awesome guy, funny, good teaching style, very helpful and clear.
LOVES PHILOSOPHY! He wants you to learn and do the very best that you can. He encourages everyone to come for extra help and he really does help you to boost your grade and understanding. I highly recommend taking him. He is a a great man.
Favorite teacher EVER. Nicest, most sincere guy on earth. will do anything to make sure you get a good grade and understand everything. he'll do anything for ya, but u obviously have to put stuff into the class. but trust me, youll want to put stuff into it cuz he'll make u love whatever hes teachin
AMAZING! The most encouraging professor I've ever had. If you take a class with him, you will NOT regret it.
makes civ interesting..has a refreshing teaching style
he's an amazing teacher. will make you interested no matter how much you weren't to begin with. cares about you personally
AWESOME!
Nicest guy ever. Goes out of his way to help the students. Post extra notes on angel and gives hints for the exam. I actually understood philosophy for the first time ever this semester. However the only negative thing is he assigned a lot of reading and expects u 2 discuss it in lecture.
Awesome... won't take a PHL course from any other guy besides him in the department because the rest just don't do a justice after taking a class with him. He'll do what he can to help you get your grade up and help you understand everything.
he is the best
Best teacher I have had at this school. The material is not super easy, but he goes out of his way to help you out and is very approachable. He makes the material as clear as it is going to get. Take him if you can.
Best professor here.Puts so much time into teaching and will do whatever it takes to help his students. The material is challenging but he presents it so clearly that its easy to understand.Go to his office hours with a paper and he'll spend as much time with you as it takes to help you do well onit
Dr. Costello is without a doubt the best teacher I have ever had. EVER. His class has forever changed how I experience the world. If you have the opportunity, you MUST take a course with this amazing individual.
I absolutely love this dude...best teacher ive ever had, bottom line.

Best Professor at Providence College. Will do anything to help his students
Not to sound redundant but one of the best teachers ive ever had. Will help you as much as you need it and just really wants his students to do well and most of all understand what is being taught.
...wow. has such a passion for his sunject and really gets us thinking. so helpful, fair and extremely intelligent. challenges you to think out of the box. he is an an unbelievable professor and an even better guy.
YOU DA MAN COSTELLO!!!!!!!! makes you think and challenges you...makes even the most difficult philosophy easy to understand and is an easy grader too...i love this man, him and santos make the best civ team ever
Best philosophy teacher on campus. Very clear and understandable. Wants his students to understand the material and will go out of his way to make sure that you do. Very helpful in regards to papers just go early to talk to him as there is often a line during his office hours. Take his classes, you will not regret it.
He is a good professor but assumes that everyone is not as smart as him, which gets WICKED old. He forces philosophy upon his students in civ. He loves his students and would take a bullet in the face for them... He is good looking too ladies
get on his civ team! u will totally get everything having to do with philo
Awesome
Amazingly helpful and open teacher. He will do anything to help his students, and knows his stuff. Explains philosophy in a way thats accessible to every student, and does it with style and a sense of humor. I always want to go to his classes, and I leave feeling enlightened. Hes the kind of teacher that makes you want to do well.
What can I say about Dr.Costello other than he will make you like philosphy.Had him for 2nd year civ andseminar professor.Cares more for his students than any other teacher I've had.Hates grades and tells you that himself. If you show genuine effort, read his philosophy and participate,he acknowledges that with good grades.best teacher Ive had so far
Greastest teacher ever. I hated philosophy and never thought I would ever understand it until I had Dr. Costello. He does make you work very hard, but if you do, it will pay off!
You'll write a lot in his philosophy class. However, his lectures are amazing and the atmosphere in his class is very relaxed and open. I would recommend having the Costello experience while you're at PC, you won't forget it.
Dr. Costello is pobably one of the best pofessors at PC! He makes impossible material understandable and I actually liked attending his lectures. He had a way of relating the material your own life. Without a doubt I recommend him to take. He trully cares about his students.
just take him!
All around great guy and a great teacher too!
Dr. Costello is one of the greatest teachers at PC. All of his classes are completely interactive, and he teaches very well even in a large classroom setting. TAKE ANY CLASS WITH COSTELLO IF YOU CAN!!! YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!!
keeps kids really interested in civ lectures, a cool guy. HUGE LIBERAL AGENDA. Makes philosophy interesting, except his lectures ALWAYS come back to how he's poor because PC doesn't pay enough to its professors. last time i checked, college professors weren't poor...for a liberal, he talks an awful lot about money.
Seriously, one of the best teachers at PC. Gives EXCELLENT lectures. Take HIM!
