Interesting lectures, extremely easy tests
Cool teacher. Easy intro lectures. Just prep with textbook and it is all good.
Very easy tests. I don't think he likes us though.
Word for word from the textbook. Damn easy, but not too useful.
boring prof, doesn't focus on text, notes are not useful
BORING LECTURES!! Tests are easy though

boring as hell
Tests are easy if u study well

Nice guy, but very very boring. Resembles a stork.
Easy tests .... boring guy.

Didn't like the course material but his lectures made things more interesting
easy tests...sometimes interesting demonstrations in class..but not very useful.
lectures are boring but make sure you know the lecture stuff on tests!
BORING!! his lectures were awful, notes didnt help and the test was definitions
only passed in boringness by dr. del paulhus. worse than monotone: he is TOO QUIET and you can't hear what he says. tests are easy if you study well - use the study guide. but has begun putting lecture-based questions on exams :(
Yes, he does look like a stork, or maybe a heron. Never ever take a class with this guy if you havn't taken biology. BORING and very hard.
I thought he was a good prof. He tried to make the boring course material interesting and was easy to understand
Interesting course, learned alot from him.
This guy thinks he's God's gift to psychology and he doesn't give a damn about his students. If you have any trouble with the material, go to friends instead of him or his TAs. He'll repeat himself a few times and treat you like an idiot.

he made the course material interesting...of course, it may just be that i'm comparing him to paulus...but he definetly has a bit of an ego.
arrogant. he thinks his students are a bunch of annoying little kids that he's obligated to teach. does not care about students whatsoever.
i go to this class to sleep, so i guess it is kinda useful
lecturing style isn't very clear. sort of rambles on sometimes and it's hard to keep track of what he's saying. not a bad guy, i'm sure, but he could of done a better job explaining the concepts.
Easy but boring class. Lectures are useless, he makes no sense. Study out of the textbook and the study guide for good marks, they do a better job at explaining. He put a things he never touched upon in lectures in midterms, so, buy the textbook!
If u are the memorizing type, take this course. This course is all definition regurgitation. Dont need to go to class to get your A if you start cramming 2 days before exam.
boring lectures that are useless. just eat the whole book and get it out during ur exam word for word. or else one word can do a lot of damage. no understand but all memorizing required.
Coma-inducing lectures. Must read over most minute details from text book to do really really well on his exams, but you can do fine just reviewing the basics.
Holy ego... Not helpful and sooooo boring. Vauge questions out of "left field" on exams, so study the text in detail.
sooooo boring, but read the study guide for finals... questions are word for word
omg, what he talks about in class rarely has anything related to what we need to learn. just blabbers on and on and speaks so damn quickly. he plagiarized the study guide, except for the short answer questions which were hard
You might as well just buy the first year text book instead of taking his class, extremely dull. The guy doesn't even want to be there and it shows.
His midterms and finals are easy. I got good grade while sleeping through most classes.
an inspiring prof with a heck of a lot of experience. has a passion for what he teaches and is friendly and approachable.
This guy knows jack about teaching to a class of 200. He talks about his life instead of teaching and when it comes time for exams, he wants precise definitions. Don't take this course with him if you want to struggle through.
A VERY ORGANIZED PROF. LECTURES WERE WELL-PREPARED AND THOUGHT-OUT AND WAS NICE OUTSIDE OF CLASS.
Relatively easy multiple choice, but hard written b/c he expects u to answer in the way he wants. He thinks that he knows his materials well. Gets boring sometimes.
I've had the midterm so far and it was easy. Just do the study guide (period.) haha. He does get a little on the boring side at times and his class notes aren't that great.
nice prof. I luv his classes.
so easy if u even put a LITTLE effort.. does get a lil boring sometimes.. i hate how he introduces TA's to teach the course

The course is PSYC 100, so it's not really his fault that I kept falling asleep in class. However, he is clearly very interested in what he does, and tries to impart that onto his students. If you have any questions, he's very helpful. Unfortunately, he goes off topic a lot and his TAs suck.
He is a great prof., but sometimes I fall asleep maybe b/c the material was boring or b/c of the way he talks. But, I like when he gives you examples which makes you easier to understand and remember for a longer period. Most importantly, he loves what he is doing.Very Enthusiastic! But not Good TAs.
he's ok. His lectures are kinda boring though and I'd like to say that it was the material, but I'm sure that some of it has to do with the way he talks...it's beyond monotonous. Just put a bit of effort - go to class, read the text, do the study guide - and you'll do DAMN well.
he is a cute prof. he makes me like psyc. just a reminder to everyone, GET THE STUDY GUIDE you will need it when it comes to finals and term tests. a fairly easy course.
Great great prof! :D Encourages students to learn actively rather than passively (somehow manages to have us do standup activities in a lecture of about 200 ppl). STUDY GUIDE for tests and go to lectures cuz they're interesting!!!!

