Doesnt really teach geometry so good luck. No one shows up to class. He drops one of your tests with the final if it scored higher. Lots of homework which he doesnt grade till the end of the semester. Gives extra questions on tests so that you can score more than an 100.
I hate geometry, but this class was nice. There is lots of homework, but if you manage your time its fine. There are four tests and a final. His tests are very easy because his test reviews are the tests themselves. Hes super sweet and really only cares about the wellbeing of his students. Basically, just do the work and youll pass for sure.
He is very nice but does not teach very well. There are about 11 homeworks per test, and there are 4 tests and a final that substitutes your lowest test grade. Regardless if you did well in all the tests you need to take the final. In every test there are several questions that count for extra credit.
Took him for business calc, so not an easy class. I really liked his style of teaching. You have 4 tests throughout the semester and one final but before each test, he gives a study guide which is basically the answers to the tests but with different numbers. He's extremely chill and I enjoyed his class.
ON god the best professor in fiu. Trust me this guy is legit when it comes to his students, he takes the time out HIS day to help me learn. If you fail that's because you didn't try hard enough because he gives you practice exams and drops the final. Amazing professor 10/10 would recommend
If you need to take calculus 1, definitely take it with this guy. He will ensure you have a solid foundation for calculus 2 and beyond. He gives study guides and is available outside of class, which ensures you can pass with an A.
Pedro is a real gem. He is probably the BEST calculus professor in FIU. He cares about his students and he works hard to help everyone understand the subject. I 'm mediocre with math and at times it's hard for me to understand a few lessons but Pedro will work with you along the way. He's generous with grading and drops your lowest test grade.
This professor is nice and he cares about students. Tests are from worksheets and HW assignments. Also he curves his tests ALOT, so if you fail this class its because you didnt try. Downside of this class is that it is Active Learning and you learn everything with your groups. Because of this he posts explanations of the worksheets on youtube.
It is not a lecture based class. He makes you sit in groups and gives out a worksheet and thats it. He has a youtube channel where he does questions but the way he explains it in a waty that seems like if you already knew how to do the question. he does not teach at all.
Dont let his stats scare you from taking him. This is the absolute best calc professor in FIU. Calc is not an easy class you need to study and put in work. He helps you pass. He give hw worksheets and has a channel to help you solve them on youtube. I was never good at math. I barely passed pre cal with a very low C. I have a 100% on his class now.
This man is hilarious. His class is as easy as it can get for calc. If you don't like active learning then don't take him though. I struggled but only bc I don't learn math well through active learning & never took precalc. You really only have to worry about exams. Do the assignments which are minimal & do good on exams & you're good. He's awesome
As with any other calc class, youll have to learn most of it yourself. However, the material isnt that hard if you practice enough. Theres 3 tests but theyre easier than the hw and overall hes very caring. He also has a youtube channel where he explains how to solve all the hw problems, and this is extremely helpful!
Professor Espina is an amazing professor and he does the most to make sure you succeed. There are three tests and a final. He has a youtube channel with steps to work out all of the homework problems. His homeworks aren't worth much but they're a good way to boost your grade. He is really nice with extending deadlines and giving you chances.
Professor Espina is one of the best professors for calc. He provides practice tests that are the exam with different numbers, will explain things to you if you're lost, and is extremely caring if you have conflicts with exams etc. Do yourself (and GPA) a favor and take him! You won't regret it
Personally, I dislike active learning courses. However, Prof. E was very helpful. The inclass worksheets are not designed for conceptual learners. So, I visited Prof. E office often. He was nice and would explain the concept in many different ways untill I understood it. His youtube channel was helpful if you need help. Gives good practice exams.
Best professor at FIU hands down. He's super funny during class and helps his students at all times, even office hours and his Youtube videos that go over the homework problems step by step. Take him for calc you won't regret it!
Great calculus professor. Really generous with homework due dates, gives study guides for exams, meets students outside of class through Zoom meetings and has videos on YouTube demonstrating how to complete problems. Tests aren't extremely difficult if you know what you're doing.
Prof Espina cares about you a lot if you show it. He has a ton of office hours, zoom meetings on weekends, etc. You need to go to class and do the HW. You can turn in HW late. He's super funny and I hated calculus in high school. If you want an A, you will get it, if you don't you won't do so hot. I loved his class and I would take him again!
