If you dont want to go to class, dont. Just read the book and you will do fine.
very nice guy, easy course if you read the book. I missed about half of the classes and made an A.
Was a waste of time going to class. Almost all of the test questions are straight from the book not the lecture notes.
I think he is awesome! Yes, the test is straight out of the book. You can get away with not attending class, but if you go you can learn some really interesting facts and participate in some good discussions. Even though its a big class he still encourages participation. I like him!
Very funny !!..Lots of Stories..Buy the book and if you dont want to go to class, dont !!..you'll still make an A if you read the book only !!..
don't need to go to class, easy grading, class is fun though
He's hot...except for the smoking thing. That's a turn off. You should quit once and for all, Dr. Fuchs. Try acupressure or light therapy maybe. There are lots of things available to help.
Read the book. Study the book. Exams are strictly book based. Exam questions are only tricky if you don't know the answers. The way to the true answer is through reading and studying the text. That's all folks!
He is really good. Very funny. His lectures are interesting. Test format MCQ. You can make a good grade even if u dont go to class.. just by reading the text.
He is a Good teacher and his lectures are funny. But all the test are based on the book. Read and know the ENTIRE chapters. Eveything, not just the definitions. If you read the book and know the material from it you will do well.
Some of the comments he makes in class are a little inappropriate but overall lecture is fun, there just isn't really a point to go. 95% of the test comes directly from the book. There might be a question or two that lecture will help you understand, but if you just attend lecture you will fail. Study the book and don't waste time on class.
All you need to do is read the book. Attending class is NOT necessary at all...although, he is interesting to listen to and you learn interesting things not in the book. Easy class! plus he gives an 85 or above avg. translates to an A in his class
Easy A. Just read the book. It helps if you go to class, but you can still get an A if you don't.
Super easy class. The test is from the book. You don't have to go to class, but lectures are never boring. He is really nice, and always makes time to help you with anything you need. Take a class with him. It's an easy GPA b.oost
Fun professor, very easy-going. Tests are almost completely from the book, but 10-15 questions are from PowerPoint notes discussed in class (they are NOT posted online). Luckily, class is always interesting and he likes to use fun examples to teach - he had us watch the SNL Hans and Franz skit when we learned about steroids.
This class was horrible. Even though he considered an 85 an A, his tests were very specific. He would cover materical for a test in a week and a half and expect you to know every sentence in the book...he tried to give out answers to be cool, but he gave the wrong answers and did nothing about it... Don't take him unless you are book nerd!
Fun class...cool teacher which is shame because his test are so hard! randomly takes a sentence from the book that has no significance @ all! if you want to memorize the book then you will get a decent grade. Whatever he stresses NOT to know is what is on the test. And his study guides of 200 T/F questions are a waste! just MEMORIZE!
Beware, not as easy as others say he is.
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU DON'T HAVE TO! BUT IF YOU DO, READ YOUR BOOK, GO OVER EVERY SENTENCE WITH A FINE TOOTH COMB! TEST ARE SO HARD, NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU STUDY. I BARELY MADE A "C". BUT THE GOOD THING IS 65 OR HIGHER IS A "C",SO IT'S SOMEWHAT POSSIBLE TO PASS! BUT, AVOID TAKING HIM AT ALL COST!
DR. Fuchs gives interesting lectures but the tests are straight from reading the book. READ THE BOOK and you will do fine on the M/C tests. His grading methods are very fair, 60=c 70=b 80=a.
Great Professor. Go to class because there will be at most 2 questions from his Lecture, most likely from a published article he will show you and he is pretty obvious on the answer so easy pts. Test do come straight from book, pretty easy test EXCEPT test 3, study, study study! Overall great class, great professor.
I am disappointed in the way this course has been presented and handled. Students who advise you to "memorize the book!" are right. I have professors who genuinely want their students to succeed, and those who seem pretty bored with the whole process...
Assuming Drugs and Behavior would be an interesting class, I was very wrong. He basically told the class you don't have to show up...his tests are straight from the book...NOT WHAT I THOUGHT. Has potential to be interesting but I was very disappointed especially with the amount of money spent on the class.
