He is the awsomest teacher ever....young sponky, and keeps you itesed
He Is awsome, very entertaining, very funny and is a great teacher , he helps you with ur essays and loks at your perspctive and doesnt judge the way you right.
Really? Look at the spelling of the other two raters. This guy's nice, but he's NOT a great teacher. It's an easy grade, and that's it.
"Francev" is an amazing professor/person. Every class session was helpful. I looked forward to class all the time. However, he is not an easy "A"--you have to work for your grade in the class. He forces you to look beyond the text, it was a critical thinking class after all. I wish he was teaching there when I had to take my other English classes.
Excellent professor. English 104 is a required class for transfer and is definitely not a class I would've taken otherwise. Francey made the class worth going to and kept his class interested and focused the entire time everyday. This is not a simple class and it required a lot of outside work. Not recommended for gum smackers.
Simply the greatest!! He really knows his stuff.
By far, the best teacher I've had the pleasure of having since I started at VVC. He should seriously be teaching at a University, not a community college.
Had Francev for both 101 & 104... He is passionate about his work, wants you to succeed beyond your preconceived idea of your self.
Francev is a nice enough teacher. He is a little hard to follow because he is off on strange tangents from time to time and strays from his syllabus. His grading is also very subjective. So long as you write your papers from his point of view you will do fine. He also uses a lot of profanities in his lecture, it caught me off guard at first.
Francev is very outgoing and uses humor with his lectures. He is very understanding. he is extremely helpful and makes sure you feel comfortable with your work.
Don't take his english 104 unless you can stand reading albert camus books the stranger, the plauge, the fall, the kingdom and the exile. In my humble opinion these are all boring as hell books so if you want an exciting class take someone else, if you want a boring class with an 16 page final paper go ahead and take this.
He was really flexible in the way he taught the class. His grading was reasonable and you could recieve extra help if you asked. However, he did not teach some of the fundamentals you need to know before taking Eng 104.
Great teacher. Really wants to get his students to become better writers. He offers his help during the essay assignment periods. I suggest you take full advantage of the days he gives you to come to class and go over your paper. He is there to help you, and is entertaining in his content. Best english teacher I've had & has made me a better writer
Great Teacher. He has shaped me into a much better writer. The books are a little boring, but he goes into detail in class with notes, so take notes. Take advantage of the days he gives you for peer review on your essays, he will help you greatly. Best english teacher I've had, has great personality/humor, made the essays/reading worth it!
Loved him. He Is amazing at teaching, A lot of writing and reading in his class but he makes it very enjoyable. I got to say its been the best class I have ever had in community college.
If you can put up with sarcasm this is the guy for you, although he is not as clear my english professors have been in the past he is okay. He takes time to go over your papers with you before they're due, has some okay stuff to read. Took this class for fun and ended up having to drag myself to class everyday.
Yes, Francev is sarcastic, but it is his sarcasm that makes the class interesting. He not only teaches the class how to look at literature (stories and poetry, mainly), but how to write about them. He is very patient when it comes to our essays. And he even has peer workshops so that you know what you're doing and can get the highest grade possible
Real awesome professor, enjoyed his perspective and teaching style. This class was lots of work but in the end it was worth it because I learned many new things.
He is a great teacher, sarcastic but very funny. Class was fun and interesting. He doesn't mind if you walk in a little late, but he also won't hesitate to say something about it either. He likes to hear your opinion but he wants you to back it up with evidence. I am taking him for Eng 104 next semester. Only calls on you if hands raised. )
Francev is why I have some hope for the teaching faculty at vvc. Dude is hilarious and always helpful when you need it. The class seems like a lot, but it really isn't. If he's available take him!
Had him this past summer for English 102,-Intro to Literature. Fantastic teacher! He was really funny, we read Hamlet, Wordsworth, and other short stories. All you need to do is read the stories from your textbook, do the research based on those readings, and write the essays. Plus, he gives out peer reviews for rough drafts, and he revises them.
Took Francev for 101 and i have to say that he is the best English professor at VVC. He is a bit tough on you but he only wants to prepare you for the real world. he cares for his students and is very helpful and really funny!! this was the only class i have actually enjoyed at VVC, i will be taking him again for 104!!
