She is awesome. Explains things really well. But if you miss a lecture, you're screwed
cute teacher.. if u're slackers take her... her test is not hard at all... you can cheat. good luck slackers
She is a great teacher. She is not very easy as the last student stated. She does give you a challenge but she is always more than willing to help. If a student finds her class too easy than maybe the student is taking the wrong level of chemistry.
Great teacher. very thorough. details everything in lecture. extremely helpful outside of class if you make the effort to see her. shes got a cute voice, easy to listen to.
Awesome teacher! She makes everything so easy to understand, and everything is very well organized and clear when written on the board. Dresses cute. Very helpful and understanding. The way all professors should be!
Not that easy. It seems like over the semesters, she has changed her tests to make it more challenging. If you mess up on her final, you mess up your grade, since it's worth 40% of your final grade. At the end, she seem sorta scattered;better than others
She is an Excellent teacher in Chemistry. I like her class so much, and I learned a lot while I was taking class with her. If you are majoring in Chem, and you have better take class with her. You won't regret to take this class with her.
I only had Paula for lab but she is sooo easy to understand compared to the other chem teachers I have experienced. I wished I'd taken lecture with her.
I only had lab with her but loved it. she made lab enjoyable if someone can do that. take her!! I wish she was teaching chem. 201 in fall 04. she is very clear and easy to understand. takes a hard subject and makes it easier.
i had lab with her, should have taken lecture too. very easy to understand. if u're a chem major, must take her class. she makes chemistry easier to understand
She is a great chem prof. She is pretty easy if you make the effort to ask questions in class and out of class. She even moved our test to a different date on the students request. She's awesome and very down to earth! She isn't snobby like some professors can be..
She is the best science teacher I ever had. She explains everything thoroughly and clearly. She is extremely helpful and understanding. I advice that you take both lecture and lab with her because you will understand a lot.
She's awesome!! I'm a complete idiot when it comes to chem and she helped me every step of the way. Yes its challenging but if you put in the effort she'll help you out! Really sweet and fun to talk to outside of class!
She is a great teacher. Her lectures are very informative and her tests are like the hw. She gives a review session the day before the test doing the hw from the packet, which really helps if you study it. I recommend her to everyone.
She teaches very good, lectures are easy to understand. You learn everything fast. No HW is graded but if you do the suggested HW you'll do great on the tests.

Ill keep it short, Good but Budzynski is better
Very helpful professor. Not always easy, but if you do your work, it kind of is easy.
Cute little teacher ^^, paula was helpful and kind, trys and scares you away at the start, but Iam the king of Chem, and she had no idea. Was pretty easy, repeat of 152.
Professor Gustin was very fun, kind & helpful. The in-class & homework problems & sample exams are all excellent examples of the questions on the exams. They are not super easy but they aren't impossible, either. You must study but if you do, you should do fine. She is slow responding to e-mail, so go see her in her office. Bring her chocolate!
Super friendly & helpful. Overall, she a good teacher but can be "vague" at times. Read the books and assign reading before coming to class & it be FINE!
I would absolutely recommend taking Chem with this profesor. I feel that she does want her students to learn the material and pass the class. On some topics her explanations made it so much easier to understand the material then just reading the book. As for the class itself, you must study and practice the homework!!
Fantastic teacher. She's got a great attitude and makes class interesting. You're paying attention the whole time and low and behold - she lectures with clarity! Now that's a rare occurence. Tests are reasonable, you do need to study. The first half of this class is a breeze (Chem 152 stuff) THEN it gets tricky so be ready for that. I got an A.
She is a very great professor. Makes class fun and interesting. She is very clear and tests are average. Available for help often. AND very fashionable. I highly recommend taking her!
I was lucky to have Paula for organic chem. She is the BEST& NICEST sience teacher you can find on the planet! she is very knowledgable. her lectuers cover everything you need to know about the subject. She dresses very fashinable and has a cute voice! makes the lecture intresting and fun. She is very friendly and approachable so don't be afraid to
She's a good teacher and keeps lectures interesting. However, she takes forever to return tests. I thought the class was easy, got an A! Barely used the textbook, tests are based on lecture only so take good notes!
