Had him last semester. It's mostly group work in class and he gives you a lot of packets to read and then write about. I definitely became a better writer. He's a pretty sarcastic person, but I would take his class again. Plus he's really clear with what he wants.
don't take his class seriously cuz he is new teacher and don't know how to teach and also he grades so hard. one more thing if ur late to class 1 min, he is going to mark u late. those of u who hate reading don't take it. also don't buy or rent the text book because he is not going to used.
You cannot deny the quality of education that Mr. O provides for you. His knowledge of English literature's advantageous for those really looking to get their moneys worth and seeking a greater understanding of the subject. A professor worth taking, providing challenges compel you to really push yourself, it really helped me become a great student.
Don't take his class. He's a new professor so he doesnt teach much. You get marked tardy for being even a minute late. He is a hard grader, gives a lot of work too.
Don't take his class he's new teacher nd very hard....
He is extremely helpful with the class work. If you get the answer wrong then he'll help you through it until you get it right. He would walk around the class and help, so don't be afraid to ask questions or ask him to explain things because you don't understand. There will be a lot of reading and writing. It's expected in all English classes.
I learned a lot in this class. The material was challenging, but useful and interesting. I think the instructor tries to put together worthy readings. Expect to have a lot of homework. I think I definitely became a more critical reader as a result, which was the purpose of the class for me. Summer classes are hard! But it was good.
Don't take this class! He's way too hard, and doesn't care if anyone passes the class. There's a bunch of reading and quizzes that aren't fair. Avoid.
This is a critical thinking class, know what you're getting into. Lots of thick reading, and I mean, THICK. He's a good teacher in a way where he shows you various ways of thinking, but for some, it'll only get more confusing. Midterm and final are based on short answer essay questions. Taking 101B before 101C with him will only slightly help you.
Coooooool dude
You can only miss class 3 times, and every 3 tardies equal up to an absence. (He is strict about this). Grades hard, he is kind of confusing for me sometimes. But really likes deep lectures, and group work. It was a pretty boring semester because everyday it was the same routine. Read a lot of packets, and then answers questions in groups.
Critical reading class. If you read his novels, you'll easily get A on tests and quizzes. There are a lot of pop quizzes, homework, and short-journals for every week. However, lectures in textbooks are much shown on his powerpoint. If you are good at reading stuffs, just need to buy the novels. Fair grader. Make sure to follow his instructions.
Not the best class I've taken. He can be confusing during his lectures and all we do is have class discussions. It was the same routine for every class meeting. Get into groups and talk about whatever the reading assignment was. He doesn't make the class exciting, so a lot of us were pretty bored in class. I didn't learn much this semester.
Omidi is a really cool guy as a person, but I personally feel like he needs to brush up on his teaching skills. Anytime we'd ask him a question in class, he seemed to be confused himself and respond with something really vague. He was very unclear about assignments, but he was good at digging deep and unraveling the meanings behind required texts.
He is a horrible professor, I hated this guy. Not worth taking, don't risk failing 101A by taking him, he's just not worth it. There are much better Professors that teach 101A, are are more worth your money and time.
He is a lenient grader, but you need to follow his instructions for essays and quizzes very closely. As long as you follow the instructions for the essay, you will get a good grade. Besides him not being able to get his point across at times, prompting students to ask him to clarify, he is an overall very fun and to-the-point type of person.
The way the lectures go felt as if we were teaching ourselves. He simply disagreed with what people said in class, without giving any reason or clarification, and never gave literary support for his perspective. NO reason for non-attendance is accepted, no matter what. Don't bother asking questions because they will go unanswered or ignored. Vapid.
I'm currently in this class and doing well. I would say the key to this class is to be sure to read everything, as the teacher quizzes regularly on the reading. Also, follow his prompts and guidelines. I'm not great at English and I've done these things, and I've gotten mostly A's thus far. Most of the class agrees it's not too hard to do well.
Omidi was a tough professor but really helped me develop my writing skills. We wrote three essays during the semester and had a bunch of smaller writing assignments. While it was a lot of work, the results were evident. Through his support and feedback I've become a much better writer. He also introduced me to some really thought provoking articles
I loved this class. Whenever I needed clarification, he was very helpful. He's a tad on the quiet side, but he's a cool person and you can tell he is passionate about literature, which makes my experience as a student, even better. Now, I feel more knowledgable about lit and, believe it or not, would consider myself a reader! Thank you, Mr. Omidi!
