Pete strays from the syllabus in the most refreshing way. He involves the class in the topic and tries, usually succeeding, in relating abstract concepts to real world examples pulled from current conflicts/news subjects. I looked forward to class and even when I made a fool of myself, he would often find a grain of insight in my answer
Great professor, he wasn't there to hold anyone's hand, or to beat the classics into student's brains. The point seemed to be to use the socratic method to deconstruct current Soc & Politcal events. We who worked hard and engaged in discussion got the most out of the class, those who were easily offended or didn't come to class cheated themselves.
No easy A from Boghossian, above post sounds like sour grapes. I've taken two classes from this guy, and he's no joke. I don't agree with everything he says, but his presentations are timely, useful, and interesting. He seems very fair, but keeps it real. 100 points for attendance, 100 points for a paper, 100 points for the exam.
Best Professor I have ever had in 3 years of college period. He is informative, creative, fun,& non-judgemental.He always goes out of his way for his students in all aspects. He teaches with a love& enthusiasm that can't be matched.Students learn new ways of critical thinking,& he opens minds to new possibilities.I can't state enough how great he is

I thought he was great. Made things clear. Helpful. Seems like a nice guy who cared. Im taking another class from him now. (I must be stoopid. He gave me a C-).
Best prof here. No question about it. Smart, funny, professional, engaging. LOVED his class.
Excellent teacher.Entusiastic. Really like his teaching style and storys. Would take another class with him again.
By far my most entertaining class at PSU.. I thought he was great, he really made me think. But he's not politically correct. I enjoyed the open way that we engaged the ideas. Sometimes his energy level and passion was so high it was shocking.
In all honesty I don?t think I?m going to get a great grade in his class, but it was totally worth it. He is a master in ethical reasoning and can break apart your core values packing peanuts. He is grand champ at critical thinking and challenging people?s beliefs. He?s really intense, so consider yourself warned. Take Him! You wont regret it!
He is passionate, caring, brilliant and totally full of****. I don't know what I think of him anymore. If you want a class where you have the opportunity to fully explain and craft your ideas then this is not for you. If you want to yell back and forth and yell "FUCK" in class then go for it.
What an INTENSE class. Prof Pete wants you to think on your feet, and sometimes calls on you unexpectedly. He mercilessly challenged dogma and ideology on the right & the left. Doesn't pull any punches. Never a dull moment. Class is not for everyone though. If you don't want your morals challenged, he is NOT the prof for you.
Excellent, excellent, excellent. He has a creepy knack exposing untrue moral beliefs. He'll take a solid belief structure, toss is down like a house of cards, and then sledgehammer the rubble. I thrived on it. A welcome change of pace from my monotonous phil classes. Take Boghossian and Hill at the same time.
By far, THE best professor I've ever had. Introduced me to an entirely new world of thought. Such a smart guy and really got me engaged in critical thought. I really thank him for beginning my education.
He taught me how to think.
Great teacher, great person, great class. If more professors were like him my education might have actually meant something.
If I could absorb the knowledge and intellect of one person, it would be Boghossian. Crazy sharp with a stunning scope and breadth of knowledge. Fantastic class and teacher. Other reviews are right on, I?d add this: If you don?t want your beliefs to get shredded, just don?t claim to hold them with certainty.
Pete is very funny, and extremely intelligent. He knows his subject matter, and teaches is very well. He's really accommodating if you have problems coming to class, or with exams. He's not easy, but he's not hard either; he challenges your critical thinking skills, and that's something all professors should do. His ethics courses are great.
Best teacher and best class I have taken so far in 3 years of college. He completely made me re-think the way I look at everything, and taught me to not take things at face value. He is an incredible, smart, funny, energetic and passionate teacher. I value everything I learned from him and would take any class from him again in a heartbeat.
Clear; Interesting and interested; Not afraid of controversy; Treats students with dignity, respect and compassion; Surprisingly knowledgeable about popular culture; Wants you to succeed and do well; Needs to work on his sense of fashion.