Excellent prof. She goes fast but explains everything well. I came out understanding material that I didn't get at all in 100. Assignments arent mandatory but help A LOT. Quizzes help gauge progress. Takes a while to get back to you, even with email.
Prof. Gustin brings enthusiasm and positive energy to lecture. She is available during office hours and will take the time to help you understand the material. Doing the homework helps a great deal. The first half of class is easier than the second.
Highly recommended , she is the best chemistry teacher at mesa.take her
Dr, Gustin was one of the most helpful teachers I have had in my college career. Gustin would wait for me to show up to her office hrs like clock work. Paula gives practices exam that really help you prepare for the test and especially the final. The best advice is do all of the practice problems she suggests and study the exams.
Paula is a great chemistry teacher. Homework is not graded, but if you do the homework you'll get an A. She uses biochemical examples to illustrate chapter ideas instead of some boring example about say a nail rusting.
She's a funny teacher..she keeps you engaged in lecture. She is EXTREMELY helpful, just ask when you need help. She's pretty bad about giving you answers for the practice tests and even getting your own tests/homework back in a timely manner.
ok teacher. I got an A. However she could spend a lot more time thinking about her students then worrying how she looks that day. You wont get test back for a while, she was too busy going to the mall during the weekend.
I absolutely love this professor. She's extremely gifted at teaching. The final was difficulty and I'm sure she curved it. I got an A in the class.
I like Dr. Paula. She's engaging, easy to follow during lecture and has interesting examples to give. She makes sure we know what to spend our time on and what won't be covered on tests and quizzes. And she's cute!
SHE IS ONE OF THE BEST CHEMISTRY TEACHERS IN MESA COLLESE.TRY TO BE AT HER LECTURE. IT HELPS A LOT TO UNDERSTAND THE MATERIAL.MOST OF HER LECTURE IS BASED ON WHAT SHE IS GOING TO PUT ON THE TEST AND GOES OVER IT OVER AND OVER AGAIN. VERY VERY APPROACHABLE.NEVER TRICKS U ON THE TEST.DO HER SAMPLE EXAMS AND HOMEWORK(WHICH ARE NOT GRADED)/TAKE HER!!!
she is an awesome teacher. she made me fall in love with science. do the homework even though its not mandatory and you will get an A. gives study guides and practice test which help a lot. take her if you can, you wont regret it!
Really nice prof. Attendance not required, but I suggest it because this can be a really difficult class. You will need to study a LOT, but if you know the suggested homework, and examples from book, you'll do well on tests. She really cares about all her students though, and goes out of her way to help everyone. I hope she comes back.
I didn't have to take the final. Tests are important since your grade is based off only tests and quizes. Study the practice problems she does in class cause that's what you will see on the test.
Shes the BEST chemistry teacher there is within the san diego community college. Shes so caring and when she teaches, its really easy to understand compared to other chemisty teacher.
Took her class over the summer. The material was given fast over a one month time period but her handouts and examples are better to study from than the textbook. She is always available and happy to provide time outside of class to teach the material. She applies more of the biological concepts to the class which makes the class more interesting,
One of the best Chemistry teachers on campus. Was really helpful and clear in her explanations. I recommend her if you're willing to work hard but to be rewarded for your work. Her tests are not a surprise and most of the problems have already been introduced in some variation. Take her!
She is A.W.E.S.O.M.E.!! I was a bit scared to take chemistry but she explains everything so easy and relates things to things in reality.! She's so great that i kinda want to minor in chemistry now. the best part is she truly is a college professor because she doesn't care about your attendance. -but not recommend to miss any class. you'll LOVE her
I've taken her for Chem 200 and 201 and I completely recommend her! She gives out practice exams that are very similar to the actual exams. She's so helpful, understanding, and clear. No mandatory hw! You take quizzes and exams and the final is optional. Isn't that great?!
