Off the charts intelligent but down to earth guy. Lectures are totally organized and he knocks himself out trying to help you. He really wants his students to learn the material.
Math is often more amusing with witty random anecdotes. He has great patience, and very dedicated.
Very inteligent man. Will help any student who is having difficulties understanding a problem. Doesn't choose favorites, nor will he pick on any students. The New York humor adds a little fun to the class.
Simply the best SBCC has to offer.
Amazing math teacher, will clear up any misunderstandings for you in a second. Very up with the times, and makes learning fun, probably the best teacher there is in Santa Barbara...for god's sakes he was a lawyer!
Great math teacher! Notes allowed, partial credit given on tests. Homework is not collected. Quizzes are not too tough
wonderful teacher, his humor makes the class alot more enjoyable, i hate math with a passion and he made it at least tolerable :).. goes out of his way to help any student, very accepting, and notes are aloud on alot of tests
Seams to make math not such a burden, has a good scents of hummer, and cuts thou the nonsense of math and makes it understandable.
He is a great teacher. He makes everything so much more understandable. If you dont get it, he will work with you until you do.
Georgakis is cool, he's got a sense of humor so class isn't extremely boring. He doesn't make you do the homework so it is only for your own benefit. I still reccomend that you do the homework because all that counts is tests and quizzes and show up to class because attendance counts too.
This is probably the best math prof at SBCC. He is amazing when it comes to getting the class to understand math...he uses so many different techniques that it is so much fun! He is an awesome teacher that will make you just LOVE math because I did! I totally recommend him!
The best Math teacher in the world!! Do whatever you have to just take his class. He made a 5 unit class seem basic.
Very easy to learn from... a WONDERFUL teacher who knows how to convey the material well!
the good: easy, notes allowed, lets out early, cancels often, entertaining - the bad: does not prepare well for later math classes, often not at office hours, full of himself
Excellent teacher, always there during office hours (and believe me I know). Blew up at me a few times, which I thought was a bit uncool, and never apologized. Other than that, he ROCKS. Really makes it do-able, and welcomes classroom participation. A wonderful man and one of the best teachers I've ever had.
VERY FUNNY GREEK DUDE. HE MAKES CLASS INTERESTING AND WON'T MAKE YOU FALL ASLEEP, NO NEED FOR PILLOW IN THIS CLASS, NEVER COLLECTS HOMEWORK, ALWAYS LETS YOU USE A PAGE OF NOTES (FRONT AND BACK)IF HE'S IRRITATED, IT'S CUZ HE HASN'T HAD HIS CUP OF COFFEE, HIGHLY RECOMEND HIM.
I took this teacher last year based on all the great reviews from this site. What a DISAPPOINTMENT. He puts a lot of effort in trying to convince us how important and smart he is. Good luck trying to catch him during office hours. He is NEVER there. All of us from his 100 class in Math 107 were not as prepared as the other students seemed to be.
DO NOT TAKE THIS GUY! He has quite a temper and can be a real JERK. Should have stayed being a lawyer.
I loved him, very much recomend him. super funny, makes a lot of handouts, can use notes, very entertaining, makes math more fun then it should be, he really cares and wants you to do well in the class
Mr.. G by far the best teacher period at the C.C..

This is the best math teacher. He is amazing when it comes to getting the class to understand math...he uses so many different techniques that it is so much fun! he has so much experience and just wants to make everyone love math.

This is the worst teacher i have ever had in my life. If you take his class be prepared to be talked to like an idiot because thats how he thinks of you. His voice would give me a headache everyday...so bad i would need to leave early. In high school i too
worst teacher i have ever had... passes you if you arent good at math so he can feel cool like hes helping you and doesnt pass you if you are because it bothers him when people can do well in a subject thats supposed to be impossible... got straight a's i
got straight a's until i took him... gave me a C in calculus instead of a D to be helpful when it really just screwed my gpa... then took the same class and calc 2 at ucsb and got the highest grade in the class... what does that say

One of the best instructors that I have ever had!
THIS TEACHER IS THE BEST EVER. Not only does he have a great personality, you can get really into his class. I have never had a better math teacher ever! If you get the chance to take him DO! I would recomend this teacher to anyone and everyone!!!!
I hate math. I had a horrible experience with a Math 100 teacher, and so having Mr G as a teacher was really awesome! Every time I would start to get frustrated with a new concept in class, he would start telling some story or something that made us remember to keep things in perspective. I probably did the best in that class than any other math class I've taken.
Best teacher! He was soooo helpful and made sure everyone did well! I have never recieved a grade higher than a c in math in my life, his class I got an A. Laid back guy too

I love this man. If you screw around he'll stick it to you. Do your work and show up to class and you're golden.
Georgakis is awesome, if he taught math 111 I would definatly be taking his class. You can only fail if you are an idiot and take back to him.
Definitely the most entertaining math teacher I've ever had. Quite a character. He goes a bit fast in the beginning, just ask questions and he will completely back up to explain everything. Go to his office hours, priceless help- *hint-ask about the upcoming test/quiz*. Allows a page of notes for tests. Pulls ques. straight from HW. Recommended.
Much better as a math teacher but gives 100% every class. I learned alot. Should not be so nice to some students who are really rude. If theydont wont to be there drop the class. Some girls in the class are really noisy and just nasty.
Looking forward to taking him because I heard so much good about him. What a waste of time. He skipped sections in the book that were on the final, leaving me completely unprepared. Total loser
Was helpful when wanted to be, which was only when he was in a good mood. Spent most of class time complaining about students. I went in liking math, left hating it.
I was working in the ER and caught a gnarly bug, had fever for 6 days, could barely walk. Missed a test because of it and he wouldn't let me make it up. Yelled at me in office hours, like he needed meds or something. Gave a great yearly faculty presentation tho, and his tests aren't too hard. Needs to retire and relax.
