who wants to make a Biddiscombe Cult of Personality?
Awesome Professor, has the ability to make anything interesting!
Best teacher EVER. Will take futher classes with him. Personality cult for sure!
Sexy man indeed - greatest 1st year prof.

I like it when he does squats during his lecture. You da man Perry!
Boring for non-history buffs. He's kinda a dork.
He's always in a hurry, gotta love it!
Non-Hist student, but his class was the best I have taken in 4+ years at UVic.
smart and interesting

I wish he shared his knowledge about nationalism more in his seminar, but great!
Harder than any other teachers for that class, but great knowledge and enthusiam
very knowledgeable&helpful, enthusiastic and approachable, the best prof so far!

Tons of notes, but well worth it... don't need to buy the text book
pounds the board a lot & its really funny, gets really into it
Wow, really knows his stuff!
Knowledgable and keeps lectures interesting. The only class I never skipped.
excellent prof., funny guy...likes to pace and hit chalkboard
Pounds Chalk Board, BIG hand movements--BEST history prof!!
A history genius and a casual dressing guru. Blackboard slaps galore!!!

One of the smartest people I have ever heard talk, love the squats and ducktail!
Gives really clear lectures. Fair marker. Has to ease off tapping the blackboard
Conan O'brien's long lost twin. VERY clear, but lectures too fast at times.
Most entertaining class! Best shoes in the school!
Great prof, enthusiastic and all knowing
Biddiscombe is the man - he knows everything
wicked teacher... best hist prof you can have
That's all for today... Love him
Biddiscombe helped me with a 240 essay. I was in his class last year! He is wicked. Great lectures.
One of the best history profs. Quick and fair marker
wicked prof
My favourite teacher. I had him my first year, and i loved him. He is the reason im going to teach history.
Perry is a sweet prof. Very fair and teaches well. He really gets into what he is teaching. I would take a class just because he is teaching it.
This man knows everything. He also must be from one of those nationalities that use thier hands alot in conversation because thats what he does. And he smacks the table at the end of each lecture!
Super nice prof, always helpful, friendly, can lecture a bit fast (admittedly though) but otherwise a great instructor
best history teacher
Biddiscombe is an excellent prof. Clear lectures, fair test and essay marks.
Nicest prof out there...gotta say, have a little crush. He talks incredibly fast... but it's a lecture definitely worth trying to listen to.
really interesting, dynamic lectures - very helpful too
Just a fabulous guy. The only time I wasn't able to get an answer was regarding what percentage the church of the 16th century felt was an acceptable amount to charge for interest. Incredible, and NOTORIOUSLY FAIR.
I love Biddy!
The best history prof. I have ever had and the reason I got my masters from UVic. He loves and knows his material and cares that his students have the same passion. A great man worthy of recognition.
Best course so far. Dr. Biddiscombe is the best prof, as well. Well organized lectures, animated discussions and tutorials that are ACTUALLY fun! He practically dances when he speaks he so enthusiastic! Go Perry!
Know his stuff!
Excellent lecturer. Difficult but fair. One gets the feeling that you get as much as you put into this course (marks and otherwise). Interesting material and very knowledgeable. I want to read his book.
"P.Biddi" as I like to call him is one of the best history profs at UVic. His lectures are super stimulating, worth waking up for an 8:30am class! His tests are fair, but the weight for each question is questionable. 1% for a multiple choice que
Best prof on campus
If Biddy was teaching toothflossing 100 I would probably take it. He is entertaining, extremely helpful, knowledgeable and fair. He expects you to work hard, but as long as you do so, you will be rewarded. You'll be a better student for taking his class!
Interesting, dynamic, knows his stuff, but you have to write fast...
Awesome professor!! Biddiscombe was the best! Never before has been getting an A so hard, but so rewarding! Keep it up Biddy!
Great prof. Definitely worth waking up for an 8:30 class for. Entertaining and gets you interested in the subject and makes it interesting. Also, he is helpful if you go see him.
great prof, really enthusiastic, gets you right into the stuff, just have to make sure you can write fast enough to keep up to him!
Great prof and really intelligent guy.... I was in one of his classes circa '95.
Biddiscombe is a different gravy. His lectures are long and you do have to write quick, but for an 8:30, it was worth taking for sure. His exams are fair as they test all the ways to ans. quests, m/c, short answ., and essay. Totally helpful as well. right up there for sure!
Dr. Biddiscombe is one of the most enthusiastic profs I've ever had! He knows his material really well and is very animated when teaching. Definitly recommended if you can write fast!
