He is an ex-lawyer thus his teaching style is demending at times. He likes to do 3 things at the same time and give random and hard quizes. I'd not recommend you to take him for Technical Communications.
He is a good and dedicated teacher but there are too many team works. Sometimes you do all the work and your teammates will all get "your" grade. I guess it's a good team builder but at the end I want my grade not anyone else's.
Just the best in English, and one of the best at SFCC. Someitmes he's tough, but he is very organized and puts a lot of materials online for study.
Copious notes. Makes you learn it, but he cares.
BE PREPARED TO TAKE HARD QUIZZES. HE EXPECTS A LOT FROM YOU BUT ITS BECAUSE HE CARES.
Peter is an awesome teacher, he is very understanding when you have personal situations that interfere with his class. I would recommend taking him for Technical Communications.
Very unhelpful!!!!!!!!!!!
Very demanding and seems to grade on an unfair scale (expects some people to work harder)
A C with Mr. Concannoon is worth more than an A with many other professores
assignments are actually fun. lectures are interesting. highly recommended
Very good teacher. He expects more from students who show potential than those who just show up. Take his class if you want a teacher who will believe in you and not just care if you are a warm body in a seat. He cares about his students and makes an effor
great prof
I liked him. He's got a ncie sense of humor, and he is very warm out of class.
A great teacher with lots of knowledege. He has a good sense of humor, and he provides lots of resources. Review the powerpoints and take notes and you'll do great. On of the best at SFCC.
I had him in summer. We had a small class, which made it fun even though basically we couldn't skip. He's passionate about tech writing. Doing a web page was hard, but he put in extra time to help.
Peter was a great professor. I had him in a 6 week summer course for tech writing. He managed to get the most out of us and our time. His teaching style keeps the class interesting. Anybody willing to put in the time required for the writing, will do good
Peter is an excellent teacher and always made lectures interesting(even the boring material). He is extremely helpful with all the papers and groupwork that you are assigned. He is also a very nice guy and very fair with the grading.
He is a great teacher. He is really helpful. A highly recommand teacher
Mr. Peter Concannon is one of the best teachers I have ever had. He is thorough and knows the subject very well. He is nice and helpful. If you don’t understand something, go to his office, and he will take his time to go over things you don’t understand.
He was very unorganized. If you expect to have your work graded on time don't take the on-line class. I liked the class, but was frustrated by the consistent lack of grades returned.
What a great professor! He was clear and helpful. And he marked up all our online papers with lots of comments.
Alot of work due on a weekly basis but he is fair and he will explain everything you want him to.
He's very nice. A little unorganized and doesn't explain assingments to throughly. I did enjoy his class, but lots of stuff due weekly. Be prepared to work. Some of his test's were hard b/c it had a writing assignment that you had to finish in class. Overall I would take him again.
Actually, one of the best things about him is that he is incredibly organized. His assignments are all descibed online, with lots of detail and even samples from other students. Plus, he gives us updates of our grades all the time,a nd he has a clear schedule. I thought he was one of the clearest teachers I've had.
A lot of work, but class was mostly fun. Pretty good sense of humor.
I enjoyed the class; use his office hours.
I had him for Summer B. I suck at English with usually B's or C's and I managed to keep an A- in his class. Alot of work, but he really helps you! I would recommend him to anyone willin to try just a lil!!!
best prof in the world, always giving a helping hand. you must earn your grade, but he'll show you the way. cool as chilled water!!!!!!!! take his course.
Great professor! He is very accomodating and friendly. Nothing too difficult except maybe a few papers. Online quizs are straight from the book/supplements. Highly recommend for such a hard class.
Professor Concannon is so smart that he will make things so easy that you will get it right away. Whenever you do the work load, you will be fine. I will recommend that you take his class. Do the work and understand the concept you will get an A
I recommend Concannon for anyone who's had a bad experience with English professors. He's SO helpful and fair. I never hear grumbling after class about how terrible he is, because he's funny and easy to relate to. I forget I'm in English class because we go so in depth about a certain thing, it's like we're in a pyschology class. Amazing professor.
Great teacher! Took his class online - definitely recommend that! Quizzes are so easy. Be prepared for a 12-15 min. oral presentation though. Other than that, and the midterm which is a little lengthy, everything is a piece of cake!
Prof. Concannon is by far my favorite English prof. I've had here at SFCC. He gets the class to discuss different topics and makes the class interesting. He is a great professor and I highly recommend him. Make sure you're not absent or tardy!
