man is she into herself. probably knows her stuff pretty well but take someone else if you can.
If you are accounting major, you have to take her. She makes you work but you learn. She has an organized lesson plan. As long as you know how to study for her tests, you should be fine.
The subject matter is difficult but she makes it almost easy to understand. Very helpful
Tandy is great. The class is a little work, but I thought it was easy.

Tolerable class
this is the most unclear teacher ive ever taken. horrible teaching skills make the material extremely difficult.
No thanks.
Auditing is a really tough class but she did a good job
Can't someone else teach this course?
I really can't comment on her teaching style since there was so little to teach in this course. Maybe that is why it confuses me why the other reviewers slam her for being unclear. By the looks of it, I'm going to see her again in the future and I don't think I'm going to enjoy it.
No thanks
The class was easy. She was very helpful. ACC 301 in itself is a lot of review, there's nothing to it.
favors male students, is very unclear about teaching material, her tests are very difficult, likes to disagree with students
Very unclear
Her class is interesting and fun. But she definately favors male students. Her exam is too long and very hard.
Dr. Tandy is very helpful and always gives 100% in making sure that you understand what is going on in the class. I have taken her for ACC 301, 420, and 470 and would definitely recommend her.
She is very clear and is concerned about each of her students. I just hope I get to take one of her classes next semester. She really makes lectures enjoyable.
Great teacher, very willing to help students and very nice.
Great professor. Very helpful.
Everything was clear and fair. Some people have a hard time in the class because she expects students to use their brains once in awhile.
her test is really hard
The class was a great learning experience but I warn anyone wanting to take this class to expect a lot of work outside the classroom.
She is very helpful and will answer any questions you may have. ACC 470 requires a tremendous amount of studying. Her tests are analytical and require that you apply concepts learned during lectures. Interesting class.
Sincere and helpful. Great smile!
She's really nice and has a positive personality. The material in the class is different than other accounting classes, so a lot of it may be new, requiring extra studying. Her tests can be difficult since they're analytical.
She is as nice as they come and her class is fun. But prepare to work your ass off outside of class on the audit project!
Tandy is the best professor in the Accounting Department. She explains all the material very well. She teaches very intense classes that require a lot of work. Exams are based on class discussion, and projects. She should teach 402.
Auditing is a very voluminous, but Dr. Tandy clearly explains all relevant material. She is willing to help you if you have any question regarding the class or life after the classroom.
I really enjoyed ACC 400. She is a good instructor and personable on top of it. Very knowledgeable and has great advice. Exams are easy as long as you do the required work and review the lecture notes. Make sure and get a new textbook package for this class, supposedly the textbook (hella pricey) will be good for 401 and 402 as well.
Great class, instructor was fun and interesting. Really seems to care about her students. A lot of random assignments and due dates to keep track of, tests not too bad, need to study notes though.
If you like a lot of homework and busy work, she's the one for you. Hours and hours of homework!!
Dr. Tandy is an excellent professor. She is always there to help you when you need it and will do go out of her way to help make you understand. This class is a lot of work but definitely worth the effort. I highly recommend Dr. Tandy to anyone, she's awesome!
So far, I like her very much. She REALLY cares about her students. Responds to my emails ASAP and helps me understand the real-world of accounting. Teaches very well and explains things. Although it's a ton of work, it at least prepares you...I recommend her EVERYTIME. Trust my words!
She is an amazing prof. I wish I could take her for all my acc classes. But she only teaches a few so take if you can
Wonderful professor! Fair, courteous, and respectful. Print out her notes and memorize them, they help on the tests. The dep't final was very hard, I got a B on it and A's on her other tests. I wish she taught more accounting courses! I'd definately take her again!
Really awesome teacher. You have 4 exams and it really helps to go to class everyday.
Dr. Tandy is super nice. A LOT of work, but not hard if you can spend the time on it. Study notes! All exams are mostly based on them. I also wished she teached more ACC classes but I am glad that she is the ACC dept chairwoman. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to begin your ACC education with her. Great experience!
A LOT of work in the course. The SUA kit will take up most of your time. I'd start that a week before it's due because it will usually take 8-10 hours per session. For her tests, just study her in-class notes, especially the accounting journalizing part - no need to really read the book. Great teacher!
So useful for accounting majors, she's the Dept Chair and has all kinds of guest speakers come in it's great to know what we're getting into! SUA is a lot of work but a great tool...Learned SO much. But keep in mind it's still an accounting class which means its a lot of work, but you get something for all your work!!!
I wish i have taken the course with someone else. She is so lame. The material is not hard but you have to be well prepared when you go to class , otherwse you are wasting your time there.SUA is heavy work of load.
