Dr. Blake not only has a passion for teaching, but also for our veterans of war. She is not too hard, but if you need help she will be more than willing to assist you. Also, a great lecturer. You will not be bored.

Dr. Blake has excellent speaking skills. She makes her lectures extremely interesting. I barely had to study for test because I could remember what she said in class. Tests are mainly from her notes and she even outlines them for you. Take this class!

I can't possibly say enough positive remarks about Dr. Blake. Only, let me impress upon you that so much information flows from this woman in a single lecture that in one semester I used up 3 spirals and 4 pens taking notes. Take good notes and you'll do great on her tests.

One of the best professors at RVC! Such a sweet lady who has a way of teaching so you enjoy class. She lived through the era she teaches about so she has her own personal anecdotes and jokes. She has no attendence policy but the way she teaches with video and music makes you not want to skip.

Dr. Blake is lecture based but she has a way of talking that the info just sticks with you. I loved her sence of humor and intersting views on life. She has a very good sence of style too. I never thought about skipping class even though she has no grading policy. She actually made learning fun.

Dr Blake is a great teacher, although she pushes her judgments into her lectures a bit much, she gets the information across very well. You wont want to miss her lectures because they're just so interesting. Tests can be kind of tough, but if you just listen, you'll do fine.

Dr. Blake is one of the best profs at RVC. If you take good notes, there's no reason you shouldn't do fine. Keeps your attention by sharing interesting historical background and little known facts about the topic of discussion. She does tend to push her conservative views in class at times, but this doesn't affect her teaching at all. GREAT prof!!!

I am now taking Dr. Blake for the first time this semester (summer). She is the best teacher I've had so far. Her class it a lecture class. Its a very nice lecture class though. She makes it very interestering and makes it sound more like a story. I find it very easy to remember the information for the test. I find the tests faily easy.

Easily considered the best professor that I have taken at RVC. She has an outstanding way of presenting the material in a way that captures the interest of her class (even if the material itself isnt too interesting). Not super easy, but very fair. I encourage all who feel she makes class fun and interesting, even if Hum. isn't your favorite subject, she did make it your favorite class for the semester. I don't think her tests "easy" I think they are fairly challengeing, it's just that she is great

I took her 212 class last semester and I'm taking two other classes with her now and I just love it. She hardly uses her notes since she knows everything so well, and shes one of the nicest people ever. There are about 5 tests or so, all multiple choice, with essays on the final. Take her if you have a chance, because I'm glad I did!

I have had her for 112, 114, and 212! 212 was by far my favorite! She does such an outstanding job of being captivating that I would forget to write my notes. You must take notes and read the required books or you will not do well in the class. Its easy because she has such a way of teaching the material that I LOVE History now! I use to hate it!

Professor Blake is a very good teacher, she gives extremely interesting lectures. She really captures your attention all class. My only gripe with her is she's a conservative republican, and her tests and material reflects this. (pro Nixon, iraq war, etc.) Answer the tests the way she thinks, not according to truth necessarily, and pay attention.

She's a great teacher. You will need to attend and take good notes on the material. The test is basically all lecture; the book isn't enough. About 10% of each test is book-based. Recommended.

Wow!!! I find myself sitting in class, not even keeping track of time (like I do in other classes), and when I realize there is "only" a half hour of class left, I'm disappointed! If you can possibly get into one of her classes, DO IT! You won't be sorry!

She draws you into the time period she's teaching and makes it interesting. Really makes you think about how the people lived. She draws you in to reflect on how you would live in that time frame. I was a student of Dr. Blake's years ago and went on to school in another state where I still in my PhD program. In all of the class work I have had since RVC, there has been some aspect of Blake's instruction come to my mind. No other professor has made such a positive impact in my life as Blake.

Dr. Blake is an amazing professor! Take her any chance you get! She has a passion for what she teaches and it shows! It makes class with her awesome. We had about 6 tests including a final. She gives out an essay after every class and collects them at the end of the semester. We also have a test on a book we picked to read for class from her list.

Her class isn't easy, but if you read the little assigned reading, and take good notes you should do well on her exams. Weekly essays only have to be one page and are easy to write. Very little study time needed outside of class.

Easily the best professor at Rock Valley College. Dr. Blake wants you to do well and as long as you do what she asks of you, you will pass her class. A little strict on the attendance, but the class is heavy on lectures, so if you miss a lot you will not do well.

Took a subject I was absolutely dreading and made it my favorite class to attend. Made it a point to have her next semester as well. Easily the best teacher I've ever had.

She gives her lectures in a way which made the class super interesting. You are expected to take your own notes based on what she says in her lectures. if you right down just about everything she says, you will do good. You also have to read a lot out of a book and also a textbook in order to even know what the test questions are talking about.

