Good teacher. Gives lots of feedback. If you turn in your assignment on time, you will get a good grade. HIgly recommended
Great teacher. Gives lots of feedback. If you turn in your assignment on time, you will get a good grade. Very fun and interesting class discussions. Highly recommended!
Very clear on assignments and expectations. Fun class discussions, very helpful and willing to answer questions. I dreaded this class but she made it fun.
This was a great class, I enjoyed the class discussions and readings. She was always there to help address any questions. We had four essays and class discussions. I highly recommend this class to anyone!
If you already know how to write an essay, just do the work, take her suggestions on your drafts seriously and you'lll get an A. If you do NOT know how to write an essay yet, (a friend of mine was an international student) then I do not recommend her. She assigns essays, but doesn't teach how to write them. But she is very nice and very clear.
Good teacher, friendly and nice sense of humor. Liked her casual demeanor and felt that she ws helpful and supportive. Gives good feedback. Helpful with any online help you need. Just a nice person who wants you to succeed. I would take another class from her.
Engaging lectures and class discussions. Great personality as well. Completely leans to the left, so conservatives beware!!!
really nice lady. Always able to help and sometimes flexible with deadlines. She gets the class involved with discussions that make you think.
Don't take her class if you don't wanna waste your money! You don't gain anything at her class, even though she grades easy. She always says, "Vista has the problem last week, so I couldn't comment on the assignment." She is using Vista for her excuse!

Paula is amazing. Really open discussions in class and likes people who speak up. Is pretty cool if you really need an extension or something. Conservatives beware! Half the fun in her class is watching her expression when someone says something that she doesn't agree with. But she values everyone's opinion! Take her! I hate English, but love her!
Rember people we are in college and should be old enough to be open to others opinions. The class was structured around adult learning principles, open dialogue, student teacher interaction and discussion. Great at getting people engaged!
She is fair, open minded, and above all she treats her students with the upmost respect. In her class I never found myself glancing at the clock (unusual for me). She's very liberal and invokes great stimulating conversation that is relevant to todays world issues. One of the best english classes/ teachers I've ever had.I thoroughly enjoyed her class
her class is weird.. i feel like i didn`t learn anything about ENGLISH thru this course. i guess she's nice but i rather have her teach right. i don't recommend this class w/ her.
She is SO weird. She doesn't teach anything. One of the worst teachers! Don't take her.
math is not her subject.. gave me an incorrect grade which took me a quarter to appeal....I finally got the grade I deserved after taking it to another level!!!!!!

Paula is the best! Do speak up in class, she's super-smart.
I really liked Paula. I took her for Hybrid English and she was wonderful. Loves to answer questions and very approachable. Will help edit all your work before final drafts so you can get a good grade, now that's a cool teacher. So what if she is opinionated?? Aren't we all!?? Great teacher, would recommend her.
She's a decent teacher that grades more on message than mechanics for an english teacher.VERY liberal but doesn't flaunt it as the only correct position on matters. I somewhat liked her and would recommend her class for non-english majors.Overall, slightly above average.
This teacher is very nice. Although she is very liberal in the way she speaks and conducts grades, overall things aren't too hard. You are assigned aprox. 3 short stories to read weekly and 3 essays. Her topics that you choose from are not very helpful and it is hard to come up with ideas. You have to listen!
Professor Sebastian was very knowledge, helpful and approachable. She takes the time to get at the heart of English and writing papers in a collaborative-style classroom. Encourages student dialogue in discussions to enhance true learning and critical thinking. Highly recommend any courses offered bby her.Used textbook: "The Informed Argument."
She Is interesting and very intelligent. I feel as if she graded others easier then others. Not a very good teacher , she had no interest in helping me. She lowers a whole letter grade for even the simplest of mistakes. She gave me bad grades and was uninterested in even spending extra time to help.
In class she seems nice and conversations can be fun. She didn't teach at all though. Just will tell you what she wants, then if you do that, she will still find things you did wrong, and give you a bad grade. I have always had A's in English, but she gave me a C-! I do NOT recommend her at all, for any type of student.
This teacher is very nice. I took her hybrid class and I liked it. She's not strict about the length of the research papers and provides very clear instruction in class and online. Very interesting discussions, and she's also really funny.
Took hybrid, online was for learning & class time, discussion. Works w/you if you have computer issues that make you miss deadline. Best for students who are willing to learn on their own rather than wanting teacher to spell out every detail. Just like in the real world, if your politics and personality clash you will find her more difficult.
