Did a lot of reading of novels, books were interesting. Not that hard to get an A, as long as you do the reading. Sometimes class can be boring, but so isn't any other class.

She has a different way of teaching. Takes a while to get used to, but it's really helpful. Instead of just turning in your papers, you have a 1 on 1 conference with her. You read her the paper, and she corrects it--right there. It is true that its hard to please her, but she is really helpful. I learned a lot, and I am a better writer from it.

I really like Sister Soper, but her class is definitely not easy. Lots, and lots of writing. I think I would have done better in her class, but I had alot on my plate that semester.

Fun teacher. Make sure you comment in class. She needs to know who you are. I am a terrible writer, but she loved me and hooked me up. The class requirements are confusing in the beginning, but they get clearer as you go.

I love Sister Soper. She really knows her stuff. She may be a little rough around the edges but if you express genuine interest in the topics she's teaching, you've got a friend for life. She may seem a little strange to most people but she is still an awesome teacher. She does give a lot of work.

She's crazy. You only write 3 papers the whole sem, and the final project is a group project. Your grade depends on your group. She is definitely rough around the edges, and yes she does believe in fairies, but she is fun & always there to help. If you're having a hard time with your paper, take it to her BEFORE it's due and she'll fix it for you.

This was my YA Lit class. It was probably the most difficult class I have taken so far. We had to read 30 books by the end of the semester, so the work load was tremendous. I would read for about 10 hours a week just for this class. Class was boring about 65% of the time, but sometimes it was really fun. She is picky with papers. The work is hard.

It's true that you need to get on her good side, or at least be verbal enough for her to know who you are. This is an intellectually challenging class, which was pleasantly suprising for a 100 level class. She'll stretch you, but cut you some slack at the same time. Take advantage of the help on the essays, she'll pretty much proofread it!

I didn't really like this class at the time, but looking back, it was a good class. The final project is pretty intense and I pulled a few all-nighters, but overall, I really like her as a teacher and a person. Definetely take this class if you don't mind a little work. It's really pretty good.

Awesome teacher. Here's a clue- do the work. A lot of people seem to be amazed that a lit teacher would ask you to read a lot. 30 books sounds pretty intense, until you understand that they are young adult books- that's about 200 pages max for most books, and usually less. If you don' like to read, pick smaller books, there's nothing dishonest

One of my favorite English teacher. Never a dull moment in class, has a GREAT personality. Homework load isn't to bad, just do it on time. Sometimes how she wants the papers written can be a little confusing, so be sure it ask questions! Overall probably one of my favorite english classes

I LOVE Sister Soper! She is one of the best professors I have had. She makes you work, grow and progress--and that's what we're here for!

This class is designed to expose you to as many young adult authors as possible in a short period of time. 30 Novels read may sound harsh but its really not that bad since most of the books are less than 250 pages and go by quickly. Otherwise the assignments are easy and fun. This class is about reading and discussing books period.

Love her! knows how to teach and makes a class would normally be boring interesting. Would recomend her to everyone.

I loved her, but her teaching style is unusual and not for most people. She can be very strict at times, but then sometimes she's so merciful that she rocks. Expect to work in her class.

Sister Soper is phenomenal! One of my favorite teachers of all time. She's hilarious, and really loves YA Lit. Contrary to popular belief, she does not actually believe in fairies. :) Do not take this class if you do not love reading, but if you do, this is the best class you could ever take: it's mostly reading with a lot of class discussion.

This is a 3-credit course but she gives 4-5 credits worth of work. She's entertaining and willing to help if you need it but I ended up having to drop the class because the 2nd half of the semester is such a hefty workload. Almost certain she's one of the harder teachers to take ENG 201 from. She's a Democrat, one of the few @ BYUI if anyone cares.