Took this class for the second half of spring 2015 and loved it. Studied Albert Camus, and I learned a lot about this author. We were a very small class but it felt more like a group of family members versus classmates. I really enjoyed Mr. Francev and his interesting lectures. We read a few stories and a few wrote a few papers. Great class!!!

Francev was the best Professor I have had so far. He responds to emails promptly and is extremely helpful in class. You can tell he loves what he teaches and is hilarious! Class was always great to come to and I never failed to learn something. I still pull out my old books and try to wrap my head around Camus' work.
Take Francev, he is awesome, super funny & makes class fun. At first I was nervous because of how difficult he makes the class sound the first day, but honestly, it's so doable! Don't stress, he wants you to pass, so just work with him & take notes! Research paper is not that bad, so don't let that scare you. P.S. Camus is awesome!!
Very helpful professor-- especially when it comes to the essays. stay on top of the reading and essays and you'll be fine. He's there to help his students succeed.
Francev is very helpful when it comes to understanding the readings and gives good critique to writings. He can be rude sometimes though. He tends to let his emotions get the best of him. If you can ignore is moody days, he is great!
I took this class to fulfill my GE credits for when I transferred to a university. After taking the 101 course, I continued on to take his ENG 104 during the winter semester. This class was fun and my writing skills improved greatly. If I had a chance to take a class from him again, I wouldn't think twice!
get ready to read and study Albert Camus! the class is a lot of fun if you're willing to work for your grade!
Class was not hard at all! Yes, you will have to write a lot ! 2-3 in class essays, 3 take home essays and a 15 pg final essay (take home). I didn't by the books, just went to class. Oh and he's smokin hot !
Professor Francev is a great professor. This is my first time writing a review and it is because i think he is worth a shout out. My writing skills improved greatly from taking his class. You will definitely work for your grade, but if you are continuing your education it is worth it. Thanks Prof!
The best English Professor at VVC hands down. He makes you work for a good grade, but that's how it should be. I've become a better writer since taking his class. Showing up to peer review is NOT mandatory but is a MUST if you wanna get a good grade. Make the class interesting for him and he'll do the same. Don't let the syllabus scare you!!!!!!!
I took Francev for my last semester at VVC and he prepared me in every way possible. This class was one of my all time favorites, he was super hilarious, and helped us understand the content in each Albert Campus novel. He definitely makes you work for your grade, and gives great feedback. HE WILL prepare you for university level.
I've had Francev for three semesters in a row. Unfortunately this was my last semester with him and that really saddens me. For the time i had him he was the best Eng teacher I have ever had. His humor takes a minute to get used to but once you know him you dish out what he gives you. If i could take him for all my eng classes i would (:
Took him in Fall 2016. All his lectures from Albert Camus are understandable. Get ready to read novels from Albert Camus. His grading material is fair. When being stuck on a paper, he offers workshops for him to review and how you can write your paper better. Easy class and left class with a B.
He gives 4 essays(homework) one is a research paper. There is also a midterm and final in class, each is a minimum of 6 pages and prompt is given the same day, It was a little tough. get ready to write some papers!! :) he is pretty hot though and can be funny, I guess his looks make up for the uninteresting subject. haha I am just happy its over.
This teacher was great! All of the lectures were hilarious. I loved going into this class. Lectures are very detailed. If you don't understand the language in poetry or Shakespeare, he has your back. Breaks down all of the reading. If you take good notes, this class can be very simple. Would most definitely take again, and recommend to everyone!
Excellent professor, Just finished Eng 50 now on to take his course in Eng 101. You can tell he really enjoys his students and loves to teach.
One of the most entertaining classes and teachers I have had In a while. Francev makes the class personable and actually wants you to become a better writer. Would recommend and take again. One of my favorite teachers so far.
I can't say enough good things, he is by far the best teacher I've had thus far in my life. He is passionate about the authors he lectures about and makes you work for the best paper you can possibly write. I've taken him 3 semester, but if I could I would have taken more. Teachers like him and rare and never forgotten! Sharktastic!!
Francev is amazing! If you get a chance to take his classes TAKE THEM. I always looked forward to his lectures and he is hilarious. There is a lot of reading and writing, but he is willing to help you in your writing process with peer workshops. He cares about his student's progress and is always willing to help! I will definitely take him again
Disliked his class .Didnt get me any feedback on any of my papers. Plenty of essays & reading . I wouldn't take him again .
