This was one of the most borning classes I have ever take. Morris is a nice guy, but is an aweful teacher. All he does is lecture with slides and doesn't have much time for questions during class.
Dry material but super nice teacher. He is very helpful & his field trip is the bomb. makes you care about things like buildings, and the rest of the dry dry dry course content.
seems like a nice guy but the class is boring but easy. people take his class to fullfill their requirments for transfer. some of the material is interesting but again its just an average class.not fun not too boring.
not a bad class to fullfill your requirments in.
pretty nice guy but he goes on and on without any stopping in between. youll pass if you just use all the helpful material on his site and study.
This class was boring, but I think if you study his notes you will do fine.
This class is very boring, hard and not engaging. The class consist of sitting at a table and copying from a Power Point slide. Prof. Morris is a nice guy but I wouldn't recommend him for this class.
This man has knowledge!!! You really learn a lot from him and if you do not as good as you wanted on an exam, you can do extra-credit. Class can be boring but nobody has to stay focused all the time.
The instruction is very thorough, although I feel it could be better if Pete engaged the class from the front vs. among us while contolling the powerpoints. Ask questions and engage him to discuss topics because he usually will not. HW is useful for exams

this man makes me want to scream every tuesday and thursday. never in my life have i had to sit thru such a boring class. expect to copy from the powerpoint and dose off. he goes on and makes u not care. u can tell he loves this but his presentation sucks
He is down to earth kind of guy, i would take this class if you want you GPA to rise because you can pass this class if you follow the guide and do the assignments. He is the kind of guy who likes long long walks on the beach by the way he keeps talking
His teaching style is nothing i have ever ecountered. He just uses Power Point Slides with concise notes on it, which covers EVERYTHING in the exam. Just take down notes in his class and review it, you don't need to read the book if you do this. He is a good teacher, but the class can get mad boring
he is tough on grading, and extremely boring.
Interesting subject, boring teacher. One day, his laptop broke and he had to stand in front of the class and lecture - he was actually pretty interesting. But then the laptop got fixed and it was back to boring class sessions again.
He is a nice teacher at SMC!!Even I still poor at English,he makes time for me to teach after the class. If you do your homework, and attend the class;futhermore,on time,I believe that he won't drop you.You must read his power points papers!!
Good professor, but class can be a bit boring. I chose this class because of his lenient grading style. There are 3 exams, with the worst only counting for 10 percent of your grade, and 30 and 20 for the best and in between. 40 percent of the grade is based on homework and attendance. Not so hard.
Zzzzzzzzzz...I really wanted to like this class but I use one word to describe the experience "painstaking". I got a B but it was the most I'd ever been bored. He's nice but has horrible teaching tactics. When/if he ever stands in front to talk it is engaging, otherwise, not. Sorry, Pete.
Please, don't take him!!! HE IS SO BAD AND BORING! WHO ALLOWED THIS GUY TO TEACH!!!!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I WAS NEVER THIS BORED IN MY LIVE!!!!
very easy class, but the most BORING CLASS EVER. Like, wow, this class is extremely boring. Shockingly boring. I didn't think it was possible for a class/teacher to be this boring.
Nice guy, but the workload for this class is just too much. Online discussions every week, which amount to writing long essays on monstrous amounts of readings. Extra essay assignments, very toughly graded. Over-complicated, pseudo-intellectual exams - this is not an easy class. Super boring. Yeech.
SAY WHAT? I FELL A SLEEP AGAIN DURING CLASS??????? I WONDER WHY? I KNOW WHY, THIS GUY DEFINES BORING. IF YOU LOOK IN THE DIC. AND LOOK UP THE WORD BORING, YOU WILL PROBABLY SEE HIS FACE. GOD! JUST 6 DAYS OF CLASS LEFT, AND I FELL ASLEEP ALMOST EVERY CLASS. THE TEST DAYS ARE THE BEST, BECAUSE HE SHUTS UP. I WISH EVERYDAY WAS A TEST DAY.
Great subject, great guy, but unfortunately... the class is very hard to sit through - and therefore very hard to take the masses of information in! Would be good as an online class or summer/winter session.
