don't take her unless you love math. she is unclear and does not explain subject correctly
terrible satistics teacher. She makes asking a question a big hassle. She gets pleasure out of knowing that the subject is confusing to her students. Being her class becomes so frustrating. Many of my classmates felt the same as well.
Excellent teacher. She makes a hard subject very easy to understand.
I think she has a good intention 1 on 1 but in front of the class if a question is asked more then a couple times by the same student she gets mad & you can tell. She says I dont know why you dont get it...Well maybe it is because YOU CANT UNDERSTAND HER. Statistics isnt pronounced sta-te-ste
if you actually want to learn, then take her class, she is a very good teacher who explains everything thoroughly and grades fairly. if you want to slack off and get an easy a, then dont take her. she is also a very sweet lady
She has a bad accent and needs to learn english and correct pronunciation. But I like her quizzes.
A wonderful person teaching a difficult subject. Layed out clear notes, hw is NOT too much, she was helpful & bent over backwards for me. Allowed me to attend Saturday classes also. YOU will not get an easy A with any Stats prof! You have to try hard! Expect 3 tests & a final- she will even drop your lowest test score and give extra credit!
This professor is wonderful! She is very thorough and gives time to her students. She is a valuable resoruce. Her homework/practice exams are xcellent ways of preparing for her exams. It's not easy, but she makes it enjoyable through her dedication. She is a true professor who wants the best for her students. TAKE Mrs. Villapondo!!!!
Mrs. Villapondo was an awesome teacher! Very structured and followed syallbus exactly! Teaches math very well and makes you understand it! She's always willing to answer questions and don't be scared to! Best teacher for Stats by far! You'll learn a lot from her and its a fun class! Take her!!! I think she is hot too!
not that easy to understand her when she speaks...but when she writes on the board...its perfect. as long as you pay attention to what shes drawing or writing...you'll understand what shes talking about and pass the class
She is very good so fa. She does have an accent, but I can still understand what she is saying, she is very helpful and makes the subject easy. She is also very structures and organized.
she is extremly helpful and understandable. she makes sure everyone comprehends her lectures. she makes the class very easy and fun in a way :)..two thumbs up!
I had her for Stat and she's very nice and willing to help-but beware when I was in class her grading ruberic was this- 60% of your grade depends on test, 30% on your final, and 10% for homework and quizes, and she gives very-very little extra credit good luck
She is very fair and willing to help you. Very nice. Its not a hard subject obviously, but the tests were easy and a breeze of a class.
She is a sweetheart- I have trouble in math and she breaks it down nicely- Lots of homework unfortunately that hardly counts for any portion of your grade- tests were pretty simple- her accent is hard to understand at times, but if you sit in the front it's much easier to comprehend-
Very good teacher. Very enjoyable. Concerned about students and progress. Highly recommend and would take other classes from her.
Excellent teacher!!!! She is always on time and ready to teach. Class is a bit advanced; however, she makes sure students are left without a doubt about the material she is teaching!!!!
Gives fantastic notes and takes time to make sure you get the material. She is a great professor.
I cannot understand a word this woman says! She should not be allowed to teach math until she takes some ESL classes. You can tell that she knows math but because of her thick accent, you can't understand her. She also will mark you wrong and make a fool of you in class if you do a problem using a different method, even if the answer is right.
very STRONG accent,...nice lady,..but i just cant get with her teaching method,.. its more of a teach urself class,...lots of group work, and working out of the text book,...so i'd suggest for u to buy a book,...i didnt agree with some of her teaching methods, though her intensions were good,.....i wouldnt take her again :(
the class was easy, just study your notes and hw, and you will for sure get an A
Very kool teacher has ancient but her teaching method is very helpful. U learn alot her test r kind of hard but u can still pass.
though she does have a thick accent if u actually listen u will understand everything she says. she is a great teacher. tho i only recommend this class if u really want to start start at the basics of math. she is helpful when u ask if u dnt ask u dnt get help. the accent was the only prblm for other wise i would reccomend to everyone :]
horrible!first of all you cant understand her at all.she cant get control of the class.then she doesnt even teach well at all! she does all the math before hand and just puts it on the board. she doesnt even know the math herself so when you ask a question she points and says something that you cant even understand or she looks at it for 30 mins
Very hard to understand what she is saying sometimes. Its pretty much a self taught self taught class. She throws stuff on the board and asks" You get it? Okay", then moves on. You MUST study in order to pass, theres no way around it. Lots of homework and don't take this class unless you REALLY have to.
