cool guy, loves math, if you didnt' take calc in HS be hesitant but if you have taken it definatly take him, very helpful outside of class, hates it when you miss class
My first Cal teacher and he really makes me interested in that dry subject. Cool guy with weird yet funny sense of humor. If ure nice to him, he'd bring sweets for the whole class during exams! study n u'd get 3.3-3.7. Study super hard u might get 4.0
oh my gosh, do not take. he's nice, funny, etc. but his class is soooo hard. gives tons of hw and his tests are ridiculous...other math teachers let u bring a cheat sheet, not him. don't take!
He goes really fast, lots of work. Take only if you absolutely love trig & calc
very hard. you can study all u want and still not do well in class. avoid at all costs.
too hard, too much homework and not very flexible
Good teacher. Gotta Keep up w/ the work. A lot of homework but helps understanding. Review sheets are exatly like the exams. Gives points wherever he can so you dont totally fail if you mess something up
GREAT prof!! A really down to earth nice guy, who makes class interesting by joking around. Very very helpful; will be pleased to meet with or answer any question through e-mail. A lot of hw, which he goes through in class before handing in. Excellent review sheets which are exactly like the exam!
Pretty fun for a math course. I didn't find his course that challenging. Homework every night; you have lots of work. Calc is a boring subject, but I'd recommend Pete for it.
an awesome guy, young.calls himself "your fearless leader", goes really fast and is sometimes unclear, tests are hard and so is homework but if you do it you'll be fine. take it cuz ciccarelli is the MAN!

I think that he is really nice teacher. Always there to help you, make jokes that arent really funny but really amuzing. DUE THE REVIEW SHEETS. Everything that you need to know is on those, really helpful
He's a great guy, you'll learn a lot. He's funny and young, but he gives a lot of work and springs up projects on ya.

he's a really cool guy. very laid back and teaches you what you need to know. does a LOT of examples in class which is really helpful. he's always around for extra help if u need it. he let's you call him pete, he's a good teacher!
I had him for 123 and 126 and he's just a really funny, young, down to earth guy. Goes REALLY fast in lectures, take the notes and figure it out later.Hard tests and lots of homework, but if you put the time in you learn so much and do so well. Cic is the man!
he teaches very clearly, grades fairly
Takes easy concepts and drags on forever with examples. The homework is ridiculously long and unncessary. He'll say "you need to just roll up your sleeves and get some practice" but you really don't. It's easier to just take another professor.
If you want to have a lot of stupid homework, take this class. He's funny and clever, in a nerdy way, but he teaches one thing and then does 108438498 examples. Assigns 20 redundant problems a night. The best part of that class is farting and seeing if anyone notices.
He gives a lot of h/w but he is always in his office for help. Math is hard so yeah his class is hard, but he is sooooo nice and really funny. In general its a fun class.
He's always around for help. He's funny and classes are fun (you go over problems from the previous set of homework and write notes) His lectures are kinda fast but interesting. Do the review sheet & you'll be fine! Definitely take him! Put in the effort and score at least a 3.7 :)
Very helpful. Easy class and gives study guides before each test. Funny guy and usually a funny class. Have homework but it's only helps you in the end. Good class.
Had him for both...best math teacher i've ever had. tests are a lil tricky but as long as u do the homework u'll get it.
Toatally a cool guy, not the best teacher. The class isn't bad, but the tests are a pain the in ass. He goes out of his way to make the tests as hard as possible.
3 quizzes, 2 tests, 1 final, hw due every class. its all easy though. just do the review sheet.
The class is run extremely quickly. I would not recommend him to anyone that is not good in math. Quizzes and Test are very hard. However, he does give a study guide before major tests. Not a bad teacher, but again if your bad at math don't take him.
hard, but nice. very helpful. math is not my thing, but i still did well. as long as you study hard, do the h/w visit his office hrs and ask questions, you should be perfectly fine.
i got a's in math my whole life and took honors calc senior year, came to this class, got all 60's and 70's. go figure. he teaches well but his tests are too hard and complicated, understanding the basic material isnt enough, no cheat cheats, and cumulitive final.
