The best math teacher I ever had. I usually suck at anything that has to do with math, but Bloomsburg was so easy to understand I actually did well in his classes. He's probably one of the nicest professors around with a very funny dry sense of humor.
he made me fall asleep cuz his voice was so soft....
He looks like an electricuted gopher. Class is ok. Everynow and then he gets weird. "Well only 1 person out of both my classes got an 'A' on the exam. I guess you guys didn't study hard enough."
Good teacher. Has a dry sense of humor and can be fun, but he did seem to get a bit grumpy and mean towards the end of quarter. Probably best suited for people who already grasp math well and don't need alot of help.
i'd fall asleep in his class a lot, and lecture is often very difficult to understand, skipped steps etc, but then again I think sequences & series is hard no matter who you have
we came to the inclusion that he looks more like an ostrich : ) Towards the end of the quarter he had the tendency to not come to class or teach for a maximum of 10 minutes. He also seemed to develop some strange policies regarding quizzes.
he doesn't have a good 238 lecture and the book doesn't help, all I can say Is I didn't have a good time in his class at all and I am a math/phys major
I had come to the conclusion that nobody learns in his class because he only teaches hw and tests on hw. When I asked him questions after class he didn't help me, but replyed, walking away "well you should have studied". I can only say unless you are desperate for Math "don't ever take his class".
Syllabus & grading almost fair but he wasn't available during hrs he lists in syllabus. Skipped steps in lectures. I made appts--he didn't even devote 10 mins to B grade students. Study groups met in the math lab to figure out what he had skipped. Comp final he was anxious & impatient. :(
He was a terrible teacher. If you dont already understand the main concepts you may as well give up before you start. He can't explain anything i had to teach myself everything i learned. If you absoluly must take this class... learn to love the math lab.
not bad teacher, not really fun, but it's not boring either.
For those who think he's hard, vague, or not very helpful, remember that you gotta actually study outside of class. I took him for 156 also and although he's strict on some things, like giving you points after you've seen the quiz, etc, he's pretty nice. If you do your part, he'll help you.
Super easy class. He assigns homework everyday, it helps to get a better grade because the homework counts into the grade.
He is tough at the start of 156 cause he expects you to know review material. After a couple weeks he starts lecturing. He is a good teacher and genuinely cares about his students. His grading is fair. He gives lots of opportunity to make your grade what you want it to be. I reccomend him.
He is pretty fair. WAY better than Villines. I would take Aklaghi over him though.
His classes aren't for slackers, but if you actually take the time to study it is possible to get an A His lectures are a little lacking in parts so I found myself studying from the book most of the time. His tests can be tricky, but if you master the examples in the book, you will do fine. I would recommend him. Sure, the class was boring at times, but I did end up learning a hell of a lot.
Just go to class and pay attention. He's nice and it's easy.
He goes through things pretty fast,I'm not a math fan so it was hard for me. He tries to help but ends up making things more complicated than need be.If you focus and spend time on it, and can kinda learn alone than you'll be ok. he gives weekly quizzes but at the end you work in groups
Excellent Math teacher, helps you understand the material when needed. Plenty of chances to get on track and get your grade where you need it. Good class.
Excellent teacher! If you can get his lectures, you're fine, otherwise, read the book. Great teacher, I'll take him again next quarter.
Awful. Didn't explain the concepts well enough at all. I withdrew and took the same class again the next quarter with Gronlund, and got an A-. It was obviously his teaching style.
Of course, I am not a fan of the subject matter (calculus), but he did a great job for me of getting the info to stick. He has you take quizzes that turn into group quizzes at the end. If you ask for help, he will give it to you, but you hve tomake sure you do your homework, because you wont get him if you're not trying.
Good teacher. Nice guy. Helpful for the most part unless he really wants YOU to figure it out. In which case it means you are thinking too hard and overlooking the obvious.
He's a good teacher if you pay attention and take notes. The assigned homework is really helpful. He goes off on tangents about math problems he'll never require you to do, but just because he thinks they're fun - don't try to understand, just ignore those times or you will get VERY confused, just focus on the stuff you need to know.
he can be pretty confusing but he tries very hard to pass all his students...group/take home quizes and notecards?! you gotta admit that's pretty nice of him...^^
If you don't already understand the concepts, he's really confusing. he assigns alot of homework, an doesn't clarify what he wants. But overall he's a nice guy. And his intentions are good.
not my favorite subject, and his lectures would confuse me even more. may as well read the book and review it's examples. i understood the material more when he worked with me one on one. but overall, he's a nice guy and means well. often lets you work on quizzes, some tests, with a partner.