Yes, she has an accent. Yes, sometimes it takes her a second to go over the math. There is SSOO much material that everything has to be done in advance. If you don't act like a child you can pass. It's college. ALL test questions are from class or homework, doesn't even change the numbers, most are from groupwork.
Good class overall. Taught me a great deal about a subject I didn't care for. She writes all the equations on the board, which is nice. I failed the first test, and got Cs and Bs for the other 3, but still managed an A in the class due to the final. AS long as you are willing to learn, its an easy A
I really appreciated this teacher. A lot of people said they couldn't stand her because of the accent, but I didn't have any problems understanding her and I'm terrible with accents. She get a little bit frustrated when people asked stupid questions, but not to bad.
I'll admit that he accent gets her some weird looks but come on guys, she writes whatever she's talking about on the board. It could take any idiot with a 3rd grade IQ to deduct what she is saying. She is a decent teacher and her class covers a vast amount of material so she has her work cut out for her. 800pg in 16 weeks?!?! You do the math.
Very sweet lady!! She does have a thick accent but she writes everything on the board so you always know what she says. TAKE HER!!
She's hilarious. Statistics is just a boring subject. Class was easy, do the work and you will pass the tests with ease.
her accent is too hard an she doesn't go along with the book, she says that the book is wrong... i really don't recommend you this teacher...
it's a math not English class. she is very helpfull, easy, and clear. math is her world. do your homework on time, and follow her exam guide and you will get easy A. not much to do just put attention in class and go over your notes. she will tell you exactly what's on your test. easy class.
She really wants to help you excel. She has an acent but it's not hard to understand her.
very helpful. takes time to make sure everyone in class understands. let's you use formulas on tests. gives review sheets of the questions that will be on the test. i reccomend everyone take her class.
She has a really thick asian accent. She trys to help if you dont understand, but the class isn't super helpful for informative, so... try to get a different teacher if you can.
she's a real nice teacher and will help with anything you need the only problem i had was the class made it confussing but shes not that hard to understand and will do her best to help you as long as you ask for help and try to understand.
She is a very good teacher! her lectures are very clear. She will help anyone with anything needed even if you missed the class! if you just follow and study the lecture notes you will be able to do any homework and test questions!
She clearly knows what she's doing, but there's a pretty nasty language barrier. Often when you ask her a question, she repeats an answer to a completely different issue three times until you eventually lie that your question's answered. Also, even though she teaches from the book, she constantly uses different terms from it, so HW's confusing.
She's a good teacher and all, but if you love math and you pretty much know your algebra, she moves way too slow. And the other people in the class are always asking dumb questions. Overall, the class was very tedious and annoying.
Mrs. Villapando was an alright teacher she had times where she couldnt explain something real well but she tries. Her reviews arent always what she puts on her tests so watch for that over good teacher.
Mrs. Villapando was a good teacher. She teaches well, but sometimes she had a hard time explaining things and students correct her mistakes sometimes. Also she has an accent, but its not too hard to understand, but can be at some times. The materials not hard and I ended up receiving a B+.
Mrs. Villapando gives clear, concise guidelines and information about her tests, all you need to do is THE READING esp.for book-work at the end of each assigned section, & ATTEND. If you enjoy learning and want to understand a more basic statistic course, enroll in her class. Don't hesitate to ask questions but with patience. The answers are there
Villapando is a great teacher! At times she may struggle with articulating a concept well, but bare with her! As of now she only taught Calculus four times. She said herself she needs to get more comfortable. There isn't that much need for improvement however. ASK for help, she ALWAYS answers your questions the best she can! Incredibly patient/calm
Run, Run! She seems like a nice person but her teaching style is horrible!!! We started the semester with 40 students and 15 remain, asked her if she would grade on a curve to help us out. A flat no I don't know why she is still employed
She is HORRIBLE. She makes her exams 60% of your grade, final 30% and homework 10%. If you don't do good on the first exam then you fail the class pretty much. And I'm a student who never gets anything below a C and that has only happened twice:0 I had to drop because she wasn't willing to work with me. She seems nice but she is not. DONT TAKE HER
So much homework and not worth that many points. But she makes sure to try to explain everything well so everyone understands. Pretty cool teacher.
