Interesting class, good teacher.
tests r crazy
Pretty cool guy...when I had him, he gave a lot of chances for extra credit...Big time points. Very easy to get a good grade in his class...that's my opinion.
i liked him a lot but the course was really boring... also the tests are insane and you realllly need to study. He didn't give us any extra credit options, but i liked him anyway
hes a really cool teacher
Hysterically funny, even though a lot of people (namely freshmen) didn't get his humor. Loved the social commentary.
Great class...very interesting. He's very helpful, funny, and nice.
As long as you read the ANGEL notes you'll be okay.
Me again :) Films are really interesting (yes...i had to add that)
As an Anth major I found this class fairly easy. Read the Angel notes, pay attention in class, and do a little memorizing before tests and you'll do fine. Very funny prof. and easy to get along with if you at least put some effort into his class.
I agree, the lecture when it came to the subject werent all that hot, but when it came to current events they were. Just read ur lecture notes online and u'll do fine. BTW, stay for the movies; they're good thou they're old
I loved this class! If you want a good grade, show up at class and follow what he says very closely. If you pay attention, you probably wouldn't even need the lecture notes.
great teacher. relates topics in class to current events, really funny and nice. study the ANGEL notes for the exam and you'll be fine. =D
excellent teacher
One of the most interesting people at PSU Abington, extrmely friendly if you get to know him - don't expect a good grade if you don't put effort into this class! It's a lot of fun, but show some kind of interest. Capelotti is not only an excellent professor, but a really awesome person as well.
An eccentric teacher, but interesting. Well from what I experienced from the short amount of time I spent in class. I showed up for most classes till the first test and got an A on it. I decided not to go to class anymore and got the notes online and still did well. Didn't buy book. Easy class.
A little weird at first, but interesting nonetheless. Class is pretty easy if you read the materials and study. Good teacher overall.
he is very interesting and knows soooo much - i learned a lot and stayed interested every class.
... never had a better prof...
Great professor. Class was sometimes boring, but he was funny.
Class was alrite, boring at times~ got a B
HOT HOT HOT
you don't even have to go to class. EASY
he's good and good looking. a bit boring at times when he just reads and reads. dont buy the textbook and download the lectures on angel. take notes. sometimes there is more on his tests than he alludes to. if you want an A you will have to spend sometime before the test studying.
This class is a joke. Calling it American Studies and then studying European Polar exploration is a joke. The topic is so boring. It nothing to do with the actual evolution of American Society. I don't know how this man is still allowed to teach this falsely advertised class. He is extremely bias on the topic, don't take this class with him.
Literally told a student to go to the National Archives in Washington to research my paper. I don't know what these crazy explorers have to do with American Studies. Personally biased. He needs to get off his sledge and step out into the real world, where students can't just get up and go to D.C.
This guy is definately a unique individual. But regardless of how he is as a person, I would rate him as a good professor. He is sometimes boring, granted the topic is intro to archaeology. I was only taking it for Gen Eds, but it turned out to be somewhat of an interesting class. Funny guy, tricky quizzes and tests but you'll pass if you study
Not too bad of a class. Wasn't interested in this class at first. Dr. Capelotti seems intimidating at first, but he is a very nice and helpful man. Download notes from Angel, and you'll be okay.
This guy can kiss my rear. Everyone slaved for his class and from what I've heard only one person got a good grade and thats because he kissed this guy's ass. Made one student go on a long drive for a report and another he wanted to go to the archives. No wonder he isn't teaching AM ST 402W in the fall.
Don't take if you are lazy. Class was reading and writing intensive so don't expect to slack and do well. He was very helpful with my topic.
Great professor and very intelligent. Very helpful, but you have to ask for help. Tests were hard but if you study you'll do fine. I got an A-, Great guy to have a convo. with.
The professor is really fun and intelligent. He is helpful when needed and has a great personality. Need to show up to class and read whatever is assigned because you will be quizzed on it. Tests are tricky but the notes on angel are very helpful
this teacher is horible... he stands in front of class and talks for an hour and lookes up at the end of class and asks if anyone has questions and then doesent answer them... he told a student who had a low D that he shouldent drop the corse (this is a few days b4 the late drop period) and said he would be fine... THE FAILED HIM! DONT TAKE HIM!!!!
grades are only based on quizzes and tests. tests are word for word from the notes and movies you watch...quizzes are harder and from the text books.
very good teacher, keeps the class interested!! as long as you keep up with your readings you will do well!
