Nice New Zealandish accent. Explained things very well, and has a great notes system. You HAVE to pay attention because he calls on random people in the class.
Ive learned that I suck at economics but Professor Morgan was phenominal. Great lectures and very funny. I enjoyed him very very much. If you like economics hes the goto man.
Not a bad guy, he taught very well. I didn't like how he presented a rather unfair and biased view of free trade.
Morgan is the man. He has a really cool accent, and he teaches very clearly. His notes are very helpful, and I like how he picks on random people during class. It's always entertaining.
This is a GREAT teacher...and his notes make the class the more easier/better... but because he fills out the notes as we go along...you need to go to class =D
Not the teacher to take if you have no clue about Economics and don't want to work hard to understand what is going on. Morgan is a funny guy though. But watch it... he WILL call on you! My TA was hard to understand
Nicest/Best professor I've had yet. His note taking system is outstanding. Go to class and put in a decent effort and you'll easily walk out with a B+
excellent note taking system, He teaches economics very clearly and organized. I look forward to his classes.
Good teacher. As long as you do the problem sets that go along with the lectures, you will do fine. His tests usually have like four hard questions, but if you get all of the other one's it is pretty easy. And there is also a very nice curve.
Great teacher. Different but awesome way of teaching you the class. You actually learn
Extremely intimidating method of teaching. He walks around the room and picks on innocent victims. He is a good teacher though (I just didnt try) and I would recommend doing the problem sets before quizzes and exams. His curve is really good too. I suck at eco, didnt pass any test/quiz and still managed to get a C- which was shocking!
morgan is the best professor. I honestly went to class all together maybe 10 or 15 times and I came in second out of 400 people. It's a tough course and his tests are def not east, but the study guides really help
Decent teacher, but teaches the class with some bias. If you spend a little time learning how to do the problems and have common sense you'll have no problem
There def. is bias when he teaches. Also hes not as good as everyone says he is. The way he words his exam questions is ridiculous and his tests are hard...make sure u review the notes and problem sets.
morgan was such a nice guy. his notes are powerpoint presentations, which he put online for you to print and bring to class. SO convenient. explained stuff well. recitation is optional- i never went because my TA couldn't speak english. 4 in class quizzes, 2 midterms, and a final. not bad, but hard course nonetheless.
Such a sweet teacher. Clear and concise. Teaches real world topics and connects all the chapters to actual world problems we face or will face at some point. His only "bias" is that he tends to favor intelligence over stupidity. No book. He gives you notes to print out and there is a problem packet you can buy to study with. Recitation optional.
babbled on stuff no one cares about and is not on the tests. some lectures would be based entirely on real world economic problems, which i dont think the average freshman really cares about. you dont really need to go to lecture. problem sets are all you need. he was a good prof who challenged his students. no **** with this guy.
He seems nice, but if you have a conflict in your schedule, he will hate you. I had to plan a flight home and HE changed his final after I booked my flight and told me "I'm not happy with You," then proceeded to YELL at me during my final exam. Tests are rather difficult, he delights in tricking people into picking the incorrect answer.
not clear, tests are mad hard, don't take him if you can mangage it
The class was tough if you didnt know the applications of it to the real world. It was important to go to every lecture since you dont use a book, but he is good enough to have created his own note set available for purchase at the bookstore.
Good teacher. Doesnt put you to sleep. You can buy all of his notes for the semester and you dont need the book. Neither class nor recitation are mandatory. Very helpful professor and TA's. Tests can be confusing but he drops your lowest.
Nice guy, delights in tricking people on tests, class is pretty boring, but he has a good sense of humor... the three "midterms" he has we pretty hard..
Prof. Morgan is an extremely knowlegable. He is an excellent teacher and he does the class a great service with providing his own lecture notes. Do not buy the textbook I strongly reccommend going to class but you need to study everyday if you intend to do so, he has an intimidating method of patroling around the room. TAKE FARFARAS he is the best
Morgan is probably one of the best professors as far as his ability and conduct. However, as great as he is, the class itself is the real challenge. He explains everything perfectly, but the material is harder than simply listening to him talk and wrtiting notes. Out of all the professors, you want Morgan if you have to take the class.