i love graf's class.. really great class!! Try and get him if you can because i heard all the other psych teachers are sooooooooo much harder.. The written was a bit hard.. but overall easy, enjoyable, i love this class!!
His class is sooo BORING!It made me skip quite a few classes or sleep in his class. He uses multiple choice questions from the student guide but the written part is very very hard.Thought i did well in the midterm but i didn't coz the short answers screwed me over. Don't print out his notes-useless !
Most of what he covers in class doesn't appear on the tests. Use your textbook to study. The multiple choice questions are easy, the short answer are a little hard. Overall, he's a pretty average prof.
Rude to students, boring, plagirizes the study guide for tests, doesn't test you on anything in the lectures. Attending his class was not only frustrating but a complete was of time.
if you're planing to do well in your "short answer" section of the exam, you SHOULD attend his classes, cuz printing off the notes and memorizing them wouldn't help. the multiple choice questions were easy though. BORING lectures...
His lectures were very boring and quite irrelevant to what was on the exams. Study guide would definitely help on the multiple choice part of the exam, but short answer questions are extremely hard. The most stupid thing was that he scaled DOWN on the final mark, so we ended up with 3.5% LESS than
Quirky prof, class is not overly difficult but can get quite tricky.
He is an extremely BORING prof. I almost fell asleep every class and for most of the time, half of the class skip. His midterm was very hard and his lecture notes is useless. He gives out difficult written questions. so, if you don't like written questions, don't take him.
Intimidating! Boring!
pros: interesting lecturer, encourages note-taking and coming to class, decent difficulty, punctual cons: tricky tests, sometimes rude, lecture notes seldomly tested, can be rather long-winded, a little impatient
Easy prof!! Gives hints in class as to what the short answers will be. Do the study guide: He gets questions from the study guide! Lots of memorization of the textbook but all the psych 100's are like that! It easy: I studied the text 2 days before the final and got 85%
Do yourself a favour: PRINT the lecture notes, GO TO CLASS and take additional notes, 'cos most of his lecture is only SPOKEN. He brings up interesting, albeit blatantly obvious questions (although obviously still too hard for most people to answer). If you take this only for credits and don't learn to like it, you're your own worst enemy, not him.
very boring lectures, first week was a complete waste of time; gives you interesting cocktail conversational topics though