Omidi is one of those hard ass professors for English. He is strict on almost everything, from attendance, to homework, participation, talking in class, to even being 5 minutes late! He is certainly one heck of a weird guy as well, be prepared to read, read and read in his classes. He's very specific and tough on his essays as well. Good luck!
Mr. Omidi has some good qualities and great potential but needs to realize that this is a community college class not an upscale university. He assigns essays that are not clear. Any absence is counted no matter if your in the ER or a family member has died. If you have another choice it would be wise to take another instructor.
Mr. O. is a unique instructor. It took me a while to get used to his style, but after some time I did come to appreciate it. He's very smart, and doesn't put up with certain things. He does expect a lot from students. He can seem standoffish, but I met with him outside of class, and he was open and helpful. Also, I think he's pretty hot. :)
I took this class really wanting to improve my writing. There were a things I learned here that I think I'll use from here on. The classes go between reading articles, going over what they mean, and finding ways to think about them. Prof. Omidi made it clear to me what needed work in my writing, and by the end of the semester, I was better.
Omidi likes to put people in groups, so beware of lots of group work and also lots of reading in his class. You read a lot of various different articles, some are interesting while some are not as interesting as they could be. He's a tough grader when it comes to essays, but he is clear on what he wants in his essay requirement sheet. Good Luck! :)
Mr. Omidi isn't one that many people might favor as to other professors. However, he is a good professor, who makes you think critically in the readings and in your writing as well. You do a lot of reading, writing and group discussions. Coming to class is a must as well as some participating throughout the various discussions held in class.
Honestly, yeah he may seem as the not cool teacher, and also hard at first, but it's really not all too bad if you think abut it. He makes you really think critically on everything you read, so you truly understand the meaning and point, of an article just read or excerpt from the textbook. He is a hard professor, when comes to essays as well. :)
Got a lot from Omidi's class. He can be harsh at times, but overall he's fair and he's helpful--especially if you meet with him one on one. I think if you want an easy time, maybe he's not the best, but for more of a college experience, too me it's better.
This is a REAL critical thinking class. I didnt feel like it was an intro class though, but then, learned a lot from the reading. Omidi quizzes regularly, and sets things up a way where you gotta come to class and be on top of it to succeed. Not hard, just do the work and attend on time. He's nice and he's mean haha, and is shy, but that's cool:)
Mr. Omidi is a really strict professor, one who doesn't take any bs. Don't be late to class ever, don't ever skip either, and read read and learn to think critically in order to succeed in his class. You learn not how to write, but how to think and understand critically what you just read. The writings are based off what you read so read and write!
Prof. Omidi is not the easy teacher for some maybe, because he doesn't go over things repeatedly. He says it once, and expects you to get it. I liked that. Also as far as helping with writing, he does give feedback, and if you ask him, he'll go over everything so to understand it. Individually, he helped me a lot. He's not a hand holder though :)
Professor Omidi is getting to be a pretty popular professor in the English department, which could easily be good or bad. Omidi is a really strict grader, and just really strict overall. You read a lot in his classes, and you have to be able to think critically in all his classes. He's not easy, so don't expect to come and just pass. He's tough. :)
Omidi is certainly one strange guy, he is very strict on many things in class, you reads a ton in his class, and you have to really be able to think critically to pass the class. While the class may seem a bit hard, if you put your mind to it and focus, you will do well. You need to be able to read and understand what you just read to do well. :)
I found Mr. Omidi's class interesting and even fun sometimes, not hard, as some say. You must do the homework, and read everything closely, but the quizzes ask straightforward questions from the readings, not tough. For essays he wants a certain format, but this was easy. Sometimes he can make students feel kinda off, not uncommon with teachers :)
Omidi's class was a very strange and hard one. You have to really be able to understand and critically think about what you just read in order to succeed as his essays are focused on what you read so understanding is key. Attendance is also very crucial in his class, reading and writing are definitely key highlights to the class. He is very weird.
He's tough, but it was an interesting class. Usually I do poorly in English because I always get C's, but Professor Omidi helped my writing.
This was a good class. The teacher could be hard, but overall the expectation and requirements were clear. If you don't like to read and avoid strictness, then avoid this class. Also, choose where to sit carefully the first day, cause it's important for quizzes. Also, follow the prompts
Professor Omidi is one tough professor, he treats the class as at a real college level. He's tough and his explanations are not always clear, you always have to make sure to ask him again if your unclear of any material or what he expects. You read a ton in his classes, so be prepared to read. His essays are hard, but just follow his format.
