She is so sweet. She cares a lot for the students and will try every way for you to get your grade up. The work is easy and the time goes by quickly.

Mrs McDonald is a friendly and understanding instructor, but she doesn't give a review for any of the tests.

She is a good teacher. Her tests come straight from the notes which makes it easier. She goes over things whenever you need her to. Very organized, however she is always at least 15 min. late to class which is very frustrating. Other than that she is an awesome teacher.

Great class...works with you when you need extra help. Gives lots of notes and does a review before the tests...easy class if you study.

Excellent teacher. Very knowleadgeable and organized. Notes are a big help and Labs very interesting. As long as you keep up with the notes and study, you will have no problems. Some test questions a bit ambiguous but she is very fair on using a curve and tossing really poor questions.

teacher is really helpful, if you have any problems or questions, she will always go out of her way to work with the stucents to get done what needs to get done. I hate biology and she make the class interesting with all the outside information. I liked the class and am taking Bio 2 with her. good!!

Fun Biology is what I call her clas. I never thought I would be able to comprehend Biology but she did it. Her class room is hands on and she makes you want to learn and get it. So helpful great spirit about everything.

Mrs McDanald is awesome! We learned so much in her class, way beyond what was expected. We were always having class discussions and debates in which we learned from others.

She is a very helpful teacher, she has printed notes for you that have all the answers for the test. And her labs are extremly fun and helpful. But the only grades you have are labs and tests which makes it very tuff. I got an A on all the labs and D on most of the test and I know have a D for the class. Unfortuanly the test out way the labs:(

mrs.mcdonald is SO COOL! the labs are fun and easy, her tests are pretty much what we learned in class, her personality is fun, and she actually mixes interesting stories with the material, making the class worthwhile.

A great class, and I hated high school biology! A great teacher, fun, will answer any question, great notes on line. Labs are fun and graded pretty easy, however, you have to study for the tests, because she grades kinda tough. Only extra credit is a few points on exams. As long as you plan to study for exams, I really recommend this teacher.

biology is boring she made it somewhat interesting i slept in most of her classes (she didnt care) and still made an A just make sure you dont fall asleep during the live birth video

she is an excellent teacher! VERY approachable, understanding, and reasonable. you can tell she loves the subject matter and it rubs off on you. she is definitely my favorite teacher ever. study for the tests and you will do fine :)

As many classes as you can take wth her, DO. Her teaching style is fantastic, she's interesting and fun. If you take any feild trips to the lagoon, she's ready to help you with anything you don't know what it is. You have to study and work, but it's fun. I'm even an art major, and I've taken two Bios and hopefully the marine one next fall!

She is a great teacher. I can easily understand all of the concepts she presents, and, if I do have a question, she answers very thoughly. All of her notes available online, so you don't have to take notes in class. Her tests are fair. As long as you pay attention and read the notes, you will excell in her class. I highly advise taking her class.

Everyone need to understand something. Biology is a hard subject. This teacher is amazing and great but you have to apply yourself because it is a hard subject. She passes out a detailed outline for each chapter and all you have to do is study that. There is a 10 point curve on all her tests. Lots of easy labs. Study her outline and you'll do great

The bad reviews on here are from SLACKERS. Bio is hard and you HAVE to pay attention and study. Mrs. McD is an excellent teacher, though a bit scatter brained at times. She is funny in lectures and also thorough. Labs are fun. Do the work, read the notes and you'll do FINE. I never used the book though. the PPs and notes were more than enough imo.

I agree with those that say this is a hard subject ;however, with anything hard you have to work hard to get a good out. So if you have alot going on and you can,you should take this class by itself! But personally I'm thankful for her and all of her help. She's a great teacher that has been teaching for 20 years know, so yes she knows her stuff!!

Loved this professor. She knows her stuff. Her tests are medium to hard, but you should be fine if you study your notes, power points, and read the text. She is willing to help you if you need it and her grading is fair. I would highly recommend if you know you are majoring in Biology. She is an awesome teacher.

If you are not a bio major DO NOT take this class. The tests are rather hard and the lectures are long and boring. She is a very good teacher but the class requires a lot of studying. Labs are easy and help off set the grade but it is definetly not a class for slackers. She is good at relating bio things to real life which is a lot of help.