Francev is AMAZING! Teaching style: knows his material soo well and is willing to accomodate with each student to make it clear. Super sarcastic & funny Classwork: you will need to read, mainly Albert Camus. 2 essays, essay midterm, and final research paper Grading: fair and clear criteria. Go to the workshops because THIS IS WHERE YOU REALLY LEARN
Was an "Okay" professor. He didn't teach how to properly cite sources from an online source let alone a book source because all you use for books are books that he has been partially written himself. he is the only person who uses them so good luck with book buy backs. he's not the best teacher so I don't really recommend him
Mr francev is a wonderful teacher, he is willing to help you pass your class just get ready to read
Francev is a great teacher and is extremely funny! if you want to improve your writing take his class! he helps his students so much and his class was super fun!
Amazing professor! Would 100% recommend. He goes over the material word by word & only assigns a few essays throughout the semester. Very thorough with teaching, & really great professor. He makes the material interesting & there was never a dull day of class. Would definitely take again.
I have only been at VVC for a couple semesters, but there's no doubt in my mind that he is, and will always be, one of the best professors out there. He helped push me to be my very best, while also helping me gain confidence. Choosing him as an english professor is the best decision a student could make. Be prepared for endless jokes and sarcasm!
The best English class ever. Took him twice already for English 6 and know 45. He gives good feedback on your essays, there is a lot of writing but he help you out a lot with your paper so you can become a better writer. I would recommend this class for anyone thinking of taking his class.
Look, if you are one of those students that hates doing work don't take his class. You need to write essays, read a ton and it won't be one of those easy A classes. He is an amazing professor that will prepare you for your UC or CSU. oh and learn to take a joke if you're going to take his class
Hes cool
Take advantage of his peer workshop he mainly knows what he wants to see on his papers. 3 essays were given and buy all the books you will need it for all your essays. Be sure to read the assigned books and using the journals as your secondary sources. Hes hilarious and I loved his lectures, he provides info needed for each book.
Petey is such an awesome teacher. I have never written a review on this site, but felt compelled to after taking his class. I was a highschool dropout who was never introduced to poetry. Pete really opened my mind into decoding between the lines, and he helped me build a strong foundation in the critical thinking aspect of reading. definite pepper
Francev was an amazing professor. He really broke things down and made you think. We would have peer reads which were not mandatory every time we had a paper. During that time many people wouldn't show up since it "isn't mandatory". However, this would give you a chance to improve your paper and he would even look over it and give you some tips.
Best english professor I've had, by far.
Very funny and caring. Likes to make sure you truly understand the materials. Sometimes he would cancel in the middle of class bc he said he was tired, and would give us more days to read the assigned material. The only drawbacks in my opinion is that you have to buy all the books and theres like 12 of them, and they cant really be used again
Amazing professor not only in English but just an amazing person overall
Professor Francev was awesome. He would have a lot of workshops and he would often let us chose our essay topics. Homework was about average and there was an average amount of reading. Highly recommend. Watch for his sarcastic and hilarious jokes.
Professor Francev is the only college professor to make a difference in my life. Take him! The class is enjoyable, the reading material is great. Goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the readings. Work hard and you will pass. Took him for multiple classes. I wish all my college professors cared about our education like he does.
Literally the best teacher I've ever had throughout my school years. He's hilarious while still being able to stay on topic. He gives great feedback and really wants you to succeed, a very genuine person and teacher.
Francev is funny while clear with his lectures. He keeps you interested in the topics and opens your mind to new ideas and thoughts. He is un-bias in his gradings and gives you the opportunity to fix your mistakes. It would be hard to fail his class.
Literally one of my favorite professors while at VVC. He's funny and very clear about what he wants on his papers. He'll help you if you ask him. Dont be scared to ask him for help! He even emailed me when I transferred to a 4 year asking how it was going!
Francev is awesome, hilarious, a fair instructor. He is explicit and has his students read a lot. He helps with the reading, however, and theres a lot of essays too do, but thats mostly all youll do. You truly get back what you put in grade-wise in this class.
Hes very sarcastic and loves to joke around hes an amazing teacher. Ive taken him for several different English classes because Im an English major and for every class he was an easy A. Not much work depending on what class you have him for and hes an easy grader. Definitely recommend.
