Excellent teacher who genuinely cares about the success of his students. Tests are not easy but are fair. Creates an environment conducive to a free exchange of ideas. Makes you think about/reassess personal convictions. Very glad I took his class.
Easy teacher, study for the exam and you will pass. sometime it get so boring he kept on taking and taking. take him easy teacher.
Very easy
Take him he is easy. But he is boring he talks alot about nothing. i left class early everytime and got a B in his class. One assignment due for the entire semester. this class that doesnt require any or much work.
Ist half of the class was interesting, second was dreadful. Easiest class ever!
Easy class but sometimes a bit boring. Don't take summer or winter. He doesn't give breaks and he keeps you til the VERY end.
This is what a professor should be. He was so fascinating, inspiring, and loving that he made want to go to class. This is straight from my heart. He really cares about his students and their futures. He gives every opportunity to get an A in his class. Tons of extra credit. Take him.
HE IS A REALLY GREAT PROF. BE READY TO WRITE A LOT OF NOTES BUT IT'S WORTH IT, IT'S ALL ON THE TESTS. YOU REALLY DON'T NEED THE BOOK I GOT A "B" IN THE CLASS AND NEVER OPENED THE BOOK ONCE. HE IS AN INFORMATION GIVER THAT REALLY CARES ABOUT HIS STUDENTS. TAKE HIM!!!
nice guy, personable. semi-eady class, 1 writen assignment. 2 exams, not easy, grades you on partisipation,, and attendance.
He is the cools treach there is out there loves his students is very caring he is also very sweet so take him. His test are so easily I did not have to study that much. After your done with the class he will go and talk to you to see how your doing and out you have been up to.
Mr. Lopez is very passionate about this subject, and wants to ensure that before you leave his class you have both sides of what went down in history with the Mexicans/Chicanos, things you would not hear anywhere else. It was a real "eye opeaner". Thanks Mr. Lopez
Took him for winter, everyone talks about how difficult he is, but it's not true. I just took great notes, never read the book and passed the class with a A. The final was the easiest one I ever took. Great professor. Really passionate about what he talks.
Lopez is a nice and great teacher. Very happy that I took him, alot of writing, but well worth it. He is passionate about his teachings and you learn alot from this class. Take Lopez, you won't be dissappointed.
Very easy teacher, clear enough, you can get an easy "A", does not make class interesting, class lectures are very borring, if you take his class, buy yourself a pillow and take it to class with you.
every morning he shows us a tape and he laft from class.he was very borring.
Take LaCarra!!!
Very passionate about the subject. Most people think he is hard but if you take good notes ,use the study guide, and participate in lectures it can be an easy A.Two tests and 1 small paper due.He gives extra credit.I learned alot and it made me want to learn more.
yea, you are right, boring.

GOOD TEACHER...knows his stuff...easy if you take notes and like the subject...never got an "A" though, just B's...but English is my second language so that can be it. Exams are from the notes he gives you! Makes class very fun!
Awesome teacher....he is so clear and precise when teaching...he is super nice and likes to discuss issues one on one with students either during class or after....he knows what he does, he loves it and makes yuou love and appreciate the class and culture....i reccomend him for those who want to take chicano studies.....he even gives take home exams......i llok forward to take chicanos studies 44 with him too.
Professor Lopez is boring. The class is not difficult, but his lectures and videos put me to sleep. It was very hard for me to stay awake. My final grade was a "D".
long lectures saying nothing, not involved in the community. Talks the talk but doesn't walk the walk. Oh yeah get rid of those tired overheads that we can't read.
He is a wonderful teacher. You will learn a lot. Long lectures but interesting if you care about history or society! He is very nice. One test, a final research paper, and a final and you are done! He gives great study guides for tests..he is an awsome teacher. I learned so much. i am glad i took the class you wont regret it!
I enjoyed his class. He lectures & the notes needed are shown on the overhead. I don't know how people say it's soo boring or hard. If you want 2 learn something, he's the 1 to take. 1 midterm, 1 report on a place visited & a final. Test is all from the lectures notes. The study guide covers all that is on the test. Gosh, just memorize the thing.
