Picky!!Goes by her opinion when grading. She is very cold to students and not very helpful at all. I would stay far away form her!!!!!

All i have to say is RUNNNN!!! Run as fast as you can away from her, a difficult to deal with, unhelpful and not very felxible teacher. She does not seem to care about her students at all.

She is cold and unhelpful to students, and she is very condescending. She grades with a huge bias, and you have to repeat exactly what she says if you want an A. After 2 solid A's and awesome classes with Berndt, I got a B and never wanted to take English again in her class. Horrid.

She is the worst teacher I've ever had. she is unclear, thinks she knows EVERYTHING, is bias on grading, doesn't realize that everyone has their own writing style, is EXTREMELY untrusting, and has basically been teaching WAY TO LONG! she needs to retire from teaching, she doesn't teach, she dictates

Think twice. I had a 4.0 until her class. I ended up taking it a second time. TAKE MAX SMITH!!!! She is **** and assumes that everbody under 35 are fellons like her kids and she will hang you for it. I got a D because she of stupid attendance policy, when I didn't miss more than one class!!! worthless waste of time, she is garbage!!!!!

Well I won't get personal however I HIGHLY recommend to RUN the other way if you see her even in the hallway, she is a ticking time bomb ready to blow at any random point. She is the definition of unprofessional. If you looked up the word TACKY you'd find Paula Garland in the example column. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS IF YOU VALUE YOUR EDUCATION.

She honestly is on of the laziest teachers ive had ever. She does not care about her students, would never go out of her way to help and she doesnt teach us anything. All we do for 2 hours and 50 minutes is try to have a discussion about the reading and she makes weird faces if your answers were acceptable or not. I hope i can make it through!

I took this class online, because I really enjoyed English Comp in high school (had A's). Boy was I wrong. The grading system is ridiculous- feels like you're writing 3 pages worth of work for 5 points. In the end I barely received a C. I have to retake the class to get a better grade- Just with a different teacher.

The class I'd very hard. She is very strict about every single detail. Was not helpful in anyway. I unloaded a document before the due date, and asked if I could resubmit an updated version an hour later, she said no and I received a zero for that unit.

Worst teacher I've ever encountered. She is quick to give you a zero on make-or-break assignments. I had to spend 47 hours with a professional writing coach to get a 92% A on an essay... This is a low level college writing course, we should not be expected to be professional writers like she does. Miserable teacher

The WORST teacher I have ever had in my entire life. Registered for the class a week late and missed a due date for part of a paper so I received a zero for the unit. When I tried to explain she said "That's not my problem." I wasn't aware that my education is not the teachers problem. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS

Paula is harsh. I wrote an essay that was given a 0/50 because I did not include a few problems from the "invention work". I offered to fix the mistake and requested partial credit since I did 90% of the work. She refused several times. This took my grade from an A to an F for the whole class. Do not take this teacher!!!

I made it to the third unit in an all online course with an B, but then missed one deadlines of the pre-workinvention work by a few hours and then emailed her. She told me that would result in a 0 for the final draft as well, essentially 14 my grade and that would result with an F for the class. "No exceptions." Like thank you, new appt, NO WIFI.

Very strict with grading, if you mess up a small detail you will not pass. Expects the impossible with papers and pre-writing work, no sympathy or help is given. If you have a question regarding anything, forget it. She does not answer emails. My advice is to avoid this Professor, if you care at all about your GPA or graduating in general.

Paula is an incredibly tough grader. She completely tears apart your papers and takes off points for alleged "errors" that weren't mentioned in the rubric. Run, run very fast and very far away from this teacher. I 100% regret taking her class. I wish that I knew about this website before enrolling in her godawful class. Absolutely horrid.

One of the worst Teachers I have ever had, She has taken Shakespeare and drained away all of the interest I ever had in the topic in the first place.