6 exams, no assignments or extra credit. EVERYONE is right about having to memorize the book. He will use random statistics from the textbook as Q's on the tests. Utterly ridiculous! I have never made lower that a B in my life (until his class). Cannot stress this enough: rate him poorly on the professor feedback questionnaire given in class!!!
I took a minimester. He appeared genuinely interested in seeing every one by successful in the class. We received an extra credit assignment. DEFINITELY read your text!
I couldn't believe these bad reviews. I loved his lectures, teaching style and his humor. he doesn't screw around, and when he's in a shi**y mood, don't make a bunch of disruption, but he's really a great prof and will help you if he knows you haven't been blowing everything off. I wish he taught other classes so i could take him again. Great prof.
I HAVE 2 laugh at students who were upset that there were no assignments!!I'm married w/children-VERY busy! I appreciated NOT having to do stupid papers & NOT having attendance count against me,though I only missed one class. He is an excellent teacher, straight forward, funny, lectures are never boring, read book, skip study questions, HE IS FAIR!
This is a great class to take in the summer since the tests are based heavily on the text. I can see where it would be hard to remember everything when spaced out by a normal semester timeline. However, it is a perfect class for the condensed summer schedule. READ THE BOOK and you will do fine! I only attended the lecture 50% and got an A.
Enjoys ranting. I pulled a B and all I did was take notes, never read back over them. Attended all but 2 classes. Does not post his slides. When taking notes, document the info from the slides. It will be on the test.
He made the topics interesting and made coming to class worth it with the knowledge he had on the topics. Make sure to write down information from his slides as he won't post them. I liked that he offered so many exams (book and notes) as it made the pressure of scoring well on one of them go away as you had the chance to make up on the next one.
Fuchs is an expert in Neurology! His class is amazing! and he is soo fun! Take him!
This class is pretty difficult because there really isn't a good review for his tests like other traditional classes. I still did well but I studied more for this class then my classes for my major. Not much of an elective. I recommend GO to class there are articles that will be on e test you can only get from class. Read the book and take notes.
This is a good option for an advanced elective. Class is interesting and fast faced. You won't be bored. Dr. Fuchs posts true/false review questions for each of the chapters before each test. If you go to class, read the book and understand why the review questions are t/f you should do fine. 85% up is an A. 4 tests-all multiple choice. :D
Class is extremely easy. Just read the chapters from the textbook and I I don't think its possible to get below an 85... Been to class maybe 5 times.. On the first day and the 4 test dates.
He is an overall good professor. His tests can be tricky so take good notes, read, and expect the unexpected. The material is interesting so learning it is fun.
Extremely interesting guy and class. Doen't care if you show up, but doesn't post notes online and also talks about articles in class which answer test questions. Took in a maymester. 2 tests, 1 extra credit project worth a whole letter grade. 85 and up was an A, so really only have to make 75 with e.c. project. E.C. is only for maymester I think
Dr. Fuchs is a hoot to have. His lectures are interesting and there are always some great stories. He's knowledgeable on the subject both in terms of pop culture and psychology. He test primarily over his notes and gives extra credit based on studies. He will always ask questions about neurotransmitters and specifically how things affect the brain.
Interesting class. The Prof. has many interesting stories and is very chill. He has a twisted sense of humor. His exams are mostly over the book and some over his class notes. Fun class overall!
Fun attitude, test are based on both notes and book.(Mostly notes) Have to attend class to pass(Although its not mandatory it is highly recommended) It is a good class, he is a great teacher, and the topics in class are very interesting.
One of the best professors i've had at UTA for a science class and i'm a junior. Barely used the book. His lectures and powerpoints are enough for an A. The cut off for an A is an 85+ so that really helps. He's cool, very relatable, witty, somewhat funny and very helpful. If you don't take from him, you're missing out.
Professor Fuchs is crazy funny! He says the weirdest things but that's to help you remember the material. His lectures are always interesting and his grading is fair. Be sure to read the book and attend lecture. Don't bother working through the T/F questions on Blackboard, they are useless when it comes to the exams.
