Not a bad instructor, very friendly, always willing to help you if you need it. His quizzes may be hard, but if you keep up with the assignments and study hard, you will do well in his class.
DeVries is an alright teacher. He is knowledgeable but isn't enthusiastic. The material is difficult but he curves tests. However, there are still too few tests. You don't have to go to class. It's an easy B but a hard A.
He's very boring and reads powerpoint slides, he does not know how to teach. If you read the book you will do just fine. He also curves and at the end of the semester he gives you a project which will really help out your grade. Take him- very easy.
His lectures are boring he only goes over the slides. He curves on all his tests. Is a easy B but a hard A course. Just study the terms he gives you and you'll do fine on the tests.
If you are good at long chapter reading and then taking MC tests, then this is the class for you. You also have a group presentation to do. He resembles a older 1990's sears catalog model for menswear. Made a low "A".
This dude only read things from his slides, and exams are totally far from those slides. everything from book. you have to memorising definations from whole book.i would suggest not taking him for n e class. i can teach that class better than him, lol.
teacher is boring. just buy the book and read the material at home.
If you read the book, you will recieve an A. If you come to class and don't read the book but pay attention and come to class for the review and study the review, you will make a B. Easy presentation to help final grade and article presentation to also help final grade. Overall, good teacher.
Class is boring, just reads off of slides and adds his own commentary. Just do the exam key terms and the study quizzes and you should be ok. The project also helps, as long as you put in an effort, he'll give you an A.
He is okey, about grades ... can make and easy B but hard A.Curves his grades. Need to read the book verbatim
Boring, Boring, Boring. Just reads slides and does not prepare you for the tests. Read the book for an Easy B...Hard A.
Devries is boring. He just reads all the slides in class. You don't really have to go to class only for the exam day. I would suggest you to take this class online.
BORING!!!No need to come to class, just read the book and study guides. Project really helps grade. Easy B.
Like everyone else said, hes boring. at times i didnt know exactly what to study. i guess u have to study it all, the book and the review. project is what really helps the grade out
He is extremly boring. His test are hard and he knows that. That is why he grades with a curve. He is a nice man but if possible find a better instructor.
I like his class. He is kinda of quarky and geeky. He will help you anyway he can. The key is you HAVE TO ASK!!! HE really is kinda cute in a nerdy sort of way. Eye candy from my perspective.
This class is so boring. He just reads off the powerpoint slides. I could do that by myself instead of going to class. The tests are hard and he doesn't curve enough. I made a barely C in this class.
Extremly boring. I would suggest you to take this class online, instead of wasting time to go to class. He doesn't really teach, but just reads off all the slides. His test are hard.
this class is so damn boring and there is sooooo much info to remember. You actually have to read the chapters, page for page because the exams are not just over vocabulary words, the exams are over everything that you read. his lectures are kinda helpful.
He's a nice professor, but the material is boring....what do you expect? It's MIS!! He curves, but you have to really read the chapts to make a decent grade. Gotta do 1 group presentation and present/summarize 2 articles. You might be better off taking this online instead of sitting through it.
I guess its not a secret anymore that this class is "falling to sleep" boring but he definately knows what he's talking about, just needs to make it more interesting, but hey!! theres really not much you can do when the material itself is already boring. Try to read everything in the chapters if you want to ace the test, he curves too.
There's only one thing to know for this class....READ THE TEXT and know definitions and you will be fine on the tests. If you don't read, you're likely not going to do well. One nice point is that he does curve.
this class is "falling to sleep" boring, this class is "falling to sleep" boring, this class is "falling to sleep" boring.
It's a very boring class, he just reads the slides. No review sheet for the tests, he won't let you know what will be on the tests, you just have to read the book! But he does curve. One group presentation & 2 articles.
So boring.
Take every test and get atleast a C on each.....then complete the easy prensentation and individual tech presentations....and you'll get a B.....try a little bit harder and you'll have an easy A!!!
This teacher is a very good professor! He is very clear, easy, and makes class fun! If CIS is your major, I recommend this professor because he is excellent!