Great class, can't really say much that the existing comments don't already. Pete is extremely engaging, eager to engage in debate on almost any issue, and treats students with respect. Even if you are not a PHL major, his courses are well worth your time. Unless you're just in school to warm a chair.
Great Professor, lots of Science Fiction references.
Excellent teacher, moderate difficulty
Great teacher very passionate about philosophy and critical thinking. Class is exciting and his teaching style makes you want to go to class. If you believe in crazy stuff prepare to have your beliefs unraveled by reasoning. Highly recommend for all majors.
Great instructor. His class is always fun, and his demonstrations are hilarious. Best critical thinking class too take and he grades very fair. If your a bible-thumper or believe other crazy stuff prepare to have your world crushed by reason.
Engaging. One timethis guy in class argued that you should be able to get a license photo if you?re wearing a burka. Pete engaged him for 15 minutes w/o interrupting. He really listened. Then he systematically deconstructed the idea AND explained exactly how he was doing it. It just blew me away. It was my most instructive college moment ever.
Pete is just a great guy. Such a good teacher and so humble. I was amazed when he told the class "I'm one of the least intelligent people in the phil department". A stark contrast to many of the other arrogant know-it-alls.
Wants you to think and teaches you how. His heroes: Dawkins, Habermas, James Randy, Dennett, Pinker, Hitchens, Socrates, Darwin, D. Davidson, Wittgenstein. His hitlist: Postmodernism, pseudoscience, religion, superstition, mysticism, fascism/totalitarianism, Sarah Palin. ?This class will give you an opportunity to live a life free of illusion
Extra Credit! Great instructor, interesting lectures and critical thinking exercises.
underrated
Pete will make you think and if you allow him, he will warp your mind because you start looking at things in a very different light.
I never had a teacher more dedicated to finding the truth but less certain he possessed it. A genuinely challenging and enlightening experience. I enjoyed nearly every moment of this class, especially the critical thinking and the futurism.
Great teacher, highly engaging and cares about his students learning. Cheap/free textbooks, mid-term/final essay test based class.
Awesome tearcher. DO NOT go in with ANY preconcieved notions.
One of the best instructors at PSU in my opinion. He is an amazing guy all-around. The grade for the class is based on attendance plus two essays exams (a midterm and final). I was disappointed with the grade I got in the class since I attended every class, read the entire textbook, and studied but still think the class was worth it.
He's a great teacher. I would highly reccommend taking any class from him. I took computer ethics with him and although he made a lot of sci-fi references which I didn't understand I still managed to get a good grade in the class and walk away with a greater knowledge than when I walked in. Taking his critical thinking class winter term.
Two essay tests, brief presentaiton, attendance. Wasn't just a class, was an life experience. Taught different ways to think and how to look at reality. He's funny and speaks his mind, he called the taliban delusional stoneage religious maniacs.
I did not enjoy this class- (KRU). He taught one perspective all term, and it was clear that he thought those who differed just "didn't get it" or were "misunderstood about life". He has a passion for teaching, and he wants everyone to learn, but he is too one-sided. He's also very loud and in your face.
Pete is an awesome professor. He teaches you how to think, not what to think. His grading criteria is very straightforward--a midterm, final, and a short presentation. I totally recommend taking a class with this guy.
Pete is one of the best professors I have ever had! He is enthusiastic, interesting, sincere and really cares about teaching. If your degree is in the sciences, his critical thinking class is exactly what you need.
Most likely the best instructor I've ever had at PSU. I'm unsure how the 'easiness' is rated at a 2.6? As long as you attend class the exams are really cake and a B is easily earned without studying. Pete is incredibly helpful in office hours so definitely visit him, even if you just feeling like chatting.
Should be a required class and Pete should be required to teach it. He's bold, honest, dedicated, and doesn't care if he's the smartest guy in the room or not. Thanks Pete.
A damn fine professor. Everything you you get out of a course, Fun smart lectures, multimedia presentations, he incorporates internet views and webpages as homework assignments. A humble, smart, dedicated prof. His critical teaching course should be required for a well-rounded education.
What Professor Boghossian teaches you is a reason why you should get a college education.
