Well, apparently he's back at Palomar. So far, a good, clear teacher.
long winded.. uses 30 words when 5 will do. If you know anything about the subject, you will be bored to death in the class. nice guy though. very willing to help.
Great teacher, long winded...but, it makes you learn the material because of his repetition.
Good teacher. Very inteligent. However, he could stand to back off on the descriptions. Repeats, Repeats, Repeats, Repeats, Repeats. Other than that great guy, awesome teacher.
Good prof. Gives study guide and TONS of extra credit. Makes class interesting and his hand out notes make it easy to follow along. With any effort, you'll get at least a B.
Very good teacher! very repeatitive but its a good think! keeps everything in your head so u dont forget! Gives great examples to help you understand material. Hand-out notes cover everything on test. Gives tons of extra credit. Overall great teacher!!!
If you want to learn about Political Science, take Bowman. He is funny and willing to help. He will go over the material enough for all to understand, but his tests are not super easy. You have to study and read the text. He is very unbiased as well.
Boring, hard to lean he only gives packets and reads off of them and goes on and one bout one subject and then you get bored and your lost, no homework, has you buy book and dont use it, but test are hard long study guide for on 15?
The major problem w/Bowman is his screaming Liberalism. He seems to enjoy tormenting conservatives. If you can handle listening to leftist propaganda all day take him. Or if you are confident enough to spar with him take him.
Bowman is great at what he does! He is definiftely very fair! I'm very conservative and I know that he's liberal, but I never felt uncomfortable with sharing my opinions and views in class. He's very encouraging to EVERYONE! If you're conservative, then you know Republican teachers are very rare. You won't find one teaching at Pal, so go w/Bowman!!
Great Professor! Who ever had a problem with his 'liberalism' was just plain wrong. I am a conservative and had ZERO problem with his political stance. He is very fair, and loves his job...and it shows. He wants you to do well and does his best to ensure as much. Palomar needs more like him.
Really great teacher. Gives you note so you know exactly what to expect on the test. Gave lots of extra credit, very easy to get an A.
Besides his lame and undying love for the worst team in baseball -- The Dodger$, this class wasn't half bad. Can't say too much more because he reads this! All-in-all this was a fun class to attend. You won't be sorry if you take this class!
One of the best teachers I have had so far. His test reviews are exactly what is on the test. No Suprises. Fun class to attend. Makes a not so interesting subject fun and tolerable. I actually learned something.
llllliberal... 8 oclock class was impossible to stay awake in no matter how hard i tried, he's a nice guy and means well but reads too much off his notes which he passes out then reads from for entire class. Failed due to attendance, lame. Take limer if you have the ability, he at least makes you want to go to class
i did not learn**** from this class. it was a waste of time, but a great class to sleep in; you wont be embarassed either because half of the class will be sleeping with you. bowman means well, but he is extremely repetitive and his lectures are unnecessary.
Really funny. Bowman give yourself a break. On the inside I always laugh at your jokes.
Bowman is a great lecturer who obviously enjoys his subject. He takes what is is usually a dry and boring subject and makes it a hell of a lot more interesting and relevant. He is also that rare breed of prof who encourages debate and discussion in class. A great prof all around.
i took him for the my 10 o'clock class and we had a ball. we would debate, mess around and joke around. he really loves to help and is a great person. make sure you do the study guides and pay attention to the topics. like 3 assignments and 3 tests. EASY AND OFFERS EXTRA CREDIT! doesnt care for attendance! come and go as you please!
Hilarious. Really animated during lectures (though the first couple lectures you'll be worried because he hasn't warmed up to the class yet. Give him a while). Prepares you well for tests (take time to study) and offers extra credit. Nobody in my class slept so I don't know what that person was talking about.
hes a pretty repetetive guy. If you follow the notes, try to disect them because there is a lot and it is tough to determine what you need to know for the tests. Fun class though.
Good teacher, gives handouts on lecture, gives extra credit. Class is a lecture and you need to pay attention. He can get repetitive but he is energetic and fun. If you study you should get an A.

I would never take this Prof. again. He is extremely unclear with his lectures and scattered. If you already have knowledge in Posc. then you will do fine, but if you don't know much do not take his classes. Overall i would never take him again.
take'm! He's disorganized and sometimes boring but he gives you notes for god sake! He's hyper and goes off topic sometimes but it does not matter because he tells you what is on each...did i mention he gives you notes!!! If you're not totally retarded and you read all the notes he gives, which are 4 seperate handouts, you'll get a good grade.
Bowman what a character!! haha, I enjoyed his class... he is VERY enthusiastic and tries to be funny. I definitely recommend taking him - the class is not hard. 3 homework assignments and 3 tests is all you have to do. He even brought a class breakfast the other day. bowman you're probably reading this so notice that you got a chili pepper!!
Gives you typed notes which is the majority of what the test is on. He gives out extra credit so if you are not good test taker you can still easily pass the class.
He is a good professor. He gives notes on all lectures, test are multiple choice and your pick of 3 essay questions. Weekly discussions boards and a couple of short current event essays. This class is easy if you try. He is very helpful and wants everyone to do well. I got an A in both classes. Very helpful -funny - talks - take him.
Very clear lectures, emphasizes what will be on test, provides notes. Understanding and compassionate instructor with a more than fair grading policy. Gives extra credit opportunities. Excellent teacher for both students students majoring in political science and for those who are not!
If you want a poli sci prof, look no further. Bowman is the best Palomar has to offer. He's incredibly helpful and respects his student. Never have I encountered a professor that is so willing to help his students out. I've switched from an anthropology major to poli sci because of his sheer brilliance.

All around, hes a pretty good teacher. Sometimes he'll stop students on campus to ask if the notes or anything in the text is hard for them to understand. Just don't get him talking. You'll never get out. All in all, not bad at all and that class in interesting.
Bowman RLZ!! Many professors are just wise scholars but Bowman has that something that makes someone a real teacher. He's incredibly helpful, keeps the attention and gives many opportunities for extra credit. If you're looking for a great and nice way to understand politics, Bowman is THE way.
The man is crazy! Lots of energy and fun to class to be in.
bowman is the motherbleepin man i love this guy so much makes poli sci seem like the best class in the entire school. only bad thing is he loves the dodger blue...knew he couldnt be perfect
He is a decent teacher, very intellectual and i love the way he expresses himself. He does go off topic and usually to talk about sports so F.Y.I. he is a Chargers Fan and a Dodgers fan. He cares about his students very much and is extremely entertaining! P.S he's hot! wonder if he's single? He is tall dark and handsome! yum! Ja, ja!
Great teacher! funny and nice, and the tests are pretty good - you don't have to kill yourself for a good grade, but you do have to study. Take this teacher if you want to learn something about political science!
Great approach in teaching. Funny even when he's not. Provides notes and easy to follow study guides. Helpful and available to help. Very knowledgeable. The extra credit opportunities are a plus with this guy. Oh, and cute with nice pecks ;)
great teacher! go to class, pay attention to notes, do the online discussion board, and the do your 3 research papers and you will do great in him class. he makes political science fun and i would take him again!
Wasn't to excited to take Poly Sci, but professor Bowman made it enjoyable, while at the same time I learned allot. Best Poly Sci teacher at the college hands down. When done with class you will not feel like you just ate a S#!T filled twinky. You will enjoy this class.