His English 101A course is tough, if you don't want a strict teacher, than he may not be for you. He is known for his toughness and strictness, and for reading a ton in his classes. He loves to assign reading assignments and makes you think critically. He has a lot of high expectations for his students and therefore holds high standards.
This class kept me interested. The readings can be complicated, but Prof. Omidi goes over the aspects he excepts you to know. I wouldn't take this for an easy 'A.' Had to work for it. The professor also can be pretty strict , as others say, but that didn't bother me. Not the typical english class certainly.
Omidi's 101A is difficult as rather all of his classes are difficult and not easy. He's not an easy going person, rather he is a hard professor to get by. He's a tough guy and he really makes you think critically and understand what you are reading and writing. He gives minimal feedback on your papers so you really got to see him if you need help.
Great critical thinking class. I would totally recommend Prof. Omidi for this subject. I took him for 101A and 101B, and I think this is his best class. The readings are not easy, but I learned a lot and I feel like my thinking skills are better as a result. He will not go along with stupid comments, which I really appreciate in a teacher always.
This is definitely a critical thinking class. There are a lot of readings, and he gives out quizzes regularly. It's not a very hard class, but if you don't do the work, you won't pass.
Cool class. The teacher is unique and inward, but the readings were interesting. Its a good class for anyone who likes things left of center. The workload can get intense at times, but the material is broken down to make sense. Mr. Omidi does not allow foolin around much, but we did get into some long and good discussions. Recommended!
He's tough, and he's certainly known for being tough. If you are looking for an easy professor, that he is not. He teaches in a way that is rather different than most and it is a really challenging course. For 101A, you read a lot and write a lot, but you learn a lot as well. He's not too thorough as he could be and he is extremely strict.
MR. Omidi has his own teaching methods. Its mostly close readings, with some class discussion, but more about the articles. He does know what he's talking about, and definitely challenges students to be logical and make sense. The expectation is high, but if you do the readings and come to class, the grading is lenient. He is certainly a character.
He's a good instructor, but does have some flaws in his teaching. He is strict but in a good way if you think about it, he is teaching you college ready skills. He expects you to be on time, be responsible for your own life and get things done on time. No leniency what so ever. He is also known to be tough as well, you will learn a lot however.
Omidi is a tough professor, he really requires a lot out of you. You read a ton in his class, and he expects that you are willingly to do the readings and assigned assignments and essays. He is tough, but if you try you can do it, just need to be able to follow his instructions carefully. Read, read and read and understand what you read to do well.
Mr. Omidi is quite the one, I took him for English 162 and while the class was not hard persay, I felt it could be tough for some. He is a generally known to be s hard grader, but if you try you will do okay. It's hard to get an A in Omidi's classes, but you can get a B if you do the work and try. He assigns a lot of different reading material too.
Mr. Omidi has tough expectations for his classes. His 163 class is not hard persay, rather it is just a lot of work. The workload is not tough, but it is a lot. You will reading a ton in class and the readings aren't hard but just a ton. You use critical thinking a lot throughout the course and there are hw and quizzes too. Tests are tough too.
I would say this is a real agood class. The teacher likes to keep things different, so you stay interested. The key to success is just coming to class and following directions. I'm not the best writer but I did well.
Professor Omidi doesn't take any bs in his class. He's a straight shooter and he expects the same from his students. He gives work consistently, but it's not overwhelming. Plus he's a cool person.
Took Omidi over the summer. His class is not one of those English classes where everything goes. He wants students to think about what they read and write well. I'm an English major, so I appreciated it. He doesn't hesitate to tell students that they're wrong :)
Professor Omidi's class was very helpful for my writing. I am working hard on my writing, and he really did help it improve. He knows how to organize writings and how to make everything very clear. I would take him again.
This class is all about reading short articles and analyzing them. This will be unlike any english class you have taken trust me. The work is not a lot, and the teacher always wants you to discuss with groups and quiz that way as well. I looked forward to going to class, which is rare for me.
This class was about art, and psychology and theory. I really liked it. We read about tragedy, we read some awesome books and short stories. We watched films too. The reading is a good amount, but it wasn't too much for a college class really. The good thing was the material was interesting, and the professor lets you interpret it your own way.
