if you really want to learn then take this teacher. he will really make you work for your grade!

A professor that makes you think. His insight into the short stories are very interesting. Some of his writing assignments are difficult. If you pass his class be proud because you will be among the few.

Real quality teacher. Should not take this class if you are already struggling with writing and have yet to develope a style. However this is a great class for those who are already competent writers and simply wish to improve their skills.

Tough grader; but he is also a very helpful, a very clear, and a very motivated teacher. Your writing techniques WILL drastically improve after taking his class.

we started the class with 45&now,we are down to five.its like survivor.students dropped like flies.my grade is going that way too.im just hoping that i pass the class.he teaches well,you learn alot,his intentions are good and all he really wants is for his students to excell!pretty tough professor but really gets you thinking!

This class is extremely hard but for some reason i did farely well. Take a lot of notes and don't be intimidated. Talk to him and he will help you. He's kinda strange but you'll get used to it. Also, do every reading assignment because he will bump your grade up in the end if you need it- and you probably will.

If you suck at writing and don't want to learn to write then don't take this class. It isn't hard, and if you write down the instructions for the essays and follow his directions you'll do fine and learn to write decent. Again, if you're a crappy writer, and especially if you're a crappy, prejudgemental person, then don't take the class.

He's a little strange, but he has a good sense of humor. he has a kind of cynical, dry attitude, which i found amusing. if you put in the work it's really not that difficult. if you're a lazy person than this class isnt for you. he doesn't sugar coat it for you.

this is one of the most best teacher you could have. He is hard but fair and will always answer questions for you. He comes off as Jerk the first day but after a few people leave he lightens up

at first when u get into the class ur thinking its going to be so hard, and impossible but honestly its not if u just stick it through, his there to help...but if u want an easy grade dont take this class...but u walk out a GREAT WRITER

He is actually a great teacher, i have learned a lot about writing by taking him. If u are not willing to try hard, and read a lot do not take him. It was my hardest class, but i enjoyed it. He is very clear on what he wants, and he lets u call him if u have ?'s on the essays. If u are a procrastinator, or u dont go to class he is not right for u.

This class was a lot harder than I expected it to be. He practically redefines stringent guidelines, and WILL severely grade you down if you do not follow them. However, he is very clear in what he asks of you. Don't take this class if you are looking for an "easy A." There is lot of work, but this class will make you a stronger writer.

he sucks!!!! dont take him if you can avoid it, not even half way through the semester over half the class dropped

over all i am glad that i took his class. it was difficult to get through at some points but it was extremely rewarding in the end. he was very helpful with the essays as well.

Tates class is super hard, but it makes you feel so accompished when you pass. All you have to do to pass is follow his instructions which he is very particular about, and do the reading. Its def not an easy A, but I learned so much.

I agree with most of the comments. However, the only difference is that I took Professor Tate at Cerritos College and he did strip every pride I had in regards to my good writing. I literally earned mainly A's and B's on my papers but just because I did not turn one essay in he gave me a C for my overall grade. Arrrgh!!!! There goes my GPA.

Tate is a genius when it comes to english which makes him a tough instructor. He definitely knows what he wants in an essay and will down-grade you if you don't give him just that. This class is not for procrastinators (I would know), but he is a really good professor. If you can't handle writing numerous papers, or lots of reading, don't take him.

Here's the bottom line: if you do not have any desire to learn, if you just want to waste a semester going to class just for the units, then Tate is not your guy. However, if you truly have a thirst for knowledge, you will be begging Tate to reveal the depths of his ingenuity. Papers are always graded within a week or less with helpful feedback.

Excellent teacher, who actually expects students to work for their grade. Do the work, follow the assignments and you'll do fine. He's always available to answer questions and genuinely cares. Not a class for flakes who expect to skate by without working.

Best teacher I've ever had; he truly cares about making college-level writers. Not for the faint of heart or the marginal interest. He makes himself available more than any professor, and will take as much time as needed to get you on the right track, provided you make an effort. If he taught any class above 100, I'd be signed up already.

I cannot comprehend talking about this man. He is bad. He does not want any student to do well or succeed. I have had difficult professor but he has set the bar high as the worst/terrible professor ever. Do a favor for youself and avoid him forver!

He is not as bad as these reports say he is. I have learned so much from his class. He is not easy, but his class is very rewarding. If you want to be a better writer, take this class.

He is a hard professor, but brilliant. The class always had me so worried and nervous.Critical errors: late, absent,not listening/following directions and procrastination. He is VERY helpful if you ask him or call him, and DO ASK OR CALL. If your not up for the challenge don't take the class, but for those who are he will make you a stronger writer

This class was not easy in any way; however, I am glad to have taken it. If you don't know what to do, ASK HIM, because He is extremely helpful. Don't take the class if you are lazy. Oh and if he says to use parenthetical citations after each sentence... DO IT!! He grades very strictly even a little mistake can land an A paper an F!

Difficult and strict indeed as other people say, but what u gain from being in this class is very valuable. Most cases, in the career or work field, you must abide by the specific guidelines your boss sets for you and whether you like to believe it or not you are being "graded" as an employee. So not slacking = job well done (is what he teaches.

Loved him! Most of the students who had to drop his class entered it with the idea that they'd get an easy A. Well, trust me, you will not get an easy A. He is tough but know his stuff. I can really write now. Also, he is extremely helpful. He does not give up on his students as long as they don't give up on him. Take his fun and challenging class!

Very difficult class. A ton of reading and a ton of writing. I had to pick up some writing books to brush up on my skills. Expects you to be an adult and be able to follow directions, I left this class a far better writer. If you don't succeed in his class you have no one to blame but yourself.

I am a terrible writer but I still managed to get an A+ because i FOLLOWED HIS DIRECTIONS! He grades on following directions and following basic MLA format in your essays. He assigns easy homework, annotating essays out of "Best American Essays", (which some are pretty good to read. To get a good grade in his class you must actively participate

Basically, as long as you follow directions and know basic grammar, you can get an A. Seems easy, but you'd be surprised by the amount of people who find it difficult to simply follow directions. He seems kind of stiff, systematic, cold (and a little weird) at first, but he's actually really helpful. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

I worked really hard in this class and found that to pass you need to follow directions for the essays. He is all about grammar and format and does not care much about the content.

He's a tough grader, but he does care. I didn't pass and had to retake English 100 again, but that's only because I didn't follow directions clearly in a crucial assignment and missed some homework. As long as you do the reading and follow the directions as closely as possible, you will be fine. He's awkward, scary at times, but not impossible.

He docked a whole grade because I missed the works cited page. Hard grading but very helpful professor

Tate is a very tough grader and will mark you down either a full grade or half a grade for small mistakes. Although he is a tough grader he does care and is more than willing to help you. I found him to be very helpful and in the long run it really improved my writing. If you follow his directions and try hard you will be fine.

If you don't like him it's because you don't want to try. He knows what he is talking about and he wants you to actually retain knowledge.

Pete Tate will definitely challenge you. He really does know what he's talking about and genuinely wants every student to learn and succeed. He is always more than willing to help- don't be afraid to ask any questions. Follow directions very carefully and put your time into this class and you'll do just fine! No quizzes. Just essays and readings.