If you can get over his homeless look, best prof around. Half of the essay questions come directly from lecture. This is a man on a mission people. Take his classes and let him shred reality for you. Not for the faint of heart.
If you attend class and listen to the lectures (which are VERY engaging), you'll do just fine. One of the best professors I have had. Attendance is 25% of your grade, so seriously, just go, you'll learn so much, too. I constantly came home with things to talk about from this class.
Very engaging/thought provoking professor, doesn't mindlessly read from text. Engages his students, will listen and have thoughtful discussions,No tricks up his sleeves come test time, what he lectures on is what you are tested on. Highly recommended, the course is challenging, attendance is vital. But attendance is also worth 25% of final grade.
The best of the best. He changed the way I live in the world.
Had him for Critical Thinking. Impactful conversations and presentions everyday. Class went by fast :) In order to do well in the class, dont skip(mk sur 2 sign in),bring ness materials to tests, and come w/an open mind.He is very open to others opinions, so share away :) I think hes cute too.
Loved the class, found the material to be relevant. It's was a pleasure to be taught by someone who truly loves the subject and made me love it too.
Professors like Mr. Boghossian reinforce why I am spending my hard won money on education just now--I am not just learning ONE time about ONE thing. This class has taught me how to think ABOUT LEARNING AND EDUCATION and therefore has empowered me to embark on a lifetime of knowledge and discovery. Give him a RAISE (maybe he will buy a blazer!)
Pete is a very passionate and engaging teacher. His class is a little disorganized--he often mentions things he promises to get to later, then he doesn't--but the lectures are usually entertaining and stimulating. The tests are easy if you read the book and attend lectures, and attendance is a huge portion of the grade, so make sure to show up.
Pete is one of the most passionate professors I have ever met. To say that his classes are great is a severe understatement: the man will teach you how to think. His material is relevant in your everyday life for the rest of you life. Not only will your education benefit from his classes, but so will your understanding of the world. Take his class.
inspiration to learn is a man, and its pete.
Pete is a seriously great professor. He kept me interested the entire time and forced me to think about things I had never thought about before. He initiated class discussions and seriously encouraged participation. I also loved how he wasn't afraid to discuss potentially contentious topics. He is funny and keeps you entertained. Great professor!
Before I joined pete's universities studies course I thought that psychology and philosophy would bore me. I figured I had a good understanding of both just through my own self study. However this course has taken me so far beyond where I started just a few months ago. His teaching has invigorated my interest to continue with the KRU cluster.
Non-standard book. Way too much reading for little value. High energy, keeps class engaged.
Great professor, changed my life for the better. Take these classes!
Great guy, super fascinating, original content, great speaker.
Awesome Prof, will definitely take more classes from him.
Excellent prof and course information. Presents ideas and information necessary for life allowing you to re-evaluate the thinking processes you use to function in the world. Love it!
My favorite proessor. I'm taking everything he teaches. Pete does his best to eliminate the need for a textbook. Come to class, engage, and you'll get an A. Super funny, clever and a great speaker.
He is extremely passionate and knowledgeable in the subjects he specializes in (Critical Thinking mostly), but he clearly puts a lot of thought and effort into everything he teaches. He can get bogged down in lectures if some students really aren't getting it, but it's an acceptable trade-off for his mind-blowingly clear, concise, and open style.
Dr. Boghossian was a very interesting and enthusiastic instructor. Much of the time was spent in group discussion, and he did a great job of keeping the discussion flowing and on topic.
I love the class. Was surprised at how interesting and fun someone could make Computer Ethics. By far my most favorite teacher I have ever had.
Best teacher I have had at PSU. He is brutally honest and open. Cheap book options for class too!
Passionate, engaging, fascinating
A little scatterbrained for my Atheism course, but funny, engaging, and passionate. It was the first time the class was offered and he acknowledged he assigned too much. He quickly dropped a bunch of it for us. Very Reasonable.
Pete is totally awesome. You'll want to hang out with him and ask him questions for hours. Endlessly interesting and interested. A great guy.
