This guy never could do a problem on the board without a student correcting his mistakes. Avoid his classes at all costs.
He is very tough as a teacher, and he comes off as very rude, mean and ****, but if you can get past this, you will have the greatest math class of your life. He is extreamly qualified, and a wonderful teacher. You will learn more in his class then anyone else, but be ready to work.
Avoid him, transfer to another school for your advance math credits. He literally gets a kick out of seeing his students fail. The tests are not from the book, the material taught is all made up. He makes alot of mistakes showing you the material. He'll make your math experience painful unless you enjoy to be tortured his retention rate is verybad.
Try to avoid this professor if you can. He's really mean and really hard. If you ask a question, he laughs at you then proceeds to speak to you like a 4 year old to make you feel even more stupid. I would never take a class with him ever again.
Only for the truly committed student. He has little sympathy for those who don't study hard, and few students appreciate his corny and sarcastic sense of humor. But if he sees you are a hard worker, he eager to do everything he can to help you, and it will be the best class you ever took.
Does not care if you can keep up with the new material, only cares about meeting his chapter goals.
He was very helpful. He is funny and really loved the subject. I studied hard, but I pass with good grade. The exams are not easy, but is basesed on the book. You definetely learn...
Avoid this teacher like the plague. He is a nice guy at heart, but as a teacher, he is mean. Plan to work extra hard in precal with thi guy. Make friends in the class, they will help you survive.
Great proffesor for math professors.
He is a mean man and a horrible teacher. i would never wish him upon anyone and truly enjoys failing students.
WHEN LEARNING A NEW LANGUAGE IT IS IMPORTANT TO HEAR SOMETHING MANY TIMES. THIS TEACHER SAYS THINGS ONCE AND EXPECTS YOU TO REMEMBER EVERYTHING. HE HAS FORGOTTEN THAT SOME STUDENTS DO NOT KNOW THE LEVEL OF MATH THAT HE DOES. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
I strongly agree with everything negative written about this teacher. He is mean, has the worst sense of humor ever, he does not care if you understand or not, he expects you to know what he has not even explained clearly. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES! trust me.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!! Tough grader. Calculus is hard and he makes it harder by not explaining it clearly. Plus, he always uses his anger tone when the student asked him to explain the problem again.
He is mean! I felt so bad taking his class! I always felt aggravated his way of teaching. Hope he will be a little considerate to understand that not all or most students are smart like him! But i know i can handle that,i can go as fast as he wants but what i cant handle is his attitude! He dislike to be ask, I wonder why he is still teaching???
I agree with most students hwe doesnt know how to teach and just because he is smart it doesnt mean we al are bornt learing math!
He is really mean, and everytime I ask a question, he makes fun of me. He's a miserable lonely man. I'm met with a cynical, careless man when I ask a question. He's mean, he goes TOO fast, he doesn't care about anyone that may not be able to meet hsi strict demands, and trust me, if you're bad at math, DO NOT TAKE HIM. SAVE YOURSELF THE MISERY.
He may be very sarcastic but he is not a mean person. the problem is with the student body. Most people and or students do not have a sense of humor. they are just boring people who dont know how to take a joke. daupern knows what he is talking about, yes he is very hard. But how is that a problem. this country has the lowest standards in math.
i agree with last comment. u think if an employer asks u to do something and you cant they wont fire you? All u have to do to pass is work hard and study hard. Daupern is hard but people in this country need the challenge. soon as people here are challenged they start to cry. if u want to be someody u have to work hard. You are all just lazy.
Great teacher with interesting teaching skills
You have to work hard but you know the material when class is done. Too manby expect to get an A for just showing up.No wonder the us is so low in math when people can get into college and not be able to do the basic skill;s. he may be hard but worthwhile
At first glance, Peter is a grumpy hard ass... Let him grow on you, because I promise you he will! I absolutely HATE math, after taking his course, I don't hate it as much but more importantly I understand it. The class is hard, and you have to show up to class and do the homework or you will fail. He is clear, concise, and VERY fair (eg - he giv
Avoid. He's bitter, sarcastic, jaded, and unwilling to help. He gets angry at students if they don't meet his outrageous expectations. I confronted him about it once outside of class. He "had no idea what I was talking about and didn't want to discuss it." Seriously? Never take a class with him.
He is a cool teacher. I liked his class.
Honestly, for all of you expecting an easy class, Daupern is not the teacher for that. He is a hard teacher and expects a lot of work from his students. I have had him for precalc and calc, and if you attend his recitations which he is kind enough to provide, you will succeed in math. Stop scoring him low because you are sensitive.
