Gave too many stupid little homework assignments. Very nice person but her teaching style isn't that great.

I think she is a really great professor. I know not all of the people in my 110 class like her but they all loved her in my 250 class. She is a very intelligent woman and i really enjoyed both of her classes

I thought this class was amazing.. and Penelope did a great job teaching it.
this professor is unexplainable.. she dresses inappropriately for a 40 year old woman... everyone in my class hopes and prays that she doesnt show up for class and then when she does we all hope that we get to leave early.. if u get her drop the class asap!!

She is a great professor. She made the class fun and entertaining. If you needed help with anything you can go to her. The study guide is the only homework. If you do that you are getting a good grade.
Didn't like her at all. She was absent frequently, late to class, and her assignments wern't good for our level.
I loved Sex and Gender with Dr Herideen. She is a great professor. Great class. I would definitely take a class with her again!!
sex and gender was amazing. theres no tests so as long as you keep active with reading its a breeze. you just have to do the reading. small price to pay for no tests.
she sucks as a teacher. doesn't explain anything on the syllabus so make sure if you have any questions ask right away! she wants everything typed and stapled and you must have a 3 HOLE PUNCH! "she doesnt carry one in her back pocket" shes a bad teacher i just dont like her at all.
She was a good professor. Her tests were easy. However, she gave a lot of book work and a final paper. She likes discussions more than direct book reading in class. Most of your work you do independently. In class its more general discussion than direct book analysis.
It was great to take a class with Dr. Herideen. She knows the material inside and out and spends a lot of time letting people discuss/express their opinions. To the whiners: it's not too difficult to read a syllabus. Do the reading, do the writing, & put it in your folder. Ta da!
She was not at all helpful to students and provided little feedback or interest in student progress.
sexest against men!! also she tries to bring new-age spirituality to her class
She has a very different teaching style. She tells you in advance exactly what the questions on the exams will be. There is mandatory writing done every week (that takes about 1hr to do) and she collects it in a folder at the end of the semester. Do your work and you will be guaranteed an A. Barely any "studying" to do for her exams
One of the best professors at HCC! Take her Sex and Gender class and you will enjoy it!
one of the worst professors at HCC She doesnt grade in a timly manner and sends out inappropraite emails. Clearly has stated she is over worked and under paid, she makes her students suffer because of it, and doesnt give out fair grades. Students in my class have maintained a 3.8 gpa or higher and are recieveing failing grades. She's just horrible.
SHE WAS PROBABLY THE BEST PROFESSOR IVE HAD IN MY 2 YRS AT HCC SHE GIVES YOU WHATS ON THE TEST IF YOU JUST PAY ATYTENTION SHE TALKS FAST BUT THEN EASES UP ON THE TEST ONLY 10 QUESTIONS AND SHE GIVES YOU WHATS ON THE TEST essays evey wk in a folder a journal that you write your feelings test are straight foward no curve balls i give this teacher A
Professor is rather scattered, and is not clear in her instructions of the class. Does not explain herself, as far as assignments, which are many in the class. All questions are to be answered in full essay form, please keep that in mind. Also answer and respond to lots of other peoples discussion questions.
She's nice and enthusiastic but she's incredibly scatter-brained, talks way too fast, doesn't stay on topic, and has that annoying smugness that she just can't help showing off. She keeps going on about meditation and yoga, and is pretty biased for teaching a class where you're supposed to stay objective.
Taking her class online. She is incredibly disorganized. Assignments are missing from the main interface where students are most likely to get them, but are crammed into the course outline which is basically a cluttered text page. Assignment due dates are mixed and unclear; some correspond to this semester but most are referencing last semester.
Awful class.. warning there are essays due every week
AWESOME! Let me assure you, this teacher will make you understand more about Sociology. She def has a different style and yes you have to write some short essays, but they were all very easy essays that I literally did the morning before.I got an A in this class and didn't even feel like I had to try. If you failed this class, it was your own fault
I took Conflict and Resolution on-line. Had been looking forward to it but was terribly disappointed by teacher's lack of organization and attention to the class. On the day grades were due she still hadn't graded five of my papers. By that evening she gave me an A on all of them but doubt she read any of them. Curious how she is in the classroom.