GET ON THIS MAN'S CIV TEAM! Costello will change the way you look at philosophy=> he can actually teach it in a comprehensible way. Overly eager to help anyone who asks. I'm asking this guy to write one of my letters of recommendation to law school. COSTELLO YOU'RE THE MAN! (he reads these reviews)
What is everyone talking about? Costello is a dreadfully boring teacher.
Very genuine and understanding, cares more about his students learning than mere grades. Relates philosophy to modern life. TAKE HIM!
Anyone thinking about a grad degree in an academic field would totally benefit from his upper-level courses. They're pretty similar to grad school both in form and content, so take advantage of the opportunity to test the waters!
A great guy and a fun teacher. Actually makes you want to show up to Western Civ. Encourages classroom discussion, but doesn't put anyone on the spot. A joy to have as a teacher and the best one I have had a PC so far.
A teacher who cares about his students and what they have to say. Will work with you in order to make sure you are truly learning and performing your best. And with most great teachers, hates the grading system.
Best teacher ever! His classes will change your life and he is very understanding and sypathetic to his students. A real, genuine person.
Proff Costello is without a doubt the best teacher I've had at PC thus far. He makes his class interested in tough material, and makes you understand it. He promotes discussion, and makes people look forward to Philo lectures. I have the privilege of having him for seminar as well, and i could not wait until every seminar! great teacher take him !
Costello is a God walking amongst us in academia. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy eats nothing but ambrosia. Seriously though Costello is probably the most caring professor at Providence College, will literally walk across a pit of fire filled with cobras so that his students will understand. if he can make sartre clear, he must be divine.
Great professor. Make philosophy interesting - so interesting that I wish I needed to take more philosophy courses. Very into class participation, which is a nice break from a semester of boring lectures. He does require a lot of writing, so be prepared to write a lot.
The best philosophy professor at PC
nicest person and nicest professor on campus. makes references to family guy on a daily basis. will literally have you laughing through an entire lecture of sartre. should consider a career in stand-up comedy.
Costello is awesome. He is a great teacher and is always wiling to chat about anything. I wished I had had him for seminar, and I'll take him for something else later on. If you want to learn and stay interested, take him!
Costello was my first philosophy teach and i loved him. he as a good sense of humor and knows how to make everyone feel good in the class. I took him in the summer and im looking forward to talking him for another philosophy class. he is great on remembering his students name on the first day of class. If you show effort, read the books assigned an
Always made sure that every student left each class with a better understanding of what we read. He always had us thinking
The definition of a perfect professor. Passionate, understanding and truly cares about his students. Actually helps you to understand philosophy. Moderate work load, assignments aren't bad, great class, show effort/interest and you'll be fine. Awesome guy!
This is a truly Socratic course. Dr. Costello is the best. He made these philosophers relevant to today and encouraged dicussion. I learned a lot and had fun at the same time.
Great Professor, you won't get any better at PC.
Dr. Costello cares about students and about philosophy. Writing papers for him seems hard at first, but he helps you with sample outlines and reads drafts. He loves what he does.
Dr. Costello has changed my life and encouraged me to learn. His teaching philosophy, humility and positive attitude towards education is a breath of fresh air. He actually cares about the students and education, which is nice for a change. Every professor should take notes from Costello. God Bless Costello.
helpful teacher. is very approachable and you feel like you can actually speak your mind and disagree. truly cares about students and definitely a worthwhile class.
This guy is AMAZING! I never liked philosophy before but he makes it so easy and interesting. He used Spongebob and Thomas the Tank Engine in his nietzsche lecture. Truly care for students. If you can TAKE THIS GUY!!! PS he hates Civ and doesnt read the books
Really good teacher, cares about the students. Wants to see you do well. makes philosophy interesting
Great teacher, knows what he is talking about even if he acts like he doesn't
I cannot say enough postive things about Dr. Costello as a teacher and also as a person. He really does care about his students -something hard to come by at PC. I really did not like phil, but he made me have a new found appreciation and liking to it. I HIGHLY recommend him.
Great class. I recommend taking him.
Dr. Costello is a very nice man. He really cares about you understanding the material and will help you understand even the hardest readings. He is really funny and loves when you participate. Take his class and as long as you show up and participate you will get an A like me.
What a thoroughly delightful man. The material was challenging but he made it accessible and fun. I would take another class with him in a heartbeat if I wasn't graduating.
This man is AMAZING!! This is the first time I am getting an A in civ - he's such a great teacher! He cares a lot about the students and makes otherwise unlearnable material learnable and even interesting. Great prof!
His lectures are very clear and engaging. He makes philosophy interesting and his classes are something to actually look forward to. He can be quite funny at times as well.