Liked her so much the first time I took her again for my second English class. Since you only meet once a week for hybrid she will mark you down if you miss more than 3 classes, but that's completely fair. I would and do recommend her to anyone who wants a teacher who cares. If you are conservative though, be open to a liberal mindset.
Class mainly based on discussion which I did well in; I got an A- overall. I wrote a paper she gave a C because it was too personal, but a girl completely ignored all writing prompts and wrote a self story and got an A. Teacher is very 'pet' oriented - either you're in and can slack, or you're out and have to work 5X as hard.
Her classes are open to debate and a lot of great topics are discussed. She is open to all thoughts and suggestions and invites an open-air class room.
I took the hybrid class and loved it. Her explanations of what the research papers are to be about are hard to get ideas for, so you must go to class! Class is where I got clarification and ideas for my papers. She's not strict about the length of papers. Good discussions in class, overall a great teacher.
She DOES accpet late work if u have a good reason (computer problems/whatsoever) Also, if u do pay attention and try hard on her homework, she will notice it and give u an A. She is not picky about research paper, just put ur ideas in it and she will understand it. Overall a GREAT TECHER FOR ENGLISH, she brings good topic to class, i ENJOY IT
I've taken both 101 and 201 with this professor and I absolutely love her teaching style. She is very open minded, although some would say she is quite liberal and biased. I love how she involves the whole class. She is very intellectual and kind. I recommend her as a teacher. You can talk to her about anything and she is always understanding.
basically, i have written over 100000 words in this quarter, and i have read over 100 articles for her research paper....hard However, i learned a lot, she provides great topic for the class to write their own essay. Very open-minded on everything, it's like having a debate class rather than an Eglish class anyway lol Great teacher over all
Take her class... she just grades paper based on your idea... interesting discussion in the class... If i have to take another english class... i would take hers
She is very open-minded however, her grading isn't consistent. she grades with her personal views added to it. my friend had the same answers as my other friend on a certain assignments and my friend got an A while my other friend got an C. I took a hybrid class. you had to go to her class but we did nothing there. We just talked about topics in ou
HER ENG 101 CLASS IS A HYBRID CLASS! I don't know if it was new for this (summer 2009) quarter, but it wasn't mentioned on the schedule. Anyways, she grades really easy. She's very lenient with students who speak English as a second language. As long as you follow the guidelines on the website (really easy to understand) the you should be absolutel
stay away from her!
Do not take her class. She doesn't exactly teach the class. She gives you readings, talks about them, asks way too personal questions, and then assigns an essay with little explanation. I believe her philosophy is "If I like you, you will pass". Favoritism indeed. Even though I have an A in the class, her grading is very inconsistent.
Her grading is not exactly based on anything. If she likes it you get an A if she doesnt you get a C. Her reading assignments are very time consuming and she grades on length instead of content which doesnt make sense. You have 1 10 page paper to write at the end of the quarter. Discussions in class are also lame. Be careful with this one.
Good teacher, her grading is unpredictable. She's really good about extensions if you have a good reason. There is reading every day sometimes it's long and sometimes it's short. She likes it when people participate in class. Attendance is highly recommended as she does not let people makeup what was missed in class.
She's extremely hard on grading. Very critical on details when you are writing an essay. I like her but, she's too liberal. Open for opinions but tends to lean on her own opinion. If you write strong essays you will pass, but if you struggle writing BEWARE.
this teacher was amazing! only wrote one essay for the whole quarter. we had 7 homework assignments. recommend you take this class!
Research topics were really fun to read, write, and discuss. She asks thought provoking questions and creates a safe environment where you are free to express your opinions. She takes you through the process of writing a research paper which is really helpful when writing the final paper. I would recommend this class.
Doesn't give a syllabus. First paper is graded ridiculously hard and you don't have any criterion to follow when writing it! Class got better, but way too much responding to essays with a political agenda. Pros: you write 4 4-6 page papers instead of one huge one. My class was hybrid, so you don't have class every day.
She was the best teacher that I have ever had. She is very liberal, but great lectures and she acts like one of us. she has a great laugh, but can be very serious. she helped a lot... but favors people. but if you participate then you will be fine and get an A in the class. so just work hard and it will pay off my friend!
no guideline on how she grade, no grade given untill u turn in ur final paper - TOO LATE! we talk most of the time in class - talk but not teach/learn, learn absolutely nothing from her, a waste of time!
this class was pretty easy. the professor gave guidelines on how to write each section for the class but your grade is mostly about a portfolio you make. class often gets out of control and she doesn't take contol of the situation. class time is mostly student discussion and peer critiques. certain students do get favored.
