teacher very helpful and loves her subject! She also has a great attitude.
Ms. Michalek is a great teacher!! I look forward to coming to class!!
She's nice but didn't show very much control over the class which often caused classtime to be wasted by stupid questions and pointless conversations. When the final came there were still 2 chapters we hadn't gone over but we were tested on them anyway.
Awful teacher. Did not prepare us for final. Had the knowledge of subject ,but could not teach it!!
She's helpful and gives final review worksheets from previous finals, gives lots of notes to copy, very approchable, but goes over the material really fast.
avrage teacher she knows alot but dosent seem to reach all students. goes over things very quickly, funny conversations about how much she loves karate but she blinks alot its kinda weird
Did not cover everything in the book which is on the final. Did not have a handle on the class. Wasted time with unrelated subject topics.
Peggy is the worst teacher I have ever had! I definitely recommend stearing clear of any of her classes!!!
Peggy is a very nice person, but she goes way too fast. Each class was her franticly doing problem after problem on the board, but never really teaching us the what and why of the topic. I spent a lot of time at home with my husband teaching me the little rules and tricks. Without him I would not have gotten a very good grade.
She was really fun teacher. Before taking her class I was afraid of math. After taking her class she showed that learning math depends on teacher. With teacher like her math is fun and easy! She is helpful and very nice if you respect her and do not talk in the class!
She was not a good fit for me and a lot of other studnets in the class she would give pop quizes and group assingments when she noticed there were a lot of people absent.I HAD to get a tutor and HAD to study for hours just to get a good understanding what was going on in the class.Way to FAST! She would often get OFF TOPIC for what seemed for EVER
Hard class. She's a bit scatterbrained. It lightens up the class. She allows you to work with others in class on in class work. This was incredibly helpful. She'll take the time to teach what you need if you ask her. But, you have to help focus her on what you need. Once you learn that, then she's wonderful. But, I still had to study really hard
Worst teacher ever! Not only were her teaching methods random and confusing, she was a complete B**ch when you asked her to help/clarify. Took attendance and random pop quizzes on days when she noticed most people were absent. Final had very little relation to topics covered in class. Stay Away!
I learned alot in this class. Peggy was very clear and stayed on-topic. She always listed out how to solve a problem step-by-step, which I found VERY helpful. She had regular group work and was flexible in grading. Tests were easier than the actual practice problems for them. She doesn't require homework. She bought us pizza at the end of class.
Good teacher. Often reiterated exactly what was in the book but explained concepts w/ problems (which was helpful). Still not sold on idea of group work, tho it *was* nice to meet classmates. Very accomodating w/ class work if you give her notice. Biggest gripe is she never asked if anyone had questions about recommended problems.
I thought she was a great teacher who did a lot of examples and spent time re-explaining some material as needed.

I would take this class. It was easy, and it didn't make me want to die everyday I was in it...unlike many other math classes.
This is the worst teacher I've had thus far at BCC. It was boring and I felt like I learned nothing from her. I could have never gone to class and gotten the same grade as long as I showed up on test days. I thought the point of going to college was to learn, her class made me question that.
No explanation. Goes through the problems with out giving reasons why to do something, just thats how its done. I think over half the class failed the first quiz!
She rushes though everything. No explanations on any of the problems. If you take her classes and have a question, don't raise your hand just yell her name
I took a low level math class from her, but I felt like she was helpful. My midterm grade was a C- even though I aced every test, and I talked to her about it, saying that perhaps I forgot to turn in some homeworks, and without questioning me, she wrote in 100's for all the 0's on the spot. I had an A plus. So She is def. willing to work with you.
she didnt really explain things very well altough she was very nice. I was recommended her but alas i didnt not find her very recommendable
She is the best instructor for low level math, she takes the time to explain everything, maybe too much time! She is always willing to help when you ask for it!!
Michalek is very accomodating, agreeable, and will always help out a student in need, whether you were unable to attend a test day, or lost your calculator; she is very funny. And has a voice a bit like a cartoon character! She can sometimes work at a fast pace. Must sit in the front row, and not carry on personal conversations while she instructs.
she is fun teacher. Make sure do her recommend problem but she gives hard quizes.
Peggy seems a little wacky, but she makes class fun. She definitely takes the time to help out students who need help (as long as you are trying).
Peggy was by far the best math teacher I have had. Since her class I have taken two more math classes and her class prepared me for both. She's not good with the student harassment and interpersonal comm but I enjoyed the class a lot. I had to spend extra time in math lab & do lots of recommended problems to keep up but I got an A.