Awesome teacher for classes and fair assignments but the exams were brutal!!!
Prof Biddiscombe is the best! He lectures clearly and the assignments are very reasonable. One thing: you must take notes quickly.
Perry was a good prof. I took his class back in 96 and remember him as an intelligent and insighful person.
Textbook helps clarify lectures. fast. interesting. will help if you go and see him. possible to get a good mark if you work hard.
I found Biddiscombe to speak MUCH too quickly. On average I would do 7-8 pages of notes per 1 hour lecture. Assignments were juvinile, and then he marked them hard. The information being taught was interesting, but he blew through topics so quickly it was hard to get a firm grasp of the material. I would not recommend his class, it's not worth it.
I liked this class. Prof B gave awesome lectures, and the notes will come in handy in future courses, as well as the survey of things I found out much more about. Assignments were worthwhile and fun--c'mon, how's a film study gonna be boring or trivial? His marking is tough, but suck it up. We're in university--this isn't bobbing for apples.
I found Dr. Biddiscombe to talk way to fast and there was no way to write your notes fast enough to have everything you needed. He is very enthuastic, but his lectures were long and boring and he blows through the topics way too quickly. His assignments are brutal, if you suck at map projects, good luck!
good guy but hard to keep up with notes if writing, typing was a little easier. Topics seemed to be scattered a little bit, making it harder to follow but over all good class. didnt even buy text book, just went to class.
I am a Canadian History major so I felt a little out of my league in this course. He is a great lecturer, totally interesting, but he goes a mile a minute so if you can't keep up then you may get screwed. Hard, hard, hard tests and marker. Europe between two World Wars isn't my specialty but he made it interesting. Still got my ass kicked.
I now teach History in a high school and I hope one day I can be as effective as he is. An amazing lecturer who can keep your attention. I would love to come back and take more of his classes, but I took them all while I was at UVic
Most knowledgable prof I've had - I'm pretty sure he knows all the dates off by heart. Talks a mile a minute though, so make sure you can either write fast or bring a computer. A solid prof though - take advantage of his review classes before the midterm and final exams.
Great prof, he was very interesting and into his lectures. The whole class is based around the lectures so if you show up you do well. He's a hard but fair marker. I'd definitely take his classes again.
Good teacher, but lectures a little fast for my taste. Would recommend to other students.
Best history prof ever!
Great prof, very fair and extremely knowledgable. Take lots of notes, he asks some randomquestions on exams. He hits the table and chalkboard a lot. I once saw him tap a chalkboard three times and someone sitting on the other side of the wall tapped back. Highly recommend his classes.
Favourite class, favourite prof! Would definitely recommend, but if you're not a fast writer or don't have a laptop good luck... He talks fast but makes his lectures super interesting.
Favorite prof at UVic. Immensely knowledgeable and very entertaining to listen to. The tests are very hard, and his lectures are extremely fast, but he is a prof I would recommend to everyone!
Very good prof, really knowledgeable and engaging. I recommend this professor .
This guy is brilliant! I really enjoyed all the knowledge he conveyed, whether it was pink floyd references for english or 21st century history facts, this guy knows it. One drawback is the speed at which he lectures. Its hard to keep up, so I recommend asking him if you can record the lectures so that you may go back and fill in what you missed.
Best prof at UVIC. I would totally take his class again.
totally charismatic and knowledgeable but his tests are death
Biddiscombe is a very engaging prof for an 8:30 class. His lectures are incredibly enthusiastic, and he'll smack the table emphatically a few times a class. There are a LOT of terms to study from, and a lot of material in general, which is slightly intimidating. But it doesn't take away from the fact that he's a great prof!
Definitely recommend taking his class. He's very enthusiastic about his subject and has a great lecture style. His tests aren't as terrible as some say, you just need to know what he's lectured on.
Biddiscombe is honestly the best prof I have had in all my years at UVic. His lectures make it seem like you haven't already learned about the subject 10 times already - they are fascinating! Show up and take decent enough notes and you'll be set. He also gives so much really helpful feedback on papers. Go pick his brain during office hours!
Perry Biddiscombe is a fantastic prof! He makes history extremely interesting, engaging and knowledgable. His lectures are extremely fast paced and his tests are rather tough. Reading the textbook often compliments his lectures and helps to clear up confusion. Overall, it's definitely worth taking a class with him! Amazing prof!
