Very friendly. Fun class and informative. Fair grading with papers and exams.
The required presentation is too much coursework for a 101 class
Good prof. She makes you think, but she is willing to help you out.
A very personable professor, you'll enjoy her class.
Biased, feminist (even though she denies it), upset more students than helped
Great class discussions, excellent teacher. Really enjoyed the class.
I dread class. Way too much reading. thinks her class is the only one we have
Needs not so biased&realize that her class is not the only class students have.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH! SAVE ME!
She is aweful, too critical of students and very closed minded heropinion or non
I loved her class, she is biased, but the books thatu read for class r wonderful
Good class discussion.Very willing to listen to student's opionions.Great prof!
too much work for a GenEd class, goes over material too fast for an Ethics class
she makes my life miserable! Be wise and dont take her class
she isn't the easiest but her class is awesome and you get a lot from her
Dreaded class, impossible grader, made my life a living hell, STAY AWAY!
loved the class, but you'll do better if you pretend to agree with her views
not very open to other people's ideas, class discussions were good -no lectures
good professor, you'll be fine in this class, don't worry too much
She is nice, but I hate her class and I don't understand her!!!
she is very kind and extremely helpful... don't be afraid to ask for help
she is kind of hard but is very helpfull. I don't think she is byest at all
makes you think, she is nice and very helpful
very nice. hated the actual class but good prof to have
Ugh. What is this, high school? Attendance SUCKS!!!!!!!
Good teacher...I like her style.
She's a sweet lady! Very willing to help. Show up to class and you'll be fine.
She is GREAT! Just go to class ocassionally! ;-)
Loved the class/material;not a bad teacherbuthad trouble leading class discussio

Great lady! Very fair, interesting, great conversationalist. Good overall
Great prof and conversationalist. Can't wait to take 102
WATCH OUT!!! pretend that you are religious and you'll be fine, very biased
she is terrible. the class was boring and she pushes her ideas on everyone. not the way i want to spend my 212 dollars a credit.
Pretty good teacher, but tests are AWFUL! 5 essays plus vocab!
awesome prof, incuraged people to think- some people don't like to... reading the book is essential, some of it is hard- she knows. Highly recommended, made 8:30a class worth waking up for
The class is easy if you are willing to put in the work. She gives you a list of possible essay questions before the tests. Must attend class to do good.
Very fun class, requires you to think but not too hard
I think she is the sweetest teacher ever. She and all her college roomates are marvelous teachers.
gave the guy next to me a better final grade and I got higher grades throughout the class, can add them up and prove it!Hmmmmmm...definately takes favorites if you buy into what she wants you to...don't stand up for your own beliefs!!!
great class, got me to think in new ways. very caring prof. 2 easy papers to do. 2 exams are very easy if you study. attend all classes to understand material.
She is pretty biased, so if you are not buddy buddy with her you are pretty much screwed....
Ehh... a pretty easy class for the most part. Attendance policy sucks, but only 1 paper and a final exam, plus a bunch of BS work. Picks favorites, so speak up in class to get on her good side.
Very helpful, just have to seek it. Show up to class, talk in class 2-3 times, go to her office hours once or twice and she'll work with you on anything
She is very clear and gives shorter more managable reading assignments than most philosophy profs. In class dialogues she is good at looking at the different points of view that many of the ignorant white west-Michigan students don't see, in spite of the fact that she's from Holland herself.
not very clear, really nice though, extremely indecisive when students ask questions, sweet but a little aggravating at times
She is a great professor! Very helpful and very sweet. I wasn't interested in the class until I started. It makes you think, but isn't too challenging. Its important to do the readings for pop quizzes, but if you pay attention during class the midterm and final are a breeze.
I thought prof. Vanderberg was absoultely great. I do not think she plays favorites...she may seem interested in what some particular students have to say in class, simply because they speak uo in class...I wouldnt consider that being biased though. Very helpful during office hours.