I totally agree with the person below!! This guy must have won his degree in the lottery!! How can one single person talk so much nonsense?!?! He is trying to sound so smart. Everyone in this class hates him. HE IS SO BORING!!!! AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I don't know how I survived this class!!!!!! DON'T TAKE HIM!!! WORST TEACHER EVER!!!!
Excellent teacher for an esoteric subject. All aspects of the class require critical thinking skills that allot of you who were bored don't have yet. If you want to actually learn and prepare for upper level college courses this Professor is you're guy- in the future he's going to be an excellent grad school Professor plus he loves the subject.
PLEASE EVERYONE DO NOT TAKE HIM!! YOU WILL FALL ASLEEP AFTER 2 MIN. I DON'T KNOW HOW I SURVIVED THIS CLASS.THIS GUY WANTS TO SOUND SO SMART BUT HE JUST MAKES A TOTAL IDIOT OF HIMSELF. HIS EXAMS ARE JUST CRAZY AND YOU CAN'T STUDY FOR THEM! HE MAKES YOU READ A STUPID BOOK CALLED THE ENDS OF THE EARTH. REPEAT: DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
He's a nice guy but his class consists 99% of long boring powerpoint lectures. He doesn't give too much homework and there is a field trip to Downtown, L.A. which is interesting. Take this class only if you are really interested in urban geography, otherwise, don't make the same mistake I did and take it just because it is an IGETC.
first day and i already fell asleep! lol oh well oh and by the way the room was frezzing!
guys!!!!! pleaseeee!!! listen to me!!!! pleaseee dont take this class... I know the teacher is a nice and helpful, but the class is very very VERY hard. Its very hard to get even a B, there are lots of writing and the way this professor teaches is soooo boring, he just talks to himself while nobody listens to him, and there are crazy tests.
It's true his lectures aren't super exciting, but he is *really* nice and knowledgeable; do take if you would enjoy learning a lot, but don't take if you just want to fulfill IGETC. And no matter what the ratings indicate, he is MUCH better than Selby.
take this class if you like to hear someone talk to a screen, this guy is just good at running power piont, or take him if you are in college and still need nap time
Tough class you must study all the readings....he also has a unique lecture style and you must pay attention, but if you do you'll pick up much..will answer your questions.....go on field trip its great.
True, his lectures can get very boring...but he is EXTREMELY nice and helpful. I had some personal circumstances during the semester so I had numerous absences, but he helped me out a LOT and allowed me to make up the missed work/exam. I got a C in his class...but he offers extra credit and if you do the reading and take GOOD notes, you'll be set.
I highly recommend this professor. It really matters to him that you understand and he is very patient. I thought his lectures were excellent - he always left me wanting to hear more.
Okay... Pete Morris is a very smart, educated professor.... but...he does not present his lectures/share his knowledge in a way for most students to understand and remember.everyone in class was having difficulty with exams.homework is mild, but the exams are killer. even if youve studied back and forth, you will still be confused. This is ur warning
YES, THIS IS YOUR WARNING... UNLESS U ARE WILLING TO WORK MANY HOURS FOR A DECENT GRADE..STAY AWAY. DONT BE FOOLED BY THE SMILEY FACE..I WAS VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS SUBJECT, AND LEFT THIS CLASS WITH NOTHING. I WISH HE WOULD HAVE AT LEAST POSTED THE NOTES ONLINE IN THE BEGINING...THEN I WOULD HAVE HAD A GOOD SENSE OF WHAT HE WAS TALKING ABOUT!!
okay, this guy knows his stuff! He loves sharing his experieces in order 2 make geog more interesting. His lectures can B a bit dry but on the whole he's very fair. 2 tests: midterm & final. 3 online essays which R no biggy if u come 2 class & listen to the lecture. FAIR GRADER!!! gives a book 2 read with some Q's on the side but all okay reading!
This teacher is really nice, but he is sooooo boooring. I barely studied at all, and i got a B. But trust me when i say he is boring, he is boooooring. I used to sleep during his classes. If your not a geo major take him for and easy grade. At least ull get a B if u not that comitted.