This wasn't at all what I expected, but after nearly 40 years of casual philosophical discussion with friends/family, my mind was completely blown - in a wonderful way. PSU is lucky to have such a professor who so actively and passionately pursues his subject even in his own time. He lives this life and thus has more to offer his students.
Life changing!
Pete's classes has profoundly changed the way I interact with people and the way I look at the world! I would strongly recommend any class you get the opportunity to take from him!!
I have taken multiple classes with Dr. Boghossian, and I have noticed a major decline in his teaching quality this term. He loses track of what he is talking about, he doesn't give students real opportunity to debate "openly" with him (at least not in a respectful way), and his teaching assistant writes the exams and does the grading...
He's a good guy. He tries to explain things until it is clear and always makes sure everyone understands the questions presented. I would recommend him if you're taking a Sinq or Cluster class.
Pete is really approachable and wants his students to take away as much as possible from each class. Expect to be challenged in surprising ways.
Life-changing! Prepare to be challenged! Pete is a great professor. I have taken many classes with him and in all of those classes he was engaging, helpful and passionate. He made sure that all of his students understood what he was saying and encouraged students to challenge him. I *highly* recommend people take any of his classes.
Remarkably energetic and engaged. Kind. Generous. Keeps understanding of tech and social issues *VERY* current. Enthusiastically accepts critical thought, *especially* when pointed at himself. Not likely to make religious people comfortable. Forgets to bring own markers to class. Regrettably easy, at least at the 300 level.
Brilliant, dynamic, inspiring, and sexy. Provides all course materials online or via USB transfer so that you don't have to buy a textbook. Take this class if you want to challenge your views of what is true and real, or learn more about how to discern science from quackery.
Dr. Boghossian's teaching method is engaging, informative, and salient. He offers top-notch philosophy classes including Critical Thinking, Science & Pseudoscience, and Atheism, and I would go home each day telling my friends and family what was discussed and analyzed in class. Also valuable are the guest speakers who he often invites to class.
He is without a doubt, one of the rudest professors I've ever had. Talked down to others who had a differing opinion, and when students pointed out that some of the things he said/believed were wrong, he refused to admit it or apologize. I don't understand how he can be teacher a computer ethics class if he doesn't think cyber bullying exists!
The most intellectually stimulating professor I've had yet by far, especially for a university studies class- none of that "UNST goals" crap. His lectures were realistic, challenging and fascinating. He is not afraid to offend or call people out. Boghossian will challenge your beliefs, but he obviously cares about his students.
Peter was by far not only the best university studies professor I have had so far, but also one of the best professors I have had at PSU! He's funny, energetic, and his lectures are engaging. His first midterm is open note and the second is a take home final based on the Moral Landscape readings and discussions in class. Highly recommended!
Really cool and honest professor and the examples help a lot with understanding the material
This was the second class that I have taken with Peter, and really enjoyed it. He is a little full of himself, and some of the class feels repetitive, but when there is new info, it's very profound and worth wading through. I will say, that taking multiple classes with him has made me suffer through the same jokes from the prior term. Overall great
Personable and easy-going. Always open to questions and willing to change his mind. Fair grader. Challenging material - not for everyone.
This class will make you think. If you are uncomfortable questioning your beliefs or are easily offended, I wouldn't recommend this class. Peter presents the material with humor and is obviously passionate about the subject. I enjoyed his lectures.
Great class. Interesting subject matter, which he is super passionate about. Class attendance is mandatory (about 25% of the grade). Only other graded items are the mid term and final, both of which can be easy, depending on how hard a grader the TA is. My only con is that he lets the students talk for way to long, and it gets uncomfortable.
Great professor, I highly recommend you take at least one class of his. He is incredibly passionate and open with students.
Hands down the best professor I've ever had. Pete is passionate, clear, and extremely sincere. He will challenge your beliefs and make you rethink everything you thought you knew. Plus, he's funny and hot to boot. Don't leave PSU without taking a class from him.
He is a wonderful professor. He's very open and honesty with students, and challenges them to evaluate their own boundaries and beliefs. I highly recommend him. He also had wonderful guess speakers.