To all the people who rated him high...Struggle doesn't equal leaning. It just feels good when your done. Find another teacher because the university you go to doesn't care if you worked hard for a C.
I currently have him for 5 weeks of Calculus. I'm not sure if it's the condensed material or his style, but the class is very fast-paced and challenging. Probably both. Anyway, my comment to sum him up is that he taunts us on the large amount of work we have to do while he will be enjoying himself. He gives a brief apology but has a bad habit.
He is one of the best professors. He likes student to learn the material and very helpful. Therefore, students need to work enough. Additionally, he makes a lot of joke, so the class is not boring.
Challenging. High expectations of his students, but offers more recitation hours than any other math professor in department. Invested in student success, but not for those who want to coast through math.
Prof Daupern does not suffer fools gladly. In other words, if you ask a stupid question because you didn't do your HW, he'll explain it, but make you feel stupid. He really DOES want you to learn and he is VERY helpful outside of class, but you MUST DO ALL OF THE HW, and you cannot expect to coast. He's teaching for comprehension, not rote ability.
In my opinion: best teacher ever. Makes things clear and presents information in a very organized, cogent manner. He will give good answers to questions when asked. His class is tough--it's a lot of work. A lot of people dislike him for the level of difficulty they face in his classes, but seriously, this is college--you have to work for the grade.
Professor Daupern is great teacher. He told me the first day of class if i want a A in this class i need to do all the homework, spend some time studying and go to the recitations. I did everything he told me and went to all the recitations and i got an A for the class. GREAT teacher one of the best makes math very fun and he is also very funny.
Professor asks a lot of his students, but in return provides a comprehensive understanding of the subject. The grade will depend on the student's acceptance of the challenge. I have taken this class with other professor's before and failed. With this professor,I received a high mark. If is not what our professor's ask of us; it's what we ask of us
Honestly this is the best teacher I've ever had. Not easy, but then what in life is? He is very upfront from the onset that if you DO THE WORK!! you'll get the grade. He has a great(quirky) sense of humor so he makes class fun. He is a tough professor but very fair. Not the Prof. for an easy A but if you get an A you know you deserve it!!
Professor Daupern is one of the best professors I've ever had. I've taken 4 different classes with him and have succeeded in all of them. His classes are always going to be difficult, but he gives every opportunity to succeed. He is great at explaining the material and answering questions. He provides 7 hours every Saturday of his time to help.
This Professor makes you feel bad for asking a question, he is not helpful at al1! I dropped his class for not only those reasons but I felt uncomfortable with his sarcastic humor which is more like humilating. Anyways I dropped his class and took it with someone else and passed with a A+ that tells you something
This is one of the best teacher I've ever had. If you love math you should def take the class with him. If you hate it, don't do it or you are going to think he is not easy or helpful. Tests are based on homework. Do the work and you will be fine in this class.
This is the worst teacher I ever had! He yells his lesson at you and god forbid you ask him a question he makes you feel like an idiot. Say away...stay far far away!
Avoid him, he is very rude, making fun of people... confusing a lot
Horrible proffesor!! not easy to understand cant ask questions. makes you feel stupid.
This is a review for recitation. He is VERY helpful in recitation but a friend taking his class says he is extremely hard. I notice he tends to pick on lower math levels, especially if you can't keep up. A little rude and a dry sense of humor. He basically told a student that they should've learned factoring in fourth grade.
He's a real sarcastic math teacher. He won't go out of his way to help. He expects a lot from students. Not meaning homework but knowing your Algebra. If you don't come prepared prior to his class, you will fail. I really thought this class was to help you get ready for College Algebra but it definitely doesn't.
If you don't study, that will ultimately be the reason you don't pass his class with an A. If you don't do your homework, don't even come to class. Take responsibility for your own actions. If you like a challenge then enroll in his class. He is very intelligent and it would be an honor to be in his class.
He is so rude
He is a VERY tough grader, but still in the fair range. For higher level math he is fine, but if you are taking pre calc or lower AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
He's awesome and if he sees that you're genuinely trying he will go out of his way to help you. Also, if you don't keep up with the homework you WILL NOT do well.
Worst Professor I ever had. Daupern is not passionate about his career choice. He doesn't care about the students and would rather have everyone teach themselves. If you ask a question, he'll yell at you for not understanding the material. His idea of teaching is writing questions on the board, turning around and saying "get it?!, good. move on".
Daupren is the type of teacher who is there to give you a golden chance to learn Calc 2 more effectively. Yet, at the same time he often jokes in class and goes off topic. If you are really passionate about math, then you would not have any trouble passing his class. Yet at the same time, he can sometimes become rude in his office hours.
