Really dedicated and committed. Will make sure every student understands the topic before moving on. You learn as she teaches!
I attended her Friday tutorials at UBC and she was just amazing. Really made a difficult subject understandable and would do a lot of practice questions. Don't miss her tutorials!!!!
This is the hardest course but Persis is one of the best professors. She provides tons of examples, templates and is a fab teacher and making sure you understand. She is open to questions, very helpful and caring. Attend her lectures, do the homework, practice and you will do well! Ask lots of questions! She is awesome!
She really cares. As questions and attend lectures. This is the most difficult course you will take. But she does an amazing job of explaining and veyr interactive!
Toughest course I took. Attend class do all the practise questions.
Her online lectures are horrible as her Excel spreadsheets and aren't even helpful with the assignments. When I emailed her for help she brushed me off and told me to email her TA. Most of her assignments are a struggle as she gives 0 examples to help guide you. In lecture we spend 5 minutes doing nothing instead of providing us with GOOD examples.
AVOID, her quizzes and assignments are completely unrelated to her lecture slides and examples. When she does give examples they are the "easy" ones in comparison to assignments. Lecture slides on Excel are all over the place. Spends way too much time waiting for students to answer her MC questions rather than giving better examples
Avoid. She is out of touch and unknowledgeable regarding the course content. Her lectures are a joke where we watch her type formulas into excel. Exams go above and beyond what she is willing to teach her students. Does not respond to emails and clearly has put little effort into the course.
Lectures are useless. She does not teach, she just tells you to to input formulas in cells. Anyone can do that. She misses the mark for teaching and ensuring that students understand the concepts.
Hands down the hardest class and worst prof. Persis doesn't care or teach. I spent so much time studying and somehow still didn't do well on the final. She won't show you your marked exam so who knows how she actually allocates marks. Won't answer emails. Rude and discouraging to students by saying she's disappointed & to "actually" study. Avoid!!
She provides a lot of material, attend live lectures these are where she focuses on solving problems that she examines you on. Shift is to not use formulas but real life approach. Very flexible with office hours and approachable. Hangs out after class to answer questions.
Assignments are hard lots of casework. Lots of example practice questions in class and in quizzes. Mock exams are great. Focus on those and you will do well in exams. Pretty fair straightforward prof.
She really cares. This course is tough. I got so much out of it. Really shows you how to use excel. Grading is tough but she scales the marks. Very accessible and responds quick to emails and requests.
She is a tough grader but take her class and you will learn so much. She prorates her marks so you end up doing well. You really learn hands on skills that are easily transferable in the work setting - excel not archaic financial calculators! She is very understanding and approachable and replies back so quickly! Very accessible!
This was more of a self study course, with a collection of different profs. recorded videos and useless live lectures. materials for assignments, quizzes and exams were confusing. she was unsure about every thing, so that we didn't know what to study for the final . Just rely on your own perseverance and intelligence, otherwise you won't make it.
Tough course. Good prof.
Persis is a really good lecturer but the course is tough and she makes it harder with difficult quizzes, exams and homework! She eventually scales her mark so don't be disheartened
Our Professor Persis is caring and goes out of her way to help us understand and solve our problems. She is amazing and very clear in her lectures, helps us understand and makes sure we have understood her lectures her topic before moving forward.
Persis is an amazing professor, caring and goes way out to explain and answer our questions. She is patient and makes sure we all have understood before moving ahead. Attend her lectures and ask her questions, she is so prompt and clear and knows her work. Appreciate everything she has taught us.
Great Teacher, knows her work and understands us. Very clear and detail oriented. Approachable and will answer all our queries.
She is very helpful and accommodating. She gives a lot of real life examples and has a very practical approach to finance with years of experience. Her power point slides and pre readings are too detailed. Even if you just attend class and study what she goes over in class, you will do well in her course otherwise it becomes too much.
If you are ready to learn take her class, she is full of energy and knows her work and makes it simple and goes all out of her way with her lectures. You can tell she enjoys what she does and does it to excellence.