Bloomsburg is the guy to take if you are good at learning from the book. Most of his lectures are good and you can just go off your notes, but some times you need to check the book. Most quizzes turn into group quizzes if he sees people are having trouble. Makes you turn in homework too and is ok with a few late ones. Great grading system.
very helpful, during test and quizzes, he would walk around to see how we are doing on and sometimes he makes them into group quizzes/tests, gives homework everyday but if u do them, it helps.
Bloomsburg is a bigot pig who chooses who he likes from day 1. watch out because you will not be graded based on your knowledge, nor will Bloomsburg take the time during office hours to help his students. be ware!!! be warned!!! I am a 3.7 GPA student prior to this course with him
This guy is a total moron. He erases the board before your done writing even when you ask him not to. Watch out for his final, the review he gave us had nothing to do with the final he gave us. He's a tricky **** and I think he enjoys screwing with people.
The first couple weeks of school you think that the class is easy as hell and that it's pointless. He is a very slow and boring teacher. He brings cookies in to try and make the class lively. The exams and tests taken have nothing to do with what you are learning. He says if you show you tried you get a good grade on tests thats BS!!!!!! bad class

i love infinite series and sequences becuz of this class. by far the best/easiest math prof i had at BCC. tho, i've seen some pretty bad reviews, so maybe he caters more towards the higher math classes? sadly the only math class at BCC i 4.0'd
He is kind of a dork but he loves what he does. He likes to help out his students although he can sort of be unclear, but it makes sense in his head so he expects it to make sense to you. One of the easier classes I've taken at BCC
He's a nice teacher who offers moderate homewoks and weekly quizs or Exams to keep students on track. If you work hard and come to his class often, there is no problem to earn an A.
Avoids simple, easy to answer questions. Continues w/ the lecture when people don't understand, rarely explains what he is doing, expects you to know Calculus before you get into Calculus. He is hard to understand and his tests rarely have anything to do with what he supposedly "taught" in class. IF YOU HAVE OTHER OPTIONS, TAKE THEM!!!!!!!!!
Great teacher. Drops your lowest quiz score, and replaces your lowest test score with your final (if you scored higher on the final). No due dates for homework but homework is useful and he doesn't assign too many problems. EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE!!!! Great teacher I would take 157 wit him if he taught it.
Horrible teacher. Had no interest in actually doing his job and helping the class. Was there every day and often asked for help. He expected us to know Calculus when we were in pre-calc. Not willing to answer any questions he deemed "too dumb". The best week of the class was when he was out and some one else taught. This guy sucks!
The bottom line is: go to class, do the homework, and ask questions (this is a college course after all, so this should come as no surprise). He gives a few helpful quizzes (almost identical to tests), most of which were group quizzes. Keep your book handy though, he's not always crystal-clear on everything.
His lectures are really boring and I don't feel like he really added anything to the class. It's one of those classes where you'll be learning primarily from the textbook. Quizzes were easy though, and he didn't collect homework or take attendance. Make sure you study the test reviews, though the final was pretty hard regardless in my opinion.
All you need for this class is the book and solutions manual. really he doesnt teach anything useful. His test are hard but if you study the practice exam you will be well prepared. Final is extreamly hard!
As a student who struggled with some of the "lower" math classes, I dreaded taking a 200-level course. With Bloomsburg, I not only found that I could do well, but I found myself having fun as well. While he may not always be crystal clear in his explanations, he's more than willing to discuss a topic after class for greater clarity.
Pete is very nice and friendly teacher. He give his students much freedom. If you have any questions, he will be nice to answer all your questions. He has lots of teaching experience. He gives you lots of homework, but you don't have to hand in. If you do all your homework, getting an A is for sure.
Excellent instructor, very clear and easy to follow. Prepare for class by reading and doing the homework you will have greater understanding. Highly recommend Prof Bloomsburg.