Prof Omidi is by far one of the best instructors I have ever had. His class is pretty tough, but he's more than willing to help. He challenges your writing skills and critical thinking skills, but at the same time improves your writing. his crude sense of humor flows flawlessly with the material of the course. Put in effort and you'll do fine.
Omidi is one of those outside of the box professors, he tries to do things differently than other professors would. He likes to challenge students to be mindful thinkers and really understand think abut what was read in the assigned readings. He is known to be a tough professor, however that being said, if you put the effort in, you will succeed!
Mr. Omidi has quality in him as a professor, he is different than most other professors here at Ohlone. He takes everything seriously, and has very to absolutely no leniency whatsoever. He is a rather strict professor, but then again this is college, expect it to be. He assigns various reading materials and expects a lot out of you. Try your best!
I came to really like Mr. Omidi. At first I thought it was weird, cause he's younger, and kinda quiet. But as the semester goes you realize you're learning a lot and its important. He's a very good listener, and sensitive, and tries to give people time to speak their thoughts. Meeting with him for tutoring helps too. Overall, he's a pretty nice guy
Professor Omidi is a tough guy, he means business. That being said however, he is strict, but still does have a little sense of humor. He doesn't like disruptive students, people who come late etc, that stuff, you better leave out the door. His class is rather interesting, you have good reading material and the essays really help you overall. :)
Omidi's personality is really strict, he is not lenient at all. You really have to be on top of things to succeed in his class, listening to instructions is key in his class. He is tough in the beginning, but later on you'll understand him better and will be able to get through the course better. He is here to help you succeed, ask for help always!
The key to doing well in Mr. Omidi's class pay close attention during lectures and keep on top of the lab work, because it's half of the course grade. You read a ton in class and even out of class. The lab work is a pain, and he doesn't appreciate or tolerate jokers in class. Pay attention, listen, do the work, and appreciate his help, he's there.
Mr Omidi is a good teacher. He reveals many different types of issues and approaches to reading. The best thing to do to succeed in this class is to come to class and take good notes. Everything on the quiz is from the lecture, or it just checks to see if you've read it. It's also a fun class, because we speak about the issues and very interesting.
Mr. Omidi is a strange professor, rather he is more on the stricter side of things compared to most. He is interesting in the way he teaches and is helpful, but sometimes gives an odd vibe during class. The lab is pointless, but yet required to pass. Tons of reading, but it's good interesting reading, chill class, easy if you do the work. :)
Mr. Omidi is a cool guy, he's alright as a professor. I think he has a uniqueness in him, as to the way he teaches his courses. You have to put the effort into the class to really get the grade you want. It's not just gonna be handed to you, do minimal work you'll pass, but the harder you work, the better the grade will be in his class. He is good.
Mr. Omidi classes are tough, this one including. While it is a basic reading course, it still tough, there is a ton of reading involved, but the reading for the most part is good enough or relateable to real word issues. He knows how to teach and he teaches things in a unique way, it's a different way of thinking from most other professors.
His class already covers with future 101B and 101C. If you have not built enough vocabularies, it's better not to take his class in summer; otherwise, you won't catch his pace. Please do not expect him to fix your issues of spelling or grammar individually, because he assumes all students have finished Eng 151B flawlessly.
He is a tough professor, however you will learn a lot by taking his class. He teaches you many different things which will benefit you in the long run. His class is not easy, he makes you work for the grade, it's not given. Coming to class is a must and you have to really want to succeed to do well. Come to class prepared to do well.
He is a cool guy, but his class is not easy as you think. You have to put a lot of effort if you want a really good grade. It's not easy to get an A in is class, you have to really want it and work hard for it. He doesn't hand out grades, but he is very helpful upon asked. His teaching is different from many professors, but you will learn a lot.
Short deadlines on 4+ page essays
Mr. Omidi's class was pretty entertaining. Lots of readings, true, but they were all mostly interesting and consistent In theme. You do have to do the readings to do well though. It gets kind of technical in class too, but if you want to improve writing, it helps. He's into dark humor, and is a little too serious, but also a very chill guy.
He is a tough professor for sure, he holds high standards for all his students. You can expect him to assign readings everyday and then papers about them right after. He can intimidating as well, but he does know how to teach, he just does it differently than most. Homework is assigned and due quickly, expect to come to class everyday or else.