Showed up to class and got a A on every essay, but my final grade was a C.
Prof Francev was a cool instructor overall. He's funny and very sarcastic, so if you're easily offended look elsewhere. I enjoyed having him as a professor, but his grading was not all that fair. If you get about 2 errors on a paper, you'll get a B-.. Don't think I would take him again, but I did enjoy lectures.
You ever walk into a class and be happy to be there? Well his class will do it. He made English inviting and his lectures were amazing. He gave out all the assignments for the year on day one. Buy all the books, trust me, you're going to need them. He's a fair grader and tells you what you need to fix. Class is easy if you follow prompt directions.
When I took this teacher I was scared Id be a terrible writer especially compared to my past classes. Not only that, I HATE reading and there is loads of reading. But the bright side is, the content you have to read is really interesting, and he gets you to think deeper. On the bright side hes really funny. Also dont be afraid to ask for help.
Professor Francev is one of the best faculty members at VVC. Hes sarcastic and fun and makes the material interesting. Dont be afraid of the reading, theres a lot but he will help you. He is super committed to his students. Hes a gem and has a big heart.
He is an awesome lecturer. His class was extremely entertaining. He genuinely cares for his students and their success.
He's a great teacher! He is for sure one of my favorite english professors. He's so hilarious and cares about you learning so not an easy 'A' but if you care about actually learning then he's a great one! (Work load not that bad).
Dr. Francev is expert on a french author named Albert Camus. If you don't like or understand philosophy you won't enjoy the reading. This class felt like a philosophy class more than an english class at times. He cares about his students and wants them to succeed. I personally didn't enjoy Albert Camus's work and that made this class very hard.
Francev is not a bad guy however, I feel that he has overly high expectations from community college students. The reason for that is because he has a PhD. The readings he assigns are very outdated and difficult to read. My biggest issue with him was that he constantly changed deadlines/class meetings without notifying students.
This professor really helps you become a better writer. He tells you exactly what he wants in an essay and guides you through it. ATTEND HIS PEER WORKSHOPS! Participate and get ready for his sarcasm and jokes (LOL). There were 3 papers, last research paper is worth half your grade and 12-15 pages long. He gives you enough time to get it done.
Dr. Francev is pretty charismatic, funny, and easy to talk to. But this doesn't mean he's a good teacher. When I took his class, never actually taugh us anything. If you want a fairly easy A, then feel free to take him. If you'd like to actually learn anything, Francev isn't for you. He would give a lot of incorrect information and bad feedback.
Bottom line, do your part and he (as a teacher) will do his. You can't find a more down to earth professor who wants to see you succeed. I loved and appreciated all of the literature he chose for our semester (Camus, Washington Black) both relevant and relateable. VBM
Great Professor, I thought his class was going to be tough and he made it a stress free environment. Gives good feedback, quick on emails, and gives helpful workshops for papers. Take him, put effort into your work and he will make sure to help when put forth the effort.
This has to be the best English teacher I've had at this college. His lectures are helpful and can be really funny. Like just wait till you hear some of his stories. If your new to English, I highly recommend taking Francev's courses. You'll want to take his classes again even if you don't need the credits. Best teacher here.
I wish he went over more on how to critically think and how to write his essays. He focuses on Camus the entire semester. It would have been nice if we had more to write about besides Camus. He is an expert in Camus and expects you to teach him new things about something he knows everything about. It's frustrating. He does explain Camus well tho...
Dr. Francev is one of the best professors you could take at VVC for English. Rather than make you write on reused topics, he gives students the opportunity to delve deep into relevant philosophical ideas. Put in the work, and your intellectual well-being and grade will thank you. Graded on 2 essays; he offers feedback anytime you ask.
Reading is essential but what you will learn will stick with you. Always had great discussion in class.
Don't be thrown off by weird first impressions. Dr. Francev is an oddball who cares deeply for the success of his students. He will push you because he sees your potential. This class motivated me in ways other English classes hadn't and I am so glad for the opportunity to have experienced it. Take this class for a rewarding challenge!
great and all but it would have been nice to learn more.. He does pick and chose who he will respond to. I wish he taught more than Camus. Class was more like a Philosophy class than an actual English class...