Full of himself!! He does not prepare students for final AT ALL! His tests aren't to difficult nor his quizzes and all he expects from students is attendence and good scores. I HIGHLY recommend him if you already know the material and need to pass this class. IE: he'd good for review- terrible for people who need to actually learn the stuff!
Very entertaining. He was extremely helpful and made time to spoon feed us the material (in a good way) when the ideas were cloudy. He really wanted us to learn and procede with confidence into the next class, which I will.
He was so helpful. Teaches in a way you understand it. One of my Favs =)
Excellent pts: Grades only on tests/quizzes, always hands these back first thing; Knows student names; Lots of energy. Not good: Seems to think all students are lazy or stupid (I walked out when I couldn't take anymore scolding-- this when the class avg was 84!); Does not answer actual questions asked. Prof, maybe just a "yes" or "no", sometimes?
very moody, nice sometimes, sometimes not. we called him peter prozac. not easy to find outside of class.
Made a difficult, complex subject simple and clear. He's human and has his ups and downs just like everyone else but in general keeps class up beat. He was very helpful outside of class when I managed to track him down and is passionate about the subject. Tests/Quizzes are easy enough. He wants his students to do well.
Peter Georgakis is an award winning math professor. He wants students to excell in math because he knows they can if they come to class and learn the material. I had a blast in his class and learned the material well. It's good to get a study group together early on in the semester.
Great teacher, very clear and organized!
Great math Prof. coming from a person who hates math and got F's in high school. Great sense of humor, very clear and focused in the way that he teaches his class.
Moody??????? As I recall he was trying to finish out the semester before he went in for major surgery on his arm. He had that surgery over the christms break, because he spent the next 3 months in a sling. I know there were times when he was dragging and in a lot of pain. I was in his class and also worked for his doctor.
Wow! Doesn't matter what you think about math in general, Peter is amazing and you won't find his classes boring. I think the class was Math 130----Intermediate Algebra or Algebra II?? It's been a while. He's got a great, almost poetic style of teaching math. I thoroughly enjoyed his class and recommend it to anyone. Peter makes algebra fun.
Ok, he's amazing!!!! Get him if you can for anything! I had failed Algebra 3 times, and I got a solid B in Calculus with him. I don't know how he does it, but he can explain any mathmatical concept in a way that makes it understandable and almost common sense. I wish he taught all my classes!
I have never in my life enjoyed math until I took Peter's class. I took Math 100 with him over summer, which was crammed into a few short weeks. He is a really funny guy with a unique style of teaching that makes it very easy to learn. He can be moody but I wouldnt blame him- he is very helpful, laid back, and nice.
Hilarious!!! I get bored SO QUICKLY in a math class, so it help when the teacher is willing to crack a joke, or two. Won't move on to the next material unless most of the class gets it. Points out the mistakes NOT to make. GREAT TEACHER
very funny guy. makes math class a little bit less dull. cracks jokes about people and gets the whole class laughing at least once a class. has taught for a long time and is very good at doing so. He writes the final exam for ALL math 100 classes. lets you use notes on exams. highly recommended.
Phenomenal Teacher! Must Take. I was an F student in math for years. He turned it all around and now Im #1 in his class. Show up for every class and youll never need to do homework. HIGHLY reccomended. Dont even think about taking anyone else. Hes great. Very funny, great teacher
Georgakis is the****! My counsler recommended him and he is honeslty the best math teacher i've ever had. This was my second time taking math 100 sadly, and he clarified everyting, teaches you easy ways to do problems! If you hate math, and want an entertaining fun teacher who ACTUALLY knows what hes talkin about, take him. you wont regret it!!!
I failed Algebra 3X in high school, didnt go to college for 7 years. All I have to say is this teacher is PHENOMENAL! He tells you things in a way that make them understandable rather than memorize-able. Huge jokester but not afraid to tell you bluntly if youre not working enough in his class. Mr G is the real thing, dont pass his class up!!!
AWESOME TEACHER!!! EXPLAINS PRETTY CLEAR.. JUST SHOW UP TO CLASS ON TIMEEEEE AND DONT MISS IT THAT MUCH. HARD IN GRADING BUT HE'S PRETTY CLEAR ON MATERIAL///
I just finished his math 100 class and i HIGHLY reccomend his class...especially if you are not that good in math. I was always a c or lower math student in highschool, but Mr. G is awesome and makes everything seem clear and i only got one C on a quiz..the rest were A's and B's which is amazing for me!! deff will do his best to make sure you pass
Overall i did pass the class but i had to go to the math lab alot on my own. He gets really frustrated too which makes it harder
I took 100 and 107 with him. You need to go to class, you need to pay attention. If you want to go to talk to friends,or come in late please don't bother. It frustrates him and puts him in a bad mood.hardly any homework ever. Grades on quizes and tests(test questions r from quiz)fair grader.Easy to talk to &answers ?s clearly.Come to class& hes easy
Great teacher.Must attended class!he lectures, big use of calculators.Explains things in refference to the real world.hates tardiness & talkers.Homework optional. Nice & caring.Explains things well.SUPER FUNNY! Makes you like math. All his classes r lectures written on da board.clear on due dates& what he espects.makes class fun!Go to class and pass!
I had Georgakis for math 100 and 107 and actually learned something from him. He's really great about explaianing things if you have a question. I flunked math 100 the first time and passed with flying colors after taking Peter's class. I suggest everyone take his class. Take it in the fall and he will talk football with you.
Awesome teacher! He's teaching because he actually enjoys teaching and he goes out of his way to make sure that his students have all the materials needed to be successful. If you attend class and do your homework you will pass the class. He fills up FAST so be sure to register early!