Material is boring, but he makes it easy. You get a full review for each chapter. Know the terms and answers to questions. I made an A and I hardly ever attended class. I studied the reviews, took the tests, completed both articles (easy points!), and did an easy project (more easy points!). He tries to give you good grades. Highly recommended!
The easiest class u are ever going to take in college. Take this professor and it would be much easier. He expects you to memorize way too many terms ans concepts. WOw it is crazy during the summer. What helps is that it's all easy stuff. He's boring, but I am sure u can live with that. He wants everyone to make his/her A. I strongly recommend him.
It's one of those classes you can read yourself or go to class to view a thousand slides. Either way, he is easy. made a 70 on test1 and still made 90s on others for an A. No stress,
easy class, if i did my articles, i could have made an A. Attend class if you wish, but I found that studying the reviews and the key terms is enough to earn at least a B.
Teaches directly from a powerpoint dont really need book. only problem with this professor is that he gives certain students different tests. I mean completely different test and he hands out the test personally and certain test are harder than what your neighbor may have please beware.
You have to read the book, he gives curves and he grades easy
He is just fine, but this subject is really boring. 5 exams and one group presentation, and introducing articles on your own.
I dont know what the other people were talking about. Hes kinda hard. I have or should I say had a 4.0 until this class. I made a B and studied my *ss off. He picks the most random questions from the book but he does curve. you will need those points. i would try to take someone else if you could. the articles and the presentation are easy
I must say this was my slack-off class this semester while I battled my other 5 classes. My first "C" ever but I earned it. You dont have to be in class so I never was. You have to turn in a project after each chapter so I did that after everyone already moved on to the next. You have 10 min quizzes/chapter. You need the book to know VB. He is easy
This was a easy class just make sure that you read the book. He is a very fair professor, if you do the work and cant pass this class you shouldn't be in school.
Easy Class, Just study online notes and go to review the day before the test. I made a B and never used the book. All powerpoints are online. Very nice teacher and will help if you need it but the class material is not difficult
took him in the summer. the class is VERY BOREING. but not hard. 4 tests, 2 articles and one group presentation. His test are kind of hard but he does curve. you should be fine if you READ the chapters and study the powerpoint quizes. tests are not based on lecturers.
He is EASY Teacher, not attendance count, 4 test, 2 article and 1 group presentation, but his class little big BORED but EASY.
Lectures are booooring. Tests come from straight from the book. Easy A
I took him in summer session 1 and it was 4 test and 1 presentation. Test questions require that you read every chapter however they are very simple. Just definitions almost. He curves like 4-6 pts on every exam. If you cant pass him then you need to drop out and sell goggles.
This class was very easy. do the practice quizzes online and study the bold print in the book and you will do fine. For the project just stay within the time limit and you will get an A. Good class to take online
THIS IS THE TEACHER TO TAKE. Read the chapters and review the $10.00 premium content that is on UHD Vista and you will be ace this class. Most of the questions on his exams are from that premium content, however, you still have to read the chapters at least once to understand what they are talking about. I was going to buy the normal textbook from
This professor was great. The class itself is not hard. Tests are easy and knowing the terms is a must. Very boring class I fell asleep at times, but very easy. Highly recommended!
This class is not hard but you have to go over the powerpoint presentations online. Tests are not really hard and the final counts as much as a regular test.
I'm going to have to disagree with everyone that says his tests are easy. I didn't study much for any of them but the majority of the people in the class were making C's and lower on them. The group presentation is EASY. My group went 2 minutes over the time limit and still got an A. I don't see how anyone could fail this class with him.
Nice teacher, he gives many opportunities to pass his class. His tests are difficult but he curves them. Presentation and article are easy grades.
Ok I don't know what everyone else is talking about but the Professor was not all that easy. He wasn't ridiculously hard either... he was boring tho! he gave pretty easy assignments but the tests were hard. Would ask details that even he wouldn't be able to remember w/o the answer sheet sitting in front of him. Wouldn't necessarily recommend.
