I dreaded taking history, but she is so enthusiastic...it ended up being one of my favorite classes!! She tells you what to study from the notes and you have to keep a journal. AAAAA++++++++ teacher!

Very fun teacher. Clear with class work and gives good reviews for tests. Made me want to be a history major. Tells many weird facts during her lectures.

Awesome teacher. Just take notes in class and study them for the test. Read required texts and be prepared for id's and essays on the exam. Lectures are always entertaining and we watch a lot of movies.

Dr. Hinton is one of those rare prof. who actually cares about her students. I've had 5 courses & I loved them all (201/202, 435 (twice)& 490. She is very intelligient and cares about the subjects she teaches, which makes the class awesome for everyone.

I'm not a history person, but I really enjoyed this class. She makes things interesting and doesn't bore you in lecture. For tests, she gives a list of ID's and you better know them.

Great teacher. She cares for the students and she talks to you like a person. She keeps it real. Take her and avoid Lanningham if possible.

Hinton is an excellent teacher. She is very easy to understand as well as very helpful in and outside of class.

She is best professors I have ever had the priviliage of learning under. She is willing to bend over backwards to help any of her students if she sees they are trying in her class. She met with me countless times to complete notes and prepare for tests.

She is wonderfully warm and ever entertaining (the documentaries she selects alone are worth taking her class), and would perhaps be a natural at narrating one of said documentaries in her future. Indeed, I will keep watching PBS for her.

One of the best classes that I've ever had in my college experience. She is one of the best teachers that I have ever had. Teachs more on concepts than facts. On test you can be within 10 yrs of a date and she gives it to you.

Quite possibly the best teacher I have ever had. I have always hated history, but when I had this class, I hated when I missed it. If you take a history course, try to take Hinton. She makes history interesting and thought provoking.

I am a Sec Ed History major. I love history and Dr. Hinton makes it even more interesting. I would recommend her for anyone. I wish she taught every subject because I would sure take her.

Boring class (to me) but she was nice. Her tests are different from others I've taken, because they are all essays..no multiple choice, t/f, anything....just essays. thast the only pt. i hated about that class

Great teacher! Study your notes because her tests are all IDs and essays. Not at all unreasonable and very interesting. Good about answering questions, too!

Interesting class, she shows interesting documentaries. Her tests are fair but she sometimes grades quite harsh. The reading isnt't really required if you take all the notes.

She is a wonderful teacher!! She is very concerned and is always helpful any way she can be. She clearly explains herself in class and tries to make it understandable. She is also very easy to contact and writes back A.S.A.P. I would highly recommend taking this course.

GRAND... Just grand! She is a wonderful woman, makes things clear and verrrrry interesting! She likes to crack up like the rest of us. One thing, dont forget to turn off your phones and please stay awake. Her tests are all essay and come straight from the notes. I had MUCH care for the class!

FANTASTIC! i hated history and i do again now with my current teacher, but she makes it fun, easy and the exams come straight from the notes. she goes over what may be in the exams before them and is the most helpful teacher who genuinly cares about you and your work

Dr. Hinton is awesome. She is always willing to help in any way she can. She makes history interesting. On tests, if she asks for a date she will accept any year within ten years of the right answer. It's easy but you will need to study for her exams. They're not bad though!

Dr. Hinton is great. Lectures are clear and interesting. She grades very harshly, though, so you have to work really hard to do well, especially on the essays.

Dr. Hinton is, hands down, the best teacher I've ever had. Funny, easy on the eyes, and a blast in class, you laugh, you learn, you enjoy your time with her. Dr. Hinton's classes are so interresting. I have taken 3 classes taught by her so far, and i have enjoyed all of them. She really has a way of making history(which i used to hate) interresting.

She is a wonderful teacher and person. She is laid back, and will give you exactly what you need to know on the tests, even though its always alot more than you need to keep it fair to the whole tests purpose. She works in a very easy note format.

Good teacher. Her exams are all essay form, and she tells you pretty much what will be on it. Easy class to get at least a B in.

She is a good teacher. If you get a chance you need to take her. I loved her class. The exams were all essy and identifing things in a short essay type form. They were easy though if you study. You do take a whole lot of notes in there every day though.

Dr. Hinton is just awesome!! If you take her, you will not be sorry. I REALLY did not want to take US history and it turned out that her class was one of my favorites. She makes everything so interesting.

I don't know how she is in non honors courses, but she was awesome. I got a C, and am still a little confused about how, but then i remembered I did kinda slack off the first half of the semester. Go to class, write ex essays before exams, to prepare. You'll be fine and lord knows an a is easy enough. Very interesting teacher and well worth it.