Concannon is an awesome professor. He is a really nice guy and a very fair grader. I would definitly recommend taking his class.
he's very nice and isnt too hard of a grader. i havent really made A's on my papers, but ive made 89's... its hard to getin touch with him, office hours are weird... but he's nice and i find the class to be interesting and funny. it's not too bad of a work load at all
really nice guy. interesting class discussions. chill class, but you must spend time on the papers.. he is a nice grader ( but I definately put alot of effort into my work.)_
I think he's a terrific professor. He really cares about students and gives lots of extra help. He's also funny. I'd take him again for any class.
One of the best profs I've ever had. Take him. You'll learn, and he encourages you.
A great Professor I took him online. A student must keep up with work and due dates and will do just fine. Also very helpful take advantage of on campus office hours. Overall very nice guy, and teaches the class very well. Would recommend over other professors.
Took him online, there are A LOT of assignments. They aren't hard, but you have to keep up with them, follow his directions, and definitely turn them in on time. Kind of a tough grader, barely got A's on the assignments/tests.
Great instructor. Very quick responses to email and more than fair! One can't help but "like" him!
I took his class for English one, he is overall a pretty good teacher, classes are a bit boring, and long, and attendance counts! He grades essays pretty hard, and you have to read the stories in order to pass the quizzes.
I love this man! he is very sweet and really wants his students to pass. He loves teaching and if you dont understand he does everything he can to help you. His quizzes are easy and his essays are NOT bad at all! He wants his students to succeed and wants them to get a good grade! Very VERY organized. TAKE HIM!
I really liked his class. He is a very nice person and his class is pretty easy as long as you read the material. He is very clear on what you are suppose to do and will help you if you need any. He is a very entertaining man. I would recommend you take his class.
I was afraid of this class because I hate to write, however, I gave it my best and was rewarded for it. Attendence is part of your grade as well as participation. He loves discussion. Quizes come from the readings out of the book so you will need access to one. He is very clear as to what he expects and he is very helpful.
Mr. Concannon is a great English teacher! He really wants his students to do well! There are like every English class papers, but if you take it to him during his office hours he will make corrections! He is very fair, &loves teaching. He makes it fun! Make sure to get the textbook! There are quizzes from the book (they're open note!)Take him!
I took this class online and it was super easy. He is very organized on Angel, no guessing what the assignment is or when its due. Plenty of time to complete all that he asks. Very slow to grade things.
I didn't think he was easy--but he assignments were really clear. I also thought the assignments were given back quite quickly.
He's not that easy. His quizzes about the book are not open note you just have to make sure to read them ahead of time. He gives a bunch of essays but they are not too hard. He doesnt like phones.
He was funny and pretty low-key I liked the assignments, which were actually challenging, not easy.
He is a super helpful and nice guy. I took his online class and did well. There is A LOT of small assignments so you have to keep up.
This is not a difficult class but it is incredibly boring and you won't learn anything. Professor Concannon is very odd and tries to act like a student. He is an astoundingly slow grader so it is difficult to gauge your progress in the class. Quizzes are given often, and there are finals and midterms. Attendance is a grade for this class.
I've enjoyed this class. The professor has been really helpful, and I've gone to his office hours a lot. I've liked the assignments, which are much more real world and give a chance to use computers for more than just typing.
Class was pretty boring and you won't learn anything new. But the class isn't hard as long as you do the work on time and study for the quizzes (which are usually every class). He is a nice guy and means well and wants all of his students to succeed. Take the class if you don't mind writing, but make sure you're willing to make an effort.
Really boring! torture to stay awake in that class. So hard to stay focused since there is a computer right in front of you. But pretty Easy. Go to class, i had all A's in that class but because of attendance he bumped me down to a B...lame
He's funny, with a light touch. He was really nice, always wanting us to succeed and keeping us posted on grades. Some of the assignments take a lot of work, like the research paper, but he really cares a lot about students and helped me write a really good one.
This professor is terrible. Class is soo boring and I didnt learn anything new. He gets offended if you dont know the answer. And he takes forever to grade. Do not take this class.
This Teacher was my second favorite teacher so far, He keeps the discussions amusing and overall great, if you have to have a teacher for ANYTHING, this is the teacher to get
Great teacher, assignments straight forward (goes over stuff in class beforehand), pretty interesting classes. Make sure to read the assigned materials for quizzes though, helpful to go to his office hours for essays. Not an easy A, but great if you are willing to actually put effort.
I took this class online and ended up doing it only once a week. I wouldn't recommend that. I'd advise to spend an hour or two atleast twice a week. It's an easy class if you don't put it off until last minute. He is very nice and helpful and grades pretty well in my opinion. I got A's and B's on things I would have graded lower. A good class!
Most boring teacher of my life. Half of the material isn't even relevant to English whatsoever. Sugared cereals? Boring.