She is a great teacher. She is very good at explaining the material in a way everyone can understand. if you study the power point and her study guides very well, you will do great. I would recommend her to anyone who wants a good grade :)

A very energetic and dynamic teacher. Definitely has a passion for the subject. Loved the class so much took Bio 1 & 2 with her. Not a class for lazy people looking for an easy A. Its hard with a definite need to study, but I now have so much knowledge in biology that I can take on any premed class involving it. Definitely recommend her!

Take her. Her classes fill first b/c shes good You work for your grade;she doesn't hand it to you. Not suppose to be an easy class;This is for science and medical majors. Tests are hard;she adds 10 extra credit questions. The labs and quizes are easy;open book & notes helps bring up grade. A very clear speaker & is available to students for help.

SHE IS AWESOME. TAKE HER IF YOU WANT TO PASS BIOLOGY. SHE GIVES YOU POWERPOINTS AND NOTES THAT'S ALL YOU HAVE TO STUDY TO PASS HER TESTS. YOU DONT EVEN HAVE TO OPEN YOU BOOK. SHE IS WILLING TO HELP ANY STUDENT AT ANYTIME WITH NO QUESTION. TAKE HER SHE IS GREAT

Mrs. Mcdonald is awesome! Bio can be diffacult but she made it understandable. She is always there to help & always with a smile! Her class isnt an easy A, you have to work hard, but its well worth it, shes awesome, Highly reccomend her!

Mrs. McDonald is a great teacher, the class is hard, but the test questions are all from the notes and powerpoints. It's definitely not an easy A, but not impossible. Her lectures are long, but really help you to understand the material. She is always available for extra help. Take her if you can!

EXCELLENT teacher. She goes super slow so that you can understand hard material, really really great examples. Its a REALLY interesting class. Im not a nerd, lol, I really am learning lots of cool things about the body and stuff. Its hard stuff, but theres 20 pts xtra credit each test & get out like 30 minutes early on lab days (usually). Its FUN!

She uses angel to give good notes you can print up. Tells you whats on the test in her lectures and notes. Good teacher.

As long as you take notes, study for her tests, and complete all of the labs and quizzes you should do fine. Overall, I feel very prepared for future biology courses.

She is a bit unorganized but super nice. I didn't look at my book much after discovering her PP's and Doc outlines on Angel - not much need for the book after that. Tests are hard - you have to know the material. a lot of memorizing - but if you get that you just have to memorize and not analyze you will do good. very nice teacher.

This class is hard. I studied days in advance and still got my butt kicked. I ended up with a B, but i worked very hard for it. SHe is an awesome teacher and discussions were very intriguing, I recommend her if you want to learn and youre ready to learn and ready to work hard.

She was an alright teacher. She gets off topic very easily and she will ramble on about them for one-third of the class. She was at least 10 minutes late every day and never even apologized for it. The class was tough and the tests were as well. The labs were easy and make sure you do all the labs and keep them for the lab practical.

Mrs. MacDonald is extremely funny and helpful! I have her this semester for Bio 1 and was disappointed that my schedule wouldn't allow me to take her Bio 2 class next semester. She used the internet a lot when she teaches to help explain things. Like if we're talking about cell division, she'll pull it up on youtube so you can grasp how it works.

I enjoyed this class. The material is hard, but labs are worth a lot (40 points and you'll do 10 or more for sure) so it will help out a low test grade average. Labs are fun, too. It is hard to get anything lower than a B in here, for sure! She is a good teacher and is very nice and helpful. I recommend her highly.

Mrs. McDonald's class was a lot of fun. She helped me understand concepts that I couldn't grasp in high school biology. She's very helpful and informative, but she does give extra information that's not necessary for the test. Some of the material was confusing, but that's just the nature of the subject. Study and do the labs, and you'll be fine!

Great professor! her class is challenging but if you pay attention you will learn a lot and do well in the class. She will help you as much as you need to understand the material.