Don't buy the textbook, just buy his lecture notes. Class is hard, moreso based on the subject, not the professor. Very nice and willing to help. Recitation optional, I NEVER went to recitation. It's easy to get behind, it's in your best interest to go to lecture, but attendance is optional. Can/will relate to students. 3 MC exams, 4 quizzes.
I loved him. He is probably the best economics teacher that I have ever had. If you do your work and study, than getting an A is not difficult at all.
Awesome and funny!
Decent teacher yet his lecture notes for the course were incredibly convoluted and contained much pointless banter. There are also more than a few mistakes so be careful. He tends to mumble and trail off which makes him difficult to follow sometimes. sounds like geico lizzard (accent)
didn't mean the last post to be derogatory. i am sorry if thats the way it came off. i was merely referring to his dry wit and new Zealand accent. aside with a few prob with the lecture notes and his bias on certain issues (monopolism, government assistance) mr. morgan is a worthwhile teacher to have and i would recommend him.
Morgan was funny, concise and clear. Recommend him highly only if you get Farfaras as TA, together and followed closely, these 2 will gurantee you an A. Attendance non mandatory but he makes up for that with tricky exams. Textbook not necessary but problem sets are the order of the day. Exams all multiple guess, no curve but an A starts from a 75.
He teaches and tests you on his lecture notebook, not text bk. The book is long robust banter and you HAVE TO go to lecture to fill in the BLANKS in the book or you will do poorly on exams. Going to lecture is like nap time. He makes senseless jokes and wanders away in his own world. So now you know who saves you the most money on car insurance.
very hard to understand at times bc hes such a low talker and lectures were sometimes pointless but overall he was a good guy and approachable.
Morgan is a decent prof. who is very helpful. You can go to his office hours and he is very glad to help. His tests and quizs can be hard, but you need a 75 for an A. You have3 quiz's and 3 midterms. He also likes to trick people on them too. As for his accent, he had one, but you can still understand what he says.
Great economics professor. Tries to explain everything in a way you would understand. If you come to class it is an east B, if you try too it is an easy A. Only buy the lecture notes, Dont buy the Book.
I liked Professor Morgan. He was very intelligent and interested in his work. The lecture notes were great... hope you like cookies and cakes! It's a rather easy topic, but you have to pay attention to detail. His grading scheme was rather interesting. 75% for an A, but I wasn't complaining about that.
I took ECON 401 (intermediate micro) from Prof. Morgan at U-M. He is an excellent teacher who gives good, interesting lectures and doesn't put up with any bull. Class is not easy but exams and grading are fair. Make sure you study the math; his lectures focus more on the concepts (a style of teaching I prefer) than the algebra.
he knows his economics very well. the material isn't that hard it is just the wording and understanding his logic that may get hard. if you pay attention and understand the material, you can pass this course. 75+ is an A
Lecture/recitation optional. Don't buy the textbook, just but his lecture notes. DO NOT panic if you fail the first two quizzes, and don't listen to his emails telling you that if you failed the first 2 quizzes you will likely fail the test. I bombed the first 2 quizzes and now I have an A-. 75% is an A, and exams are tough but straight forward
very smart. LOVES microeconomics. but his class is based for the most part on three exams (including the final) which are very difficult. do not be confused by the 75%+ A ;this is NOT an easy A. Most people get a C in this class and many fail. His lectures are comprehendable but exams are much more complex.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Do yourself a favor and take Cherry. Much better- this guy is out of control.
This class is overly difficult for the content it covers.A is 75 and above, and you might even end up with an A going into the last exam, but then you open the exam, look at the questions, and end up wondering why you even studied. The exams are overly difficult and he purposely tricks you. I had a 4.0 GPA last semester but this class wont be an A.
class is more difficult than it needs to be. morgan is not a good lecturer and tests are tricky. grading system is deceptive; i had an A going into the exam, studied like crazy and my grade dropped. TA GEORGIOS FARFARAS is a must in order to do remotely well. you will rob yourself by not going to his recitations. tough but doable if you work hard.