Was an ok teacher. She really knows her stuff but the tests can be complete curveballs at times.
Ignore all the bad reviews on here, I took her for 4 classes (math 130, 140, 150) because she is a really good teacher! Sure, her English isn't the greatest, but if you see her individually she will definitely stop everything to help! She stops class sometimes if you look confused. Study homework, pay attention, ask questions.
Her tests are curve balls from the lecture. Only certain parts of the homework helps for the test. The tests are what makes most part of your grade. If you don't do good on those you're basically screwed. I asked her for help for a test and all she said was "just study". No guidance whatsoever. Very vague when it comes to saying whats on the test.
She is a nice person but a terrible teacher. She rushes through the material and is constantly making mistakes and being corrected by the students. She says if you do the homework you'll be fine but you're pretty much teaching yourself. I believe when I was taking the class about 7 people went to complain to her to the dean of mathematics.
She is very smart and an excellent Math teacher. She teaches Math in an easy-to-understand way, and loves helping students during office hours. She allows you to contest your test scores and gives you a fair say in your test grading if you approach her about your test scores. I am taking her again and will continue as long as I can.
I read previous reviews and took her class anyways. She doesn't explain well and claims that she doesn't need to show work when explaining a problem because it's too easy. When we asked questions she would just laugh. Her office hours on her sylubus were wrong, and she was constantly corrected by our class. I highly recommend a different professor
Teaches something the most basic way then has the class so it a completely different way that no one understands. I didn't understand anything she isn't helpful.
She's not clear at all. Told us to get one book and after a majority of the class had already bought/rented their books she decided to let everyone know she wrote the wrong ISBN on the paper. Very annoying because she not only wasted my time/money but she's also very rude. No help at all. Hard to contact. Save yourself and take a different class.
Ha ha ha ha ha... because she is a JOKE!! I asked for help, I told her I felt that she was going too fast, and instead of asking how she can help, she basically tried to turn the class against me. The 'MAIN' thing she does is bog you down with hw. If you ask her to review ANYTHING before a test, she gets OFFENDED. I hated her class!!
I thought she was a good teacher. She explains in detail if you do not understand the problem and checks with other students to make sure they too understand. Her tests are tough but if you show up every class for the lectures and study then you will do fine. I recommend her.
She explains statistics poorly and seldom teaches the applications of the concepts. Once I asked a question, and her response was "sometimes, statistics doesn't make sense." Frequently, she can't answer questions because "she's not sure how to explain" something, especially if someone is seeking information beyond a basic textbook definition.
Mrs. V's way of teaching is very clear and easy to follow. She will write down each and every step that is needed in the equation so there is no room to get lost. Her class is homework heavy but this is college and you need the practice to perfect math. I recommend her if you want a great math professor, but do not recommend her if you slack off.
Great professor, thoroughly explains everything. Fair and lets you know what will be on the tests. The people who complain about her are just mad because either they want the grade handed to them without trying or they suck at math and they're blaming the professor. She's helpful and a great professor. Don't listen to the negative comments.
She really goes over the martial with you, step by step. If you don't get it she will be gladly go over it again. She also is flexible with tests dates. Her test are simi-hard if you don't take good notes or don't do the HW. You can always email her too or see her in her office. Take her if you don't want to much stress. all HW is due on test day
She's not a great teacher. Honestly, her class wasn't interesting at all, her English is impressive for her being foreign but she can't use vocabulary to identify with American culture very well, so the lectures are always confusing unless if she writes. I think she has good intentions but she just expects too much, especially from honors students.
Pros:Very nice/Willing to stay after class to answer questions/Homework is easy/she reviews before tests Cons: Doesn't explain things very well/tests were difficult to understand compared to the lectures,homework,&review/she would write the scores on the board after tests and the majority of students earned C's
Not very clear on her teaching, we would ask for clarification on certain questions, and she wouldn't be able to help. Would get frustrated if she couldn't solve a problem correctly. Nice lady but bad teacher.