He's not that helpful when it comes to tests and quizzes. There's lots of reading and note-taking in his class. Be prepared to write a lot.
Pay attention to movies, especially what anthropologist related to which movie. Read book or you won't pass. Understand the notes you take because the tests will not be just spitting back the presentations. He will work with you if you make the effort.
Good teacher, very interesting. Film clips and current events really break up the monotony of the usual class lectures. Test are usually based on power points, but quizes are from book and very hard.
hes a pretty funny guy. if your gonna take him get ready to study your butt off if you want a B or higher. tests are usually on powerpoints and some deffinistions from the book. doesnt take roll
Professor Capelotti conducts an extremely intriquing class each and every time. I personally like his taste in style, due to its natural characteristics! He is a beyond accomplished man with several published books to his name. If you allow him to, he will broaden your horizens and educate you about a variety of topics. Take this teacher!
Absolutely LOVE him! Class attendance is mandatory, but he gives chances at extra credit! His tests are straight from the study guide, maybe one or two questions from the book. He is easy if you just pay attention!
A true, genuine professor who yearns to inspire you, as long as, you're willing to be mentally challenged and learn more about yourself and other cultures. If not, your grade will definitely reflect it.
LOVED this class. take him for anth 045, it's the easiest class he teaches and you will love him for it. he is absolutely hilarious and makes you never want to miss a minute of his class. grade is based on only 4 tests (directly from study guide) and obviously if you don't go to class or read the book you won't do well. doesn't take attendance
I love Capelotti. He's a great professor. He keeps you interested with jokes, but still teaches with them. Gives extra credit. tests are a little difficult, but if you do the study guide and read you can't fail. plus, he's pretty good looking.
I took Dr. Capelotti for Anth 045 and Anth 021 and ended up changing my major to biological anthropology because of his positive influence. He is hilarious and is very easy to talk to. Definitely going to miss him when I go up to PSU University Park.
Professor Capelotti is hilarious! His powerpoints are a little confusing and his tests are hard but he always lets you come to him for help.
Prof Capelotti is a great man with a plethora of information useful and irrelevant to the course material. I took his anth 021 and 045, every class was different. He made it very exciting, and gives people the opportunity to discuss their opinion. Test are very fair.
this was the greatest class I have ever take at abington. Professor Capelotti is a great professor who knows his stuff, and isn't afraid to show it. I learned more information in this one class than I ever have in any of my other classes combined. challenging, but worth it all the way. I will remember what he taught me for a very long time
I took 3 classes with him, one honors cultural and two as honors options, hes a real cool guy real laid back, if you say something mildly intelligent hes as nice as can be. tests are mostly multiple choice
I took 2 classes with him--Biological Anthropology and Cultural Anthropology. He is the best professor I've ever had in my college career. He's extremely smart, and will make ANY topic interesting with his unique perspective on things, and his sense of humor. Tests can be challenging, but if you don't do well, it's on you. He gives reviews ahead
the best teacher I've had for any science ever!!! he was my favorite teacher freshman year, i am def taking cultural anthropology with him next year
knows his stuff.test are hard and lectures boring but he at times makes it interesting.
If you're not good with history, multiple-choice tests, fill-in, or short essay tests, this class isn't for you. His personality kind of annoys me. He can be funny at times. Although I studied hard for his tests, they were still difficult. He also makes you do a group video project throughout the semester. I dropped because I was failing.
This was a hard class and I'm an honors kid who has an interest in the subject. He knows the subject very well but he taught the 021 class as if it were a class in graduate school. There were only 2 chances to get extra credit and none of them were available past the midterm. Good teacher, but very tough class!
STUDY and you'll be fine. I got an A in biological anthro and I am now pulling a high B in cultural anthro. Don't take his classes if your not prepared to work hard.
Excellent professor. If you get engaged in the discussion, you'll do fine. I had sevral Anth classes with him and he was excellent in each one and very helpful. Read the assignments and get involved in the discussions in class, pay attention to the films and videos he shows and an A should be no problem. No need for extra credit.
He's a good teacher, but he doesn't help you prepare for exams. He makes class kind of interesting. There are no study guides, and his test averages are low.
Professor Capelotti is a great professor; he wants you to LEARN and not just spit back answers for an exam. In order to excel in his course, you MUST study rigorously for his exams. However, he DOES prepare you well. Like I said, he is a great professor and an even greater person.