Nice guy but tests were hard, even with study guides. Miss a few classes and youre screwed. Books were expensive! Not his fault though
great teacher! easy, helpful, nice, also will teach u poly sci!
He teaches you exactly what u need to know for an exam. He gives a lot of extra credit which forces you to learn the material. The only negative thing about him is that he is not very clear and goes off subject a lot. But you will still learn from him as long as stay focused. BTW, he is a comedian also.
this guy is hilarious. he is the best of a lame subject. he cusses in class, quotes south park, and gives answers to the test!
This is a fairly easy class, as long as you take good notes and study the study guide. Some people find him funny, but I wasn't laughing a whole lot.
He tried to be funny. Is not. He know is. That's what makes him funny. Oh and he's a great teacher who cares.
Bowman is the s&%$! He's funny, doesn't take himself too seriously. Gives you plenty of chances for extra credit. Gives you a clear cut study guide for tests. Take Him!
come on people! this guy is not funny and he is EXTREMELY BORING! yes you can get an easy "A" but this guy couldn't keep a tweeker awake. register at your own risk.
Now I know everyone at this college is insane. This class was awful, awful, awful. He's so full of himself and so boring I wanted to shoot myself halfway thru the class! I can't believe people like this guy! He needs to stop trying to be cool and quit cussing and teach. He seemed smart but he's good at disguising it. Avoid avoid avoid
P. Bowman is the best teacher ever! He tries to be funny and he tries so hard that you cant help but laugh. He prints the notes for you which is extremly helpful. I definatly recomend this teacher especially if you like south park and sports :)
know how to write an essay with alot of bulk!
He's not easy. Alot of material to know. But he makes it clear and narrows down what you have to know. Very respectful to all students.
he tries to be funny; very dedicated to the subject, but understands not everyone cares. great teacher!! :D one of my fav at palomar!! :D

Professor Bowman is probably the most enthusiastic prof. I have had in my 3 years. He knows a lot about the subject. I knew nothing, and now know so much. I feel comfortable voting now. I understand politics more. This teacher really cares about the subject, and is very easy going and helpful. Too bad he is a Dodgers fan. Cant have everything.
Bowman is an enthusiastic professor who loves his subject. Highly recommend this class! You will gain an understanding of the political culture in which we live and know how/what you can do to participate in it. LOTS of extra credit offered. Go to as many of the Political Eco day lectures and you'll earn lots of points. 2 Thumbs up professor!!
I took this prof for 110 and 102, extremely enthusiastic and helpful if you need it. offers a lot of extra credit, made me decide to make Poli Sci my major!!
Very good. Creates a lively environment for learning and participation. Really nice guy too.
Bowman classes are boring and slow but if you take good notes and compare them to the online notes the tests will be easy. focus on detail on all tests because they are in essay format and remember to do all online homework it wll make a difference between letter grades
Easy class but boring. Bowman is a cool guy if you stay awake.
Clear, helpful and energetic.
Good guy.. this subject sucks, so that makes it hard on anyone teaching it. But study guides are available for tests.. Pay attention to the study guides
A very good teacher. Gives you the chance to do well. With any effort you pass.
Took him for 101 and 102. Great guy, tries to be funny and fails miserably, which in turn, is usually funny. Make sure you prepare for the tests because they are mainly essays. You don't really need the main text or you could probably use an older edition because he gives a study guide with all the material listed so you can look it up yourself.
Hyper, really clear. Into what he does.
I took his class for 101, which was pretty good. Then I took this class for 102, and wanted to stab myself in the eye. I think the more classes you take with him, the more progressively boring it becomes. But if you're looking for an easy A, I guess it's worth it. Just follow the study guide and show up the day before the test and you've got an A.
I already took him for 101 and am now taking him for 102. The class information itself is not as interesting as 101 was. However, the structure is the same. If you have taken PB for 101 and got the grade you wanted, take him for 102. BTW, go PADRES!!!
Bowman is a great professor! I have been in his class for poli sci 101 and 110. He does not assign a ton of work, and the tests are managable. Don't be afraid to speak up in class and you will do well. However, attending class is very important.
Bowman is a great teacher! He is easy to understand and very helpful.
Are we talking about the same Peter Bowman here? If you are looking for a "fun enthusiastic" prof, stay away from peter. I almost fell asleep in his class every session, he even yelled at me for going to the bathroom once. hes a jerk that plays favorites, and I hear he reads this and tries to compare his comments w/other professors. stay away.
Bowman is not a very good teacher. He is scattered and his lectures tend to jump all over the place. He sometimes cant give coherent answers to questions also. Tests are essay and not too easy. Extra credit is enough to bump you at least a full letter grade if you do it all though and he curves. I got an A but he is by far the worst palomar prof
Awesome teacher although he kind of cuses a lot. He really cares about the subject and wants the students to understand. I got an A. He repeats himself a lot but you will be happy he does. I don't really care for politics but he trys to make it fun. The tests aren't to bad and he gives chances for extra credit. Thumbs up all around.
This prof is eager to please, repeats himself alot in lectures which helps I guess, and gives alot of extra credit. Quirky and nice guy.
Peter Bowman is a bad ass. Take him.
Really great at giving both sides of the issues. Gives exam hints that are very helpful. Also very approachable & gives detailed, clear notes. An overall great professor!
Bowman is an awesome teacher. He is the nicest guy very clear in his lectures. Even if you miss something the notes are on his web site. Gives a lot of chances for extra cred. He is very clear on the positions of both sides and is eager to answer any questions. Take his classes you'll be glad you did.:)
Best Poli Sci prof i have ever had. He is really into it, so it makes the class more enjoyable. You do have to study and take notes, but he gives you multiple oppurtunities to improve your grade. I got an A, highly recommened
An awesome teacher. He is a very passionate teacher, so passionate he tends to get overly excited about topics. If you don't become distracted in class, you should be fine (he's loud enough and entertaining enough to the point where you learn everything). I'd recommend his summer courses, because he tends to be more giving of extra credit.
Very funny hyper. Also clear and fair.
Prof. Bowman is a great teacher! I've taken him for 101, 102 AND 110! He sometimes gets off on a tangent, and he ALWAYS talks to the VERY end of class, but his class is easy and he's big on hints and extra credit. His exams are a few multiple choice questions and 3 essays, but he hints at the essays before hand.
dont take him as your teacher if your really not interested in posc. i had a hard time learning anything in this class and had to study allll the time.
He's fun and he's helpful. You gotta give effort - welcome to college! He's reasonable though.
Bowman is the bomb!! Totally entertaining -- might want to work on the stand-up-comedy -- but totally into his topic and his students. Books are expensive; he's worth it. If you need help, he's there for you. If you want to sleep or act like an idiot, keep out.
nice guy, but a bit long winded at times. only 1 test so far, and didnt feel prepared. sure, he gave precise hints a few days before but w/o it most of the class would have been doomed imo. reading isnt assigned other than "read the book" basically so once you get it just start reading (readings are not assigned). that aside, not a bad class. :)
cool proff. tons of extra credit. for tests: he gives study guide(just like the multiple choice) and he basically gives the exact essay ?'s. he grades the essay ?'s really hard since he gave u the ?'s ahead of time. 3 essays really easy. pretty boring class, and he tries being funny so i give him credit for that. pretty chill proff, i suggest him
One of raters before was wrong. Bowman doesn't just say "do the readings." He does have reading assignments in the syllabus and he remindes us what readings we should be doing with what topic we've covering. He takes some of his exam questions and blackboard questions from the readings. Pretty specific and a very good teacher.