Just great at her lectures and making us feel comfortable. Caring and approachable. Teaches and makes it simple, we should not miss her lectures - extremely detailed and helpful.
Professor Persis and by far the most caring and helpful Professor. Thank you Persis
Best Professor, She is so nice and helpful. She understand your problems.
She is passionate about her students, her teaching and knowledgeable and makes sure we understand and answers all our queries.
Take this course through Persis. She knows her stuff and is an excellent teacher. You will learn a lot.
Persis is such a great teacher. She genuinely wants you to learn and is very accessible. She knows the material very well and is great at conveying the information. Make sure you don't miss out on her lectures. If you attend, most of your learning will happen in class!
Combination of brains, knowledgeable, resourceful, helpful, reachable and in short the best professor
Very understanding and caring and knows what she is teaching, thank you!
Persis is a super nice and caring. It's a little annoying that the pre-lecture readings and tasks go in more detail than is expected of us. She will skip these details during her lectures so you will know only later. If you just follow her lectures you should be fine.
Makes sure we all have understood all before proceeding. Patient and kind in her lectures and approachable.
You will actually learn very practical useful skills in this course that will help you in your jobs and add value to your team. Great prof. Seems hard marker and exams to start out but don't get nervous, the grades even out and you end up doing pretty well as long as you attempt everything and put in the effort.
If you want to learn and gain knowledge and be answered to all your queries take her courses - she is the best
One of the best professors i have had at UBC. Has great knowledge of the course and explains concepts very well. Teaches her lectures through examples which is nice and spends time explaining the concepts when you reach out to her separately.
She is amazing, has great teaching skills, knows her work and will make sure all our queries are answered. I respect her for that. Attend her lectures, ask her questions, she is patient, kind and understanding and will make us feel comfortable. Very approachable.
Extremely knowledgeable, caring, patient and hilarious too. She gives us good feedback and knows her work. Attend her lectures and ask her questions. She makes us feel at ease and welcome. I would recommend her to all, she is the best: - )
Hard subject but being an adjunct professor she's good at teaching it in a very practical approach. will be taking her for BUSI 453
Attend Ms. Persis's lectures, she is really understanding, caring and knows her work. She will make sure all our queries are answered and not worry about the time. She is very knowledgeable and respectful. Thank you Madame.
A nice person but surprised she has received such high reviews. Her prerecorded lectures are largely her reading of the slides and her synchronous lectures do not flow well. Assignments are long however she does mark them for effort and not accuracy . Quite evident that she is an adjunct instructor.
Agreed on "Her prerecorded lectures are largely her reading of the slides and her synchronous lectures do not flow well." She is a nice person and showing respect to all students. However, the way she delivered the concepts is sometimes confusing. More time for a demonstration will be good. Mostly only 1-hour online class is not enough.
Great teacher. Always able to help simplify topics. Lots of industry knowledge which she brings to the class. Would take again.
We need to attend her lectures and be ready with our questions. Professor Persis will make sure all our questions are answered/understood. She is caring and understanding and provides us with notes and make sure you submit your assignments.
I was apprehensive to take this course with Persis. But she is well-versed, knowledgeable and has a real knack of explaining things. She teaches the course once a year and if you can I would recommend you take it through her. Her notes are amazing. I will keeping them for future reference. She is receptive to questions and very practical.
You need to attend the lectures and complete the assignments and be sure to follow instructions (assignment instructions). Any queries approach her, very understanding.
Tough course but she does a great job!
Makes us feel comfortable and very approachable.
Attend her lectures and connect with her. She is calm and caring.
Persis has a very practical approach to this course and is very kind and caring. She makes extra effort to teach the course in a way that is actually helpful and less onerous. She doesn't reply back to emails and you can get a better hold of her by hanging around before or after class.
She is a nice prof but boring, not prepared, not accessible and lots of pre-reading. You are better off skipping lectures and just listening to the recordings.
Very resourceful and approachable, you need to attend her lectures. Thank you Maam
Good qualities that are needed in a Professor with excellent teaching skills
Attend her lectures and be attentive, do not hesitate to email/connect with her with queries, excellent and approachable.