This would've been one of the easier class I've take if, you know, she actually followed her own rubrics. The toughest grader I've ever seen, she seems to be making up her rules as she goes along. Save yourself the headache, do not take her classes

Terrible teacher. Has a very unrealistic expectation of the level of understanding that a student will have about Shakespeare's works for the way that she teaches them. her level of "guidance" is throwing a book at you and telling you to have it read by the next class session where she will rant about how complex the text was.

Worst professor I have ever had! She gave me a terrible grade on an assignment. When I asked why, it took three separate emails back and forth for her to tell me, and she gave me the worst answer. She was not specific enough in the instructions. I can't read her mind! If you want something done exactly how you want it or you fail them, SAY IT.

This professor is absolutely the worst teacher I have had in my three years of college experience. She is not understanding and she is very inconsistent with her grading. She makes excuses for not getting papers back on time, but really it is because she is behind in her own work. Avoid this one like the plague.

I took Paula's freshman comp class as an online course and I regretted it instantly. She is the hardest and worse grader I have ever had. Even if you do the assignment exactly as she says, you will be lucky to get a B. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES. She is ruthless, and trying to communicate with her has no impact whatsoever.

Her grading system is insane, and it's definitely not preparing me for anything but nights full of anxiety. You miss one thing, she fails you on the entire paper. You spend a lot more time preparing for the paper than the actual paper. Her grading times are insane too, the due times for the paper are really inconvenient and I'm pulling allnighters

This teacher is the worst. Do not take her!!!! She is the hardest grader I've ever come across. If you write the best essay in the world, you would still get a C. Her communication sucks and she will not listen to anything you say. You would be lucky to get a C in this class if you do everything right.

Paula is an extremely harsh grader do not expect to get an A in this class. Late work is not allowed, which is fair and she does give you ample time to complete the work. This semester she talked a lot about the amount of students doing bad and encouraged them to drop out instead of trying to help them which I thought was really disheartening.

She is very strict. My draft that I later edited did not meet minimum requirements and I was not able to keep up and do the peer review so i sacrificed that grade to finish the final draft, big mistake, got a zero had to withdraw. She is very specific about was she wants done, I did not find it easy to find where she put for it on D2L however

NEVER TAKE HER ONLINE FRESHMAN COMPOSITION CLASS!!!!! Has NO clear instructions for her assignments. Literally the hardest grader I have ever had. Wouldn't recommend her class to my worst enemy.

Extremely hard grader. If you do not turn in an assignment she wont even look at the final draft. Would not recommend this class to anyone.

Paula is terrible. At the beginning of the year there were 25 students enrolled in her class and by the end of the year there were 6. I worked very hard but she is cranky and all-in-all a bad professor. Take freshman composition with any other professor

This is the worst professor I have ever had. Please do yourself a favor and NEVER take her class.

Very hard grader! Her tone is very rude! Never teaches you anything and if you ask a question she makes you feel ,worse then you already feel for having to ask a question. Only thing I learned from this class was to always check the ratings for my professors

Taking Paula Garland was the worst mistake of my life.

This professor doesn't give you credit for a paper if you do not do the homework or even if it isn't done correctly. She does not give clear instructions and when you clarify by asking she doesn't give you adequate feedback and is rude about it. You are expected to do a paper without much work up and she doesn't give you enough guideline.

I am a great paper writer, so I thought I would be very successful going into this class... I could not have been more wrong. I dont know what I did wrong because she does not give feedback. Taking this class with her was a huge mistake.

Paula is an impossible grader. She does not give feedback so there is no way to improve on your writing throughout the semester. She answers emails within a reasonable amount of time but never actually answers your question. She just replies by rudely saying either read the instructions (which do not actually give directions) or the textbook.

Paula's class was unnecessarily hard. She does not have clear instructions and grades extremely tough.

She is not helpful at all. Every time you write a paper and miss a quotation mark, she gives you an F for it. She also tells you to drop or withdraw from her class and in a mean way too.