Prof. Morris is one of the best Professors SMC has to offer. He is the smartest person I ever encountered so far: There is no question/topic the he cannot answer/discuss. Seriously! Just try! His lectures are interested and it’s fun to seat in his class. Highly recommended!
its hard not to like this guy. hes just really approachable and kind. hes is extremely intellegent and wants you to be too so expect to do a lot of work. his class was one of the most rewarding ive had so far. im not sure why hes at s.m.c. when he should be at yale or harvard. a truly superior instructor with a brilliant mind. absolutely 5 stars.
Very interesting classes and very intelligent teacher. Expects a little from his students, but not very difficult.
Morris is a great professor. He is very knowledgeable but this class is a straight snoozer. Too many PowerPoint Slides. I think he can make this class way more interesting if he got students involved. It’s like your watching a long boring movie. It is almost mandatory that you participate in online discussion boards. I am looking forward to hi
I have trouble understanding some of the poor ratings that Pete receives, apparently they are new to post-secondary education. Pete is organized and very interested in the subject. I also took Urban8 from him. His lectures can be a bit dry as he does them all with Powerpoint, but he also makes them available online. Be involved, do the homework.
I really am surprised that his rating is not lower. Professor Morris is a very nice man, but he is painfully boring. You will feel like you're at the dentist for 90 minutes. For a good student the class is an easy B. You could never attend one class and do well as long as you study the unit 'keywords' and the maps a few days before the exams.
Excellent instructor. I highly recommend this class - the professor is brilliant. He made me love a class I'd initially dreaded taking. Great class, great teacher. You will learn a lot and love doing it.
Prof Morris is a great teacher. He truly loves his subjects and his students. He's always there to help and he really does make things extremely clear. That said, the class can be a little boring at times and you do need to know your material. You can't just breeze by without studying. As long as you study and keep yourself interacting, its fine.
If geography isn't your thing, his lectures will come off as boring. Morris is super nice and very helpful though, so ask him for help if you need it. Fairly easy class, although you do need to study/read and work hard to get an A or B. This is a pretty interesting class too. Take it!
he is SOOOOOOOOO boring.. he kills the class with his boring lectures.. his class is easy for the first half.. an then he just makes it hard for the 2nd half. He is very unorganised. He uses eCompanion alot and its every week hwk. get 4 big assignments over the semester. his test are very very hard. Hard grader. DONT TAKE HIM unless ur a geo major
Professor Morris is a great instructor, not only because he has the themes really clear, but because he is passioned about geography and urban studies. I am an int.stud. and even though was difficult to understand him, I learned a lot!
This class is SOOOOOO BORING!His lectures are SOOOO LONG AND DRAWN OUT.The reading material is really difficult to understand.Do all the work, keep up with the reading, sorry the tests are hard.A lot of work.Very nice teacher.Looking for an easy ride take something else because he tells you from the beginning that the class is not an easy A.
very interesting class if you like geography, the human impact, etc.I really like the way professor morris teach. hard lectures and exams so you will need to study a little bit. It's worth it.
This professor is good; take him. His only flaws are that he fails to interact much with the students (he even avoids eye contact), and some of his sources I thought questionable because they came from Wikipedia. Tests are easy except you need to know keyword definitions well to get an A. His lectures consist of powerpoints which he posts online.
Has slideshows that you can print ahead of time. REALLY boring. Not helpful. Is always late. Don't take this class.
class is composed of: midterm and final, online homework, participation, and a few extra credits. the lecture causes you to become drowsy so come to class with either a good nights sleep or coffee.
Class can be a bit dry but the information is very interesting. Prof. Morris is a really nice guy and very approachable. He teaches with powerpoint and the only 2 exams (midterm and final) are VERY lecture intensive. I would not suggest this class for someone who doesn't take good notes. Not a very participatory class and no extra credit.
So boring, I dropped. Not the most exciting teacher. You just listen to him speak the whole time. No class interaction.
I am still in this class, about to take the midterm. I love this teacher & his lectures, but I am the type who likes to read for hours on end & watch documentaries. Averring that he is boring is only an opinion. The class is not easy but that makes more edifying. Check out his website & assigned reading for an idea of his teaching style.