This guy is so-so. He uses these powerpoint quizes that re in class with a RF device. He picks questions that are in remote areas of the text. You must know all small details about reading for these quizes.
I liked this class. The material was interesting and pertinent. He stuck to a clearly outlined syllabus and graded fairly. I learned a lot but never felt overwhelmed. Go to class, take a few notes, read the chapters and study the key points and you should do fine!
If you are serious about using what you learn in school and applying it to a job you hope to have after graduation, then TAKE HIS CLASS! Assignments are reasonably scheduled and nothing is that hard, it's just new. OL simulations are easy if you take notes, exams are easy if read the book, great Prof. People who complain are the ones who don't study
Tests and quizzes are hard, even with the curve. He doesn't teach; the classes are mostly our group presentations. Nice guy, but soooooo boring. Great for computer science majors.
He's cocky but cool. Simulations are confusing but he'll add ~10 points to your overall grade. Exams are curved about one letter grade up. Read the chapters and understand them. Presentations are easy A. Made it out with a B...just 3 points shy of an A. Don't expect handouts from him, but he will give you many opportunities to do well. Recommended!
kind of has an attitude problem. I've seen him snap at students for really no reason. exams are a little difficult but the project is super easy. I only wish there was more clarity and feedback.
Does not teach. Will curve some. Have to be good at teaching yourself.
Class is structured around an actual project. Form up with a good team and you will be okay. Some of it is time consuming, but it's useful if you plan a career in CIS. There is one exam that isn't that hard if you study the book.
Just took him sumer 3 he is not hard just need time to study. He is a verry nice professor. Just suty the slideshow you will be fine.
One of my favorite professors, although some of the quiz questions are weird. He's incredibly nice and helpful and the class (online) is go at your own pace. I hope to take him again.
The WORST. I just took him in summer and did not learn anything because he only posts power points and expects you to read and understand the material from the book and if you have a question he will respond in 3 to 4 days and will recommend you to read the chapters again. Exams are extremely hard, ad tricky 50 questions in 50 min no reviews at all
Professor DeVries is a decent professornothing to shout about but no complaints either. His class is set up to test your knowledge retention from lower level classes. His class would be a breeze IF the lower level classes were taught with any sort of skill. The entire class is a project. Build a website with back-end database. Good Luck!
Plenty of quizzes, timed so read the chapters before attempting the quizzes. Questions are somewhat hard to understand. Read the book and you should pass.
Worst professor I have ever taken in 7 years. He just read the materials on the powerpoint for 2 hours, and he expects you to know everything. He also talks about his girlfriends in class. 100MC test and you have an hour. He expects you to read every questions on the test at the speed of light.
I completely agree with the person who said this is the worst teacher, but i would add lazy. All he does is read from the powerpoints he gets from the publisher. He has nothing to add to the class. You could just read the book and not go to class and get the same level of understanding.
Semester long project class with phase reports (4-5), meet only 4 times in a semester. Only 1 exam in the middle of the semester over 6 chapters (MC, 100 questions, 1 hour). CHOOSE YOUR TEAM WISELY because 16 weeks is a long time if your team doesn't work with you. Tough grader on reports (grammar)oral presentations (don't go over). Great class
This was an online mini summer course for me. This is a great teacher. 3 Tests are not hard, but gives 50 MC for one hour. We had a group project but it wasn't bad at all. Easy A if you read and do your part. I never had to email him since everything was very straightforward. I would definitely recommend and take again.
Gave tests with difficult wording to throw you off. Group project was a hassle and had little to do with the course subject matter.
Weekly quizzes (can do ahead of time), 2 team assignments and a project, 2 discussion posts, 1 critique paper of a lecture and final. Seems like a lot but really balanced. Never felt rushed or overwhelmed. Team project was probably the most time consuming creating a PowerPoint with your team. Good online class, final was MC 100 q's, no notes.
Weekly quizzes over each chapter, 2 discussion posts, 1 small paper, 2 team case study's and project, and final. It really isn't that difficult since you can work ahead at your own pace. The most challenging were the team assignments (because of students - not him) but, he is very specific on what to do and how to submit your assignments.