I'm not a fan of his teaching style and the cockiness. He mainly spoke about how he was an expert in everything Camus. The reading was fine, the grading criteria was not great, the syllabus was constantly changed. The class was difficult in the sense that he gave you a smidge of what he wanted and that he was the best of the best with Camus.
francev didnt care about anything i said. he also assumed i was autistic and made a few comments about autism to me. lol. loved him in the beginning but that faded towards mid semester. he needs to switch up his material. some albert camus is great but a full semester of just that dude was boring. he did have a lot going on this last semester
Francev was an authoritarian. He did not teach an "English" class, he taught philosophy. Camus is interesting, but if you don't believe what he believes 100% you will not be liked, nor will you pass. He does not like any thought in his class except his own, and he will be rude and incredibly confrontational with you. Completely unprofessional.
Spends good amounts of time each class to tell personal stories or getting into other people personal lives. Was helpful with the material in class, but was very vulgar and perverted with the sexual aspects of the stories. Strict with grading but helpful with feedback.
A great and inspiring teacher. I didn't exactly get the best grade in his class, but that is my own expense. He is fun, outgoing, and sarcastic. If you are possibly easily offended by language, darker humor, or anything like that this class is not for you. It was the highlight of my semester. I will definitely remember his salmon-colored pants.
I loved taking his class! If you put in the time and effort to actually try to pass his class, you will. He's sarcastic, funny, and kind. Yes, he is a strict grader but he provides good feedback when you seek it out. You'll read difficult poems and write about 3 essays on them but that's all you do the whole semester. So the workload is not bad.
Francev does assign lengthy essays as his assignments, but it's only a few in the semester. We actually only did two essays the in his 101 class. However he is a reasonable grader and will grade according to how much effort you put into the essay. If you manage your time right and don't procrastinate you will spend no time worrying abt his class.
Horrible two essays first one an F doesn't tell you what he wants an literally told me he didn't know how I passed eng 101 an that it was a serious insult having me there Im not taking him nor recommending him I'm surprised he can say these things an remain employed
It was an amazing class and the essays were not the hard and he does tell you want he wants to see if you ask him. And he does how workshop days when the essay is coming up, so you can go and have him reveal and tell you what mistakes you have made and how to fix it
Francev is truly one of those rare kind of people, you get a lot of knowledge from him. I feel confident in my essay writing abilities from his 101 and 104 class but he is not for the lazy or faint of heart. If you give it your all you will not be disappointed, anyone who has ever felt offended or thinks that he is inappropriate is just a baby.
Pretty cool guy! Very understanding and Sarcastic! Not many assignments and he will help you if you ask, he will give you all the supplies but you just need to communicate and participate. Really takes the time to give great feedback on your work and there's few assignments.
Dr. Francev is an expert in Camus, so the class is centered around the works of Albert Camus. I don't recommend if you're not into philosophy and rather talk about issues like feminism, race, etc. His class requires you to read and work hard, so I'd recommend to English majors. The class will benefit you and your writing and research skills.
Definitely have to read the material given. The grade is determined by two essays which isn't an issue as long as you use the resources he gives you, very open to helping. Hard class, hard assignments, but he works with you and as long as you take advantage of that you should be fine.
Take this class he is willing to help it is a bit challenging but only if you chose not to participate and show up.
I wouldn't recommend taking him unless you're AMAZING at writing about poetry. He is obsessed with Byron. I spent an entire week researching and writing one of my essays and it turned out pretty good in my opinion and he proceeded to tell me it was terrible. The lecture with him is fun but overall not worth the stress.
There is a lot of reading but it is not that bad at all. Most of what you will read is journal essays and stories. The essays are very easy to write and are easy prompts. You will not regret taking this professor.
He seemed nice and funny at first but he does draw wild conclusions and treats them as if they're fact. He also has anger issues, will snap out of nowhere doing a 180 and start lecturing a literal adult while shaking his head. Very, very arrogant. Not too much work but not knowing if he'll snap is very stressful.
Professor Francev was a great professor for my ENG-101 class. As long as you show up to class, do your best to participate even if you are confused (which he prefers so he can explain), and READ, you will enjoy his class and him as a professor. Not a lot of homework and a great experience overall. Will take again!
Dr. Francev is not an easy professor, but is educated on Albert Camus Studies. There are people who may not agree with everything he says, but he has been studying Camus for years. The required readings are Albert Camus novels and stories, and journals about Camus' works. There were only 2 essays, and he does peer workshops for them.
