A very dedicated and passionate teacher. Hard to understand sometimes, and a little inexperienced, but cares a ton and wants everyone to succeed. Lectures are important as his exams are based on what he teaches and not so much on the tutorials. Learned a great deal from him and made a really tough class a little more interesting.

308 is the type of class where you need to study to pass, and those who rated him poorly have probably not studied much. Mr. Cheng is such a passionate and dedicated professor who was ALWAYS happy to help me with questions for the midterms and final. He really cares about students success and also has a great sense of humour!

Anyone who said he was a bad teacher didn't study. You have to do problems over and over again and he helps you out a lot. His tests are hard but they are curved up and help you prepare for the final. Very nice guy also

I'm not a very good reference because I'm a self learner and barely went to class BUT, what I know is that Prof Cheng really cares about his students. Every time I read emails he sent, I would smile & laugh. He truly cares about his students and is always willing to help. Midterms are tough but doable! I would recommend. COMM308 is naturally hard!

One of the few professors that actually cares about his students. Yes he can be unclear sometimes but his notes are very well done. People who review him badly probably went to one lecture and then made a snap judgement. Read the textbook, pay attention in his lectures and go to his office hours for any questions and you can do well in his course.

One of the few profs i had that actually cares about the students. Despite being confused at times in class, he is very helpful when you go see him in his office hours. He tries his best to prepare you for the final and if you put in the effort as well, it pays off. His emails are the best.

He really cares about his students and want them to do well. Always replies to email super fast and his notes are very helpful with the comments that he adds. His midterms may seem a bit hard but that is because he doesn't want us to be surprised by the final exam and averages are made equal for all sections anyways. Plus he's very funny!

He does have the heart to teach. He is very patience with you, so be patience with him. you don't really have to read the book, make sure to understand every single little detail on his slides. He writes notes on his slides which are very informative. His midterms are a little bit tricky here and there, but besides that, I would def recommend him.

Youngest prof I have ever watch in my univeristy life. Reply email with patience. really wish to help students. Midterm will be hard if you dont read his slides or attend class. He did give reward to students who got good grades or showed great improvement. I would take his other class but I am in Acco major.

Really passionate about the course and student success. Always willing to lend a helping hand if needed. He may be difficult to understand at times but his notes are well done. He adds extra comments to clarify key points. His exams are tricky but they prepare you for the final. Quick to put grades and his emails are refreshing.

Overall, he taught well. Despite he designed his mid term exams kind of trick, but they were helpful for finals. He has a great sense of humor, and you can learn some knowledge about what is financing in reality. One point I think he should improve is his handwriting on blackboard.

Great teacher, really does his best to help us students understand the material. Challenging exams but curves us to compensate. Replies to e-mails quickly and is very patient in case you have a hard time understanding. I would recommend him :) thanks for the great semester !

This teacher is hilarious. More importantly he really cares about his students and you can tell that he has a good heart. He is really helpful and even though I finished with a bad grade, I know it was my own fault. I have to retake the class and honestly I wish I can retake him. His exams are a bit tricky, but it's to prepare you for the final.

Great professor! Despite my poor attendance record, I truly enjoyed the classes that I did attend. Professor Cheng was always there to give me feedback, he's is a natural motivator-not to mention his Breaking bad references are great. Comm 308 is a tough class to teach but he makes it interesting. Refreshing to have a prof who genuinely cares about his students passing. I've taken COMM308 3 times (dropped once, failed 2nd time) and this time I managed to get a B- which for finance I am thrilled about. Couldn't have done it without the prof's detailed lectures & slides and willingness to go above and beyond to help all of us.

this prof has amazing slides to the point you don't need to go to class. but go to class to know what's on his midterms. his midterms are easier than the final so get as many points as you can there. he's midterms aren't rep. of the final but none are. Very helpful if you show interest in the class. Really nice guy who cares that you learn

You actually learn, he has the best notes, and gives the most amazing analogies which makes everything so much easier to understand. He acts as a friend rather than a Prof, and he is super funny. Also, he is an extremely honest person, and goes beyond the criteria of the University to actually teach you how to succeed in the business world.

He really wants his students to understand concepts rather than memorize. His notes are clear and if you read those along with the chapters in the book you should be fine! He always answers questions either in class, in office hours or through email. Overall he's a funny teacher who really tries to prepare his students for the real world!

He's a teacher that cares a lot about his students, and would always find time to answer our questions, give us extra office hours or even stay after class to re-explain a mistunderstood theory. I would take him again in a heart beat, mostly because I was always looking foward to go to class.

Easily the most life changing teacher I've had at JMSB. Sounds corny, but this was the first time in my life that I went to class and never took a single note. The material was so interesting and applicable to real life that it was impossible to forget. He really cares about your success, and is genuinely an amazing human. Take him. And hilarious.

This teacher is talent. He has a lot of knowledge and real life experience. He is the best teacher I have ever met in JMSB. I took his COMM308 and FINA395, he tried his best to help students understand his notes, and provided great career suggestions. Take his class ASAP.

Does his best to help students succeed. read his notes before class, and pay attention. his notes are the best, no need to buy the textbook. midterm is fair and assignment its very interesting. very approachable and helpful during office hours. the only bad thing is that he is not teaching any other higher fina courses yet :)

Plus, you do not need the book as his notes are way better, which makes you save money. Don't even think twice about choosing him.

One of the best professors I have had in my finance courses so far. He puts a lot of effort in the preparation of his class and really wants student to succeed. He encourages discussion in class, it is NOT a boring lecture of someone reading slides to you. Would retake them anytime, highly recommend.