I have heard that she teaches lower level math well. Not really the case for higher math classes. She seems to rushed when teaching. She is an easy grader but i dont feel like i learned as much as i should have. Fun personality.
I did not enjoy this class at all. It was also one of the most note heavy classes I have ever taken. She does not fully answer questions, and is extremely soft spoken. I was frustrated by the lack of backbone this teacher possessed. She could not control the class, which made for a lax. learning environment. She also told the worst jokes ever!
Peggy is a really funny teacher, and I learned a lot in her class, too. She does have kinda a weird sense of humor, but that made the class way more interesting. She teaches math very clearly and doesn't give very much homework. If you aren't afraid of a wacky personality, I would definitely recommend her for this class.
She can kind of be strange (which can make a lot of people not like her) and a bit confusing at times with her explaning, but she's always having a good time and it is refreshing. If you ask questions, she will always help. Peggy is a great teacher.
I wont take her class again. She doesn't explain things thoroughly. Her sense of humor is very distracting. She is very rushed all the time and this is also distracting. She likes to have lots of group activities for math assignments in class. She tries too hard to make it fun.
doesnt know how to teach and extremely unclear. tells horrible jokes and thinks she is hilarious. the only reason i got a good grade is cuz im good at math and practically taught myself. dont take this class.
Peggy is a very nice lady but i dont think that she should be teaching math 098 because she goes to fast i think that she is use to teaching higher level math classes. she is very soft spoken and cannot seem to keep the class quite for more that 3 seconds. i would not recommend this class for any one that has trouble with math.
She doesn't know how to directly answer a question. She doesn't do much explaining, just puts questions up and solves them.
Wow she might just be the worst "teacher" i've ever had. She needs to focus more on math and less on jokes, her jokes are horrible btw. I once asked her a legitimate question and she accused me of disrespecting her and talked to me after class. She is a nice lady but she is pretty incompetent as a teacher.
Probably the worst teacher I've had. bad jokes and a ton of excuses for things like getting answers wrong or not having materials. I basically taught myself from the textbook, devoted the most time to this class trying to understand things on my own. she's nice, but not good at teaching. scatterbrained. be prepared to learn independently...
Peggy is very nice and helpful, if you have problems in this class it is because you are not ready for college.
Peggy, though sweet, should not be teaching any type of class. She cannot and will not answer questions directly, she repeats every word she says atleast 3 times, blinks so much its distracting and wont problem solve. The online tutoring idea was a joke no one in the class could even log in. She needs to work on her teaching skills. She is lacking.
Do the homework and you will pass the tests she gives. Drops worst quiz and exam. Unfortunately she teaches the class at the lowest learner. This made us behind two chapters when it was time for the final...
Just because you know Math, doesn't mean you should be teaching. No style, unless you count confused, inefficient, rushed, incomplete, lack of leadership, and repeating the book, verbatim. Half the time she could not recall what we did the last time in class. Takes everything personally, and punishes those absent with pop quizes, group work, etc :(
she wasn't that bad of a teacher; sometimes it was just hard to understand what she was saying because she's very soft spoken. except for the last week of school, i didn't have a problem. but when finals rolled around, she was so irritated with our class that she barely gave us a review.
She has lost it totally rude and can not be asked for any information, says she is trying to be like a full timer(teacher)I think she should just try to teach...
She isn't a bad math teacher. She is goofy like all the science Profs. I think she does a great job with going over work and reviewing, she told us exactly what the problems were asking for on most the tests and examples of them from book. she also curved my classes tests which is strange for math teachers. i liked her, you just might get bored.
Peggy is a nice person and is willing to help outside of class, but that doesn't mean she should be teaching Math 99.The class felt rushed, especially towards the end (the class was behind several chapters up to finals).Homework is not mandatory, which makes it easy not to do. I felt like the class was self-taught a lot of the time. The book sucked.
She's not the worst, but she's far from the best. Often thinks the work SHE did on the board is wrong. Does not command the class well, and always thinks people are talking about her (very insecure). Though she is nice enough, I would not recommend this professor, she is hard to follow and a bit annoying.
She answers lot of problem, from Recommented homework. She's absent, throughout the quarter. She alway show up on time, she has prepare to teach she's even bring every thing that needed in class like extra paper, calculator...
do NOT take her!!!! she is never in class and we didn't corver the last 2chapters and it was on the final. i'm telling you don't not take her i'm a 4 point student i've never seen a teacher like her. i'm not a lazzzzyyy stude but she is a HOT mess. i repit DO NOT TAKE HER
THIS WOMAN IS OBLIVIOUS TO LIFE!!!!! SHE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN THIS WORLD WE CALL EARTH!
