Pretty easy class. Although it was hard to understand him at times, the class made sense. If I wasn't graded on participation, I wouldn't show up considering he puts the lectures up online. Tests are worth a lot, but he gives study guides that are exactly like the test. Big paper at end and an essay for every test, too.
I took American Politics online with this professor, fairly easy. There was a chapter reading and documentary each week and discussion to participate in. And every other week was a quiz and 1 essay at the end. If you keep up on the work, you will do fine. Professor gives really good feedback when it comes to discussions and essays. Would take again
Took Pols 1100 with Prof. Gutaj. He is very knowledgeable and helps you succeed. He gives really good feedback on the assignments and inspires you. His lectures are amazing and informative. He is truly a 5* professor at SLCC.
I took Prof. Gutaj online class and learned a great deal. The class was structured neatly and he is very clear what he expects from his student. Just do the work and try your best and you will be fine. He really wants to help his student. I would take him again in a hard beat. Awesome prof.
He is an awesome professor. I had him for American Government & Politics and Comparative Politics. He is a true gem to SLCC. I learned so much from him.
He makes you work for your grade, but the process of learning in his class is fun. Gives very useful feedback with lots of ideas for improvement. He is very smart, well traveled, and knows his stuff. Great professor and makes college classroom enjoyable. I highly recommend taking his class.
This is a great professor. He has a unique way to teaching American politics and government. Everyone in the class seemed to enjoy his lectures and interacting in the classroom. I recommend him.
Professor Gutaj is awesome!!! He is passionate about the subject and has extensive knowledge of various aspects of American government and politics. He is very enthusiastic in the classroom. One test for each section, and a term essay on a pressing issue in American politics. If you study and participate you will do well. He is very helpful!!!
He is awesome!!! He helped me succeed in his course, and his teachings made me a much complete person overall. He is very knowledgable of various political systems and cultures, and that really helped me think outside of the box. I recommend him 100%.
Took his class online. The class is very structured and examines a lot of relevant material. He has excellent online discussion opportunities for student to learn. He comments in each individual response, and gives great insight. He replies to e-mails quickly and is very helpful when you have questions. He is a great professor.
I learned a lot in his class. Gutaj is knowledgeable & passionate about political science. To do well in his class you have to put effort -- attend class and engage with the material and others in class. He helped me succeed but I had to work hard for it. Don't take him if you don't have time to attend class or just want to have a lazy semester.
I enjoyed his class. The professor is clear in conveying ideas and material. Free copy of the textbook, awesome lectures, and very approachable person. He is the best professor I have had so far at SLCC.
Magnificent experience. It is amazing how much I learned in his class. Gutaj teaches American politics using grand ideas in pols and allows you to apply the same ideas into your own learning. I placed a lot of effort into this class but so worth it.
Easy class. Very nice person!
Prof Gutaj has clear expectations for each assignment, and the course was laid out intelligently. Each week included a chapter from the textbook, a video, and a discussion board post with interaction with other students required. Five tests and a term paper. Prof Gutaj gave specific individual feedback for every assignment. Solid class.
I just finished the online US gov. class with Perparim Gutaj. The class is very well organized. Free textbook! Every week you have a module to complete, post a discussion, and total of 5 quizzes. One essay at the end of the semester. I also met with him in person: He is very nice and helpful. I recommend Professor Gutaj.
He has the Heart of a Teacher!!!
As long as you do the discussions and read the chapter for your quizzes you can get an A. The second quiz messed me up because I ran out of time but their not so bad. He just wants more detail in the essay questions. I highly recommend him and his canvas was super organized and easy to navigate.
Has a textbook but there isn't any homework out of it. If you go to class every day and take good notes, you'll do well on the quizzes. There are no assignments, just a few quizzes every 3-4 weeks and an essay at the end.
I really enjoyed this class with this professor. He made lectures interesting, explained subjects very well, and had a great positive attitude. I would recommend this professor to everyone.