I Love Mr. LopeZ!.He is the BEst TEAcHer Ever!He gives take home tests and a final...But their easy, just listen to Him during class and take good notes...awesome guy! <333
My personal opinion is that this guy is so clear that really all you need to do is study the notes and memorize the study guide he gives you. You'll get an A no problem. Its sad however that in my class out of 50 students 9 passed which i find amazing because u either have to no care or be a****not to pass with an A or B.
This guy is full of S#@T, he talk becuse he likes to hear himself talk. I never thought that i would be ashame of being chicano/a, but this guy made me think twice about who i am. I think a monkey could do his job and i would learn more.
uses old projector notes that haven't been updated in years, and will show videos that are from the 80s. the class has the potential to be interesting, but i really hated the class because of how boring he made it. he means well and is nice, but just not my cup of tea. only a midterm, a paper, and a final - not much room for screwing up.
Take LaCarra...

The MOST passionate professor in Chicano Studies....absolutely amazing!!!
he's a great teacher and fun to. he just talks to you.
AMAZING PROFESSOR!!! EXTREMELY HELPFUL, MOTIVATING, AND ENCOURAGING!!! KNOWS JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT CHICANO STUDIES!!!BEST PROFESSOR ON CAMPUS!!!!!
THE professor Im going to remember for the rest of my life. Very motivated to teach his students about Chicana/o history. Two tests, one paper. I learned so much with him and cant wait to take him again. Recommend him to all. Love the way he dresses and walks. Very motivational, and astute. A true Xicano. My fav. professor on campus.
Has your attention all the time. Definetely knows what hes talking about. Makes you feel proud of your roots. Hes one of the BEST!
take Dr. LaCarra, he's the real deal!!!!!!
yes, he rocks! not easy A, though!
Omg! This class bored me to death. 1 midterm 1 research paper 1 final. For honors: 2 critiques and 2 research papers. I think that it was too much work. Take LaCarra and make your life easier.
Great teacher!!! I learned so much about the subject and the world. Very nice, fun, enjoyable. He is friendly and wants you to learn. I learned so much, and use it on every day basis. His tests are easy. Ask questions and do a little bit of work. the class is powerful, and he tells you things that make you say WOW. If you are mature you wil
GREAT TEACHER AND VERY INTERESTING CLASS .. SOMETIMES IT WAS HARD TO PAY ATTENTION YOU MUST!. ITS GONNA HELP YOU GET THROUGH THE CLASS. IF YOU DO ITS A PIECE OF CAKE. I
exams are a little hard if you don't read the book
The most knowlegeable teacher in campus about chicano/a studies. He is a good counselor. I recommend him to every one. The only flip side is his overhead projector can be boring sometimes. Other than that he is the best qualified prof. You have to read and study to get a good grade. Highly recommend.
Awesome teacher, man, counselor etc... what a fun and enjoyable class. i learned so much. He will anwser anything and RESPECTS ALL OF HIS STUDENTS. Take him!!!SIGN-UP NOW... The class is fun. I couldn't wait to go to his class, because you learn so much. You are great prof. LOPEZ!!!!!!!
Great Professor !!! Has a wealth of information to share. Worth your time if you really want to learn Chicano history.
He was great, nice, and helpfull. nice to talk to. class isnt hard if you just attend and listen. in my class we had no test or finals just easy essays every week
Great Professor !!! He is passionate about what he does. Take him you won't regret it !!
PROS- He is funny. CONS- Mid term, Final and Term paper only. Gives you a million things to study so you better know everything. The highest grade on the mid term was a B-. I got C- thought i did really good on the final and still got a D. Only take this teacher if this is the only class you're taking.
Amazing professor, knows his stuff, makes the class intresting and fun. Easy to talk to and will help you with questions and problems. He makes the class so intrestiong i never missed a day. If you really want to learn something take his class.
amazing professor, knows his stuff very well. he is very friendly and will help you with your questions and problems. makes the class very very very intresting
If you wan to learn about the Chicanao experience in the United states take professor Lopez. Most educated professor in his field. Study his notes and book and you will get the best grade. Dont take Lacarra. He is teaching to push his own agenda about the Chicanao experience. Thats why Lacarra is in Subatical this year.