If you can stay awake through his lectures, and find the material interesting, this class if for you. All you do is listen to his talk, talk, talk, and stare at his power point notes. Homework assignments are a cinch, however, it takes him about two months to grade them, so you'll never really know how well you're doing. Mid-term/final: study hard!
He is a very nice guy, open to opinions and extremely helpful. He is willing to work with you and the work in his class isn't hard. With that being said, his lectures are rather dry and it can get a little slow. Drink coffee before class and the lectures will all of a sudden seam a little more interesting. I would recommend his class to my friends.
This is the most boring class I have taken in college. Poor guy does try to make class interesting, but there is no class interaction. His lectures put you to sleep. I'm still enrolled, but I would not recommend this class if you lose interest easily. I lost it the second week of class
Love Morris!!! He's suppper nice. Yes, he can get pretty boring, but he's super nice. But, just because this professor is nice does not mean the work you turn in should be half-assed!!!!!! Reallly do the work!!! He's a hard grader!!! If u like to read alot, i suggest take this class!!!! I had fun!!!!!
Prof. Morris is extremely knowledgeable and roots for your success. The reading is awesome; I loved the books he chose. You must study a lot as the exams are difficult, but go to office hours for clarification. He provides power point slides for home reference and there are fun extra credit options to boost your grade.
Professor Morris is incredibly knowledgeable! He is very nice and very helpful. Make sure you get involved in the class, ask questions and immerse yourself in the class. His lectures can be very dry and slow but you will LEARN A TON. Just stay involved and raise your hand to stimulate some discussion. He cares about his students and wants you to do
pretty interesting guy, he loves beer and soccer. i find this topic very interesting, but i still worked very hard to get an A. there are 7 map quizzes (pin pointing places on a map), 2 exams (midterm and final), paper and "participation". try to raise your hand and pretend to be interested, it'll help you in the long run
Interesting class but didn't like the way he teaches. WAY too much info that you don't need for the class. Got really bored most of the time. He does gives lots of extra credit assignments which are useful. The worst part is the Wallach book. ITS THE WORST BOOK EVER! Never gets to the point- Its not a textbook more like a HUGE novel with facts
Boring. Boring. Boring lectures. But fascinating guy with lots of knowledge and interesting tidbits about life around the world. If you NEED this class, take it... If you don't - steer clear. You will likely be fighting sleep in the class, because the lectures are that boring - and if you don't take good notes, you will fail. Fair warning.
Really nice professor, very passionate about his subject and extremely knowledgeable. Some people don't like the powerpoint slide format, but he is a good lecturer. Homework is easy, and tests are fair, but a lot of information is covered.
Honestly, there's no reason to take this class unless you're really interested in global studies. His lectures are extremely boring; all he does is talk! Seriously, this guy loves to hear his own voice. The whole class is based on power points in which he spends 20 minutes on each slide, and there's barely any class discussion. PS, he loves soccer.
Geography 11 scholars He is extremely passionate and very liberal. his lectures are dry and he never makes eye contact with students. The material is not too difficult, just not easy. online component to class to answer rvw questions. Many map quizzes. got a 98%.
Nice guy but incredibly boring. The entire class is boring, mono-toned lecture. Map quizzes are an easy A if you study a little but tests are hard. Didn't do very well, but I didn't try to hard either. Not many people get an A, but a B is reasonable if you study enough and READ.
There is no group discussion. He just talks at the class. It's very difficult to stay awake.
I really enjoyed this class-- I learned a lot- the subject is dynamic and relevant. I actually had to devote more time to it to satisfy the "participation" portion by discussing topics online--than I originally planned on-but Professor Morris was understnading on this point.
Great professor, clearly passionate and knowledgeable about his field. Offers many different ways of contacting him and he actually gives lecture materials! Extremely slow grading (4+ wks) but responds very quickly to ?'s. Over 40% of the grade comes from the final two weeks of class. Barely used the bigger book, waste of money. Great overall!
