His class is pretty straight forward, his lectures are structured and clear. If you take good notes and study them you will do fine. You can get away with not doing the reading

Intro to Biblical Studies. I had this as a 3hr class. Pretty straightforward, a decent amount of reading, quizzes and tests aren't too bad if you study. He treated my class like middle schoolers, he does not let his students leave early. We usually have a 14 minute break in the middle of class. He takes roll at the start and end of the class.

Dr. Bennett is amazing. In my opinion the best THRS teacher at the school. Lectures are interesting, and tests are straightforward. I do wish he wouldn't treat students like high-schoolers...

Professor Bennett is awesome. He makes class really interesting and funny, and I was never bored in class. (I'm not even religious.) The only downside is that he treats us like high schoolers; we can't have phones or laptops out, and we can't leave to use the bathroom unless it's during break (I'm in the 3-hr long class). TAKE HIM! :)

Typical lecture class. Pretty good teacher. No complaints. His weekly quizzes were easy A's. If you take notes and skim the readings and handouts, there is no reason to get below a B on exams. No, he doesn't make study guides, say exactly what's on a test, or hold your hand through class: this is college. Write notes, review, regurgitate.

One of the best professors I've taken. All the negative reviews are completely wrong about him. Yes, he doesn't give study guides but he covers everything you need to know in class, so take good notes and you'll be fine. One of the nicest professors here and if you give him respect, he will be nicer to you. Easy to understand and very clear.

The only reason people write bad reviews is because they automatically hate the religious courses. This class was honestly super clear and easy. He is an awesome person over all and I would love to take any of his courses. He is so intelligent and passionate.

Here's how to do well in this class...Take great notes and listen. Write down everything that he says. You have to read the bible for the quizzes, but for the tests reviewing your notes will do you fine. I prepared for the tests by referring to the bible..huge mistake. Bible for quizzes, notes for tests.

Please don't let all of the negative reviews on here dissuade you from taking Prof Bennett -- he's amazing! Yes, his tests are difficult and there is a large amount of reading, but he makes it so worth it. He is so passionate about what he's teaching that I was passionate about what I was learning (and I'm the most non-religious person ever)!

He's challenging, but very clear and you learn a lot. His lectures are interesting and the tests are manageable if you take detailed notes and study a lot.

I really enjoyed his lectures. Very unbiased (though he's obviously Catholic), and had a good answer to every question he was asked. You don't have to love Jesus to love his class, just be interested in learning about the history behind the bible and biblical stories. Tests can be specific but are by no means impossible.

Honestly one of the best teachers I have ever had. He helped me turn my life around. I had some misfortunes in my life and he really helped me out of a dark hole. I seriously recommend him!

Peter Bennett is SO awesome! I definitely learned more than I ever expected from his lectures. This is an easy class to pass if you go to all the lectures and read the assignments. He doesn't throw any curveballs on the test. I recommend him for Biblical Studies. He is very passionate and funny. One of my favorites at USD.

BEST TEACHER EVER

reading quiz on lots of material every week and they count so don't slack on them. Lectures every class, pretty interesting you can tell he cares about the subject. Few things are graded but they really count so you need to try on everything to get an A but it's possible if you put in the effort.

Prof. Bennett is my favorite professor at USD! I took him for both lower and upper division requirements. His lectures are amazing, and he welcomes any question in class. There is a significant amount of reading, and he expects students to work, but he is very reasonable. He was recommended by a friend and I always recommend him to others!

Really good prof. and not that hard. Come to class and take notes. Very knowledgeable and clear in his lectures. Fair grader. He is inspiring to listen too as well! I would definitely take him again.

Such a sweet Professor. He really cares about his students and wants you to do well. If you do the reading and participate in class you will do well in his class. Material is easy to understand because he engages the class in discussion that is relatable to everyone.

Professor Bennett is honestly one of my favorite teachers at USD. He is so passionate about theology and knows his info. He is extremely kind and is always willing to help a student whenever they need it. You have to do the readings, but the class is easy if you read. Definitely recommend this class.

Professor Bennet is a good enough professor, but I think that he tends to make the class, which is 100 level, more like a 200 or 300 level class. Other than that, you will be reading a lot for this class, which isn't too hard if you read and pay attention in class. He does care very much about this class, and doesn't have extra credit for it.

He's a great professor and really takes time to connect with each student. He's open to all questions and follows the flow of class discussions which a nice break from typical heavy lecture based classes. As long as you do the readings and pay attention in class you'll do well.

Took his Good, Evil, and Original Justice class. My man Big Pete is a total legend. Knows the material really well. Encourages discussion and questions. Not a very tough class. I learned a lot. Really nice guy. I can only give the highest accolades to the LEGEND Big Pete. One might even call Big Pete, Big Rock.

Prof. Bennett is AMAZING! Super caring and thoughtful guy. His class has been one of my favorites because they are quite interesting and really make you think beyond the classroom. Lots of reading, and participation/attendance is mandatory but if you show up and pay attention, you'll do fine. Class is discussion based and some group/partner work.

Prof. Bennett is very friendly and approachable. A very nice person which makes him intriguing to listen to and respect. Take really good notes and do the readings promptly. The readings play a big part in the class and must be completed on time to do well on the quizzes.

