She is a good teacher and knows what she is doing, but she grades super hard!
Dr. Pflueger is a great prof. She grades hard but is always helpful. You will learn more than you thought you could.
Dr. Pflueger is a pretty interesting teacher but she is very difficult. You have to attend her class if you want to get a good grade. Don't be surprised if you get a low grade on your test because she grades very hard. There is also a lot of reading and a lot of work.
Pflueger is the best prof. ever! She is willing to help, understands your thoughts and will help you when in need, but she does teach a language class and the work load is not light. But she is one of the best!
Dr. Pflueger is hard, as the other raters have said, but she's one that makes everything you do enjoyable. If you want to actually learn, know that your money is being spent wisely when you sign up for one of her courses. 30-40 pages of reading a week, three tests, one paper. Not too bad.
She will annihilate your papers if she doesn't like you, using the cover of "not developed well enough". Even if you're an A to B paper writer, expect harsh grading if you're not on her list. Play goody-goody, or find another teacher.
She is a great teacher and I have learned a ton. Pflueger is willing to help anyone in whatever way she can. Take her, your writing will improve ALOT
I took Pflueger purposely for EN140, just because I liked her that much for EN100. She is very sweet and very helpful. I recommend her. You will not only meet new friends in her class, but also you will make friends with her.
I liked her all you have to do is read and write papers it's not that hard. And she's really nice.
She is really nice, helpful, and understanding, but she is REALLY harsh on her paper grading. I have never gotten lower than a B on a paper and I worked my butt off for 3 weeks on a paper to get a C if I was lucky. You'll learn and you'll have fun until you get your paper back and see your grade.
she is very helpful
Mrs. Pflueger is one of the best professors I have had at SEMO. I learned more in her class than I have in any other classes. Her teaching methods are a little unique; she likes to use workshop methods to where you print off your papers to like 20-25 copies depending on the number of people in your class. These peer-revision workshops were very helpful. I made A's and one B+ on my three papers. Her grading is harsh, especially the reading quizzes, but is she a sweetheart and is there to help when needed.
This class sucked and so did Mrs. Plueger! We had 5 people in the class and she taught it like there were at least 30. She made us read these ridiculous books and tell us how we felt about them. She took favorites just because they could understand the background readings of this book. She is crazy and I would never take her for anyother class!
Ms. Pflueger is a funny lady.
This class was really easy, but really boring. All you do is read books, discuss them in class, and take tests over them. Dr. Pflueger is a really nice lady, but she picks some really stupid books. It probably would've been a lot more fun if the books were actually interesting.
Pflueger is nice I guess, but she is not clear at all. When it comes test time she asks why this and that is significant and she never really goes over that in class. Basically if she doesnt agree with why you think it's significant she counts off. You read 3 novels, which suck, and tons of short stories out of the book, which suck. It's Boring
I thought she seemed nice at first, but her grading is extremely harsh. Even if you fix everything she tells you to fix on your paper, she could still give you a B-. She's also extremely boring!
Dr. Pflueger is a very nice and helpful teacher. She does pick favorites, which is kind of annoying. The readings are very interesting. All the tests consist of are short answers and essays that require a lot of thought.
Dr. Pflueger expects a lot out of her students. It is hard to get good grades on papers in her class. But if you are struggling and come to her for help, she will pull thoughts out of you and show you how to make your paper something original. I loved the discussions and workshops! She made me love english and understand it too.
Grades harsh but fair. Willing to help you understand anyhting you don't understand. HEAVY reading load but doable.
She grades funny. I got either A's or high B's on my papers in high school. Now, I struggle to get a B. She doesn't give very good feedback on my papers and when I try to correct what she says is bad, I still don't get a good grade.
She is a very nice teacher. Her class isn't hard but you have to be willing to d the work. She has 2 in class essays and 2 out of class papers. She is a fair grader but you have to try. She is always willing to help you with your papers. I really enjoyed this class!
Not a good teacher at all. She teaches things that are useless. I would make A's on my rough drafts, make the changes she wanted me to, and then make a B on the final paper. What was wrong? I made the changes and she still didn't like it. I would never take her again.
Dr. Pflueger is a great professor! She is helpful and organized. You must read the assigned material and are tested over the readings. She is kind and adorable! If I could, I would take her again for another class. Very good professor!
Great teacher. Hard, but its a lit class, so if you read what she assigns, ATTEND class & take notes, the tests are easy. She was also nice, helpful, & would definately take her again if have the chance!