Dr. Francev is considerate, reasonable, and helpful; his peer review sessions will ensure a satisfactory grade on the required papers. Students must attend his class prepared to get the most out of his lecture. Dr. Francev is not arrogant but knowledgeable on his subject.
Not reading negative comments under this professor is why I took him. Truly he is not a good professor and his student success rate shows it. Clearly a difference of which professors care about teaching and which ones couldn't care less. I recommend Nathan Franklyn; Learned more from him in one semester than I would've taking Francev twice in a row
Honestly, as long as you read everything that you're supposed to read and write your essays in a timely manner. you will be alright. He is always willing to check your papers and gives great feedback. His lectures are so entertaining, it makes time fly by quickly. The subject material is also interesting, he mainly focuses on Camus.
He is quite tough on grading essays and only grades two essays throughout the semester so if you mess up on one there is no going back. Francev is very charming and hilarious regardless and will help you as much as you can on those two essays.
I only took him because of the good ratings....yeah no never again. This class shouldn't even be labeled an English class it's more of a philosophy class on Albert Camus. He's funny but he's arrogant, he gives good feedback on essays but his grading is harsh. If you miss a lot of classes don't take him. I recommend Nathan Franklin.
Was recommended by a friend to rate this prof and how awful he was. Enjoys putting students down with profanity, does it almost every class. Not a good prof and student success rate shows it- majority fails. From reading comments I think it's weird how after every negative one there's abt two positive comments within next couple days...coincidence?
I took Professor Francev back to back semesters because he makes class enjoyable, and treats everyone like they are human. His material can be difficult to understand on your own, but if you go to class and ask questions you will have no trouble because of how much help he will offer. Would take again!
Never came across a professor as bad as this one. Don't know how his rating is good when classes go from full to 7 students by end of semester. Very unprofessional, doesn't teach thinking critically. Constant foul mouth/dirty sexual jokes often. Goes to show no matter your degree, that doesn't constitute how good you are at actually doing your job.
Dr.Fracev is the best professor I ever had. I took about three classes because he is funny and likable. He only grades by two essays and the week they are due he will read them over and give feedback if you fail his class it's completely on you. I never thought I would enjoy writing so much very thought-provoking which is needed to be a good writer
Not sure why he would constantly tell students to be thankful for a prof "like him" compared to university all he does is draw wild sexual conclusions having no direct relation to the reading. Shuts down students who think critically in their own ways especially if it debunks his sexual creative thinking. Would rather have a uni prof than this guy.
No critical thinking skills are taught in this class. You'll read work strictly from one author and Francev will explain the entire book himself instead of giving you a chance to think about it. He'll also withhold advice during peer reviews and tell you *after* you've received a low grade. You're better off with a different professor.
This teacher is a joke please never take him, you'll thank yourself later. Make sure you read all the bad comments- keep in mind they're all very true. The dots connect once you actually have a class with him and realize how bad it is. Good luck guys if you do choose to, you'll need it.
Dr. Francev is very educated, but I found that I wasn't taught anything useful. There was a lot of reading and his feedback was true, but he refused to explain what I did wrong. I went to the writing center for help because he was discouraging. Maybe peer reviews would have boosted my grade to an A, but I can't be bothered. I'll take the B.
Not a 1 because I did get something out of it. It's true that he did make a weird sexual conclusion in his analyses, most did have some truth to it though. He claimed that we were lucky to have a professor open to talking about sexual things. Very disorganized course and wasn't open to helping students. He also plugged his own work which isn't good
Has to be one of my faves, super helpful willing to give feedback, and super funny while doing it. If you don't have a sarcastic sense of humor go for someone less funny. He is himself through and through so much so it's respectable.
Makes it mandatory for students to buy his own published work for assignments. Might drop it to take with another professor, very sexual, not in an informative teaching way. Talked about seeing a female students sexual videos. Purposefully emphasizes not giving permission for students to record him Makes sense he's tenured.
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! He grades horribly and gives lackluster feedback. Very few literary skills are being taught in this course. He only teaches one author's work the whole semester, and I'm probably going to drop this class because I think he's trying to fail me.