This teacher is very spacey and constantly makes jokes that are only funny to her. Asking for help will get you no where unless its on her "agenda". I'd recommend NOT taking this teacher. Her lectures are boring and she doesn't teach the subject well.
Super easy. No homework, tons of group work and quizzes. Tons of extra credit. However if you want to get a good grade, have some previous knowledge in the subject matter.
She is very rude when you ask her for help she gets angry. Her teaching style is horrible and She does not know how to talk to people. DO NOT TAKE HER FOR ANY MATH!
Not very helpful at all! Doesn't not explain things well, then when you ask questions, she gets mad. No homework, no quizes, hardly any in class work. You basically get all your points from tests, and you have to hope you do well, even though your getting tested on stuff you don't understand. DO NOT TAKE HER!!!
Peggy lacks SERIOUS interest in her teaching, she is NOT available for help, and it seems as if she knows nothing of what she is teaching. She has many health problems which she talks about in class instead of teaching any sort of lecture. My math skills suffered in this class.
TONS of daily HOMEWORK. Class structure was computer-based with teacher there, but no formal lecture. Peggy was spacey, but she did go through the problems if requested. Go for a lecture-based class if it has been awhile since you've taken math. She was OK, but I won't take her again.
Peggy gives tons of extra credit. She will answer lots of questions, which causes us to fall behind the syllubus schedule, causing a mad rush to finish at the end of the quarter. Not too hard to get a good grade but you won't be prepared for the next class. Not the worst choice, but there's better choises.
Peggy is very moody. If she likes you, you will do okay. If she doesn't you are toast. She takes revenge on students that cross her. She gives lots of extra credit but then the final includes sections in the book that weren't covered in the class. keep track of every assignment you turn into her as she loses stuff. Very, very moody!
I had her summer qtr. for 098.She can be nice but her mood swings can affect the classroom experience. she cracks weird jokes, wastes precious time talking about stuff unrelated to math. every quiz was extra credit. that was good, but she talked so fast it was hard at times to keep up. Not the worst choice at BC but if you can do so choose another
i just had her for 098. very moody. spacey and difficult to talk to.lots of health problems, she was sick 3 days and the class fell way behind, only to have her talking 10 miles a minute in an attempt to catch up. I'd pass her up and go with someone great like susan gronlund, or mausumi maulik.
total space cadet, lots of strange jokes, always talking about things unrelated to mathematics, like her health problems. she constantly was mixing the class up with her other four classes, giving homework assignments from parts of the text we hadn't covered yet. she seemed to favor female students over male students. flaky!
I hear there's a national shortage of good math teachers. This could partially explain why BCC still allows Peggy Michalek to be in charge of a real college-level math class. Avoid her like the plague.
had her for the computer-textbook class. she was always forgetting stuff, always behind. Endless excuses about why we were so far behind. She got so far behind we never finished and werent ready the departmental final. she did offer a generous amount of extra credit but not enough to make up for her numerous shortcomings.
Run while you can!
WORST TEACHER EVER!! Shez an embarrassment to the college!
She was very helpful and worked on problems with me after class. Some students in the class were rude and dsrespectfl. She answered a lot of questions in class, even from unprepared and dsrespectfl students.
She explained the math well and met with me after class to go over prblems.
3rd week of class and we're already behind on the schedule. I hear this is common with this instructor. she's very insecure and that leads to ongoing problems in the classroom. Another teacher told us she was scolded by the math dept. for sloppy teaching. I will say more after the class is over. See if she is now okay or not okay.
Not the worst but u can do so much better. her insecurities and odd behavior get in the way of teaching math. Gronlund or Maulik are much better choices for 098.
nice enough but very insecure. Don't laugh at her strange jokes, be very polite or she will turn on you. keep track of your papers as she loses stuff all the time. Otherwise, shez okay.
If you need extra credit galore and are struggling to pass algebra, take Peggy. But if you really need to learn it for a higher math class, don't take her as her lack of overall competency gets in the way. I agree with other reviewers about her personality problems in the classroom, that they tend to cloud her ability to reach her students.
Let the computer teach the class
She is a fine teacher. I don't agree with the most of comment. Everyone have their own personality, people shouldn't pick her like that. She is trying to be nice, just don't know what is the best way. She gave reasonable extra credit and if you come to class fallow her recommend problem for every chapter. You will pretty much get a good grade.
Horrible! She is rude, and treats students like 5 yr olds. Works way too fast, and gets frustrated when students ask questions.
a little bit flaky but otherwise easy enough to along wit her. she tends to be forgetful so keep track of your papers. appears a bit overworked.