Lectures are long and most of the time go off topic. If you love global stuff then I would take it but if you don't then you'll find it hard to concentrate as no one participates. Review questions on units and you'll most definitely have to read to understand whats going on. Map quizzes every week which are easy and final and midterm are Ok. Study!
Very nice guy, but doesn't look you in the eye. Review questions every week online. Midterm was pretty hard. He is very willing to help you. You have to do all of the readings - if you do you will be fine. 6-Page final project at end of semester that you work on throughout the semester. 2 books used in his class.
Mr.Morris is a nice and interesting man with a lot of knowledge about geography, but his class is all lecture, reading, and online HW. He says the HW is based on the readings and lecture, but the lectures barely relate to the ?'s. Lectures are boring he does not interact with the students. If you don't like reading avoid him we had 3 books.
He's a passionate academic (nerdish). Very long winded and eloquent but really fascinating perspective if you listen and try to view the topics the same way. Definitely a lot of reading. His class will change the way you look at the world like a good college class should. 5/5 stars. Will be taking urban studies with him in spring 14.
He's a great professor, is very helpful and is always available to answer questions. The course material is incredibly boring but there are some good discussions for the online assignments. You do need both books. The midterms and final are challenging, but very doable if you've read the online lectures and the books.
final exam is cumulative, this class is in person with an online part, make sure to read his slides with transcript and remember the vocab and read the books, at home quizzes are open book, not a hard class, nice professor, organized, easy to understand, each class he reviews the slides from the website, very serious man who does his job
He was great. Really thorough with his lectures and pretty much knows just about everything. You wont get to participate much in the class because he lectures all the way through, but if you can pay attention it is actually very interesting and does a good job. He is ALWAYS available for office hours and will help you with anything.
Professor Morris is a genius, seriously knows what he's talking about & knows it well. His class is all lectured base & tend to go along with the readings but when come to do the assignments the lectures don't really make sense. Lots of heavy reading & won't pass if you skim, so if you have time for that take his class plus its really interesting.
There are map quizzes which are pretty easy if you memorize the stuff he tells you. Powerpoints posted online so just take additional notes in class. Class is entirely lecture based. Good luck getting an A because he only gives 55s or 1010s to "excellent above and beyond" answers.
Professor Morris is a good professor in order to pass you must read the books and take notes from his presentations to pass his midterm and final exam. I recommend doing the keyword identifications to boost your grade up in the end.
Very hard teacher. His lectures are not about the section of the book... oh and he gives you 3 books to read.
If you're aiming for an A: -Don't skip; he takes roll. -Do all of your assigned homework, reading, studying. -Having a little world-view will definitely help. -Attend office-hours, your grade depends on it. -Lastly, overachieve and you shall achieve. If an intl. student like myself can do well in this class, any of you should be able to.
I had so many issues with this professor. I would constantly contact him for clarification and I practically had to beg for help. The content for the class was great, one of the reason I chose Geography as my major but I just struggled so much. Everything I did was never enough, so I barely passed. I plan on never taking a class with him again!
He is a great guy and does have a passion for this subject but believes he is straight forward and is he's not. He assigns 3 books which are only good for the hw (lots of reading) but not even for the mid term or test. His lectures are very long and seem off topic at times and if you ask for help he will leave you even more confused.
it was a challenging yet engaging course. books are expensive, but you need them. Morris LOVES analysis and critical thinking, if you're a copy/paste person he'll dock off points even if the answer is correct. a lot of work every week but it completely changed my perspective on cities.
I got the textbook but never opened it. He's big on your analysis of the Marks questions so put your thinking hat on. Lecture heavy. Slides are online. Bumps your grade up by half grade if you join Sustainability Workshop. Easy A if you're on top of current events and can find places on a map. Good luck getting called on if you raise your hand.
Very good professor. Won't look into your eyes , but he knows a lot of things and he is interesting to listen to. Lectures can feel long, but they're very clear. Just take notes during class and you won't have to read everything in the books. He has 3 books assigned, but I only read 1.5 of them, still passed everything.