Horrible professor ever. Gives little to no feedback, he grades by 2 essays the whole semester and if you get a bad grade on one there is no going back, its almost impossible to pass if you mess up on just one essay. Does not want to help students and just tells you what you did wrong but does not tell you what you can do to improve or do better.
I was confused on an Essay, and I sent an email saying I was having trouble. He replied with "YES" instead of helping me understand the assignment. I turned in the assignment he gave me a 50/210 points. This dropped my grade from an A to a F. I asked if I could make adjustments on the essay or do an assignment to get a better grade and he said No.
"Dr. Francev is an excellent professor. I took English 104 during the summer semester of 2023. The class was very straightforward, consisting mostly of lectures on chapters assigned for reading. We focused exclusively on Albert Camus and his famous works, such as 'The Stranger'." Professor Francev is also very easy to get along with.
HORRIBLE! Never again taking his class after this. Worst professor ever, he gives no feedback and just tells you what you did wrong after grading. Doesn't help his students and many end up dropping his class by the end of the semester. DO NOT TAKE HIM PLEASE!
Do not take his class... Horrible professor, my class went from being full in the beginning of the semester to literally having only SEVEN students! Many students drop his class to prevent from failing. I think I might fail if I'm being honest. Barely passing with a D and he still needs to grade essay #2 that Is worth 70% of your grade. Please DTH!
Only a few assignments super sweet super funny absolutely loved this class. only 4 assignments but only goes over poems.
I took Dr. Francev my first year of college and it was hard at first, but he does INDEED work with you anytime you need it. He encourages students to have outlines of papers before the due date so that he can read it and tell you what you can do for a better grade. He does not give many assignments at all. I took him twice willingly, he is amazing!
How is this little guy a 5/5 rating? No one in my class liked him and we didnt learn nothing but useless stuff. don't take him unless your into abusive taunts.we had like five people in the class at the end. everyone drops.
He really cares and makes sure you do all of workshops it helps a lot don't go to tutoring center .his a really going on teacher you must get to know the real him.wouks take his class any time again.
There isn't much instruction given in the class on how to actually improve your analysis and writing. It's graded on very few assignments and some assignments dont even have a rubric. He grades according to his opinion on what you wrote, not on the rubric which makes it difficult to get a good grade on. If you ask him for help he will be vague.
His grading is very much based on his own philosophical opinion, unfortunately. When guidance and explanation on grading was asked for, he acted very inconvenienced/combative. It seemed that he wasn't interesting in teaching rather he was focused on showcasing his own published work and personal opinions.
This professor is extremely unprofessional and vague with assignments. When I addressed him about assignments being graded wrong he replied extremely rude to me as though I am a child. He forces students to read his own books, and do assignments with no explanation. He teaches English but should be teaching Philosophy. Hard grader, does not teach.
Doesn't seem to be engaged and ignores emails. It was more of a Camus class and not an English class. He grades hard by opinion and it seems like he'd rather us use his works and is tough with sources. He's also rather rude. Overall, be sure to take this class with care as you will be graded harshly. Make sure to be wary or take another professor.
Peter Francev, IS THE WORST PROPESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN IN ALL THREE YEARS OF COLLEGE. I never failed a class until I took him, he based everything off two essay hardly grades them not forgot he is extremely biased and won't let you use another authors works because he doesn't like them. All of the reading are incredibly outdated and philosophical,
I reached out several times to get help and explain that I had not been in school for over 30 years and most of the things now a days is like a foreign language... He was not receptive and the essay instructions did not specify NOT to use .com's so he gave me a 29% Wow what a kick in the gut....
Very horrible professor, never ever will I take him again. Please save your grade and time because he grades very harsh, has attitude if you ask for help, and is very biased.
He is a nice guy who cares for the students and always tries to make us show the best we can in our writing. He gives good feedback if you go to the peer workshops! Also, he's funny and can be nice but grumpy in a good way.
Professor Francev has a unique teaching style, but with effort, the class can be manageable. Engaging with the textbook and using study tools like Unstuck study helped me stay on top of the material. Overall, a challenging yet rewarding experience.
Professor Francev is very knowledgeable. Gave two papers which add up to 100% of your grade. Holds peer workshops the week of due dates to give feedback. He also has a very sarcastic and snarky sense of humor which made lectures more enjoyable. He will work with you if you need anything. Overall, an enjoyable and intriguing class with him!