I studied my butt off and still managed to get a consistent B on all her tests, even the lab practical which was open note! But she was nice and must have curved or averaged the grades because I got an A! And that is why she is getting a glowing review from me and I recommend that you take her class! So study hard but don't give up hope in her clas

This is the best teacher for Biology 1 and 2 if this is a class vital for your major. She is very knowledgeable about her field and is a big help. I struggled at first in this class, but after a lot of hard work brought it up to an A. Would definitely recommend Mrs. McDonald. :)

Mrs. McDonald has a crazy and fun personality. Will answer questions to the best of her ability and will even get a little sidetracked to talk about it! Tests are not extremely difficult or extremely easy, right in the middle. Labs are due whenever you get them to her, as long as it's 2 weeks before the final exam. Definitely recommend taking her!

Prof. McDonald is a really friendly, engaging, helpful instructor. Lectures are interesting, but make sure you read the book on your own time, because most of her exam questions are found there. So long as you do the labs, pay attention, and study for exams you'd have a hard time not getting a good grade in this class.

She's friendly, patient and very knowledgeable. If you pay attention during class and do the quizzes for review, her tests aren't too difficult. The labs are pretty simple too, just fill out everything she tells you to and you'll get a 100. She's easy to approach, and even have after-class discussions with if you like to talk about science topics.

Very nice person who is genuinely interested in what she is teaching. That said, I did not find her Bio 2 lectures very interesting other than the supplemental stories she told. She is involved with a lot of environmental groups in the area so she is good to network with. Labs are easy and tests are hard but are open note. I would take her again.

Mrs. McDonald is an excellent teacher. She even wrote the Lab book for her Bio 1 class. The class is difficult because of the subject matter, but if you apply yourself and use her study guides then you should do well. Because of her class, I went on to take Bio 2 and am now considering a science-related field. Good luck, and happy learning!

Test are part multiple choice part short answer/ labeling. Always 5-10 minutes late to class. Studying (looking over)the notes and power points 2 or 3 times a week got me though the exams with A's and B's. Gave 15 quiz's 10 top grades kept. Explains the subject very clear and keeps it interesting.

Mrs. McDonald is an excellent professor. I'm a student with terrible ADHD and I recommend her 100%! Her tests are very hard/challenging but, if you PAY ATTENTION, TAKE NOTES and READ the text you will do fine! This is not an "easy A" class so you WILL have to work very hard for your grade!

Mrs. McDonald isn't a tough teacher, she just makes you work for your grade which she should. She made notes on all the chapters to outline what you needed to know but I would still read the book for a more clear explanation. Tests are hard so you really do have to pay attention to pass. The lectures are long and boring as well.

She is a wealth of knowledge and knows how to share that with the students. I really appreciated her passion and ability to explain the topics. Her tests are straight forward and if you study you can zip through with perfection (plus extra credit).

She is a great teacher. She is always there when you need help. She explains the subject clearly. She always gets the students interested with the topic. Her quizzes are not that hard, if you just study them. Exam are a little bit tough, so always be prepared. Overall, she is an excellent professor.

Helpful lectures for tests

McDonald is super sweet and makes her lectures fun by stories. She tells helpful hints in lectures that our questions on tests. Some quizzes are online and tests aren't too bad. Just study the outlines there exactly what's going to be on the test

Professor McDonald makes use of technology during her lectures and tries to clearly illustrate complicated structures. She fields any questions pertaining to the topic or topics related to biology and works to keep students interested in the course material. She's very helpful with labs as well.

Professor McDonald is an excellent Biology teacher. Her lectures can be very long and boring, but she attempts to make it interesting. She is always there to help, during class and at labs. Use her outlines during lectures, study them, and you will do fine on her exams. If your lazy and do not study etc, you won't do well.

Tough class! Participation if you want to pass. Labs super important for passing tests. The teacher often gets off topic and then she runs of of time to cover material for tests. The online quizzes look up answers on google quizzlet and you should get 100% on them.

Mrs. McDonald really is a sweet lady. Her tests are tough though and she does make you work for your grade. Labs are graded on completion really, and will save your overall average tremendously. Her online quizzes are as simple as copying and pasting onto google. She does not give study guides, and attendance is graded.

Though Biology is a difficult subject to me I would like to say that Professor McDonald really makes the attempt to inform you on the subject she teaches, However, by being unclear of what to actually study I found myself constantly studying without clear knowledge of what will be on the test. Mrs. McDonald Became our professor rather late in the semester due to unfortunate circumstances with our prior professor, so I didn't get the full semester experience with her. but the time I did have with her as my professor was great! Her lectures can be long but she is so passionate about biology she really makes the class exciting.