Lecture heavy but goes off topic a lot so you won't understand the concept he's talking about. Won't pick on you if you have a question, and if you do get picked on, he'll interrupt you mid-question to answer. He thinks he's clear but he's not. On tests, you are only right through his opinion, not logic. He's a great person, but terrible professor.
probably the most boring class/professor I have ever taken in my life. literally read through these reviews, almost half of them contain the word "boring"... HOWEVER, he is a very friendly person and very passionate and insanely knowledgable about urban studies + geography. In other words, dont take him unless you are a geo major
He assigns a lot of reading for his class and uses three books simultaneously. Since the materials are dense, he covers the most critical info in his lecture powerpoint. As long as you keep up with the reading and pay attention to his lectures, the weekly online hw on Canvas is fairly easy. He also covers a lot of his IDs in his lecture.
I liked the Professor. He is very smart and passionate. At times his lectures go off topic and I think he forgets we are in a very basic course. If you come to class, do your reading and study regularly you can do very well! Be prepared for a quiz every single morning based on the previous day's lecture. I would take his class again.
1 midterm, 1 final MC, short answer. PPT r short but lectures for half the class on a single slide. Lots of info and weekly assignments, most MC, 2 were contributing to discussion post. exams based on ppt and Qs from hw. books necessary for hw! just take good notes, study them, and know the correct answers to the hw. know key identifications (ppt)
He is the hardest grader I have ever have. Only 1 midterm and if you don't do well on that, drop the class. No need to get the textbook. The Glaeser book is interesting and needs to be read if you want to do well on the discussions. The other online discussions are graded insanely hard and all effort needs to be put in to get a B.
Lectures every class, gives short easy MCQ quizzes at the beginning of each class based off material from last class, goes off tangents, talks a lot, don't need textbook, material very dry, online discussions/reading questions based off the assigned book every other week (alternates), 1 paper, 1 midterm, 1 final
You can truly tell he is passionate about world geography. Hes very knowledgeable in his field. He does give daily quizzes on previous class concepts. Attending every class boosts your grade. Go to his office hours! It will help you with your reading questions. Definitely have to put in work but he is willing to help!
Don't take this professor! He thinks he is at war with his students & we are all lazy, unable/unwilling to learn. He piles on assignments(heavy discussions, long book tasks) & his poorly written online exams barely give you enough time to read the questions. Even if you've done all the reading & notes - they are specifically written to trick you.
Professor Morris loves geography. I much rather a professor that is enthusiastic about the subject than one that is not. With that said, you will learn a lot from him. His lectures are dense, but he really does try to explain it in simple terms. Lots of reading, but this is college. His test and quizzes can be hard. he likes analytical answers
Winter session was pretty hectic, but a very interesting class w/ a ton of material to absorb. He is very passionate about geography & it shows in his lectures. No group work or much class discussion (fine w/ me), short daily review quizzes, a couple of written assignments & 2 exams. No textbook; uses 3 short/cheap books & online texts(free)
Get the eBook and save a lot of time studying for the exams. I mostly focused on his lecture notes online, read them once, then took the quizzes and exams without reading the textbook. Exams and assignments are clear and not too hard. Course discussion should be split up by week (16 discussions in one gets hard to navigate). Otherwise great class!
Two textbooks plus 280 pages of lecture notes. Essays every week, quizzes, and researched discussion posts. It was a lot of work and grading was very weird. He also disables the average grade and things like that in canvas, so it's very hard to keep track of your grade. Horrible!
Hes self centered. No group works. Entire time hes the only who speaks. Dull class. Seriously I dont recommend you taking his classes. Wasting your time.
After my BS degree I must say that this is one of my favorite professors ever. He is so passionate about his subject, and knows everything about everything. He is also humble and cares about his students. Amazing professor. If you ever care to learn anything -- take him.
Passionate and effective teacher. Only critique is that he often went off topic and we ended up not covering the final unit. Grades based on online assignments, midterm and final, and Map quizzes. Flexible about retakes. The course was interesting and I genuinely learned a lot. He does grade short answers strictly so take note.
Very knowledgeable and passionate. He does stray out of topic for forever. He has a lot of ways he grades you! MAKE SURE YOU READ THE SYLLABUS! Nice person, I'd just like it if he'd been more engaging and would let students participate more! It'd be nice if he'd ask questions through his lectures! Tests are hard but study and you'll be fine.