Ms. Hinton is a really great teacher! She loves history and makes the plight of people in history very personal. She keeps it interesting. Her tests are essay, but she's very clear on what you need to know. She's also very helpful if you need anything.

Very interesting class. Great teacher. Ms. Hinton really tries to make History interesting to everyone. 3 Essay tests in this class, and 4 "journals" which can be turned in early, proofread, and revised as many times as possible to get max points, Easy C and an A/B is very obtainable with studying.

Dr. Hinton is like the Mary Poppins of the history dept. She knows how to present her material & somehow, I dont know how, she makes it interesting---as interesting as jumping through chalk covered paintings & finding fun in an every day, normal experience. Who knows, maybe she blew in from an east wind in front of Derryberry to make history fun!

God looked down at his creation, Dr. Hinton, and said, "she is wonderful, just as I said she should be." This little exercise in creative writing is 100% true. If you want to love History, go with her.

Amazing Teacher! She's the first history teacher I've ever had who focuses on WHAT happened rather than memorizing dates. Very clear, thorough, and comprehensive. She obviously loves what she's doing (very knowledgable) and what you to love it too. Take her if you can.

Dr. Hinton is funny, charismatic, laid-back & unconventional. She has a way of letting her students feel at ease in her classes. She taught me to relax! She was very helpful. She often skipped between key subjects, making many references. For someone with ADD, she is enjoying to hear. She has teaching down to a fine art and never has her back turned for long.

Excellent professor. She displays a high level of enthusiasm and communicates on the level of the student. Her subject matter is always interesting (Ghosts, Myths, and Legends!), she is very helpful, she's hilarious at times, and loves teaching. Attendance is taken and there is a lot of reading. My class had some annoying students, but oh well.

Gave us essay tests. Grades them generously and gave us a list of questions beforehand. Assigned a few papers over simple readings. Really cool teacher. Wish I was a history major so I could have her again.

I took the graduate level Ghosts, Myths, and Legends. Great class, lots of reading! She does quizes over the books. She's easy going, helpful, and fun. At times, she can be difficult to follow while taking notes, but she is more than happy to answer any questions and present more clarity. She won an award this semester! That should say something!

Hinton is such a wonderful teacher! I learned so much my first semester taking her, and I'm taking her again next semester for 2020. Her class isn't necessarily easy, but you will learn so much in her class. She is willing to help as much as possible. Take her for History!

She is my favorite teacher by far! Super helpful & understanding! She makes the class fun! If you attend class, study, & communicate with her u won't have a hard time in her class. She barely uses the text book, she only suggests what to read before the test. Also gives out study guides, which is extremely helpful. If u get the chance to TAKE HER!

She is so funny and sarcastic. I love it. By far the best history teacher, I believe. She takes attendance and barely uses the textbook. You have 4 exams that are not cumulative. The final is just another exam. Also, journal assignments. Do not put those until last minute.. Not hard at all! I highly recommend her.

I LOVE Dr. Hinton! She is so easy to talk to and very approachable! She genuinely cares about you and your success in the class. All of the tests are essay, so you have to know your stuff. I am taking her again next semester too!

Awesome class from a professor who is passionate about her history! She does a great job with great detail and carisma. I would highly recommend her to anyone who takes history 2010-20. Very helpful, offers extra credit, and has three test over a certain number of chapters. No cumalative tests but they are essay form. Passionate history teacher!!!!

This woman is amazing. You can tell she really loves history and she tells the most interesting stories not mentioned in textbooks, etc. Exams are essay so make sure you take really good notes and study; she does hand out study guides. She's really funny and I plan on taking her again next semester. My favorite professor!

Dr. Hinton is one of the best professors I have ever had. She makes lecture so interesting that you actually feel as if you are walking through the stories yourself. She is a tough grader, and you need to memorize quite a bit of information for her tests, but her enthusiasm for history makes the tough tests worth it. I'm taking her again!

Dr. Hinton is an amazing professor. I had her for History 1010 and 1020. Her exams are essays but if you pay attention (which you totally will) you can pass them easily. Her lectures are detailed and easy to follow. She definitely knows her stuff! I wish I could take her classes some more!

Dr. Hinton is an amazing teacher and she really knows her stuff. She does a great job keeping lectures interesting. The class I take is 1hr 20min long but some days it feels super short because I'm so into the lecture. Shes really understanding if you miss class because of personal reasons. Some extra credit, highly recommend this professor.