Easiest math class I have ever taken. Got a 4.0.
He's a cool guy, but unless you like redundant work and unnecessarily tricky test questions dont take him.
He's the best teacher. He goes over problems very clearly. he makes review sheets for the test and its very helpful. he knows what he's teaching and just go to class and listen to his lecture. u;ll do fine
He teaches in a very clear way...he goes over all types of problems. The tests cna be difficult but as long as you pay attention in class you'll be fine!
very nice professor, gives you review sheets before the tests which are helpful and is always available if you need extra help. really knows his stuff
Great teacher. I have taken him for two semesters and he explains everything very clearly. He has review packets that mimic questions on the test and he is always available for extra help.
Great professor! Take him! Very nice, always willing to help. Gives thorough study guides & answers before all 3 tests. Fair grader. Great guy.
He's one of the best math teachers I have ever had. I recommend him to anyone, definately go for him. He's very easy to understand and the quizzes and test are not that bad. Definately take him!
Very nice man. However, he goes through material extremely quick with examples that don't always apply to the homework. Gives a thorough study guide before test, but test questions can be extremely tricky. Hard if math is not your best subject.
Petes a pretty good teacher, he gives nice study guides. Tha bad thing is daily homework is a ****, but it does make you learn the material.
He knows what he is talking about and he thinks that all of his students do as well. He is a very nice man, kind of corky, but he moves extremely quickly and leaves many of his students behind. His tests are pretty difficult. Some other MA123 teachers let you use a cheat sheet, he never would let us. He is helpful and smart, but hard.
best professor i have had so far and he is so helpful he wants his students to do well and he's such a nice guy
awesome man!! Take his class if you can... he is a great teacher and he is always willing to help you if you dont understand something...
Nice guy, great teacher. Actually requires that you learn the Calc. I got 90+ on all tests and final but somehow ended up with a 3.3 though... so do your HW and study for the quizzes. If you actually want to learn Math, Ciccarelli is the guy to take.
Makes class fun, jokes a lot.Unbelievably helpful if you dont understand.Always offers extra credit on exams.Take him for math. You will find a lot of students who have taken him for multiple math classes.
Amazing teacher. Tests are easy, and he explains the info really well. I definately reccommend him! Take him if you can! If you are decent at math you will gat at leat a 3.7! AMAZING TEACHER!!!
Seems to go a little on the fast side - might be somewhat difficult for ppl who never had calc before. But he's very clear, gives lots of explanations, writes definitions out. Goes over homework in class, tests are long (multiple part questions) but are fair. Always extra credit avaiable on tests and he gives out candy! Nice guy overall
a great guy overall. his teaching is easy to follow and he is always willing to help people after class. go to his office hours jsut to hear his stories they are great.
Pete is the man! The class little fast paced if you haven't taken a calc course before, but if you need help, he's always willing. Plus he makes up fun examples
pete is a fantastic teacher, i took him for both 123 and 126 and will definitely be taking him again for a math elective. Great guy and very helpful inside and outside of class. He really wants you to do well
Class was really tiring, and he tries his best to make you enjoy it. But when it comes to the work, you really have to study. Tests can be really hard...but he is really nice and helpful.
Ciccarelli does a good job teaching the content. The only problem is taking notes. He speaks very quickly. I would advise asking him to clarify concepts that you don't understand either in class or in office hours. Other than that, he's a great guy.
Pete is an excellent teacher. He really cares well you do in class. He moves through his lectures very quickly. A plus side is you sometimes get out of class early. If you are having difficulties in class I would advise going to see him during office hours. He is very willing to help with any problems. Hes a great teacher but you have to work.
Pete is awesome! he teaches really well and is very clear even if you dont get it office hoursll help a lot he is very helpful. though he makes his tests pretty hard, he has a great grading system that absorbes one bad grade ciccarellis the best math teacher ive ever had def take him!