I also took him for 7 and 8. Mr. Lopez is definitely one of the best professors on campus. He really grabs your attention when it comes to the Chicano experience, and even applies experiences from his own life. Always willing to help you before or after class. I can safely say he'll be the professor I'll remember the most from LAVC.
lopez is such a nice person. he doesnt give too much work but you must study and know your stuff. there is one midterm, one paper and the finale is a take-home essay. he genuinely cares about his students and is willing to help. i recomend this class to anybody who would like to get some insight on the chicano community in the U.S
A great professor. Very knowledgable. Knows the material inside and out and is open to discussion and debate. He tends to get off topic slightly and is somewhat of a conspiracy buff but overall one of the best instructors at LAVC. I highly recommend his class! You will learn a lot.
He is very knowledgeable but goes off subject. he's is always sharing his opinion about everything. sometimes it gets annoying, feels like i'm watching a close-minded conspiracy documentary. Overall he does a good job filling in the gaps left by your traditional history class.
I dont know what people are talking about, great professor? easy? ya right, his midterms are horrible, boring class, not recommended at all......
Not an easy class, but if you pay attention and go to class everyday he will see that you are trying and he will for sure pass you, he is a very good man and never strict...i never saw the angry side of him, very good person and professor...highly recommended!
Read his books or get a C. Study Study Study. He knows his stuff, but during grading time, he only have 2 tests and an essay. Worst thing I've ever seen!!! BUT GREAT TEACHER nontheless. You have to be self motivated in his class and not lack off. He needs to help students on grades by not reling on testing!!!!
Take Dr. LaCarra! Lopez is narrow minded and thinks everything revolves around "LA RAZA" Cant see beyond the glass! Chicano Studies is dying! Get a clue! There are more ethnicities out there and its not the 1960's in East LA anymore Lopez! Wake Up!!
DR. LACARRA IS WRITING A BOOK ON SUR-13 AND IS SERVING AS AN EXPERT WITNESS IN "HIGH PROFILE" CASES THAT ARE CLASSIFIED! HE IS A GANG EXPERT AND IS HELPING THE RAZA IN WAYS THAT HAVE MORE IMPACT THAN MAKING CARNE ASADA AND BASHING ANYONE THATS NOT CHUNTI!
Omg i highly recommend this professor ! i took his class for summer session and i got a B! super chill class and great professor. Hes so smart and his tests are not hard at all you gotta be really lame if u get a c or f!
Very passionate about Chicano Studies. He knows his stuff. You WILL learn a lot in his class. BUT he's not very clear on assignments. Makes changes to them when due date is near by. Tests are easy IF you take good notes & do the reading. Assignments are midterm, 1 essay, & final. So there isn't room to slack off. But does give out extra credit.
Dr. LaCarra is a better teacher I toook him and he has more degrees including the PhD. Degree! LaCarra will motivate you to get a PhD also and is writing books that help the RAZA! Dr. Robert LaCarra will be back next year and is writing a book. He is the greatest professor at Valley who has been discriminated against.
He was a great teacher, i learned a lot in his class. Can be boring at times but he really trys to get the class to participate. He shows interesting videos and the class assignments are a piece of cake.
DR. LACARRA is the best teacher at VALLEY for Chicano Studies. The Department will not be the same unless he comes back. THE quality of Chicano Instructors at the moment is MEDIOCRE at best. LACARRA WAS CHICANO STUDIES AT VALLEY there is no one else! They should name the foreign language building after him. Todo Respeto!
Lopez SUCKS! Can't teach and is bias against anyone who is not chicano! TAKE Dr. LACARRA! he is compassionate and loves the students no matter who they are! Dr. LaCarra is the best Chicano Studies professor at LAVC!!!!!!
Prof. Lopez is an awesome teacher. Might be boring sometimes but overall he knows his subject very well. Take good notes and you will be able to get an A in this class. Gives out some EC but the 2 tests and the quiz are not the easiest ones. Very nice and helpful as well as approachable. Loves pretty women :)
Good Professor!!!
Prof Lopez is a great instructor. He was always there on time ready to teach. Always wore a suit & tie. His lectures are based on over-head slides. Take those notes & buy the books. The tests & quizzes are based on the book. Take this class. You just have to be there in class and study for his tests!!!
Professor Lopez is a very great teacher. Very knowledgable about Chicano History and very kind to his students. If you can't manage an A, you're slacking (A LOT). He encourages discussion of the material. Only complaint is that he can be too nice. Students take advantage and start talking while he's talking. Not cool.