I had no interest in Chemistry, but Paula made every concept easy to understand. She is one of the best professors I have ever had, take her!
I took Paula in 1999 when she was pregnant with her first baby. What a cute preggo. Explained the topics clearly, had a positive attitude, and was fair in her quizzes and tests. I got a C in her class but that was all my fault.. she's a very good instructor.
Great Lecturer, very clear and to the point. Tests you on what she covers in lecture. Do her practice tests and the homework in the packet and you will do fine. Just be sure to read tests carefully as she likes to make small adjustments that can be tricky if you are rushing.
She is amazing as a professor
Took her 5wk summer class and it required some studying. Good curve scale and she doesnt try to trick you on tests. her tests are a little harder than some other chem200 professors but she gives you formula sheets unlike other professors. So its your preference which you like more.
Best chemistry teacher at mesa for chemistry, split between Fremland though. Tests are straight forward, and she tells you what you need to know through her practice tests. Lectures are very helpful and relevant to class. Makes a boring subject fun. Great lab professor. TAKE HER!!! Wants students to succeed. Relates chemistry to majors.
Summer 8 wk class. Had her for both lecture and lab. VERY straightforward lecture/quizzes/exams. You will know exactly what you need to study. Lab is relaxed, which allows you to absorb more material. Taker her for both lecture and lab if you can.
Took her for Chem100 lab. Really nice professor; loves Chemistry. She can get a little picky when it comes to grading labs, but that's part of the game, so suck it up. Lab manual can be a bit confusing at times, so make sure you read it before you walk in. That way, you won't get stuck for the entire period. Recommend her for lab.
Paula has nice hand writing so its easy to follow and understand. She drops a test, so yes you can drop the final, there are like 3 quizzes they are super easy. HW not mandatory, but helpful. In lab you have to do all the labs, drops the lowest, 2-3 lab tests. Must write discussion for labs. she isn't as easy toto, but explains things really clear,
Had her for lecture and lab. I was in another teacher's lab and I was getting C's/B's. In her lab I got A's. She let's you make up like 2 labs, and the final exam is optional. She's an easy grader on lab reports as long as you pad them with background theory. Never miss a lab or class. The book can be confusing and lab is very difficult to make up.
Great Professor, Makes a daunting subject seem almost easy. Gives you the needed formulas on exams. Also easy on the eyes!!
Professor Gustin is honestly one of the best professors i've had.not only is she caring and easy going, butshe is also a very clear lecturer. although, the material is a bit tough to digest, gustin breaks it down & makes the class that much more interestng.TAKE HER because you won't regret it.
Paula is a great teacher who goes out of her way to help you understand the information. Her quizzes and tests are thorough but she is explicit about what is on them. She grades well and awards partial credit for correct work even if the answer is wrong (huge help).
Dr. Paula Gustin is a Great Professor. The overall feeling of the class atmosphere was chill and relax. There is little to homework, but its on the challenging side. There are 4 quizzes and 2 can be dropped, and 4 test and one can be dropped. She is defiantly for the students. Overall, she's amazing I would take her again.
she is very nice and funny! shes a very easy grader as long as you try you will get a decent grade. She made chem fun I would highly recommend you take her :D
She's a great professor. She is very knowledgeable, and she is able to pass that knowledge on to her students. Her tests and quizzes are not very difficult, and she's a generous grader.
you should take her classes!
Paula is a phenomenal instructor. She is both a kind and humble person and is brilliant in her field. She is a veteran instructor and explains things very well. I would absolutely take her again. Great great great. Thank you so much Paula!
She is one of the best chemistry teachers at Mesa and it is to your advantage if you take her because 1. she tells you exactly what to expect 2. she doesn't test you on non-essential concepts 3. she is very clear on concepts that will be useful even past chem 201. She is very generous as well in terms of grades because we get to drop our final/quiz
She is funny, smart, helpful, and very easy to understand. I would recommend to any one!