Awesome professor, Take him!! Very clear in his explanations and will make you love micro economics
Do not take this class...Can't understand what the guy is saying over his accent and soft spoken voice. Even if he was clear would have no idea what he was talking about. Quizzes and Midterm are impossible if I was you take this class with another teacher or at a community college avoid at all costs....
great teacher makes economics interesting to learn about. the tests are hard but if you study a decent amount an A shouldn't be too hard. pretty much need to go to class since his textbook has to be filled in as you go. also, no homework! definitely recommended.
i took this course last year and i really want to comment on him. CLASSES SUPER BORING. I want to know what kind of people who gave good comments on him. DON't TAKE his class!!!
he is hard to understand, cant hear a thing in lecture n i sit in front of the lecture room, exams are very difficult, studied crazy, was at an A status in the beginning of the class, but the final was extremely difficult regardless how hard you studied, not an easy A class, if lucky get a B
A pretty easy class but the teacher doesn't teach the material well. The tests are designed to trick you and while his reasons for doing so are good, often the questions become very unclear and hard to answer even if you know all the material.
Just amazing.
terrible teacher teaches things easy and tests them extremely hard sometimes doesnt even teach test material you have to go figure it out yourself, if you are a business major do not take his ECO182 because of his class i am at risk of being removed from the school of management, a 75% and up is an A but most people get C's, good luck with this guy
Great guy but not the best teacher, has a very soft voice and a canadian accent. Do not take this class for an easy grade, it was not easy at all. 72-100 was an A, but i never came close to it, plus no curve. Tests were hard period.
ECO182A: Extremely helpful, very gentle. Can be funny, has a nice sense of teaching. Though it is a tough class, if you pay attention and be regular, It is easily possible to get a B grade. It's a class based more on understanding, ad if you are looking for an easy A, better not take him.
Good teacher, very quiet. Interesting way to make you take notes. Tests are rather hard in his class. you can get 30% and pass the class
one of the worst teachers that has graced the campus of UB. He makes everything he says seem simple during lectures than absolutely nails you with tough tricky test questions. his accent was hard to understand. i would not recommend this class to any student ever.
His lectures are easy to understand but when it comes to the test the questions are tricky and hard. Getting an A seems easy because it is 75-100 but it's really not. Cannot figure out his accent..
This is a fairly difficult course but it is not hard to get an A on each test. As long as you start studying 3-4 days prior to the test you should be fine. If you do the problem sets he provides to study for the test and make sure you understand each problem you will have no difficulty getting an A. Preparedness is key.
He is a very very smart man and is sometimes hard to understand. But overall, I think he is a good teacher. The class is very tough but also fair. He gives very difficult tests but the scale for an A is 75-100.
If you like a teacher with a New Zealand accent who mumbles about stories nothing related, he's your man.
He has his own Lecture Note and Question sets which are extremely helpful. If you study the question sets, you should be fine even though it is not mandatory. You can get an A if you got 75 or higher which mean 19 questions out of 25 correct. You should do fine if you study. TAs are not helpful, and no need to buy textbook.
Hw and text bk are not required but his own notes and problem sets. You can skip his lectures as long as you find a friend to complete the notes and study for it and finish problem sets before exams you will do fine. 75+ is an A which is impossible if you pay attention.
A great professor, I have retained nearly all of the topics from the semester. He is good like that if you try hard enough you really learn it, but its a ton of work and requires full cooperation to get an but its doable, only need an 80 for an A
Sets the hardest test ever but made it sounds so easy in class! You must be really smart to study with him but I would credit him for being helpful
Well he knows his stuff but his TAs were all bad... I got an A for this course so I think anyone could get an A if they just understand the material.
do not take this class. DO NOT DO THIS TO YOURSELF.
Although he is a genuinely nice person, his class was not so good. He calls on students randomly during a lecture to answer questions. His tests are quite hard. He doesn't explain things in his lecture clearly. The TA I had for this class had an accent which made it hard to understand. the Professor is extremely caring.
Prof. Morgan is a wonderful teacher, but his tests are tough & he expects you to work for an A. Do the homework, go to the lectures, study, and you'll do fine.
Even though the class seems boring sometimes, but if you want to get an A please try your best to follow. The grade is base on 3 Exams and small portion on the quizzes. The key point I think is to 1. go through the notes 2. make sure you understand every question on the practices question on each chapter, if you dont, go to TAs or Professor
Morgan is pretty great. His lectures are clear to understand and although his notes are long they are helpful. Definitely do the problem sets!!!!! He is always ready to help, if needed. Exams are kinda hard. Quizzes are okay.