Prof. Ciccarelli is a hilarious and charming math professor. He truly enjoys learning/teaching math and you can tell by how enthusiastic he is during class. Before every test he gives out practice problems/solutions and test solutions after they're returned. He is thorough and organized. Adorable personality too! Take his class!
Pete is by far the best math teacher I have EVER had. His lectures are straight to the point and clear, and while he goes fast, you get used to absorbing it that rate. Pretty much, you'll have a lecture, do hw on the section, and then review the hw next class. His tests and quizes are not hard if you do/understand the review sheets he gives out
DISREGARD my previous rating, i messed up his helpfulness score
One of the best professors I have at Bentley. Material is relatively easy and there are around 20-30 homework problems after he goes over one section. He is a funny guy and has really really neat handwriting.
HW problems can be a nag, but they're 20% of your grade, so that is in your hands. His quizes are hard, and he knows it, but they're only 10%. Tests are straightforward questions; he doesn't try to trick you, all the questions are things gone over (questions are on average 5-7/10 on the tests, nothing ridiculous.) Makes you chuckle once every class
Really one of the best Professors I ever had. The class is work intensive but he is always willing and available to help. Very clear and even makes bomb review sheets with solutions. He takes such an interest in his classes that it makes me even more interested. LOVE THIS PROF.
Highly recommended. I completely agree with the person below.
Best math professor!! I took him for ma131 and also for ma 139 and i don't regret it one bit! if you are planning to take these courses he is the best professor for it!! Got 4.0 in both classes by working on his review sheets for midterms! TAKE HIM 100% :)
Pete is a very nice professor who is always available in case you need help. He always help students and is so clear in class it is hard for you not to understand his class. His class isn't entirely easy, but he gives you all the tools to succeed in the class. I would say an easy 3.7 or 4.0 with a little of dedication and studying.
Good guy
Pete is a good guy and loves what he teaches. His review sheets are very extensive but his tests are ten times harder than his review sheets. Prepare to study if you want to do well in this class. Nothing comes easy out of it. I took Calculus in High School and for some reason and so did a lot of other kids in my class. Still didn't do well.
Very nice, helpful and funny guy. Covers all the material in class and explains definitions and theorems very well. Office hours are very helpful. If you have taken some sort of calculus class before, he is a very good teacher.
I took Calc I and II in high school and did fine in them. Somehow when it came to his class I struggled a lot. He makes it a point to give you tougher test than other professors to make sure you know your stuff. He's a really chill guy, makes funny jokes. There are easier professors to take.
my favorite teacher, trying to get him for next semester.
He is a great professor who teaches through many examples and is always eager to help students. If you put in the time to do the homework and understand the material it will show on your tests
I highly suggest taking Pete. His grading is very fair and the breakdown honestly helps your grade a ton. You'll have to study for the tests but as long as you do the review sheet and all the homeworks then chances are you'll get a 3.7 or 4.0 in the class.
good prof!
I came from Pre-Calculus and the class was really difficult but if you do the review packets (and I don't mean only look them over), they take a couple hours but if you actually DO them, the exams are cake. He is the chillest prof I have and am taking him for 139.
He isn't the easiest prof for Calc but his review packets are a life-saver. If you take him seriously you will be fine. Homework takes like an hour to 1.5 hours which is not that bad for Calculus. Easy to talk to and his random jokes throw you off but they are hilarious.
He is a great guy and an amazing teacher (really knows his stuff). He gives you review sheets before the exam, which are super helpful. But, he is tough, definitely much harder than other teachers. Office hours are helpful and he is very clear. I'm probably taking him again next semester!
Great guy who is very helpful
My semester with Professor Ciccarelli was immensely pleasurable. He is great at teaching the material and happy to have anyone come by his office for extra help, but there is usually a long line outside of his office. Many people were forced to drop this class because of their grades, but if you put in the work, you will succeed. Take this class.
Puts a lot of effort to make sure everyone understands. Everything he gives has worked solutions, which is extremely helpful. Tests aren't too bad if you study for them. Quizzes aren't bad either. Made class interesting.