Peter Francev is a genuine and caring person, the class is very heavy on poem reading but Francev helped so much when it came to understanding the poems, yes his class is based on 3 essays and honestly if you just simply listen and ask for help he's there, yes I got a C- which is my fault but Francev is very fair and clear on what needs to be done.
Very disappointed with this professor. Only two grades all semester. One midterm paper and a final paper. My final paper was 15 pages long. I received a zero for my grade after receiving a 100% on the midterm. It would have been nice if he would have communicated them to me during my rough draft review. Stay away everyone. High Risk for GenEd class
Peter Francev is an amazing person and professor and I feel empowered by every one of his lectures. The course, while very test heavy, is fun and interactive. Professor Francev is always willing to supply help to those in need, and he has inspired me to further my education in language.
Never in my life have I had a teacher this horrible, makes sexual comments about woman and gives no feedback when needed. Had to go to the writing center for help because he would not reply to any of my emails and when he did he told me I was going to fail if I kept up with my writing but he did nothing to help me improve. Save yourself my guy.....
W teacher. Very funny guy. Awesome feeeback. Very informational lectures. One of the most intelligent teachers ive ever had. Hard class though. Recommend to never miss class
I took him for both English 101-104. Amazing professor, truly cared about what he taught and I learned a lot about Albert Camus. He's a tough grader but I'm probably just not the best in English. He always showed what you needed to work on during the rough drafts. Grateful to been his student 3 times, take him if you want a professor who cares!
While Dr Francev may not be everyone's favorite professor, I really enjoyed his classes. Coursework is fairly simple, just 2 papers for the semester. As long as you attend lectures and ask questions you should be okay. My advice is to attend all peer reviews, and have as much of your essay ready to show him when you do. His feedback is great!
The most HARDEST professor I ever took at VVC. Grades our work so harsh. Received a 0/210 on a research paper for not including 2 outside resources so it became an automatic fail. I had to withdraw the class since there was no coming back from failing this 1 assignment. I usually give every professor with bad ratings a chance but this one I regret!
Rude and doesn't explain assignments properly
DO NOT TAKE!! Save Your Time. This course was a philosophy lecture on Albert Camus with outdated videos and no instruction on writing skills. The professor penalizes students for having differing opinions and provides an unclear, confusing rubric. He marks students down for criteria he never outlines, leaving you guessing what he's grading for.
This professor is not a good one. He is very opinionated and grades really harshly and will give you no feedback, and he also only helps out who he wants so if he doesn't like you you will not get help. He can also be very unclear with what he wants form you.
He does not give the best feedback or constructive criticism at all. He is very vague with his comments and does not help on improving on your writing. He just tells you what you did wrong. He also heavily grades the little things and is very picky with everything on research papers.
Dr. Francev is an excellent professor who is truly dedicated to his students if you pay attention, you'll be just fine. I would recommend students to take any of his courses.
Dr. Francev is a wonderful professor who cares for his students. 104 is a hard class as Dr. Francev goes over Albert Camus' works exclusively. Keep in mind this is a critical thinking class, and philosophy requires a lot of it. He truly pushes students to think critically about the writings we are working with.
Never once help with improving my paper. Very tough grader, even though I wrote on everything he wanted me to cover. There are only two essays in the semester, and both are worth 100 points. If you fail the first one, then you will automatically fail the class.
This is the worst professor I have ever had. I am a Student with decent grades who does all the work. I did every single assignment for this class and still did not pass. He does not give a rubric so his grading basis can change. He only had 4 papers and for ENGL 104 they are all books on Albert Camus.
He's a really good professor if you take him in person. He breaks down the material well and gives a ton of help if you do the reading and start working on your essays early, the fact that I got a C was completely on me for missing a deadline.
this professor is one of the rudest ones ive ever had. ALWAYS has something snarky to say to you when you're late. cannot stay on track and always lets the lecture get derailed by the students he had before. nosy and rude. if you ask him for help he doesn't know a damn thing. I don't know how he became a professor.
He thinks it's hilarious that his RMP page is so controversial. I took his class about the British Romantic Era of literature. He was a great professor, very funny and really knowledgeable. Grades are based on two essays only. Just show up to lectures, bring a complete rough draft for workshops and you'll be fine. Hi Dr. Francev! -Z :)
