Took her class by chance and turned out to be a wonderful experience. Lectures are intersting and very informative. Exams are not hard. Just have to read the chapters plus she gives u a study give that has the questions that will be on the exams.

Her english is broken.. She is VERY Liberal and as a Republican, my views and opinions were wrong. The overall class is easy. Get the class to push for just essay tests cause her multiple choice tests are impossible.
She fu**ing rocks, one of the best professors i have ever had since being in SJU for the past four years. As for her tests she gives a direct outline as to what will be on it. NO papers no hassels, great lady!!!!!!!!!!

She's very nice. Some interesting topics and discussions. 3 tests, essays/mulitple choice. She gives you sample questions beforehand. Just do the reading througly and you should be fine.
The class wasn't anything to brag about. I expected better. 3 exams that consist of essays and multiple choice questions.

She gives SO much work! She gets off topic and rarely teaches! She will have you read a book, write reports, do homework etc, alll at the same time. It's easy, but so much work and such a waste of time. She takes attendance and points off your final if your absent or late!

I dont know what to say. Harder than I expected and she does not go over everything that is going to be on the exam. I would not take her again because I wouldnt know what to expect. 3 Tests and a writing assignment that took 2 months to give back! This pressure isnt for me!!!!!!!!!

Very good class. A lot of work. Gives 3 Tests, Easy If you do the reading which is easy. The paper, you copy out of the book. Whoever said this is hard shouldnt be in college. This is one of the easier courses in Sociology. Plus she is funny and interesting.
THE class was alright. First exam was tough. She takes too long to give you back ur exams and papers.
He didnt give as much work when I had her (a few years ago). I would recommend the class to anyone who can actually read a textbook and answer questions. If you cant handle that task, maybe you should be in Queenboro Community. Easy course

Had her my first semester at SJU. Very helpful and sweet. Failed the midterm, but rallied to get a B+, getting an A on the final. Participate and go to class is a plus.
One of the best I've had at SJU. Little language barrier but makes everything clear and understandable. Barely any tests, just show up, pay attention and do a little of the readings.
Worst teacher imaginable, she first talks about how we have to do a project for 40 minutes, then spends next 15 minutes about how "beautiful" his students' questions are, then 15 minutes. deviates very much from the topic, bearly teachs any avoid her at all cost, if u can

She's not a great teacher but her assignments make you think. You actually have to know some of the material and read the textbook in order to do well on her tests. She makes evaluate and does things in a particular order so that you learn. She also rambles a lot about the assignments though. She wastes class time so that takes up half the period.
i did more work in this class than any other class i took, which is sad. dont take her, too much work. the papers were ok and the assignments were kinda fun, but it really is too much to do at once. if you do get her, do the plays and events asap. get those over with. read the hamill book, skim through the text. try to avoid getting her.
honestly she does require alot of work for a DNY pro but just PARTICIPATE PARTICIPATE and PARTICIPATE and she'll assume you know whats going on...read the text skim the hamill book and she gives away some quetions in class...I got an A..trsut me its POSSIBLE..nice lady just get on her good side...i enjoyed the class! NOT TOO SHABBBY!

dont take her, you can get better dny professors. all she talks about is how organized she is and ends up giving you back all the papers [which is a lot] at the end of the semester. to top it off she's a heavy smoker, so the papers she gave backsmelled like smoke. AVOID HER!!

Not an easy teacher. Only a textbook and Ric Burns boo to read but its important to memorize dates and people. You must particapate, attend a play and a DNY event. Group project and the end and a final. She has her favorites and will always call on them to answer quetions. GET ANOTHER DNY TEACHER IF YOU CAN!
She get's off topic a lot and says things that are never going to happen. A lot of the students in my class did not like her but I thought she was a decent professor. Her views and experience of immigration are integrated into her DNY class. She has a very funny aura to her.
this liberal feminist makes an entertaining professor. most of the classtime was spent in disscussion. she follows the text so it's not hard to study for her. she practically gives you the answers for her exams. she's great!