Awesome class and professor. Final grade was 2 exams and attendance. I aced both exams, it's critical thinking (not hard). Readwatch the materialvideos and go to class. I missed a lot of classes so my grade was a B, otherwise i'd have an A. The lectures were awesome and I was really upset when I missed his class. $5 textbook, YES PLEASE!
Peter makes you think and challenges your beliefs more so than any professor I've ever had. Entertaining lectures, encourages participation but doesn't force it. Only attendancemid-termfinal, easy if you at least skim every reading. No book is a bonus, syllabus intimidating at first. Easily one of the best professors I've had at PSU.
Hands down my favorite professor I have ever taken. I plan on taking all of his classes.
Hands down my favorite professor I have ever taken. I plan on taking all of his classes. If you don't hear "Bullsh*t" at least 10 times a class, you aren't in Peter's class.
Don't let the easiness of the class deceive you - the learning and enlightenment one gets from simply listening to this man talk and reason compensates for any other class out there pertaining to this subject. You WILL change the way you think about everything, for the better. Boghossian and Bettridge are two professors I will never forget.
The business ethics final was in essay format about 13 pages long. If you are great at bsing and can write in length then you will breeze through this class. Also make sure to attend every class.
Amazing lecturer, he opened with magic tricks and it was a great hook. Difficult subject to wrap your head around so read and watch everything, it's pretty entertaining stuff. Come with an open mind and don't be afraid to ask questions, it is a difficult subject to put into your own words on exams. All his stuff is in Dropbox online and Youtube.
Not much to say about this instructor, he's simply amazing. 2 tests that were somewhat easy. Its what I learned from this class that is amazing. Very good speaker, great insight and he lets students discuss things in class that are relevant with relevant answers. HIGHLY recommend this instructor. Listen to the knowledge bombs he drops.
This guy is fantastic. His lectures are beyond interesting, thought-provoking, and intelligent. He brings up controversial subjects and encourages people to think critically about them, so easily triggered students stay clear. There's no homework. Just attendance and tests. If you just show up and don't take notes, you could easily get a B.
I wish I could take all of Boghossian's classes. Atheism was great: informative and entertaining lectures and videos, only mid-term and final (no homework!), inexpensive text book (that he wrote) that fully complemented the class. The time flew by every class. As he says, the whole class is a 'trigger warning'. I highly recommend this professor.
It's an ethics class and he's not afraid to speak about the truth surrounding ethics and that's what most professors lack nowadays. The point is to educate the students and he does that. It's an easy class that will make you think and he'll challenge your beliefs. Although I wish he could be more consistent in his beliefs.
Come to any of his classes to hear thought provoking lectures and amazing guest speakers- even the general class discussions that arise organically are wonderful; he is fair, respectful, and gives everyone a voice.
Great lectures. A bit tangential, but really interesting, and he always tries to come back to his point. Very open for student questions (a little too open sometimes). Doesn't answer email or his office phone. If you want to talk to him instead of TA, go to office hours. Very well read. Sensitive subject matter. Expect to have values challenged.
Hes a really good teacher. He really makes you open up your beliefs and tells you why he thinks what he thinks. tests are straightforward. You can only email his T.A. which I find is annoying. His lectures are amazing I wish he could talk to the whole world about his ideas. You should definitely take his class! you wont regret it. Only 2 tests.
Hands down one of the best class you can take at PSU. He's also one of the most genuine, inspiring, and knowledge enriched professor that I've had. His Critical Thinking class will make you challenge your beliefs, become aware logical fallacies around you, and will change your mind about how you think of the modern society. DEF would take again.
There's a reason why when a class of over 50 people could skip but most of them still show up to class. His lectures are truly inspiring and thought-provoking, his ideas will entertain you and lead you to focus attentively without having to force yourself to "stay awake". He CT class will make you open up your mind and challenge your own beliefs.
Great class, great lectures, and great discussions. One of the best professors at PSU-- take his courses while you can!
Peter was very knowledgeable and into this subject. As I did learn I would say of you don't go to class you wont learn. His midterm and final does not come solely from the readings and videos. He could say something in class and it be on the exam. Id take him again but only if I had a light load.