Great class and teacher. He will give you extra help outside the classroom so you understand the writing assigments. Quizes are hard and you must review for them but he is fair with grading papers. Our class had lots of great topics to discuss in class and it opens your mind to writing. Great teacher overall.
Tech writing is definitely NOT for slackers. Mr. Concannon is a fair grader though and that helps, though the number of major writing assignments dwarfs ENC1101. Syllabus is hard to understand, though in communication with him he is crystal clear and very quick to respond. He is pretty helpful if you show you are a serious student.
Great professor, got me into English when I never enjoyed it before. Attendance is important and so is the reading. Simple reading, quizzes, and essays. All around good class.
He's awesome. I didn't care that much about a writing course, but I liked some of the assignments, especially ones later in the course.
Mr. Concannon is a good english teacher but it is not an easy class. I took it online and weekly tests/discussion boards are important. Slow on returning graded homework, which made doing some assignments difficult. Often notes/due dates would be dated wrong. Is quick in returning emails/questions. Ask questions & keep up, and the class is ok.
Very nice professor, very passionate about teaching. Boring class but he's a nice guy.
Really nice guy that's passionate about teaching. Very relaxed class atmosphere, will sometimes play youtube videos to help point out something in an issue. Likes to use current events (facebook, gov issues) for papers
this guy is so nice he really cares about helping you do good. participation is a plus,so be attentive. excellent teacher if you want to understand what you are doing and get a good grade
Very helpful
Loved this prof. Excellent feedback and guidance through important material.
I took technical communications with this professor online, and it was very easy. The only complaint that I have with this professor is that he doesn't always reply to emails when you have questions.
Mr. Concannon is an excellent teacher! I would take him again. He was very helpful and encouraging. English is fairly easy for me, and this course challenged me some, which was good for me. Very interesting and applicable to almost any field. Mr. Concannon was approacahble and supportive if you had questions. Would take him again!
For a teacher in Communications, he fails at communicating. I took this course online and I rarely received a response to questions asked. He grades very hard and takes a long time to post grades. English is my favorite subject. I expected better results.
At first I really hated this guy. After a while in the course I realized it was just his confusing directions that I hated. As a teacher he was always willing to go above and beyond to help and gave me several extensions when I got sick when he didn't really have to. Overall he is a little confusing but he is a really nice guy.
Great teacher, really cares about his students. Wants to see you succeed and is very helpful in class and out. Would definitely recommend taking him, just make sure you read the stories and come to class prepared.
Professor Concannon is very monotone when it comes to lectures. He reads off of the power points and it is very boring. He is very unclear with directions and doesn't explain much in detail and is terrible at getting back to you. He is also a very very stingy grader, definitely wish I didn't take him. He's not as good as everyone has reviewed.
He IS very monotone with lectures. If he sees your phone more than three times you get kicked out of the class. The book is very hard to follow, i'm pretty sure it's compiled by an atheist and it's very hard to pay attention when you have to read something that's against your beliefs. Just a fair warning, nothing against the guy except his teaching
No timely feedback on my assignments. Written assignment directions are contradictory to his oral directions. Had to seek constant clarification on assignment topic. Monotone lectures. He gets upset if you ask about his non existent grading rubric.
I would not recommend this professor. Assignment directions were vague unclear, yet hyper-detailed work was expected. Commentaries shared by prof in class sounded demeaning to me & my classmates alike. No structure to assignments or rubric provided. I had to constantly ask for feedback on assignments, clarification of directionsdue dates.
Professor Concanon is the best ! His writting skills are perfect and is very helpful. He is kind and happy. He likes to assign long writting reports , but he will make them fun to do. totally recommended
He is a great professor! Very clear with directions, gives helpful feedback to improve your writing, wants you to succeed. Sometimes he does take a while to grade things, but thats because he has to read about 50 papers at once. He checks his email on a daily basis and provides time for office hours. His class is a very relaxed environment.
Great teacher excellent responses on papers done had a few problems like my final exam being deleted when accidentally shutting down my computer but allowed for extended time for submission which allowed me to not freak out too much grading criteria is the usual quizzes aren't too bad I usually got 80-100 on quizzes without reading.. good luck
Love him, grades sorta tough but definitely a great teacher and if I stayed at Santa Fe I would've taken him for Comp 2.
He is a nice guy, but is not good at communicating. I sent him multiple emails throughout the semester and didn't receive replies. He failed to grade assignments in a timely manner, and failed to post a correct course schedule on the website.
Concannon is a great teacher and I definitely learned a ton about composing papers and formats. He does a couple of group projects and exercises that are very easy. He says 4 absents then you fail but its not very strict. He does "pop quizzes" which he has written in advanced on his homepage that's always up to date.