Hes the man...helpful, funny, and engaging. He should do a mandatory course on how to teach that all other professors should attend. Possibly the best professor at PC. If you win the "class registration lottery" and get this guy...enjoy every second. Something that the administration got right when hiring this guy
can't say enough about him. made going to class awesome, very interesting and great at teaching the material. the best teacher at PC and possibly the best teacher i've had in my whole life. you need to take a class with him
Absolutely outstanding professor and great person. Have no interest in philosophy but he made it relevant and approachable while still maintaining a respect for the texts and their writers. Only drawback is he's kind of mopey sometimes... not exactly a ray of sunshine, but such a nice guy and genuinely interested in his students.
If you are looking for a professor who truly cares about the material and you, then you have to take a class with Dr. Costello! He is genuine in everything he says and accepts each person's input to be genuinely helpful and will make it a point to include each person in every lecture and topic. Because he genuinely cares, the class is demanding.
really positive and cares for his students. :) as long as you show the effort you will do fine :)
Took a 3 week intensive General Ethics Class with Dr. Costello and he is great. We covered 6 great works in 3 weeks and he was very supportive and encouraging. Would definitely take another class with him again.
AMAZING! One of the best professors I've ever had at PC. He really understands how students feel about civ and tries to make the class as easy and enjoyable as possible. Take him if possible!
Best professor I've ever had. He's an outstanding human being, and I learned a lot from him about DWC and life in general. He's extremely encouraging, and wants every student to succeed. He LOVES participation and the best part is, no one is ever wrong. He genuinely loves teaching. By all means, take him.
Nicest teacher I've ever had but difficult class. A lot of reading and writing but understands when people are overwhelmed. I definitely recommend but not an easy A
Dr. Costello wants all of his students to succeed. His classes are a lot of work, but he makes them very enjoyable. He is open to new ideas and willing to work with students. Best professor I have had thus far.
Dr. Costello gave us interesting books to read. Great help on papers. Recommend
Best professor I have ever had in my entire life! Definitely recommend anyone to take a course with him and get to learn the philosophy within the world taht we are all part of. Take him!
Best professor at Providence College. LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Cares about students and their learning and will do anything to help all students succeed. Extremely intelligent and pasionate about philosophy and will make philosophy interesting and relatable to current issues. life changing experience to be in class with him. TAKE HIM!
One of the most interesting classes I have taken at PC. Phenomenology is Costello's speciality. He makes it so clear to people who don't understand this stuff and are just taking it for a core. He is also the most kind and caring professor at PC. He actually talks to you and understands his students. He could make literally anything interesting.
Peter was great! This class was taught with two others. However, he really got you thinking about the topic and was always open to your opinion. He would also challenge you to think deeper.
Tons of reading and writing but he's there to support you the whole way. Very insightful. Fair grader. Would definitely take another class with him.
I took Intro to Philosophy with Dr. Costello, and I just I have to say he is the man. He truly cares about his students and although there is a fair amount of reading, everything's interesting. Even if you didn't understand the reading, in class he'll help you understand. No tests but two midterm papers that aren't bad if you put in the effort.
Dr. Costello is one of the nicest professors at PC. I had him for CIV, which made me want to take Phenomenology with him. After taking this high-level marathon philosophy class with him, I still think he's one of the best. He is very understanding and works through the material with you. I thoroughly enjoyed his courses and wish he taught more!
Best teacher ever! I feel so fortunate to have taken his class.
Probably the best teacher I've had at Providence College. Not only is he very funny, he gives great lectures that are very interesting. You have to write lots of papers. Each paper I submitted was just a copy of my notes. Easy A for sure.
A lot of writing. Even more reading. Apply both to complex material. But worth it.
Great style
I'm convinced this guy is the reincarnation of Socrates. I always leave his class mind-blown. He changed how I see the world. He gives three papers that are doable. Easy homework assignments online. Super flexible, funny, and understanding.
Dr. Costello is such an amazing professor. I genuinely loved going to his class every time. He encourages participation even though its not required, and you are never made to feel like you cannot say what you think. Lots of reading/writing, but the material is eye-opening and well worth your time. I would take him again in a heartbeat.
Dr. Costello is such an inspiration man. He is willing to share his opinions, but it also accepting of others' opinions as well. He makes a long class fly by and has the best wardrobe on campus. I have taken him twice now.
Prof. Costello is wonderful. His lectures are fantastic and he can make philosophy entertaining, as well as thought-provoking. He is a fair grader and truly cares about his students. You will have a large amount of reading, as well as essays, but the material is interesting. I would definitely recommend his classes! He is enthusiastic.
He's awesome! He truly cares about every single one of his students. I've had him for a few classes and I loved all of them. He teaches philosophy and he explains everything. He makes philosophy very simple. His class: mostly discussion based (anything you say is right) and mostly essay based and he is an easy grader.