Good professor and the class isn't bad. There is both manual and online homework for each class. The tests are tough.
He is the best guy ever. His class is super difficult but he gives exam review packets that are basically the exam. Took him for 131 and 139 and had to work for my grades but definitely learned the material.
He is really funny and wants his students to succeed. He will give you honest feedback, and his examples are pertinent to the material covered in class.
Calculus II would be hard with any Professor, but Ciccarelli is always available for help and gives very clear examples. If you do all of the homework, tests aren't that difficult.
Really awesome guy and he's probably the best math teacher I've ever had. Gives a review packet that is so thorough right before the test that is basically the exam. Tests are kind of difficult and there is a fair amount of homework.
Nice guy and a good teacher but the tests are VERY difficult
Great guy, really combs through the topics and explains them really well with a real-world integration (no pun intended) of the topics. However, his exams are extremely tough. I spent hours studying, practicing, and receiving extra help in the Math Center, only to receive C's on both. Lenient homework policy, would recommend.
He goes very fast through the material and is hard to understand. Make sure you pay attention or you will miss something and be lost. His review sheets for tests are long and he gives homework every class. Do yourself a favor and do not take him.
Goes through content VERY quickly, sometimes too fast to keep up. Homework every night but worth 20% and only graded for completeness. Your worst test grade is worth only 10% which is a big help. Gives review packets that are generally the same difficulty as tests. Calc 3 is hard no matter who teaches it; he doesn't necessarily make it easier.
Pete is a great professor and an even better person. This man is truly there for his students, whether it is in office hours or after class. While his tests are hard (and I mean hard), he gives out a review packet that is vital to succeeding. Go to his office hours and he explains everything again if you ha difficult time in class. NOT AN EASY A
I have to say that Pete is the best math teacher I have ever had in my life. Works hard to get a 3.7 but math is my life. Even you are not that into math, Pete will make you understand everything if you ask him. Would take again and he is just the best. Super helpful and approachable.
He moved so fast through the calc 3 material, but it might just be the material in general that's difficult. You really need to make sure you do every single step exactly the way he wants it, and takes of so many points for simple mistakes. He's a great guy though and while I didn't do well in his class, it was probs just as much my fault as his
Professor Ciccarelli is awesome. His lessons prepare you excellently to be able to do the homework and his review sheets help you prepare for the tests. The tests are a little difficult, but that's to be expected with math.
Calc III is hard no matter what. Luckily theres homework every night graded for completion thats worth 20% and your worst test grade is only worth 10%, which helps out a lot. He doesnt really go through a lot of examples in class it mostly just theoretical notes so you kind of have to teach yourself the material while doing the homework.
Professor Pete was the best teacher I have ever had in any math class thus far. Take him for 233, you won't regret it.
The man is the king of terrible jokes. His soft voice will put you to sleep and he teaches off of a guide of answer keys. Doesn't really do much in terms of helping you out. Tests contain the most difficult content from his lecture... So yeah have fun teaching yourself this class.
The subject matter was really difficult but Pete made all the difference. He was always willing to help me out during office hours, work through problems, and answer questions. His review packets are very similar to the exams.
Professor Ciccarelli is a great guy. He does assign a lot of homework, but it helps prepare you for the tests and it's graded on completion which is an easy 20% of your grade. Tests are on the slightly difficult side, but if you do his review packet and paid some attention in class, then they are pretty easy.
Professor Ciccarelli is a great professor. Class was difficult but was extremely helpful when I went to office hours. Entire class is lecture, but he puts the notes on the screen and tells you what to write. Tests were fairly difficult but always included an extra credit question. I would definitely recommend going to office hours if you need help.
Pete is the best math teacher I have ever had. His lectures are interesting and clear. He uses lots of examples and visuals to help you understand. The homework is very long but it helps a lot with the test. His study guide is also long and hard but he gives a solution paper that helps. Tests aren't easy but they are doable if you put in the time.