Helpful teacher, he has a lot of teaching experience. He doesn't take attendance or collect homework, but make sure you go to class and do the homework, it helps a lot. Quizzes are done in groups and pretty easy. He drops your lowest quiz score and test score. Definitely recommend him!
Amazing teacher! I took 151 with him and loved it. He was really fun and easygoing and made it about learning the material, his tests are hard and if you want an A do the homework.
Pete is the best teacher for math I have ever had in my life. I used to be an avergage math student who got passed with B's and C's, and after taking Pete's class, I became a 4.0 student in business calculus. I even took him for the second level of business calculus. BEST TEACHER EVER!!!
He does not teach from the text book so useless, since he has his way of solving problems and thats the way he wants you to solve them as well. His tests are difficult and he likes to trick you. He does grade on a curve but Also expects you to now calc in a pre calc class. Do not take him if don't already have a sound math foundation
I didn't enjoy his class at all; probably one of the worst courses I've ever taken. He was definitely not the most helpful person and his lectures were much too vague for me. I have a hard enough time with math, and he just made it MORE difficult. I don't recommend him to anyone.
Persenally he is very nice, I like him, but his class homework takes long hour and too boring. So, we spent time, money for skill and better grade, but not the final.
Pete is a great teacher, he really knows his stuff and very willing to help you understand. He also has no real due date on your homework, so you can take your time on it if you need, but I reccomend doing your homework every night so you can get help the next day. His practice exams also mimic the test almost to a T, even with some freebies!
He is a really good professor!I totally recommend him if you are thinking of taking math classes. He is really funny and knows what he is teaching. If you have confidence in Math his class is really easy. I'm not a Math major student, but the class was really fun and easy to get an A+
Mr. Bloomsburg is awesome. I was very fortunate to have him as a instructor. To be successful in his class: 1.) Attend class daily 2.) DO THE HOMEWORK 3.) Come to class with questions 4.) Study 5.) Get a tutor. It's easy to fall behind in this class.
He is the most amazing professor one could wish for. To be successful in his class you have to work in the Math Lab. He gives old papers for review and HW assignments, Attend every day to learn from him because his teaching will definitely help in future. If you get for 138 as well, just blindly take him.
Very good teacher and very knowledgeable. I would definitely take his classes again at any level.
Great professor! Definitely my favorite math teacher. There was this one kid that sat in the back and asked about 20 moronic questions every day and Mr. Bloomsburg was very patient with him. He gives old tests as HW so you will never be surprised by what is on the tests. Take this class!!
Very cool professor. He really loves teaching math! I liked the practice exams - same format as real test. Answered everyones questions clearly, always with a smile. Daily HW can be turned in anytime until the last day of class and quizzes were group quizzes plus take home. Highly recommended!
The best math teacher i ever had. Answered everyones questions clearly. Daily HW can be turned in anytime until the last day of the quarter and quizzes were group quizzes and you can take home. Make sure you dont get behind in your hw.
Great teacher, fair grading. Would recommend!
Worst teacher. Spends class time on previous days homework and doesn't manage time to provide instruction on current day's homework. Gives exams on material he hasn't covered, but expects you to learn on your own, but don't solve using methods provided by the textbook?? I thought we were there to learn and the instructors to teach!! WORST TEACHER!!
He's a good teacher! I have him for Calculus I and of course it's not going to be easy. He has a very friendly attitude towards many students. I really appreciate him giving odd numbered problems because they have the work and answers to the problems. You'll have to study a lot, but hey, it's college! Keep it up Mr. B! :)
Great Professor, great attitude! I have him for Calculus and of course it'll be hard. Just study and make sure you get the material and he shall prove to be a great teacher!
He's a great guy! You can tell that he really cares for his students and wants them to succeed. Doesn't try to trick you. Very straightforward. Don't get behind and you will do well
Best math teacher I've ever had! Hadn't taken math in 3 quarters, took Pete and got right back into it. Daily HW but very similar to what tests look like and isnt due until end of the quarter. gives old tests for practice. CRYSTAL CLEAR and willing to answer any and all questions. Learned a lot and actually understood it!
He's a great math teacher. Clearly explains things and answers questions. Daily homework is due by the end of the quarter and he gives practice tests exactly like the actual test. Of course math takes some work and time for studying if you want an A, but he's a great teacher
Great teacher. A lot of homework, but it can be turned in any time during the quarter. He actually cares about his students. Would definitely recommend.