I love her! She is so sweet and wants you to do well. If you struggle with math a lot, then maybe you might struggle. But she constantly asks if you understand as you go along, or if there are any questions. She does give you a lot of HW, but that's good! You need HW because it's math. I took her for Stats. and I'm excited to take her for Calculus
Seemed like a nice lady at first but I do not like her class. She solves a problem on her own on the board without explaining most steps and wants the students to figure out the rest on their own rather than teaching. The class I'm in has asked her twice now to explain how to do the problems in more detail but she refuses. I wish I had dropped.
Just trust me, you probably wont pass
super sweet but isnt very clear while teaching especially because homework doesnt match with testing. if youre not the best at math i would not recommend
This was calculus 2 so of course you need to attend every lecture to pass like every math class. She never asked us to memorize anything and gave us everything for the exams. She was a very liberal grader but your grade was all dependant on exams. I highly recommend her. If you do all the work it's impossible to fail her class! Lovely lady too!
She really wants you to succeed and pass her class, Im terrible at math and this was the only course I took this semester and actually enjoyed.
It is only calc 1 so the material isn't too challenging. Your grade will come down to how you performed on the tests and she replaces your lowest test score with the final and inputs the final as a separate grade as well. I suggest you complete the homework packets because she uses some problems from there on the test.
Really good teacher. Very knowledgeable. Do the homework and it can make a whole letter grade difference and do it as assigned to not get overwhelmed. Tests are not a lot of questions but each question is in depth. Taken her twice , moves fast. Don't recommend the higher math for intersession or summer but she's amazing for regular semester
Professor Villapando is a great professor. Her test are easy, but she hardly explains core concepts. Recommend her if you are not a STEM major, but otherwise you are better off with a professor further explains how and why you do certain steps.
Villapando was the worst teacher I have ever had. She doesnt know how to explain problems thoroughly let alone teach the class. Gives countless amounts of homework for each chapter, and half of the homework isnt even gone over in class. Do not take her, she will make you hate math all over again.
She's a nice teacher. Class is lecture and test, homework semi-optional. Very neat and organized lectures that definitely help with test. Sometimes stumbles on explanation but always conveys the idea. You will need to do extra studying outside of class and contact other resources. But overall you'll have a fun semester, it's calculus!
The overall class was interesting as your test grade is 80% and 20% is your homework. Just make sure you're ready for the tests since they're worth a lot. Overall it was a fair and easy class and the professor is more than happy to help if you don't understand.
She tries to teach, has YouTube videos as well. Her methods were hard to understand. Heavy use of online homework. (About 100 bucks for it). I find it hard to understand her explanations due to accent and word choice. Starts out explaining calc with trig for examples. Which doesnt exactly make it easy to learn. Not the worst. Not the best.
Definitely, a nice woman, explains all of the lectures very thoroughly and is always asking us if we understand the topic. Always goes over the review for quizzes and explains the matter very well. This class requires 100% participation on your part, but if you understand math this class is easy.
Don't take her class it's very difficult to understand and she doesn't explain well on what she is teaching. Will move on quickly after righting notes and never actually discuss any of the topics.
She’s nice but you want someone who can TEACH not be kind to you. The chances of passing her class are low unless you’re great at TEACHING YOURSELF! Tests are hard to pass and worth a lot. They are 4 questions so if you miss 1 you fail. She moves on quickly during lectures only thoroughly explains things once. Trust the negative reviews please
A legitimately great and caring professor. Truly the only time I have ever felt the teacher cared that I succeeded. Great lectures and as somebody who struggles with math, I finally understood concepts Ive struggled with for a long time. Lectures paint a clear picture in great detail. Honesty not a single thing that I didnt like.
Very kind professor. She is super sweet and enjoyable to talk to. However, she is an extremely harsh grader. The exams are NOTHING like the homework or the study guides she provides. They are so heavily ramped up in difficulty. I do not recommend unless you enjoy spending 12+ hours on lengthy homework and heavily graded exams.