Very knowledgable professor. Lectures are interesting. A lot of interesting stories. Textbook use is MANDATORY. His tests are not hard, but you MUST read the textbook. Memorizing isn't necessary but as college students you should know what is significant. 85+ is an A and semester ends before Thanksgiving. No extra credit.
I took Psych drugs and behavior. My favorite class of the semester when I wasnt even looking forward to it. Reading the book is a must. you dont have to necessarily memorize it, but know it. The powerpoints are just main themes and keypoints so go in the book and find the answers. Overall. i really enjoyed the class.
You have to go to class because he doesn't put up his notes online, only four tests in the class. Using taboos if a must because he doesn't cover all of the material. Interesting class, but not a very helpful or concise professor.
Dr. Fuchs is awesome! Very clear about where the test material comes from, very passionate about his subject; you will have to study, but there's no reason not to make an A in the course.
Exams are hard unless you read chapters and take notes in class. Only 4 exams each exam covers 4-6 chpts. , no extra credit either. He talks fast in lectures and doesn't give enough time to write down power point notes. There are no test reviews either so would not consider this class an easy A.
Hilarious and fantastic lecturer. He tells you straight up you need to read the book for his tests which are NONCOMPREHENSIVE. He goes into all of the details in class and encourages discussion in his lectures since it is psychbiohealthed(usually starts with news stories about drugs). You are done with the class like 2 weeks before finals.
One of the best professors I've ever had. Easy class, interesting material. I barely went to class (lectures are good and Fuchs is funny but I just don't like going to class) and still got an A. Just read the book, know the bold terms and you'll get an A no problem.
His personality makes him cute
Dr. Fuchs is a fair man. His lectures tend to run long and what he teaches straight from the book. You can literally stop going to class and just read the book and still pass the class. I would suggest taking notes while you read each chapter and constantly review them because he does go into detail for his tests. An 85+ is an A in his class.
An 85 is an A in his class.. Read the book and you will pass.. all of the points on the points of focus slide are on the tests.. He likes the pharmacology of the drugs.. This information is always tested!
Perry isn't a good teacher but he's a cool guy that is very smart and laid back makes lecture interesting and funny it's just a dense subject. Test are difficult but doable and he has a different grading system so it's really hard to fail.
Seriously, he tells you the first day that if you read the book you will pass. The tests cover the book and he will throw in a thing or two from the lectures. 85+ is an A. I wish he taught more stuff. Very engaging
I personally found it easier to retain information while attending his class rather than just reading for his tests. I would usually remember something based on something he said in class rather than something I had read. He is engaging and has a good sense of humor when it comes to the topic. Super laid back and 100% bearable.
does not post notes online so don't skip class unless you want to do self taught by reading the book - which you have to do anyway if you want to pass. tests are super hard if you don't read. no homework or quizzes, so tests are the only grades you get.
Always go to class. Let's face it, if you can't pass this class you should rethink going to college. 85 and above is an A. 4 tests. Class is done 3 weeks early. No final. I mean it's about drugs/alcohol. Basic biology info. Don't skip class. Read the book
Dr. Fuchs is great. He keeps the lecture entertaining. You have to read the book to pass. You can't just rely on his notes. Only has 4 tests, no final, no homework/quizzes. Done with the class a couple weeks before the semester ends. Doesn't require attendance. Tests are tough if you don't read the book
He is pretty awesome! Love the grading scale! 85 and above is an A. Lecture is not boring! so go to class! Take notes, read chapters, and theres no way you can fail!!
Yeaaa Fuchs is awesome!!!! There's a secret to this class that will make it an easy A, otherwise you gotta read the textbook and take good notes to work for your A. I took it during wintermester and made 89 overall. 84.5 and above counts as an A, you get 3 exams 90% and optional 2 pg paper + 10 sources 10% to write about anything drug related
Best lecturer that I have had. His subject matter is super interesting and he's actually a pretty funny guy. His power points are almost useless so read the book and this class will be super easy for you. You don't really have to show up but he makes the class fun so it's worth going.
If you read the book you don't need to attend the lectures but on occasion he would give out bonus questions to those who attended class because not many do. Very straight forward.
You have to read the book to pass. Tests are very hard. His slides are kind of useless, just read the book yourself. I attended every class and I only got 20% of the material from the class. I had friends who never attended class and made A's because they were not confused by his information which was just conversation for the class.