Interesting and clear in her lectures and approachable.
Caring and intelligent, attend her lectures they are amazing
Very committed, clear in her explanations. Caring and respectful. Easy going, I would take her lectures again and highly recommend her.
Persis is caring kind and respectful, she is excellent in teaching and a caring professor.
Misses the mark on teaching. Unprofessional and hard to communicate with outside of class hours. She did a couple in-class examples wrong, was made aware of the mistakes, and failed to update the class on how to correctly solve the problems before the final.
Participation matters so attend the lectures and approach Professor Persis she is approachable and caring.
Thoughtful, caring and respectful, knows her work and goes the extra mile.
You learn a lot of practical useful knowledge. She is really busy but approachable and genuinely cares. Very relatable and well experienced.
Good lectures, attend her lectures and approach her with queries. Caring and respectful.
Very disorganized. She didn't have the right syllabus and had two assignments due within 2 days over the weekend. Dropped the course to avoid the headache. She also said she is a "CEO" of a company so it is very hard to contact her. Why does she teach if students can't contact her? Not sure how she is during the term, just a bad first impression
Avoid the course at any cost.
A great teacher with so much patience and caring. Excellent notes...you will learn a ton.
She makes me feel so comfortable and helps with my queries, very caring and you can connect with her after class too.
This course is crazy. BE PREPARED to study 24 hours a day...HORRIBLE!
She is not teaching at an Instructor level. Always looks like a teaching assistant crawling to get through the problem with numerous mistakes. She has the solution sheet to the examples that she solves in lecture, and keeps looking at them and still makes many mistakes. She may know the material, but "definitely does not know how to teach".
It is a tough course so be ready to attend and connect with professor Persis, she helps me after class too.
Inspiring and helpful professor, you need to attend the lectures - intense.
Very caring and respectful and made sure how we all were doing with the content during the term. Encouraging, it was a tough course but she was available for our queries. Recommended.
Persis is an amazing professor who is respectful, caring and encouraging. The course was a tough one but she repeats and explains the concept multiple times. Attending the lectures are important as her notes are very informative and helpful.
Average on the midterm was 50-55% and said this immediately before starting "this should be nothing new and a very straightforward midterm" lol. Accidentally screenshared her chatgpt script that she reads word for word during class. Really disorganized but I still did well enough in the class.
It was a tough course, but Pers is very caring and her feedback on assignments very helpful. Exams were fair, we have to study the concepts she teaches carefully.
Amazing, caring make sure you attend and take down all the notes. She makes sure we have all understood before moving forward. Feel very satisfied.
The best professor with patience, knowledgeable and helpful.
Knowledgeable, helpful and dedicated. Her lectures are amazing and she is very helping and caring.
I highly recommend Persis, very thorough and professional. Attend her lectures, she is available to answer and solve your queries.
Dedicated, caring and resourceful. Extremely helpful and always eager to help/respond to our queries.
Very dedicated and caring, I would recommend this Professor.
Persis is caring, has lots of patience and knows what she teaches and does it very well.
Persis' lectures were very disorganized as she would focus on doing lightning-fast demonstrations of Excel functions that made it difficult to keep up. Templates were not uploaded on time but she always claimed they were uploaded the same night. She was impossible to reach via email and was abrasive/unfriendly. All the good reviews here are fake.
ATTEND CLASS!!! U CANNOF RELY ON VIDEOS OR ASYNCHRONOUS MATERIAL FROM HER!!!!! I was lucky to attend class and ask her questions during office hours but otherwise very difficult to get a response out of her!
Don't take if you need hand holding. She is matter of fact and not responsive outside of class. Really knows her stuff, very knowledgeable. I thoroughly enjoyed her class.
Avoid at all cost!
lectures felt useless, all self-learning in this class. very disorganized. unless you're very familar with the topics avoid her classes.
It is a tough course, but the professor goes all out and is very sincere.
Detail oriented and very sincere, caring and helpful.
Available after lectures and very helpful.