I have now taken all of Dr. Blake's classes and can't say enough. Zero homework, very little writing, and you may have to read a book depending on which class you take. She uses textbooks but I didn't even buy them and got away with an A. Highly recommend.

I adore Dr. Blake!! I have taken all of her classes even though I didn't need the credits. She is a joy to listen to. Take detailed notes and do your reading and you will pass with ease.

This professor is a brilliant She really is a legend. She tells a story like no other. She really should be a University Professor. I never will forget her. She is one of the greatest professor I have ever took. I never will forget her spellbinding lectures.

The BEST teacher I have EVER had in all of the schooling I have had. She is amazing. I didn't want her class to end. Class periods flew by. I will never forget her or her class. Not a big homework load. Take good notes and you will ace her tests.

Great Class with a great Prof. If you never had an interest in history, you will now. Genuinely cares about her students and gives multiple opportunities for Extra Credit. Although, she is a bit of a stickler on her essays.

Tremendous Professor

This is my second class with her and she is awesome!

She is one of the best professors I have ever had. She made my 3 hour classes fun and interesting. I never wanted them to end and before starting any of her classes I hated history.

Was dreading humanities but she keeps it interesting the entire time! Only a handful of easy essays, no HW. Don't buy book, she rents one out at the library and you barely need it anyway. Tests aren't hard if you pay attention and study. Taking 212 in the fall! She's great, highly recommend!

I've taken all 3 of her classes. She is a fantastic speaker and teacher (I think everybody knows already). Just remember to show up to every class, take detailed notes, do not skipped assigned readings, follow instructions carefully, and you will get an A too.

She is by far the best teacher I have ever had. I have taken all of her classes and she has no trouble at all keeping your attention during her class. She does not have a biased view on history at all and only tells the truth. She has no problem discussing something with people if you find something to not be true. Wonderful teacher! :)

She has complete control of a full classroom and keeps everyone's attention for the entire class period. Don't plan on getting out of class early-it's not going to happen! That's okay though because her lectures are great.

Dr. Blake is one of the best professor's I've had at RVC!! As long as you take good notes, don't goof off, come to class on time, and are respectful, you'll do fine! Her tests aren't hard if you just study you're notes. Pay attention and write down what she puts on the board!! Her classes are seriously the best classes at RVC!!

She is an awesome teacher, and person. She is obviously passionate about what she does. She is not a pushover, and is the type of person you willingly respect without thinking about it.

This prof is the best teacher I have ever had. She is very clear in her lectures and the topics, if you like them, she will make very fun and inviting. I took all the classes she offered regardless if I had needed them or not. She had many fun and interesting facts that she has picked up from her years of research and teaching. Take her.

Best professor at RVC. Crystal clear on what she expects of you. Learned a lot about WWII. Interesting lectures. Study and you will pass. Only thing I didn't like was tests had a lot of none of the above, all of the above questions which can be tricky. But I would recommended her to everyone! I have the upmost respect for her.

Professor Blake is such a gem on the RVC campus. If I would've known about her earlier, I would've taken all the humanities I could. She speaks with such authority and poise that you can't help but be inspired to do something great with your life. Forget professors, if there were more people like her, this world would be a better place.

My favorite professor I've had by far. I took her once a week class for almost three hours and she makes it go by very fast and gives amazing lectures. Her tests reflect her lectures perfectly and she makes it very clear and what she expects you to know. Take her and I promise you won't regret it.

She was a tough grader, I definitely worked for my grade but her WW2 class was so interesting it didn't seem like work 90% of the time. GO TO CLASS, she WILL drop you if you don't. She does set pretty high expectations ( take a test in a tornado) but teaching wise she is awesome.

Prof. Blake is an amazing teacher. Her class is all lecture, but she keeps the whole class engaged. There is a weekly paragraph assignment, all due at the end of the semester. There are 4-5 exams-the questions are taken right from her lectures-make sure you take good notes. There are 1-3 question from the textbook so you could get away w/o reading.

Taken two of her classes. Best professor at RVC. I really enjoyed her lectures and may take another one of her classes.. just for fun. She is passionate about the material and it really shows. She gives you her expectations the first day and offers extra credit (that's actually fun to do). Show up, pay attention, and you will pass.

I enjoyed taking her Hum 114 class, the substance and her lectures were very interesting. Some reading and few tests. Mostly lecture based, so attendance is a must to pass this class

Dr. Blake was an amazing teacher, made the material very interesting and fun. I would recommend to take her! Tests are tough but just read the books, study real hard and you will be fine. You HAVE to take good notes, she doesn't provide any power points so make sure you pay attention and take EXTREMELY good notes. I would definitely take her again

The best class I have taken yet!