I took urban studies course (urban8) online. Very heavy material for a 3 unit course. He uses two books throughout the whole course and more than 30 pages each to read in 3-4 day span. Plus the discussions threads you have to participate and answer questions you MUST be thorough for credit. Very very very detailed answers. You need 4 hours a day!
Wow. As a scholars student with a 4.0 I came into this class thinking it wouldnt be bad. After a massive amount of hard work put into this course he gave me a B. He is a very tough grader and never answers emails. By far the worst professor I have had at SMC. He is not interactive at all with his students DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS YOU WILL REGRET IT!
Mr. Morris knows is incredibly knowledgeable and smart. This class is meant for people who actually want to learn and develop a good work ethic. The amount of work that you put into this class will be directly reflected in your grade. Looking for an easy class? This is not it. Looking for a class to gain insane amounts of knowledge? This is perfect
Lots of lectures that drag, constantly found myself almost falling asleep. Not a bad class or prof, just boring. Goes off on many tangents and a lot of the time talks too much and interrupts students a lot. Clear powerpoints posted online. One midterm and final. Online hw due every friday. Don't need the text book. One essay at the end. Overall, ok
teacher really overloads you with reading and lectures. He makes this course a lot harder then it needs to be. Feel like he expects us to have mastery level comprehensions over stuff we are barely learning. Knows his stuff but when hes curating his exams/assignment i feel like hes writing this from his expert understanding. My GPA at risk here :(
In short, He knows his stuff and is passionate about the subject which makes him expect alot of work & understanding from his students. Uses 3 textbooks which you are to read from every week and have deep understanding of. This class demands alot of time because its not just a basic understanding you must demonstrate. Wish he would tone it down
Professor Morris knows his subject but is not a good teacher. During the Spring 2020 semester due to the coronavirus pandemic all classes were online. Professor Morris just decided to post the lecture notes and have us teach ourselves. He is having us do three hard finals despite not teaching anything. Made the class feel like a waste of time.
Incredibly boring class. The professor clearly cares about the subject but his monotone voice and lengthy tangents make it seem otherwise. He can spend up to 30 min on 1 ppt slide. 3 books, daily review quizzes, weekly hw assignments (online), and 2 major exams (both multiple choice/short answer). There's also a semester long assignment/discussion.
Morris is nice and very knowledgable. I took him in the semester during the pandemic and he was super accommodating to everyone and ensured we all got good grades. LOT OF READING! you can get away with not reading everything but it makes it a lot harder. Lectures have a lot of info and are kind of boring. An online assignment and quiz due each week
Lots of reading (Book + Lectures.) Weekly quizzes (basically homework) and discussions based on the assigned readings (repeated participation matters.) Map Drawing Assignment (takes 2-3 hours) or Quizzes every two weeks. Midterm consists of MCQ and FRQ. The Final is cumulative and consists of MCQ + FRQ + Map Quiz. Tests are open-booked.
Just a little boring. The class wasnt so bad its just the reading, lots of reading is required and gets kinda boring. You just read and answer questions from homework and test. Discussions are more of your own thoughts but he does require a lot for discussions as well. The only thing that makes it hard is the boring books.
If I had to describe this experience with PM by one word, it would be rancid. I wouldn't use the vocabs teach or instruct, cause it seems like prof morris does not want his students to be engaged nor interested in his material. Sighs.
Please if you read this, Dont take his class. Especially if you plan to take it during winter or summer. You get 10 discussion post to do. 2 per week. Midterm and Final split into 2 parts : Part 1 is MC with confusing questions and no time to double check anything. part 2: Short answer 6 questions which they are very long. He dont care about you.
His grading system is unclear and weird. His discussion assignments are "due" on Sundays, but in fact you have to post before Thursday night to get full credit. There's also participation that counts toward your overall grade, which I have no idea how it works because it's a fully online course without scheduled meetings or even office hours.