Mrs. McDonald is very passionate about biology and teaches with the passion. She cares a lot and is always willing to answer questions and provide a student help. She's funny and interactive when she teaches. But the lectures are long and full of information and may seem overwhelming but if you utilize the notes she posts on canvas it will be a big help. She gives quizzes online and test are in class. The test are 50 multiple choice questions and quizzes are 10 multiple choice. There is no homework in the class but I suggest reviewing the material that you learned in class at home. Overall it can be a tough class because of the material but Mrs. McDonald does a lot to help if you show that you are working hard and care about your grade. If I would have to take Biology again I would take it with Mrs. McDonald

I love Mrs. Penny but Beware!!! She thinks the world of biology and thinks you should too. This class took up all my time as if I didn't have any other classes. You never know what's on tests. And when you think you know vocabulary for test-try again. She's smart and has a lot of personal stories in which I enjoyed. Stare clear I say!

I took bio 1 by her, the class itself was hard but she usually explains concepts well. She shows YouTube videos that provide a good visual for the concept shes explaining. There is about 15 online quizzes, they are 10 questions each and they are pretty easy. Overall, she is a pretty good teacher.

Biology is my major so I studied really hard and took her class very seriously and I did great. If you are looking for an easy A this is not the class for you. She makes everything super clear and knows A LOT. For tests, if you want to pass, studying is a necessity. It is hard but worth it if you study and take it seriously.

A lot of lecturing but is willing to help you understand it all. Very light hearted spirit and easy to talk to for help. It can be difficult to reach her outside of the classroom. Overall, not a bad class and really fun labs.

Took this class as a hybrid class. Sometimes she would skip the labs to lecture on more difficult chapters, and she is a great teacher. I wish I would have taken this class completely in person because she is so good.

Professor McDonald is great. I took her Hybrid- BSC1010 and wasn't sure what to expect. She gives you what you need to get an A. Online lectures, chapter outlines, worksheets to practice, Youtube links. Not an easy A, but If you watch the lecture, read the text and review the outlineA. Labs are fun and you usually get out early but don't miss Lab.

Mrs. McDonald is one of the sweetest teachers at EFSC. Her class is very heavy with the lectures but she is very knowledgeable about Biology. Also, has connections with researchers so if you need help definitely recommend. Labs are pretty simple just do the work! Only "hard" part is the practicals (picture test in class) but exams online so not bad

loved ms. mcdonald! she's very passionate about what she teaches; all of her lectures are supplemented by her personal experience which makes them a lot more exciting to listen to. the lab practicals are hard, but reading the textbook was a REALLY good decision for me personally, i studied very little and got an a on each one. definitely take her!

I had her for Biology 1 as a hybrid class and boy I do not regret taking her. I learned so much and she is the sweetest and most favorite professor Ive ever had. If you have a question she will answer it in detail and help you out. Take her! You wont regret it.

Mrs. McD is incredibly passionate about bio. She teaches with enthusiasm and makes class interesting. The practicals are challenging, but they are doable. If you work hard, you will pass with an A. Absolutely recommend.

Labs are easy and practical is open notes. She gives you a test every 3-4 chapters but is weighted heavily cuz the final is not cumulative. I found it hard to remember her lectures so I had to read and teach myself the chapters. However, if you follow the notes and put in the work you'll be able to pass easily.

I personally love professor McDonald and I did not have too much difficulty in this class, but it certainly was not easy. While the class is hard, she provides plenty of study material. Her lectures are up on canvas and she also posts notes and worksheets that you can use. You need to put work in.

Like any biology class, her gen bio 2 class was difficult, but made possible by her lectures and labs. Shes passionate and knowledgeable about what she teaches, and while she tends to get off topic at the beginning of class, I didn't mind because it got me inspired to learn more biology. You will need to study, but its difficult to fail otherwise.

I took her class for bio 1 and loved her so much that took her again for bio 2. Bio 2 is much easier and interesting than bio 1 because bio 1 is very content based whereas bio 2 we could actually focus on the bigger picture.