Dr. Blake is one of the best professors I've had at RVC. Her lectures are wonderful, and it is evident that she has an immense knowledge of what she is teaching. I wish I could take all of her classes.

Great professor, and this class specifically is her baby. However I noticed a political undertone when she taught, she'd make sly comments about political candidates she found unsavory and it bothered me. Still a good, fair teacher with interesting lectures.

A great professor, really cares about her class. Makes lectures interesting. However, all her courses are extremely since they meet weekly. Very lecture heavy, but tests are so close to notes taken from her lectures.

If you like to skip class DO NOT take her classes, you won't pass. Exams are based completely on lecture notes and she doesn't provide powerpoints. She also doesn't use eagle or post exam dates she will tell you in class a week ahead of time. The exams were hard but her lectures are amazing and I genuinely loved going to this class.

Textbook not needed. But you will never ace an exam without it. But you can get a solid B. Lectures are fast pace, record them on digital record. No computers or phones allowed. She offers great extra credit. Exams are pretty easy. Every class She will have words on the board. Know everything related to those words.

Class meet once a week for a 3hr lecture. Only got graded on 4 tests 1 paper and weekly one page opinion papers. Everything that was on a test was always covered in the lectures. I never opened my book once. I went to all the lectures. Dr. Blake gave amazing easy to understand lectures. Final was optional if you hadn't missed more than 1 lecture

She has amazing lectures. If you don't like history now, that will change. She is awesome and I look forward to having her again. I would highly recommend her classes, she is great at what she does! Extra credit is always a good way to boost your grade. Opinion based essays are easy points as well. Attendance is important, you won't regret it.

Professor Blake is great. She loves what she does and makes learning in her classroom really special. It is very lecture heavy, but tests are based of her lectures. She makes the information interesting and shares a wealth of knowledge to her students.

She is a radiant individual, and I miss her lectures greatly. I have never come across an individual that is such a strong passionate communicator, she was born to educate, and she is very intelligent. She is a great example of what an educated female mind should be.

By far the best Professor ever! I would take her over and over. During her lectures she tells them like stories and does so with such emotion for each subject. She grades fairly. I have found my role model, she is Amazing.

If you want to pass; GO TO CLASS. All of her notes are from lectures. Other than that, she is a very caring person who does care about her students. Example: I had to miss a test due to family emergency. Though have to write an essay to make up for it; she didn't ask for it till the finals which gave me plenty of time to write. I would recomend her

If you get the chance to take Blake, TAKE HER! best professor I've ever had. She tells her lectures like stories, and genuinely loves what she does (and it shows). Even if you're not into art and the histories, you will love this class. barely had any homework, just weekly essays that weren't due until the end of the semester and were easy. 10/10!!

First humanities class I've taken and I don't know how my experience could have been better. Professor Blake is absolutely brilliant and will do everything in her power to convey her knowledge to you. You must read the textbook if you want to get an A on the tests. The work she assigns isn't hard if you put effort into it. Overall amazing class!

I genuinely mapped out my whole entire second semester just to make sure I got all of her classes in (for pleasure, not just for the credits) before she retired after Spring 2019. Never have I ever been so interested in and enthralled by lectures before.

Professor Blake was literally my favorite professor I have EVER had. I genuinely looked forward to her class every week. She genuinely cares about her students and is so passionate about what she teaches. Her workload is not at all overwhelming and if you take good notes, you shouldn't have a problem at all on her tests. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Professors can make or break a class. Dr Blake is one of those professors that "make" a class. Her lectures are engaging and she is passionate about the material she is presenting. As long as you show up to class and take good notes, this class will be easy. Dr. Blake is one of my favorite professors and I highly recommend taking any of her classes

Blake is by far the best teacher ever. Shes lecture heavy, but no matter the material its never boring. She allows you to not take final if u dont miss more than 2 classes. Dont need book, if u show up youll be fine. Shes a TRUE inspiration. TAKE HER!!! You wont regret it.

Dr. Blake was by far the best professor I've had at RVC. She is so caring and makes it obvious to students. Her lectures are far from boring, and really easy to pay attention to. There are weekly essays but they are all opinion based and fun to write. She does require reading for the tests, but the book is provided in the library.

I have never learned more valuable information from another professor. Very sad to hear she will be retiring. She will always be the gem of Rock Valley!

Easily the most enjoyable class of my life. The way she teaches the material is second to none and she always finds a way to make you look forward to her next class. She is the most informative and likable professor Ive had to date. Unfortunately, she is retiring and I was a proud member of the last class of her career. I loved every minute of it.

Writing this review a few years after taking the class but I can hands down say she was the best professor I have had. I have since gotten two masters degrees and have had various other professors to compare to. As someone who wasnt that into history going into the class, I came out with a lot of knowledge and a new found interest in the topic.