This is by far the best math teacher Ive ever had in my life!! He is so caring and truly wants his students to learn. For every hw assignment he posts videos that go step by step on how to solve them. However, dont think you can pass with your eyes closed. YOU NEED TO WORK FOR YOUR GRADE. Tests are exactly like the hw different numbers. Take him!
Love this man. I have never had a teacher care so much about his students and truly want to see them succeed. If you want to learn calculus take him. Good luck :)
Do yourself a favor and take this man. I dont think I have ever met a better math teacher. He will do everything in his power to help his students pass. Show him you care about the class and he will reward you.
This dude is the goat of calc. Not even a joke. I have not gotten a bad grade in the class yet, but I have seen he helps a lot of students outside of class and gives many opportunities. Some people complain just because they don't study enough, but honestly this dude is the real deal. No needless overcomplication, but you still learn a lot. Goat
The best professor in FIU calculus
Let's get straight to it. Prof. Espina is the BEST math professor I've ever had in my collegiate career. I was scared to take Calculus based on everyone's horror story with the class, but I came prepared to work and it's paying off. There are quizzes, 3 exams, and a final. Practice makes perfect is all I have to say. Hopefully, I get him for calc 2
Amazing super funny and as long as you do your work you will understand the material.
Prof. Espina is ACTUALLY the BEST math professor I've ever had! He makes calc so easy and simple. At first I was afraid I would fail calc lol but not the case and its all because of prof espina!! You won't regret it, he's amazing!!
Gives guided notes, for the lectures, and learning activities. Both are graded for accuracy. Though he does provide videos where he solves the problems. 3 exams. Quick emails & attendance graded. A lot of extra credit, if all the work is done. He is super nice about grading and wants you to pass. He really cares about his students! Fast Emails too!
Professor Espina is the best Calculus professor at FIU. I had the pleasure of having him for both Calc 1 & 2 and he made both classes extremely doable. Homework consists of learning activities (which he goes over them in class) and my lab math. There are 3 exams and 1 final. Final grade replaces your lowest exam score. Take him you wont regret it.
Espina is one of the best professors I had at FIU. He cares about his students passing and gives lots of extra credit to make sure you do. I ended the class with 104%. He gave a lot of homework but he puts you in groups so once you have a good group ( I did) you'll pass. His tests and quizzes are pretty straight forward.
I took calc with Prof. Espina and I have to say, youll pass this class only if you really try. Calculus is hard, but hell try his best to explain new material to you and answer your questions. He jokes for a lot of the class, which helps you feel comfortable enough to ask questions. Lots of homework, but complete it and you can use it to study!
Real funny guy, knows calc is difficult but tries to make it as light as light as possible. There's a fair enough amount of extra credit so that u can boost ur grade. Usually goes straight to the point and knows what's important. He's a little fast but just ask him to repeat. Approachable outside of class. If u do the work, shouldn't be difficult.
worst teacher ive ever had in my life. he doesnt know anything and asks the students to check his work, hes always late and spends half of the class talking about his life and how he can do a hand-stand.
espina is an amazing guy, he is a real human unlike many professors here. he's funny and engages with students often. i love his handstand performances and they eased the tension that most feel in math classes. he teaches very well and will try to go over anything you have difficulty with. he is a kind-hearted and a great professor. i recommend!
This has been one of my favorite professors. The class consists of weekly assignments, weekly quizzes to make sure you're understanding, 3 exams. Provides study guide for everything. Also makes jokes and makes class super light. Calculus is not an easy subject, as long as you do the work you'll be more than prepared for class. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!
Let me make something clear, Professor Espina did not come to class high. Whoever wrote that was CAPPING BIGTIME and they was just salty about they grade or how they performed in the class. He did however keep mentioning about how he is training to do a handstand. Professor Espina is a genuine guy and an amazing, funny, and knowledgeable professor.
The comment saying he came to class high is absurd and untrue, very disrespectful. Whoever said that is a bum straight up. This professor is one of the best math professors in FIU and is someone who actually cares for his students, can't say that about professors or instructors in general nowadays. All I have to say is that you should TAKE HIM.