Great teacher!!! Highly recommend his class. Get to class on time for quizzes!
Very good teacher. Very good at what he does. Recommended
I failed math 130 mostly my fault. BUT what kind of teacher comes in every Sunday morning for 2 or 3 hours to help his students? I should have pased but this guy really cared about you learning the material and passing math. When the class did badly it pained him. Like what did I do wrong here? Hey dud lighten up on yourself you cant do it all.
i think hes a bad teacher. he was so unhelpful in office hrs. and acted like i bothered him. and in class went way too fast and makes you feel SO stupid if you ask any questions. i dont recommend.
Amazing teacher, passionate about his job & really wants students to succeed. I've always been bad at math, but Georgakis explains it in a way that it makes sense to me. Attendance is mandatory, & lots of quizzes. Problems on quizzes & homework often show up on tests. Took him for 100 as well & I highly recommend him. Don't expect to slack & get by!
Good teacher overall, but 107 does go pretty fast so be prepared and go to class.
He is great. This is definately not a class you can slack off in. Holds Sunday reviews. He is always in office hours he is extremely dedicated, you need to put in the time to learn the material. Make sure to go over the worksheets he gives out!! Some examples from the worksheets will be on the exams! overall hardest class I took but very rewarding!
Fantastic Teacher. Show up and pay attention in class and you will do great. He is straight forward and has no problem telling you like it is. Dont be afraid to shout out answers in class participate. I didnt have to use the book i learned everything in class.
I'm bad at math. I took him because I heard he was easy. I got an A without even buying the book. I couldn't believe how unprepared I was for Math 107. I think he gives a lot of A's to boost his ego. And man does he ever think extremely highly of himself. I do not recommend him.
Dunno why he gets good reviews. His Math 130 Calc class is very tough. Lectures are confusing and hard to follow because he fails to explain every step and never finishes his example problems. Handouts every week as well as quizzes. Grumpy and old. Textbook optional. Writes very unorganized notes on the board so its hard to follow. Good Luck.
best teacher i have had in a long time. i would definitely reccomend him. i was never good at math before this class and it has come easy to me since i have been in his class. but make sure you show up... it doesnt count fro a grade but you will get way behind if you miss one class.
The reason this guy gets good reviews is because he cares about his students and he loves teaching math Some of the people in the calc class this semester should have stayed in junior high school. Its college. I'd be grumpy too if I had to deal with all the bs some of these students tried to lay on him. take responsibility and grow upgreat class
Students get to say anything they want anonymously while the instructor is put out their dodging bullets. Many students who do not do well are critical of the teacher. I am surprised that I have not been accused of being the second gunman on the grassy knoll in Dallas. It's junior college not junior high school. Take some responsibility P Georgakis
Best math prof ever.I was blown away by how much he knows about his subject. He can answer any question you have no matter how complicated instead of pretending not to have time and sending you to the tutors.HW wasn't collected so you decide how much practice you need.Explanations are clear.Always helps outside of class. Also very funny and upfront.
Awesome teacher. He is very knowledgeable and makes it easy to understand. He really makes you work for your grade in the end it makes you a better student. He does this by not collecting homework (this was a year ago). Some students dont like this because it makes them accountable and they dont have anyone to blame when they fail.boowhoo
He is an amazing teacher. You would be lucky to get him. Super dedicated, dry, funny sense of humor. I wish I had him for every math class. He doesn't have tollerance for slackers so don't take him if you are a flake.
Honestly one of the best math teachers I've ever had...HIlARIOUS man! he really makes hard stuff seem easier and tries to explains things in a way that makes sense to you! quizzes about every week not too bad..4 tests 1 final hw about every class...its perfect
A wonderful man and teacher. Truly one of the best math teachers I?ve ever had. He made calculus easy, at least to me! He shows you exactly what will be on the tests, so just come to class, do your homework, and put in some effort and you'll do great! Take his calculus class!! Oh and he?s hilarious!
I struggled with Math for years until I took his class. Georgakis is amazing. He is gracious with his time and patience with people in his class, he knows it isn't their favorite subject. He took the time to memorize our names, something that made the class more personal. I credit him with getting me back on course with my math requirements.
I had him for this spring semester, he's very nice and he always do a review session on the Sunday before the actual exam. Be sure to attend the review session if you can, they are very helpful. This class is not too easy to get an A, but if you try your best and attend all his lecture, you'll be fine! Nice Guy
Peter is a great teacher. He is able to explain math so you can understand it. He always asks if you get it. He is willing to help you. Pay attention and don't waste his time with excuses. Do the work, show up, and participate and it will be a great learning experience.
One of the most amazing math teachers ever! He is very helpful and an all around fun teacher!
THE BEST MATH TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD! I always hated math because I couldn't understand it, but Peter Georgakis teaches it in a way that is extremely understandable. He's SO eager to help and never makes you feel stupid for asking questions. HIGHLY recommend this teacher!!!!
Such a wonderful teacher!
Thankfully I got to take his 100 class too. Honestly I hesitate to brag on him because he already had like 50 people on his waiting list! I avoided math at SBCC for over 15 years. Peter made it a snap. Thank you!
Georgakis is an extremely skilled professor, with great intentions and a great attitude. Wishes the best for all his students and helps them along the way. Would ecommend this teacher to anyone!!
I am taking his Calc 130 class and he is not a good teacher. He will do the bare minimum to teach you and put much harder questions on the test. Notes are very unorganized and mostly consists of examples rather than step by step processes. He does grade leniently so even if you dont get it you can pass. Id look elsewhere if you hate math.