Best professor I have had at UNLV. She is always willing to help keeps class very interesting. A lot of work but if you do it the class is not a problem
She is a very good professor. She is very nice has a lot of guest speakers. Only one problem with her is I attended every class and completed all the homework online and received a 79 due to low test scores and she don't do pluses or minuses but still wouldn't give me a B or even a C plus.
There is no plus and minus grade. I screwed up one exam and it is either get a 96+ on the final for an A or get 63-95 for a B. So it is either study very hard or not study. If you have the department chair bringing down your GPA this way, what is wrong with this school? She is not the only teacher to do this. I am transferring out of UNLV.
I think she is a very great and an extremely organized professor. Loved her class. The only thing that I did not like about the class was all the extra activity, such as attending professional events, career day, career services, etc. I thought that was unnecessary and should have been made optional, especially that it has an impact on your grade.
I really like Dr. Tandy, She gave interesting stories that kept that class fun. Although she is a fair grader, I wish she gave more extra credit or was a little nicer when grading because there was a lot a new material to cover. I do recommend her over Simon because she makes class more fun and she is a lot more easier to understand
Dr.Tandy is the sweetest!Loves to get to know the acc students. Took 400 over summer- she made it very doable. Her note printouts are very organized and her tests are directly from the notes. Book not needed for the exams. ALEKS (201&202review),2 exams + comprehensive final, online HW, speaker letters,&SUA project(very time consuming but easy).
Dr. Tandy was a great professor. I took her class this summer session 2 and it was very doable. Yes there is a lot of work but it is easy and she lets you work in groups. 3 exams and a couple of extra assignments. Doesn't sound time consuming I know. The SUA project is what took the longest. In a nutshell, great teacher and fair grader!
Awesome professor. Explains concepts clearly in class. Responded to questions I e-mailed her within a fair amount of time. Would definitely recommend.
Prof Tandy is very organized. She pretty much sticks to the schedule on the syllabus. The only thing I didn't like was the outside class requirements, which are diff. for people who work FT. I loved the online homework problems and the fact that the textbook will be used for ACC 401 & 402.
Did not use the book but you will need it for 401 & 402. Workload is huge but doable. Buy the package the school sells you will use everything. Test are from her notes. I'd take her again in a heartbeat.
Not a bad class, 5 weeks went by fast. I liked her as a teacher, she made it more interesting with her stories. If I were you, I would wait until summer session and take her for 470. Tests are straight from notes, and not to complicated. 2 exams and final, 7 easy group quizzes and 2 group projects, but nothing hard and can be done in one meeting.
An excellent teacher. Explains everything clearly, cares about her students, and overall just a nice person. I wish all of my professors were like her.
Professor is enthusiastic, committed, and disciplined. Expects students to be the same. Knows the material and the professional. Makes it interesting and fun. Highly recommend both the course and the professor.
I would recommend going to class. The material isn't necessarliy hard, but the exam review guides are vague and pretty much include everything. The SUA is time consuming, but if you double check with a group for each part you should be fine. She is very nice and knowledgable about the profession and what employers look for.
ONLINE WARNING: If you take ACC 202 ONLINE then know that the McGraw Hill homework will NOT prepare you 100% for the exams. You will have 90 minutes to take the exams. It is not enough time. Exam 1: Do the definitions first, then the problems. Exam 2: Do the problems with LOTS of Debit/Credits FIRST. Exam 2 made me drop the course. G'luck.
Took ACC 202 over the summer online. Totally thought I was going to fail because I failed every test but the last one but I still got a C. If you do the online homework and study the notes its possible to do better. Apparently she said she curved the grades. Good thing.
Overall good class that will prepare you for a career in accounting. Group project can be pretty burdensome (especially if you don't get placed into a good group) so be prepared to spend a lot of time on it. ACL assignments are difficult and time consuming and worth very little of the overall grade. Take it only if you are serious about accounting.
Actually a decent teacher. Her powerpoint presentations were very helpful, I barely read at all. The book is $300 which is ridiculous, and she is the only teacher for 202 that uses that book. Her final test is BS and she doesn't curve at all so beware
Great Teacher! Very helpful. Tests are clear and she prepares you well. Great at explaining things gives great examples.
Her Internal Audit class was an excellent elective that helped me better understand the materials in my other classes. The group project had some rough points, but she is a very lenient grader. She lets you take the IIA certification exam in lieu of the final, but I would recommend you just take the final. Her tests are not difficult at all.