Super funny, always responds to emails about homework + offers further explanation on material if needed. The class is structured by the math department, so listen early on about how things work with regards to grades and stuff. Do the homework + study a bit for the tests and you're golden. Great class with a great professor, no complaints here.
He is a really nice & funny person, however I could never hear or understand what was happening because everyone was always talking over him, his class was sorta disorganized. His grading system was complicated, he uses 2 hw/class websites each with different grades, and he gives a lot of homework. He is a great guy but has a complex class.
Great guy! Makes class very interesting and goes out of his way to help you understand. Reassessments are a great way to catch up in class and he does everything in his power to allow you to succeed. Do yourself a favor and take this man!!!
Honestly the best math teacher I've ever had. He's great explaining the concepts, always answers questions, and goes out of his way to be available outside of class time. He even comes with jokes to lighten the mood. The class itself is a lot of work and not easy, but he gives a lot of chances to make up points lost in tests. Highly recommend.
Easily the best professor I have ever had. His homework is actually really useful for class and he gives out study guides for exams that are extremely helpful. Make sure to put in effort into studying and go to study sessions that he makes and you can pass this class. Plus, he is super funny.
Taking Espina for Calc was the best decision ever. He's such a caring professor and does everything he can for students to succeed. He has a youtube channel explaining homeworks, which come in handy when studying. I believe that no other professor cares as much. By far my favorite class, and that's coming from someone who hates math.
I love this professor with my entire heart. He made me love calculus and math in general, I lowkey wish I needed calculus 2 to have him again. You won't regret taking him TRUST ME. Such a funny teacher, always willing to help and he has the highest average of all calc teachers. Make sure to attend study sessions and do your work and you'll be good!
just RUN
no bueno
Great lessons, lots of work for a heavy class but it's necessary work to get the concepts down. Quiz are a lot but they mean less. Funny guy, relatable, and down to earth. Stay in class, don't fall behind, and listen to his lectures and videos online are all you need to pass his class. All the homework is answered on his YT so you can get it down.
Professor Espina has a YouTube channel where he goes over all of his assignments and explains each question, he also has a study session before each exam as well as giving study guides. He regularly gives extra credit during class. He gives so much supplementary material as well as extra credit that he makes you feel like you have to try to fail
This class is very hard to fail. All you have to do is go to class everyday. He gives great feedback
Proffesor Espina is hands down one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is always available and makes a great effort to help you pass your learning goals! A++ amazing !
take him! I literally suck at anything math related and taking precalc with Pedro saved my GPA! He really wants for all his students to pass! I fell really behind in his course and he opened up a lot of study rooms and office hours for me to catch up! Really down to earth professor!
Best math professor that you can have. As long as you put in the work you will understand the class. I will recommend him 100%.
If you fail, it's because you want to fail, all you have to do is show up to class and you can get a 60. Lots of extra credit chances and is by far the best calculus professor.
Professor Espina, cares about his students, and is super flexible with his office hours. Each lesson, he only goes over important concepts that are going to be on the exams. He has review sessions right before exams, and has zoom office hours if needed, on the weekend by appointment. If you show up to class, and put in the work, it's an easy A.
Awesome professor! He truly cares about your success and provides plenty of opportunities to not only review concepts but also retake exams to improve your grade and overall understanding. This professor makes math bearable and needs a pay raise. Take professor Espina's class!
W professor he's the best
Funny professor and has great perspectives on life. I did not pass his class but it was still enjoyable and a great learning experience.
Very considerate, gives great study guides and resources. No reason anybody should fail any of his classes because he makes it easy to learn
If you have a chance to take him, just take him. He is absolutely amazing and is the first math professor that I have ever liked in my life. He is so accessible after and before class and will meet with you any day. I will say, you have to focus and put in the work because math is not simple. Even if it comes to a point where you fail, he will help
something unique is i would drive to school without my seatbelt just so i wouldn't make it to his class.
great lectures where he regularly included the class in solving questions.he also makes full videos on his YouTube channel (of which he is very proud of) for every assignment your given in his class. He also hosted study sessions for every exam he had and multiple study sessions for the final. If i could give him a 5.3/5, i would.