Professor Morgan is great. While his quizzes and exams are hard, his lectures make them seem somewhat bearable. Do the practice problems that go with each lecture note set, because they really help you understand the material. I didn't go to any of his recitations, because I couldn't understand the TA's with their thick accents. 75% and above A!
Professor Morgan is a nice and funny guy teaching a boring and hard topic. His lectures sometimes drag on and go off topic. There is no mandatory homework just 4 quizzes (10% of grade) and 3 exams (90% of grade) which are tough. A 75 and above is an A but there is no curve and the median grade was a 58% in my class.
Morgan is a great teacher. His lectures are very clear and straightforward, as are the exams. Exam material is no harder than the material covered in class. If you have a decent foundation in calculus and are willing to do the homework, you can get an A. Outside of class, he's an all around nice guy who respects his students.
I took this class my first semester in college. This class is not easy! Put the work in. GO TO CLASS. I know it's boring, but his lectures are helpful. DO THE PROBLEM SETS. Quizzes will be similar to the questions from the problem sets. 4 quizzes, 3 exams, no HW. He mentions a few textbooks @ the beginning of the semester but they're not required.
Dr. Morgan is a kind and patient man. His work is hard but he'll definitely help you if you need the help. The class isn't easy though, you have to work for a good grade. He stresses the importance of understanding the material rather than just memorizing it. Overall, he's a great professor.
Please please come to his lectures if you wanna have AT LEAST B- since he doesn't post lecture notes online. He teaches just fine but when it comes to quizzes and exams you will be wondering whether you've been studying hard or the questions were tough. Come to his recitations or review session before quizzes/finals!
Dr. Morgan may come off as easy going, but he can literally ruin your GPA with his tests. As long as you go to recitation and attend office hours you should be fine. Also, make sure you don't skip class because he doesn't post lecture slides online. Outside of the classroom he's a really nice guy and very patient with whatever questions you have :)
The only people who didn't like Pr. Morgan were people who didn't study fors tests, he makes you work for a high letter grade, but it's because he is one of the few teachers at UB who really cares if his students learn. His lectures are pretty funny, sometimes a little awkward but he made a boring topic pretty interesting. Best teacher I've had yet
Good professor. He made his own textbook which is an easy read compared to traditional textbooks. If you put in the effort and do all the example problems he provides you should do well in the class. The lectures are not mandatory however they do help. All the lecture notes are put online.
He is probably the best economics teacher to take. He carefully explains all the slides from his own well done powerpoint. As long as you read the slides and do sample problems, you will do really well in his class. There is no curve on tests but any grade above a 75 is an A- or A.
Maths for Economists from Dr Morgan. A) He does not use text books. Only notes B) You will prove amazing things like Fixed Point Theorems and Nash Equilibrium C) He taught lattice theory which I really enjoyed D) His basic introduction to real analysis was useful E) He likes microeconomics. He thought macro people were nuts. F) Always available
Peter Morgan is out of control indeed. Few suggestions 1. Dont sit in the front row, he may comment on what youre wearing, 2. Dont visit his office hours ALONE or dont let him close the door 3. If he gives you his cellphone number, dont call or text him. 4. Make sure to contact him only by email 5. Take it from another professor if you can
He's now retired from teaching and it's a real loss for the Econ students at Buffalo. His class was hard but that's only because he truly cared about students. He had a real ability to make you think harder/
Extremely difficult tests. Very hard to understand in lectures and notes usually cover one specific topic that doesn't help with the tests at all.
Horrible Professor, I am not sure why he is still teaching. I am typically a straight A student and this is the first time I've had a problem like this. I can never hear him during lectures and his lecture material is all over the place. The midterm was horrible. Whatever you do, do not take his class. Also, will probably have to retake this class.
This is a very tough class! Midterm tests are actually impossible. Every person I asked what they got on the exams had failed. He talks very quietly in class and even if you sit in the front you can't hear him. The notes are all over the place. I recommend not taking this class with this professor.