I don't know why he has gotten bad reviews. He's great! I hadn't taken math for 5+years and he made this class manageable. At times it was a challenge but his review worksheets before the exams are lifesavers! Just make sure you can do those, and you're golden. The textbook is kind of confusing, but don't let that discourage you.
DO NOT EVER TAKE HIS CLASS! he's horrible, you never learn anything from him and all he does is proving the formulas and giving you very hard homework about stuff he did not even teach in the class. His tests are extremely tough and all his class does for you is dragging down your GPA! I wish I hadn't taken his class.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! He really likes the subject but does not know how to teach! There were several times when a student asked him to do a specific problem and he turned his back to the class and solved the problem without saying a single thing.
guy gives same format as old test for review. But problems on test were completely more advanced for ones that you studied for. When you ask doesn't give you direct answers. Will take off points for minor details missing. But the test were a lot harder then they should be
If you ask a question he responds with "if you don't know then you need to take a lower level math." No one will ask for help now. He doesn't create a good learning environment. There are hints of niceness but overall I'm glad he isn't my teacher anymore.
One of the best math instructors I've had. Generous with his office hours and help, completely fair grader, and everything on the exams will be similar to the practice exams and take-home quizzes (no real surprises). If you're looking for an easy Calculus class that you can pass without doing the work, here's a hint: they don't exist.
Professor Bloomsburg is the best Math instructor I've ever had. When I came to his class I hated Math, but now I'm looking forward to take Math 148 with him! His instructions are clear and he helps everyone who has any questions. He also brings extra calculators to class, in case if someone doesn't have one.
Pete Bloomsburg is a great professor, he cares about his students and posts everything online which makes it very accessible. The class consist of 2 midterms and a cumulative final (I had class 2 days/week), weekly homework but everything is due at the end of the quarter. Overall great professor, study the quizzes/worksheets over the book homework.
Nice professor. He will teach you how to solve math problems, but you will have to try to understand the concepts by yourself, since his explanations to those concepts could be somewhat unclear. Go to lectures, do homework, go to office hours and you will do well on exams. Questions on exams could be tricky but not unpredictable.
best math instructor I've had.fair grader, and everything on the exams will be similar to the practice exams.
Mr. Bloomsburg is by far the best math teacher I've ever had. He is clear and concise about the material and what he expects of his students to get an A, provides helpful study guidespractice exams, and is more than willing to help students with their questions. Highly recommend.
He is very nice, always smile and speak slowly. Clearly lecture, not strict on grade, totally perfect instructor. The calculator is required, but not the textbook. Daily homework, 5 quizzes, 4 exam, 450 points in total. Homework maybe long and difficult, but the exam is easy. We have old exam to practice before test, so don't worry about it.
There are lots of homework but they are not due until end of the quarter! exams are pretty easy and very similar to practice exams!
A good amount of homework, he kinda loses his place sometimes and forgets where he is. But it was an Ok class. I just didn't study and ended up failing the class....
Pete is such nice instructor and I take his 138 and 148 equally have fun. Daily homework, some quizzes and 4 tests. He is not strict teacher, but you should pay attention to this class, because they're getting harder and will be challenge on final .
Mr. Bloomsburg is a very nice teacher. The lecture is easy to understand and the tests are always similar to the quizzes, practice exams and old exams ! He just change some datas. It's easy if you come to class and listen carefully to him. There are homework every day yet all the solutions are on canvas. I highly recommend him. He's awesome !
This professor stated one thing and did the total opposite, he made it so students thought certain things were okay and the deducted points for doing them. Did not want to explain when asked to go more in depth. Would not recommend taking him unless you are already good at math.
An amazing professor. I had him for Math 138 fall quarter, and now taking his 148 class this quarter. One of my favorites. If you can questions or need help he will help you on the spot, and if you need extra help you can visit him in his office where he will help you on one one. Homework problems are decent. Test aren't difficult.
His grading is very tough and not consistent, does not provide detailed instruction on assignments and has a weird fixation on trying to catch cheaters.
He is probably my favorite math teacher I've had. It's not hard to get a good grade if you do the homework daily so you know what you don't understand and can ask questions in class. His practice tests are basically the same as the real tests, but with different data. If you are willing to put in the work you can get a lot out of this class.