Learned a lot in his class. Clear grading rubrics. He was very helpful with all assignments. I recommend him.
This has been my favorite teacher ever. He teaches critical thinking in a way that no question is a stupid question. He is also very fast at grading. I once turned in a final essay at 10 PM on a weekend and it was graded within the next hour. He will never leave you hanging, and will do everything in his power to make sure you understand.
I really enjoyed his class. The class time was spent mostly lecturing using powerpoint, but he pauses frequently to get us involved. There is a free online textbook that is recommended but not required to pass the tests. He also seems genuinely interested in your life outside of his class
We have the most amazing class discussions where everyone is allowed to pitch in. He really makes you think beyond your thought bubble, challenging everything you believe.
Great class! Super informative but be ready to do 3 hours of reading a week, assignments are pretty easy but things stack up at the end of the semester so beware of time management. I learned a ton and he is very accessible, this was my first online class and he made it easy to figure out.
Grade consists of 2 papers(40%), 10 critical thinking questions(20%), attendance and participation(15%), group presentation(20%) e-port(5%). Possible 5% extra credit, although our class did not get it. Due dates are strict, lectures are dense but interesting, class frequently has political disscussions and debates. Book was never used, Canvas was.
Taking his class was a transformative experience. Easily, out of the four profs i had this semester he made the most sense. Balanced number or assignments, opportunities for debate and discussion, and great lectures. Honest amount of work and you will do well
I really enjoyed his class. I didn't love the group assignment because I got a bad group but he was great and I did well in the class.
Super easy online class. The discussion posts are annoying but easy, just come up with an opinion on the matter and post about it. The tests are incredibly easy, open the online book in the other tabs and ctrl-f your way through. He is awesome and posts the book for free through canvas. The final is just an essay on politics. Easy A
He is an excellent professor, very intelligent and gave good lectures. His class was engaging and if you participate in the lecture there isn't a huge workload.
Great professor for the online course. Weekly discussion board posts, and the chapter quizzes every few weeks. Everything is flat graded, so tests count the same as assignments. Don't be an idiot and provide references to your discussion board posts and you'll be fine.
Easy the best professor I had at the college!! Loved the way he teaches comparative politics. Dr. Gutaj has tons of knowledge and style. There is so much to learn in his class. Highly recommended.
He is really great by all means. You will learn a ton, always ready to help, and accesible outside class. I wish more professors are like him!
Overall a great professor, He's exceptionally knowledgeable on the subject and wants his classes to be engaged. The workload is very manageable, stay up on the reading and communicate with him if you're having trouble. Would definitely take again.
I enjoyed this class immensely. The instructor is not very "involved" for an online class. He does not interfere with graded discussions. Feedback is pretty rare. He is a lenient grader. As long as you read and respond to course material, you should be fine. Chapters are long and take about 2 hours to read. Textbook is free. Essay required.
The class is super engaging and fun. He is very knowledgeable and passionate about politics. He offers the textbook for free, total of 5 quizzes, research paper at the end of the semester. Skip class wont pass. Would love to take another one of his classes. Great professor!!
Perparim is a solid choice for political science. Each class consists of a powerpoint lecture, which usually turns into a classroom discussion on some other pressing topic in the news. The only assignments are five quizzes and a final paper. He provides you with a free online textbook which is nice. Be sure to participate so he knows your name.
Prof Gutaj was an amazing professor! He is super intelligent and explains stuff in an easy to understand way, draws diagrams, etc. In class discussions were engaging, he gives every comment genuine thought/attention. Textbook is free and you can tell he genuinely cares about students and the community as a whole. Only 5 quizzes and one final paper.
Professor Gutaj is one of the best people around and the lectures were more of a group discussion about current events and how it relates to the past.