not that great
i think his voice is really intersting to listen to actually! psychologists these days eh. He's not too bad, i just get the feeling he doesnt really know the material very well...lots is from bio12 in highschool so if you took that, take this!
He's boring, and no additional material is presented in his lectures. Don't bother going. Instead read the textbook (unlike him, it's interesting). I went to less than 4 classes and managed an 86%. He's an excellant prof to take if you're looking for a class to boost your average.
He really deters you from going to lectures because he presents no additional material to what is given in the online notes. It's not so much that he doesn't give interesting lectures, it's just that they're a waste of time!
I can understand many of the negative comments, but if you just print your notes and go to class willing to learn I think it actually becomes a really interesting lecture. At first I thought he was rude and impatient but with time I realized he's very considerate, knowledgable and a great prof.
He's not that bad, sometimes yes it seems like he's a little unsure of things but at least I thought he tried to make us learn. You will benefit more if you're engaged in class but you can get by fine just reading the text and doing the study guide since that's where his questions come from.
He gives fantastic notes. He's very straight forward and easy to listen to.
He's ok but speaks really fast. The classes are pretty boring and don't make a whole lot of sense. The midterm and final were ok. But watch out, he likes short answer questions.
He's a good prof overall. He gives a lot of examples and does a lot of explaining on topics he wants to cover in class. Exams are reasonable as long as you study for them. Study guide does help!
Amazing professor! He really knows how to keep his students engaged in the material. And of course, really easy exams, he gives you everything you need to know. A+s are those who pick up more of the specifics. Good luck!
boring as hell, easy exam, stupid course overall, go figure arts courses pshh what a waste of money
He has easy exams and his lectures aren't bad if you can get past his monotonous voice. Definately a course to take if you're interested or just have spare cash for an elective.
lazy ass prof, email replies are short and useless, lectures are boring as hell , slept though almost all of the ones i went to, went to maybe 5 classes =all useless what pisses me off about this guy is that he won't post the marks up as he said he would f--! stupid arts prof...
Graf is very knowledgable about psychology and is very clear in lectures. The midterm and final have some very lecture specific questions, so attendance is a must. However, most of the exam is MC, and that is pure memorization, straight from the textbook. overall an easy course, but it will take some effort to memorize so many facts!
He is a very lazy, boring prof. It takes much effort to stay awake in his class even if you are a hard working, energetic student. He makes no effort to make thing interesting or clear. He assumes that just because he is the head of psyc department he knows it all and he is very good but trust me his class is hell. If you like to waste your money,
Mediocre. A bit boring, but at least he's fair. I wouldn't take psychology after this, but I blame the subject matter more than him for this.
great teacher, really got me interested in psychology, seems very passionate and informed about what he's teaching
what a dumb and pointless course... such a boring guy... could probably put anyone to sleep. lazy as hell . talks very slowly, sounds like he's mentally challenged. Maybe i should counsel him :P
Awesome Teacher.
I find his class very boring. His voice is super boring. I love the textbook so I usually just sleep during his class. He seems nice though, he's just REALLY boring.
His has a very monotone voice, makes you want to sleep and sort of just read the projector notes out loud, so there isn't really a need to go to class.
Certainly not a prof to get excited about. He was incredibly boring and he didn't really care that nobody gave a shat about what he was talking about. Seemed kinda arrogant considering he is the head of the psych department. Do your best to avoid him! Oh, and his tests were really unfair and stupid! Too many questions in 50 minutes!!!
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO boring class!!!!Don't choose his class, so boring! The text is really great, it's better u read it at home!
He was definitely the most boring prof I had all year. He simply spits out everything he's written in his powerpoint notes, so if you just download those and read them, you're pretty much good for the lectures. Only once or twice did I last throughout the whole lecture without nodding off. His final was also pretty tough.
Don't bother going to the lecture. He posts his Powerpoints (which are closely based on the textbook) online, and his exams are based off the PPTs and textbook. Seriously, you can teach yourself the course if you have him as a prof. Ended up getting an A in his course with minimal effort.
Don't need to go to class with him or probably any PSYC 100 prof. As long as you keep up to date with the readings, you will get an A. Not gonna lie, he is extremely boring... but better than Claire Ashton-James for sure!!!!!
this class is the worst thing ever. dont bother taking any class he teaches. he seems like a nice guy he is just so mindnumblingly boring
Dr. Graf seems like a very nice and caring prof, but I find class boring because everyday, Dr. Graf just reads through his powerpoint notes (which are 95% of the time based from the textbook). If you read the text and go through his notes, you should do fine in this course.
He is boring but you should try your best to pay attention during the lectures! Midterm and final were fair. If you pay attention in lectures, it will making studying for both easier. He gives quizzes that are worth 5% each and they can be tricky. Biggest tip: Keep up to date with readings.
PAINFULLY MONOTONE! I consistently fell asleep 10 mins into every class (although it was a 9am course). The midterm was pretty easy but the final was hard if you don't pay attention to his powerpoints and lectures - he actually does test you on stuff not from the textbook.
I loved him. A bit monotone, but friendly with a dry sense of humor. Stuck with the textbook but used relevant examples in class that helped to clarify.
After taking this class with him I will never take another Psyc class again. His voice made me fall asleep numerous times.
Interested and interesting, worked to clarify issues for all, shows a passion for field, cares that students learn, makes a big effort to help students feel connected to the University