Easy class, does not grade quickly-second half of the class she was at least 5 papers behind. Took her class online and often she did not unlock the work on time,if you sent an email she would act like she didn't know what you were talking about. Also, I hate professors who ask for your opinion than tell you its wrong because its not their opinion!
Everything was 100% clear what to do & when it was due etc. She was always willing to help & always responded 2 emails within 24 hours. There was a lot of writing, but that’s the same with most classes. If I was able to keep up with this class and pass it nobody should have a problem with it, seriously. If this were ebay she would get an A+.
She's great, just keep the work done and the lines of communication open.
Took online. She had issues opening a couple of my assignments yet she says *I* uploaded them wrong (others could open them) and told me to contact Helpdesk & Offered no alternatives to submit papers for the time being; told us not to email her on weekends. Says one thing in syllabus, and then sends out an email with another. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
Does not communicate well, contradicts her own syllabus, doesn't offer great means of help, or no help at all. wants an essay every week on top of 250 word minimum response, a quiz and a chapter reading. HIGHLY demanding class. Don't take her class unless you want to be stressed out beyond being stressed out.
She is great and all you need to do is ask for help if you need it. She is more then willing to work something out.
I liked this online class. The convenience allowed me to not be on campus for too long. The material is broad thus offers a great overview on sociology vs. a narrow one. Penelope graded off of student's performance in citing textbook information and engaging into the discussions. She could have communicated a little more with students.
this was a click and brick class so it was one day a week and the rest online. She required a short response, online quiz and essay every week. Good amount of work but an easy class. Just need to make sure you do the weekly work and its an easy b+
Excellent Teacher!!! I enjoyed this class so much.
Would recommend this class but not this professor. Completely unorganized and confusing syllabus (didn't match assignments online), she says she is only online and responding to questions 3 times a week, in a 7 week class there were papers she never graded and ones that she took 3 weeks to give back. Definitel would not take another class with her.
Online content is almost always incorrect. Due dates do not match syllabus. Ignores us if we say there is a problem. Blames the computer instead. Would not take her classes again.
Not responsible for her duties as a teacher. Her class works like this: Take the quiz, do the assignment, THEN she will teach you the material the following week. You are better off taking an online course and teaching yourself because that's what you are doing in this class anyway, except you wont waste your time in class doing irrelevant things.
This was an very informative and easy class, as long as you do the weekly assignments. She does correct all the assignments once she gets a chance. I learned a lot in her class and would take her class again in the future. I took an online sociology 101 class and that class made me more interested in the other sociology classes that HCC offered.
Professor Herideen was never prepared for class, never handed back papers, and NEVER graded any of the online work. We started the semester with a full class and since I withdrew there are about 9 students left.
awful.
Took the class over the summer, by the last day of class there were still 4 of my assignments that she never graded. She didn't answer emails promptly, and wasn't very clear between her syllabus and what was requested on moodle. Definitely wouldn't take another class of hers if I could help it.
Took days for her to return emails. She didn't interact at all online, teaching yourself. It's the end of the semester and over 12 my assignments have NOT been graded! Easy A if you do the assignments. Very little feedback on assignments that were graded.
Would never take a class from this professor again. Professor does not respond to emails and does not give feedback on any assignments. I still have 15 assignments that have not been graded. Final grades were due a week ago and still have not been posted.
Seems to have great difficulty with returning assignments and grading in a timely manner. Expects assignments to be turned in on time, yet still waiting on final grades, along with multiple other assignments not graded. Took away access to the online portion so we can no longer communicate with the professor. Fails to respond to students.
Professor Herideen is a wonderful teacher. If you put in the effort, she will see it and praise you for it. She opens your eyes to the way people are around you and as a women I felt empowered by her class. I also learned alot of the difficulties men face in her sex and gender class. Great teacher, great class, would recommend to give her a shot!
Doesn't respond to students. Incredibly hard grader. Seems almost impossible to please
I took her half online, half in class Soc101 class and found her class very easy. As long as you read the materiel you needed to it was easy. She does give lower grades out at midterms. She doesn't provide a huge amount of feedback on essays though. The quizzes were rather easy, and there was no final besides handing in essays.
