego and her desire to become Dean of health sciences. N ot interested in seeing her students succeed. T akes pleasure in inflicting stress upon her students and having 70% of her class withdrawal.
Has a knack for making the simplest of concepts convoluted and impossible to understand. Not a natural teacher by any stretch of the imagination.
Upon going through her previous ratings, Im appalled. Of course this class is extremely hard, the human body is extensive, and intricate. she has to go fast, does anyone actually understand how much you have to learn? This is just the tip of the iceberg. You get exactly what you put into this class. She knows her stuff. Id take her 10/10.
Professor Burch wrote the review below this one. She writes her own positive reviews. I retook AP2 with another Professor who could actually teach; it was like night and day. Burch is not suited for the position she holds.
I took her for AP2 and i wanted to drop the class the second day. It is a tough course so she has to be tough on the students. As long as you put the work towards the class you should be fine. I audio recorded all the lectures and would listen to them later and write my notes off from them.
Horrible teaching very nice lady but cannot teach she isnt clear she makes thing more difficult than what they have to be instead of actually helping her students I used to get so frustrated in her class because she speeds through power point not all slides are clear she also deducts unnecessary points of students exam good luck take someone else
Professor Burch is tough but so worth it. I feel way more prepared for nursing school now. Burch will always answer any questions and clarify anything about the lecture or lab. The lecture tests and lab practicals are pretty straightforward. There isnt any homework so you need to do well on the exams.
Her lectures are extremely heavy. She goes into the most deepest details for everything. She does not give no extra anything, no extensions on hw. She is very strict, with due dates w everything. You have to listen to the power points and basically teach yourself. She takes forever with answering emails sometimes. Her tests are ridiculously long.
Professor Burch is always available to help you and to explain things. She really cares for her students. We got extensions on the hw. She makes sure you are well prepared (especially for nursing students) and truly understand the material. Utilize the online tutoring and do not be afraid to ask her for help. Put the time in and you will do well!
Love her. She puts tons of time into her students and wants to help you learn. She uses YouTube, PowerPoints, book, models, diagrams and handouts she makes herself. She is an excellent professor and wants her students to learn.
Prof. Burch is OUTSTANDING. The material is hard. There is a lot of it but that is not her fault it's the nature of the class. She is available to help after hours. She puts in tons of extra effort that others don't and truly cares. Show up, put in the work. If you don't do well maybe consider a different career path. Healthcare is hard.
Though the class is extensive as you would expect, there was no need for it to be this difficult. With the pandemic still happening this class was extra challenging because there was so much content to watch and review. Tests are very hard, and based on lectures. Pay very close attention to detail. Even with max effort I got a C.
If you don't do well from the start there's no chance to make it up. Not much work other than exams contribute to your grade.
Professor Burch is a tough teacher however you put in the work you will learn so much she prepares you so well for your future if youre going into the medical field. Shes amazing at what she does and she cares about all of her students. She is truly one of the best teachers I have taken at NCC
Im not going to lie this was a very hard course. But the professor is really sweet and wants you to succeed. Could the course be easier? Yes. But going into the healthcare field I feel more confident in my abilities and understanding. I also loved PB, she is great and helps you out when you dont understand information!
I spent 30 plus hours studying a week for this class alone. Follow her instruction and put the hours in. I listened to her lectures over and over. I also transcribed each lecture pretty much word for word, then rewrote my notes at least once. It a hard class but if you study the right way then you should be good. Look at ALL material she provides.
This class is very difficult and time-consuming, but you'll pass if you put in the work and study. Burch is a great professor and knows what she is talking about, learned so much about the human body and I enjoyed the class.
Long lecture videos, rarely used textbook, a quiz every week, an assignment weekly, and about 5 exams. You absolutely have to study because you will need all of this learning content for her exams and in the future, especially if you're becoming a nurse. This class is HARD, so put the time in to study. Paula knows her stuff!
I am an operating room nurse who deals with anatomy every day. I took both anatomy 1 and 2 with her, I got a C in both of them. I would never want to go back and change it the information she taught has been so valuable in dealing with real-life scenarios.