Professor Villapando isn't a mean-spirited teacher, she's just not a very good one. Very pleasant to talk to and is willing to answer questions, but she just doesn't explain any of the concepts needed to be able to do well on assignments. And her tests are extremely hard, nothing like the homework. I would find someone else to take this class with.
I had a 97% throughout this class until the last exam, which lowered my grade to an 89%. Because of this, the professor gave me a B. She doesn't like to give students an A, she makes that clear. Miscommunication on her end is frequent. The homework has nothing to do with her lectures or the exams. Don't take this class with Villapando.
She is the worst math professor I have ever taken at AVC. The test has nothing to do with what you go over in class. She skips important steps when demonstrating a problem and just assumes you already know what she did. Tests were every Thursday, and this is the summer, so it would've probably totaled to 12. Don't even risk taking her!
Do not take her class. Test are extremely hard. only 2/28 people in my class passed the first test. I've always been pretty good at math and I could not even finish her class since I was failing.
She is a very good teacher. She provided lectures on YouTube to help me prepare for class.
Honestly, such a kind teacher overall. She cares about her students and is always available during office hours to help. The class itself is a bit difficult, but it is doable. If you do the homework and assignments, you will most likely pass. I will say, stats is hard but ask her for help!! She will help you
Terrible math class experience. Quizzes do not match up with weekly homework assignments. Does not update grades. Very particular in what she is expecting us to do but does not explain how. Expect to do a powerpoint presentation for this class. I have never in my life done a powerpoint presentation for a math class.
This is my worst experience with a teacher ever! First of all, I can't understand a word she's saying, second never receive grades on time, I believe she is behind on grading at least 6 weeks. DO NOT take this professor, very difficult grader, this is my lowest mark at this college, that will screw up my transfer. No clarity, absolutely horrible!
She has a strict grading policy with a heavy emphasis on tests, which make up 60% of the final grade. Homework is optional but encouraged, and a group project contributes 30%. Attendance is mandatory, and there's limited flexibility for excused absences. Tests are challenging, requiring memorization and problem-solving skills without any aid.
This teacher combined with Cengage will give you the aboslute worst Calculus 1 experience. Do not take this teacher for Calculus if you have zero prior experience with Calculus or want a 4.0. In a class of around 33 people, only d3 people went on to Calculus 2. The only person who got an A in the class, took AP calculus in highschool. F
Little to no contact does not respond to emails. Does not grade until weeks later with no feedback. You'll have 10 teaching presentations. Instructions are not clear, you must be visible in the recording of your presentation. There are weekly discussions/homework/presentation you can work ahead on. Weekly quiz each Friday.
This professor is horrible. She doesn't understand simple questions, she doesn't help you with you're work and she doesn't add everything in the projects then takes points off because of it she doesn't teach or make the work understandable
She's very unprofessional, she doesn't understand simple questions, she doesn't help you when you need it she doesn't include stuff in projects then takes points off because of it.
This professor is extremely unprofessional, doesn't not help with questions or work, and doesn't understand basic questions asked. She's very disrespectful and extremely unfair I wouldn't recommend taking her ever.
Villapando's class is challenging, but engaging if you stay on top of the work. The lectures can move quickly, so using resources like Unstuck ai alongside the textbook really helps. Expect a tough grading curve, but the professor genuinely wants students to succeed.
If you are in high school or right out of high school DO NOT take this class. I was in my first semester junior year taking it and it was one of the worst experiences I have ever had. I had to drop this class because my highest score wasn't even a passing grade. No extra credit, no retakes, no calculator, and no notes. Please don't take this class.
This professor isn't professional, she would assign homework for the first week or so then stop and don't ever mention again then at the end assign over 20 courses of homework. On the presentation you can do everything that was expected and she would give you a bad grade because she didn't make the directions clear. Don't take!
This professor isn't professional she would assign homework for the first week and then at the end of the semester she will assign all of them at the same time and expect you to finish over 20 in 2 days on her presentations you could do everything the direction says, but if you miss something that the directions, don't say you will get a bad grade
Extremely nice, however she makes her class extremely difficult to pass with little oppurtunity so new math students please avoid.