Extremely handsome professor, his smile is so captivating and his lectures are engaging. It was always fun to attend his classes. He gives you a clear cut idea of what is expected of you during the semester and he offered tutoring hours at the Newark LRC for students who struggled with papers. 10/10 would recommend. Handsome and exotic professor!
Thought he was a pretty amazing teacher, cares about his students tremendously, participation is big in this class. Not a lot of homework, work load is manageable.
He's a very unique teacher. He makes you work for a good grade, no easy A's in this class, but its worth it. You learn alot and end up accomplishing things you would never had thought possible
Omidis was a deep experience. You learn a lot, with techniques, but its not overwhelming. Its more the reading that is difficult. I gotta say that I learned so much info from the articles that I really appreciate it. I found that the teacher is totally fair if you show him respect. He's big on that. He's cool and very funny, just different funny
Prof. Omidi is super handsome and fashionable. Funny, cute, caring, and wise. :)
Taking Prof Omidi is like taking a secret. If you come to a fork in the road, you should go down it. I would totally take them again, he's not easy at all, but the class is interesting, the readings are enlightening. He doesn't suffer fools gladly for sure. A little too liberal for my taste, but otherwise excellent overall
Prof. Omidi is very intelligent and relaxed. His assignments and activities were incredibly thought-provoking. There is a ton of assigned reading for homework from various articles and books. His essays (4) require a lot of time and effort, but his expectations are clear. Class time mostly consisted of discussion and group work, which was fun.
(Taken in summer) Professor Omidi is a good teacher. He is really into politics so be prepared for some tough readings. He tends to make assignments seem a bit difficult when it really isnt difficult. He does have a good amount of pop quizzes at least once or twice a week. He is nice and professional but can be difficult to understand sometimes.
Whoa... That's all I got to say.
I think Prof. Omidi is a rare teacher. His approach is very organized, but unusual at the same time too. We Read very hard articles, but then talked about them, and honestly its some of the most interesting readings Ive ever done in school thus far. He's also a nice guy, but can also be blunt at times. I will take him for 101B too :)
Something seems odd with these reviews here: "I will take him for 101B too :" It sounds like the teacher or friend wrote that. Anyway, I took the professor during the Summer time and it was a huge mistake. If you like robots constantly telling you "daddy say, daddy do" this is the class for you!
This class aint hard if you show up. . The teacher is hard to follow sometimes. Plus he can be strict. I wish he put lectures on Canvas.
He immediately drops you if youve been absent 3 times, no matter how far along in the semester you are. Class started off with more than 30 people and ended with around 15. He does leave helpful comments on submitted assignments and if you talk to him after class or during office hours, he genuinely cares and will try to help you pass.
He makes you read grueling articles in an attempt to get you thinking but he makes everything complicated and confusing. Overly strict and uptight. Dont bother asking any questions because he will embarrass you and make you feel stupid in front of the class.
He's a good instructor, but does have some flaws in his teaching. He is strict but, he is teaching you college ready skills. He expects you to be on time, be responsible for your own life and get things done on time. No leniency whatsoever. He is also known to be tough as well, you will learn a lot however. Don't recommend this if you want it basic
i enjoyed Mr. Omidi's class. He appeared very strict but at the end of the day had a interesting dry humor. I really enjoyed going to classes . The class work was very easy to work on, because its done in groups. His readings really stresses critical thinking. Show up to class, read the assignments, do your homework and you should pass easily.
I'm only two weeks into the class and already feeling the struggle. This class is tough, and that's coming from an avid reader and writer and English major. The readings are DENSE and there are a lot of them. Granted, I'm taking it in the summer so it's accelerated but WHEW. I'm exhausted already. Please send help.
I took Professor Omidi over the summer and is honestly one of the best professors I've had (despite never actually meeting him). His readings are pretty advanced, however they are really interesting and informative. We had 3 essays to write plus 2 more which were timed. I did pretty good in every essay, but what screwed me over were the quizzes.
Great professor, you just have to work for the grade you want. If you're lazy and don't care about your classes, it's pretty obvious how you'll end your semester. Work hard, come to class, engage with the readings and try to communicate your questions and confusion during office hours if you're that worried.
I took Pejman Omidi for English 101A, and his class was not bad. He is an okay professor. He seems strict but it is nice, if you do your work and actually put your time in your work. I struggle with English and especially being my 3rd time taking this subject. I would probably take him if there arent any good professors available to take.