Just Horrible. Please do not take this class if you can avoid it. I literally withdrew from this class because I didnt understand anything and I went to office hours just for him to not help me at all. A good guy just a horrible teacher. 0 out of 10 would not recommend!
I should have changed professors or dropped the class earlier now when he last minute decided to teach this class. Now, I have to deal with a R on my record. He is not a good professor and his exams are extremely hard. I spent hours studying and still failed as did many of my classmates. Retaking this class over summer. Do not take this class!!
Dont take this class w him. Just dont. Exams dont align with lecture material. He doesnt know how to teach. He always comments on what students are wearing (weirdo). Makes things difficult for no reason. Too many trick questions in exams. Almost impossible to get an A on exam EVEN THOUGH ITS OPEN NOTE! That should tell u a lot.
He sucks at teaching and his tests are extremely hard. His lectures do not prepare you for the tests
Professor Morgan has been an awful professor. He makes grades based on 3 exams and homework (homework plays little role in grades). Even though all of his exams have been open note so far, I have not heard of one person passing. Lectures are boring and notes do not match the exams, making almost every question on the exam a guess. AVOID AT ALL COST
Professor Morgan is really nice, but this class is extremely unorganized to the point that it seems impossible to pass. The lectures are difficult to follow and do not correspond to the book chapters or homework. I do all the homework attend lectures and discussion but the tests are still impossible. I'm going to fail an intro class interesting..
Pure torture. I can't hear him unless he is angry. If you enjoy constant stress and regret then this is the path for you. Enjoy!!! Luv u
Hard class, most of the class gets a 50 and he won't curve at all. I don't recommend this professor to anyone because of this. His homework isn't anything like the exams at all.
Well based on the other reviews I'm sure anyone looking into taking this class can get an idea of what it's like. Professor uses iclicker to take attendance but must have had an error on his part because many students in the class are being marked absent on days that class isn't in session. Professor won't fix this mistake.
He doesn't explain well at all, his homework is nothing like his test. Most of the class has a 50 or lower. Dont take this class.
Horrendous teacher, please get me tf out of this class. Class avg is a 53 rn ggs boys
Awful, just Awful, nice person but cannot teach a class. All over the place during his lectures and is hard to hear and understand. I recommend not even going to class since Id do better taking the test blindfolded. class average of a 53 speaks for itself.
Every exam question is a guess. No matter how much you study theres really no use, because the study material and lecture slides are not enough to prepare you for his questions. He puts trick questions, words the questions weirdly, and its obvious he doesnt want anyone to pass. Its impossible to. Avoid at all cost. 0/10.
If you need to take micro, literally choose any other prof possible. Even if you have an A in attendance and homework, your grade will heavily rely on the 3 midterm tests. The test questions are ridiculously hard and the majority of my class had failing grades, w no curve. He's hard to hear in class and doesn't explain the material that well.
This man is incapable of teaching a classroom anymore and his test material is way beyond anything the homeworks and practice problems given. Also, for the final exam he decided to not show any work on the practice tests so you have no idea how to solve the problems. I DO NOT reccomend taking this course with Peter Morgan.
I recommend not taking this class with professor Morgan. What he teaches in class is so different from what is on the tests. His lectures are very long and he does not explain stuff well. He speaks so low that you can't even hear him if you sit in the front row. Please don't take this class.
In complete awe of how this class is run. Never in my life have I seen so many people fail. Terrible look for a great school. Exams are absurdly impossible. 0 material to study. Lectures have nothing to do with what is on exam. Something needs to be done for the students that took this class this semester. In complete shock.
I took this class for fun my senior year. Very bad. Simply put, my white non Nigerian hombre is not good
The structure of this class is unbelievably horrible. Your grade is based off 3 exams, homeworks, and iclicker questions/attendance (iClicker and HW barely factor). He doesn't post practice exams and the lecture content/hw is nothing like the test so it's very difficult to study for. If you didn't take macro before good luck. Class average was a 51
Your grade is based on three exams and nothing else. The homework pretty much only helps with the plus or minus on your grade. He refuses to curve any of his exams and is hard to hear. His notes are all over the place. don't recommend it!
this class left me with grey hair
Genuinely the worst professor I have ever spoken to or had a class with. Terrible Ub.