Just the best. Very helpful, care about the students, answer all kind of questions, always nice!!!
A very nice prod who is really enthusiastic about what he teaches but tends to ramble on about one subject in each chapter and skips a lot of other information. Relied on his lectured for the midterm failed...Ignored his lectures and read for the final and i passed. At the end of semester ended up with a C.
Dr. Roberto Lacarra PHD is the most intelligent professor of Chicano Studies At Valley College. Take Dr. Lacarra you'll be glad you did! You will get an A!!
Not an easy class. He is very enthusiastic about what he teaches he teaches from beginning to end. is usually 5-10 minutes late. Must read book, research paper due at the end of the course.
Great professor, very helpful, cares about his students. Tests are based on his notes and lectures so a voice recorder will be very useful. Very smart and knowledgeable professor.
One of the best professors at LAVC . He is very clear of what he expects. Only 1 midterm, 1 final and a project due at the end of semester. Highly recommended.
Very nice professor, very helpful. He really cares about his students. Just follow his study guides that he hand out and you should be OK
Very nice professor, tests are based on lectures, extremely helpful, he gives study guide before the test, take him
Not very good at teaching. Is narrow minded and thinks everything revolves around the chicano movement. Doesn't understand chicano radicalism and nationalism is long gone. limited intellectually. Take Dr. LACARRA!!! PhD.
He seriously knows the subject he's lecturing, so if you take very good notes, the midterm and final should be a breeze. Extremely helpful and very approachable. Definitely would recommend him :)
Professor Lopez Was A Really Good Professor. Makes You Take A Field Trip To A Museum. Really Explains How Important The Chicano Movement Was To Us And Our City. Made It Applicable To Current Society. Interesting Class You Get What You Earn!
Just the BEST, take him if you want to learn and get a good grade.
BEST professor at Valley.Goes over everything that's going to be on the during lectures. Take good notes, don't miss a class, and you'll be OK.
This class is nothing but boring, he goes in front of the class and talks nonstop. He is so unclear on what he wants for you to study on the exams. Honestly chicano with him is a horrible idea. Does not recommend him!
Great professor! He is funny and very clear with his lectures. He explains everything well and there is no homework. He gives a handout which is very clear on what you need to study for the midterm and final. GREAT CLASS
This professor was great. Many people signed for this class because another person was scheduled to teach it. Well I'm glad he took over. The other guy is known for handing out As. With Lopez you have to earn It. Shocking isn't it? If you want to learn take him if you just want to get a grade take the other guy. Good luck!!!
I can miss any class but not this one, I love his class.
If you want to learn something you should take this class with prof. Lopez. He is very smart, intelligent and knowledgeable. Tests are multiple choice only and are mainly based on his lectures.
Professor Lopez is the professor you MUST take for chicano studies. He is very informative, yet is very interesting and fun. He is very caring and that's what is most important I would say. I would record his lectures and listen to them before the exams. Study and take notes and you'll do great. There are two exams and one project (very fun). TAKE!
Love this Professor, the way he teaches is very informative and gets into it, never knew this wonderful information that I share with everyone.
I didn't know about where the Dodgers Stadium was built on top of what, now I do, thank you Mr. Lopez for a wonderful class, I learn so much from you.
He has a good sense of humor, explains everything very clear, and is very knowledgeable about Mexican and Mexican American history.
BEST CHICANO STUDIES TEACHER EVER,DEFINITELY TAKING HIM FOR 8!
Great professor. He makes sure to talk about the readings in class so everyone could understand it. As long as you keep doing the readings, you shouldn't have trouble in the midterm and final. TIP: He really likes class participation so the more you express your opinion, the easier and more flexible the class is going to be.
I took both Ch7 and Ch8 with him. He is a very smart man, cares about the students, and he just loves teaching. Make sure you show up to classes and participate. One midterm and one final, he also offers extra credit. THE BEST!!! WE LOVE YOU
Mr.Lopez, is a great teacher, he makes the subject understandable and interesting. Definitely going to be taking his Chicano 8 class in the Spring! Thank you Pete!
he's a good professor but you NEED to pay attention in class, his tests are more based on his lectures than the books.
a very good teacher overall, very clear. helps you when you ask for it. overall rate is 3.9/5
Midterm Final and a museum trip+ 5 page reflection. He covers lot of information and shows films that relate to the subject. The study guids cover lot of info.