We didn't have class for like the last two weeks of the semester, which was pretty amazing. You don't have a lot of assignments overall, only 3 major papers which she grades VERY hard. She's also very particular about how you write, everything has to be in a certain order and tie back just so, I learned a lot though!-Be sure to speak up each class
She is a horrible teacher, she would teach us useless things such as riots, civil rights, and expect us to right papers on them. It was like taking a history class, NOT an english class. She grades extremely hard and she accuses you of plagerism even if you didn't. she doesn't give you a chance to explain that its not. just automatically fails you.
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS! this is a warning..unless u are like PROFFICIENT in English. I made A's in English all throughout high school & even a sub-score of a 25 on the ACT. However, in her class it was IMPOSSIBLE to pulloff an A, barely a B! She would compliment me ALL the time, but whenever I got my papers or assignments back they were Cs or Bs!
Good professor! Assignments are easy and she explains everything really well. Only 3 major papers. She grades hard but is very helpful about what she is looking for.
Dr. Pflueger was real cool. She was very knowledgeable about English and Lit. Had a lot of class discussion and gave you a lot of time to work on papers before they were due. She was also really nice.
This is an awful class taught by an awful teacher. She shows no emotion and no interest in her students. COMPLETLEY biased. You must attend class, worship her, and agree with anything that comes out of her mouth. She grades unfairly with no explanation. Said she did not beleive in testing over the main ideas, rather the small ones. Don't take her!
Dr. Pflueger is a wonderful teacher! She's very sweet and helpful, and the class material is very interesting (given that you are mildly intereseted in the subject). Her class emphasizes class discussion and she seems to appreciate everyone's responce. Her tests were never too difficult, and as long as you listen and read the material, you're golden
Pflueger was an ok teacher. There's a lot of reading but not a lot of assignments, and her tests weren't particularly difficult, as long as you've read and listened in class. Pay attention to when the novels are coming up on the syllabus, because she won't remind you until right before you're supposed to be finished with them.
I was dreading this class @ first!but now i can truly say i learned so much and loved her!in class discussions u must speak up if u want the grade always study EVERYTHING she has covered in class be sure to read the novels! Shes very small and short but very endearing. im a english geek & shes the only teacher id take again by chocie. loved her!!!!

Big on attendance points. Very dry literature class.. Very helpful if you communicate with her outside of class. Seemed like a very nice person, who teaches a boring class.
Amazing teacher who loves what she does and informs the class very well. You can get good grades on your papers if you try and follow her advice. :)
Gives points for attending class. Clearly states expectations. Hardly any work other than papers.
Loved her!
Great teacher!! You write 3 essays total and she gives you plenty of time/ideas. I would definitely take this class again!
She grades papers very harshly, and it's difficult to please her. You pretty much have to be on her good side in order to get a good grade.
She is a GREAT teacher. I am a better writer thanks to her. She is very clear as well as helpful and I encourage everyone to get her.
She is a really good teacher and will help improve your writting skills!!!
She's a great professor! There aren't many grades in her literature class. If you want an A, you actually have to read the material and go to class, but I see people in there that might go once a week and they're passing. She's a wonderful person, though. Take this if you have a chance.
She's a great teacher. Lot of reading but it's a lit class. If you come to class and take good notes you should be okay. Tests are kind of hard but she knows how to get students interested in reading. I hated reading until I took this class. Just take good notes and you should pass. She's very nice and helpful if you have questions.
At first impression, she was pretty all over the place. But as she gets more comfortable she is really easy to talk to and is genuinely interested in your papers and whatyou choose to write on. Rarely keeps you for the whole period. Kind of dorky but she is really kind.
This professor is an amazing professor. She is extremely helpful during class. She helps her students understand the themes of the stories. Her tests are a little hard but if you pay attention and do the readings it is very easy. There is one paper assignment but otherwise very low homework. Beware of her quizzes. Make sure to read all the stories.
graded hard and had 4 papers and gave reading quizzes... gave 50 attendance points each semester. sooo boring. wasnt an easy A but wasnt impossible either. she was helpful. I got an A and slept thru the final and she let me make it up...it was a worksheet that was easy
I liked her. She is nice and loves what she does. Be warned you DO have to do her readings and ALWAYS go to class because she has a quiz like every day. Lesson learned the hard way
Dr. Pflueger is a great professor! She's kind and helpful and clearly loves what she does. The readings for the class are critical and she likes pop quizzes. However, the workload is manageable and the class discussions are very thought-provoking. I definitely recommend this professor.
