He takes participation once a week by having you do a class problem. He doesn't teach half the content that are on the homework assignments we do every week which makes it very difficult to understand the quizzes. It would be more helpful if the TA's went more in depth of our hw topics and exam topics instead of group quizzes that don't help.
Pedro is a nice guy who clearly understands math- he just doesn't know how to teach. His "lectures" consist of him doing 2 practice problems without really making sure people are following, and they never end up being on the homework which makes up most of the grade. You will end up teaching yourself the course content if you take this class.
He understands math and he cares about his students, but he just can't teach. He scribbles some problems on the board and tries to explain it badly, and it's usually way more complicated than it needs to be. His tests have almost nothing to do with the lectures or homework, but he is a fairly lenient grader. I would avoid him of you want to advance
Pedro is a fun teacher who cares about his students success in the course, too bad his teaching skills make it difficult. Class consists of reviewing the module from the night before and then practicing problems in class. He has midterms/finals & mini finals for the class which are confusing and make up the majority of your grade.
Pedro lacks the ability to affectively lecture. His lecture consists of reviewing simple problems. However, the homework, midterms, minifinals are much more difficult than the examples he gives. The previous midterm had nothing to do with the modules and the homework.
The mini finals include material that we haven't gone over, it counts for a grade and it's weighted the same as the midterm and final. For most of the quarter my grade was a high A, I had only done poorly on the mini final and once he added the weight it dropped to and low B. The midterms are riddle like word problems going over stuff not in the hw
Pedro is a very nice individual. He spends a lot of time lecturing and it is very clear he understands what he is talking about, as well as caring that the students learn. However, he is not a very good teacher. You will have to teach yourself a good amount in this course, and there is quite a bit of homework. With a bit of effort, you can pass.
Pedro is a very kind person and the concepts he explains in class are easily understood, they are just extremely simplified versions of what we are supposed to be learning. The tests that are weighted so heavily have nothing to do with the concepts we learn in class, and his minifinals are based on topics we have not even covered yet.
He teaches the basic concept of math but his tests are very different from what he teaches and difficult to understand because they are mostly word problems. Unless you can understand word problems really well don't take him!!!
Pedro seems like a really nice guy but his class is extremely frustrating. His minifinals have questions that we haven't learned yet so how are we supposed to answer them? His midterms are extremely difficult and he does a terrible job of preparing you for them. His lectures are hard to follow and the homework can't prepare you for tests.
Pedro often reminded our class that he "got paid whether or not we showed up and did well" and his attitude and respect for his students reflected just that. His tests HAD nothing to do with the homework, online quizzes or in class work. Extremely inaccessible outside of class and during class. If he is the only prof for a class, don't take it.
Pedro is a hard professor if you only try a little. He grades okay, he curves a lot even if you did not know the problem. Got B's on assignments but ended up getting a B plus as my grade... do not know how. No math is involved, even though he is a math professor. He is all conceptual, hard.
This class was very difficult. Pedro does teach you the topics but in terms of helping you in the class, it's really for nothing. Tests and homeworks are very difficult and whatever you learned in the class can't really be applied. It's all conceptual rather than actually plugging in numbers. Take 11A with someone else.
Morales was not a good teacher. Lecture was useless as nothing he talked about helped on homework, midterms or finals. He is a lenient grader though and gives you many points even if you don't get the answer right. He also gives you a percentage boost at the end of the quarter if you went to MSI, finished assignments on time and showed improvement.
Morales is a fantastic teacher. Instead of focusing on memorization, he teaches conceptually. Most people hate the class because they do not like conceptual mathematics, they want tons of numbers etc instead of a logistic model. His lectures are interesting. His exams are conceptual, but not hard. He gives alot of partial credit, and boost at end
The exams only had two to three questions with around five parts built upon the question. Exams were very conceptual as you would still receive partial credit for the work trying to get the answer. The mini-finals were weighted the same as the exams and had some questions that we hadn't gone over. Gives you extra points for showing up to MSI, SGT.
Pedro is not the best professor, but his class is easy if you can finesse it. There's mini midterms, mini finals, a project, and a final. For the midterms, don't study anything. Just write as much as you can about the problem. For mini finals the problems are easier than HW. The final is a combo of both. DO THE HW for easy points.
Pedro's canvas modules did most of the teaching load and then he would do more examples in lecture to build on it. His exams were kinda dumb though, the homework was all "solve" or "differentiate" which was really easy and then the midterms were more theoretical and it was hard because we didn't practice thinking in that way at all.