The tests were REALLY HARD. You have to read (THOROUGHLY) each and every word to pass. He doesn't take attendance. So it is better to study on your own but sometimes he does give 1 or 2 questions from the videos he shows during lecture.
I took this class online. BE PREPARED TO READ the online WileyPlus book & note you'll have to buy the book (no Chegg, etc). The book was excellent & the videos were helpful. Each week you will be required to write a discussion topic, answer 2 peers, read, & test. The Capstone at the end was a little harder than expected but would take again.
He's funny but his lectures killed me. Didn't go to class and skimmed the chapters & came out with a C. Attendance isn't mandatory.
Dr. Fuchs may be one of the best professors at UTA. His lectures are hilarious and keep you engaged. His tests are difficult and you have to read every chapter in the book. 4 exams that are non-comprehensive and you'll be done 3-4 weeks before the end of the semester. Also 85 is an A. Take this class.
You have to read every single word of the textbook if you want to pass the tests. Lectures are pretty much useless. Tends to go off topic. Best thing was that B's are 75-84.
Tests are the only grades you get in this class, no extra credit. Lectures are only like 10% of the exams. READ THE BOOK. Only four exams, not cumulative. He tends to get off topic really easily, nice guy.
Took as a wintermester. It's reading heavy, I don't think a lot of questions came from the lectures but the lectures helped solidify my understanding. As a wintermester there's 3 tests & extra credit. 85+ is an A, & the extra credit (if you got a 100) boosting your grade up a whole letter grade I thought this was worth the time crunch/stress.
Took his class during winter intersession. Great experience. Really passionate about what he does and goes into details, etc. I recommend for anyone wanting and needing to do extra classes during winter and summer intersessions.
This dude is so funny. Take it in the winter. It's stressful, but worth it. Just read the dang book
Your grade is based only on tests. A few questions came from lecture but if you read the book you honestly don't even have to show up to his class other than test days. 9/10 of questions came straight from book or common sense. Interesting subject but his sarcasm didnt really project well. Hard to tell if he was serious. Medicore at best,
He is so funny and so entertaining, he is relatable and flexible if you make the effort. Make sure to read, take notes over the reading like an outline and compare them to the lecture and you will pass
Really funny professor, keeps you engaged during lecture. Course grade is strictly exams.
Super interesting class. 85+ is an A and your overall grade comes from 4 exams (no comprehensive final). The tests are all book-based, however Fuchs will focus on topics that you need to know, so it helps to come to class, plus he's a funny and quirky guy.
Very good lectures but the tests are difficult. The amount of information in the lecture wasn't even close to the amount that was on the tests. A lot of people were failing when the thought they did well on the tests. You are only graded on 4 tests and I hardly passed the first two with reading and studying notes.
Happy its over. Overall the class was okay for sure not one of those classes you can just make a good grade by not studying. Grades are based off of 4 tests that are mandatory.
he's nice enough, very corny. his lectures are sooo boring thankfully the class is so huge that if you choose to skip theres always someone thats going to give you the notes for the day. his tests are somewhat difficult but most of the questions come from the book. READ THE BOOK can't say that enough. a B in any other class equates to an A in his
His lectures are the best. You will never be bored in class; I did learn a lot but it was tough. Your grade is based on only 4 tests; there is no final. But the test are crazy hard!!! You HAVE to read the book to do good on the test and its a lot of conceptual material. Only 10% of what he goes over in lecture is on the test. (an 86 is an A)
I took him for Drugs and Behavior and it was so bad! I ended up barely passing with a C. I read the whole book, all the chapters and attended the majority of the lectures and still barely passed the exams. Be prepared to read, def wont take again.
honestly do not know how he is still teaching. Does not reply to emails in a timely manner. Has his ta do everything minus the lectures, although she does some. She has so much attitude. No extra credit and there are only 4 exams. You have to read the book because his test want detailed answers even though he himself doesn't even cover it.
In my four years at UTA, this is the only C I have ever gotten. The prof is good and the material is interesting but the exams are so hard. You need to really read the book and understand everything in order to pass the exams. I wish I would have not taken it.