While I like that she gives you notes and a layout of the chapter, I could really do without the 2-3 page essays every single week. Not only this, but she's a hard grader but gives vague instructions, and doesn't respond to e-mails if you have questions about the assignment. Takes forever to grade assignments.
im taking a course with her online and the tests are pretty hard, sometimes 2 a week, and the 3-4 page essays as well. i had two test in her class the week of thanksgiving.. i know its an excellerated course, but she has not even graded all of the assignments, hardly any of them, so im not sure if im writing a good essay to her standards or not.
Awful. Teacher never answers emails, and hardly grades papers. If you do happen to get an email back from her it is unhelpful and rude. I will avoid taking classes from this professor from now on. We had a discussion post, essay, 2 page paper, and a test every week, and she cant even be bothered to grade our work.
I took a sociology course with this professor this past fall semester and I must say it wasn't easy but you learn quite a lot. The test are easy, and we did have weekly essays that were assigned to us on the reading, the discussions were also helpful. Penelope is a fair grader, do your work and you'll pass the class. Don't expect an easy A!
Seems like a very nice lady.. She is a tough grader and grades very slow.. Her discussions are very easy though.. Would take again as a professor but this class made me hate sociology
Emailed this professor about 10 times, never heard back. Never graded any assignments. Dropped the class her instructions were vague and would never communicate. Had to take up matters with the dean because she had tried to fail me after I had a medical withdrawal.
The course I took was super tough so I recommend not taking it with her. You can tell by the tests and papers that she actually wants you to learn this material. Yeah she takes forever to grade and it's harsh - but it makes sense. I emailed her many times throughout the semester to ask for help; she tried to help as best she could.
I had this professor for an online class. She took what seemed to be an exorbitant amount of time to grade assignments. I was extremely displeased with the lack of contact in this course. When she commented on a paper, the critique was harsh and without direction. Prepare to pay to teach yourself. I would not recommend this professor.
Love her, she is a little strange like all good people. You can sit back get an easy A if you would like, or you can really learn a lot from her. Knows her stuff as far as research goes.
You learn a ton. It's easy as long as you do the online quizzes and read. She's also pretty quirky.
Professor Herideen is very nice. I loved her class and learned a lot from her. She's very knowledgeable about her area of expertise and beyond that as well. Her class has a very even course load and as long as you participate in the lecture, you really can't go wrong. I'd highly recommend taking a class with her at some point.
Expects more of her students than she does of herself. For a teacher that makes many mistakes, doesn't grade papers on time and doesn't return emails, she gives students no breaks. During online class I posted an assignment "incorrectly". I posted 3 days early, but she wouldn't accept my work or let me change the way I posted my work.
This class was ridiculously hard and not in a way that was conducive to learning. Rote memorization of silly facts was the focus of tests. The emphasis was not on meaningful learning. I am all for working hard to learn, but I deplore a teacher who makes it hard to get a good grade unless you memorize every sentence of a chapter.
Will never take another class from this instructor
Professor is very slow to respond to emails, and takes forever to grade discussion posts and papers. Lots of reading and writing required. Never provides feedback
More than half of my class has dropped out since the first day. No grades are given back. Don't expect a reply on emails. Very unprepared for class. Does not talk about material, but will give lengthy exams on it. I don't wish this class on my worst enemy
The all-time worst teacher I have ever had. Ever.
Worst instructor ever!
Her course is super straight forward each week you read a chapter out of the text, write a 300 word post, take a quiz, and comment 25 words to a peer THATS IT. I found I learned a lot from this, because it was simple and straightforward and have retained the information from the course.
This class is fairly easy if you do the reading and show up for discussion. I had her Brick and Click class where attendance was mandatory. The quizzes were 30 questions and not too difficult. In class exams (midterm and final) were also bearable. She had us use a sheet of notebook paper and do 20 short answer questions.
Nothing is graded until the end of the class. I didn't realize this was a 15-day course otherwise I wouldn't have taken it. There's a chapter to read and a post to do every day, the online textbook is pathetically poorly written, and the material is DRY. I have no idea how I got an A, I didn't turn in quite a few assignments. The final is a paper.
She does not understand people with disablities and doesn't cut them any slack if they cant keep up or don't have the text book on time. she seems to think every student is on a PHD level of learning which is unfair to people who struggle wit h l earning. I WOULD NOT TAKE ANOTHER CLASS OF HER'S EVER
Very boring and the class felt impersonal because all we did was read, write a post, and take a quiz. There was hardly any feedback for anything. I don't think I learned a single thing because all I did for weeks was read a boring chapter.