I've taken this professor twice and each time was a breeze! This class has 3 questions due for each chapter every week. 2 articles to find and write about, a video of yourself - super easy. 3 case assignments and a ppt presentation as a group (super easy). Only tests are the midterm and final. Questions are from everyones questions for each chapter
The class consists of a group project that is worked on all semester with your assigned group. One midterm exam is all for tests. Clear grader and tells you what he expects up front. He is a very reasonable professor and you can learn a lot from his class. The workload is not bad if you stay on top of your assignments. Would recommend for this class.
Weekly quizzes over each chapter, 2 discussion posts, 1 small paper, 2 team case study's and project, and final. Keep up with your due dates and follow instructions and you should be fine. The group project can be stressful (what I heard from others) depending on your team so choose wisely and should start asap. Final is comprehensive
We read all chapters from a business analyst for dummies textbook. We had to come up with 3 questions /chapter of our own to turn in for hw grade and the professor would pick them out and quiz us every week. test consisted of all the questions turned in along with 3 test and comprehensive final. one group project and 2 other assignments
DeVries has leadership roles because it seems like he has no desire to rule others. Moreover, he is an asset to UHD because of his capabilities, dedication and intense drive. Not only does Professor DeVries radiate a very sympathetic image to his co-workers (told first hand) but to his students. Furthermore, the students admire him.
Took it online. Only problem I had was the amount of material per chapter. The Chapter quizzes were not open notes. The Final Exam was comprehensive as well. Team projects can be a pain if your teammates aren't up to par. Couple small assignments here are there. Totally doable.
The professor is an excellent educator and well wisher of his students, goes above and beyond to explain the ERP learning materials and is knowledgeable on details of various softwares such as oracle, hadoop and various platforms such as saas, paas and iaas. Please do yourself a favor and pick him.
Quiz due every week. Has 12 quizzes a few group assignments and a group project and one final. Follow foreverincollege on quizlet to study for quizzes and the final. The quizzes are done through Lockdown browser so you have to be sure to study for them. 20 question per quiz but only gives 10 minutes to complete each quiz which is tough.
Great professor! He grades competitively in comparison with other students for essays and 3 group projects. If you don't put in the effort or get stuck with a bad group you will make a low grade. Assignments include 12 quizzes due weekly/3 Group Projects/ 3 Discussion Posts/ Final Exam. Quizzes can be turned in a week late. Take this professor!
My experience with this professor is anything but pleasant. He is very condescending and rude. You can automatically tell some people do not care about helping students, but they're just in it for the paycheck. Very funny how most of these reviews boasting about him all sound pretty similar? Beware of his antics and do not take him.
He literally copy/ pasted his answer to every student that complained about short test times. Chapters were very long and tedious. Have to memorize every word and quote. No final review so basically memorize all the chapters and hope you remember enough to pass. Wouldn't even give presentation feedback when requested before due date. Stay away!
2 quizzes/2 exams/final 100 ?'s rehensive /group ppt & video critique graded by comparison /2 discussions (easy) He provides no reviews or help, expects you to memorize the book as he picks random sentences to test you on. Each chapter is at least 40 pages-10 chapters. Quizzes are over 2chpt &exams are over 4 chapters. Uses lockdown for all
Great Professor but you do have to read a lot if you want to pass.
Since it was online I was expecting at least 1 or 2 zoom meeting but nothing. There are no test reviews so you are on your own. Quizlet is your best friend and MUST read the book. Group project is easy. Theres no extra credit but did curve the final exam. Respondes lockdown is required with camera for quiz & exam so you NEED to study.
Quizzes every week. Few group projects. Overall he was a decent professor.
Definitely take him, all his exams and assignments are online and opened up on day one. you can work on your own pace. just took him again next semester easy A
Took him for both 4340 & 4312. Laidback, curves tests sometimes. Good emailer, fast grader! Highly rec taking 4340 & 4312 same semester. The same students will overlap for both classes. Everyone wanted to graduate and they were a big help on GroupMe!