Bowman Is dopeeee......he really makes the class interesting, and if you need help he willgive it to ya. He is funny, he throws in jokes here and there. But overall he is a great prof. ad anyoe taking polysci whould take him. Dodgers BOOOOOOO!!!!! bring snacks to class:)
Nice guy, not so amazing teacher. I took his poli sci 101 class and struggled to stay awake. You'll be annoyed at the sound of his voice by the end of the semester. I got a B instead of an A just because I only did about half of the discussion board assignments (which are due weekly, and are stupid.)
I took Bowman for 101, & 102. His a great teacher, makes coming to class enjoyable. He only gives 3 exams, but gives so much extra credit and tells you what is on the exam, its hard not to ace them all. I had a 103 fever when I took my final in 101 and got an A. If you come to class, do the readings, and the assignments. You'll get an A.
always cussing in class, rude, offensive, too much extra credit u might as well not study and take the test and still pass. his annoying voice would have been tolerable if not for his attitude, no manners at all.
A very good, helpful professor who cares about his job. Yeah, he cusses. Welcome to college and the adult world. He's usually late by 5 minutes (he could improve on that) but he won't hold it against your attendance grade unless your 10 minutes or more late consistently. If you give effort, youll do well.If not then forget this class. Really good.
I took poli-sci 101 and 102 during the summer semester and I don't recommend anyone doing that. Bowman is By far one of the BEST INSTRUCTORs I've had out of the 4 years I have been here. Lots of work he gives you lots of Extra credit but DONT BE FOOLED it's just a way for him to grade your test that much harder. Great professor, Great lecturer.
I had bowman for both 101&102, he is a very fun & easy teacher. I highly recommend taking him, if you go to class & do the study guides you will easily pass. He jokes around a lot & likes to impersonate cartmen from south park!
The class I took with him had hard material. But Bowman made it pretty clear and fun. Very hyper and passionante. Just don't text in class. He doesnt like it. Pay attention.
very helpful, great lectures, and he tells you everything that will be on the exams so you know what to expect. and he's a big south park fan
Great Prof. Lectures most of class. Makes the class fun. Gives study guides. Has a lot of passion teaching this subject. I will take him again for 102. Great Guy. Oh, bring snacks!!
Definately knows what he's talking about..Talks ALOT, but goes off on tangents, whole class is lecture. He offers the notes on website. The study guide and Essay hints on blackboard are very helpful. Class drags on but he is an interesting professor and I would think the best choice for an easy and kind of interesting Political Science class.
Merry xmas Bowman! A good rating is the gift for you. It's deserved. He's clear and flexible and cool. Watch out for tangents and repition, though. You will learn from the repeating. Very good professor, overall.
Don't take Bowman. His voice will make you cringe after listening to only a few of his lectures. He's boring and uninteresting. He requires questions to be answered online once a week. I only did about half of these questions, got A's on all the tests, and had near perfect attendance, and he gave me a B. This guy is not worth your effort.
Terrible, terrible, terrible teacher! If you want to pass, you have to teach yourself everything. Make sure you read and do the weekly discussion board. There is no way to get an A in this class. even the smartest people still get a B.
Bownman is not boring at all. He's very passionate. He always gives examples to everything that is discussed. He also uses current and relevant examples to help students understand the material. He is always open to discussion on the topic at hand. His profanity is very minimal (I've only heard him curse twice - for emphasis lol).
Bowman is a great teacher who loves what he does. His tests are primarily ESSAY format, meaning you will need to respond in 3-5 paragraph answers. COME to class! READ the notes, and you will do very well. He gives a lot of extra credit... And if you bring food to class, he will eat it :-( Sometimes he goes off on tangents, but HE KNOWS whats up
Bowman is one of the youngest Political Science professors I've had, and I think because of that he brings a lot of enthusiasm and energy to his classes. He's a good guy and a good teacher.
Great Teacher, easy tests because he literally tells you what to study for. probably the easiest A. Plus, you remember most of the stuff you'll learn in this class, without really having to study the txt book. A must have for the person overloading on classes and wants that safety "A"
Great teacher & a great class! History & Government has always been a bore but I really enjoyed it this year! Whoever says this class is difficult obviously didn't try very hard. As long as you do the study guide and exam hints its any easy A. He tells you EXACTLY what will be on the test and gives tons of extra credit! Really cool teacher!
A good professor who gives both sides. He will give himself away at times, but will NEVER intimidate you for speaking your mind. Come to class, give effort.
Passionate about teaching, but to a fault. His political bias is obvious, and worse, he is tinged with a limited America-centric view of politics. He reduces every nation and ideology in the world into the left-right political classification, and it doesn't work. Easy A, but if you really want to learn politics, go elsewhere.
I took him for POSC 101 and 102, he is a great teacher! 8am class with him and he was always lively and made the class fun, very funny genuinely nice guy. Had some fun/interesting discussions in that class. You will have to study for this class, but he will give HUGE "hints" about what essay ?'s that will be on the test.
Bowman is really relaxed, and never cancels class. He likes South Park and the Dodgers and always tries to make relevant jokes to liven up the class. He's a stickler for details on your essay tests but will tell you exactly what to study. I took his class for 101 and 102 and even though PoSci isn't my favorite subject, he made it interesting.
A clear teacher. One of the other raters was wrong. Bowman actually says that the left-right spectrum is too limited. He talks about the two dimensional grid in class. Someone's not paying attn.
I took Bowman for 101, 102, and 110 (along with many other students who do the same) and I think he's an amazing teacher. The class is very straightforward and you know what to expect on tests because he TELLS you. Although, you do need to go to class, study, and do the discussion boards to get an A. Bowman's classes are worth taking.
Mr. Bowman is a good teacher. He's serious about his work, even though he's not always 'professional'. He's not always clear, but he's super knowledgeable. Class isn't always fun, or even mandatory, but it's cool to just sit back and listen to someone who's passionate about what he does.
He tends to get behind in the summer class. Gets off on tangents and elaborates a lot. But he's still clear and you can comprehend what he teaches. Ans his lecture notes cover well what he doesn't have time for.
I took him for both 101 and 102. You'll barely need the book, if at all. He tests straight from his lectures and he over explains everything. If you have any questions he's always there to help. He keeps class fun. You don't have* to go to class but you get attendance points. He uses Blackboard and has essay tests. GIVE Detail or you WILL lose out.
I took 101 from him in Summer 2010. A bit rushed, but I learned a lot, even though I was fairly well informed before. Go To Class, he takes note of who comes and cares about the subject. He strives sincerely, prepares extremely well, makes it interesting and accessable. Lots of Hints are given for the Essays, Exams, and all the work he gives.
The material is hard and there's alot of it. But he makes it pretty clear. Very detailed.
Bowman is the man!! He's so silly and funny. He is so passionate. Makes class so fun. Amazing detailed notes full of great info. Lots of extra credit. Great guy, great teacher! Took 2 of his classes, planning on taking more
Terrible teacher, not because he doesnt know anything, but because the class is so impossibly boring I can't stay awake. It takes forever for him to get his point across and he is so completely animated that half the stuff he says sound like the rantings of a lunatic. If you can't follow a teacher with word vomit, don't take him. Nice guy though.