His lectures were mostly useless, so stick to the modules and learning through the homework. Unfortunately, finals and midterms differ greatly from the homework. Your best bet is to show all your work on them, as you get a decent amount of partial credit from that alone. Do that and your homework, and you'll pass, but no thanks to Pedro.
His modules were really helpful in keeping us accountable in learning the material, and his tests weren't bad at all if you did your modules and understood how to apply the material. His grading scale was really great and evenly weighted (not dependent on a few tests). I am absolutely trash at math but Pedro helped me learn so much.
Really good with getting material on an easy to understand basis and moves at a reasonable speed. Plus lots of assignments dropped to makeup for absences
This class was a lot of work but get to know the professor and you will be ok. There are quizzes once a week, a group project, in class quiz once a week, and a survey everyday after class on top of the weekly homework. You have to study to get an A, read your book, do the examples. The tests are based off of the hw and in class quizzes.
Many of Pedro's negative reviews were for calculus, so maybe he is not the same quality teacher in that class. In number theory however, he is clearly passionate about his subject, gives excellent examples, and is funny on top of it. He does a fantastic job boiling down complex concepts to understandable chunks. Would recommend 100%.
I don't understand all the criticism Pedro gets from. He's very passionate about the subject he teaches and he's a good professor. His lectures are more theoretical, and he's great at explaining the concepts, but it requires you to do the work for it to be clear. He's an easy grader he cares about his students, he just has high expectations.
Pretty nice teacher, very theoretical lectures, and homework helped my understanding of the subject. However, the midterms and final were extremely unreasonable in my opinion. None of the problems on the homework are close to the difficulty of problems on exams. There is generous partial credit but these tests are the hardest I have ever taken here
This is the kind of class where you actually need to learn to do well. The material in the class isn't hard and the homework isn't terrible. The tests were pretty challenging though, they're nothing like the hw or lectures, but Pedro is really good about partial credit.
Pedro is one of the best professors I've had here at UCSC. His lectures are amazing, and he makes complex topics easy to understand. We did have a book report which was pretty dumb, but he's a really cool dude and fair grader. The tests were a good mix of fair and challenging, would definitely recommend taking Number Theory with him.
Great professor. UCSC needs to hire more Pedros. His teaching style is unlike any math professor at UCSC. He has us work in groups once a week on problems which was a Great way to get us to talk math with other students. He is funny and lectures are great. He is helpful and had us Read a book and do a book. Great reading, report was reasonable
So I see a lot of people saying that Morales wasn't a good teacher, but for 19B, I thought he was one of the best teachers I had. Before every class, you have to do a module on Canvas but those don't take long at all. His tests were actually pretty easy. He goes over everything that's on the exams, and as long as you just do your work, you're fine.
Taught a simplified Calc 2 class. Topics felt skipped and nothing was covered too in depth. Lecture time was utilized poorly and examples were weak. The real learning was from the homework and section which seems backwards. An alright class but way to simplistic for the 19 series.
He's a good dude. Lectures are a bit tough to get through (but come on, it's a math class). Gives tons of partial credit on exams. If you actually do the homework you should be fine in the class.
By far the worst math professor ive ever had. The homework has nothing to do with anything he ever teaches in class. Homework includes math far above the level of the class. (needing to use derivatives in precalc) When i confronted Pedro about this he lied to me and said all the information needed was in the lecture. Expect 15+ hours per homework.
There are a lot of readings outside of the book, he wants you to do "pre-lecture" assignments which are readings before lecture. The exams however are very conceptional and do not expect you to compute everything. Easiest exams I have taken and the class I felt the most confidence in.
By far the WORST professor I've encountered in college. His lack of respect and interest in his students and their success in his class is way too obvious and his grading scale is completely arbitrary. Also his "mini finals" are terribly explained (how to study for them, their purpose, etc.) and end up counting for a decent portion of your grade.
Pedro was an okay lecturer, but the modules on Canvas he would lecture about are very simple compared to the homework (due every night). Homework is due once a week and takes 3-5 hours in my case. There are two midterms, a project, and a final. The exams are only graphs as seen in the section exercises. Pay attention in section the most!!!
I took pedro for both MATH 110 and 24 in Winter 2019. Class structure was WEIRD. He made us write a paper on a book in number theory. In. number. theory. Also I caught on to how his grading made no sense very quickly. If you just word vomit on your paper on his exams you will get at LEAST a B. His lectures in 24 were godawful, in 110 were ok...