Great teacher. If you are not the biggest fan of math, Peter keeps the class entertaining with his humor and random stories. He's clear about what to expect on quizzes (Every week, sometimes two), and on exams. Hands out a homework schedule from book, although not required to do (all though if you want to pass you should).
This teacher is awesome! I was super stressed out for this class but ended up doing great being the teacher was great. He is extremely helpful and makes the math understandable.
He knows math, not people. Avoid his classes if you ask a lot of questions, because he makes it CLEAR that you're annoying him, and once you've done that there's no going back. I struggle a lot in math and after the first few classes, I just felt bad about myself, as he'd answer my questions in a "Well, duh, what's wrong with you" manner.
Hes a great teacher took him for math 100 and math 107! He's very clear and super helpful!! I loved his class! He's one of the best instructors at cc!! He's funny too wait till his phone goes off in class he has this super patriotic ring tone;)
Great teacher. I took MATH 100 during the summer many years ago years ago, so it was INTENSE at only 6 weeks. But he was quick to grade papers and the class was paced perfectly to get you going but not completely stress you out. His explanations of problems were easy to understand, but in Math YOU have to take responsibility no matter what! His
I have his class every tuesday thursday, every tuesday we lecture and every thursday there is a quiz on thursdays lecture, so it is impossible to miss class. He is very helpful, easy to talk to, strongly recomend this class
Georgakis is the man! Such a cool guy. Best math teacher I've ever had. Makes a math class fun and interesting. Took him for 100 and 107. Couldn't recommend him higher. Take him!!!
Awesome teacher! He is the best teacher I have had at city college so far. I have gotten A's on most of his tests and I havent done one homework assignment. If you ask questions you are sure to get an A in his class.
Everybody thinks he's great because he's easy and gives lots of A's. I did no work, got an A and the found out that I was totally unprepared for Math 107. :-(
Best math teacher at SBCC by far! Makes math clear and enjoyable. Very smart man & cracks jokes. If you sit in the front, pay attention & ask questions when u have them, you will do great! Definitely does prepare you for the next level of math! Changed my major to engineer after this class! Love him. Do yourself a favor & take him if you can.
Great teacher, really wants students to do well. Very reasonable, has a sense of humor, overall good guy. The class isn't really difficult you just need to attend and pay attention and do the homework even though he doesn't collect it! Tests weren't bad, only one was super hard. Can't complain about anything in this class, I recommend it and him!
Best prof ever. He was great. All you have to do is show up and pay attention, the only way you could not pass this class is if u just dont go, EVER. Good office hours and and wants everyone to pass. He drops lowest test score and that brought me from a low B to a Mid A, so i recommend it. And if you pass thats no more math because its transferable
Great teacher. Just show up, take good notes and you will pass. He actually tells you exactly what will be on the tests. I never passed math before. I got an A in his class. Great guy!
Georgakis is a great teacher who is excited about the what he teaches and he tries to keep things interesting. It's almost impossible to fail this class unless you simply don't care. Normally I hate math, but he kept things interesting and I learned a lot of useful things in his class.
great teacher just go to class every day an ask him questions. you shouldnt have any problem if you do that, his quizzes/tests/and even the final are all made from things you see in class and he even tells you exactly whats going to be in them. work hard to understand the beginning (math 131) because if not the end is gonna be really hard..
BEST MATH TEACHER AT CITY! loved georgakis! hes super knowledgeable about random stuff and is super clear! he lets you use notes on the tests and basically gives you the test beforehand! Take him!
I couldn't disagree more with the last comment. Georgakis is a great professor; He is clear about what you need to know, making an A very achievable, and a B almost impossible not to get. Take this class in the summer--it's easier.
Good teacher, but this is math people. A lot of homework... and difficult for most of us.
He is helpful!!!and really easy to get A. do his homework, then you ll get everything. his review exam is really helpful for real exam!! have to take with him!!!
Peter is great and his class is pretty easy. if you do your homework and show up to class, there is no way you can't pass! I've never done well in math but I did great in this class! He doesn't make you take the final if you have missed less than 6 hours of class. I recommend taking this class!
I struggles at first because he sometimes goes too fast when teaching on the board but I ended up loving him! He gives study guides that are like the test and even takes time outside of class to hold reviews. GO TO THE REVIEWS! He's a good funny guy and just wants to make sure you pass. Was my 2nd time taking calc and I got a B with him.
Amazing teacher! Really nice and funny guy. Tests and quizzes are easy as long as you pay attention and do the homework. Couldn't ask for a better math teacher
Great teacher. Very clear and helpful. Funny and easy to talk to if there are any problems.
Math of course is an overall difficult subject for some. I have always struggled with math and for the first time ever I found that I enjoyed it while taking this class. Peter Georgakis relates the material to real life examples in order for you to understand it better. I really enjoyed his class. He is a great/helpful professor. Take his class!!!
I absolutely adore Georgakis. He lets you use all the notes you want on the tests and quizzes & he has a quirky sense of humor, which everyone loves him for. If you meet his attendance guidelines (less than 6 hours missed), he drops the two lowest quizzes, the lowest test, and you don't take the final. Looked forward to his class - and I hate math!
He is a very easy-going and humorous person. I enjoyed his lectures. I would suggest you to ask a lot of questions - because Pro. Georgakis will answer them all. You will be amazed on how intelligent he is on mathematics.
By far the BEST math teacher in the department. He explains things thoroughly & helps you when you need it, so go to his office hours if you need to or show up early to class. He's also very intelligent and quite hilarious. You won't regret taking his class. Wish he taught 131 as well.
He was a great teacher that helped you whenever you needed some extra help. His only thing was that you had to show up to class and have good attendance. And oh yea the Final was optional.
Great teacher and a cool guy! He was hilarious as well as very clear about the subject matter. Passed out helpful notes before every chapter which he went over in class (which were nothing too difficult). He definitely wants to see his students succeed, and cares about them. The last exam and final are optional if you miss less than 3 classes.