Im currently take Omidi in fall of 2019 and overall he isnt a bad professor. He just doesnt know how to explain what he wants correctly and he tends to make essay prompts confusing. He gives you really long readings and expects you to have read it by the next class. He tends to give pop quizzes too. Lets say that I wont be taking him again.
After a whole semester of being conditioned by his papers and lectures, I have achieved a level of enlightenment like never before. I can now understand the language of Nietzche, Trilling, Foucault, and many other remarkable individuals. Although that one Dangerous Individual paper is still the winter to my invasion of Stalingrad, as of Fall 2019
Difficult reading, you won't be able to understand most of the time, but he will guide you and inspire you on lecture. He gives full credits for all the group work as long as you did it. He grades harder on quizzes without feedback. Not that strict on essays. Midterm, final are all from the quizzes question you did, no surprise.
Omidi likes to give thought provoking articles, which if you're in college is what should be the case. Some of the concepts were difficult, but he made them seem reasonable. I like how he would use movies and music with the articles, not just pure lectures. He is very approachable and easy to talk to. He is one of my favorite professors.
Prof. Omidi is an easy grader and did not give much homework and quizzes to us. He has humor and easy to talk to. He cares about his students. Don't be shy to ask questions, he has much patience to explain to you the homework and what you confused about. I really recommend you guys can take his class!! Not much homework! Easy Grader! Nice person!!
He's alright. Not the best, but not bad either. As long as you do the work on time, you'll get an A.
Summer course. He doesn't really do any actual teaching. Assigns readings, quizzes, weekly discussions ,5 essays in 6 weeks. Makes instructions very confusing Feels like I'm on my own in this class. taking this class with two other classes but this is the only one that lacks genuine class interaction. a little disappointing.
Would not recommend to take this class with other classes over the summer. Very heavy readings and you won't be given help in trying to understand them. He overcomplicates the wording in his prompts and makes them very hard to understand. He doesn't teach at all so if you want self-growth then this class will help.
I took this class summer 2020, and would not recommend. Literally the worst professor i've had. A papers in other classes are a c at best in this class. Save yourself the headache and not take him.
There are a lot of readings, but you wouldn't fail if you forgot to read a couple. An A is definitely achievable as long as you do all of the work. There are two timed writes on two of the books. The prompt is simple and the books are discussed beforehand. There are two other essays and one research paper. Not a heavy workload. Do the work and pass
Honestly don't recommend taking him. He grades super tough, and gives a lot of work. Even simple discussions are graded like essays. Attendance is mandatory and there are a lot of better options out there. He gives a lot of readings, and his classes are super boring and vague.
This is probably the worst professor I have ever had. He is the most boring person to ever teach a class and is super annoying. I would never recommend taking this guy and if you do good luck because you are gonna be expected to do more than you signed up for. If you really want to pass this class don't take this guy its not worth it.
Strict at first, but easy going to talk to and helpful with improving my writing. The class was very interesting, had the best reading, and we had lots of discussions. The quizzes are based on the reading, and he lets you interpret it. Not an easy A, I would say, but its chill and he's a very nice teacher.
Steer clear. Least caring professor I've met. Too many readings from too many books. Doesn't care about what his class students and often belittles them for answering questions. Most students dropped his class but I thought I could make it through. Doesn't accept late work and there is no extra credit. I ended up passing but by the skin of my teeth
I took prffessor Omidi over summer. It was good amount of work, but the structure was clear. I feel like I had a good use of my time in his class.
By far the worse professor I've had... Prepare to read 5 books + 3-4 pdf text literature every week ranging from 10-30 pages long. Expect to write almost a 1-page discussion every week. Many of the questions he'll ask the class is also very complex whereas you need time to think so if no one responds, he'll belittle the class.
He is so hard teacher, and it is hard quizzes and projects. But sometimes he is a good grader.
The class is only difficult if you expect to be babysat, not educated. He will expose the real world to you. Take this class if you are looking to change your life and alter your entire perspective on things.
Would not recommend taking this professor. I usually am totally fine working for my grade but his class is impossible. He expects way too much and even if the students catch up to their work he has a VERY high standard for his grading criteria. He doesnt leave any clear feedback and is super condescending. Dont take him if you dont need to.