Pedro is only the fourth math professor I've had at this school but he set the bar high going forward. His lectures are conceptual as are his tests so I get that maybe who have a harder time understanding the material would rate him low but he is my favorite professor I've had in college. He really cares and everything he teaches has a purpose.
He's good at explaining things in a way that makes them easy to understand (he can sometimes make it confusing tho), but imo he tends to make classes too easy. While I do get concepts from the classes I've had with him, I'm not sure how prepared I am for future math classes. I won't say avoid him, but its not very math heavy for a math class.
Pedro is a reasonable professor. His class was never too challenging but always forced us to learn. I would take him again.
A math class where the lectures are actually bearable, could be worth it to go to class. The homework was something that you had to spend quite a bit of time on, but Pedro was extremely lenient and dropped the lowest grades for almost every category. Midterms and final were hard, but TONS of partial credit. I also took him for 19B, great guy
It's a calculus class, so don't expect to succeed if you don't put an effort into understanding the material-Especially for Pedro. He tests your conceptual understanding of the material on exams and on group projects. Use outside resources: professor leonard, organic chemistry tutor, etc. take good notes, make flashcards and use your noodle.
Pedro emphasizes "conceptual" but doesn't really explain WHAT conceptual is. His modules (that have readings and quizzes) have no examples, only formulas. I learn with examples and explanation - both of which were severely lacking. Good things: He is laidback and extends homework, lots of partial credit with exams, etc. Exams are like AP tests.
Of all the professors stuck with the more difficult, large introductory math courses, Pedro is by far the best to have. It's a math course so it won't be easy, and you MUST do the homework and attend most lectures if you want a good grade, and that just how it be. Go and cry if that bothers you, but it's college mathematics
Class is very well-balanced between homework, pre-class, in-class, exams and projects. Nothing is weighted too heavy. The lectures are very clear and provide most of the learning. Really understanding when you put in a good amount of effort in the class.
At the beginning everyone was mean to him because he taught very conceptually with no examples. The second half he listened to us and gave good examples. He dropped low grades for assignments. For our final, he dropped it if it lowered your grade. He was helpful during office hours. Caring professor, not sure how much I learned though.
The textbook he told us to use was really confusing, but he himself was really good at explaining stuff during lecture. He is also really forgiving when grading (allows you to drop a lot of stuff and pretty easy grading on tests) and just a nice guy in general, which made learning through zoom pretty bearable.
Pedro Morales is such a great professor, truly cares about his students. They are very lenient about grades and exams. He is one of the nicest professors at UCSC. The lectures are very conceptual because he wants you to truly understand the materials.
Lectures get straight to the point. Might feel like he gives out a lot of work, but most of it is pretty easy to do. Very caring and understanding towards his students.
He takes care of every student. He gave every student 24 hours to submit midterms and final and make the final optional due to the hard situation of COVID-19. He will drop 9 lowest scores and tries to make every student get a higher grade. Pay attention to every class and finish homework, then you can get the grade you want.
the best thing i can say about pedro is that thanks to him, i understand math
Pedro is one of the best professors at UCSC, he genuinely wants students to learn and understand the material, he's truly caring and understanding towards students. He drops a portion of lowest scores, gives partial credit for work on exams, and gives a little extra credit boost based on effort and performance during the course.
Professor Morales is one of the best professors at UCSC. He really cares about his students and gives a lot of extra credits. During this difficult time, he made it easier for us students by dropping many assignments, and even giving an optional final. There was even a 10% boost at the end of the quarter!
It is known by 90%+ of the class that this professor is a true gem. Not only does he asks you to do a Wellness survey each class (where you click how much you slept, how you feel, etc.), he also lets you make class memes and showcases it on Fridays. Top ones get extra credit. It is easy to score points, homework and exams are super lenient.
He disperses the grade percentage through a lot of work so you can easily get your grade up. For the midterm and final exam on edifinity as well as gradescope, he grants you 24 hours to complete the exam and for gradescope he allows us to work in groups. He genuinely cares and asks us to fill out a general survey for lecture participation
He is the most great math professor i have in UCSC. He explains well on the concepts and his class focused on the understanding of the material. Midterm and final are related his material. His discussion material is also helpful and interesting. You wont be regret taking his math course.
Pretty solid professor, during his midterms/tests, you could take them anytime during the day which was really nice. Homework took time but helped reinforce the concepts, and he genuinely cared about each student and would answer questions thoughtfully.
Pedro made vector calculus really fun! I felt like I learned so much. I would definitely take it again.