She is a great teacher! loved her class!! have to read alot but review about the topics we read in class and dicuess them. Have 3 mini papers (2-4)pages, then one final research paper (7-9) pages. Very outgoing and speaks her mind, funny and made the class laugh alot. Highly reccommend her!!!
I learned a lot from this class and ultimately my writing skills are a lot better, but I never had any idea on how well I did on papers. There were no side notes or critiques on what was right or wrong with my paper, just a grade. Her class was interesting, but I'm 50/50 on whether I'd take her again b/c of the uncertainty in grading.
Feisty. Plays devil's advocate in class (she told us at the beginning she would). Class time was more about the topics on hand, not writing about them. Was vague about what she wanted on most assignments. Very intelligent, but not my favorite as a teacher. In general doesn't give advice on how to improve, just that it's wrong.
Prof is very fun to talk with during discussion time in class, but her lectures weren't very formal or informing. Her course materials aren't terribly well organized, and it was difficult to know specifically what was due, when.
This teacher didn't help me personally at all. She doesn't comment or use a rubric on the final drafts which is very frustrating. I'm a strait A student and English has always been my favorite subject, but i didn't like this class at all! she spends more time on discussing controversial political issues than actually teaching writing skills.
Overall her class was not noteworthy in any way. Attendance is mandatory. She has a strong passion for political issues. She's an easy grader if you can actually write and follow directions. I like how informal everything was. She goes on a first name basis. As the English teachers go here, she is easy and has a half-decent set of classes.
Couldn't be happier I took this class. The professor was extremely clear and the assignments were surprisingly helpful.
I thought she had an excellent system in the class with the assignments and teachings. She made me think while keeping almost all of her biases out. Taking her class will require much effort but she's great overall
If you are a girl you may have an easier time in this class. The teacher was inconsistent with her grading and sometimes unclear about her grading expectations for each paper. I was not happy with this class.
She is awesome:)
She is not taking any rough draft, and there is no extra point opportunity. It is hard to get a good grade in her class because her assignments were unclear. DO NOT recommend her at all.
She is probably the coolest English teacher on campus. She's a pretty hard grader so I wouldn?t recommend her to anyone wants an easygoing class. Lots of readings but never too much. The work load tends to get hefty but its an English class expect to be writing about an essay about ever week that?s for sure.
I LOVED HER! take this class. you write four essays and do four sets of reading questions. there is no final no test. i wish i took 201 with her as well. if you have any questions she is there to help. also she is really funny (if you actually listen to her).
I would not recommend this teacher for an English class, she doesn't teach you how to write you just read different stories and answer questions about them. You will not improve on your writing at all or feel satisfied with your writing skills leaving her class.
incredibly helpful, very easy to understand, she is happy to answer questions or assist if needed, you can walk into her office and ask for help and she will usually drop everything and help, the course requires a lot of reading and I suggest sitting front and center, she helps you with your essay after each rough draft, she is a great teacher.
Lots of reading and writing involved, and if you want to keep up in the class, you need to do the reading! She's nice, but she also doesn't take crap from anyone. Also, if you do the readings, the in-class discussions are interesting.
There's a lot of reading involved in her english 101 class and the essays are based off the readings. She doesn't teach you how to write essays, I did not learn a thing. The only thing I got out of it was how unbelievably terrible I was at writing essays from her feedback. She wasn't clear on instructions and grades pretty hard on assignments.
Dr. Sebastian is pretty easy, as long as you turn everything in. There are a lot of readings, but you will do alright if you don't read them and pay attention in class discussions. She is VERY liberal, so if you are not, then keep your mouth shut. Everything she says is liberal, which makes the classroom a little uncomfortable. Easy class overall.
I loved Dr. Sebastian! There was a lot of readings in her English 101 class, but even if you didn't do them, and you paid very close attention in class, the essays based on the readings were easy enough. She gives back very detailed corrections of rough drafts very quickly and she is more than willing to help you if you go in during office hours.
Read reviews about her and thought she would be an okay professor.. but i thought wrong! her instructions are unclear, and expects everything to be her way, or the highway! she's very disorganized. Not a very hard class, but instructions are unclear and she's very strict on how she likes things..
I loved her! She was great. She can tell if you don't give a flip about the class, so turn in all your assignments and let her know if you can't before the due date. Be professional. She expects a lot from her students but that's what makes her a great teacher. Shes fun and understanding, and she likes to joke and laugh too. A+++++++++
Excellent Professor, Teaching was spot on learning the lessons. Easy to understand and I think she really cares about wanting her students to grow in her teaching style.