Dr. Biddiscombe is one of the best profs I've had at Uvic, he is clearly very passionate about teaching and he seemed to have endless knowledge about each topic we covered. His lecture style is pretty rough for first years: no powerpoint and talking at a very brisk pace. However, I cannot recommend him highly enough! TAKE HIS CLASS!
Favourite prof at UVIC! Super smart has almost everything from the 20th century memorized! Lectures all class and speaks fast so its best to use a computer for notes. His lectures are really interesting and he explains things well. Can tell he is passionate about what he teaches. Tests can seem hard but if you study enough they are fair!
Biddiscombe, overall, is a fairly good instructor. As mentioned in most of the other ratings, he talks extremely fast, and makes multiple points (in a "list" form), which can get quite confusing, especially without a laptop or tablet. However, he is extremely knowledgeable, and you learn a lot of history in 105, from all over the world.
Easily the best lecturer I have every had. He Doesn't use slides, but this doesn't impede my attention or interest. Also very helpful.
Probably one of my favorite profs at UVic. Incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about the subject, and gives very engaging and energetic lectures. Another thing I really liked was how he creative the assignments he came up with were (I.e maps, film studies, historical archives) His History 112 is an absolute must for any first year students.
Dr. Biddiscombe lectures A LOT. It is suggested that one takes notes on a computer (edit them after) in order to get down as much information as possible. The first month is boring background information to the 20th century but it picks up after that. Make use of his review sessions before the exam and do assignments early!
Very enthusiastic prof, makes lectures interesting while remaining organized. Very few but heavily weighted assignments but if not impossibly hard
I would not hesitate taking another course with this highly intelligent, interesting and genuinely kind prof. Each of his fast-paced and passionate lectures make me excited to be majoring in history. He gave out 2 assignments, and it's best to work on them right away because they're HARD. I didn't use the textbook; Perry covered it in lectures. :)
Be prepared to write a lot! I suggest having a laptop, Biddiscombe lectures without slides but it's not too hard to follow. Didn't open the textbook once; he tests on his lectures. easy exam. tricky assignments... start early and you'll do fine! good prof :)
Great professor! He's interesting to listen to but talks SUPER fast. The only way you can take notes in his class is on the computer.
Great guy, fun to listen to. Hard to take notes because his lectures tend to jump around as he gets more excited about the topic. Gives out lists of terms for every lecture. He also gave us a list of 200 key terms the last week of class to study for the final with, which was amazingly helpful.
Dr. Biddiscombe is the best prof I've had so far. His lectures are engaging, detailed, and passionate (yes, and fast). Assignments are interesting and of a reasonable level of difficulty. He provides a list of terms and an outline of what to review for exams, which are fair but certainly require extensive knowledge of the course material.
Lots of notes with no slides so it's hard to keep up sometimes but he knows a lot about history and seems passionate so it's easy to pay attention.
Perry is very inspirational and truly has a passion for history. The lectures can get boring but it is a good part of the day to go to his class and just listen. He tells the historic events like a story which is satisfying. The only complaint I have is the course lay out the exam plus the term paper is worth around %80 and he gives the marks late
Perry is very passionate about history! His lectures are very fast paced and he does not use slides so it easier if you use a laptop. you are only marked on a few things so make sure you keep up.
Dr. Biddiscombe is one of my favourite history teachers in the department. I learned a lot about history from him and he lectures in a way that makes information easy to understand. However, he does lecture really quickly and sometimes it's easy to get lost or miss key points.
Make sure you are close enough to the front during lectures to hear all the information and names, as there are no slide shows, and take thorough notes. Test material is very fair. The textbook is not really necessary. Keep up with the lectures or it will be easy to fall behind.
Biddiscombe is clearly passionate about history and its clear in the way his lectures flow. Very engaging narrative like quality in the way he tells history. Graded only on two essays, a midterm and a final. Exams not easy but not too difficult.
Outstanding lecturer who greatly piqued my interest in early 20th century history. Does tend to talk fast so writing on a laptop is paramount. Grading is evenly split between two papers and two exams.
Personally very confused as to how he has a 4.8/5. His lectures are interesting and I learned a lot, but the midterm and final exam were way more difficult than others are leading. He is a tough grader IMO but I do appreciate that he records his lectures though. Also, the textbook is quite expensive and not necessary tbh.
Dr. Biddiscombe is a good prof. His lectures are very interesting and engaging. He is defiantly very passionate and knowledgeable about history. He is also very humble, unlike most UVIC profs. I found his assignments reasonable, but he tests were a bit specific for a 1st-year history class.
