well. people feel that she is hard because they don't go to the lecture and take note. You should go to the lecture and take note for every class meeting. If still have problem refer to the book than you will be in good shape!

she is very picky on the tests. it's hard to know what she's looking for on an exam even if you take good notes and go to class. i wouldn't recommend this teacher unless you had no other classes and could spend all your free time in her office hours.

If you attend every class meeting and take good notes its really not hard.Tests are all write in but directly from her notes and handouts.Anti-Bush rants were unprofessional.

Great professor, AMAZING lecturer. Very clear. Comments saying the class is too hard must be from very dim-witted people. Helpful comments on written assignments. High expectations in the field. Do everyone (including yourself) a favor - don't take this class if you don't like being outside. She has little tolerance for whiners!!

She is a hard grader, but if you come to lecture and read the book you should do fine. You need to learm to think outside the bubble for her tests, but after the first one you should get a hang of it. Good teacher, interesting subject.

The beginning of the semester is pretty much a review of Bio 106,107. Once you are past that the material is very interesting. The lectures are good and helpful, the book is short (each chpt is no more than 10 pgs). She has really high expectations of students in the test. You really have to know the material for the short answer tests.

WORST TESTS!!! She's weard but nice and helpful but is the world's WORST and HARDEST Test Grader!!!! DON't TAKE HER! I studied the most in my life for this class and got a D!

This woman has a chip on her shoulder! She always seems angry about something. Lots of liberal political rantings. Hard grader. Only 3 essay tests. Not worth it! If you have to, wait until next semester to take with another teacher!

One of the best lecturers I have had in a long time. She makes everything interesting. She doesn't just present to topic but provides many relevant examples (studies) to go with it. This class is not for those who dislike the outdoors. Attend class, study, and PARTICIPATE. You should do fine.

okay, i dont get these people. i thought she was great. her tests are clear and to the point. everything she tells you is on there. her final is easy too. yea she sucks as a person, but shes a good lecturer, shes an easy A. just look over her notes and you'll pass. shes awsome.

The tests are short answer questions and not hard. She is a hard grader and expects you to be very detailed in answering the questions. Just make sure you ATTEND class to get HER NOTES, read the material and you should have no problem with the tests. She knows her material very well and explains things very well. I recommend her.

you'll learn a in her class, she's great at teaching but a very hard grader. She seems to get a lot of satisfaction in giving Cs to her students. One thing for sure is that there's a chance your grade wont reflect what you have learned and know at the end of the semester. Good luck!

Worst teacher I have ever taken. She makes it extremely difficult to pass.Go ahead dont listen to me and waste a whole semester! I am an excellent student and I did not pass....her grading style is ridiculously pathetic.

This was an overall great class. Her lectures make sense and are easy to follow. She teaches very well. The thing is that there is a LOT of material. The exams are simple and require application rather than memorization. I recommend making study guides and reviewing your notes at least once a week. The sad thing is that she's unapproachable...

I think she is a great teacher, don't be afraid to ask a question she is always willing to explain. I do have to say, you have to study hard for all her tests. Don't slack off on her second test or that will kill your grade, trust me. try not to miss class and take notes, flashcards really helped me.

She's really quite good if you have an interest in the subject matter. Her lectures are clear and backed up with real papers. Do the reading, participate, and be ready to go into the field most classes. If you don't like plants, of course you won't like the class. If you're dumb or lazy, of course you will fail. Hormonal-yes, crazy-maybe, but good.

I was very hesitant going into Dr. Schiffman's class but she's NOT bad. Emailed her with any questions and she promptly responded with detail and clarity. Tests come straight from her notes and Lecture Supplement, don't need the book. She goes fast so record the lectures so you don't miss anything. Isn't hard but does grade kinda hard. I liked her

I really liked her. She's passionate about what she teaches and she teaches it well. People say she's a hard grader but I'm not complaining.. I've had WAY tougher bio teachers than her. Her tests are based off lectures but you do need the textbook also to fill in all the things you didnt get to write down. she even gives you the page #s to help. :)

Not a easy subject. There is a lot that needs to be learned. Dr. Schiffman is a really good lecturer but she really needs to adjust herself to the dynamics of a class. I understand this was an upper division class but come on when almost everyone is failing in your class there must be something wrong. You need to STUDY!!! DO NOT TAKE IT AS A JOKE!!

She comes off as dry and direct which can be off putting at first. Overall - I think she's passionate about her job and most importantly cares about the students and the quality of their work. She doesn't sugar coat anything - you have to work hard to earn your grade. No sh*t, Sherlock. She is knowledgable and helpful during her office hours.

Learned so much from this class. She's tough, but she just wants to see if you know the material. Put in the effort and you'll get the grade you deserve. She's sarcastic and very direct, but she's funny. Grade consists of two exams, two papers, a discussion, plant press, class attendance and field trip attendance. She's very fair.

Polly doesn't do well with whiners. If you are engaged in Biology, as you should be, then you will get more from her class than any other. She's clear, fair, and concise. She is the most helpful professor I have ever had. Yes, you have to work for your grade- but if this is a problem then why did you ever sign up as a Bio major?!

If your passion is evolution or even ecology, this class is amazing. She's so full of knowledge. She's also very willing to discuss the course material after class, by far one of the most intelligent professors on campus. Lot of work, 6 quizzes a week and 1 final, that's it, but it keeps you on top of the material. Amazing semester.

Taking her right now. 6 quizzes a week. Have to say they are all cumulative and quite tough. I enjoy her lectures alot and she's great at office hours. Goes over quizzes with me when I feel uncertain. Responds quickly to emails. She does drop 3 pop quizzes and 3 2pm quizzes. Not bad professor as reviews say. She's just passionate about it. STUDY!!!

Helped me tremendously this semester. Always can be available to meet and talk about difficult concepts. Tough grader, but you will learn more with this professor than any one else in the department. Ask tons of questions, and make sure you talk, talk, talk. Don't be quiet.

I thought Dr. Schiffman was a great Evo professor. She is really knowledgeable in the field and very straight forward with her presentation of the material. Make sure to go over the examples she gives in class and truly the best way to succeed is to review a little everyday. Yes you have to work for it but its an upper division bio so