SHe is a tough grader, but its only because she knows students are capable of doing the work. She tells you everything you need to know for the test, and gives a study guide. journals are easy.

SHE WAS THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAD ALL SEMESTER. She is so caring and thoughtful. If you get into a pickle, shes always willing to help. I got sick on they day of the final and the pure soul let me take my final the following Saturday. Her lectures are not bad, and I actually learned a lot from her!!! Take her, you will not regret it.

She is AMAZING. Go to class, take notes and memorize them and it's an easy A for American History I and II.

The best professor I've had so far. The level of detail in how she explains things really clicks with you. She goes over how complex issues were, ex. the Civil War. If you love history, take her. If you don't, take her anyway. Graded on 3 tests and 2 journals. Buy cat/dog food for 20 points EC. *She never used the American Horizons book just fyi.

This is the second class I've had Dr. Hinton for, and she loves to assign books to read. We have a total of 9 books in this class, due usually every week/every other week, then short quiz to prove you read it, easy if you did, decent if you used sparknotes. Really like her as a professor and a person, just way too much reading.

3 Exams that are kind of tough because they are hand written and she can be very picky. 2 journals that should be easy 90+ grades however they do require some time to complete. She is super nice, will help you out in any way possible and offers 20 points extra credit for buying cat food. Overall if you show up and try, B, if you're a good writer, A

I have never had a history class and been so interested. I looked forward to the class every day I went because the lectures were juts so interesting. Your grades in the class are 2 journal assignments (each one is about 8 individual journals that are about a page each) and 3 tests (no cumulative final). This class was nothing but a joy to take.

Her class, at least the summer section, was all self-paced, with only a due date at the end. If you don't have the discipline to make yourself work throughout the semester, maybe stay away from it. I ended up doing all my work in the last 2 weeks. Watch the videos, maybe listen to the lectures, and you should easily pass, more than likely with an A

Very easy class, would recommend for hist 2010 and hist 2020, she really knows her stuff and the lectures are super interesting. You have 3 test and 2 journals, all worth 100 points, no comprehensive final. Very interesting and easy class, great teacher.

There are not enough good things to say about Dr. Hinton. She is such a sweet soul! Very warm and nice. She makes everyone feel comfortable in her class. Gives awesome feedback that helps you learn from mistakes. Is clear about her requirements, and expects you to follow them. Tennessee Tech is very lucky to have her. By far, my favorite teacher!

Take her!!! Dr. Hinton is such a great professor. Yes, the class is lecture heavy but I found that she wasn't incredibly boring like some. Lots of quizzes that are based on readings but are open book - really easy if you try and boost grade. Best thing about her is she is so caring - especially while I was sick with COVID!

Professor Hinton is a really nice teacher. She typically responds to emails and calls fairly quickly and works with her students. She is very heavy on the lectures (upwards of 3hrs per chapter) but her quizzes and test are usually based on the readings. I would definitely take her again, she truly cares for each of her students.

I took Dr. Hinton's class online, but I absolutely love listening to her lectures. She's very easy to listen to and makes history very engaging and interesting to learn about. She's pretty chill, which makes communication really nice and easy. I would definitely recommend taking her class!

Ms. Hintons class is super easy if you show up to class and take notes. She has three exams and two journal assignments that she gives plenty of notice about beforehand! I took this class Fall 2021. She went into detail on her lectures, and her exams expect you to as well. She assigned three large groups of short-response assignments, but each group was due at the end of each month. There was a good amount of reading involved, but, in my opinion, the class was just fine.

there's only 5 things you're graded on but she gives extra credit at the end of the semester. good lectures, kinda boring. tests and journals are all written work.

Good overall course. Must be able to make inferences, even if it is literally no where in the texts. She definitely expects you to quote things as if they are in the texts, but they wont be. Many papers, but not too long. Her lectures feel very long. Seems to grade on how she feels, not on what it does or doesn't say. Im not a hist major

One of my favorite classes of all time!

She is a wonderful woman, but she grades harshly. She is looking for specific details, and if you don't include them she WILL take off points. The lectures are long and that's basically the whole class. There are 3 exams, 1 quiz, and 2 journal assignments. She did offer extra credit though.

Professor Hinton's HIST2020 class has engaging lectures and manageable assignments. The open-book quizzes and grading support are helpful. Leveraging resources like Unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can make the class experience smoother.

Overall, she was an excellent teacher! She was hard and made you learn by reading a ton. Yet, I walked away with a lot of understanding and knowledge, important details that made me love history more than I ever have before. 5 Stars goes to Professor Hinton for her amazing videos and great humor.