Defiantly a teacher I will remember. He encourages you to participate but if you say something wrong he will say so, but will also respond to good comments. I'm with a C right now but this class opens your eyes to the real world. Take it, your whole outlook on school will change forever.
He gives lots of reding, and there is a quiz every week.
Please choose anyone else in the English department. This professor is here to get a paycheck and not to enrich the skills of students. He is a very strict grader and will not let you turn in anything late or even bother to message you back if you email him. No one in my class felt comfortable expressing anything. Stay AWAY!
He has a hard exterior but is VERY caring if you talk with him one on one. Seems difficult when you listen to him, but if you take notes and do the MINIMAL reading, it's impossible to NOT get an A. 3 papers and one final exam. Very intelligent, I value his opinions and teaching abilities. Thumbs up
For someone not obsessed with dissecting English, I enjoyed his class. He can be a bit monotone but if you manage to stay awake hes funny and interesting. Theres a good amount of reading but not too bad when you think about it. Overall I would take his class again, and recommend him.
I took the 101A class with Professor Omidi during the summer. I will say it was an eye opener for my first college course with the work load. I enjoyed the class and will definitely take my next English class with this professor. The Professor was very informational and clear with the lectures and what he expected from you. Great job professor!
Be prepared to write long essays and read multiple books/small reading every week. Attendance is most definitely mandatory because you might miss important announcements. A tough teacher who is a fair grader. Also, be prepared to read in class because participation is highly encouraged.
Professor Omid is a great teacher who is really into the course material but he can get a little eccentric at times. His class requires HW every once a week and its really just to see if you've read the material, but the reading load by itself is high if your already taking alot of classes. The tests are fairly easy and passable.
Very good teacher. Pretty funny and will try to help you out. I learned a lot from the class. I usually don't enjoy my GE classes so this was a nice change. May call on you in class but only if he wants you to explain it. No presentations. Three essays. Interesting readings.
Professor Omidi was pretty cool, I took his class Fall semester 2020 and glad I did. I tried to take his 101A class for Spring, but not enough students registered for his class. He had great readings and all of the 3 essays and weekly quizzes were based on the readings he had assigned as HW. His TA Alisha was the best, always accessible and helpful
Professor Omidi is a great english teacher. I took him for both 101A and 101C, each over the summer. He is clear in grading and provides a ton of helpful feedback.
Extremely tough grader. No matter how well you think you did on an assignment, his grading will tell you otherwise.
Professor Omidi moves at a fast pace in class, but everything he goes over is relevant- take down everything he writes on the board, and go over your notes later for the quiz. Never tested us on anything he didn't go over. He's strict, but very fair, and always open via office hours. I would absolutely take him again. Very interesting reading.
beware of this teacher! he expects strict deadlines and no late work but doesn't apply that for himself. we are an asych class and he hasn't graded anything for the past three weeks. there are still assignments that he hasn't graded and we just finished our final exam. his grading criteria is confusing and doesn't give proper feedback.
Professor directions are very clear, and the readings were good. Would rather taken in person. Very hard to write 3 essays in 7 weeks, plus two exams, I feel like that's too much, thats the main issue I had.
Honestly he is a really great professor with amazing lectures. Simply because of that I completely recommend him. Although its not gonna be an easy class to pass, he asks a lot out of essays but provides you with decent feedback. Overall amazing lectures but a tough grader, I would recommend him 100% if your a strong writer already.
Mr. Omidi is a great professor and likes to be on the same level as his students in terms of respect. His lectures were entertaining and the English class felt more like a philosophy class. He is a fairly tough grader on everything though. I took AP Literature in high school before him and I truly believe that preparation was what got me an A.
He is a great professor and while his lectures have entertaining topics, they were only difficult to get through because of their length. His grading is rather tough on everything: discussion posts, essays, etc. I had some AP English experience before him and I think that preparation is what got me an A in the class.
Don't take this professor! He doesn't grade on time. The semester has ended and essays, discussions and quizzes still haven't been graded, so you don't know if you're doing something wrong. He bulk checks assignments, and if you did something wrong, you have to drop the class.
TBH he is a good teacher but he is so picky.. Be ready for him if you are trying to take him........
Very hard class but he made it about as easy as possible without compromising learning. Super smart guy.
Professor Omidi runs a tough class, but his engaging lectures make it worthwhile. Lean on study tools like unstuckstudy and the free textbook to excel. Consistent effort is key to getting the most out of this class.