Absolutely one of the best professors I had at SLCC. I am at UVU now but I miss the way he teaches polisci. Very clear expectations, syllabus, grading criteria, and interesting lectures. Prof. Gutaj brings so much knowledge and insight to the class. He truly brings the subject to life.
Very chill professor. Lecture heavy, but it's very interesting when everyone participates. Not too boring. Don't skip class, participation matters. **Pay attention to the lectures as they could have answers to your assignments. :)**
I really enjoyed his class! Not hard at all and I learned a lot. Don't skip class. He is really great and will help you a lot if you are honest and put efforts into the semester. I highly recommend him.
ONLINE: Each week you READ a chapter, Write a 3 paragraph summary to prove you understand the concept. DUE THURSDAYS. Watch a couple videos between 2 minutes and 1 hours. Then ANSWER 2 Questions in a discussion setting and reply to 2 other students. DUE SUNDAYS. 5 QUIZZES, 1 TERM PAPER, E-PORTFOLIO. Very organized, Gives Feedback. FREE ONLINE BOOK
Take his his US Government/Politics course online. It is a breeze! Professor Gutaj is very organized and gets things graded rather quickly.
Gives great feedback on how to improve and grades promptly. Only criticism I have is he unlocks the modules one week before they are due, so you can't get ahead. But it's not a ton of work, you basically read a chapter, write a short summary of it, and participate in the discussion. Term paper and a few tests.
Great class. You have to read a chapter, write a summary then awatch a couple of videos and answer questions and respond to a couple of classmates. There were 5 quizzes and an essay. It was easy, fun. He gives great feedback and answers any questions pretty quickly. Only thing is modules are locked, cannot work ahead but other than that, Great!
Really enjoyed my time with him and in class. I was hesitant about taking a government class (cause you know politics) but he always kept us on track and did try to challenge your beliefs while still being respectful. Only negative thing is the awkward silence if no one answers a question in class. But besides that highly recommend for anyone.
I was never interested in politics until I took this course. Professor Gutaj is very educated and great at teaching! Take this class from him and you won't regret it!
This was an online class, and I really enjoyed it. Expectations for each module were very clear and Professor Gutaj always gave great feedback on your scoring. I would absolutely take another class from him in the future!
He was really good! Best online class I have ever taken. The text is free and online and very easy to read. The quizzes and online assignments are not hard. Not a ton of work either. I definitely recommend him.
This class was divided in 5 parts. With in each section you take an open textbook quiz at home, you have access to class textbook and power points. You do have to take notes during lecture because there can be questions on topics discussed. I knew nothing about politics, and still got an A. Good intro class! Just go to class and you'll pass.
As long as you do the discussion and read the chapters you will pass with an A. No textbook required, and is pretty flexible on due dates.
DO NOT take his class in person. ONLY take it online. Attendance mandatory, and the lectures are so unstructured and hard to follow. It felt like a waste of time. Once Covid hit and everything went online, this class was so much better. I enjoyed the essays, and textbook not REQUIRED but helped me a ton with the comparative papers.
Covid-19 shook the semester off a bit but it all worked out well. I missed his lectures because they were so informative. Free textbook and the amount of work was just right.
He is awesome!!! Dr. Gutaj knows a lot about comparative politics and can relate the information and entice you. He is very helpful just approach him. Comparative papers were my favorite assignment!!
I had some personal issues during the semester, he worked with me and helped me finish. Lectures are informative and important for quizzes. There are 5 quizzes and if you do the work you will do well. Overall, easy class and you learn a lot. He is a great and professional.
He doesn't know when to admit he's wrong. My class argued with him for a day because he wouldn't admit privatized prisons were a reality. Only take a class from him if it's a necessity. If you take his class be prepared to pretend everything he says is true.
great professor! interesting lectures and free textbook. I definitely recommend him for politics class.
This was one of my favorite classes I took at SLCC. Professor has extensive knowledge of politics around the world. Assignments were fun and very manageable. If you do the work you will get an A easy. It is recommended.