His class contains heavy and boring reading which you have to spend tons of time on this class if you want to get an A. Every week has discussion and quiz. You have to post before Thursday in order to get full points for discussions. I wrote almost over 1,000 words for each discussion to get full points(15pts). Just avoid it!
Do not take this class if reading isn't your only activity. Lots of reading selected from Wikipedia, and anywhere else. The textbook also has to be read extensively. I found the class very tiresome because of the randomly selected materials. You've to take a significant amount of your time to answer the 8 review questions.
Not what I wanted from a college class. Monotone voice and too much reading assigned.
The class itself wasn't bad at all ~ there was just A LOT of reading which made it boring sometimes. The homework, quizzes, Midterm, and Final are all open book, and the map quizzes for each unit are fairly simple. The discussions are based on the assigned readings and some outside sources, but the grading is a bit strange for the discussions.
Due dates are very confusing especially trying to get full credit. A lot of reading, but the grading method is ridiculous.
Take Any Class he teaches. Yes he requires a lot of reading - just read it. His subject matter will assist you in the competitive world of career shopping. He assigned the text by the Harvard educated economist Edward Glaser. I have quoted Glaser and Prof. Pete Morris on urban reform. Take his class, your efforts will pay in dividends.
The good reviews seemed to not be written by his own students. I had to sacrifice my other classes just for this one. The grades aren't even shown so you don't even know how you're doing. The due dates are confusing, something will be due on a specific date but then to get full points you need to complete it earlier. Too much reading
Grades are closed so you cant view your grade throughout the entirety of the course. To get max points, you must submit the assignment extra early and when you do, still miss one point as he grades harshly. Responds to emails slowly and overall wouldnt take this class again. Seems to only be good for students in the urban field.
I took his Geography 2 and 11 online. I got A from both class. There are lot of assignments, but as long as you follow the guideline and submit your assignments early, you can get full credit. No extra credit, but he offered A from 84% or higher I think. But the problem is that you can't see the current grade through canvas.
I took his Geography class (and I was excited for this class as I minor in Geography). He wanted classes to be an "open discussion" but it was rather hard as his lectures were not very engaging and he would overexplain and drag on a lot. He also never showed grade totals on Canvas and he didn't even give me a good reason as to why.
Avoid this professor at all costs. He does not let you view your grade throughout the whole semester so good luck on that. Also the only possible way to get an A on an assignment is if he personally agrees with your view point and if you turn in the work a week early. This class will take up most of your time, lots of reading.
he lectures the whole class and it just seems like rambling. when you try to ask a question it's almost as if you're interrupting him. the student should feel free to raise their hand and clarify. his lectures are so heavy, and the assignments don't match up to the exams. the concepts he wants us to know are taught to us in a horrible way
The only reason I passed with a B is because he dropped lowest work from each module which are 7 he'll give out. Moreover, his map and test are like 10 to 15 mins each and you have to know the material and no time looking at the book for answers. Furthermore, he breaks the final into three parts and grades them harshly. Overall, avoid if you can.
Please, think again if you want to take his online class
If you want really boring and long lectures where you have no clue what he's talking about and the other 5 people that actually showed up are on their phones or taking a nap, take his class. I learned nothing from his lectures and became so tired of hearing his voice that I skipped sometimes. He was nice but I'm happy to be done with geography.
Do not take a class with this professor if you don't have to. No slides or anything he just rambles on and on and if you ask a question it's like you're bothering/interrupting him. do not recommend
I took Geog 2 + 11 online. His "lectures" were literally just reading things he wrote with no supplemental videos. It was a terrible way to learn. He teaches from a really Euro-centric perspective, like quoting Henry Kissinger's book when writing about China. It was so disappointing.
This class was brutal, solely because no matter how much effort you'd put into the discussion posts (which you will dread), he won't give you 100% and they're worth 30% of your grade. I learned a lot yes, but I also forgot a lot and was hoping to gain more from this class but the assignments were grueling. Final is also very rough. Great guy though
Does not really teach you anything, just drops wiki pages for you to read, the class is not really hard per se, but extremely boring. Had a discussion with another peer and we really did not learn anything. The thing I hated the most was using Chat GPT, which you had to have a conversation with, why do I care what AI has to say.