PB is a very respectful and caring professor. The 2022 fall semester felt a bit all over the place but she still truly wants to see her students do well. All of the work in this class requires HOURS of studying. This is not an easy class and she does not hand out info that is on the tests bc she wants you to fully understand the material.
Anatomy and Physiology is a challenging subject on its own. I did not find Paula to make the material more challenging, but rather she challenged us to actually learn the material rather than only memorize it. Lecture was a little more difficult than lab because there's many pieces of information to know. Material was accessible online. 10/10.
As expected this class was difficult! the lab portion is easy, lecture part is where the hard work needs to be put in. She is very kind and wants you to succeed in class, the videos she puts up are also very helpful. My advice would be to pay attention to the yellow review questions at the end of each chapter, with effort you'll pass her class.
Amazing professor! If you put the work in and study at least 1 week before exams you will pass. She provided review sheets which also contributed to my success. Her lectures are great, explains everything in detail, and she is very nice. 10/10 would take her again
Took anat 2 with her before getting into the ultrasound program. Anat and phys is a challenging subject no matter what. She is always willing to help in her office hours, and pushes students because application of the material is important for allied health majors. If you're upset about your performance in her class it's not due to her abilities.
Professor Burch is the only professor I've had so far who wants people to understand what they're learning, rather than just memorizing the content. Yes, it's a hard course, but it prepares you for future classes that will be even more difficult. She may seem intimidating at first, but she is an amazing professor!
Prof Burch is good (and a little opinionated). The lectures are info heavy, but she typically ends early without long/multiple breaks. A&P II is difficult, not her . Read the material (book is free online), write your notes, and utilize the study guides she gives. Lecture exams are faithful to the guide. She is happy to help if you ask her!
Professor Burch is a great professor. She takes time to make sure you understand and helps you to know what you are learning. Pay attention to lectures, ask questions about what you are learning in lecture you will do better if you take time during and after each lecture to ask about content you need help to understand. Great class.
She is extremely knowledgeable which makes her a tough grader. Her passion for health science is inspirational. Would take her again.
Fall 2024. Very monotonous teaching. I had all As before this class. She showed up late and started class at different times without communicating to us. No assignments other than extremely specific exams. Almost impossible to study for. No study guides. I emailed her for help multiple times. No help. Very hard for me to succeed in this class.
Follow the lectures and you'll be fine. Great teacher.
very very incompetent, study guides do not match. Horrible teaching style.
Paulais not a good professor at all. doesnt know how to teach. Dont even try going to her for help because she will dismiss you and say learn to do it her way. Her tests have an ufair time limit, and doesnt release study guides till day before the test. During tests she hovers over students and gives them anxiety. dont ever take her save yourself.
Dont take her you will struggle and learn nothing.
She does not have any regard for her students, all she does is talk but it does not make sense. Tests are vague.
She doesnt know how to teach, waste of time going to her lectures i would leave and have to teach everything to myself at home. Dont take her
Doesn't understand the concept of teaching, cant respond to emails or help you.
Very inconsideret, wasnt helpful at all, and didnt know how to teacg. her lectures were so long and had so much information yet none was on the test.
Gives important details last minute, has no remorse, very strict makeup policy.
went to her for help on a test and all she said was "try diffrent study method" was absolultley no help and didnt want to try something new for the sake of students
I dont know if she knows being a hard graded doesnt mean you shouldnt teach correct. She has a ego and does not have knowledge on basic quesiton.
lectures are boring cannot teach and keep attention.
Has no clue what she is doing, so many times during lecture she would explain things wrong and would have to restart. Didnt learn a single thing.
I withdrew from her class because she was so rude, went to her for help and she dismissed me and said just look in brightspice. she is the worst
she writes her own reviews, dont belive anything and DONT TAKE HER TRUST ME
Whoever wrote the past like 5 reviews on the 20th has got to be the same person writing them. It's very strange… you may dislike the teacher but pretending to be multiple different students is unnecessary.
Any student's concern was immediately shut down and dismissed. Rushes and crams lectures. You will end up reteaching yourself everything. Repeat questions on lab exams, if you are even 1 letter off they are all wrong. Save your time, money and sanity. She is not interested in helping you succeed and she made the course 100x harder than it had to be