She is the nicest professor ever. Highly recommend her. Very helpful, articulate, organized, smart, funny, sharp dresser, and every good quality she has it. I absolutely loved her class. She made it fun and interesting. Her exams are super easy and there are no surprises. She's truly an awesome person. We love you Dr. G :)
Definitely the best chemistry teacher at MESA and city and miramar. came to 201 after taking crisper and professor paula teaches better than crisper and is approachable, answers questions, makes joke and is just a joy! makes coming to class worth it. TAKE HER !!!
One of the best profesors ive ever had! Also took her for Lab and she made every class very enjoyable!
Very good professor. Lectures are clear and easy to understand. Tests are very fair. Best Chem professor I've had yet. Recommended.
Easy to understand, friendly, clear, fair and not too hard. Take this class.
Gustin is very personable and truly enjoys teaching. VERY laid back-allowed us extensions on hw/lab due dates when a majority of the class had 5+ exams the same week! You learn on your own, use her as guidance when lost-very approachable for help. take her for lecture and lab!!!
By far the most interesting class I have taken in the past 2 semesters. If you need to take chemistry, choose her. She is very clear in her lectures, and will make the class as interesting as it can be. I've gotten A's in both her classes and as long as you do the suggested homework and take good notes, the tests won't be bad. Good luck!
Lectures are not hers; either textbook or other professors. Class time was spent doing problems. Lab course was just as dreadful. It's true she is laid back, etc. In spite of that, I DO NOT recommend her courses for those who wish to learn chemistry. A's in both her courses but would not retake her courses if I could go back.
Greatest Chem professor I have every taken. Her lectures are clean and clear. The way she lectures is perfect for note taking. Make sure to do the homework from the textbook and you will ace the class with flying colors.
She was very personable and sweet. Definitely a humble professor that is a genius in her field as well. However, I felt like the class was far too easy to pass. It lacked the rigor of other chem 201 classes, and for that reason I never even had to study to earn an A in both lecture and lab. Learning the material in depth is still possible though.
I hate chemistry but she was a great teacher, so far the best Chem teacher Ive had. She made the lectures interesting and upbeat and you learn a lot from them. The homework is just recommended which is nice, but I recommend reading the book to do well on the test. As long as you study and do some of the recommended hw you should do alright.
Dr. Gustin great teacher. should have dropped the class because my skills were crappy I love chemistry again. would have much rather received an F and attend her lectures, than drop. Learned so much. funny and interesting.
Very helpful professor. Some of the labs are a bit confusing but her explanations before the experiments do a great deal of clarifying things. Easily approachable for any further questions you may have about the labs. Act like and adult in the lab and she will treat you like one. Her office hours are also very helpful and productive.
Paula's an incredible teacher that teaches and tests you on knowledge that you'll need not only for her class but also preps you for Ochem. Integrates real life examples with lectures. Tests/quizzes very similar to hw, no curve balls. She's approachable, helpful, friendly, and remembers almost all her students by name. Do the work and you're solid.
Took Chem 200, 201 (summer), and 201L from Paula. Formula for success: 1) Attend class 2) Read 3) do Homework 4) do practice exams and quizzes (x2-x3) High A in 200 and 201L, low A in 201 (tough summer course)
She's super nice and super clear when she explains material. Will help if needed. Very friendly and funny! You definitely need to work for your grade, very tough stuff! Definitely come to class and do the HW!
Dr. Gustin delivers an incredibly fun and informative lecture. Her quizzes are her tests are pretty easy and make sure you have a good grasp of the core concepts. Definitely my favorite class this semester.
I didn't try at all and managed a C in this class. Put some effort in and you'll receive a much better grade. Professor Gustin is a great person to learn from, her lectures make sense and she gives optional homework that is important to do for practice(I didn't do it). Has a few quizzes, and exams. No tricks, just do what she asks, she is very kind
I'm one of her biggest fans and I'm not a chem person at all! The best thing about her is she is fair. She realizes this isn't everyone's only hard class and does what she can to ease the pain but there is no getting around chemistry. The quizzes can be easy points if you study but the tests are pretty tough yet she isn't unnecessarily hard.