I took him for a futures and options class this semester and I can honestly say that i learned in his class. It is a hard class because of the material itself not because of him. He is available to help students anytime they need it through office hours or email responses. It's the class i put the most effort into. Made me very proud to succeed.

had him for 2 fina 412&410, i'm very happy i had him as a prof as he responds to emails very fast & is very helpful during office hours & takes time to explain things when you don't understand. Had him for 410 and i can say i am truly satisfied with my experience. Peiran understands that memorisation of material, or problems has no merit in the real world, he truly wants the best for you so he challenges you. The project was super fun, even though it was not easy and the best part is that Peiran was there every step of the way!

Great prof. Probably the best quantitative professor Ive had yet at JMSB. Very clear explanations, and has great course notes. After a difficult time with 308 this class made way more sense. Show up to class and it will go smoothly.

I can count on one hand the number of professors I've encountered who are as caring about their students as Mr Cheng is. He provides thorough feedback and really focuses on mastering the material and working methods. Rewards efforts generously and genuinely. Would retake anytime!

Prof Cheng is an amazing professor who truly cares about his students. He values a true in depth understanding of the material and those who satisfy this will do extremely well. His tests are very fair and have no surprises. His lectures are interesting and engaging and his class was nearly always full. My favourite Professor thus far.

He's such a young prof but I know that most of my more "experienced" profs could do well with learning from this man. To be honest, I find all the Chinese professors in JMSB are excellent. They are logical and know how to teach. This professor is a good example. For some negative comments below me, I finally understand that sometimes it is good to experience than listening to someone else.

lectures are clear and good. For some unreal reviews here, I am very disappointed Concordia has some students like these.

Peiran Cheng is one of the best teachers I have had in university. He is the most caring teacher and will go out of his way to ensure that he can do his best for his students. I recommend him 100% and will gladly take him again for another class if possible. COMM 308 is not an easy class but he'll make sure to explain it until you understand.

Peiran Cheng is the best professor I've ever met in Concordia University. His class is interesting, and he tried to make everyone understand what the notes cover.

The lectures are clear and straight to the point. He cares very much about his student's success and will make time for them. This class is already difficult, yet Prof. Cheng made it more bearable. *Highly* recommend attending the class even though it is not mandatory.

The best prof I have had in any finance class so far at JMSB! I would highly recommend taking Prof Cheng and FINA 410 as a class! The group project is long and takes a lot of effort but it is really rewarding.

The nicest professor I've had the pleasure of taking at JMSB. He will make sure you understand everything well and always answers his emails fast. He also grades the evaluations fairly quick so you're not left wondering for a whole week how you did on your exam. He's very knowledgeable and passionate to teach finance to his students. Good, fair, entertaining

This teacher was so good I felt the need to create an account and write this review. He is excellent at explaining complex subjects and makes it entertaining to learn. By far the best teacher I've had at Concordia. If you have the chance to take his course I would highly recommend it!

My favourite professor I have had at JMSB! Make sure to attend his classes as he explains what will be covered on the exams in further detail. Do not be afraid to ask him questions if things are not clicking. He truly cares about his students' success. You will get the grade you deserve. No surprises on exam day and his project is very fair.

He manages to explain the intuition behind concepts and really cares about his students understanding and succeeding. Exams are fair.

Attendance is not mandatory in terms of it being graded, however the class lectures are very heavy and many tips for the exams are given which means that if you want to do well you should attend every class. Overall Professor Cheng was a really great instructor, and made a heavy course manageable and super interesting!

Took him for COMM 308 and FINA 385 and he was great. Was clear about what we should know and made sure we understood what we were learning. Has fun while teaching and his lectures are enjoyable. For 385 attendance wasn't "mandatory" but it would be very difficult to get a decent grade if you didn't attend lectures.

I really enjoyed his class. He was knowledgeable and explained the theory really well. Was very clear about what to expect in the exams and gave very relevant examples of exam problems in his notes.

He's a very nice person and genuine person. Just focus in class and ask questions, because I didn't do that but I still got a pretty good grade. Take him.

One of the very few genuine professors I have ever had. You can tell he really is passionate with what he's teaching while also ensuring everyone understands how to apply what we learned instead of just memorizing for the exam. In addition to that, amazing sense of humour and inspirational professor.

My best FINA teacher yet. He is committed to teaching every student and really cares on weather you grasp the concept. I really wish I had discovered him earlier. The course is calculation heavy but out of all my courses taken so far, it's the one I will look back at and say “I enjoyed coming to class and was worth my time”.

The best teacher I have had in finance! This course is known as one of the hardest classes for finance majors but Peiran made it very simple and clear and allowed me to flourish in the class. Make sure you have a good group. All the best! And may the DCF be with you!

This professor made a hard class really easy to understand. Lectures are not mandatory, however if you want to learn, you must be present. He is very direct about his expectations and will always give you feedback. He is super present for questions and has actually worked in the field so he can explain perfectly.

Peiran makes the class interesting and really helps students succeed in the course. Project is very time consuming and tough but he helps you out. Final had a couple of MCQs and one question worth 75% which makes it difficult. If you're taking 410, take it with him!

He's very sweet and cares about his students. He tells you what you need to do well in his class. ATTEND THE LECTURES as there's only his notes to study and they are in bullet points so it's hard to understand everything on your own. He doesn't answer questions well in my experience or give helpful feedback.

Truly an amazing professor. Never before have I experienced a professor that cares more about his students than Professor Cheng, as he is overly generous with his time outside the classroom ensuring the student's needs are met. He is an expert in his field and provides exceptional feedback along with real world applications. Take him and attend.

He made the course clear, organized, and easy to follow. His explanations simplified even the hardest topics, and his feedback was always detailed and helpful. I really enjoyed learning from him and appreciated how supportive and engaging he was throughout the semester