He's a great professor. The only thing is that he only has a Midterm, a final, and a final written paper so do great on your test and you'll pass. Whats not in the lecture will be in the book.
I took him in the Winter 2015 semester, overall great professor , makes it interesting but very hard to comprehend because of many decades and events. only thing is make sure you pay attention to his LECTURES. 1 midterm,1 finals and final part to visit a local museum based on th concepts we've learned . study, read and ask questions . yes for lopez
very nice teacher, but man! it's very difficult to keep with him. You have to be your toes with the Lectures or else you will get lost.
Professor Lopez is very helpful and does his best clarify any misunderstandings in his lectures. The class was interesting overall. The exams are sort of difficult, but he does give out a review sheet. The essays are where you should try your best to earn points.
Do not take this professor. His teaching is very much opinion based. He'll spend the whole class blabbing about what he feels and asking people for their thoughts. He keeps you in till the very last second. Most of the time I didn't know if he was stating random fun facts or material I needed to know. Tests not based on book, based on lecture. BAD
spends 5 minutes going over midterm reviews and 50 minutes talking about his feelings.
He says "we" a lot when he is referring to hispanics. Not everyone in the class is hispanic.... It was so rude.
He keeps you in till the very last second even if he has nothing else to say. He'll ramble about random things and that really confused me. As it is, there is a lot of information to digest in this class without him complicating our lives.
Avoid this man at all costs. I fell asleep almost every class. Hard tests too! Not an easy class at all. Really boring.
I took his class as a high school student during the summer session. His lectures and class overall were very interesting. He's very knowledgable so class discussions are great. He says you should buy the book, I did, never used it and still got an A.
I think he is very clear an d a good teacher. Very understanding of history and current events. Test are tough but if you read and come to class you will pass. Really good teacher.
So when I signed up for this class, I didn't know who my professor would be since it said "Staff". About two days before class was supposed to begin, I found out it was this professor. I read his reviews and they were bad. I WAS SO SCARED TO TAKE HIS CLASS!! But honestly, it's not that bad. Im currently in his class and he's great! Easy notes!
A passion for history, a respect for culture, and a drive to teach his students all he can in one semester sums up Lopez. Chicano 8 gave me a new perspective and deeper appreciation for the Mexican American, and would recommend his class to anyone who shares the above qualities. Extra credit is essential to raise your score a full grade, do it!
As long as you put the effort he will pass you, yeah his test are tough but even if you fail them he will pass you with at least a B, that's if you do the work and show effort. In the end you'll walk out with so much knowledge!
I was told Prof Lopez was an easy A. Which is probably true, if you go to every class. Personally I think his lectures are long and all over the place but he knows his stuff and is very passionate. He gives study guides but more than half the class failed the midterm. Directions for the research paper are limited. Take class at own risk.
Professor Lopez is a great instructor. You need to go to class and listen to the lecture. Taking good notes is key to success in this class. If you want an A you should also be sure to do at least most of the reading. It was a great class, and I learned quite a bit from professor Lopez.
IT isn't clear if he's lecturing or giving fun facts. Study guide helps but some questions weren't on lecture. For the final, he didn't finish the chapters so he made us watch the documentaries! How did he forget Cesar Chavez!? 5 page is easy just write about your experience but i recommend another teacher .most class failed I was lucky i passed
He is really nice. He can give you any help you want if you ask for it.
Professor Lopez is an extremely nice person and very friendly, and he will definitely help when asked. His class, however was difficult to navigate. He gave a study guide, but it was not particularly helpful. The tests hardly had anything to do with the books at all. Also, we only had two exams, so it is important to make them count.
Enjoyable class
He makes the class very intersting and takes in count participation. Lectures are really heavy but he explains them clearly. You won't get bored. He cares about he's students and will always try to help you
He's a passionate lecturer and an incredible human being.
Hes a really good professor , I definitely learned a lot about my culture and my community.
MUST TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. he really teaches you a lot about your culture. He never gives out homework. Only 1 midterm and 1 final. Offers EC all the time.