Great teacher and fair grading. I would take her again.
Gustin is organized, clear, funny and helpful. For Chemistry, she is one of the best teachers. Take Gustin if you're willing to do a little homework, look over her (very well organized) previous exams and in-class worksheets. If you do the work, she'll give you enough partial credit to get a good grade. You might not get an A, but she's worth it.
Dr. Paula Hjorth - Gustin is a great professor. Her Chemistry 100 and Lab course was an experience I tremendously enjoyed. I learned many interesting concepts, facts and made a lot of friends in Lab. Easily one of the best professors I've ever had the opportunity of knowing. Completing the homework is a must for doing well on the exams.
Assigns homework packets, can be helpful, but even if not are worth big points so do them! Accepts late work, and even if turned in incomplete you will still receive most of the points so its worth it. Very reasonable to talk to if you have a question. Offers an extra test in case you miss one. Def would take again!
Great professor, I highly recommend you to take her. She's passionate about the subject and makes the class interesting as well. The tests are pretty clear-cut, just read and practice the problems. A really friendly prof!
Great teacher ! Im plannig to take her again for chem 201. Very nice, and respecful to her students. If you need anything she's always there for you
The professor is great but the nature of the course was very difficult because we jump straight into chemistry without going over the basics. It seems very difficult but somehow people do well. I got an A but I almost never understood the lectures. So don't freak out if you don't understand. No one understands in the beginning but it gets better.
One of the best chemistry professors I've ever had. Her lectures are very clear and she engages student by including humor and real life examples of the topic. Her exams are tough because each question tends to be an accumulation of the previous topics, but if you understood the concepts you should be fine, it's Chemistry after all, so READ!
she is one of the best teacher ever. she knows what exactly what her doing. she is really knowledgeable and clear. if you want to learn chemistry I highly recommend her.
AWESOME PROFESSOR!!!! THAT'S ALL!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!!
She is THE BEST. Understanding, explains things well, fair grader, also VERY FUNNY! Highly recommended!
You need to take her class!! She is so nice, makes jokes in class. Her lectures are super interesting, and she is very understanding and accommodating. She gives extra credit assignments. HW on every section, 3 tests throughout the semester, and if you are happy with your grade by the end you DO NOT need to take the FINAL!!!
TAKE HER!! 4 quizzes 5 exams drops the lowest of both! So if you're happy with your grade by the 4th exam you won't have to take the cumulative final :) She's super available with her office hours. I was happy to end gen chem with her :')
Good teacher, nice choice for chemistry. The class itself isn't a free A but the teacher gives great lectures.
Dr. Gustin is a real gem. Chemistry has never been my strong suit but she makes it feel like a breeze. I finally understand the conceptual problems. Tests are easy if you study and do the unofficial homework she assigns. She'll drop your lowest test even if it's your final. Extremely upset I won't be able to take her again :(
This teacher ruins med school dreams. She says the book is too detailed but does not say what to study in it until days before the tests. She posts practice tests, but only low value questions are like actual tests. Quizzes are easy. But they have low value. She makes tests so confusing that everyone gets a C. C ruins med school careers.
Dr. P is funny & charismatic like a hot nerd mom. Her lectures are entertaining & she applies the material in lecture to real life situations to make it easier to understand. I went into the class not taking a Chem class in over 10 yrs & I have an A. She grades well & gives you points on exam free responses if your work is right & you're competent
Her lecture notes are easy to understand and informative. There is homework but it is not graded. However, the homework will really help for the quizzes and exams. She is a very generous test grader and drops the lowest quiz and exam! Also an 88 and above is an A! She's a really nice and caring professor. I definitely recommend taking her.
I am so glad I took Paula's class, especially for my first college chemistry class. She's incredibly understanding and caring, pretty easy on grading, and will work with you to get the best grade possible. Even in an 8 week summer class, I am finding it easy to understand because of how thorough she is. Plus, she's just adorable and so funny.