Taking diff, a bunch of students formed a study group. We had worked on a problem and hit a dead end. We asked Daupern for help, and he said keep working on it. We were, on our own and we figured it out. We went back with our solution, and he spent thirty minutes, helping us further understand the problem and solution. Awesome Teacher!
He is a really bad teacher! Although I got an A on his class, I had to learn everything at home because he didn't teach. He does not answer your questions and when he does, he makes you feel like a stupid student. PS: We had quiz every class. Also, he locked a student out of the class for 10 min during a test because he was a few minutes late!
I actually only experienced this guy for the weekly Recitations. How he still has a job is beyond me. He is rude, selfish, and condescending to say the least. I don't pay college tuition to be treated like a sub-human. Best advice don't take this professor unless you have the genius level of Albert Einstein otherwise you WILL be treated badly!
If you're taking this professor be prepared to teach yourself the material. He's been teaching so long that it's evident he doesn't know how to communicate mathematical material in a way regular folks can understand. I only choose his class because all the good professors were taken. If you struggle with math already run away from this guy
Makes you not want to ask questions, only graded assignments are tests.
This professor is a prime example of what happens when you give professors Tenure and a Union! This guy has checked out completely and has no desire to teach students. He wants to bark the material at you and you can figure out the rest on your own. His jokes are lame and I rather a professor wants to teach than tell me dry and humorless jokes.
Professor Daupern's classes are not for the faint of heart. Only test grades count. If you are a motivated Calculus/Diff Eq/Multivariable student, this is for you. Pre-Calc and lower? Don't bother! His tests are based on *everything* he says in class. Take rigorous notes! Do all the HW the *same day* that it was assigned! Ask questions! Good luck!
If you are mediocre or are looking for an easy A. Daupern's classes are not for you. He will CHALLENGE you and will make you work hard for a good grade. He gets annoyed by stupid questions and likes to crack a lot of corny jokes. Overall decent guy.
I'll echo the others by saying that if you're considering him for the lower math levels, find someone else. But if you're taking higher level math and consider yourself a serious student, you'll have a blast meeting one of NCC's most memorable professors. Amidst dry humor and failed jokes, he will both support and challenge you to grow.
This professor is not one for help. He gets annoyed when you ask questions very sarcastic! Not willing to teach you just runs through material and doesn't care if you understand it or not. I do not recommend him for Math 172.
He's awesome! His classes are somewhat challenging but if you do your homework and study you'll get a passing grade.
I was never the same after meeting Peter Daupern.
He is something else
Doesn't like to teach, or explain and he is mean and sarcastic and doesn't see it Don't recommend on his best day
He's a sarcastic person but has a good heart. He is always willing to help you after class hours. My class was struggling and he was kind enough to give extra credit and some easy quizzes to bring up our grade. He makes you work for it and he really does challenge you. He's a great person but his teaching style is not for everyone.
Professor Daupern is a great professor. There are always going to be students more ready to blame their professor than themselves for their lack of achievement. If you do every single HW problem, come to every class, sit up front, read your textbook and seek out help when you need it. You'll get As on the tests and in his class. He wont baby you.
He just really isn't a great teacher at all and grades on 3 tests which make up your whole grade. Dosen't give any partial credit on tests either, by far one of the worst math teachers I have taken. Highly recommend not taking him or switching out if you do get stuck with him.
Dedicated to your success
Very sarcastic and does lame jokes. He does not know how to teach, just writes problems the board and solves them in his own world without explaining. I would not recommend this professor.
Very sarcastic man and comes off rude to his students. Asking questions is an inconvenience to him and doesn't try to help you understand the material. The tests are decent and he gives reviews, but he will pick the hardest problems for the test. I highly suggest not taking him if you're not strong in math, as he's overall not a good professor.
Daupern will explain math lessons text book style, no passion and over complicated. He will ridicule you in front of the class if you even dare ask a question (seems to think students should already be experts). You're better off writing down the math topics and learning them later through videos. Will be tough if you have more classes.
he is challenging but you will be rewarded if you do the work. He is demanding which is nice of course since community college students often lack discipline
Yes Prof. Daupern is a tough cookie. But he explains tough concepts very well. The one thing I did not like is, if you had a question he sometimes will berate you for it.
His summer class is terrible. No lectures, expects you to learn all of the material by yourself, and bombards you with around 200 webassign problems per week on top of textbook problems.
A metric ton of homework, but gives lectures and videos for help. Expect to be pushed to your limits.