Our Fearless Leader is truly a gem! Very clear with expectations and his lecture outlines and study guides are helpful and detailed. Content is obviously difficult, but he teaches it well. The exams and quizzes aren't bad at all, and he's always available for office hours to go over content. He's a lowkey funny guy, great dude overall.
Definitely a good professor to take! Detailed outlines of each class are super helpful! Unique grading criteria helps to absorb a bad grade on exam. Even though the content is difficult, our fearless leader makes it clear and understandable! Using his plenty office hours and wonderful review sheets, you will be fine! Extra credits for each exams!
One of the best professors I've had here at Bentley. He teaches concepts in class clearly. Although attendance isn't mandatory, missing class could mean falling behind on a lot of subject material since the classes are very high paced. Tests and quizzes are straightforward if you finish the review sheets he hands out in class.
Pete is literally THE BEST math teacher I have ever had in my life. He made all the difference. I thought it was going to be a really tough class but he is so organized and will walk you through the theory and then do examples in the board. Gives review sheets for exams, extra credit in every exam - reasonably challenging class. He really cares!
The average for the first test was a 70 (and an 82 for the other class) and the average for the second exam is expected to be between a D and a C. He is a very tough grader.
In terms of teaching he is probably the most qualified/ highest quality teacher for MA 139. If you want to learn more than in any other 139 class take him. If you want an easy A with minimal effort, go somewhere else. Amazing review packets. Hard exams, low test averages, and no curve. He is organized, and all his lessons are planned out perfectly.
His classes usually fill up instantly but take him if you can! If you enjoy math, you will love the class!
Professor Ciccaelli is amazing. Fantastic explanations and review sheets for each of the 3 exams. 2 quizzes and LOTS of homework which is graded based on completion. Not the easiest class and he covers a lot every day.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Pete is the BEST math professor I've had in my entire life. He explains concepts in such a clear and organized way and is always willing to answer any questions you might have. He's super funny and makes class engaging. Great guy. He makes math interesting and you learn A LOT. He is a tough grader though
Ciccarelli is a qualified professor for Calc, he knows the material well and teaches many higher-level maths. Because of this, he tends to go through material really quickly. His tests and quizzes are fair, but chunks of points are taken off for any mistakes you make, no matter how small. He posts comprehensive review sheets before exams.
I had Pete pre-COVID, and for math professors at Bentley, he's very good quality. He drops the weight of your worst exam 15% (ex: If exam #1 is your worst, it will drop from 25% to 10% total weight, if your final exam is your worst, it will drop from 35% weight to 20% weight). If you're looking to major in a mathematical field he's a good professor
I have always been a good math student but this math class was HARD. I recommend Ciccarelli because he is good with listening to students and explaining material but the class itself is very tough.
Professor Ciccarelli was a fantastic professor for MA 139. The tests are hard and he doesn't scale them, but he does give partial credit. If you go to office hours he will explain things until you understand him. MA 139 is HARD, that's just how it is. He was one of my favorite professors all semester, take him!
This is an extremely hard class that takes an immense amount of work. You have to spend your weekends practicing so you don't make small mistakes that the professor will deduct points from. The class is fast-paced but the professor will take time to explain if you are confused. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Good luck!
Professor Ciccarelli is the best mathematics professor I've ever had in my life, if you do your homework in time, participate in class, and put the necessary work in, you'll do completely fine. Take him, he explains calculus with such simplicity that you may think you're taking an algebra class. Best professor ever.
MA139 was literally the hardest class I've ever taken. I'm usually pretty good at math, but this class goes in such a fast pace with challenging material. Even if you do get a good grasp on the material, small mistakes will kill you in point deductions. Ciccarelli is not at all generous with the partial credit. Ex. You'll get 2/10 partial credit.
Pete was kind, approachable, organized, and great at explaining things. Now about the class: MA139 is HARD, but it's not Pete's fault. Exams aren't hard as much as they are tedious (ugly integrals), but he gives partial credit (generous if work is detailed). I was always terrified of math but I felt energized in this class, and should get B+ or A-
Easily one of the worst professors at the university. Took him and failed because of constant miscommunication in regards to his syllabus and academic policy. Do yourself a favor and take the class with another professor; you won't regret it!