Prof. Paula is wonderful! She truly cares about her students--she doesn't try to be tough just to be tough. Her lectures are well structured, and she doesn't test on topics she doesn't thoroughly cover in class. She creates extra practice worksheets to prepare us for tests and quizzes, and the homework is reasonable. She's kind, helpful, & nerdy!
Dr. Paula is an amazing professor! She explains the concepts of chemistry so well. This was my third time taking Introduction to Chemistry, and I passed her course with a B. I was able to understand everything she taught and she was very helpful and caring of her students. I'm very glad I took her course over the summer.
She's chill and fair. Just do all the reviews she gives you and you'll get an A.
Probably the sweetest professor I've had. Her lectures are very clear (she even adds some humor to them) and she tells you exactly what she's going to test you on. Her tests are also very reasonable (the study guides are usually harder than the test). Be sure to take notes and pay attention and you'll definitely pass.
If you are a non-science major looking for an easy chemistry class for GE credit, take Chem 111. Professor Gustin wrote this class to make chemistry more approachable to students. Her class focuses on the chemistry aspects of societal issues such as pollution, energy, and diets. Drops lowest test AND quiz score. Homework preps you for tests.
Great professor.
This is possibly the best professor at Mesa College. Her lectures are incredible; I didn't really have to study. No homework. I didn't need the book. Just take notes and pay attention.
Amazing professor! She has a great personality and she is insanely knowledgeable about chemistry. Her ability to explain chemistry and convey topics in a way that most students can understand is incredible. I hate going to class because I've always preferred learning the material on my own, but Paula's lectures are too good to miss out on.
Professor Gustin is a great professor!!! Take her!
Amazing, caring and great person and teacher. She is more than happy to help outside of class whether it be lecture or lab material. She gives great lectures. Chemistry 201 is a hard class so be ready for the ups and downs.
Paula is awesome!!! She explains chemistry well and is very friendly. She cares for students and helps you prepare for her exams. Wish I could take her for O chem.
Great instructor, she gives examples of how the material we are learning is applicable in different job areas, posts power points and example exams/ quizzes online. Do the homework and those you should be set. She drops the lowest quiz/ exam, including final if chosen. Out of 435pt, 360 exams 50 quiz 25 take home assessment. 88A 77B 65C
Dr. Paula is amazing. One of the best teachers I've ever had. I would highly recommend taking her!
Great teacher and amazing person. Be sure to register for her class the second you are able to, it fills up fast.
She is the sweetest and most caring professor I have had. Her lectures are also super clear and she reviews homework problems and any other questions you had. Her class fills up fast so sign up as soon as you can.
She is one of the best professors. There is four quizzes, three test, one final and the lowest quizzes is dropped. Her lectures are clear and she is super clear about what is going to be in a test or exam. Put some effort and it will be easy to get an A. The entire grade is based on test and quizzes. NO extra credit.
Wow, one of the best professors I've had. It was a different class this term because of covid but she really cares about her students and their success, has very clear lectures, and is understanding on grading. I skipped some lectures and did fine in the class. Our once weekly Zoom meetings are recorded. I absolutely recommend her as a teacher.
Dr. Paula is a wonderful professor. Her lectures (both recorded and done live over Zoom) are clear, concise, and easy to follow. She is an incredible teacher and made biochemistry very fun to learn about. She is extremely organized, you know exactly what is expected of you and even though there is a lot of work, it is manageable if you keep up.
Dr Paula is one of the best professors I have ever had. She loves what she teaches and it shows. She is a gifted lecturer - manages to break down very complex material so it's easy to understand. Do go to lectures and take notes! She gives you all the information right there. She is caring, patient and approachable. She wants students to succeed.
You always knew what was going to be on the test, HW was never required. Quizzes were short and sweet, no surprises and overall just a great teacher. Chem 201 is supposed to be one of the hardest but she managed to make it super easy. Take this class ASAP if you are required to take 201.
During the pandemic, she's been extremely helpful online with adding many office hours. Her lectures were explained well. I never had a bad moment, she's very awesome. Take her!