This is the most inconsiderate and insensitive professor I have ever experienced in my entire life and probably will ever experience. He gives no substantial lectures and bombards us with a lot of daily assignments. The class was online due to Covid19. Simply put, the only way to do good in his classes are to know the entire material already. :(
He praised me for my work ethic. He is very encouraging to students who he sees that takes the material seriously. Only have him if youre naturally good in math. I would study the chapters cold months before the class starts. Dont take His class if you have 4 other classes or work 2 jobs. You need to devote effort to pass. Want an A? Give 500%
He sent an email about exams and worded it in the weirdest way. When I sent an email to clarify he was a complete you know what. For truly no reason. I don't know what his damage is. Hope he gets it figured but he seems like the kind of person who goes to the grave bitter for no reason.
After just starting his class, there is no other word to describe it than horrible. He doesn't care about his students. I have emailed him asking for help multiple times and he doesn't respond. He is rude in his email responses. He doesn't teach you anything or put in any effort. Everything is graded through a website and "taught" through there.
Took the class as a summer course and used WebAssign for all material. Because it's an online program, it looks for specific answers so, even if you got the answer completely right, the program may tell you you were wrong or you may have typed in something wrong. This professor did not care and told me that my e-mails were a waste of his time.
Love the way he explains the concept of each lesson. Though he goes into detail in the beginning of the class, by the middle of the class he will just run through the lessons. The middle of the class was the toughest, but I made It through. The only bad thing I have to say is when you ask a question he does try to make you look like a fool.
Professor gave little, incorrect, or no instruction before homework/tests. You teach yourself with the homework and any online resources you have. Office hours are few and far between (if any) and if he is accessible over email, you probably won't get an answer that makes sense. If you can teach yourself, it's a fine class. Otherwise? Hard pass.
Peter Daupern is probably one of my favorite professors. Every Tuesday and Thursday I look forward to attending Pre-Calculus class because professor Daupern always put a smile on my face with his jokes! Yeah, the class could get challenging at times, but you'll get through it. If you have a good sense of humor, this is the professor for you. :)
I hope this teacher never teaches another class again. He is extremely rude to students and rarely takes questions during class lectures. He will either tell you to wait until the end of the class time or "figure it out on your own". Not helpful, assigns so much work and is a dick to his students... DO NOT TAKE DAUPERN
Best professor I've come across in math department. Very fair grader, will go out of his way to find extra points for your test from your written work. Makes funny jokes almost every lecture. Easy to understand the material provided. Lot's of homework for practice examples. Always available for questions and extra help. Totally recommend!
Professor Daupern is possibly my least favorite teacher I have ever had. Rude every time I interacted with him. Grade boils down to 4 or 5 tests, and the time limit on the online tests is set very short for how time intensive each question is, and how hard typing the answers properly is. Run run run from this professor!
I took this class in winter and he never responded back to see if my homework was fine. I had the worse experience because I lost the money and time.
Either gave too little time between assignment due dates to complete them, or gave too little time during quizzes or tests to reasonably finish them. Communicated very sparingly, even when attempting to use the methods requested in the syllabus (discussion board and email). Take as a last resort professor. Not impossible, just needlessly difficult.
by far the worst professor i ever had if he even deserves that title. he needs to retire early. completely rude and indifferent in every single interaction with him, whether it was webex or email. does not care at all about his students. terrible communication, too many weekly assignments, and time for tests was too short to fully complete. AWFUL
He is by far the WORST. The tests are long with little time not to mention he wants work to emailed and if he can't read it or it's not to his "liking" he'll mark the questions wrong even if it's right. His emails are rude and not to mention unprofessional. THERE'S A LOT OF HOMEWORK. I'm talking ten sections, 20-30 q's, with four days to do it.
This was one of the most challenging courses I've taken but Professor Daupern was good to do online because he could read my work and round some scores up because of my work. Wish I could've taken him in person to get to know him better.
AVOID!!!!! Long story short, I had to work to afford to go to school, Prof. Daupern said I was "not cut out for this course" amongst other things... I had to contact the head of the department to get a response from him He was condescending and completely unprofessional He provided no help or aid whatsoever. He sent us YouTube Vids from 2008...
Wouldn't recommend the class to anyone that wasn't born naturally gifted at mathematics. The lectures themselves were what I would call at the speed of lighting. When I asked a genuine question, it was always met with a very condescending tone and a sarcastic reply. This out of all my years at NCC has been the first course I have ever withdrawn.