(11A) Super caring and understanding. Gives lots of little easy assignments, but nothing is high stakes and worth many points, even the midterms and final arent worth hefty amounts of points. Very caring about his students well being, very patient, and presents math as very unthreatening. Would 100% take again, the best math prof I've ever had!!
He is literally one of the best professors at UCSC. If you can take any math class with him, please do so. His tests are group tests and so are the final and midterms. His lectures are fun to attend and he has weekly meme contests. Literally made my freshman year so happy.
Professor Morales is one of the best professors at UCSC. He is such a great lecturer! He truly cares about his students. He is kind and makes concepts super easy to understand. This class was so much fun.
This guy teaches okay but the amount of busywork he assigns is relentless. It's absolutely horrible and is completely disproportional to the amount of material he teaches in a given week. You honestly have to keep up with the work too because the tests aren't worth very much at all. Will make you do group projects over online class.
Took him for fall of 2019, he was really understanding especially for an 8am class. He would have us do a survey before class to see how we are doing and would have us submit memes (top 3 got extra credit). This class was great. Although his lectures can lose some of us, there are people ready to help.
Overall was very solid professor, however, the volume of homework was a little high and grading guidelines can be obscure. I hope this makes sense.
I was annoyed at first at how much work there is to do, such as pre-class, during class, and post class work. However, it has helped me tons in understanding everything. Pedro is very nice and will help you with anything, so I would recommend office hours. Many opportunities to get your grade up, so just try to get through the homework.
I took him for fall 21, for math 3 (Precalc). I already had taken pre-calc in high school, and it was one of the main reasons that helped me pass this class. I didn't really like his lectures or his way of teaching, he sometimes shows examples and sometimes he doesn't. I relied a lot on youtube so and self-learning.
There is one homework assignment per week and he has "modules" on canvas where you get most of your notes. If you don't like reading math good luck with those. He clarifies a lot, but not everything, in lecture and does examples. The exam questions are easier than the homework. He's really nice and seems to care about students and their questions.
Great professor, explains everything very clearly. A manageable amount of homework, with each test having a group section. The seminar part was kind of unorganized but overall ok. I recommend joining a discord or other gc for this class.
a lot of tedious work but if you do it its an overall easy class
He assigns a massive amount of busy work
Professor Morales genuinely cares for the success of his students. Although he assigns pre-class, post-class, and in-class assignments, extra credit is built into your grade. A bit tedious but very manageable. Attend his lectures. If you're struggling, reach out to him or sign up for ACE/MSI. The midterms and final aren't bad if you study.
I found his lectures unhelpful and he wasn't very good at offering advice in office hours.
Buckle up, this class can get pretty wild! Make sure you have a group of friends you can pair up for group projects, study for tests, etc (collab is vital for this class!) Pedro is a good teacher, although he sometimes skips over more complex math concepts that need more explaining. But he is ace-able! I'm AWFUL at math and I still got out ok!
Pedro assigns a lot of pointless busy work all with random due dates. Oftentimes lectures will just be reviewing one of his confusing examples. But overall if you try and actually do the work and study you should be able to pass.
He is a very good grader. Lots of bonus and extra credit. Homeworks are easy. I messed up my grade by 1 point after the boost. I just need one more point in any place to get an A. But A- is fine.
Doesn't teach anything that's on the hw or tests in the lecture. Literally was so lost all quarter. You'll get a good grade if you cheat. No way to pass without cheating. I promise you that. If you get 100% on all the hw, discussions, and lecture quizzes, the midterm and final won't matter as much. That's the only way to pass...
MY GOAT
Stay on top of all your assignments. As long as you do the pre, and post-lecture assignments, and turn in section assignments you'll be good. Focus on the two main projects. If you don't do well on the tests don't freak out there's a massive curve. I had a B before the final but with the curve I ended the class with an A-
I think he did a good job of explaining the concepts, calc is hard to understand no matter who the professor is. When I would talk to him outside of class he was friendly & approachable. Homework is actually way harder than the tests, and you got infinite tries. The tests were mostly pretty easy except a few curveballs. Me and my friends liked him.
His lectures are alright but his tests are just a few multiple choice and usually four free responses that are worth 25 points, so if you miss a single question you're down to a 75%. Homework is on EdFinity and is pretty challenging but EdFinity will show you how to work out the homework (or give you the answers if you have the subscription).
W professor. He canceled our final due to strikes and his grading system is more than fair. Make sure to really. understand the concepts for tests and projects though.