Took Bowman for 101 & 102. Let's be honest, if you didn't get a good grade in his class it's because you were a flat out lazy ass. The tests are straight off the study guide and essay hints so he basically feeds you the answers. Just study and pay attention and you will do well. Not to mention he's an awesome guy & always willing to help you out!!
He's a nice guy, but he repeats himself WAY too much and we stay on the same page of notes for like 4 class days. There are only 3 tests, but to do well you must study the "exam hints" & "study guides" on blackboard. The notes you take in class will NOT help you. Read the book, then come to class for participation points
Great professor. REALLY knows his information. Yes, he does often repeat himself but I know some people who would have failed if he hadn't! He is more than fair and gives plenty of "hints" about what to study and know for the exams. I have really learned alot. Definitely worth taking!
He's very objective and gives both sides. His repitition is good and actually makes you learn the material. Loves what he does. Clear.
POSC 101 He pretty much does 85% of the work for you. With the study guides in essay hints you know exactly what to study. 3 papers worth 5 points each. He repeats himself a lot but repetition is the best way to remember things. Over all solid class.
Such a great teacher. He's very enthusiastic and helps you learn a lot. The repetition is really helpful some people think it's annoying but I'll bet you they can tell you a lot about Political Science. He cracks a lot of cheesy jokes but he knows they're lame which makes it hilarious. He knows what he's talking about I'd recommend him to anyone.
Bow-man is the-man. He lectures(welcome to college) but he is more enthusiastic than any other professor i've had. I will admit sometimes it is hard to stay focused (he repeats himself a lot) but he gives you notes for what is on the test and offers extra credit. Will gladly help anyone that asks and isnt hard on the eyes. ha.
His study guides and lecture and exam hints are what to study for the test. If you dont get an A your lazy. Hes really nice and knows his stuff. Im taking 2 more classes with him. No homework. Great class.
The guy is a screaming liberal with a general dislike of Christians, Conservatives, and Libertarians in general. Most can't tell that he has a bias because most people in the class don't know much about politics at all. If you don't mind being indoctrinated then this class is for you. However, he has a passion for teaching, and is helpful.
I received an A in the class, easy, but the final was a lil hard, no homework. I agree with some of these comments... he is a far left kook. If you want to really learn about politics, go elsewhere.
Bowman's very fair about giving both sides and fair treatment. I'm conservative and I feel very comfortable giving my views. Sure, he makes a smart ass comment here and there, but then he's quick to balance it out. Very clear.
Gracious, likeable, very fair. Ridiculous amount of pricey textbooks. Looks good, smells nice, but this class kicked my ass.
As a liberal, I have to say Bowman isn't the crazy left winger some have made him out to be. He's fairly balanced in his teaching and if you go to every class, take notes, and study a few hours for each test you'll get an A, regardless of your personal political leanings. The few assignments he gives aren't difficult at all.
Bowman is an awesome teacher. He is fair in grading, even though his test scores are subjective because he puts a lot of emphasis on the essay portion. I thought his style of teaching can get a little off topic because he has the tendency to ramble. The discussion boards are easy and the writing assignments are pretty normal (3 pgs with two sources
The teacher did have a strong liberal bias when presenting background information, but then again, most teachers do. I was disappointed in the class because of the lack of classroom participation. Not the right type of class for a good political discussion.
I love this class!! I'm a political science major but i think anyone would enjoy his personality hes always cheery and he uses creative examples to help you understand the subject. His tests are very easy if you study whats on the study guide he pretty much gives you everything that will be on the test (:
Very friendly, gives detailed notes. Most of the grade is the test; as long as you do well on the exams you don't even have to do the homework to pass. By the way, anyone who thinks Bowman has a "leftist bias" is an idiot; Bowman is a liberal centrist who believes in the system as it exists. Actual leftists don't care about the "founding fathers".
One of the best teachers I have ever had. He really wants his students to do well and gives them all the tools to do so. He isn't easy, but he also makes it worth your while to put in extra effort. He is entertaining and I have taken him twice.
loved going to a class where the professor always seeks and enjoys student participation. The test's are not easy, however there is weekly discussion boards where you can often find student imput, and lcture notes that help you understand difficult concepts. He is very easy to get along with, and makes his best effort to help struggling students.
Professor Bowman's love for the class shows. His lectures can go on for some time.. I highly recommend you take notes or AT LEAST pay attention to his "Hints." He does a great job of preparing you for the 3 midterms. Other required assignments include weekly discussion board posts and 3 short papers. I learned a lot and I'm glad I took his class.
Lectures are way too detailed. It's bogged down with excess; it's not concise.
Such a passionate and charismatic fellow. i thoroughly enjoy his lectures - although he does rant with examples, but it truly helps in the long run, not only with a better understanding but a better sense of how much this class is truly relevant in the world. Overall, he is a wonderful guy. Take his class :)
He is an awesome teacher. very fair and not baised. He is passionate and willing to help any student if they have questions . I learned alot through his class and strongly recommend taking him. He is a really good teacher.
He was a great teacher. Made political science interesting when I had no interest in international affairs.
Not a very good teacher. He did not talk about current events nor did he actually teach anything in lecture. I will not take his class again.
The class is not an easy one, but Peter does a good job af warning you of this before hand. Good class and teacher, please take him for all your Polisci needs.
Spends two weeks talking about one page of notes, so annoying. He tries to be funny talking about how not funny he is and it gets really old. He hasn't updated his teaching material in years it seems like. Talks a lot without really saying anything. Boring class, only hard part is trying to stay interested.
at first it was a little bit hard the first test got me but the second test and final A's on them both and every thing else A's.... but overall easy class all you really have to do is study and its alot to study and the reading is alot as well so be prepared to WORK its easy to get a B hard to get an A.
Bowman is a lovely man. He is fun (or at least tries to). Although he sometimes gets off tangent with his lectures, make sure you pay attention to his online notes. He has a study guide for every test and all the essay questions so there's no way to fail to tests. If you ask for help, he's more than willing. LOVE HIM! take his class!
Boring class. This is my major and he made it boring. He spends too much time on one part of notes. His tests are very nit picky. He tries to relate to students but he's a bit in his own world. Over explains concepts to make them sound greater than they are. Offers a bunch of extra credit which is a plus, but still doesn't make the class worth it.
Overall, a great professor. Lectures tend to be a bit boring, but it really helps you prepare for his exams. He really likes what he teaches and does a great job in being, for the most part, unbiased on political issues. He is a liberal, and I've laughed at a couple of his jokes.
first off this professor really cares about his students. He loves his class and cares about their future. Only problem is that his teacher was very hard to understand. He repeats the same thing over and over again. it was very difficult to comprehend. But seriously he cares for his students, I had a 68.19% in the class and he bumped it up to a C.
I was extremely lost in his class. It was hard to follow along and learn from him. And I gave it my all! I would not reccomend him as a professor.
He loves what he teaches. He is able to presents both parties' views objectively even though his anecdotes tend to reveal his political party. There are three writing assignments and weekly discussion board posts, then the three exams with multiple choice and essays during the summer. They're easy with a few hours work/study.