She is a great professor that provides a ton of opportunities for the students to succeed. She truly enjoys discussing the literature with the students and discovering their views on the stories.
She is really nice. I'm not too into writing papers but I found this class fairly easy. You have 3 papers total, maximum 3 hours long. She likes to do in class quizzes, which are super short. She will help if you ask! The lectures aren't too terrible, but she gets you interested in the topic of the paper.Take her!
Genuinely nice and helpful professor. Very sweet and caring of her students, and there definitely needs to be more like her out there. She isn't afraid to talk about controversial issues and is very good at getting the class to participate in discussions.
Dr. Pflueger is one of the best professors I've had at SEMO. She will do whatever to help you get an A in her classes. She's understanding when you miss (or skip) class. Very detailed in her assignments and tests. I recommend any of her classes.
Dr. Pflueger is a sweetheart! She is an awesome professor, she explains more of what is assigned in the readings, makes it more easy and understandable about the written arts. Read your stories, take notes, and get ready for discussion and maybe some quizzes here and there, you will do great, no surprises if you prepare.
I thought this class was going to be easy but I was very wrong considering it was just an elective. She gives tough test and lots of quizzes. If you go to class you will pass though.
I was late almost everyday and turned stuff in late because I was way too busy and stuff fell through the cracks and she was really understanding about it all! Also the class discussions are fun and interesting. 10/10 take her
The class is student lead and based around discussion. Not many points are offered in the class, so work hard on the three papers that go in the book. She is very willing to help and is understanding. The little points in the book, however, is very stressful.
A tough grader, but she was at least consistent about it. I know she had higher expectations of us because it was an honors section.
Lets you skip 5 times per semester without punishment. Gives 13-15 in class quizzes per semester over the reading. Tests are short essay. Really easy though if you do the reason. Shes incredibly sweet and dedicated to what she does. I would take her over and over again if i could. One of my favorites.
I would recommend taking Dr. Pflueger for your literary expression requirement. You have to read a lot, but that's expected in a literature class. If you can take it online, definitely do that.
Readings (in and out of textbook) seemed to be focused on the theme of Death, most especially Suicide. Dreadful lack of actually famous authors, most notably Mark Twain. Teacher did not give good reminders on material, almost missed entire Research Paper assignment because it was placed separate on the site.
This professor is probably the worst English professor I have ever had. She does not have clear grading criteria and does not adequately prepare you for pop quizzes where one can ruin your grade. I would look elsewhere for a teacher for this class. You have been warned.
Very kind lady, gives lots of extra credit and cares about students.
Prof. Pfluegger was extremely nice and worked very well with the class. She was lenient on homework deadlines and provided good feedback. That being said, You can read summaries/themes/symbols/motifs online and pass this class easily. She also has quizzes every class. She's wonderful, but I recommend taking this class online.
Dr. Pflueger is one of the best professors I have ever had. She is so kind. In my class, we had to read a short story or a couple chapters of a novel before each day of class. The entire class period would consist of discussions with her and your classmates. Tests are easy, only 3 in total. She is a very caring professor.
There are quizzes every single day that you have to study for, but she generally does a good job of what specifically that you need to know for the quiz. And that's all the class is. Quizzes so you really have to do good on those or your grade will suffer. Easy A though if you try and study.
Unfortunately Dr. Pflueger gave me crappy in class participation grades because she didn't know my name. Repeatedly called me by the wrong name even after I confronted her that I constantly participate and she just didn't know who she was marking the grades for. I love English and usually look forward to it, but sadly she ruined that.
Dr. Pflueger is probably the worst professor I have ever had in college. She does not give clear grading criteria and will most likely give you a B or below for every assignment you turn in. Her pop quizzes cover things that are not important or relevant to the class material. Look elsewhere for a teacher. She absolutely sucks.
Dr. Plueger is not a good professor at Southeast. She does not seem to care to give feedback so that you can improve. She also lets her personal feelings get in the way of her grading. She will give you a bad grade if she disagrees with you. Personally, I would try to find another professor unless you like writing to please another person.
Second class with this professor, she's awesome. Wants the best for you. Just do the few things she asks you to do (like participate and complete your papers on time) and you will easily make an A. I have taken her in person and online and made A's in both classes.