I honestly wouldn't recommend Professor Daupern if you're not good in Math. His lectures were very lightning fast and was very rude when it comes to interacting with him. He also is unprofessional in his teaching style and ridicules you in front of the class. Professor Daupern does seem to help students and pressures students with hard questions.
I frankly wouldn't suggest taking Professor Daupern. He teaches in a lighting speed manner and doesn't seem to help students. Professor Daupern uses hard questions to pressure students into doing them. He also enjoys making weird jokes and ridicules students in front of the class when they do mistakes. Professor Daupern has very terrible sarcasm.
This professor never teaches on online and the way he works is to dump so much homework. I don't know he is helping any kids to grow, or he is an asset to NCC. Students better stay away from this guy.
Puts very little time into the class. Does not care
I recently took Professor Daupern's Calc 2 course and I must say, he has to be the worst professor I have ever encountered. He assigns a tremendous workload while refusing to offer any assistance. I cannot fathom how he is still employed at this institution when he never teaches. He earns money by doing absolutely nothing to aid his students.
I took this course because it was required for my degree and out of all my classes, this professor has to be the worst. He does nothing to aid students, NO FEEDBACK on quizzes/tests that you do (you can't look at what you got wrong, and he doesn't tell you). All work is done on Pearson and no grades on BlackBoard either. Do not take his class.
The whole course is heavily weighted on the tests with very strict time limits. I would recommend avoiding, at least the online classes.
Don't take his class. Wasting your time and money. He is very rude. I emailed him and asked if he could help me point out what I did wrong on the test so that I could learn for the next one. He said I have so many problems and why don't I focus on my work. Please, that's what I am doing. I learned nothing from him but hold back my frustration.
I was going to get an A in the course until he canceled one of the tests at the last minute, picked a makeup I could not take due to an online error, and then didn't reply to my email until after the due date. Therefore, I failed the class because of HIM. He is rude and unaccommodating. I've not only wasted my money but also my time and effort.
Do not take this professor, YOU WILL REGRET IT. I took him for a summer online course and had to report him and the dean of this school for purposely not following the online course offerings. I ended up being granted a free withdrawal at the end of the semester for all this but it still was a huge waste of my time.
Professor Daupern is one of the most horrible professors I've experienced at NCC. He's extremely rude and unaccomdating. Professor Daupern has horrible humor, teaches fastly, and makes fun of student when they answer a question wrong. If you are student with disabilities, run away from him at all costs and don't waste your time taking his class.
Never ever take Professor Daupern as he is one of the most terrible and unpleasant professors I've experienced at NCC. He is extremely rude, annoying and unaccomodating along with insulting and berating students when they make mistakes. Professor Daupern also assignments a huge amount of homework for students. Don't waste your time with this man.
Professional state of CT bereaucrat since 2001
Avoid this professor's Calc 2 class at all costs. He provides no support, assigns heavy workloads, and is generally unhelpful. I found unstuck ai and ChatGPT much more useful for study prep.
I am not the same man after Peter Daupern.
By far the worst professor I have ever taken a class with even though this was an online summer class. Doesn't respond to emails on time, sent us videos on YouTube from 2008 to learn from and in terms of feedback the most you can expect from him is a two sentence email at least in my case.
Legitimately one of the worst teachers I have ever taken. His summer calc2 course has proctored exams although the course was marked as ONLN Asynchronous. Not helpful by email at all and during exams people would ask for help either with proctoring setups/exam access and he would just say "figure it out". Take any other professor.
This professor is so rude. I'm taking an online course and by accident. I took a practice test instead of the actual one and I emailed him right away and asked if I could take the test. He said that I called him senile and was extremely rude and not u restating to my circumstances. Very very unprofessional.
This was one of the WORST professors I've ever had. Extremely rude, condescending, and unhelpful. TONS of homework but doesn't teach. Exams are BRUTAL. Doesn't respect accommodations. If you ask questions he just tells you to figure it out. grades on two things (85% exams and 15% hw). Don't know how he's still employed!
Definately not worth taking Professor Daupern's class as it's a huge waste of time and money. He teaches in an extremely fast manner and doesn't wait to answer questions. Professor Daupern is extremely rude and arrogant when you interact with him, makes fun of students when they make mistakes, and makes students very uncomfortable.
Students watch Pearson lectures and complete homework. Professor Daupern is available during office hours. Overall, this online course is self-taught. Hours of homework for each unit. Professor is nice and seems to care, but the way his online courses are structured is not great for learning. Tests are graded fairly.
Professor is very rude, doesn't listen, when asking a question he gives a feisty remark worst professor ever.