BEST Prof at GVSU. She is so sweet. The exam questions are given to you, you just need to go to class and read. Its easy. You will enjoy every min. you are in class if you participate. She is the best there is. TAKE her
What a pleasure it was to take this class. Vandeberg is very sweet and interesting and genuinly cares about what students have to say. The class is very easy, the exam Q's are givin to you, and quizzes are fair to the reading. She is a very nice person, with stories and opinions of her own. Take her, you won't be disapointed.
She is a very good professor and really knows her stuff. She is always entertaining and very willing to help all students. She really takes the time to get to know everyone in her class. Some of the material is difficult, but she explains it very well.
Amazing prof....she does really care about you! What a great class. She makes you think and is ver fair in all evaluations. Take her class!!
Horrible teacher. Very close-minded and often made fun of student's opinions. She has a huge ego and loves to talk about herself. Holds everyone to the very end of class. Going to class was so boring, but necessisary for a good grade. PLEASE FIRE HER!
Phyllis is the worst Professor i have ever had. She teaches Lib 100 like it's a 300 level class. she is completely biased to her students. If your opinions differ from hers then you have another thing coming. she is very closed minded when the class is about being open minded. If you want a good grade dont take her.
Something about Vandenberg irks me, and I'm not sure what it is. It's like she treats us like we're in high school, she made us make little name tags and put them on our desk for the first 3 weeks of class. She just seems fake, but maybe it is just me. Her teaching seems mechanical, like she got her lesson plans from Sparknotes. Yech, not my style.
I hate this teacher. She by far has been the worst teacher ever. This class is a 100 level class not upper level. She does not care about you, just herself. She really does not care about others eaither. DONT TAKE HER!
Peggy is an amazing teacher. I know that many students report that she is opinionated, but what she does, is question your opinion. She makes you really understand what your opinion is and why. You write a lot, but it is not hard. I had her for a few classes, she is very fun and helpful. Great lady.
She has her biases, but she doesn't think twice about questioning them, and it turn, expects you to question your own. She truly cares about every student and wants to hear your insights about the material. Lectures are a little unorganized, but she is clear about what will be on the exams, and has no problem meeting with students to chat.
I really enjoyed this class! Her lectures are engaging for the most part and the readings are also very interesting. Attendance is the biggest part of your grade, and being in class is important in order to fully understand the assigned reading. Gives exam questions a week ahead so you can study them. Good prof for intro to philosophy!
Great Professor! Extremely helpful. Exams are a bit hard but she always tells you what the exam questions are so that you can be prepared. She is not as biased as some have written but like all of us she has opinions and she tells the class about them prior to addressing the certain topic. She wants to hear your own opinions. My favorite professor.
her tests were more difficult than what she was teaching.
Had her for ethics. She is confusing & contradictory. She doesn't listen to students, but it is pretty easy to get a good grade if you listen to her & do the homework. Do papers HER way, not necessarily the right way. Would suggest a different teacher but it is not the end of the world if you end up with her.
extremely difficult exams but gives you questions ahead of time, doesn't not teach to all learning styles (i'm a visual learner and this class was very difficult for me), very opinionated, lots of pop quizzes
She is really passionate about teaching. Her class was a big discussion where anyone could share what they thought. The readings in the book were difficult, but she would explain them in the next class. Watch out for those 6 reading quizzes! Tests were 3 250 word questions. I didn't study much and didn't do all my readings and got a B.
Very passionate teacher, book readings are difficult, but the 6 quizzes following the readings are based on your interpretation of the reading, not hers, so be careful. Very set in her opinions. Challenging but rewarding class, very interesting prof and kept me interested.
I don't like her as a teacher but as a person she is nice. Her class is supposed to be about different interpretations and she says to say anything and you won't be judged, but I feel like if you don't agree with her you are wrong. Make sure you study and are able to write and the answers are pretty much handed to you if you take notes!
She is really a nice person, and very fun to talk to. I have to admit though, when expressing my ideas, I felt like I was wrong since I didn't see it her way. Not the best professor, but the not worst.
I really liked this professor, she was extrememly helpful and I thought she explained the material in a way that made it much more understandable. The 6 quizes were super easy. The tests were essay format and I thought the questions were relatively simple...as long as you at least skim through the readings and go to class.