Ok so i just took his winter-mester class and as far as I am concerned, he is the best and really fun professor I have taken. Biggest thing students are missing nowadays-SHOW UP TO CLASS & PAY ATTN. He gave an extra assignment which shifts your entire grade up, if you do it. He has always answered my emails in time and always very reasonable.
He's pretty funny, Canadian so isn't rude or anything lol Kinda have to show up to pass, one of those classes that seem hard if you don't pay attention. But when you do, you're like oh he's making this make sense. NOT about the social aspects of drugs so don't expect him to be all drug fiend like. He's pretty educated.
Dr. Fuchs made this already interesting class even more interesting. He's got lots of jokes, his tests are fair, and he's always checking in on the class to make sure we understand the material. This class is not hard if you put in the work it takes to study. 4 tests only, A+ guy in my book.
Mixed feelings about this class. Highly entertaining lectures about the various drug-related subjects, but spends so much time telling stories that he does not cover much material. What is discussed in lecture is vague compared to what is on the exam, so make sure you read and pay attention to details, because they will be tested on.
He tests are so hard and he grades so harshly. He's the type of prof that you high school teacher was talking about. His test are hard for no reason, and he doesn't even teach that well.
Professor Fuchs is funny and engaging. He makes a lot of drug jokes but is also very aware of the societal issues that drugs bring about. A great guy. With the lectures alone you could likely make a B in the class. With reading the chapters before the exam its an easy A.
No point what so ever going to this class, he lectures on everything except whats on his test. Which is fine honestly but when it has nothing to do with the test and there is only 4 it kind of screws you over. The class itself is east but i felt like he made it difficult to put it all together. His TA celina (SP?) was amazing there to help whenever
The best professor I have had in my college career. He really elaborates his PowerPoint slides and gives plenty of examples. He only puts information that you need to know in the slides. Pay attention to the lecture. The book helps a lot too.
Lectures are fun and entertaining but BEWARE, you are very unlikely to receive an A in this course. Not quite sure where some of his exam questions come from. Reading chapters help but questions are deceiving and difficult. He does count an 85 as an A which is a helping curve.
Professor Fuchs was really helpful throughout the semester. His lectures are interesting but it's not necessary to go. You learn a lot of things that can be useful in whatever your future career will be. Make sure to read the book because thats mainly where test questions come from. He also gives reviews and some practice questions prior to exams.
Above an 85 is an A and he provides extra credit. His PowerPoints aren't very detailed but he talks a lot about interesting topics. Some of the stuff on the test was never taught in the lecture. Expect to read at least the chapter summaries in the (non-mandatory) book.
Tests were a bit difficult but if you try to understand the material you'll be okay. He's a great lecturer and funny.
easy A, 4 tests that are open book. lectures are interesting
4 test super easy if you just listen to his lectures and skim the book 60 min for 60 question nothing major. No Hw. Lectures are funny and informative you can tell that he cares about the subject he teaches. He said when the average was about an A for one test "Im not gonna make it harder cause its A avg, that just means im doing my job."
I really don't understand how he has bad reviews. Professor Fuchs is a charismatic and entertaining lecturer and his passion shows. His tests are open book open note, as long as you put in a little bit of effort you'll get an A. He is one of the most chill professors in the psych department for sure!
Dr. Fuchs is a very understanding professor and his lectures were interesting. He graded by 4 exams, so be sure not to miss one! Exams were open book and not difficult, so if you read the book and take notes you don't necessarily have to attend the in-person lecture. Really loved this professor!
Only had 4 exams, but they're open-book so super easy as long as you follow along with his lectures. Pretty funny in the lectures too. Definitely recommend this course if you need an interesting and easy elective.
4 exams, NO HW. in-person lectures, attendance is not mandatory. Easy A, never went to a lecture and made a 90. I could have been better if I paid attention to the lecture. TAKE HIM IF YOU NEED A FILLER!!!!
Easy professor, you literally cannot fail this guy!
Great professor! Easy lectures, 4 major exams -- also very easy. Lecture is fun to attend, he tells great stories and jokes. Would definitely take this professor and class again.