Took ACC 202 online and was skeptical at first because of the other reviews. She's a great professor and emails right away if you have questions. Read the book, do the practice questions, and double check your calculations, it helps. I got an A on all the exams, but you have to really think outside the box on some questions and manage your time.
Class was on-line, a 5 week summer session. Not very helpful, responds to emails at her convince. I had to wait a week to review a test, as she was on vacation. 90 min. is not enough time for tests, with depth of work on questions. Better to take the class during a regular semester with a professor who wants you to succeed. Not sure she does.
4 week online ACC 202. Hmwrk is very time consuming, can use "check my work." Suggest getting a perfect score on HW since the tests are hard. There IS NOT enough time for the tests. Answer questions you know and then figure out what you don't since you WILL run out of time. Available for questions via email. Clear layout of HW and points. No EC
Took it online over summer. That was the first mistake, unfortunately I had no other option. Took her 1-2 days to respond to my emails & even then, they were unhelpful. McGraw-Hill based course which sucks. Not enough time for the exams and will leave you rushing to guess. Unnecessary/tedious amounts of homework which take hours of your day. BEWARE
Had her for internal audit and thoroughly enjoyed the class and her teaching style. The exams and group project count for the majority of your grade, so don't take those lightly. She provides handouts for her lectures, and if you study those you'll be totally prepared for the exams.
Excessive work and a waste of time. Learned more from professors at CSN than from this woman. SUA, connect homework, networking events, and not enough time for exams. She comes to class smiling, but it's a smile welcoming you to hell. Also, get ready to spend money on class materials. NOT WORTH IT.
Really pleasant lady. The class is interesting and it actually made me look more into internal audit. But the group project is a huge pain, especially if you're stuck with a bad group. Have the initiative to ask questions because the instructions are really vague. Do yourself a favor and team up with good students or it'll be a looooong semester.
She is my favorite accounting professor at UNLV!
5 week summer course. Only take this class if you absolutely need to. There is a ton of homework that averages about 2-3 hours a night. Mcgraw Hill based Connect. Do all the practice, the tests are hard but not if you study all the content. The last two exams are challenging. She provides PowerPoints with her speaking. Professor did all she could.
She's a sweet lady but that's about the only upside. Unfortunately she is also one of the worst lecturers I've ever had. Spends an insane amount of time talking about inconsequential things and flying through more complicated parts. Exams are not only more complicated than anything you do in class, but also worded vaguely. Avoid her if you can.
Dr. Tandy is a sweet lady. This will not safe you however when it comes to passing this class if you don't work for it. Tests are very tough and there is really no time to study since the semester is full of incredibly long HWs, assignments, SUA, outside of class events and activities. Study early and get ready for tests a long time in advance.
Nice prof! For exams, just study the notes & UNDERSTAND everything (don't memorize). Her tests are more applying what you learned than memorizing, but VERY doable if you study. While studying think of examples of the content and how you can write about things talked about. The semester long group project sucks IF you have a bad group.
Her class is a lot of work, but it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Show up, start assignments/projects early, study for tests, and ask questions if you need to. There are 11 pop quizzes, but they're only 2 points each, you get to take them with your group, and she checks them over before accepting them. No reason not to get full credit.
She does not go over the exam enough and the test are super hard.
1 project, 3 exams, and mini hw assignments in between. Her examples in class are easy but sometimes the homework is more complicated. Practice the problems from class & do the chapter practice problems on Connect. Start the SUA ASAP, its not a last minute project. Overall a good professor, but sometimes gets confused when solving problems.
Tolerable class. Ok lecturer. Online hw can be long and complicated, but do them since they are the easy points. SUA, don't procrastinate. Took me 3-4 hrs to do the last part. Class content is not bad, mostly repeat from 201. Go to lecture, understand her notes , don't memorize, get all easy points, and you should pass.
I enjoy the career-based assignments we do early-on and the extra credit event was nice. The homework and exams are pretty standard. The one standout thing was the SUA. Now that was a challenge. Overly long, overly tedious, and NOT worth as many points as it should. 1 exam is worth more than the SUA, but the SUA easily took me 20 hours to do.
This class had the second exam two weeks before the final. There is so much material covered that it feels like you drown in it by the time the test comes because you do not know what to study. The grades are nitpicky and very test based. 300 out of 625 points happens in the last two weeks of school so make sure you study hard at the end.
Made the class from twice a week at 1hr 15min to ONCE a week but no increase of class time for the one class. This caused her to only skim through the lectures & leave almost no time to ask questions or go in depth. You're on your own basically. the SUA should've been worth more than the exam due to how much time was spent on it.