Awful. She changed a deadline last minute without warning, and then dropped me from the class when I missed it. I wasn't shocked to see that she has a 2.1 rating here. Honestly I thought it'd be lower. When I emailed, her responses were short and rude, and I did not feel that she cared about me or my education whatsoever.

Make sure you read everything to the last detail if you miss anything she gives you an F on everything and if you email her to ask questions you will be met with rude comments and no help

I didn't put quotation marks around a statistic that I found from the CDC, but I stated that it was from the CDC. I wasn't trying to pretend like it was from me. I got an F on that paper, even though that was the only thing wrong. I didn't do half of an assignment because I was confused, I got an F on that unit's paper. Do not take her course.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Paula is very cold and condescending. She failed all my papers and I worked hard on them. Zero feedback when asked how I can improve, I even got a grammarly subscription. Theres 4 papers and 12 feed back papers. I like how clear she is on her syllabus but thats it.

Rude, vague, and seeming to not care, this person is someone you do NOT want as your instructor. When I asked, "how can I...," or, "what about...," her immediate response was a rude comment and a, "read the rubric and pay attention." Wow! I never considered thinking about doing that! Thank you Einstein, I already did! Poor responses, bad grading.

This Professor can be best described as the worst mistake of my entire life, I'll have to live with this regret till the end of my days. I hate her bland feedback and the time it takes to get "it". Please, for the love of God, even if you don't believe, do not take this course with her, please

Worst teacher I have ever had. She failed a paper that I spent over 10 hours on because I didn't source a definition properly even though I had the website in my works cited. She doesn't give feedback on your rough drafts and instead has your peers do it. I had an A and because of the paper I ended up getting a C. Needed a B for my degree.

Most professors are strict, but not as strict as her. For me, her schedule stuff never made sense to me because she put all of the content of one unit out, and that made me lose a lot of time because I misread one little detail. She was very condescending in her emails and would refuse to help me.

I do not recommend. She takes points off for reasons but will not state them. Is so condecending in her emails. She was very rude the one and only time I did email. Will not accept late work, which I understand, she put the date wrong into D2L and never fixed it, never took credit for it. The work assigned is so confusing. Basically no direction.

She is a very strict grader. Her information is all over the place so when I got confused and missed one question, she failed my entire paper and wouldn't let me fix it. I often emailed her to see if my work was up to the standards and she was no help. Overall very difficult to work with and would not recommend.

She literally squatted on her desk and dropped a deuce in the middle of class in front of everyone. Told us if we told anyone she would fail our papers.

You rely on peer review for rough drafts, which did nothing, and then get a d on papers. Her feedback made absolutely no sense. Absolutely no late work was accepted, paired that with the fact that if you miss one assignment per unit you fail the entire unit. Felt like i was being set up for failure. I failed the class for being late a single time.

This professor has been the worst teacher I have ever had. Never take her class because she is way too picky. If I make a mistake in my writing she gives an automatic 0% on final grades. I put a lot of effort into my essay and she completely ignored it because one of her criteria was not met. I work very hard and this is now going to ruin my GPA.

Whatever you do, do NOT take this professor. The grading is super unclear and she does not grade your rough drafts, she has your peers do it. The workload is super confusing. There is no direction unless you hunt for it. She is such a tough grader. Save yourself the headache and choose someone else. Waste of time in my opinion.

She docks points for small things within the essays you write but doesn't tell you how to fix them. I didn't have a single conversation with her throughout the class. There was no indication that she cared about my grade or how to help me get better for following assignments. Do yourself a favor and choose a different professor.

save yourself and pick a different professor. I had a super similar experience to others on here. I would've appreciated feedback on work and there was no communication unless I emailed her, so limited relationship. It also felt like she didn't care if I succeeded or not at all.

Expect to be stressed out. I love English, always have, its always been my favorite class. Not anymore, this class is so complicated for no reason, her grading is really picky, and you don't actually learn anything.

Do not take classes with this professor she is incredibly rude, inconsistent, extremely poor at creating course material. Will fail you for the power trip if you don't stroke her ego.