One the Greatest Experiences at San Marcos CA. is being in Professor Bowman's Lectures taking Political Science. Specially being a election year.No he is not easy, you are here to gain KNOWLEDGE, and he Delivers the BEST of. He is extremely helpful, understandable and enrich you, with the GREAT mechanism of our Political System in United States
Great guy. Very very helpful. Tests are tough but very fair, as he prepares you for them well. Go to class, do the (easy) HW, and even some extra credit and you should do well. I hate the subject, but he made it very bearable. I have a lot of respect for him.
He is a great professor, he is super nice and understanding. He keeps me interested in the class. I'm planning on taking his posc102 class, which means that is awesome. He likes cola zero and will probably asked you to buy him one but he will eventually pay you back. Take Bowman :)
Bowman was a great professor. Very engaging lecturer. You will definitely learn a lot. He hands out extra credit liberally. As long as you show up and put in some effort you will pass. Get to know him. He's super open to all different ways of thinking. He won't hold your political views against you so speak up. He likes a good debate.
hes very wiling to work with you. leinient
Personally, I think this class is very reasonable and easy to pass. He gives you a layout of the test material and exact essay questions via blackboard, the tests aren't very long at all/ there's only 3 of them, and he gives plenty of easy extra credit points. PLUS HE'S ADORABLE. I love his south park references. :}
He is very enthusiastic in his lectures. He has a great time lecturing his students. It does get boring and you lose interest if you're not really into politics. He's funny and tries to relate to his students. There are weekly blackboard questions and three current event papers. He gives out extra credit, too.
loved taking from him and excited to take his class next semester! tough material when you arent framiliar with POSC, but he is very helpful and gives out great hints for tests and EXTRA CREDIT!!!!:)
very charismatic, funny, good looking professor. his lectures are interesting. easy class
I thought this class was mind-numbing boring. The material was noob friendly so it was easy to comprehend but I didn't learn anything I didn't know already know from high school. The class was very repetitive such as reviewing same set of notes over and over again. I advocate a different professor if you really want to learn.
My least favorite professor I've had so far. He would repeat himself constantly in lectures and we would spend weeks on something that could take a class or two. Two midterms and a final with a few current events. His grading system is ridiculous and I felt like he didn't prepare us at all for final. Seriously, DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
One of the best professors at Palomar. He's passionate and lively. Gives plenty of chances for extra credit and is willing to work with you and your grade. As long as you show up and stay awake you'll enjoy what he has to offer.Great guy with what seems to be a heart of gold. Only take him if you show up to class and have an interest in politics!
Great professor and adorable. Got me interested in politics. Good guy who cares about his students and makes politics easy. he does repeat himself sometimes but only when he's trying to push a point through. He likes coke zero :)
good guy, lots of extra credit. take him. not an easy A but works with you to get there.
He is a good professor. Lectures are a little boring but it's not his fault. Unless you really enjoy politics the subject is a little dry. He is passionate about what he does. He gives you all the opportunities to earn a good grade. Gives just the perfect amount of outside class work. Would recommend this professor.
It's true lectures are repetitive, but at least he is animated. There's really only so much one can do to make political science interesting. At least he makes an effort. If you utilize all the hints and extra credit he gives then you should get a decent grade no problem. Show up and engage yourself every once in a while and it's cake. Seriously
This class was very enlightening and interesting. Professor Bowman is very dedicated and cares a lot about his subject and his students. He will do anything he can to help you pass and makes the topics in class very easy to understand. If you see him in office hours it really shows him you care and he'll reciprocate the effort. Bowman is awesome!
He was annoying as a professor but his class was easy if you study what is on the study guide. the first two test I got D, F but the last one an A because I studied the study guide a lot. He offers extra credit that helps too and the essays are easy. His tests focus a lot of the essay questions so I would study those really good and try and memori
Awesome professor. Took him for both 101 and 102 and loved both classes. I wasn't interested in politics at all before these classes and now I at least have a semi-interest. He offers a lot of extra credit and the study guides are really helpful. Tests and discussion board posts are easy. I would take him again!
He is very passionate about the field. He's a fairly laid back professor and makes you feel comfortable in class. He does a good job of giving both views on all issues as well as using many forms of teaching, lecture, whiteboard, projector, and videos. He doesn't scrutinize assignments, just gives points for doing them. Really enjoyable professor.
Peter is a great teacher, I did not do well in his class because I did not understand the subject. Politics is not my strong point. Nice person outside of class too and very involved with student clubs on campus. Brings his poli sci knowledge into the meetings. lol
So nice/funny/helpful. STUDY the study guides = pass the class. Start studying early cuz there's a lot of material u need 2 know. READ the chapters! Test material comes from lectures+book. Printable lecture notes + class notes + book + study guides = tests. Him & Dr. Ritt have a love/hate bromance that's really entertaining to watch.
Hands down, the BEST professor at palomar. Just show up, take notes, read the chapters, study the study guides (study the essay hints in detailed, they are the exact same essay questions)and you will end up with an A. there are DB assignments due every week(you have a week do to them, 1 question per week, and there is 3 current events and 3 tests.
great guy
TAKE HIS CLASS!!! Bowman will make political science your favorite class even if you hate politics. Enroll on time.. his classes fill up fast! You really don't need the book if you come to class and print the online notes before hand. HE TELLS YOU what is going to be on each test provided with a study guide! He is super interactive..fun class!
I took AP but it didn't count since I had to take this class for my major. The class is easy if you have any interest in government, but sometimes his tangents go too far and I get tired hearing about his personal life. Cool guy, very popular in his department. Don't take the class if you're looking for an easy A
Bowman likes to lecture. He repeats himself excessively. There are discussion questions on line that are taken from the book. Tests are 15 questions with two essays. There are three short papers. He gives extra credit. As he would say, come to class, do the readings and rewrite your notes and you will be fine.
He is very organized and efficient with his lectures. He also has been teaching this class for 17 years. So he has extensive knowledge of the subject, and talks fast. Be prepared to take lots of notes because the tests are completely lecture based. Besides that everything else in the class is a breeze. The book is needed to do the online quizzes.
Very nice, easy going guy. Not my fav prof though. Spends several weeks going in-depth on certain topics and doesn't cover a lot of other material. Class is fairly easy but I wish I would have learned more.
Terrible class didn't learn much Bowman's a nice guy but not the best teacher material isn't presented in a way that is easy to understand. I'd suggest finding someone else.
If you like having dialogues with your professors, avoid Bowman. Decent otherwise, sticks closely to the material.
Pretty good teacher.
Clear enough. Energetic.
Bowman is unclear and laser focused on content that is irrivellent on his tests. His lectures are less than half of his tests. Don't learn much, and class was kind of boring. Attedence is required so show up and be bored (dont text) and get your 5%.
Professor Bowman is a pretty cool teacher and his class is easy. Lectures are boring but attendance is mandatory. Only work are the essays that are 3 in the semester and exams are pretty easy if you study the study guide he gives. Took him for 101 and 102
Professor Bowman is clear to explain what will be on his tests and how to write the three current event papers. Tests are mostly lecture based. However he does monologue which leads to the class getting behind schedule. When this happens you must have the book because you have no lectures notes to study.
Repeats himself a lot. Can get on tangents. But you end up learning thw mterial. Lively class.
Awesome prof! Easy to follow, helpful, interesting, and so forth. I'd highly recommend his classes.