Great teacher who knows everything about math. He drops 2 out of your 12 quiz scores and drops 1 out of 6 homework assignments. He prepares you for the quizzes the class before them, and study your quizzes for the tests. Final is cumulative so study everything.
He is totally hilarious and wants to know his students. His lectures are fun to listen to and I didn't mind being at school early for his class.
He is one of the best math professors I have ever had. He is funny and very understanding. He expects you to do the homework (which is only for your benefit with helping for tests and quizzes) and he is always willing to help during his office hours. He wants his students to succeed. Highly recommend taking his class!!!
He looks out for students. He wants everyone to pass and gives you the tools to do it. He is extremely sarcastic, and keeps the class fun with his humor. Pretty old school. Overall he's extremely clear on how to pass his class do the work, go to class, do the practice exams. simple as that. would recommend 100 percent
Very nice man! And pretty funny too :) This is definitely not an easy class but he is passionate about helping his student learn. If you need help, ask for it! I recommend study groups too.
Awesome! Very fun class, in MATH114 he allows all notes and calculators on the tests and quizzes (which you can use for the tests too). If you have perfect attendance, he doesn't make you take the final at the end of the semester.
By far the most caring professor I've had. Georgakis keeps the class alive with his humor, but also cares about his students' grades. He's very helpful and holds review sessions that are x hours long! He provides students with practice tests which are conceptually replicas of the tests and has weekly quizzes that are short, didn't ever stress.
He is one of the best professors I have had in 5 semesters! He wants you to pass this class and makes it SO easy to do it. All you have to do is just show up to class. You can use ALL notes and past quiz's/HW on tests. He drop lowest quiz, test, and HW grades and you don't have to take the final if you show up to class and take the quiz's! SO EASY
Georgakis is an awesome teacher! He's very helpful and his tests are not too bad, based on the fact that they are very similar to the practice tests. He's very willing to answer questions in class, and he's got lots of office hours, I went a few times for less then 5 mins and it helped a lot. His sarcasm is awesome, and makes math fun.
Overall he is a good teacher and gives good lectures. He is funny a good amount of the time and understands if a quiz or test is hard and he will curve it if so. I would definitely take him again.
Georgakis is awesome. My grade could be better had I tried more, but honestly it doesn't require much to do well. He's always eager to answer questions and explains things in a way that really make sense. He also keeps the class alive with awesome humor and the material learned is applicable in real life.
Georgakis is awesome! This class may be the easiest math class I've ever taken, and Georgakis makes it fun. He really knows what he's talking about and he uses real-life examples to make the math easier to understand. He doesn't collect homework & the tests are easy (this is coming from someone who almost failed every high school math class)!
Georgakis was a pretty great instructor all semester. For the subjects taught in 114, it was an incredibly easy class. He's strict on attendance, and does require to meet Fridays weekly, but the way he teaches in class makes the material incredibly easy to understand. Tests are straightforward and never spontaneous. Listen to him, and you'll pass.
easy class sometimes not very helpful
great guy! lectures can be sometimes boring. He always makes sure everyone understand what we have learned before moving on. Most of the practice quizzes we would work on in class were exactly the same as the actual quizzes. Study guides are similar to the exams. If you need extra help visit his office hours and he is happy to help.
Georgakis was a great teacher this Summer. He is very organized, funny, and caring. He really prepared the class for quizzes and test with practice handouts that were very similar to the actual quiz and test. Take him you won't regret it!
He is one of the best professors I've taken here at sbcc! He knows his scuff but most importantly knows how to teach the material in a way that makes it easier to understand. He gives practice quizzes that are very similar to the actual real ones but they have a twist to it to make it a little harder but covers everything the same for tests
Georgakis is the man! He is so nice and a solid teacher. He really wants you to pass no matter what! You need to come to class because he takes note of absences, the work isn't hard if you pay attention. no homework that needs to be turned in, and allows notes on some tests!
He is one of best teacher in SBCC.
Was in shock that I was able to learn a 16-week Calculus in 5ish weeks of summer session. Great guy who did endless examples in class and was always at office hours. 10/10 recommend
Explains things well, gives students many chances to ask questions. Super funny and entertaining. There is a textbook but we haven't used it once during the entire course--gives out prints of his power points on the chapters which is super helpful. Drops a few of your lowest grades at the end of the semester :)
Prof. Georgakis was the 1st math professor I actually liked at SBCC. Math130 is a tough class. If you don't put in the effort to do your work/go to class don't be surprised if you get an F. Do you work, go to the math lab, go to office hrs, ask questions, & do your HW & you will pass. He actually cares about his student & wants to see them succeed.
He is very funny and I love every moment in his class. Take his class and you won't regret
I suck at math and he makes this class so easy to pass. He's also really funny. If you don't put in effort you won't pass. Quizzes and exams are only like 20 questions.
Explained everything very clearly. If you didn't get it, he didn't make you feel stupid about it. He would go over it in a different way. I've always been terrible at algebra, and after not having taken it for YEARS, I can say his class was approaching a fool-proof A. If you don't pay attention/don't show up, it'll be hard to pass. Great professor!
Single-handedly the best math teacher I have ever had. Math 130 is calculus, and as you have probably heard it is one of the toughest math classes out there. Peter is so good at helping each student and giving them fair chances to fix their work (even on exams) if he feels you have put in the effort to understand the content. Best teacher ever.
I think some students from last semester might've gotten on his nerve because he was not as nice and helpful as reviews from previous years stated. If he's having a bad day he will show it. The class is tough but he doesnt make it much easier. Teaches too fast and makes the exams significantly more difficult than mock tests. Not the worst, but bad.