Due to covid-19 I had to adjust my school with work demands. Dr. Gutaj was understanding and great in helping with the transition --- academic side of it. The class has the right amount of assignments. He cares and gave feedback on my work that helped me earn the grade I wanted. Great professor!!
I very much enjoyed the 3 Poli Sci classes I took with Dr. Gutaj. He is a good lecturer and provided a good space to discuss potentially hot topics around current events.
Prof. Gutaj was awesome! He always gives feedback on assignments and his grading scale is clear. Class was not difficult, but you do have to spend time reading the textbook and writing "Weekly Reading Summaries" for each chapter. Discussion can be contriversal, but Gutaj was never pushy towards one side, just wanted us to share our thoughts.
Prof Gutaj is awesome. I took him for fall 2020 during Covid and he was very flexible and we ended up going fully online. He is very clear on what to do each week and what he expects. You can tell he knows what he is talking about and I went to class even when it wasn't mandatory just because it was interesting to here his lectures.
Gutaj is a good professor, he is an easy grader and basically gives you 100% on assignments if you do the assignment. US Gov and Politics is a pretty straightforward class so I found it very easy. The class is a little tedious because you do the same assignments every week but it's easy to get an A.
The class was well structured and he incorporated interesting videos/documentaries to supplement the textbook.... which I really liked. After all, I learned so many new things I didn't know prior about American government and politics. He gave great feedback and was very clear what he expected from us.
I had Professor Gutaj for Fall semester 2020. I struggled with this class after getting COVID and falling behind, but he was so flexible with me. He is a great teacher; he wants to make sure that we understand what he is teaching us. Weekly reading/writing HW but it's honestly not that bad if you stay on top of it. Two papers with prompts given.
Best online class I've taken at SLCC. No broken links or screwed up due dates. He leaves a comment on all assignments. I really liked the current event topics and materials he chose to accompany the textbook chapters. I didn't want to take a poli-sci class during the 2020 election but it ended up being a good experience. Highly recommend.
Dr. Perparim Gutaj was fantastic. He is very knowledgeable and knows his material. As long as you keep up with your homework and participate you will do fine. Reading articles and reporting weekly is part of the assignments. I truly enjoy this course and would take it again.
I took this course online. The work expectations were straightforward and he's an easy grader. He seems like he would be a good in person professor too.
The best teacher to have when you don't enjoy any American Institutions class! You can pass the tests but just looking at the provided online text book. And you could honestly turn in music lyrics for your assignments. I feel as if he understands that if we aren't interested in his class its okay as long as you put words on paper.
This was my second class with Prof. Gutaj. Just as amazing as the first one. He is my favorite professor at SLCC. Great lectures, interesting assignments, and learn a ton. Highly recommended.
I really enjoyed Professor Gutaj's class. He does a lot of in-class discussions that were really interesting and engaging. He is obviously very educated on politics and gives really interesting lectures. The homework is very doable and doesn't take too long. Overall, great professor, definitely recommend!
I have had him twice and I must say he is very easy going. I had missed a deadline for a paper once and he just let me send it to him in an email. As long as you do well on the tests you will pass.
Professor Gutaj was amazing! This course is content heavy but everything is manageable! I got a lower grade on one of my essays and I asked if there was anything I could do, and he gave me a chance to re-do it and it really helped my grade! He grades your assignments very fast so you're never in the dark about where your grade is standing.
By far the best professor I've had so far at SLCC, as long as you try you get full credit on your assignments! I loved taking this class because of him!
Professor Gutaj was a great Intro to international relations educator. While the course was filled with lots of reading, it was somewhat interesting. However the text book chapters were ridiculously long. Make sure to read everything before submitting your assignment, he will dock points if you don't have everything in the criteria.
If you are thinking of taking this professor you definitely should! Quick weekly summary of the chapter assigned and then a discussion post. Only 5 quizzes and 2 essays overall. He's not very strict on topics you pick. It was a lot of reading but very interesting and very useful information to know. Great feedback and not a harsh grader at all!