Horrible teacher! She is not clear whatsoever on what she expects us to. Just simply posts the assignment and asks us to look at the book then she can heavily grade us down!!!!!! TAKE HER IF YOU HATE YOUR LIFE!
Best professor ever!!! Very helpful and clear in explanations. I learned many interesting and helpful things. All assignments will help me in future career. I highly recommended this professor.
She is one of those not many teachers that loves to teach and believes that grading is more likely an art rather than science. Paula is very clear on directions and honest in grading. I loved our discussions on articles! It was on of the best classes I've ever had.
Highly recommended! Excellent teacher! I like the way she managed the class. The discussions about articles we read are inspiring. The assignments she gave us are in clear order and instruction. I learnt a lot from her class.
Very unclear on grading. She grades on her own preference. Didn't learn anything from the class at all. AVOID her if you can.
Really great teacher. Smart/Passionate gives really good tips on writing. Funny, nice SWAG
Professor Sebastian was AMAZING! Gave lots of good feedback, open to questions of any type and very clear and helpful in her responses! She loves individual ideas and manages her class extremely well!
She was a great teacher. We wrote 4 major essays that counted 45% of our grade, and had reading responses. She was helpful and grades pretty easily. She gives good feedback in rough drafts that allow us to properly fix the essay to almost ensure us to getting an A. Easy going teacher.
The teacher is very helpful and if you give a visit during office hour you are most likely to get 100/100. My grade jumped from B to straight A's because of this. The tchr requires you to be serious and attentive and PUNCTUAL. Papers are pretty easy because format comes straight from text. The instructor is nice if you are being proactive.
I loved this professor! Basically the whole class prepares you for writing your essays. Also the professor goes over your essay's with your through 'check points'.Super helpful! She is open-minded and makes sure you understand the readings you read the night before. The textbook is also interesting and helps out with essays. Final is an essay
I didn't learn anything. She graded super easily and we spent most of class sitting in silence because she couldn't get the class to have a good discussion.
This teachers as awful. She never explained her assignments and made her assignments due the same day, hours later that she posted them even though the assignment itself would take a lot longer to complete. DO NOT TAKE HER COURSE
She is EXTREMELY rude and does not want to help her students, only beat them down about their writing. She is unclear in what she wants - her assignment says one thing, and her rubric says another. She makes working hard for this class difficult because of her poor attitude when responding to students. Set up for failure when taking her class!
She doesn't want to help me and the only thing she told on my assignment was- you should withdraw it, you are not able to attempt this class. She didn't tell me anything about my weakness and she supposed I should know everything. Her instructions are unclear especially I am taking her online class.
She is the worst English teacher I have ever had. She is not clear on her expectations of her assignments. The first 4-6 assignments the average grade was a 65%. She is hot and cold on grading and offers no real insight on what she wants. AVOID THIS TEACHER!
Really doesn't appear to care about students or her reputation and doesn't seem to listen. Not helpful. Uninspiring. I'm an A student and I found her attitude to be very disappointing. I do not recommend.
This teacher is seriously the worst! She is so careless and unhelpful! She is not clear about anything. She should quit teaching all together.
Paula Sebastian is the worst teacher. She is unclear about what she wants. She is very rude. VERY RUDE.
She would post crucial instructions the night its due or the day after, then fail you and say "check the instructions again". Even though I had a 504 plan, she wouldn't give me any leeway and her instructions are always changing. She was rude to the other students (and me but, I was pretty rude back). 1010 would not recommend.
I'd rather eat cow pie than sit through that class again. She actually got mad at students who struggled in her class and would acknowledge the fact she gave poor instructions but blamed you for just not being better. Who on earth would hire this mess
If you take English 101 online, you are going to find yourself doing a lot of busy work. There were several readings assigned at once (maybe 5-7 at a time) (1-3 questions per, 6-8 sentences each) and they aren't even interesting. There is an essay after each set of readings that is somehow associated with the readings. I didn't learn a thing.
I took her Technical Writing course. It not technical writing, but simply another research paper course. We had some technical writing assignments, but if you didn't copy the format from the textbook EXACTLY, almost to the wording, you were given a poor grade. The biggest assignment was a research paper. She should not be teaching this course.
Doesn't give a meaningful advice and not the slightest bit helpful to her students. On top of that, she is a tough grader that doesn't want you to pass the class. AVOID HER AT ALL COST!