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD!!!! He is astoundingly transparent and and honest with all of the knowledge he shares. He teaches with his heart and with his head and I would take every course he offers if I could.
I truly respect this professor and he is among the few at PSU who cares. Boghossian is transparent, honest, and is down to earth with his students. Unlike 98 percent of those who teach philosophy at PSU, he wants you to question authority. Because of this, I cannot reccomend him enough.
Peter is one of the best professors I've had at PSU. His lectures are incredibly engaging. Attendance is taken, so it affects your grade if you skip class, but his lectures are awesome. Grade is based on 2 exams and attendance. His tests are pretty straightforward, typically a couple essay questions and multiple choice. Extra credit is offered.
Peter is incredible at breaking down complex graduate level concepts and explaining them in a way that anyone could understand. His tests reflect what is learned in class and what is learned in class is helpful in understanding how to think critically and filter the fallacies out of your life.
His lectures bore me to death. He's always going on rants and goes off topic frequently. He doesn't provide a lot of opportunities for a balanced grade. You can't mess up in this class or you'll get a bad grade. Thankfully, I've paid attention and done well on exams. He sometimes has guest lecturers when he's off in LA to be on the radio. Annoying.
If you're a radical leftist, it is vital to take a class with this professor. He will teach you how to dissect your own beliefs and determine if they're true. He is a bit intense and offensive at times, but not to the point where it's emotionally damaging - it's a cathartic offensiveness that will help you question your grasp on "reality." Vital.
the first professor I have ever just gone to his office hours just to sit and chat. amazing prof. interesting person, and not a radical leftist. I cannot be anymore excited that I found him even though his classes are not a part of my major I will take all the classes with him I can.
The best professor I've gotten to work with @PSU. Doesn't tell you what to think, he guides you on *how* to think. Class discussions are incredibly deep, relaxed and engaging. Workload was minimal, he just wants to make sure you're thinking about the material critically. Very sad that he'll probably move on before I can take another class with him.
Peter is an excellent human. I highly recommend taking this class! I personally am a bit of a social justice warrior and am very liberal, queer, and feminist, and I really appreciate what Peter is bringing to the table. It is unfortunate that he has been painted as a villain - he isn't. If you really listen to him, you'll see he is on your side.
Boghossian is a great professor and one of the few teachers that respects other opinions and viewpoints that stray away from the liberal views. For 5 stars, it would have been helpful to have more assignments to get points rather just 2 total tests (midterm and final). Attendance was not taken or required however to do well, attendance is key.
Pete is a wonderful professor. I definitely would take him again!
Dr. Boghossian is a great lecturer, probably the best I've had so far in any college. He is happy to debate but can be a little intense for some. He has obviously strong opinions. He is transparent and has never been disrespectful about any student's views. Very test-heavy, with no homework. Manage your time well when writing essays during tests.
Very personable, the lectures were always fascinating, and we had several great guest speakers. The only downside is that his real passion these days is anti-wokeness, and it seeped into most lectures in the form of mini-rants. He coined the term "Street Epistemology" but doesn't seem to use its fundamentals much.
Peter is one of the coolest teachers I have had. I think his critical thinking class could be one of the most helpful classes I will take in my college experience. He really knows his stuff and is open to discussion during class.
This was a great class that was very low stress but also very informative and eye-opening. This was an online class, with attendance to the Zoom lectures being optional. No midterm or final exam, just a weekly quiz on the readings and/or videos that I found easy to ace as long as I actually paid attention to the content.
Peter offered an absolutely essential professor at PSU--you will not find another prof like him. He critiques what academics are too scared to and offers an insightful and eye-opening perspective on applied postmodernism/critical studies. He is only teaching next term (Spring), so take him while you can! Prepared to be challenged.
You get assigned readings, watch assigned videos and take a quiz each week which is open book, open notes. The quizzes are easy to understand and are 100% able to get full points on. My only regret is that I couldn't study the material more due to my schedule.
I really wish he was still teaching at PSU. Great professor, even if you don't necessarily agree with his personal opinions. He is clear about criteria and gives great lectures. One of the best professors I've ever had! If he teaches again, take his class!!