Professor Lopez is one of the best teachers at Valley. There is one research project and two tests. I definetly reccomend this professor.
By far one of the best professors to take for this subject. you can tell he is passionate about what he teaches and cares about you doing well. He is always in his office hours and is willing to talk.
DON'T DO HONORS. This is the hardest honors course you will take at LAVC. TWO research papers, TWO take-home essays, and TWO other analyses. Extremely tough grader; cite EVERYTHING. Normal class (non-honors) is pretty easy though; consists of midterm, final, and one mandatory field/museum report. Chicano 7 is easier than Chic 08 (took him for both)
Professor Lopez gives heavy lectures along with some documentary home videos so it will hard hour to say awake. Lopez will only grade the Mid-Term, the Final, and a Museum Project Report. Attendance is necessary because class notes can later be used during Mid-Term and the Final. Books are NOT required.
The best professor I've had, his lectures are really interesting.
Professor Lopez is a extraordinary Professor he give out extra credit
He asked to buy the textbook, but we didn't use it. If you take notes he lets you use them on the test, along with a study guide he gives you. The test are kind of difficult. He does require a museum visit along with a paper. Overall he's a good professor.
He is an amazing professor. I learned a lot. There is a midterm and a final and both are open notes plus he gives you a "study guide". One field research paper is due the week before the final. He was amazing. Very smart and caring man.
hes a really easy professor. for chicano 002, all you do is read a chapter each week and turn in questions. there is no final. you need to show up to pass the class. the only downfall on him is that he talks way too much, sometimes it doesn't even have anything to do with the topic of discussion.
Ok so I really liked this class like so much. Especially if ur a latino student. But the only thing he ruined the whole class was the way he teaches. Like yeah, some of the stuff that he would teach us was really inspriational or whatever but he would just make the class really boring
I didnt like this professor. Every day he only talked for the whole period of time yet I feel like I wasnt gaining any real knowledge about chicanos. We didnt get any assignments we literally only did 5 essays. So its kind of hard to even get a good grade since theres not a lot of assignments. Im a REAL student here and I say dont take him
Im currently taking this class for Summer 18, and I already dread coming each day. He elaborate more on pictures than the actual facts, which makes it unclear as to what will be on exams. This class is so boring, it is hard for me to stay awake. I am more aware during my 8 AM class than this class at 11 AM. Want to be bored? Take this class.
Professor Lopez is very passionate about his subject. He wants us as Latinos to learn about our past, our culture. They only have this Mexican Civ. class at this community college, so take him if you can. Though I'm not Chicana, I'd like to take his other Chicano classes because he got me interested in the subject. He's funny and awesome.
I hated history class but ever since I took his chicanos 8 class I fell in love with history. Hes a good professor who cares about all of his students. Gives tons of extra credit and a study guide to make our lives easier. I will miss his class. Best part no book required. Take him if you want an easy A!
He's so monotone which makes it so difficult to pay attention to him. His midterm was easy for me since I found most of the answers in HIS study guide and notes, BUT ended up getting a terrible grade on it. Others also didn't pass it. He grades you only on a midterm, one paper and a final. Avoid this class. Makes me want to rip my hair out.
He is so disorganized with his notes on the board. He writes notes on one side then moves to the other and goes back to the original side. Notes do not make sense. Does not know how to word his questions on his tests. DO NOT take this class. Avoid it at all costs.
The lectures was interesting to me. You must take all notes that professor gives or pot on the screen to be prepared to the exams. Open notes midterms and final. Hi give you a handout for each exams. BUT!! Questions are very mixed and confusing. Even though if you practice a lot and have all your notes it's still very hard to get all answers.
In terms of the engagement in the class, there is little to none. This made it difficult to pay attention as it was also unclear as to what material was important or what will be on the exams. Thankfully, he gives out study guides that has A LOT of the answers on the exams. Be ready for off topic rambling and monotonous lectures. No book necessary.
Very sweet professor, but not very great at lecturing. He quickly switches subjects and you can easily get lost. It's only one midterm, 1 paper, and a final. The class was not very engaging, and I definitely fell asleep a few times.
I took Professor Lopez for the summer! At first I thought his class would be intense because it was a 5 weeks ,but honestly his class was a piece of cake. His lectures are pretty clear, he gives you 2 extra credits, a midterm and final exam which is open book and a museum trip. His class is fun and very easy. Take him!