Okay, the prof is super nice, very understanding, one time I forgot to write a paper and she let me make it up. BUT THIS CLASS IS IMPOSSIBLE. like its so freaking hard, and the material is difficult and the tests are INSANELY HARD. I would not recommend unless you're one of those insanely obsessed literary people bc it's literally so freaking hard.
Alright. This class is AWFUL. and she is so unspecific with what she wants you to study. The essays and the short answers and ID passages on tests (oh yeah did i mention they are 2 day tests!) have literally no specific directions, she doesn't tell you what to study and there is a quiz EVERY SINGLE DAY. Do not take this class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Professor Pflueger was good. The only advice I would give is to read what she gives you and you'll pretty much be fine. This class consisted of mini quizzes over readings, forums, and discussion questions with 4 papers total and 2 projects, the final and a group project. Her main weakness is the time she takes to grade.
Professor Pflueger is so kind and truly wants the best for all her students. She can be a little unspecific and can jump between subjects frequently, but she is always an email away. She is very passionate about film and cinema, and does her best to engage and teach the class the best of her ability.
she never grades assignments, so you wont know your grade for any essays or homework until the final grades are put in for the semester. extremely frustrating when you arent told about a project submitted wrong and theres nothing to do other than get a 0.
She was the most difficult and inconsiderate professor I have ever met. Grades last minute. When you ask her where you went wrong she tells you to look for her feedback if you can’t see it that’s your own. No time to correct your essays as she grades late. Our lives are dependent on these grades please
This class made me want to rip my hair out. Easy A if you have any reading comprehension whatsoever and basic writing skills. She seems nice, I guess, but if you don't vibe with eccentric all-over-the-place wine aunt types, don't bother.
Wastes students' time and energy. Shows up late to almost every single class. Says she will post homework on Canvas after class and then waits till the next day to post, which does not give students' a lot of time to get it done, especially with extracurriculars. Normally takes participation, but class feels unnecessary to show up.
Highly recommend Dr. Pflueger for this course. She is very knowledgeable in the course material and helps facilitate a good understanding for students. Be ready to read and participate/discuss in class as those make up most of the grades. Only downside is that she can be unorganized and doesn't really follow her own syllabus.
Graded very slowly and was not tech savvy. Schedule was often changed without notice of any kind. DId get back quickly to emails though.
I LOVE PENNIE PFLUEGER. She is very funny and I really enjoyed the films and discussions we had in class. The exams weren't too bad and she gave examples of what she expected for film analysis. The quizzes on the films were very easy if you watched the film. Overall, I genuinely wanted to go to this class every day.
The course was structured to be easy to maintain and complete assignments without any huge effort. The details of the syllabus were exact and she did not stray from the schedule given. Collaboration on forums with other students was necessary. Her grading style was relaxed as long as the assignments were completed within the given parameters.
This was an online class so I can't say much about her teaching style. But I really liked the class overall. Was very fun and I walked away with more knowledge of film and more films to add to my reservoir. Loved the movies. Take if you're even remotely interested in film. Class was easy.
I had this as a first 8-week online course. The course was pretty easy, with only one short paper to write. The stories we read were short stories, which were all in the textbook. I was able to find a pdf of the textbook online. We typically read a short story and then did a discussion board over it.
she's very nice and the class material is easy. BUT she's very unorganized, she consistently would show up to class late, assignment would not be available on canvas in a timely manner, she'd show up to class with not enough worksheets. nice but probably one of the most oblivious, unaware person ive ever met. nice but frustrating to deal with
Class was straight forward and somewhat easy. However, when it came to grading, she was extremely slow and but the time I got my papers back, it was already too late to drop the class! Very disappointed since I paid for this class and spent many hours typing papers only to get a failing grade
How desperately I want to give Pennie a 5/5. Her class is so interesting, she is absolutely in love with her job, I felt so bad when nobody would answer her questions, but also wouldn't want to answer because I didn't know either lol. Take her class, she's a chiller, just please answer her questions she deserves a better student than I was.
Professor is consistently 5 minutes late to every class, off topic a lot, not very tech savvy, confusing.
So frustrating. Grades so slow so I had 0 feedback for two of her essays before the first one was graded. Late to class but takes attendance. No notes on the board, just rambles on for 50 minutes. Beyond frustrated with the money Im paying for college and this is what the level of acadamia is.