My first male professor in uni, he is very funny and empathetic. If you dont like math, just take him, an amazing teacher, you'll not fail for whatever. Its really easy to get an A, trust meeeee.
Such a cool guy, wants his students to do well!
He LOVES chick-fil-a, that's one thing for sure. He's super chill and willing to help out all the students in his class. Goes above and beyond for his students by arranging extra hours for those who are in need or are not doing good in tests. Just show up, participate, and take the weekly tests and it's guaranteed to get good grades.
Professor Pedro Espina is an outstanding math educator known for their clear, engaging teaching style, and very funny and joyful professor. The passion for mathematics is contagious, inspiring students. Approachable and supportive, Professor goes the extra mile to ensure student success. Highly recommended.
He is very disorganised when it comes to finishing work on time. Obsessed! And I mean Obsessed with bitcoin. I think he talked more about bitcoin than about the actual exam we had the next day. Only take this class if you are math-savy or insane.
He is such a good professor! I took this class during the summer so it was pretty fast but as long as you pay attention in class, take good notes, and do the homework you should do great. He cares about his students and will not purposely fail anyone. If you fall behind he is there to pick you up and motivates/ pushes you to pass with a good grade.
He is the best. Go get him guys
He is the best math professor you will ever have. He genuinely cares about his students and will do anything to help them get a good grade. He is also hilarious and makes the classes fun to go to.
Best math professor I've taken on campus so far. He's great!! I recommend talking to him when confused after class or during office hours, he will make sure you understand!!! I would retake his class if I could. He's very funny and cares for his students and makes lectures very entertaining! Go get him guys:))
TAKE HIM!!
Take any other professor, exams are completely different from what he 'teaches'
He's a really funny dude. He would host review sessions before exams and that really helped. He is super easy to reach and you can tell he wants you to succeed.
He's a bit of an eccentric guy (as other people mentioned bitcoin and chickfila obsessed), but he's really funny and makes my least favorite subject one of my favorite classes. The class itself is kinda hard, but it's SO easy to pass, and he makes it easy to pass as long as you don't violate his "50% rule" of not showing up at least 50% of the time
Chill relaxed professor, makes math easy
very chill and funny professor, makes math fun
If you hav the chance to take him, take him. He is extremely understanding and is a super nice guy, he gives you every chance to pass and if you actually talk to him, it's clear he wants you to pass.I didn't fully understand the class but he really helped me at the end of the semester.Good guy who gets a bit side tracked sometimes but I recommend.
Amazing person and a solid teacher. If you can take his class TAKE IT. The work is sometimes tuff to understand but if you study youll be fine not too demanding. Very flexible and easy going always has your back one of the best truly.
Prof. Espina reinforced my weak Calc 1 background. He uses worksheets and group work instead of lectures, so you'll need to self-teach if your group isn't strong. He's helpful if you show effort in the class, if you skip, you'll have a hard time. He says (and I can confirm) his teaching style changed recently, so older reviews aren't too accurate.
Although he's funny, he's a weird professor. He says that people will understand better the content if he doesn't try to teach it😭Spoiler: That didn't work 100%.You gotta start teaching earlier and not HALFWAY THROUGH the semester. Guy is also a tough grader and has the worst grading system. BUT you can make up the learning goals & final.Good 🍀
Loved his class and I hate math, you have a test every other week with a retake in the weeks where you dont have a test. Super easy to pass his class as long as you try during class. I had a really good group so my opinion on this class is skewed but he is a really funny guy and is passionate about making sure students pass his class. take him
He was a very caring and funny professor, he never failed to make the class laugh. He often worked through the worksheets and problems due during class time. He wanted his students to succeed and he was willing to work with me. He is an easy grader with all of the exams being open response with partial credit.
this is my goat. the goat. impossible to fail. im so bad at math its hilarious. and i passed. if i didnt have him as a teacher i think id be in the trenches. take him hes a great teacher. like amazing. im putting all these periods to emphasize my point.
I really loved him! People say that he is a tough grader but from my understanding, the grading structure is the same for all pre calc professors. Super funny and chill. If you want a good experience in class, sit in the front. I promise you it makes a difference. Literally just a fun guy that does math and wants other people to learn. 10/10