The class wasn't hard at all. He gives you a quiz like almost everyday but there like five questions and I haven't read any of the articles prior to taking them and always got a B on them. He gives alot of lectures, but he really prepares you when it's time to write an essay. Participation matters. You'll have alot of long article readings...
Took this class as an elective, so basically on a whim. He ended up being a wonderful professor that actually cared more about his students learning than assigning a pass or fail. Not very hard either, a little particular when writing papers but it can be an easy A if you put in the effort.
Hes an ok professor. I took him online & he took forever to respond to my emails (if he did) & was late at grading & posting assignments on time. He grades harshly on essays, but gives good feedback. Not great, but good.
Concannon isn't a horrible teacher but in this class you will most likely learn little to nothing about English and it will be more geared towards a class about A.I. and robots (as he is extremely into this whole world of things) there are quizzes on readings at least once a week if not both classes in the week and he grades average on essays.
One of the best professors I've ever had! Only used one of the two books he had assigned and it was only used for 5 quizzes at the start of class. Only assignments in class are 5 essays, quizzes on reading, and in-class exercises. He cares a lot about everyone getting a good grade as long as you come to him he'll help.
If you consider yourself a good writer, there's no better choice. He gives tremendous feedback and will really make you improve your writing skills. Somewhat picky while grading and takes some time, but in the end it's really worth it. Very helpful outside of class in his office hours, showing that he really cares about your success and improvement
Good professor. Very intelligent. Need to participate. If you try and you participate he treats you very fairly. If you dont, sell you probably shouldnt be here.
Professor Concannon is an excellent professor to improve your writing skills! Hes very smart and provides great feedback! If you go to class and work hard youre gonna do fine!
Took this class online. Concannon doesn't respond to emails and his large assignments require excessive details that are just tedious. If you do not have a reliable computer do not take his class. The mini microsoft package SF provides is not enough for his class, I recommend getting the full version. He doesn't put in assignment grades in quickly.
He was very nice, caring, and accommodating. I only wish that he had graded things in a timely manner and more importantly, shown what we were marked down for when he graded papers. Not just a grade. I didnt feel like I had a chance to improve. But if you read what you are supposed to and use his templates, you should be fine.
I didn't enjoy Concannon's class. I started out not being his biggest fan but at least being okay with him, but after many unnecessary moments of him calling me and my friend out for things we weren't doing and times when he would teach in a manner that no one could understand, I couldn't stand his class anymore. It might be better for you though.
Class was really not that hard but this professor takes a long time to grade, and takes a while to get back to you about everything. For that reason I wouldn't take him again.
Professor Concannon was a great teacher and I enjoyed time in his class. He was very understanding about any difficulties I had with assignments, and was willing to give me chances to improve. It's important to do the assigned readings in the textbook and the ones linked on canvas, and the essays can get difficult. He's great nonetheless!
Professor Concannon was very specific with what he wanted and looking forward, his specifics don't always line up with other professors'. It took a bit for me to really learn what he prefers along with the basic class requirements, though for a friend of mine in the class with me, it didn't take her long at all so it really depends on you.
I took this Professor for ENC1102. He does not respond to texts/emails. Doesn't grade any of your assignments until the end of the semester besides your Essays. Tough grader. What you hear him teach in class, most of the time does not go with your assignment.
This was a fully online class and Professor Concannon was very not active with the class. He doesn't grade fast by any means, I still have yet to receive a grade on my paper from the beginning of the semester and we're nearing the end of the semester all together. I'm sure in an actual class he'd be pretty decent as he tries to make it interesting.
He put so much effort into the first few weeks then he just completely gave up. He stopped posting lectures, assignments, and essays until the last two weeks. He gave almost everyone 60s on our essays even though he hasn't been teaching. He seems like a great person, just avoid online.
Prof concannon is an okay professor, it looks like he completely gave up, never responded to emails after a while. The articles he gives to read are over 30 pages each and he is never satisfied with your work, I put everything in my essays and always got a C. I would not recommend if you are not an english major.
Honestly one of the worst professors ive ever had. He does not explain assignments well at all and expects you to know everything about the class before even learning anything. Goes off on tangents that have nothing to do with the class itself and then the next day there would be a quiz on what he was supposed to teach. Lots of long hard, busy work
I took Concannon for an honors course requirement. Because it was honors, he expected you to know how to write fairly well before entering. Therefore, if your strong suit isn't writing I don't recommend taking the class. Can be hard to reach at times and grades everything last minute. He is a pretty nice guy though!