I was honestly shocked coming on here to see such a low rating. She is the only teacher that I have had to email to motivate me further in the class. You have a decent amount to read and she makes you want to learn and understand the format by relating it to her life. She has an amazing personality and starts class with her favorite music...
The textbooks are dense but she gives you breakout groups to discuss and understand with each other so it's very helpful. She talks about her interests and life stories that are inspirational and can be redirected to the chapters. I had the option to take her again this semester and I did because of how amazing of a professor she is.
My 2nd year at HCC & my 2nd class with her. She is absolutely LOVELY & loves her work & class & you can tell. Her course is straight forward if you follow the syllabus & hand in you assignments on time. (had her on zoom) She was always present in her office hours if I needed to ask a question. The hw is routine & paced well just follow the syllabus
One of her online classes, I see a lot of people upset with how "slow" she grades, but keep in mind she has other classes and dozens of students to teach. This class is great paired with either her anthropology or sociology class. Knowing her personally and how she teaches helps. My favorite professor thus far. This course is alot to read and write
This prof keeps class intresting and really knows her stuff! As long as you do the work you will do well.
She doesnt help the students at all with online work, she ddidnt eben give an introduction as to how to turn in assignments and when they are due. This abomination of a woman makes everything due on sunday. She is a pain in my ass
I think a lot of these reviews are a bit tough on her, I took her online intro to soc and I did not mind it at all. You get what you put in, but I think it is pretty easy even if you don't like soc. Just make sure you do the reading and you will do fine. She was very good at getting back to me when I had online issues.
I enjoyed this class but I'm not a fan of when professors only grade the work at the very end of the course and you never know your grade until the course is completed, which is what happened in my online course.
I'm shocked by the low ratings for her. I took her online SOC class and loved it. Her grading criteria is extremely clear in the syllabus, if you don't follow it and receive a poor grade that's on you. I find the textbook very interesting and enjoy doing the discussion prompts. Prof is easy to reach and gets back to you quickly. I loved her class!
Professor Herideen's classroom holds a lot of discussion. However, for the entire semester after week 2, the lectures were a full chapter behind the homework. The weekly quizzes often included (what I thought were) irrelevant factoids. She is a busy person and expects you to support your own success. Still, not a terribly difficult course.
I was excited to take this class, but the class & the professor both turned out to be disappointing. The textbook was problematic and was not applicable to people who are not white, straight, cis, neurotypical, able-bodied, men, or Christian. When I spoke to the prof about this, she defended the textbook & said that the authors were “good people.”
I took her class this spring; she's the best professor I've ever had. Her lectures and life stories were amazing, and she has inspired me beyond belief. Weekly quizzes and 350-word responses tied to the textbook are required. Some group work is involved, but growth comes from discomfort, so don't let that shy you away from taking the course.
My grade wasn't due to any effects or side effects of Penelope's teaching; she does not teach, but refers you to the book to teach yourself. Penelope can't find any time out of her malaise to answer emails promptly and will not grade your work until she has to, either when midterm grades are due or when final grades are due.
Attendance is mandatory and she doesn't teach. Claims to love connections with her students but called me the wrong name the entire semester even when corrected. Other students who barely were present got As and never were ridiculed for their lack of participation yet that story was very different for me. Do better professor!
She took forever to grade assignments, however the assignments were not easy, it was a minimum of 350 words a week due on sunday along with a chapter of reading and a quiz on that reading. She was also incredibly disrespectful the one time i talked to her. She responded to my profesional email with a one word response and a period nothing else.
Should not be teaching online classes. Quizzes graded incorrectly and she blames it on "the robot" and doesn't fix the grades after admitting they are incorrect. Classwork was simple and the discussion questions were good. Overall I liked the class but she should not be teaching it until someone explains to her how Canvas works.
This professor is technologically inept and should never be permitted to run an online class. Not only that, but her online classes are clearly not a priority for her time and attention- you will only receive grades immediately before midterms and finals, aka when she'd get caught ignoring us by the college. She doesn't read the assigned homework.