I really liked her, her class was very easy for me (considering that I've struggled with English since middle school). Participation really matters in her class but if you put in a decent amount of thought in the reading response assignments and your essays, they'll count. Readings are long and pretty annoying. Gives decent feedback most times.
Not helpful and nit picky grader very harsh. don't take the class with her.
She marks you down on one report for a mistake but will not on another report for the same thing. She is not very clear on her instructions. I would not recommend on taking her class online.
I don't know why most of the ratings are bad. I went into the class expecting the worst but I was pleasantly surprised. She's not a harsh grader & she gives good and supportive feedback. The class isn't that hard, you just have to do the reading and you'll be fine. There are long assignments but you have plenty of time to do them. Would recommend
Not too bad of a class but the lectures were long. Most classes consisted of talking about the previous night's reading assignment which could get boring. Overall I would say the class was a solid "meh"
Her grading was difficult, but if you're willing to put in the effort and grow as a writer you should have no problem getting an A. It should be said that I took English 101: Business Focus.
I would never take her class again. Attendance is mandatory. Lectures are long and not interesting at all. She grades tough whether it is a rough draft, final, etc. There is a lot of reading and several questions that follow the reading. I suggest to not answer all of the questions in one night and to answer while you read along.
I took this class as a Hybrid, and the lectures weren't bad. There were roughly 4 readings to do per week. She would change due dates of assignments if we asked. The only thing I didn't like was that she graded rough drafts hard as if it were the final draft of the paper.
She is not clear at all. If u want some explanation after she already graded u, she wouldn't replay to your emails. This course shouldn't be thought by her. The explanation she gives after she graded one assignment clashed with the one she gives for the following assignment, forcing one continue earning worest and worest grades.
She tries to engage but it doesn't go over well as she chooses to discuss controversial topics like politics. Granted it was just an FYE class but it still wasn't the best experience.
Worst teacher I have ever had. She doesn't teach. The book does. She doesn't grade using the same rules every time and has given me 50% on assignments based off of incorrect headers or margins... She doesn't teach she critiques. She told me she already corrected a mistake a made in a previous essay but when I looked at it she said nothing about it
You'll need to put a lot of work in to pass this class. She's a tough grader and will make you work for it. I can't tell you how many hours I stayed up writing a paper only for her to mark me down dramatically for a misspelling or a wrong citation. If you're looking for something laid back, don't take this class.
Seriously worst professor I have ever had. Her instructions are very unclear, but if you do the assignment wrong and explain that the reason was because you misunderstood her instructions, she doesn't care and won't regrade. She is insane. She gave me a D on an assignment simply for not indenting the subject line of a memo. DONT TAKE HER CLASSES
If you are considering taking her class because all the other ones are full, don't do it. Seriously just wait for the next quarter. I made the mistake of taking her class, she made us do an assignment right off the bat no one was prepared for then refused to change the grade. Save yourself!!!!!
I entered this class hoping to inhance my writing skills and finish a general ed. However, after starting the class there was a clear lack of instruction. With only a few graded assignments, poor instruction caused issues. Also, Paula refused to clarify instructions and had limited office hours. Consider taking her in person before online.
I took Dr. Sebastian's English 201 course. There was very few actual assignments it made it difficult to fix your grade. If you go see her at her office hours she is super helpful and gives a very good explanation on the direction you need to go, however her hours are limited. three essays with the final one being a 8-10 page research paper.
Avoid this instructor if possible. Her grading is of no consistence. I really think that she grades solely on her mood. If she likes you, you will get an A, if she doesn't... Well, you will find out.
Paula Sebastian wasn't a helpful professor. Her office hours are very specific and only an hour of time (9-10 AM online M & W, 9:30-10:30 on campus Tu &Th), which is annoying for an online class. The rubrics for some of her assignments were unclear and hard to write papers by. She is rude in her tone of feedback and she grades hard.
Very rude in her tone. Super condasending in her tone. She treats the whole class like we are "stupid millennials" or something. After 1 week we had an assignment which was covered in class for MAYBE 10 minutes. She gave me 43/100 points and told I totally missed the point of the assignment. Well, she never told us the point in the first place.
She had no consistence on grading at all. I caught her going back on her word once, she doesn't even know what she grades upon. Worst professor I've had at Bellevue College. I've gotten all A's and B's at BC up until her I got a C. If you're taking her class because it's the last English class available, wait until next quarter.
Thought I was taking English, but turned out it was a class about immigration. All our readings were about immigration, all she talked about in class was immigration. She didn't communicate her expectations, and when we didn't give her what she wanted she'll happily give you an F. Very mean spirited. Worst experience.