Prof Bennett is a great prof and is very respectful to everyone within the classroom. He cares a lot about the classroom environment i.e. pay attention and get off your cell phone. Studying was kind of a pain between him want to engage, but also trying to take notes for the class. However, he does give study guides and the test aren't to hard.

I LOVE PROF. BENNETT!!! He's one of the best professors I've had so far! I don't know how he could possibly have a rating below 5. His lectures were so interesting and I left a lot of his classes feeling super enlightened. He cares a lot about his students and is super willing to help. His tests/quizzes are doable if you study & read the material.

He is extremely passionate about what he teaches and expects students to also share his passion. He is a nice man that loves if you participate in class (which is absolutely necessary). There is a lot of required readings and the quizzes can be hard since they are short and very specific. Overall I enjoyed the class and learned a lot.

Professor Bennett is a very nice person as well as a good professor. He has a strict no-phone policy but is very kind otherwise. There is definitely a lot of reading in this class, but he gives pretty broad prompts for the pop quizzes. The midterm and final can be difficult, but the study guide prepares you well.

PROF BENNY IS AMAZING! Hands down my favorite professor so far. He is caring, inspirational, and passionate about his job. We have quizzes about every week, but do the readings and you should be fine.

Prof Bennett is a solid professor. People that say he's hard don't give his class the effort of any other class. I'm not religious and I got a 99 in this class. Just do the reading he gives and listen to his lectures and THAT'S IT. There's no big secret. No surprises. He tells you what he wants to know on the study guides for midterm and final!

Big Pete is hands down one of the best Professors I have ever had. I loved his class and am even taking my other theology courses with him as well. He is so funny and kind and really cares about his students. The material is dense at times but he helps you through it and is realistic about work load and deadlines, always willing to work with you.

I was really unsure about Prof Bennett because I'm an atheist and he's clearly religious but his class was really engaging and informative. He answers questions fairly that critique Catholicism. No surprises. If you do the reading and take notes in class it's definitely an easy A. But like most classes, if you do the work it'll work out well!

Dr. Bennett is a sweet man who simplifies complex theological concepts. He made intercession bearable and enhanced my learning experience. He consistently asks if there are any clarifications he can make throughout his lectures and is open to challenging Christian perspectives. I would def take more classes with him. Just make sure to read!

This is definitely one of the best upper div theology classes at USD. Although sometimes a lot of work and long and jam-packed lectures, the content is interesting and Professor Bennett is really nice.

He is a good professor- everything is lecture-based and reading-based. He assigned two essays throughout the semester, and as long as you consistently show up to class and take notes, this class will be right for you. He is very friendly and I would recommend him.

TAKE THIS MAN! He is a great professor. The class is very straight forward and structured. Its mostly lecture based. You have to talk a lot in his class and I highly recommend doing so because he will like you more. If you put in the work he will help you!! Get on his good side and he will grade you easier.

However I did struggle in the begining of the course since I didn't grow up catholic it was hard catching up everyone else in the class.His quizzes are hard to make sure to study for them,Fun in class discussions and Beware of cold calling.

Prof. Bennett is a super interesting and nice guy, however there is a lot of reading and the reading quizzes are difficult. Be ready to do take in-depth notes on the readings and lots of time studying the material.

strict no technology class so beware. you have to buy 4 books and a bible. reading quizzes every week worth 8 points and if you do well they bump up your grade. the study guides he gives are 2 pg long for the midterm and final, and they are completely online. if he doesnt like you he will call on you in class if he sees youre not paying attention.

I loved Professor Bennett, truly one of the kindest people I have met. His class does require a lot of reading, and participating helps so much. A lot of my peers said the class was really hard but I think that's because they didn't read and didn't pay attention in class. It is very possible to get an A. The topics were super interesting!

class is super engaging if you like participating in class! prof bennett is super nice and a great lecturer. however, is an extremely hard grader and not too much class assignments to bump up your grade. dependent on small weekly quizzes from dense readings, papers, and midterms. also not great answering questions lol.

This will be a difficult class for you if you aren't familiar with Christianity or went to catholic school. For the midterm we had to study 60 terms and be able to explain all of them in great detail to show your understanding. The coursework is a bit intense for a lower-division class. He is very nice, but I would not take his class again.

Professor Bennett has to be one of my favorite professors. His lectures are half discussion style and they're very engaging. Be warned, this class has readings due most days the class is in session. There's a quiz almost every week but they're only 8 multiple choice questions long. Participate in discussions to get the most out of the class!

Loved P-rof Bennett as a person. He's definitely a harder professor (esp for a 100 level core class) and self study is important. He assigns a reasonable amount of readings & quizzes every Wednesday. His exams are free responses and essays. It might be hard to get an A if you aren't the best test taker and can't keep up with the readings

Professor Bennett is a genuinely kind guy who truly wants you to succeed. He lights up when students do well. The class is very discussion based, and you really have to be involved. He'll call on you often to share your thoughts. Grading isn't necessarily harsh but is confusing. To succeed, do the reading, go to office hours, and keep an open mind

Really good religion professor, easy grader, and super understanding. He's super respectful no matter where you are in your faith journey or what your spiritual background is. You have to do to the weekly reading for the quiz but its not a lot. You just have to put some effort which i guess some people don't like to do. Take him if you can!!!

Best lecturer I've had so far at USD. He is a pro which means he teaches the right way, but also does mean that he expects a lot. Work hard in this class and you will learn and be rewarded. Don't work hard and you will fail.