Not the easiest class and he does not review for exams. Very helpful to go to class for the notes. I think about half the class dropped before the final exam because they weren't going to pass. The only good thing was that this class also counts for a lab, so you're killing two birds with one stone. I ended up with a C average.
Interesting subject matter and does a great job on lectures but that's about it. There's 4 tests and that's all he uses to give you a grade. Doesn't even take role/count participation. If you do poorly on one test you're basically in trouble so make sure you don't skip any classes, take notes, and study.
He isn't very helpful, he doesn't review anything. All the class is, is tests, so even though attendance isn't mandatory, it's better to go, even though it doesn't help anyway. The syllabus even says the average for his class is a C/D, I wouldn't advise taking his class.
Took him for 21 & 45. There are a lot of notes but the tests aren't hard if you study. Their multiple choice! 3 exams and a final that's it. if you aren't a good test taker maybe this isn't the class for you. But that's what college is, tests. If you're in college and don't know how to take a test, maybe you should go to community.
If you're looking for any EXTREMELY knowledgeable and enthusiastic lecturer - take this class! However, note that Dr. Capelotti doesn't cut any slack to his students, he actually expects you to WORK and spend time with the material outside of class. It's refreshing to have a professor who holds students to higher standard. If you're lazy avoid him
I loved his class! Dr. Capelotti is now one of my favorite professors. His personality makes the class enjoyable, and he made it easy for me to take an interest and really pay attention to the material. This class requires that you study and learn the material outside of class, but that should be required on a college level. His class rocked!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS TEST ARE SUPER HARD!
He is a very nice teacher and an interesting character. On the other hand, the tests are very difficult. Assigned readings are barely even covered on the test and the notes in class are quite confusing. Would not recommend half of the class have dropped the class.
I believe myself to be a reasonable student and I do not know why he is allowed to teach Anthro. I am not failing his class, however, his tests are as if he purposely wants to bring your grades down. In the beginning of his class he almost bragged about his classes usually having a low C average. He is not helpful and his work is unnecessary.
I would not recommend anyone to take this class with this professor. I regret taking it . You have been warned. Just don't do it.
I find him to be an interesting and lively character. I never get bored in his class, I actually enjoy going to his class. His tests are moderate as long as you take notes, read the text, and actually study.
Well I will start off by saying by the end of the semester more then half of the class will drop this class. test are very hard and not based on the notes given in class or the book. you pretty much have to teach yourself everything. he is not too helpful if you are struggling, he will just suggest you to drop the course... I would not refer.
In order to do well in this class you must go to class and pay attention. If you take the notes and read the assigned readings the class isn't impossible. Nice Professor
really funny, cool and helpful. tough class tho
One of the worst professors I've ever had. His exams are extremely hard and don't relate to his online slides or lecture notes. He is also unhelpful and his extra credit is useless. His typical class average is a low C. I wouldn't recommend anyone taking his class AT ALL!
Horrible teaching! I used to have 4.0 GPA. He makes funny faces and speaks sarcastically about everything, especially about religious people. You have to write at the speed of light to copy down everything from the slide shows, because it will be on the tests. His test questions are very confusing. He does not count an answer with a misspelling.
Worst professor ever! If you care about your grade don't take him. Exams are super hard!!!
He does not have the best reputation, however he is willing to help you, just ask. Take his lectures very seriously because they are 90% of the necessary information for the tests. I wish that he would post the power points on angel and give the tests back, it will be very helpful to study for the final exam. Not an easy course, but worth taking!
He's an amazing professor. Extremely funny and won't fail to make you laugh every class. Exams are only difficult if you do not study or go to class. The actual course and the material is difficult, but not how he teaches. Extremely NOT okay with using electronics in class.
i loved his class! he is the funniest teacher i had here. the material itself isn't very interesting, but he made it fun and i actually looked forward to going to his class in the morning. he made it easy to listen to his lectures-i actually paid attention. he does not like cell phones-never take yours out during class. i would def take him again
He is a horrible professor. His presentations did not help me prepare for any of test. attendance is mandatory but i did not see the point of going to his class because the test is made up of everything that's in the book. I do not recommend anyone taking his class.
Ok, overall his class was really INTERESTING. But first three exams are nothing like what he teaches you. At one point, both of the 21's were talking about what to do because everyone was failing. DO NOT skip class because you wont pass the final exam. However if you write down everything in the powerpoints youll be ok
Read the assigned reading ahead of time! Yes, it's hard but that's college. I heard so many people complain about him being impossible to pass, it's not impossible if you do what your supposed to. Definitely not an easy A, but there is not much work. Read chapters, a couple of online quizzes, handful of tests, final is open notebook.