Taken Fall2020 and finished above 95%. No graded homework. 4 quizzes, questions are similar to HW so do it; both MC and FRQ, 1 quiz is dropped. Tests are hard but if you study and do HW you got this, both MC and FRQ, upload FRQ to the canvas. Watch Ochem tutor. The final will replace one of your tests ONLY IF it helps your grade out. TAKE HER NOW!!
She only gives an hour to complete 40 questions on exams and 15 on quizzes. Does not care about the students wellbeing. A lot of people in my class were stressed out because of this. Does not offer study guides for the quizzes and those for the exams are useless. No study guide for the final either. You can also find the textbook for free online.
I had her in Fall 2020. Most of the class was very stressed. Not enough time for exams BUT what is on the test is what she teaches. Personally, I found the class informative and prepared me for O Chem. You'll need the textbook for homework that is not graded. I recommend doing the homework. No EC. She is very sweet and chemistry is not an easy subj
Great lecturer she explains everything well! Do the homework assignments as its great practice for quizzes and exams. She drops the lowest quiz, assignment and exam. She's very accommodating and available during office hours.
I took her class Fall 2020 and had a great time! She nailed online lectures. Materials are ready to review as many times as you want, so you can study at your own pace in a way. Her lecture is organized, clear, and prepares you for quizzes and exams. She added extra office hours before exams! Chemistry can be fun!!
I think her problem was teaching online. I wouldn't recommend her if you are taking an online class.
You should take her! Very easy to pass her online classes!
Dr. Paula is an incredible professor. She is organized, her lectures are engaging, and she let's you know what to expect and what is due from you at the very beginning of the semester. There are a lot of lectures and work required to be successful, but she sets you up to succeed if you keep up and come to class regularly. I highly recommend.
Probably the best professor I have had. Dr. Paula loves to get to know her students and wants everyone to pass. Although this class is test heavy all her tests are exactly from what she teaches PLUS written notes are allowed on exams. The zoom lectures are recorded and it is easy to go back and 2x the speed to review. Overall, she is amazing.
Dr. Paula is great! Sets you up to succeed and lets you know what is expected of you. The exams can get difficult but she is not a hard grader, as long as you demonstrate that you understand the main concept on the exam short answer questions, you will get most of the credit. One of the best chem teachers I have taken thus far. Highly recommend!
We love Paula! Shes the absolute best. Without a doubt would take her again. Shes so sweet and actually cares about her students. She has 4 quizzes and 4 exams with a final. The material is hard so dont get behind! Stay on top of the homework and youll pass. The class is actually fun once you lean the material.
Professor Hjorth-Gustin was absolutely exceptional at teaching and working with students. She is very clear and breaks everything down into manageable bites. Out of my entire two years at Mesa her class was my favorite one just because she is an exceptional teacher. Highly recommend taking her class if you want to learn chemistry and succeed.
Best professor ever!
She is not only and amazing professor, but she is also so caring. You will learn a lot from her. She actually made 201 easy! Don't fall behind with the material and you will get an A
Paula is one of the best! Chem201 is a difficult class but she had a way of making the material easy and understandable. She gives real world examples that tie in to the lecture material and makes you realize how important chemistry is to the world. Highly recommend completing the homework she assigns. Her exams are a mix of homework and quizzes
Prof. Gustin was fun and had good lectures, you could tell she knew what she's talking about. Make sure to take notes and do the online homework and the ungraded textbook hw because that's where you'll get most of the practice you'll need. She doesn't make the class hard, but the material is challenging. The grade is mostly from tests.
took her during summer and the class was surprisingly easy, she's a great professor and has recorded lectures. No extra credit but as long as you pay attention it's really easy. She's also very helpful and caring which is always a plus in a professor.
Professor Gustin is an amazing professor who teaches a difficult subject really well. You can tell she really cares about the material as well as the students. She makes the lectures fun and interesting so the subject feels easier to learn.
Extremely smart lady, lectures are always a delight, she really knows her stuff. I also appreciate the pretty writing. However, claims that this course is easy is nothing short of a lie, it can be a difficult course but on the bright side there is homework for you to practice. It will help to do every iteration possible of every problem.