This is a great prof, she gives you all that you need to know in lecture, if you take notes in class you should to really well in the class. she is funny and is interesting, i was told not to take this class by a ton of people but she really made it pretty interesting, if you are going to take phi 101 take vandenberg for sure!
Vandenburg is great prof. She has a great sense of humor and made my class laugh almost every day we were there. She is passionate about PHI and it is obvious in her lectures. They are interesting and thorough. Sometimes I would get so into listening to her talk I'd forget to take notes. She is also very helpful and encourages class discussion.
Read all of the assigned readings, only write from her perspective, take an exam that is 16 ESSAY QUESTIONS, and feel like you can't pass.
She's a good professor in that her lectures give notes that go right with the exam. She grades using few points which can hurt your grade in the long run. Pop quizzes on the readings. Mandatory attendance for points. She is unclear at times. Lets her views and opinions direct her teachings and she has some weird views.
Professor Vandenberg takes attendance, readings are mandatory since there are pop quizzes and you need to be able to discuss with the class, the exams are essay questions, the final you had to recall 11 essay questions in detail to be over 500 words . It is a writing intense course so there is a very extensive harsh graded paper.
Excellent teacher. She sticks to the syllabus, does what she says she will do, and is tough. If you take one of her SWS classes, be prepared to write! Show up, read the assigned reading, do the assigned writing, study, and you'll do just fine. I loved her class!
Vandenberg is the bomb dot com she makes class humorous and as long as you stay on top of the readings, you will do fine. she really cares about your individual success and is passionate about what she teaches. pop quizes on the readings aren't too bad, but I would take her again.
Prof. VandenBerg keeps class discussion interesting! Exams aren't too bad but papers are impossible. She is a tough grader! I would put HOURS into my papers and end up with a bad grade.. Overall not too bad.
Ethics is a very challenging subject to understand. There is a lot of reading for this class, 6 quizzes, 2 lecture responses, a paper, a novel, a midterm, and a final. I love Professor Vandenberg so much! She is hilarious and I loved waking up to her! Take her for ethics! Even though you may not like the subject matter, you will probably love her!
Well she assigns a semi-short read for every class, but I read almost none (hard, boring ). Even though she gave pop quizzes, she would give the questions she might ask the class before a pop quiz. So if you got the answers and studied them, you don't need to read. She went over the reads in great detail in class, so lecture notes would be enough.
I loved this professor. I went to her office hours when writing a paper. She was encouraging and helpful. Great sense of humor. STUDY FOR THE QUIZZES. they will make or break your grade
Worst professor I've ever had! She is unorganized, very prejudice, boring, and thinks her beliefs are the ultimate answertruth. It's ironic how she is supposed to be teaching an ethics course, but does not practice personal moral behavior. Also, DO NOT BUY THE BOOK. All of the readings can be found online in some capacity.
Professor Vandenberg is great! She's really makes an effort to know every student in her class, and although she sometimes comes across as a little brash, she's a hilarious prof and an awesome person! She assigns a ton of reading, and as long as you do it, you'll do well.
Vandenberg is amazing. I was going through one of my busiest semesters ever when I had this class, and she was beyond understanding. We went over so many philosophers during this class, and I learned so much. I would definitely take her class again. Just be sure to actually do the readings. She's a very genuine and nice person. Funny too!
Very funny and you can tell she loves what she is doing. Passionate about her job. As long as you read and show up you should do well.
Professor Vandenberg is a ray of sunshine. She is so funny and really loves what she teaches and cares about her students doing well. She can get a little scatterbrained in lecture but I think it's due to her excitability over the topics. As long as you do your reading and pay attention in lecture, she grades lightly so it's an easy A!
Not too bad, but make sure you attend every class because attendance is mandatory for your grade. She also gives pop quizzes throughout the semester, but as long as you do the reading and focus on the subject in the syllabus you will be fine. She's a tough grader for essays, but helps during office hours. Not the best, but definitely not the worst.
If you can take a class with her, do it! She is such a sweet lady, and really knows the Enlightenment thinkers. Pay attention in class, study for the exams, visit her office, and you will do well. Highly recommend!