Every assignment is worth 100 points. This could easily make or break your grade. Even the final is 100 points flat. There are no extra credit assignments. The lectures were very technical and you really had to be engaged to pass in his class. Strict formatting grades, but I somehow passed regardless.
All of his grades put into canvas were worth 100 points which wasn't cool considering one missing assignment could bring your grade down. He took the whole semester to put most of my grades in and didn't respond fast to emails. Other than that, he was a super kind and sweet guy, but I personally wouldn't take this class again.
The class itself wasn't very difficult, just content-heavy, and the content is actually useful. You're supposed to read the book outside of class for the weekly quizzes, but I didn't, but I did fine. Prof. lectures for 15-20 mins. each class and then you can work freely. If you don't like to write frequently, this class may not be for you.
Takes forever to grade. I never used the textbooks and did decent on the quizzes. He is strict with his grading and did not explain any of the assignments well. You will do multiple memos, a lot of words, and they wont get graded until the end of the semester so be prepared. Oh and he locks the grade so you cant see it until its on the transcript.
Just an average class. I like him but he doesn't grade anything in a timely manner. Lots of homework that ends up just being a completion grade. At times grading criteria is unclear. Most classes are spent reviewing topics we were told to read. Feel like I didn't learn much :/
By far, one of my favorite professors. Concannon isn't a hard grader and will help you if you ask. Most assignments are completion grades. The class is content-heavy, and there are weekly quizzes, but none of it is hard. Easy A!
He waits until finals week to put grades in for assignments we did months ago. He does grade some exercises on completion however the ones that are not, he waits till the last minute to grade which was annoying not knowing what we needed to improve on. We also had lots of reading to do in short periods of time that was mandatory for quizzes.
Nice guy, but not a great prof. Rarely on time for class, all over the place. Quizzes for stuff he went over for 3 minutes the class before. Didn't really do anything the 1st half of the year then started teaching out of nowhere. He doesn't grade anything on time and waits till the end to put stuff in. If you do it right, easy A. Not a great class.
Started the semester off smooth and easygoing then started teaching out of nowhere and assigning essays on things we barely went over. If you can keep a fast pace this is the class for you.
There isn't a clear schedule, and he often moves things around without any warning. He is not a terribly hard grader and if you go to his office hours and show him your essay, he will provide good feedback. Overall the structure to the class is very unclear and there also seem to be a constant shift of assignments.
Well, all I have to say is that this teacher is out of his mind. From the first day of class I sent him an email asked him a question about the syllabus and he responded by not even answering my question and accusing me already of using Ai to write an email ever since that day he hated me and he has accused three of my essays for Ai
Professor Concannon should stop teaching, terrible professor.
Takes forever to grade. There is always either a quiz or assignment at the end of class but he yaps a lot so we never have time to complete it. It's annoying when he pairs you up with a partner (he does this a lot). His "feedback" is always a sentence. He is a nice lenient guy but I don't recommend his class itself. Didn't learn much.
I was in his spring 2025 class and he was very clear and open with things although he was kinda sarcastic and tough when things weren't going well but he is overall positive
I took him for two classes, because I liked him the first time around. Readings aren't too much to do, but he does give quizzes. I liked most of the assignments and the readings, and he helped me on my drafts--you just have to visit his office. Brings candy and overall chill if you do the work.
He wanted to fail me while having an A and wanted me to retake his class just because I didn't submit an extra credit, Racist professor and super rude against immigrants . Got into an argument because of my political beliefs as an international student. Had to retake the class with someone else.
I honestly loved this professor, I could understand how it could be difficult but going to class and genuinely doing the work is insanely worth it. I am taking him again for another different class next semester. I recommend going to office hours and genuinely using his feedback, I got As on all of my papers doing that.
If you're even thinking about taking his class, do it. He's enthusiastic and his energy rubs off on everyone, and the topics are pretty interesting. You can tell he really loves what he's teaching, and it makes the whole class feel more fun. The group work actually helps people bond too, so it was a class I actually wanted to go to.
Just wrapped up the semester and the final exam was long, but honestly this was the most fun I've had in an English class. Yeah, there are quizzes, but the reading load isn't that bad. He always brought in videos or something extra to keep us awake. I'd take him again if I could.
Really nice guy. Lots of assignments are short and just for completion. For tech comm. there is a 15 min final presentation at the end of the semester for your final exam. Very understanding and he keeps the classroom in good energy.
I really liked Mr. Concannon! I loved listening to him lecture about articles we would read in class. The only thing I would say is I never knew what my grade was until after the final exam. He's not very organized or fast with assignments and grading them. But he was very helpful whenever I asked questions! I would take him again for sure!