Georgakis is the BEST professor I've ever had. He's very talented at teaching math and will explain things until you understand. He's a genuinely good guy and cares about his students. My best advice is to do all the homework. If you don't practice the problems outside of class, you won't do well. I'm not a "math person" but he has made me like it.
In High School, I thought I was terrible at math. Who knew that when math is explained well and you're guided smoothly through it, you can actually understand it! I went from failing math exams in high school in basic algebra to getting a 98% on a calculus exam during a Summer session. Do the homework, go to class, and take Professor Georgakis.
I took Georgakis about a year ago and he was by far the best math teacher I've had. He makes the concepts very clear, as well as what is expected in the class. He is serious about the course and expects you to go every day and put in your own time in order to do well on the exams. Despite being serious he likes to crack a few jokes during lectures.
Prof. Georgakis is super funny and loved by almost everyone he has taught. He makes math interesting for those who don't like it and incorporates funny stories into his lectures. Take him!
Georgakis has to be one of the best people that I have ever met at SBCC. I was scared to take calc because it's CALC. He makes it so easy for you to actually understand the material. You have to work for your grade in the class, so that means going to his office hours and actually doing your homework. He is also so hilarious. loved him.
Georgakis is not only hilarious but a genuine teacher who cares about the success of his students. "Do you understand that?" (you'll get it if you take the class) But seriously he's the best you're gonna get when it comes to calculus or any math. Page of notes front and back every test and an easy A if you show up to class. Do not hesitate take him
I took Professor Georgakis this semester and he was amazing! He gives partial credit as well as study guides for the quizzes (one in class each week) and study guides for the midterms and final. He has a great sense of humor and he is an excellent teacher. Show up to class, listen to lectures, and do the study guides you will do great!
Good guy all around. As long as you show up and are willing to do the work and put in some effort you will have no problem getting a good grade. His office hour are really helpful if you need extra help or just have questions. By far the best math professor at this school.
Professor Georgakis is a great guy. Very funny. he will often try to incorporate real life into the mathematical problems. Exams and quizzes are recycled from his homeworks. He sends PDF notes for everything you study. You will be able to use a calculator and notes. If you care he will help you pass (or excel) in the class.
Took him over the summer for calculus and I dont regret it at all! He always tries to make sure that every student in class really gets the material that he covers and is always available to help out. Math is easily my worst subject, but the fact that I managed to get an A with him as a professor speaks volumes about his amazing teaching skills!
I was really excited to take him originally since I had heard good things about him. He's a good teacher in the sense that he gets the job done but he can be passive-aggressively rude to his students. He said some pretty rude comments about students who weren't present including me. The class wasn't bad or difficult, just not THAT enjoyable.
He's a pretty funny guy and very sweet at heart, but he sometimes makes you feel dumb for not knowing things. He teaches pretty fast too. Hw is due at the end of week, 3 exams, 1 final, 6 quizzes and he gives you practice quizzes/exams which are usually the exact same as the actual one. If you miss class more than 4 times he WILL drop you.
Georakis is an awesome person and super witty. I really enjoyed his class. I only had 1 test that was exactly like the study guide, so put lots of edtra examples on your cheat sheet. If you go to class and pay attention you will do fine. Dont be late to his class. He will call you out infront of others.
Not accessible outside of class. Textbook is not well written. Dont bother trying to speak to him after class, it probably wont go well.
His practice exams dont line up with his actual exams. He prepares you for things that wont be on the test while he avoids preparing for things that will be on the test. Be careful.
I personally believe that he is the best math teacher at SBCC. He goes over things clearly and until people understand it. He goes over things before quizzes and tests are given, which really helps and he seems to actually care about the students. He also has a humor about him which makes the class fun. 10/10 would recommend.
Textbook is not written well. He is temperamental with students, short, and doesnt slow down. Hes generous when he grades homework but he can ruin your grade if you arent careful. Do not fully trust his practice quizzes. They will NOT match up with actual quizzes.
Still struggling to reconcile his treatment of the class and me. A thorough insensitivity and complete lack of caring towards students' academic goals. Difficult to communicate with and quite unapproachable. Seems to mean well but seems incapable of extending humanity or reason to students. Moves really fast in class and his exam prep is deceptive.
Professor Georgakis is a funny and helpful teachers. Multiple times during lecture he will stop and ask if everyone understands, and will stop and review whatever questions students may have, until they get it.
He moves fast. He will ask the class if they understand but no one ever raises their hand because he can give a lot of sarcastic remarks. I saw a girl cry out of class once. There are better professors.
I strongly believe that there is not a better math teacher SBCC has to offer. If you are willing to put in the work you will have no problem getting a good grade in this class. He has a-lot of office hours which are held in the math lab, and he is very responsive when it comes to emails. He also will go over things as many times as needed. A++++
Worst professor ever. Does not teach at all, whatsoever. He never has a lesson plan, he is disorganized, and all around a horrible teacher. Peter came to this class not knowing how to teach it, he said that himself. He never had anything organized, he did not teach the proper concepts, and he tested on concepts that he did not teach. Disappointing
This was my second time taking this class for many reasons; I obviously didn't pass the first time. This time around, I did everything that was asked of me, studied as much as I could, & asked for help whenever I needed it. Professor Georgakis truly cares about his students and will help you as much as he can to pass, you just gotta do the work.
Dr. Georgakis is THE BEST!!!! Take his class(es) please. I took calc130 summer session with him and hes such a great professor and human. He lets you know all you need. Thankful to know theres such professor around who want students to succeed.
LOVE HIM! Peter is such a funny and fun professor! He made me fall in love with math! He makes you work for the A, but it is definitely worth it! If I could, I would take him again!