Homework every night, book not needed. Group quizzes biweekly, do all the work and you will do well on tests. Provides plenty of practice packets. Not overly helpful, must ask for out of class help. Starts class early often. Expect an hour or two a day reviewing for tests, they are tough but reasonable, however he's a super harsh grader.
He's a really lenient chill teacher. Math is much more fun and interesting with him. At first he might be awkward but he's amusing. Quizzes are pretty much group quizzes and he lets you take it home. Problem sets aren't due til the end of the quarter but doesn't affect your grade negatively if you don't do em. Take. His. Classes.
Pete moves at a quick pace, lecturing on new topics everyday and moving through material pretty rapidly. He gives homework every night, with up to 40 or so problems so it can tend to add up if you don't stay on top of it. Attendance is not required, but if you miss even one class you can easily fall behind. Great guy, but difficult to keep up with.
He is a very tough grader on exams. Lectures were a bit unclear. Homework were extremely long. I wouldn't take him again. This class lowered my gpa. Be aware!!
Pete is a really good professor. He provides old exams, practice exams before the final exam. there will be three 100 points exams, 11 quizes and homework worth of 50 points and one final exam of 100 points. Do your homework to pass the class. There will be new topics everyday, therefore, do not miss the class. All the Best!
Here's the thing... Professor Bloomsburg is incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable, but he's not very good at teaching. It's very hard to get him to try a different approach when the current one isn't clicking. Also, the class is structured very self-learning oriented. He will help you if you ask, but you will be doing that a lot.
Pete the best math i ever had. He is so clear on what you need to study for a test he is always willing to help you and again is the best math teacher i ever had
best teacher i ever had for math
Best math teacher of all time.
Intelligent. Terrible teacher. Doesn't lecture or give fundamental information before jumping right into problems from the book. I'm convinced he likes showing HE knows how to work problems more than teaching others to do them. Obsessively paranoid about test cheaters. Doesn't ensure class understanding before moving on. Lots of blank stares.
Great teacher I never had an in a math class until his
This teacher is underrated he deserves 5 stars for this teaching skills
Pete is intelligent and easy going. Homework can be turned in at any time, but when it comes to teaching, he isn't the best. Everyday he would work problems from the homework on the board but doesn't actually teach it. Exams were graded harshly as well. Not to mention, he doesn't put in our grades which made it hard to see how we are doing.
Pete is a great teacher, he can be picky sometimes, but like his group quizzes and 2 practice scans before every test. It helps, I took his 138 class and got a B+ on the first try his 148 I got a B-. I48 is a lot be ready to have math as a full time for a quarter
Pete doesn't teach, he works problems. Rules are found while working a problem you have to pick them up yourself. 3 exams, lowest grade is dropped, final goes in twice to replace dropped exam. Does not like to explain himself, only knows his way to work problems. Does not use canvas you won't know your grade all quarter. Turn in all HW and quizzes
Ask lots of questions! He's very clear but goes through lessons at a fast pace so try to keep up. He keeps the lectures, solutions, and old tests on canvas for extra help so use them! He's a great professor, I recommend for Math!
Pete is by far my favorite math teacher to date. I personally love the way he teaches math. I do not like the traditional teaching straight from the textbook. This guy is great.
Attendance is not mandatory. Homework is given daily but you do a lot of it in class and you can turn it in anytime before the test day. A basic day is going over the previous days homework then doing examples from the next day. Answer keys for homework and practice tests are on canvas.
Pete is awesome. I hate math, and thought I was gonna fail MATH141, but he made it understandable and clear for me. He is a professor who cares and will give the extra help if needed. His class is very structured, which helps a ton in math, and the assignments correlate directly to the quizzes and exams. Grade composed of 3 main exams, hw, & final
Pete is a great professor, I have taken him for Math141 and 142. 142 was much more challenging than 141, but his feedback really helped me to succeed in both classes. He is super flexible with homework assignments and everything is due at the end of the quarter, so you don't have to commit time every single night to doing homework. Overall, great!
Try getting a better professor. He'll work if you can't get anyone better but he goes through new material really fast and doesn't explain well. Get ready to teach yourself at home quite a bit. Also, you don't know your grade during the quarter. He can easily fix it on canvas but he just doesn't for some reason! :(