Overall solid professor. She posts partially filled notes to bring to class. Uses Connect for HW. 2 exams and 1 final and you can bring 1 3x5 note card. SUA project will take a lot of your time so time management is important. If you read the required chapters and the notes taken in class, you'll be fine
Class is horribly structured. Spend very little time on chapters and spent class time listening to presenters. Meet up times are different every week. Easy class but the SUA project is ridiculously long for no reason. Nice professor but class structure is confusing.
Exams are vague. Classes and study guide do not prepare you for the exam. Good lady, but not a good professor.
Exams are very vague. Even though went through all the things on the study guide, it would still have questions never reviewed on the test. Nice lady, but the course content is not structured.
A ton of class time wasted w/ presentations from guest speakers, talk of networking, and writing thank you letters when its a small part of the grade. For the important stuff such as the SUA project, very little is covered and you'll be left high and dry. Get ready to learn on your own. Its also hard to get a response from her if you need help.
She made me hate internal auditing, and I never want to go through this career route ever because of this class. Really tough professor. Instructions for the assignments are not clear, and she will take off points because you followed her unclear instructions, saying it is not detailed enough. Don't take this unless you love group projects.
She is extremely kind and understanding with her students. I noticed other reviewers have complained about the layout of her modules, however, there is a reason she does it that way. Mainly because of the SUA. She does a great job explaining material and encourages you to ask her questions. My only complaint is there is little feedback on exams.
Professor Tandy is an amazing, sweet, caring professor, she help me learn a lot about managerial accounting and explains very clearly. The test are similar to the homework and some questions were a bit challenging. I recommend watching the videos and do everything else to not fall behind.
Be prepared to teach yourself. This is an in-person class but with the number of times that this class was canceled it is barely even a hybrid. Personally, I need a professor to explain something clearly or at least give me the resources. She does not teach. She has more guest speakers than actual lectures.
She is a very nice person but not a very good professor. I felt like I'm teaching the material by myself. The SUA was a nightmare and from A it took me to B. I didn't feel much guidance and had to figure out things alone and it wasn't easy. I could have given this 3 for difficulty but because of the way, I learned the material I gave it 5.
A nice person, but you're literally going to teach yourself. Exams are terribly difficult, the major project is extremely confusing and the study guides are vague, bunch of unnecessary guest speakers. Barely lectures, it's usually posted online, and out of 2 days she usually had class only on one, even though the class was fully in person.
She is a nice lady, but not fair at all. She doesn't teach anything in her class sections and every week she cancels her classes. I am very disappointed that I had to take my acc 400 with her and I studied really hard to learn on my own even though wasnt easy. She doesn't teach and expects you to know everything on her exams.
Be prepared to learn on your own! She doesn't teach anything in her classes. I paid alot of money to take this course for A and I ended up with C. I had nightmare on her class. No tutaring and extra help! She cancels her classes all the time and even she doesn't, you still dont learn anything. Unfortunately, she made me to hate Accounting.
Lectures are short and to the point. Minimal homework (usually 1 to 2 problems so they don't do much to help your grade). Several extra credit opportunities. Highly recommend setting up a chat for your class for when the SUA project comes up cause you're going to want to collaborate. Exams were pretty easy.
Great and easy class to take over Summer; however, among my peers, this experience was varied... Very test heavy grading criteria (~80% of grade) so expect to do well in exams or risk failing the class. A couple extra credit opportunities were provided. Content that was covered in the lectures were on the exam and practice is key to passing.
I am certain that I could have studied the material, and
I could have studied the material and taught myself. She is too eager to mentor. This was stifling. But I earned the best grade possible, due to my independence, drive, and commitment. It had little to do with her guidance.
She cares a lot about professionalism and networking. Other than that, the class was very boring and tedious. Everything covered in this class was already covered in ACC 200.
Near-perfect professor and near-perfect course in my opinion. The course-long group project is immersive. It is a bit demanding but the tasks you need to carry out are spaced out very well. Her lectures are clear and concise. Exams are mix of multiple-choice and written answers. I recommend Tandy for this course 100%!
I thought Prof. Tandy's class was easy, but you just need to attend all of the events listed. They can be kind of tedious, but nothing too difficult. The homework was pretty easy and she gave helpful comments on my assignments. A textbook is required for the second part of the class. She lets you use a notecard on the exams.
Professor Tandy covers the material quickly, but the exams are quite challenging. While the lectures can be dry, the SUA project is a helpful study tool. Using resources like ChatGPT and Unstuckstudy made the class more manageable.
Class was hybrid & you had to show up for points. Pushed hard on “what recruiters want” & created weird expectations in students heads. Felt like she taught about career readiness based on how she would hire vs how actual accountants would. Not much homework and tests are okay