Such a great professor, cares about his students. Very engaging lectures. You do need to study but if you put the work in you will be fine.
Even after attending all classes, office hours and seeing the math center tutors I chose to drop this class.
He grades things in a certain way that will get you the highest grade, although a lot of the class got a pretty low grade. He is a great professor and great guy once you go to office hours, but the tests are extremely hard. The homeworks are through Cengage and are nothing like the exams. The exams are chosen to be the hardest questions possible.
Lectures are perfectly planned and are honestly perfect with the note handouts. That said 139 is a weed-out class for people pursuing harder math classes here. If you do the study sheets and pay attention in class, you will do well. Overall great class & a great teacher.
He's nice but doesn't teach 139 well enough considering how hard he makes the tests. Goes way too far with the questions on the test mixing all the concepts and nobody does well. He'll put the class averages on the board then joke when its a 70 average. Class started with 32 kids and by the final there was 19 because of how many people do poorly.
Well planned lectures that he provides note templates. Class is hard but not impossible, you just have to practice practice practice. He's fast-paced, if you like math and work fast TAKE HIM
Pete is a good choice for 139. The tests are very similar to the reviews. However, because 139 is all about integrals, you need to get comfortable with the integrals to do good in the class. That shouldn't be an issue if you do all the homework on time and go to his OH for extra help. 139 itself is a hard class but Pete makes it doable. TAKE HIM!
Pete is a really good professor as long as you learn well by seeing. There are only a few quizzes and a few tests. He provides note templates to use during class and also review sheets with answers for the tests. He gives great feedback and his OHs should be utilized. Take him!
Pete is a great professor. He has a great teaching style and wants his students to succeed. Take him if you can.
Do not do what I did! Professor Ciccarelli is an amazing professor who wants you to succeed. He has fill-in-the-blank notes but there are videos you HAVE to watch before class or else you will fall behind. There is a lot of homework! The quizzes and tests are really hard so make you study with practice problems! Attend office hours!
The material is difficult and we move fast (which is normal for a hard math class) but Pete did not make it any easier. He lectures for the entire block so there is no time in class to do problems by ourselves. Homework and assessments are very difficult because we don't practice enough in class. He's a nice guy, but not the best professor.
Pete is a good professor, but he is very specific with what work he wants shown. The content is difficult to wrap your head around, but office hours are very beneficial. He does get to know his students and will help you, but you have to want it.
Good teacher, hard class. Nuff said.
Professor Ciccarelli is great. I found his class super easy, but some people struggled as I could see from the class average. He gives extra credit problems on every quiz/test and they are not that complicated. Takes very few points off for mistake if work is shown. Gives candy during tests so you can eat while doing it. Would recommend.
Good professor. Very nice and understanding. However, his tests are quite a bit harder than the other sections.
Pete is a great professor who wants students to succeed. The class is challenging, but Pete's well-planned lectures and practice help make it doable. I found unstuck study and the free textbook super useful for study prep.
The tests are too long, with multiple parts per question, impossible to finish in the time given. No Practice test for the final, only a long study guide made out of old review sheets. Lectures are just him writing stuff on the board, and you franticly copying it because he moves so fast. Has office hours and passes out candy during tests.
So so so understanding and caring. He will not let you leave office hours unless you completely understood the material. I was nervous coming into this class seeing that I had taken Calc I over a year ago but he makes sure that his students get caught up to speed wherever they are mathematically :)
Personally, I loved him, and did extremely well in his class. He definitely cares about his students and makes himself very accessible for help and answering questions. However, my class dropped from ~25 people to 9 of us by the end of the semester- the average grade on our first test was a 48 unweighted. Insane. be sure you're ready for calc.
Great professor and explains math concepts well! It was easy, homework has multiple tries not too much work. I really recommend getting an iPad for notetaking or you'll have to print out sheets. Do practice problems and ask questions you will do fine. Pete is a very caring dude