The subject is not easy, however, Professor McDonald has videos of each chapter so you can watch them online. Watch the videos, study and you will do very well in the tests. The tests and quizzes are online. A quiz for each chapter and a test every 3 or 4 chapters. All online but timed, so study before you start. Very good experience.

Took class online due to Corona but the PowerPoints did not match up too well with the worksheets. In the video lessons she just reads the pp word for word. Gives a good amount of time to complete work and only grades top 10 quiz grades.

I took Mrs. McDonald for both Bio 1 and 2. I took Bio 1 online, which was fairly simple. I took Bio 2 face to face, which was much more enjoyable for me. One day is for lab and the other is for lecture. She can get off topic during lecture, but its usually entertaining and you can learn something new anyway. Overall a solid choice for Bio!!

i took this class as a hybrid and it was so easy. as someone whos major is biology, she made it really easy to understand and actually made me super interested in it. shes super passionate and just teaches great. graded only by easy quizzes and labs that you basically just do in class. no homework besides the quizzes. no midterm or final either.

I took Professor McDonald last semester and absolutely loved her. I took her Bio 2 class this semster and I love the way she teaches. You can tell she enjoys teaching and very passionate about the class. Her lectures are long, but she includes videos to expand on topics. Her labs are very extensive so you fully learn the topic. Highly recommend!

This professor was truly amazing. It is clear that she wants the best for her students and shows this everyday in the classroom. Tests can be a little tricky, but she does reviews to help ensure her students know the material. She is willing to take extra time out of her very busy day to help her students. Highly recommend taking her classes.

I took this class as a Hybrid course, and she was absolutely amazing. Her labs were very entertaining and she has a lot of passion when teaching, which makes her class fun. Biology in general is not easy but she makes this class fun.

Professor McDonald is a great professor, she is passionate about biology. I took her hybrid class, where exams are 70%, labs are 30% and quizzes are 10%. There are working 5 exams, but the last exam is made up from quizzes, which makes a total of 6 exams total. There is no extra credit but she drops 6 of your lowest quiz grades. Great job

Overall a pretty good experience. She really made sure that people knew what else to do to gain experience in the life science field.

I'm actually waiting to take my Genetics class because she's getting certified to teach genetics. My course was Hybrid so we met every week to do the labs. She doesn't over complicate things. didn't need the textbook but if you need the extra resource, go for it. I'm pre-med major, so she gave me lists to pre-med internships that I could apply for.

Took this hybrid over the summer for 6 weeks, it was pretty easy. All labs are self explanatory and she is helpful when you need her. Quizzes and tests are all done online, none proctored. Would highly recommend, i would take bio 2 with her if i had the time but im lazy

I would highly recommend Professor McDonald. She was always willing to give additional information about things being discussed during lectures and labs. There were 5 tests and weekly quizzes along with lab reports. Tests were hard, but as long as you pay attention during lectures and are willing to put the effort in, you will be fine.

She was a very fair teacher! Her lectures are long but I enjoyed all of her classes.

Would only take if you are going into a science heavy profession, she says this on the first day. There are lots of labs and lectures but she explains the content well. STUDY for the quizzes. She accepts late work and there is no cumulative final exam.

Professor McDonald's BSCC1010 class is challenging but manageable with dedication. The labs are engaging, and she provides helpful resources like video lectures and worksheets. Unstuck ai and other study tools can really boost your prep.

100% would take again, I've never had a professor so invested in their subject. The workload is minimal, and the lectures are organized. If you get the chance take her class!

I thought I would do bad in this class but was the complete opposite instead! Labs were very easy to do with the whole week to finish up. Professor McDonald is a very sweet lady, you can ask any questions on how to do things and she will gladly explain the whole process again. Exams are also ok as long as you study enough. Mrs. McD is great! She's my favorite biology teacher. She's kind and reasonable. She brings lots of ENERGY to her lectures and teaching; she makes it interesting. She's good at finding volunteer opportunities if you want. Labs are due a week after class…which gives you plenty of time if needed. Tests are online. I recommend her.

The material in the course was very easy for me, she was nice. I took this as a hybrid course, and I never needed to watch the lectures... At times she will leave the class (for some reason), and you will want her present to ask a question.