One of the worst teachers in stjohns. I was excited about taking dny thinking it was going to be fun but i was wrong. She gave too much work for a DNY class. The only amusing thing is her funny accent. Dont take her you have to do a 10 PAGE paper!!!!!!!
If you have her for DNY drop her. I could write an essay on how horrible her class was. If you are a undeclared and want to work really hard for a good grade in DNY whatever, but if your a Pharmacy major like me and can't afford to devote loads of time or a bad grade just drop her. She is a very unclear professor. Some days we do not do a thing in class. Participation is a must and she goes around the room to invovle each person in the class. She never gave any of the assignments back so far. She really grabs the grades out of the air. I have an A- and just come to class every day ! I would not take her again.

Probably one of the worst teachers I have ever experienced. Extremely unclear in her teachings, never get anything back so you never know how you are doing, and just rambles on pointlessly during class time. If you have a choice...DO NOT TAKE HER, you will definitely regret it.
Honestly one of the worst professors EVER. Terrible accent, rude and unprofessional. If you're a freshman, you're required to take the stupid DNY course but I'll warn you: by all means AVOID THIS TEACHER. She is BORING, she doesn't return papers so you're completely in the dark with regard to her grading system, and she's obnoxious.

Easy prof. If you tell her that you saw Janis Joplin in Monterey, TX or that you saw Janis coming out of an elicopter in Woodstock...you get an A. Tell her that your father was in the same school with Janis at Port Arthur and she will love you. Tell her also that you are Panathinaikos fan and that you hate Olympiakos.
wow horrible teacher. expects soooo much and its just DNY! expects high participation in class. calls on you and interogates you even if you say you dont know the answer. I put so much work into that class and only ended up getting a B-
err... really cheerful professor upfront, but she's the type that smiles when she secretly dislikes you. TRIES to be organized, but most of the stuff planned for the lecture that she jots down on the agenda on the board won't even be completed by the end of the week. expects plenty from her students. grades a bit unfairly.

she is one of the best teachers in my opinion. before starting this class i was scared due to the reviews on this website but if u do all the readings and participate your guaranteed an A. the readings are literally two pages from Tomes history book and althought its alot from foner's book she literally gives u a week to do it. class is an easy A
Had her for Soc of Prisons. I learned a lot in the class, shes very enthusiatic about this topic. She really cares about helping the students but she goes about it in an irritating way. She spends half the class time lecturing us; not about the actual class but about displinary things as if we were a kindergarten class. She expects absence notes!

She really knows a lot about this subject and if she is able to get through the class without giving her daily 35 minute lecture about how to take notes and why not to text message, then you're golden. Use the textbook to review for the tests.

She is kind of weird and has a very thick accent. The class requires a lot of reading. about 50 pages of a novel a week. Overall the class is simple. She goes over the questions before the test.

She is boring and horrible! She rambles on for three hours and repeats the same information without being clear. She is a very tough grader. You will not get an easy A. She has a heavy accent and laughs at her own jokes. In conclusion she is wack.
Best advice:DO NOT TAKE HER! She is insane and teaches you absolutely nothing. Can't understand a word she says because of her thick accent and she makes no sense when she opens her mouth! Goes on for 3 hours about nothing and argues when you speak. Ask her a question she won't answer it and will get mad if you say she didnt answer the question.
Do not take her for DNY! For Sociology, she's a pretty good professor once she stops rambling about how the class should act. She goes over the material and explains unclear theories, gives examples, and asks us to contribute to the class. If you talk a lot, she'll love you; I got a horrible grade for the M.Term but she gave me a B+ because I talk.

I took her for DNY this semester and it was terrible. All she does is ramble all class and if you ask her a question she doesn't know how to answer it. Don't take her.
Ended up with a B+ in her class. She may be nice but boy, do you have to suck up to her to even get an A. By the way, she doesn't like when students use laptops and all she does is spend the whole day talking about what she is going to be doing next week. Her class was so boring!!!
BEST ADVISE>Skim the articles.Be the 1st to participate( 2-3 key points) and you can chill the rest of the class. I NEVER READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE BECAUSE "AINT NO BODY GOT TIME FO DAT." Write down her examples/fav words. Papers are easy if you take good notes of what others/she say(s). If she gets "excited" WRITE IT DOWN! EASY A. BE SMART PPL.
She is very helpful as long as you participate in class, make comments every now and then and answer her questions. She might be a little confusing at times but overall she makes it a very interesting, dynamic class. I would definitely take her again, but keep in mind attendance and participation are big with her.
She is completely unorganized and doesn't stick to the syllabus. There is no schedule to when she assigns work and she often says she will post something on blackboard and then doesn't. She doesn't grade anything until the very end of the semester and allows no late work. The feedback that she gives is very vague and makes no sense. DO NOT TAKE!
I took this class online so obviously theres a level of self-learning. Dr. Papazahariou obviously really knows what she's doing and is passionate about her field. Sometimes instructions can be unclear about when assignments are due and where things are located on blackboard, other than that, if you do all assignments you'll be fine.
I really enjoyed Dr. Papazahariou class. Her class is very interesting and also she grades her students fairly and is always willing to help. She cares about her students a lot . I will definitely recommend her.