Dr. Costello is amazing. He really is such a kind, caring, and genuine professor/ person. He wants his students to succeed and to enjoy the last semester of Civ. I definitely recommend taking him if you get the chance to!
If you have the chance, take any course taught by Peter. He's truly one of the best professors at Providence College. He is intelligent, accessible, caring and funny. His class was truly an enjoyable experience.
Costello is an amazing teacher. I had him for my last semester of civ and it was the best semester yet. Highly suggest taking him for colloquium. You have to do some reading and participate but you learn a lot and its worth it. Easy grader
Peter is an incredible man and an even better professor. Taking such a high-level philosophy course as a science major could have been a death sentence, but Peter made the field of phenomenology accessible to ALL his students. He cares about student progress, student learning, as well as personal development. Put in the work, and you will succeed.
I have had him for multiple semesters. He really cares about his students and how they progress through his course. He loves listening to his students and he cares about them inside and outside of class. He is one of those professors who will change your life.
If you can take any course with Dr. Costello DO IT he is by far the best prof I've ever had. I would actually look forward to going to his Civ lectures. He makes students contributions feel valued, and each class I walked away feeling like I really learned something important. He does look for your best work, but he works with students. TAKE HIM.
Great teacher, loves to help his students. PSP is a pretty liberal major, but he welcomes political discussion from both sides (can't say the same of his students). Grade is based almost entirely off of one huge term paper.
Peter is one of the best professors at PC! He genuinely cares about students' ability to thrive (flexible deadlines, always willing to write letters of recommendation). Course texts are written by authors of diverse identities and he isn't afraid to talk about what really goes on at PC. You're missing out if you don't take Peter before graduating!
Professor Costello is the nicest and most understanding teacher at Providence College. If you have the opportunity to take him, you have to.
Professor Costello is one of the best profs at PC. He genuinely cares about his students, discusses issues concerning the PC community, and to describe him as understanding is an understatement. If you can, definitely take a class with him!
Peter is the absolute goat, knows material is hard and tries to make it easy. Never seen a teacher so passionate. Hilarious, makes the marathon fly by. One of those teachers you’ll never forget, for good reasons.
Peter is the best professor at PC. He cares for his students and truly wants the best for everyone. I have never not wanted to go to his class. Everything this man says is interesting and has changed so many of my perspectives on life. His classroom feels like the safest place on campus. If you have the chance to take one of his classes, DO IT.
If everyone was like Peter, all the problems in the world would disappear. You CANNOT go to PC without taking one of his classes. I suggest taking him freshman year so you can experience 6 more semesters with him. He will change your entire perspective on life. The best man on the planet.
Peter is not just a fantastic professor, but a tremendous person. He is a rare breed of professor in the sense that enables students to share their own philosophical viewpoints, regardless of whether or not he agrees with what you are saying. He is extremely understanding about things occurring outside of class, and most of all, cares.
The BEST professor at PC. Caring and very intelligent. He gives the best feedback on everything and truly values what everyone says. You cannot go to PC without taking this man. The G.O.A.T.
Best professor at pc! He is so caring and wants all of his students to do well. He created a good atmosphere in seminar where it wasn't stressful to participate. No quizzes, exams, or final just 2 4-page papers, a 10-page final paper, and weekly discussion posts. He's a very generous grader. You're definitely missing out if u don't take him
This is the best professor at Providence. Take him if you have the chance to.
Peter is a great professor. He is extremely knowledgeable and understanding. You will have essays to write but he will help you and understand if you need an extension. Great professor.
Dr. Costello is the most caring and excellent teacher I have ever had the pleasure of having. The class is based on different books throughout the semester and then would have writings on them. He never expects participation, but his style of teaching will make you want to contribute. Excellent grader and rated Professor of the Year last year.
Prof. Peter is an amazing teacher who makes even the most challenging material engaging. His passion and humor make the classes fly by. Definitely take him if you can - he'll change your perspective. For study help, try out unstuck study along with the textbook.
If you get the chance, take Dr. Costello for philosophy. Easy grader, super nice guy, genuinely cares about students and their well-being.
Peter is awesome!!! He gives great grades because he really just wants you to give the best you can. He makes class interesting and funny. Definitely take him for philosophy if you want a good grade and to enjoy class.
Awesome professor and an even better person! Super easy class with fun, entertaining lectures. He really cares about his students, gives helpful feedback, and makes the class feel relaxed and supportive. Definitely recommend!
Best professor ever!!! I love this man so much and would take him again if he is teaching any classes I need to take. Participate in seminar and you will be set. He actually cares about what you think and say and just wants participation.
Peter was the sweetest person ever and very flexible and understanding.