Weird and disorganized. She needs to improve her classroom management skills as she allows for too many questions and then falls way behind the schedule. Why can't Bellevue College get any better math teachers?
No extra credit, just lots of problems. Forgetful, disorganized, with more tangents than you can keep track of. As the quarter progresses, we fell farther and farther behind, which left us unprepared for the departmental final.
Disorganized and disrespectful. She treated students like children, took way too many questions which put her way behind schedule so that toward the end of the quarter she was racing to catch up. Poor classroom management. If it wasn't for the math lab I wouldn't have had any hope of passing this class. Very disappointing.
Two weeks into winter qtr. and we're already behind. my friends in other 097 classes are beyond us. i heard this is a perennial problem with her and i'm starting to get really worried. she's nice but flakey. avoid her!
In the beginning Peggy was nice enough. Then the passive-aggressive weirdness started spilling out. She is one strange bird. Other problems: terrible classroom mgt. skills, terrible schedule skills; we fell so far behind that hardly anyone was prepared for 099. Now, 099 is kicking my rear end, no thanks to Peggy M.
She is definitely a weird professor. Though she teaches well and wants you to succeed. She will give you extra points if you need them to pass the class. Make sure you do ALL homework. She gives pop quizzes though she might be lenient & give you take home quizzes later in the quarter, which help your grade a lot. I would take her again.
I took 098 fall quarter two years ago. A few classes were canceled due to Peggie being sick and we did fall behind. She's also very sensitive. If you consistently need help with math or are a crass person, don't take her. If a little odd, she is a competent teacher, eager to help, and very sweet. I think she's a fine instructor.
Peggy was my teacher in 2011, Math 097 and 098. Her lectures are very fast paced so if you have an aptitude for math you will appreciate this, otherwise it will be frustrating. There is alot of homework. She is generous with grading by giving partial credit. The finals were at a knowledge level above the old finals the math dept posts for practice.
I took Peggy for Math 97/98. HORRIBLE! I only took her twice because she was the only teacher for the time that worked for me. Teaching is not a priority for her. She may or may not get around to grading tests in a timely manner, it depends on "how she feels". can't answer questions, does refuse at times. Learned 90% from Book! Book was great
Peggy is an okay instructor but overall she can't teach the class because all she does is go on the computer and check her email. She does not explain the problems very well and homework are based on the book and her quizzes and testes are not that bad.
Peggy can't teach math at all. She good instructor to talk outside the class ut in the classroom she can't teach at all. Youwill not learn anything beside learning from the textbook. If you want help from her you have to go her and ask her. She pointless. Don't take her no matter what math ur taking just don't take her at all.
Hybrid class with a ton of homework. Plan on spending a good deal of your time trying to stay caught up. Would not recommend this class unless you have a decent background in algebra and can pace yourself. Her final was ridiculously hard, not what we prepared for and on hunter orange paper OMG...seriously. Prepare to teach yourself, she wont.
Loved this teacher! She is VERY helpful and walks through each step carefully to make sure students understand. She is the perfect teacher for someone who is not a natural at math. She does have a quirky personality, but found it to be charming.
For Peggy's class, you REALLY need to focus, and be somewhat prepared to work with the book. But when explaining the problems to you, she will work quite well with her students and help them out where needed. Listening to her is key, and if you're a loafer, she is not the instructor for you.
Didn't teach. I was in a computer lab, but she only got up from grading papers twice go over problems and said the book would explain it to us. Provided no explanation of why. She was a very sweet lady but not the kind of person I want to be teaching me.
Took 98 as a Computer lab course, did great with it, but some students did not understand that most of it would be self taught using the computer. Was great at answering if you had questions. Do not take the lab classes if you know you will struggle. Took 99 with her in a lecture class. Lab was better for me. She will help even outside of class.
She was the worst she said she would do 6-8 lectures in the class and she did not even do one. When you asked her a question about the problems she would not understand. We had computer issues in the class and she would not fix the issues. It was a mess and she did not care about the students or teaching them anything.
Remember when you take this class that we all have our quirks. This woman loves Math and is very calm in presenting material which is helpful. If you have questions you need to come prepared to ask them and she will help you. *If* you don't come with questions she will assume that you know the material.
Run. Switch to another class ASAP! She was disorganized, and not very helpful. Plus she demands almost twice the workload.
She was nice enough, I guess, but I found her to be sort of patronizing. "I was really surprised at the number of people who got 1 wrong. I thought you'd all get it...but, well, I got over my disappointment." Stuff like that. Also took attendance 2-3 times per class: once in the beginning, once in the end. In case people left in the meantime.
Peggy is by far the best math teacher i have ever had. I usually get a C- in every math class I take, however, in this class (Math 98) I was able to get a B+ under her instruction.