Great guy but the material he teaches is very boring. Thought his class would be more biology based but it felt more like a history class. The exams are mostly people and dates.
Prof C is a riot in class. He has the best personality on campus you'll be laughing often. Read the textbook and take notes and you'll be fine.
Doesn't do anything but lecture, no review, no help, and he's rude
This is certaintly not the easiest gen. ed class out there. It is more of a history class than an anthropology class. He does not tell you specifically what you need to know for exams. You have to know every little detail in the slideshow and the book. The exams themselves are difficult. He can be a bit rude and sacastic at times.
Overall, not a bad choice. Great guy and generally really easy-going. You just have to work for the grade you want in his class!
Definitely not an easy class but very much worth it. I really enjoyed the class overall. Not every class is going to be easy, its college people but tough situations help you grow. Put in the work and study and you will do fine. Skip class and you will be lost. Lots of information per lesson.
Very funny and kind professor. Don't ever skip class unless you have a friend that can take notes for you while you're gone. Tests rely heavily on the notes taken in class and make sure to take notes from the textbook as well.
Gives bare minimum on notes, lots of online quizzes and very difficult tests. He's a funny guy, but gets angry/upset very easily. Very strict
He is not approachable outside of the classroom for help. He goes through notes very quickly and you must copy them all or you cannot pass his tests. The grade in the class is based solely on multiple choice style questions.
The most inspiration interesting professor
Show up to class, take good notes, use your good notes on online tests/quizzes, get an a.
Capelotti's class is the one I did the worst in. I never missed class, I took notes, read the textbook, but only came out with a C+. Halfway through the semester, over half the class dropped out. He's not good at lecturing and you never know what his tests are going to cover. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Theres very few assignments in Capelottis online class. Just a couple 5-question quizzes and 4 tests. If you take good notes youll ace this class with no problem.
I don't understand why so many people dislike professor Capelotti.. he makes his lectures very interesting and to some degree, relates to his students. You read one chapter a week and take a quiz on it and they're very easy. The tests are also easy since its straight from the text.. very enjoyable professor and an amazing class to take.
Rarely email you back for contacting and no chance to make up quiz even under the most special situation.
Dr C is an amazing guy. All his tests are based on the powerpoint slides. You have to take good notes if you want to get an A. Final exam is culmaltive but mostly based on previous things. He doesn't curve or give extra credits. TAKE GOOD NOTES!!!
Took a web anthro course so it was definitely challenging coming from someone who knew nothing about anthropology. It's just quizzes and tests which are based off the online lectures and textbooks. Lots and lots of reading, but I had him web so I can't give much of an opinion on PJ himself. A hard course to take web.
Unless you are a die-hard anthropology fan w/ ample knowledge about anthropology, DO NOT take Dr. Capelotti. The tests + quizzes are open notes, but he phrases his questions so difficult, they don't even help. Honestly, I took this course as an elective, + it was far too much trouble for what it's worth. Save yourself the headache and aggravation.
The class was online but there was no way to make up work. You could get admitted to the hospital and he still will not let you make up work. There is a quiz every week and a few tests. Buy the textbook ASAP because the professor is legit the author. He does these audio lectures that don't work and when they do, there is barely any information.
If you're trying to balance work, school and other obligations, don't take his class. He leaves online quizzes open for only 18 hours and as quizzes are a substantial percentage of the grade, if that day doesn't work for you, you're done for. I did well for the quizzes I didn't miss but for a 100 lvl course and general elective, it's too rigid.
While the weekly workload was very reasonable, usually about an hour a week, the quizzes and exams were fairly difficult. Also, a 95% for an A is really high, especially considering it's an online class and you're grade is determined by just 5 quizzes and 4 exams. Overall, I wouldn't recommend him but it is doable.
He made it very easy as an online class. From the audio lectures, you just download and listen. He provides weekly canvas messages on what the week will hold. Material in the lectures is used on quizzes and tests so I do recommend listening and taking notes on them. A little note and lecture heavy but nothing too bad.
Worst professor ever met
Overall the class was not bad. Expect to read, grades are all from quizzes and exams, avoid this professor if you have a busy life cause he only opens quizzes and exams for one day, if you miss them you get a zero no matter what.