Georgakis is one of my favorite teacher at SBCC. He is incredibly knowledgeable and makes hardly any mistakes. He is an approachable, seasoned teacher and he knows how to best help students. I took this class over the summer, so it was packed, but go to the math lab and office hours and youll be fine.
This was the most amazing professor I have ever had. He is so understanding and such a great teacher. Math has always been a struggle for me, especially taking this class online. But Peter was so clear about what to expect in this class and that is what I appreciated the most. He makes sure his students are prepared for what they will see on tests.
He was chill and let people use notes for all the tests. But he doesnt care about your outside problems at all. My dad passed away half way through the semester and I sent him multiple emails which he didnt respond to and when I approached him in class he ended with you do what you need to do & well do what we need to do. At least try to care
Peter is great. The summer session is fast. If you do the work along with him a lot of the questions on quizzes and exams come straight from the class work. If you are struggling GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS, he works through exam problems with you. He really does care. If you are trying, doing the work, showing up, he will help you. Thanks Peter!
I hadn't taken a math course in 6 years and still got an A in this course. If you attend the lectures and pay attention to what he is telling you, you will do great in his class. Attending his office hours and asking questions will naturally raise your grade a full letter grade. Peter is extremely caring and has a vested interest in your success.
I took his math 130 class (calculus) this summer and I miss it already! The professor is so caring about his students, which was personally helpful to me because it inspired me to do well. If you need help, he doesn't make you feel bad or dumb, like other math professors I've had. I'm bad at math, but I did the work and it's possible to get that A.
Super antagonistic. Okay teacher but overall pretty hateful and annoyed with his students and it crosses over to his teaching. His exams do not link up with the practice exams. Be careful.
This class is based on quizzes/exams, there's no homework or extra credit. This class can be hard to keep up with, Peter teaches at a fast pace. He's hard to reach through email, he sometimes ignores them. My advice would be to really study the material before taking the tests, your grade depends on it.
As someone who doesn't consider myself a math person, I'd recommend taking another intro class such as Stats. As a student-athlete, there was little flexibility in making up or having to reschedule exams due to games. Georgakis is a nice person, although, some get his humor more than others. I liked him but material wise I had a hard time.
Professor G is great! His live lectures made the online class seem close to what it would be in person, and he makes it fun too. The math was mostly stuff I will use in real life, not like other math classes. I wish all my classes were like this one.
I took him for calc and didn't pass the 1st time. I was in other hard classes & had a job so I didn't put in the work. I retook it & my suggestions: pay attention, do the hw, and then redo it. I transferred and I'm so grateful for Mr. Georgakis for teaching me the basics of calculus as it's pushed me ahead of other students and I'm not struggling.
I wish I would have taken this class with a different professor. He has no respect for his students. The consents we learned were not to hard but this teacher can not teach, be prepared to do all the work on your own. He is very unfair and only cares about himself when it comes to when he wants to grade them. Dont take him!
People need to take this warning seriously. Georgakis is not a good teacher to take if you plan to transfer to a four year university. He does not care about you no matter how well you perform or how hard you try. He is disrespectful on top of his rigid ways. Its a bad combo and will ruin your semester.
I took this class in spring 2021 and this was so hard. He was so rude to many women in my class and made us feel stupid. Multiple people have had difficulties submitting to canvas (missing files, etc) and he refuses to accept your work even tho we are online. His tests are impossible to finish in the time he gives us. Just take a different prof.
Many say he's rude, he just sets boundaries. He is a nice guy. He teaches really fast and it is ur responsibility as the student to let him know to slow down (how else is he supposed to know?) The class tutor is REALLY helpful. You have to show up and pay attention, ask questions, and you'll be alright.
Great in person. Terrible online. Not much more to say than that... take his class when its in person!! Very old school NY guy, cautious around women which is respectable. Dont expect a caring father figure- his job is to teach math, not to coddle. Not tech savvy, hence why online is so bad. He has turtles in his office!! Ask him about them.
Peter was unbearable online. The class was stupid easy but the lectures were WAY too long that you nod out after 30 mins. He makes up his lectures and examples that don't work for the test and has a weird way of teaching "his" way. Whenever I asked to explain, he would only use like 5 words. He also acts as the entire class is in the 4th grade.
This Professor is one of the worst online math professors I have ever taken. Not only is he inconsiderate of student's needs he also does not explain anything thourgly. His notes are all over the place and most of them don't even relate back to the quiz. If we were in class he would be a great professor but as an online teacher he is terrible
He will give you a test every other day and will make it due at 8 am. He barely teaches the subjects of the tests and piratically makes you teach yourself, he goes extremely fast and is unhelpful in emails in regards to questions. He does not have extra credit and this is a very difficult class, would not recommend if you struggle with math.
Georgakis is the best! I struggle in Math but he is such a great professor that will help you out if you come to class and do your assignments. No homework for the class only quizzes and tests. This sounds scary but it really isn't. The quizzes are basically homework and all quizzes are multiple choice. First-class I have taken with useful math!
Peter is a good teacher but I think he struggles with online which upsets students. He is caring and he tries extremely hard to make the class as doable as possible for students. I hate to see the rude comments lefts about him because it is untrue. He is a great professor for in person classes.
Pete could be great in person, online not so much. He was very passive aggressive when speaking to students, got frustrated very easily and left no feedback on tests. It was a hard class, he did not make it easier. No homework, or textbook, really only learning for tests. His online structure was awful and he was painful to communicate with.
Peter gets lots of bad press, but he is a good professor if you're clear about what you need more help with. He teaches fast, so if you have questions you need to speak up and ask. NO mandatory homework, so everything in the grade book is tests/quizzes. He is a good teacher, just gets impatient with students' lack of care for the class.