He is an excellent professor. The class wasn't too difficult, as long as you follow his feedback on your essays, you'll likely do well. There is a quiz each week so make sure to go over the readings from the previous week. My only criticism is that he graded our essays and quizzes quite late throughout the semester.
awful class
i enjoyed Mr. Omidi's class. He appeared very strict but had a interesting dry humor. I really enjoyed going to his classes . The class work was very fun to work on and he really stresses critical thinking. Show up to class, read the assignments, do your homework and you should pass easily.
Prof Omidi is by far one of the best instructors I have ever had. His class is pretty tough, but he's more than willing to help. He challenges your writing skills and critical thinking skills, but at the same time improves your writing. his dry sense of humor flows flawlessly with the material of the course. Put in effort and you'll do fine.
Great professor. He gives good feedback on your essays. However, he grades assignments late. His grading is also quite tough. Gives a lot of homework readings and minimum word count for essays were quite high. If you genuinely want to improve your reading and writing, take his class. Otherwise, choose another professor for an easy A.
worse teacher.
Gets irritated when students don't keep up with readings (intimidating if you've fallen behind!), but that's fair. Can be stern at times but seems sincere about the success of his students, and is willing to help them and give them a chance as long as they show that they are going to put in the necessary effort. Solid professor.
I took ENGL 101A with Professor Omidi in Fall 2023. He's a stern professor with high expectations that you will need to push yourself throughout the entire semester to meet, but his lectures regarding morality and the nature of thought are incredibly thought provoking. Make sure to follow all of his formatting guidelines! Every point will count.
He starts to do things during the class like he called out the student and point out for small mistakes in the student's submission or something prohibited.he tried to say if the student didn't drop by him or herself he will give no credits (makes the student stressed out) for real .He can't drop by himself to a student and he has no right to drop
Profs a nice guy who you can tell is well versed in and enjoys the subjects he teaches. If you also enjoy the subject and find it easy to remember things the class should go well.
Online asynchronous class: As long as you get the textbook required and do your work easy A.
Don't ever take this professor. He is the worst professor. He didn't accept late submission and being late for class, he gave you absent even if you are late for a min.He would call you out of the class and warn you individually. If you are absence for more than 3 times he would force you to drop the class and said he won't give you F.Tough grading
Prof Omidi is a wonderful professor who is REAL. He loves his topics, wants to make you think, and makes class interesting. The class won't be easy but you're going to come out of it a stronger writer, reader, and person. Try and you'll do fine :)
Very strict, do your reading, do your homework ON TIME, show up to class ON TIME, keep up and you'll be fine he's fair but he is stern but it's not that deep just do your work you'll be alright I personally liked him and his class but I did everything on time and wasn't late and I'm great at essays now so it worked out.
Online Summer Term ENGL-101C: - Doesn't reply to emails - SO MUCH WORK, you want to get ahead, but you can't because modules unlock every week - Weekly quizzes, discussion boards, TONS of readings, TONS of essays - Super confusing & unorganized Canvas + barely any directions - Not enough time for quizzes (30 min) - Midterm is a timed essay(120 min)
Different type of class! Reflective assignments that make you think! Very interesting! Mr. Omid is a gem!
Don't take classes with this professor, hardest online English class ever. So many papers, tons of homework, barely any time, tough grader, messy canvas, overall terrible.
Professor Omidi is one of the most memorable I had in my academic career. His course influenced me well beyond the class, and I remember well the intellectual stimulation and personal growth.
Slow grader. No rubric so make sure you know how to write. Readings were interesting but tedious. 30 min quiz almost every week and 2 hr final/midterm. Wish there was more time. 5 essays (3 were 5-6 pgs) which I thought was a lot for 7 weeks but they weren't bad. Class wasn't hard just a lot of work. Readings really were good tho. Just okay 🤷
I had this class over summer in 2024, for context it was an extremely condensed course and along with this I chose this class as a High school freshman for dual enrollment. Personally his class had made the biggest impact on me as an individual, the readings were profound and compelling. The group discussions were incredibly interesting overall.
His class is pretty fun, but there is a LOT of reading necessary for the weekly quizzes. It's difficult to get a full score on essays/writing assignments (mostly 80s/90s). Also a slow grader, takes weeks/months for essays. Won't tolerate tardiness/absences or late work at ALL, but the topics are interesting and I came out a better writer.