He tries to prepare students for the exams and offers a lot of office hours. The exams are pretty easy compared to what is done in class and on homework. The homework was online on EdFinity, which offered a lot of help for a $3 extra subscription.
Pedro was good. Grades are heavily weighted on homework rather than tests which helped me a lot. He focused more on concepts than computing which was difficult for me to understand. As a visual learner, you may have difficulty because his modules were all reading. However, homework was very manageable and he is good at explaining in lectures.
i thought he was a pretty good calc teacher. his teaching is very theoretical and not straight forward math but it helped me understand better and I suck at math. there are weekly quizzes, 2 midterms, final, and 2 project and soooooo much extra credit. the homework is on edfinity (25$) u can get around it v easily... ;)
Pretty engaging lectures, he explains things well and is very accessible. Group projects were difficult to understand at first but he gives a lot of resources to help you. Lots of small assignments that add up, so make sure to do the homework. There's no extra credit but he also drops a lot of lowest grades in several assignment categories.
Where he lacks in pre lecture readings, he really picks it up in actual lectures in class. He tries to explain the conceptual side more, which really helps students who struggle with Math like me. I always ask, why is this or is that in math? And it seems that every lecture, I come out refreshed and actually motivated to do the homework.
Pedro is a great lecturer, if you struggle with the pre-questions, he will go over them and explain them in lecture. He gives partcial credit for the midterms and final which is very helpful. I would recommend going to tutoring to understand it more if you plan on taking other calc classes.
he slayed what else is there to say. reasonable grader, it's genuinely hard to get anything other than an A, just do the work istg
This guy is friggin great. He makes the class very accessible, no matter what he is teaching, and he seems like he really cares. If you suck at math there are ways to make up for it in his class, and he is supper forgiving on late work. If you are a crummy student you will not like him. Only hitch is that he goes through content pretty fast.
Pedro had a very organized class with clear grading and deadlines. We had hw every week that was harder than the stuff we did in class and on tests. We could use two cheat sheets for the midterms and final. He was good at explaining concepts and answering questions during lecture. Ace tutoring helped a lot, Miguel is the best! 9am was def too early
i dont like the assignments he gives. group project (easy to do by yourself if you want) is pretty useless. homework more difficult than exams. pre-lectures due every other day. section super uninspiring (and mandatory) & my ta seemed like he didnt like the professor. didnt attend class and ended with an a-, easy pass just do everything he asks.
Everyone I've talked to has been a fan. Lectures can be a bit tricky when introducing new topics, would recommend trying to find friends in the class to work on homework with.
Pedro was great! He taught well and slow, using examples and made sure that everyone understood. He allowed notes on tests and it was relatively easy to succeed.
Super theoretical, his canvas modules that are a textbook substitute are horrendous and vague. DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN FOR 19A unless you want to be sliced in half like my glorious blue eyed prince.
Attending the lectures really made me understand the content of the class, keeping up with readings and assignments is essential, overall he is charismatic and makes you want to continue learning
Pedro is a good teacher and very understanding, but I wouldn't recommend this class if you have no calculus experience. Modules can be confusing, lectures are theoretical. You can definitely make it work but be prepared to put in additional work(ACE, LSS, office hrs). Heavy on homework which helped and had a project instead of 2nd midterm
He's a really nice person and does genuinely try, but I found he wasn't good at covering new topics. Great for reviewing Calc that I had done in high school, but the second he tried to teach something I hadn't learned before, it would just never click for me. The lectures don't have great examples, the homework isn't reflective of the tests, etc
Professor Morales is a great professor that is really good at engaging the class. During the large lectures, he regularly calls on people by first name and explains concepts super thoroughly. The preclass modules are a little boring and confusing at times however he makes up for it by being super engaging and kind.
Pedro Morales is great! He has super engaging lectures and really cares about students. Most of your grade will come from projects and homework. The midterm and final only added up to about 30% of the grade for 19B so its super easy to predict what grade you will get. He allows cheat sheets and gives tons of time to complete his tests.
Perhaps one of my favorite math teachers ive had, he keep lectures fun and engaging, all while communicating the material very effectively. Understood concepts that I had never thought I would be able to. If you put in the work, you will pass the class just fine
Best professor I've had so far. Perhaps it's because it was one of my first beginner math courses but he made 19A very easy to understand. Lectures were actually useful, and even if you didn't catch onto something, TA and tutor sections would always be in review mode. Definitely recommend him no matter what class you're taking.