Took a 5-week summer course, and just taking this class for me GE's. His lectures was inspirational because he loves what he talks about. The class can share opinions respectfully. had to write 3 papers; midterm, final, and research paper. Didn't receive them back before the semester ended, but i felt good about my writing and got the grade.
Best professor EVER, This the second time taking his class, I will be taking his class 3 more times. My Major is Criminal Justice, But after being in his class for the first time, i decided i would go for my Associates in Chicano Studies Also. I highly recommend him to you all. Hes very caring and is always ready to help.
Professor very passionate about the subject, but he's grading just terrible. Mid-term and final were based on answering 2 questions in essay format, wasn't specific on the length nor how examples did he wanted. When asked about midterm he literally said, it's up to you guys. Everyone got C's regardless of effort put into it. Take on your OWN risk!!
Amazing professor and would highly recommend. Book is required because our only homework came from the book. Great and inspirational class to take but you have to really work for it to get a good grade. Show up for notes. He loves what he does and cares about his students. A must take if you want to learn more about your culture or for credits.
He is the best professor at LAVC!
Horrible professor who uses feelings over logic, and "personal experiences" over facts. Sad to see how lost he is in his ways and beliefs. The most closed minded professor I've ever had, and doesn't realize times have changed.
Professor Lopez cares about his students and wants them to succeed. He is passionate about Chicano Studies and has a wealth of knowledge. I took him for Chicano 007 and Chicano 008, will be looking to retake him in the future.
I don't know what the whole point is for chicano classes to be honest, but with this professor. He's okay. He is better than Jose Arrieta. Get ready to watch a bunch of videos and midterm essays. I wouldn't take this class again even if i was trying to major in this subject.
This class was amazing, the lectures weren't mandatory but he would like people to attend. His lecture is inspirational as he connects them with the assignments he assigns. The workload isn't heavy at all or you would be trying tbh. He is very caring and tries to give feedback when he can.
Prof. Lopez's online class was very unorganized. Although it was an a-synch class he still held zooms which were inaccessible if you couldn't make the date. His test questions made no sense and he offered then retracted extra credit even when multiple students came forward with their concerns and struggles with the course. would not take again.
Professor Lopez's asynchronous class is an easy A. Weekly assignments consist of lecture content and a 300-word written reflection. The mid-term & final are in essay format. Provides excellent feedback on assignments and promotes Zoom office hours. Recommended for anyone needing Chicano 002.
Most understanding/lenient prof. Only 1 discussion per week min 200 words. I would take max 30 min. plus watching 1 hour long videos total 1.5 hours per week spent on hw. Super easy grader. Held Zoom if anyone had any questions but wasn't mandatory. Midterm/Final were easy enough. He accepted late work with little penalty. would reccomend
Great!
Second time with Prof. Lopez. Honestly its a good asynchronous class. its hard to not pass. i would take again
It was a good five week class, one assignment a week it was pretty easy.
very cool professor would take again
He's hard to contact outside of class, I took his Chicano 002 class, if you fall behind he may be nice enough to assign an incomplete, like he did with me, but that's pretty much it. He didn't even reopen the Canavas shell, so that I could make up the work I fell behind on,
The class was a mixed bag - some found it engaging, others felt it lacked objectivity. Attendance is mandatory, but the workload is manageable. unstuck AI proved helpful for study prep alongside the textbook.
The workload was very manageable. One assignment every 2 weeks plus one midterm essay and final essay for 16 weeks. The assignments are just 200 word personal reflections and should not take that long. While the assignments do not require the textbook, the midterm and final do.
Most best professor! He always strived success for his students and always provides any advice and support. He truly is amazing, he rounded my 88% to an A. He's super knowledgable and chill, and as long as you do your work you will pass! 11/10 recommend
One homework assignment every week. You have to write a personal introspection about video's he posts. For the midterm and the final you need the actual book.
I took his eight week online course. There's one assignment due per week, plus a midterm and a final. The class is an easy A in my opinion, but I still learned a lot. The only thing keeping me from giving him 5/5 is that the exams had a lot of technical errors, but this shouldn't really be a problem as long as you do all the assignments.
I took him for 054 and 008. Best Chicano teacher.