She's a tough teacher, but man can she find needles in a haystack. If there's a fallacy in your paper, she'll find it. She carefully listens to you. If actually want to learn something, take Sister Soper. She's a teacher who doesn't water stuff down to get university approval. She sincerely cares about her students. She goes out of her way to help

Sister Soper is awesome! She is hilarious and really cares about her students. She is not easy. She doesn't just let you skim by like other foundations teachers. I can honestly say I enjoyed every class from her. She says things that can be taken as offensive...she doesn't mean to. They're usually quite funny.

Sister Soper is a truly great professor. All she requires is that you do your work, and actually try. If you put effort into your work, she will see that and will grade accordingly. But don't take her class if you're not planning on taking it seriously. If you're not the type to do your assignments, you will fail. But that goes for any class...

Ms. Soper is an excellent teacher! She genuinely cares about her students and makes herself constantly avaliable if you have questions. Expect to be entertained! She has a hilarious personality that makes English comes alive! If you raise your hand a lot she may ask you to keep quiet. The papers are hard but she helps you along the way. Great class

i've never had a teacher go more out of her way to help me and make sure i was doing okay and learning. she has lots of experience and is very down to earth. do the work, have fun, and pass.

I loved this class, and I loved Sister Soper. She was great. She's really good at getting interesting class discussions going. She's blunt and her viewpoints are different from a lot of BYU-I professors.. but I like when people are passionate about what they believe in! She is not biased grading wise. She's fair.

It was a young adult lit class so there was a lot of reading. But i love to read so that's a plus for me. She is very opinionated and she makes you think about what you are saying. She doesn't let you sit there and be niave. Great teacher!!! Loved her. Don't take her if you are easily offended.

Sister Soper is amazing. She has clear expectations for papers in all of her classes, but if you ask her, she is more than willing to help. She has a love of the English language and of teaching. She also challenges students to do their best.

Soper was a great teacher that pushes you to earn your grade. I like all the previous comments about her sarcasm. Just because it is BYUI doesn't mean students need to be treated like children. She makes you form your own opinion. She can take a joke as well as she can give it. Don't be offended. Joke right back and enjoy the class.

Sister Soper is amazing! She connects to the students very well and has a lot of fun sass-back attitude that keeps you interested in what she is saying. Even though she jokes around, she teaches you a LOT and makes everything so much easier. She has no problem making herself available to you. I would have her as a teacher again.

I absolutely loved this class. Sister Soper is an amazing teacher She is hilarious and makes writing papers. Her class is harder, but I learned a lot from her. You have to go to class in order to pass the class. I highly recommend her. I would take another class from her in a heartbeat.

Sister Soper provides some needed, and not inappropriate, perspective at this strongly conservative, white male driven school. She can be a bit disorganized, but it's worth it for her teaching. She's pretty funny, generally, too. Just don't mess around and you'll be fine.

She makes you give your all to learning, but if you follow her advice and work with her, you will truly learn. Class with her is never dull, and her down-to-earth honest feed back "hurts so good." (But don't tell her that, she hates cliches). She made my tuition fee worth it this semester, because she really pushes improvement and she's hilarious.

I very much enjoyed Sister Soper's class. She is very liberal, very feminist, and likes to joke in a very dry way that not many people understand but if you get it she can be your favorite teacher. Class time is not always the most effective use of time though she's entertaining. We only wrote like 6 journals and two papers. Not much work.

Sister Soper is a great teacher! She helped me improve my writing. She is a tough grader, but gives good advice so you can improve your writing. There are some big assignments, but she gives you a lot of time to finish them. She isn't always very clear on what she expects from students, but I really enjoyed her class.

She changed my life! She is so amazing. She's very open-minded and forwards, sometimes people don't like that. She cares a lot about her students and wants them to succeed. She literally mentored me the entire semester and eco;urged me to keep writing. She is very good at making sure we understand what we need to do for assignments.

She is a hard teacher, but funny and caring.

I've taken her 3 times. She's hilarious. She takes no crap from anyone, which may explain the scoring here, but she's a fantastic teacher (in person, not good over zoom). She does grading conferences, so you have to read your essays out loud, but she gives excellent feedback. She clearly loves her subjects, which makes it easy for you to love them.