Take his class. This man wants his students to do well, and he will give you several opportunities to improve your grade with extra credit. Plus, the majority of the extra credit it easy.
Took 102 as a summer class. I hate politics, but he is able to make the subject interesting. He is extremely passionate about the subject and always available to help his students succeed. He offers extra credit in class for class participation so it is worth showing up every day. I am taking him again for 101.
Prof Bowman is amazing! He's always there to help if there's something you don't understand. He explains complicated ideas clearly. Loved this class. Plus, the man is hot.
He is really nice and really clear. He gives out weekly homework questions which are cake, and he provides study guides and essay exam hints, which are super helpful. He is engaging and makes the class enjoyable
The way he grades isn't the best. It is strictly lecture based. You only have 3 writing assignments, however that only 15% of your grade. Your grade is strictly on the exams he gives. Makes it a bit difficult for people who aren't the best test takers. I think he needs to grade on actual homework assignment rather than test.
Loved this class! Peter has a great personality and pretty easy class. Material is very clear, not much homework just weekly blackboard questions & 3 essays. Tests are mostly essay questions but he gives you "hints" beforehand which are pretty much exactly what he has on the test. Dont really need book just show up to class.
Bowman is pretty cool. He is very knowledgable and knows what he really does know what he's talking about. He's actually there to help you. If you've got time to ask questions, and ask for help, take this class. Sometimes things are a bit unclear and you have to ask. Other than that he is great!
Bowman is passionate about the subject and he's concerned about making sure he gets good feedback from his students. Papers aren't worth much but do them cause he will drop your grade a letter if you don't. Tests are pretty easy and he gives lots of opportunities for extra credit.
Yah in short, Bowman is awesome. Everyone loves him. His class is easy and he gives (not complaining but, a very very LONG) list of exactly what is on the tests. and I am completely terrible at History and I aced all the tests because of his clarity and organization of the class. I'm taking him for POSC 102!
Horrible. Simply Horrible. i don't recommend at all. my name is Micheal Almodovar and i approve of this message
He's a funny guy, however I had a hard time keeping up with the information that was expected of me to read at home. I am not very good at retaining what I read without any chance of oral reinforcement. His lectures were fine, however often times in review for the exams he would brush over a major section that he never covered- tough class for me.
Professor Bowman is a great professor! I am now at a four year university majoring in political science partly because of Professor Bowman's great teaching ability. Received an A in his 101 class and a B in his 102 course. Just make sure you attend class and study deligently on the essay questions for the exams, you should get a good grade.
Didn't like this class, particularly his incredibly poorly updated blackboard. If any assignments are even up, they're mostly just copy-pasted from years ago saying they're over due because he set the due date to sometime in 2004. Hes generally a nice guy and gives fairly good lectures, but doesn't post anything on blackboard which makes it hard.
Prof. Bowman is awesome!!!!
I hated POSC before I took Peter's class but after that everything changed. I was so focused in his class that for the first time in college I got a perfect score on my midterm!! He was so much fun and I wish all teachers could be like him. I started the study guide early each unit and it really helped for all his tests which are straightforward.
Awesome professor!!! He is very passionate about his field of study and tries to make the class lively. There are 3 exams with an essay portion. Potential essay questions and study guides are posted online. Lastly there are 3-4 page writing assignments with potential extra credit opportunity towards each tests. Extra Credit towards EXAMS!!!
Syllabus literally has all the due dates of everything just read it through. Lectures are posted to the web. Study guides for tests tells you everything you need to know. Super nice and funny. Not hard just do the work and really focus on the essay questions Tests aren't long and there are only 3 of them and 3 essays you choose topics. taking again
Professor bowman a great political science prof. I took him for 101 and 102. He does a masterful job of teaching political science without inserting his political views.
He does a masterful job of teaching political science without inserting his political views.
In the world of polarized politics, Prof. Bowman was a breath of fresh air. You can tell that he knows his stuff and is passionate about it, but his class is a safe place for students of all political backgrounds. I have nothing but the utmost respect for him and his class. Thanks to him, I can now back my political beliefs with actual facts!
Professor Bowman will be the first to say he repeats himself constantly and tells jokes that aren't funny. Both of those are true. However, he creates a great learning environment for everyone along the political spectrum and clearly loves what he does. Never talks down to students and is always there if you need help. His corniness is endearing.
Professor Bowman definitely makes learning about politics easy and interesting! He doesn't assign a lot of homework which is great! And he is always giving clues about what is going to be on the tests and his tests are always straight to the point which he stresses to go over on all his lectures! AMAZING PROFESSOR!
Professor Bowman's class was enjoyable. He lectures for the entire class on most of the material but there is a lot not covered in lectures that you need to read the book to pass the test. His handouts need updating along with his blackboard material. The syllabus posted online is out of date and different from the one he hands out.
Professor Bowman is an awesome polysci teacher. He is very clear on the grading criteria. 3 essays with your choice of topic. 3 exams, and yes you will need to study. Not an easy A, but definitely possible. Pay attention, study, and rewrite your notes. Repetition is your best friend. Critical analysis understanding will reflect on the exams.
I took Bowman for a fall class. Political Science was easy but i didn't do the blackboard assignment and the 3 papers that were required so I failed the class. Please do the blackboard assignment, and the papers because they will count toward your grade. He also gives attendance points. He is a pretty easy but he will only announce sumting once.
Professor Bowman knows political science very well and he definitely knows what he is talking about. Very straight forward only 3 tests and 3 essays you have to write for the semester, but you have to submit a discussion board every week, but those are not that hard. Very good teacher but is lectures are very long as well.
Bowman talks a lot, but always gives you a chance to ask questions. Showing up to class will make the tests seem quite easy because he always warns you before hand what essay questions he will be asking (always worth more than the multiple choice portion). He gives very minimal homework, but what he does assign, do it. Easy A, respectable guy.
Professor Bowman is an extremely nice, charming, and astute professor. I took his POSC 102 course this summer, and his class was, besides tests, literally all lecturing. This isn't bad, as he usually makes things interesting enough and clearly has a firm grip on the subject. Plus, information from lectures is often on tests, so it's not useless.
This class was very fun and very interesting. I had the pleasure of taking two political science courses with professor Bowman but years apart. I recall the first class being interesting with some humor. The second course I took had many more southpark references and laid back discussion. The lectures were very entertaining and informative.
Took his polcsi102 class spring 2015. Super knowledgeable guy and cares for his students. Wants everyone to pass and understand the material. I will say his tests were quite difficult for me, and I usually always get As and Bs in classes. The guys head looks like a pineapple. 10/10 would recommend taking him.
Was in the class for only the California government portion (4 weeks). The one test was worth 80% of my final grade and the syllabus was unclear. He had some good examples relating to the material and held discussions in class. Seemed to give more attention and help to his full semester students.
Bowman is an energetic lecturer but will go on long tangents. Clear guidelines for essays and tests. Will not cover all content in class, so read your textbook. Study early because many people failed the tests even though we had a study guide. Important essay question answers are repeated. 3 exams (2 midterms, 1 final. MC & essay). 3 papers. DBQ.
Peter Bowman is one of those professors that sticks with you throughout academic career. A professor that you will compare other professors to. His lectures are amazing are are directly related to the exams. Online discussions are easy and relate to exam questions. Use his exam hints and you will pass. Great guy, amazing professor, take his class.