Peter truly cares about his students, and I know he is going through some hard times in his personal life. Math 130 was a difficult class, but he was available during tests to ask questions via zoom, and he had multiple office hours to help. He got frustrated with students using Chegg which is understandable. He is a good guy and wants to help.
Peter is the worst Math Professor I have taken at SBCC. His Canvas page is a mess. He barely goes over the material and expects you to know what you are doing within minutes. He makes you take exams at 7 am and gives you only until 1 or 3pm to finish them. Btw this was for his Summer 1 class. Good luck if you take him, or just take another class.
The class wouldnt be hard if Professor Georgakis wasnt so hot and cold. He can be such a kind human being one day and then remarkably callous and cruel on other days. He seems to simultaneously try really hard to teach well while also sabotage students. Its hard to explain. I hope you just take my word for it and stay away from him.
He is a nice guy but all we do is quizzes. No homework, assignments or anything, only quizzes the entire year.
Great guy but if you don't show up to class you will fail.
1. He offers no assistance in class other than a very mediocre tutor. 2. His grading is absolutely terrible, hell mark you off on things and leave no explanation for it. 3. The class grade is made up of only quizzes and tests, no homework to be graded. 4. Its clear that he doesnt treat online classes any different than in person. PICK SUM1 ELSE!
Go to class, follow examples he solves, take time on tests. He wants students succeess! Will lead you to water, but can not, nor desires to make you drink. He lends every opportunity to students to succeed: no time limits on tests, SHOWS test in class, practice tests are the slightly altered test questions. His stories=hilarious. Accent=legendary.
Professor Georgakis truly cares about his students wellbeing and success. Will help you as much as he can. Any questions you have, he will make sure to answer them thoroughly. He wants you to understand and he does everything he can to support you. Great practice tests. Clear lectures. He will go over real questions from the quizzes/exams. 11/10 (:
Professor Peter Georgakis is the best professor you could truly ask for. Not only is he funny and tells great stories in class he does an even more amazing job at lecturing and explaining Math 114 to his students.
I adored this professor. He was so caring and such a good teacher. I'm not good at math, and he taught so well that I got an A in CALCULUS. He was phenomenal and really, really wanted us to pass and made the class fun, exciting, and relatively easy. Show up to class, make an effort, and he'll make sure you do well. DEF TAKE HIM :))
Get ready to work hard! Professor Georgakis was alright. He graciously allowed open notes on exams and was a fast grader. The homework load was absurd. Kind of a negative class environment at times... wish he was more positive and complained less during class lectures. Sometimes he makes you feel stupid, but overall he can be pretty fair/decent
I had to drop his class because I had a really bad family emergency, and he would not allow me to make up the work I missed in the one week I had to leave. My grade took a huge drop to where I had no other choice but to drop the class with a W! I do not like how he would grade also, be prepared to fail this class even with turning in all your work!
Georgakis is the best math teacher I have ever had. As long as you go to class and put the work in you can absolutely do well in this class. I have never enjoyed math before taking his Math 130. He is willing to help and he takes note of what the class is not understanding. Take him if you can!
Best math teacher I have ever had! I was so nervous about college math but Professor Georgakis is so patient and a great teacher. He keeps people engaged and interested in math. He also has so much life experience doing all different jobs and i really respect that.
Horrible Professor, wouldn't take again. Not understanding or reliable. Don't take this professor
not a good professor, wasn't very helpful and doesn't teach good.
Says he wants you to pass and is there to help you. I found that he was very nonunderstanding when it came to any personal matter. Strict when it comes to attendance. If you don't do the work on time you wont pass period. NO tollarence for late work what so ever.
This guy is the most passive aggressive human I have ever met. However, he explained everything so thoroughly and in easy alternatives to traditional math. Every test/quiz was completely open note including the final.
Class is incredibly easy and easy for students who are not focused on math. Course material is taught using three different methods, and the tutor is allegedly available (I could never get a Zoom meeting with her.) There are very few reasons to fail this course because all you have to do is put in the bare minimum.
He's a good guy but on certain days the dude is hella mean and got mad at kids just for asking a question. 95% of your grade is tests and the other 5% is homework which he gives an insane amount of. He is very hard to get in touch with as he is never in math lab for his "office hours", the class is not for the weak-minded, I had to work very hard.
Great guy with many interesting stories. Calculus was complicated for me, but he made it simple and broke down the steps in his lecture. His practice tests and exams are very similar. Studying is a must, and you'll be alright if you do your homework. You must put in the work if you want to pass. I suggest you show all the work and all the steps.
Peter Georgakis is the worst teacher I have ever had in my entire history of 16 years of schooling. This man is straight up mean, intentionally tried to embarrass me when I would ask questions, graded me unfairly based on the fact that he didn't like me (he made it clear). His class was 2 hours long starting at 8 am. may his karma catch up to him
Georgakis keeps it entertaining by throwing in jokes and explaining math by connecting to the real world. All tests, quizzes and even the final are completely open note and his study guides are extremely accurate to the actual exam material. He is very caring and supportive. The course load is extremely chill. Would recommend!
I took this class in the fall semester, and I still think about how great it was. I'm not amazing with math, but after a few of his lectures something just clicked and it made perfect sense. Excellent teacher, and truly cares about his students
I struggle with math, so this class wasn't easy for me, even though I understand it's pretty elementary stuff. If you need a math class to pass, take this one. I'm horrible at math, yet I still managed to get a B, and I had no clue what was going on. Therefore, anyone with a basic understanding of math should be able to achieve an A.
Really really amazing professor. He's hilarious, great at teaching, he explains math in a very elementary school level way, he makes everything easy to understand. He's very very strict about attendance, and he gives quite a lot of homework, but regardless, I enjoyed his class a lot and I learned a lot from it.