Dr. Paula is amazing, sweet, and fun! Chem 201 is hard in general, but she is very accessible outside of class for questions, and her homework assignments make sure you are prepared for the exams. She drops one quiz, one exam, and 2 homework's! Would definitely take her again.
Dr. Paula does her best to make a difficult class manageable, and is amazing at explaining things. She is so sweet and caring, always doing her best to make sure students are learning. If you take the time to do all the ungraded homework assignments and show up to lecture you can excel in her course!
She's teaches Chem 201 so good. I love her for the fact that she ends up dropping your lowest exam grade, which means if you do good on all 3 exams, and are satisfied with your grade, you can skip the final cumulative exam. Gives a lot of homework, which helps a lot on quizzes, and homework. Be willing to do the work, and you will easily pass.
I loved Paula! I was nervous for 201 bc I heard it was significantly harder than chem 152 and 200, but she made the class fun and interesting! She does have slightly boring lectures but she answers you canvas emails fast and grades easy on exams. If you interact with her outside of class she will love you and grade easier. TAKE HER!!
Dr. Gustin is a fantastic professor who makes a challenging subject engaging. Her lectures are informative and the homework is essential prep for exams. To excel, stay on top of the material and consider using unstuck ai alongside the textbook - it's a helpful study tool.
Amazing professor and course. To succeed you just need to complete the textbook problems and if you are able to do those, it will be similar to graded assignments/tests. One exam is dropped which is neat. Lectures were clear and concise. Would recommend to anyone who wants to get a good grade.
Has online lectures for all of her lessons, 15-20 questions canvas hw every other week, five exams but you can drop one. She emails back really fast and doesn't mind answering questions during lecture. Really cares about students take her if you want to understand and not just learn!!!
Her outline was very clear, you knew exactly when the next quiz/exam would be and she gives you all the tools to succeed. if you can't make lecture she posts her lecture videos as well as textbook homework (not graded) and her lecture slides and canvas homework (graded).4 exams,4 quizzes and final (1 drop from ea.) Super kind and make lectures fun!
She's a nice person but during lecture it's really hard to follow what she's saying. She doesn't teach clear, I always had to come home and watch bunch of videos on my own to understand a simple material because she always made it complicated. Her exams are long only few people could finish on time.
She's super sweet and grades extremely fairly. Yes, her lectures are sometimes hard to follow, but I think that's just the Chem 201 content. Coming prepared before class or watching her online videos after class is helpful. Study from the canvas hw, the textbook hw, and the old exam questions to prepare for exams.
Great professor. Really understands how to go step by step through everything. Very open to questions especially if you don't understand. There is HW, but its online and the book h.w. you don't have to turn in.
Dr. Paula's lectures pair perfectly with the exams! I love how everything is clearly laid out and curated perfectly. No surprises, super organized, and if you put in the effort, you'll do great. I always felt good walking out of exams because nothing felt like a surprise. If you're thinking about taking her class, just do it! 10/10!
I love her, she's always offering to help us but this class is not easy. I had to prepare well for the tests but she provides helpful video lectures to access anytime. Textbook platform has great video tutorials as well. Wish she could teach the whole chem series. Very caring, approachable, fun, easygoing person. No EC/ curve.
I enjoyed the class, she is really passionate about biochemistry. I appreciated the anecdotes and real life examples. I was scared to take this class but I ended up liking it and found it really interesting. You do have to do the homework to do well in the class though. 10/10 would recommend!
She's tough but she's great! Really passionate about chemistry and explains the topics very well. Her exams are hard! You have to dedicate time in doing practice problems and understanding the concepts. Her homework and practice tests really help and she's always available for office hours. She's a great professor. I would definitely recommend her
Hands down the best professor I have had in Chemistry. She explains in depth, one of the few teachers that don't make you feel dumb and meets you at your level. If you go to office ours she will review your exams with you. She genuinely wants you to succeed and cares about all her students. You're missing out if you don't take her class.