I'm not sure what class the people below me took, but avoid this professor at all costs! Sure, she is passionate about her field- but prepare to wait months to get any feedback about your work. When you do get a grade back, it is already far too late to improve. If you ask for clarification, you will end up more confused than where you started.
She gives you the grades at the end of the semester and by then its too late for you to do anything about it. Tough grader and unclear grading criteria. I wouldn't bother with this one.
Boy was I wrong to take this class. Super unclear when it comes to grading. She grades things too late and doesn't really let you do anything to boost your grade. You're also graded on a pretty minimal amount of stuff (at least in the online class), and she makes discussion posts worth the same as papers, but only assigns like 3-4 posts.
Overall, she was a pretty good professor. She cares about her students and wants everyone to pass. She is extremely passionate about the subject and knows what she is talking about. I actually enjoyed the class and learned a lot from her. There's a midterm, paper, and final for an overall grade.
She will talk the whole class about nonsense, get lost in her thoughts, and will give you mixed and unclear dates for tests. Save your grade dont take this one.
Signed up for this class under a different prof but she ended up teaching the course. Discussion posts are the same as the writing assignments. She expects you to be in depth in 3-4 pages but asks a million questions to answer. I'm convinced you can only get an A if you regurgitated the entire textbook. I don't know why people are so harsh. There was a midterm, a paper that was based on documentaries instead of a research paper, and a final. Both tests she posted prior review questions. If you actually take your head out of your phones and laptops and participate she will be generous with your grade and you may actually learn! Great Professor
Don't take her. She does not specify what she wants in the final paper that is worth 30% of your grade. She went over the paper many times for my class, but about useless details. I included everything she asked for but she said I didn't specify enough, but it was a 3 page paper and I gave all the main points. I got 90+ on everything else.
This might be one of the most boring classes I've ever taken, but you can tell she's passionate and loves what she does. She gets excited when students interact but she's easily thrown off by questions when students don't understand a topic. The material is super easy to absorb and her 90% of the tests reflect her study guides.
The overall rating and ratings provided by students who had her are pretty accurate. Her study guides are useless, her test questions are incomprehensible (so you'll probably get a lot of wrong answers), and she gets irritated if your answers aren't what she wants. For your sake, I highly recommend that you don't have her in ANY class she teaches.
You can tell she's clearly into what she is teaching however, I will say there is an accent barrier. We only had gotten 3 tests for the entire semester. 2 of which were online, the final was online too but in person. Participation definitely matters you will fail if you don't show up. And a lot of the time the content is just her getting off topic.
She was so annoying, always talked about how you should come to class on time because attendance matters. (she should stop caring because if someone doesn't want to come that's not her problem). Takes grading personal, very unprofessional, easily offended when trying to make your point. Almost called security on me for asking for a conversation because she hadn't responded to my email and has refused to grade my final paper. A in all 3 exams and received a C. Your mom could be dying and she'd still expect you to show up to class.
She is very harsh when it comes to attendance so if you are not really prone to coming to class I would not recommend her. You can tell she is very passionate about what she teaches, but the class itself is so boring that it's hard to pay attention. She would call on you if you make eye contact or if she sees you are not paying attention.
I had a great experience taking this class! The class was very enjoyable for me! Her accent is not heavy and she very clear when speaking. Attendance matters and so does participation! Do her assignments, read your articles, and you will be fine. The only thing is she can go on a tangent sometimes because of how passionate she is about the topic.
Most of her lectures were repetitive information about things that didn't relate at all towards lecture or exam material. Open book exams but the information on the lectures and textbook rarely apply, and even if they do it really seems like she doesn't proofread her own exams.