Peggy has a quirky but nice sense of humor. If she knows that you don't understand or are frustrated by something, she will go out of her way to help you. Quiz and test questions are very fair and she gives you ample study material to prepare. As with any math class, it's important to keep up with the homework.
Nice lady, funny sometimes, completely disorganized. Some days I truly felt like she was teaching, other days even when I'm fully intent on the subject I felt my grasp of math slipping.
I don't know why Peggy have bad ratings, I think she's great and she makes it very clear. This is the first time I actually feel like I understand math because she speaks perfect english and she show you how to do problems step by step. HW due every Thursday, good amount of hw, tests and quizzes are easy, too. She gives out review questions.
This class was really easy for me. There were take home quizzes.. How much easier can it get? lol I really believe this class prepped me for advancing to Pre-Calc 141. She has a sense of humor and can be taken the wrong way if you let it, don't be a prude. :P
Peggy loves math. If you have questions, she will take time to help you understand or she will set up a time with you outside of class. If you don't have questions, she will assume you know it. Lots of homework, but she gives you time to do it. Quizzes are almost always similar to all of the homework problems. Extremely nice, quirky and fun!
By the time we were near the end of the quarter, we were way behind the other 099 classes. She hands out lots of extra credit, but it won't help you pass the department final, but it might help you pass the class. Beware: Peggy teaches several classes at different colleges and spends very little time at any one location.
This is one of the worst math teachers at Bellevue. She never handed back any homework or reviewed any tests. By the end of the quarter our class was way behind the other 098 classes. Students who complained about her were singled out and apparently ended up regretting doing do. Best advice is to take any other teacher instead of her.
Has outside class office hours. She is not specific with requirements on tests, be careful.
Peggy appears to be well versed in math. That said, she is about the last person that should be attempting to teach. She's confused, petty & unforgiving. If you are teaching Algebra at a college, it's obvious students need more instruction & support, but she teaches class like you are a graduate student. You will regret taking her class, I PROMISE!
Homework was never graded, only group projects. Which were everyday, and only 5 questions. And they couldn't be made up. Quizzes were 5 questions (when we had covered 8 sections) and you only had 20 minutes to complete them, which is definitely not enough time to go back and check answers. If you actually want to learn math, don't take this class.
This is the second class I have taken with Peggy, and honestly, if I could take all of my math classes with her, I would. For the first time in my life, I am actually understanding Algebra. If you are having trouble grasping a concept, she will keep going over it in different ways until you do get it. I would 100% take her again.
Slowest and most boring teacher you'll ever have. Most of class is watching her write long definitions and problems on the board. She's an ok teacher, she teaches right out the book. If you just pay attention but also make sure you follow along with a textbook to go further head if you'd like, you'll be fine. No graded homework. just group work
Peggy is awesome. Great at breaking things down slowly and even throws in a little bit of humor (if you're smart enough to pick up on it). I haven't taken a math class in over ten years and I had no problem understanding without trying too hard. show up to class and listen and you will be fine. she also is flexible with you and gives extra cred
No homework, only group assignments (2-5 problems max), couple quizzes, 3 exams, and final. If you show up and listen, take notes theres no reason you shouldn't get at least a B. She's not a bad teacher just sometimes boring, slow and does problems the hard way or explains them kinda weird. She's pretty funny and is willing to help if you ask.
Shes thorough, such that, she usually goes over the time limit of the class making sure everybody that has questions is on the level of the class. Shes a little old lady with a sense of humor, and knows her stuff. If you can ask the questions that help you progress, she'll usually know and be able to help you, not making you feel dumb. A rare gem.
Peggy gives a good mix of quizzes, group work, gives example problems during class so everyone can practice, all prior to the Exams. She gives practice questions for the Quizzes/Exams so you know exactly what you need to master. Overall, one of the best Math teachers I've had, and her sense of humor is dry/cringey, but I love it. Awesome teacher.
dont know why peggy has a 2.8/5. shes an old lady. so caring, nice and sweet. never ever was a fan of math until taking it with peggy. she knows what she is doing and she helps you and is accessible very easily outside of class. quizzes/homeowork in aleks and she is understanding and loose on deadlines. she is NOT BIAS AT ALL. would take her AGAIN!
Took her online class. Your scratch work and practices are also graded with every quiz/exam, which can increase or decrease your test score. Gives feedback on quiz work. Be wary: No feedback or explanation for final practice, work or test. Check ALL calendars for work, not everything will match up.
She is a super sweet older lady—always caring and patient with her students. Although she occasionally struggles with using the computer, overall, she is truly awesome!