Took Bowman because of his pretty good reviews, but was slightly disappointed. To be taking a POSC class during one of the most interesting elections in history, he did not incorporate intriguing real world events enough. His lectures just consist of him talking at you, would have enjoyed more visual aids, and just that extra effort/passion
It actually wasnt that bad. he talked really fast and a lot of the time he treated us as if we had already taken 101. (I had taken it and my teacher did not go into as much detail as he did) He often got carried away and rambled on about things that were not important to the class.
Bowman's classes are relatively easily as long as u show up to class, pay attention and take notes, participate in lectures, and do the discussion board. Aside from that you have 3 three current event papers and have to discuss topic w/3 sources and show if there is a bias in any sources. Also 3 exams. Multiple choice and essay question. easy class
3 current event papers and 3 tests w/15 questions each and 2 essay questions. Study guides and sample essay questions are on blackboard. Just show up, pay attention and take notes, and study and you will pass his class easily. He has weekly discussion questions online. Print off the study guide and bring to class to make studying easier. Nice prof.
Professor Bowman is a funny guy. I really enjoyed his lecture style and I felt like the tests and 3 writing assignments were relatively easy. Everything is very straight forward and he gives a lot of hints and help for essay questions that will be on the tests. I would definitely recommend taking him.
This is my second semester with Professor Bowman - took him for POSC102 - and it was even better than the first. He is very knowledgeable and loves to talk about Political Science. He cares about his students learning the information and will work with you to make sure you get the grade you want.
Great teacher explains things in interesting ways. Studying for his exams is very clear cut. His points and tests are easy if you listen in class and study. He is a good professor to take.
Wonderful professor. Gives extra credit. Tests and criteria are clear cut. His lectures are entertaining and interesting.
Professor Bowman is an awesome instructor. It's obvious he loves Political Science, which is why his lectures are so interesting. He offers a TON of extra credit opportunities, and practically spells out what the tests are going to cover. Book is mandatory for weekly discussion board questions, and there's only 3 short writing assignments.
Peter Bowman's class was not my favorite. I did all of the assignments but I'm pretty sure I got a C. He talked really fast and would talk as if everyone there took 101. Which I didn't so I didn't understand half of what he was talking about. Talking with him didn't really help either. Just make sure to do all the assignments.
The bad - Paid attention in class, studied and did great on the multiple choice part of the test. However, I was graded really low on the written exam part despite knowing the information in and out. The good - Lectures are really good. The class was very interesting. You can see his passion for Polysci. My favorite class this semester.
his grading is consistent and that's not always a good thing because however much i knew the info i would get the same grade. i ended up with an A and basically studied 2 hours before his tests were to happen. take good notes, he gives lots of "winks" on what will be on the exam. he has a study guide so fill it out as you go in class.
VERY boring, but easy. If you're looking for an easy A than this is for you. However, lectures are unbearable. Offers extra credit and is a very nice man, but good luck staying awake.
He is enthusiastic and passionate - gives great resources and information - he knows his subject matter well, and then some. Makes himself available for office hours and is pretty good with responding by email - I wouldnt hesitate to contact this professor with questions or for help.
My favorite professor this semester! He is so passionate and I really learned so much. I am 100% taking is POSC 102 class next semester. His lectures and so good and he ties his lectures to current events so that you understand better. Take his class!
Professor Bowman is a phenomenal professor. He is extremely passionate for his discipline and it shows! I definitely recommend taking him! Take advantage of the extra credit that he offers (it's more than plenty) and it's an easy pass. :)
Most of the time he wouldn't answer my questions directly and would do his best to not give his political stance. He rambled on a lot on topics and repeats himself a lot. Work load isn't bad, tests aren't bad. If you want a more sincere teacher you may want to find another to discuss and have a dialogue on politics. Otherwise take him to get by.
I've taken Professor Bowman twice now (first time was Pol101) and I must say I've always enjoyed his classes. He's a good professor that truly cares about the subject he teaches. He's fairly straightforward with what he expect in class via the syllabus and tries to make a dense subject like politics enjoyable.
Professor Bowman is hilarious and makes politics super interesting without showing any bias. You have three short papers and three exams. He gives you study guides. Showing up to class is critical. I recommend him.
Very enjoyable professor. He shows you that he knows what he's talking about, he explains things in detail and will expound on things to help you better understand the topic. One of the best pol sci profs I've taken
Worst teacher I had my 3 years at Palomar. I didn't learn anything in this class, due to his lectures being boring and mostly just him rambling. He didn't try to hide his political opinions at all. He was unclear about due dates for multiple assignments, and wasn't any help when I would try to ask him questions. I would avoid.
Steer clear of this class. Very unclear and harsh grader. He gives very little feedback and the class is basically all lecture. It is clear that he cares deeply about the subject, but neglects to communicate his standards with students. I would not take this class.
Prof Bowman really does care about his students... sounds like a cliche but it's the truth. His lectures, although long winded, are directly on point for the next exam. His structure in class is designed to help you succeed. Open discussions are encouraged but not mandatory so if you have an opinion on a subject feel free to let the class know...
check canvas frequently! every week, there's a discussion question, it's easy points. don't miss papers, they're also easy points. he lets you turn in extra credit papers, and he has "practice questions" for all his tests posted online! 10/10 I may take him again next semester.
His lectures are really heavy and I often found it hard to stay focused sometimes. He is a genuine guy though and does care about his students being interested in the subject he teaches. I received an A in his class, but I really think all the extra credit he gives out and lucky guessing on the exams were the reasons why.
Enjoyed every second of his classes. Lecture heavy, but they make sense. There are essay hints which make exams a hell of a lot easier. Professor is a nice guy, really funny and passionate about his subject. Take this class, you won't regret it
Hilarious teacher. Lecture heavy and very energetic, drink coffee. Very Down to earth. Essay papers are long but require a good thought. mid term essay questions with essay questions thoroughly discussed. lots of read for weekly responses. Good professor who really cares and will put forth an effort to explain in detail if the matter is difficult.
This class is all lectures that are unclear and wordy. He spends time reiterating points or South Park references in class and then the test will have material that was not discussed in class. The study guides are as vague and lengthy as the lectures. No feedback on essays and no clear extra credit given for extra credit assignments.
Professor Bowman is very enthusiastic about what he teaches WAY too many things for you to know in an intro class. He goes on VERY long tangents on topics that may not even be on the exams. Also has LARGE parts of the exams not covered in lecture, and asks you to take time out of class to read and teach it to yourself. I regret taking this class.
Everything in his class is just stupid
Honestly, this is the worst professor/teacher I have ever had. He goes on tangents about the simplest concepts for the entirety of the class and then puts information on the tests that were NEVER covered. He is not approachable at all and is terrible at answering questions. To top it all off he is not good at keeping his opinions to himself.
Out of my 2 years at Palomar, this professor is the worst. Has very long lectures that cover 1 topic but makes you go home and read several chapters so you can teach yourself. This class WAY TOO MANY THINGS TO LEARN but the exam is very specific and random. Literally says in the syllabus that you "must go beyond what the question's answer" uh okay?