I'm surprised he has such a high rating tbh. Lectures are engaging and interesting but he speaks fast and mentions so many details so try to keep up with notes. Students are graded on few assignments and exams, so study hard cause they're worth a lot. Exam questions are also very specific. DO NOT BUY THE TEXTBOOK! It's expensive and unnecessary.
There are only 4 assignments over the term, and are spaced out well but weighed heavily. Perry is a very fair grader, and I doubt there is another prof as dedicated to their job than Perry. His class is a joy, and while there are no slides to follow, his excitement and storytelling is VERY engaging. What a great prof!
Perry's the best. Enthralling lectures that you won't want to miss (but are recorded and uploaded to BS if you do). No slides or textbook, he just goes off and gesticulates for an hour and you try to keep up. Can't wait for my next course with him.
Lectures were great and engaging, don't bother buying a textbook.
The undisputed goat
Perry Biddiscombe is an exceptional professor and among my favourites. His lectures are highly engaging and intellectually stimulating. While challenging at first, they become easier with time. He grades fairly, assigns minimal work and provides excellent lecture videos that eliminate the lack of slideshows. No textbooks needed.
dr. biddiscombe is truly the best: his lectures are detailed and engaging, he grades fairly and doesn't assign much homework, his exams aren't too hard, and he's just such a nice person. only thing is don't buy the textbook - the midterm/final are purely based on the lectures
Super engaging Guy but be ready with a laptop because if you're handwriting notes for this class you're not gonna be able to keep up.
This man is the undisputed goat. He made me fall in love with history. His lectures are incredible and super addicting. I didn't skip a single one. Perry Biddiscombe is one of the best people alive right now and he should not be overlooked. Give this guy a grammy fr.
Dr. Biddiscombe is one of the nicest and smartest people I've known. He is an amazing professor. His way of lecturing is so engaging and he is just a lovely person. He is a pretty chill grader, however studying for and taking the exams took like five years of my life, I don't think he notices how difficult they are. Still the GOAT tho.
P. Biddy was a great lecturer and a nice guy! Content is interesting. However, he speaks really fast, so it can be hard to keep up, but lectures are recorded. His exams shortened my lifespan- there's multiple choice, short answers, and essays (one for midterm in 1 hour and 2 for the final in 2 hours), but he is clear about what you should review.
He's one of the better history teachers I've had at UVic. The course is easy to understand, if you miss a class, all the lectures are uploaded so it's not hard to catch up
Just the GOAT, that's it. Took him last semester, loved the lectures and they were pretty fun.
BIDDY IS THE BEST! Lecture heavy. Copy paste his lecture terms in a doc then follow along by typing his lecture under each term, that helps organize your notes. Borrow books from library for your essay and he will be thrilled! Helps explain what is gonna be on middy/final and cares about his students! Tooj 2 classes with him!
Had him last semester and just loved his teaching and vibe. I'm not sure, but it was indescribable; however, I genuinely enjoyed the class very much. Also, the textbook personally is not needed and is never mentioned in class.
Professor Biddiscombe is a friendly professor and is genuinely passionate for the subject he teaches. If you take this class, I would suggest you try to sit as close to the front as you can as he speaks fast and relatively quietly. The course is all about the lectures which he doesn't provide slides for, so be prepared to take lots of notes.
Dr. Biddiscombe's lectures are some of the best in the history department. The topics of this course are all super interesting and his lectures make them better. No slideshows so you have to pay attention, however lectures are recorded. He hands back assignments relatively quick. The readings aren't super necessary so don't but the textbook.
Kinda old fashioned, just lectures without slides. He tells history like you would tell gossip, his lectures are fun. Don't pay for the textbook lecture covers everything. Tests are not easy but fair, he gives you key terms for every lecture, use/define them with your lecture notes they are helpful!!
Super chill guy, knows history like his is recapping some juicy drama, if you are really interested in learning about the history of a little bit of everything this class is great! Extremely fast talker and doesn't have slides so this class teaches you how to write notes. Don't buy the textbook, I didn't know we even had it until last class.
The all time goat. Great lecturer who is one of the few profs who can keep my adhd wired brain tuned in for 80 minutes straight. Fast talker but I didn't have much trouble keeping up and he posts videos of all lectures if you need a recap/miss class. Midterm and final weren't particularly hard. Don't buy the textbook however as it isn't used
Really laid-back prof who makes history feel entertaining instead of dry. The course covers a wide range of topics, so it's great if you like learning a bit of everything. He talks very quickly and doesn't rely on slides, which forces you to actually practice good note-taking. Also, skip the textbook it's basically unnecessary