Gutaj is very knowledgeable and provides interesting insight into the processes of American government. The textbook is pretty heavy, but I honestly didn't need to read anything to complete the assignments. Easy weekly workload and class time is discussion and lecture. He often teaches past class time, so just keep that in mind for scheduling.
Chill guy. Attendance wasn't mandatory, in fact I got 100% while only attending a handful of classes. We had an assignment and discussion every week. There were 3 easy quizzes through the semester. You can expect a lot of reading in the class though. He has reasonable deadlines and if you need anything (even extensions) you need to contact him.
Good professor and class overall. Grade is made by multiple open note tests and lots of homework so be prepared to read the textbook. It wasn't super important to attend though as he often got off-track and what he talks about in class is available in the textbook. No final.
plsssss take his class if you want general education credit with an easy grader. id recommend doing the half semester version. a lot more homework assigned every week, but as long as u kind of have a good idea of what youre talking about, he will give u 100. mwah professor gutaj
Perparim is a really easy grader. There is weekly reading, chapter summary writing and discussion. If you do the reading you will pass easily. Two essays and chapter quizzes. If you want an easy class and lenient professor take his class.
Professor Gutaj was the best... You just do one discussion post, followed by a summarization of the reading of the week. There are no exams, just quizzes that you take once every few weeks. He grades and responds quickly and is an easy grader. Take his class it was the best.
Gutaj has a well structured canvas, the readings are long, and you will have weekly summaries and discussions. Final is replace with an essay. Be prepared to write.
He is one of the best professors to take a class with throughout this semester I like the way he teaches the class
Oh my god, this guy is AMAZINGGGGG. We have 200 word chapter summaries and discussions every week along with some videos, two essays, and some timed quizzes. He gives back really good feedback, and honestly all you have to do is follow the directions and you will pass. He is so kind and very knowledgable. LONG LIVE PERPARIM!!!
HES SO NICE OMGGGG. his kindness never goes unnoticed and I wish he taught every subject!
Not very active in way of sending announcements but provided feedback on every assignment! Assignments were very straight forward and flexible.
Professor Gutaj is an alright teacher, but he often went on long tangents and was sometimes pushy with his views. You have to read a chapter every week and watch a handful of videos, then write a summery. If you do this you will be fine. The two papers we had to write were easy and on a topic of your choice. Overall good guy and very knowledgable.
He knows what he is talking about, just sometimes he gets sidetracked into a long rant about politics, and it comes off a little pushy, which honestly made it difficult for me to not feel uncomfortable at times. Does not really provide feedback, but if you do all assignments, you should be fine.
Professor Gutaj was exceptional! Amazing and engaging lectures. He makes complex topics in comparative politics easy to understand and exciting to learn. I especially liked learning about the MSSD and MDSD techniques. He is approachable, supportive, and genuinely caring. Assignments are a bit challenging but fair and make you learn. He is a 5-star
Pretty easy class if you stay on top of weekly assignments. He was very helpful while I was completing the two comparative papers. No traditional final or midterm. Loved it!!! Many amazing lectures that can spark your interest on the topic. 100% recommend.
Took his American gov class and had a great experience. Not a hard class if you do the work and stay on top. He is easy accessible and wants students to succeed. Follow the expectations in the class and you will do fine.
I stayed true to my political opinion in this class because I no longer wanted to stay quiet and pretend to agree with something I didn't. I was worried that I'd receive a bad grade for expressing my true opinion, however he still graded me fairly. I really love this professor because he allows students to stay true to themselves.
Professor Gutaj is very passionate in his teachings on government. He is not really someone to reason with when you do submit assignments late and he docks points off for every day it is late. That said, as long as you keep up with the weekly readings and assignments and show up to class every day, you should pass as long as you apply yourself.