I wouldnt take this professor again he assignments are heavy,he expect you to write more than what to question is asking and if you think getting extra credit can help you grade think again he is truly a dream killer
Professor Bowman is an excellent professor to take if you prefer learning through lectures. His lectures cover one to two specific topics per session. While that is slow, he elaborates on these topics so you have a thorough understanding. He has several writing assignments and discussion boards, but he is a fair grader. A good choice for POSC102.
Nothing is working out in this class
I have a degree & am the same age group as the instructor & sadly this was the worst class I've taken ever. He takes 90min to convey material that could be taught in 45min. He assigns misleading questions and redundant writing assignments. Sadly I had the online version which paired all the above with a lack of tech-savviness. Never Again! Sorry.
Professor Bowman is helpful through email and his guidelines/criteria are clear. Lectures are long and sometimes topics mentioned in the lecture are irrelevant to exams. He requires specific things for essay responses on the exams, which can be hard to word. Overall, I learned a great deal in this course from the book and examples in the lectures.
i loved having bowman for IR. he's one of my favorite teachers at palomar. his classes are all extremely engaging, and he's pretty unambiguous about the things that are going to be on the test. if you enjoy watching a strange man prance around the room telling you a story about the soviet union, you should take this class.
His lectures are really helpful in understanding the material and he's just really pleasant to listen to. He really expands on the concepts and tells you exactly what he's looking for on the essay questions for the exams. I would have earned a better grade if I would have had better time management because he genuinely makes this class pretty easy!
Prof Bowman is possibly one of the best online experiences I've had at Palomar thus far. His lectures are long, but not robotic and contain tons of examples. He has three essays and three tests which is not bad if you listen to the lectures. READ. THE. TEXTBOOK. He provides great feedback when you ask him and is always on time w lecture content.
Literally goes on a rant on a single topic out of everything that he decides to put on an exam. Be prepared to TEACH YOURSELF because all this guy is, is a proctor. If you send him an email with a simple question you'll just get a snarky reply back, which is hilarious because with the same amount of time and effort he could've actually answered.
I took this class for credit and forget to get the textbook so I tried to look up the chapters online and struggled so you need the textbook. I did not there were discussion boards for the class and ended up finding out a good amount into the class and had to make up for it. All in all this is an amazing class and I learned a lot.
Professor Bowman was overall a great professor! He is just a super kind, funny guy. His lectures are a bit long, so be prepared to watch weekly and DO NOT fall behind. They are crucial to watch if you want to do well on the test.
Mr. Bowman has made my start in political science by far one of the easiest things to do online. I took his 101 and 110 classes, he goes in depth on the material and gives great examples to help you comprehend the material. Everything you need to know for tests are in the lectures he does and you can prepare for his essay questions before hand.
This is the worst professor ever. He made an announcement about changing the prompt of the final paper but didn't actually change it where the assignment is submitted, causing a lot of students to turn in a paper with the original prompt. He gave out 0s for an assignment worth 5% of your grade... I'm a straight-A student and now I have a C...
A very nice person with manners and respond to emails very often. Lectures are long and unclear. Kind of a tough grader in exams and papers.
He is a tough grader. I didn't receive much feedback on anything. I didn't understand what I did wrong for the low scores that he gave me.
This was just a nightmare. It's almost like he wants you to do bad. I'm not sure if his career in politics didn't work out so now, he's teaching, but it sure feels like it. If you value your mental health and time, don't take this class. Even if you have to take it at another school, do that.
A pretty solid professor. His grading criteria and expectations are clear. However, I wish he would provide feedback on papers/assignments. I feel like feedback is super helpful and helps us know what to improve on. There's quite a bit of material covered so lectures are long but in my opinion it's well explained.
halfway into the semester and i'm over it. his lectures are long ramblings of nothing. posts lecture videos irregularly (at this point it feels like they've all meshed into one long video). cannot emphasize enough how much these lecture videos are just jargon streams of consciousness. incredibly hard to follow what he's saying. incredibly boring
Nothing you do is good enough for him, he says his grading is based of detail in the essays for the tests (which is 10 questions that youll get right but then youll get your grade tanked for the 2 req. essays) but its really not, His lectures are long and overly repetitive on simple material and not what will be on the test.
Halfway through the year he altered the criteria for a paper but didn't update the new information anywhere but through a canvas announcement. The assignment itself still had outdated information and almost the whole class got a zero because we missed the canvas announcement. Class average for the final was a 40% if that tells you anything.
This professor is an extremely hard grader and doesn't even give feedback about grades or clear expectations of essay questions on exams. Lectures are super long and hard to follow and there are barely any assignments except for essays and exams which makes it hard to raise a low grade. DONT TAKE.
VERY lecture heavy, 1-2 hour lectures (tend to be repetitive) but it helps if u put it on 1.5x. tells you all the essay questions which will appear on the exams (2 midterms and a final for my summer term course) and u get to write on 2 essays but 5 options. take notes on the essay qs and youll be good. multiple choice qs come from the textbook
i have nothing against him. his lectures are long and repetitive, but if you watch them and keep up you'll be good. you're only graded on a few assignments/tests so it's nice not having classwork all the time, but that means you have to score well on them. it's hard to hold yourself accountable for the class, so try not to procrastinate. good luck!
Prof Bowman is passionate about the subject and excited to teach it. As others have said, he goes over simple concepts repeatedly and there are few graded assignments in the class so you have to perform well. Lecture heavy and you NEED the text. Would definitely take another one of his classes.
He's not a super tough grader and his quizzes are relatively easy given it's an introductory level course (POSC102), but Jesus CHRIST he talks so much. His lectures are no joke probably 3 times longer than they need to be, just put him on 2x speed. Other than that, very friendly, passionate lecturer, and fair grader
Professor Bowman's class is lecture-heavy, but the info is helpful if you stay on top of it. Unstuck Study AI and the textbook are great study aids alongside the lectures. Avoid procrastinating and you'll do well!
Learned SO much from him. Very lecture heavy but is constantly repeating the subjects at hand to ensure you, not only understand the information, but retain it as well. Really goes into the how's and why's of our governments purpose and functions. Participate and take notes, and you will do well on the exams which are online and open note.
Bowman is an easygoing professor who lectures heavily. Pay attention to notes, participate in discussions, and buy the books for success. he can go off on tangents or be repetitive but he's a chill guy who is just really passionate about his job. Way worse professors than bowman
This class is super easy. I'll be honest, and say that I did not watch a single lecture, and passed the class with an A. That's how easy this class is. He is very easy to reach, and responds within the hour most of the time. There are 3 major papers that you will need to write, but grades only on material in the essay. Highly recommend this class!
Lectures are very and can get boring but is very interactive with his class. Cool guy. No real feedback on exams, expects a lot more than he asks. Stopped showing up to class but still ended with a B. You'll be fine but just be ready to learn so much information in just one lecture. Don't forget to do the discussions questions.
Lectures that went on irrelevant tangents and failed to address what were on the actual exams. Do not take. Not worth the headache
He posts hour and half lecture videos from covid everyday, I was able to pass with an A without watching them and just using his slides/ the textbook. Three 3-4 page papers and 3 exams. Honestly pretty easy just make sure you use good sources for your papers and use his lectures for the exams.
Attendance is not mandatory but it is so important that you attend because 90% of test material will be from the lectures. Gives out a list of material that will be on the tests. Very straightforward in his lectures. Taking good notes in lectures will be beneficial.