I already took a calculus class in high school but had to take it again for college. I knew a lot of the material but he was very funny and explained the material well in my opinion
Pedro is a great teacher and willing to answer any questions you have. However, at the same time, his two exams (midterm and final) will CLAP. YOUR. SHIT. Whenever there's an exam coming up, make sure you study as much as possible, as he CAN and WILL throw you for a complete loop. Also, show up to discussions. My grade's like this because I slept.
Highly recommend taking this class with Pedro. Midterm and final were difficult but even if you don't do super well on them if you've done all the rest of the work you can still get a good grade in this class. He explains things really well and makes you feel welcome in an intimidating subject. Section is mandatory.
I already knew most of the content that is in this course so it was easy for me, but the way he teaches things is easy to understand so even difficult concepts are made easy. The tests are pretty hard but as long as you expect applications (which he makes well known will be on the test) you should be fine.
Engaging lectures and accessible professor. Recommend using resources like Unstuck study along with office hours to get a solid grasp on concepts. Homework-heavy but manageable if you stay on top of it.
Prof Morales is awesome, he makes calculus very digestible. Section is mandatory, hope you get a good TA. I'm taking MATH 19B w/ him also. If you put in the effort you will pass this class. He really cares about his students and you can tell. He knew many of us by name at the end of the quarter. Would highly recommend.
choose happiness, don't do this to yourself.
This guy is genuinely a great professor. I had some AP Calc AB knowledge which helped me a bit. He genuinely cares, and explains things very well. As long as you keep up with all the pre lecture assignments and do those thouroughly it helps alot. I highly recommend his class if your willing to put a bit more time into it. Midterms are theory heavy.
Prof. Morales the goat. Just do hw, and come to lectures for good practice problems for midterm and final. Good lectures. Very helpful during office hours.
Engaging, enjoyable, & a bit funny. Preclass modules are comprehensive & incredible; you don't need to attend lectures because of them. HW helps you reinforce learned topics. Section activity experience varies on what day you have it & what you know. Only issue was some problems were so complex that even the TAs couldn't solve them. Solid prof!
He's a very good speaker and he definitely cares about the students. I hadn't taken the class before with him (MATH 19A) and he referenced it a lot so I was pretty confused. Overall, there are much worse math professors at UCSC and Pedro is a very good option if you are required to take MATH 19B.
Prof Morales is just great. His 19A really improves his 19B course however he still lays things out clearly. Excellent lecturer and just cares a lot. Take the 19 series with him if you can. Just hope your TA doesn't suck because sections are mandatory.
Pedro i love you. I have always been a "not stem kid", and bad at math, expecting to get a c in this class. You can do anything you set your mind to with Pedro. Pedro you're the goat. He's so kind to his students and very obviously passionate about the subject. Also gives so much extra credit and buffer room to get an A. Genuinely my goat
Took him for 19A in the fall—he's genuinely cool. When a tough midterm question tripped everyone up, he let us explain our solutions afterward to recoup marks. Lectures were engaging and fun. Study the topics he explains after class and attend class, and you're practically guaranteed an A.
One of the best professors within the Math Department.
His lectures were super theoretical. He'd use examples, but they'd only teach very specific scenarios, and he'd explain them using theory so that you could never apply what you learned anywhere else. The projects were also completely different from the material covered in class.
Just overall a great professor. Real ones know that if you put your mind to it, you're guaranteed an A.
19B winter 25. His lectures made calc 2 concepts seem extremely intuitive, and grading is really generous. Not exam heavy at all and lots of extra credit. Exams themselves are straightforward and don't have any curveballs
Pedro is the fuc**g goat. He made Math 100 actually enjoyable, and his lectures are super entertaining. The class weight added up to 105% which made it easier to get a better grade. Still waiting to take to the final, but overall highly recommend. Homework was lengthy, but it was expected. Would take another class with him again.
Great guy, really made the class enjoyable and the math approachable. I really liked what we covered proofs and it's great foundation for higher math classes in the future! He is really reassuring and understanding too. The worksheets in class were great group practice as they basically guide you through proofs that would be pretty hard alone.
Definitely a top 5 professor I've had at UCSC. Lectures are formatted well and are very engaging. However, there are a ton of random and kind of easy-to-forget-about assignments that are due randomly throughout the class- so be on top of that.
Amazing teacher. Made lecture super fun. Really went above and beyond. Was accessible before, during, and after class. Really cares about his students. Grading is weird. There are a few tedious writing assignments. Covered and tested on material outside the scope of the course. You have to learn from examples in class.