I get what people are saying, the lectures are kind of repetitive. If you read the book, you can actually get bored cuz he gets most of his notes from there. BUT he is very helpful and nice, and will hang around after class to talk and answer questions. You could definitely do worse.
Really good. No surprises. What you read, is what you'll get. Do the reading. Pay attention.
Just go to class, read the textbook and study his lecture slides. This class isn't too difficult if you keep up with all the readings. I find he can be a little unclear when answering questions in class though.
Excellent.
Totally agree with someone else's comment. Doing the pre-reading is mandatory (you have to do online pre-reading tests), but actually reading the textbook makes the lectures very boring. Otherwise, nice professor, who seems genuinely interested in helping students succeed (/memorize things).
he is a nice prof, and the class average is quite high. but i didn't do well on it, cuz his lecture is so boring.......he reads the ppt and things on ppt were all taken from the textbook. now i have no interest in psychology and i was considering it as my major in high school...... dont take it if you are expecting an INTERESTING course ..
Horrendous class, very unfair marking. Completely turned me off the course. Very rude teacher.
Like everyone has said, so boring. Try to get a diff prof if you want to pursue pysch, Graf will turn you off of it. Good thing was his midterm was pretty easy. READ THE TEXTBOOK AND WRITE DOWN THE QUESTIONS HE ASKS IMPLICITLY IN CLASS
I just finished my Psyc 101 course and I have to say he deserves better than the rating he's got right now. Yes, he is VERY boring, but he is also a very fair marker and his midterms and finals are based mostly on the textbook, so if you study enough, you'll do well.
Meh. That sums him up pretty well I think. He's a nice enough guy. Terribly boring. Midterm + final pretty easy - in-depth reading of the book is enough to get a good grade. Did I mention SO incredibly boring?
This course is boring but I don't think that's his fault. It was an introductory to psychology course! I think you can do much worst than Dr. Graf if you want a decent mark though. Just be prepared to actually go to class and read the textbook (Emphasis on READ the text since his exams are based on this text) and you will get a good mark
Professor Graf is terribly boring and he wasn't very helpful when I emailed him either. He seems pretty lazy and when I asked him a question that he didn't know the answer to right away, he didn't want to bother to search and just said he didn't know. His exams were based on the text and that's a lot of memorizing if the prof doesn't help.
He gives a lot of examples in class and if you listen to them, it might help on the exam. But the exam IS based mostly on the textbook, so just memorize and you should be fine!
I found this course so boring and Professor Graf's voice wasn't very engaging either. His lectures put half the class to sleep! The material was boring, but there were no assignments.
Pretty boring guy. All class, I would either just dose off or do other work on my laptop. He regurgitates the textbook for the most part, only adding a bit of new information. The best bet is to keep up with the readings (keep notes!!!), compare them with his notes. No need to go to class except for i-clicker marks
Perhaps the most organised professor I've encountered so far. Teaching style was clear and effective and has a true passion for the field. Can be opinionated and quirky at times. Has a dry sense of humour.
Not sure why people complain about him. Only assignments are textbook readings; lectures are very informative and help you understand the material well. Tests are very reasonable; a little easy, even.
A very effective instructor.
Here is a very dedicated professor who truly cares about his students' learning experience. You can rarely find another one who reads and replies to just about every single post on Vista. Gives interesting real-life examples. Highly recommended!
MOST BORING PROF EVER. Avoid if you can....I think he tries to be interesting, but the end result is usually monotone rambling that puts the class to sleep. He demands brevity and conciseness in his students' research reports, but fails to take his own advice when teaching. I also found him to be rather rude and inflexible in his thinking.
Do the work, pay extra attention to his lectures, and try to remember anything that is taught beyond the textbook (e.g. NOIR scale types, cognitive biases, memory effects, etc.). This way, not only will you do fine on his exams, you'll also be well equipped for 200+ level courses in psychology.
Careless, monotonous, and hypocritical. If there's another PSYC 101 class available and you want to actually learn and earn grades fairly, take that one. Dr. Graf's classes are almost useless which is why he includes lecture material on his exams to force attendance. Too bad the class is half empty by mid October when people see him for who he is..
I had never fallen asleep in a class before attending his class. He would do 10-30 minute introductions about nothing related to the course material. He didn't mark a single thing in our course (had TA's mark exams and fellow students mark essays via PeerScholar). He asks you to answer questions word for word with what he said in class.
UNBEARABLE CLASS, PSYCH 101 SHOULD BE SIMPLE AND FAIRLY BASIC, BUT HE MAKES IT COMPLICATED. I COME TO EVERY SINGLE CLASS ONLY TO KNOW THE S/A QUESTIONS WHICH IS WORTH ONLY 1 MARK EACH. HE TALKS TOO FAST WHICH MAKES YOU FRUSTRATED.
Not helpful at all. He didn't score any assignments or exams. And he didn't give any feedback. The exams are also depend on what he said in class, which contains a lot of stuff not in the book.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. He is rude to his students and blames them for his own errors. He singles one out for personal humiliation. He does not mark anything himself and your paper grade is based on a peer review. As far as I am concerned this man does not belong in a classroom.
Graf is rather arrogant and unhelpful while his email responses are brief and meaningless. He tends to use turnitin where students grade each other's papers; this causes papers to be given random grades based on luck more than ability. He has unreasonable expectations for tests, wanting word for word answers to things he mentions in class.
I have never been so bored in a class before!! He talks too fast and is hard to understand, and is overall not a very helpful professor. Not taking any classes with him again.
Peter's really not that bad of a professor, but I didn't like how he taught quite differently from the material in the textbook. As well, he doesn't really have patience with people who ask him questions. The midterm and exams were on quite trivial things too.
Lessons were boring, was very unhelpful when contacted by emails. Likes to cover out of the textbook materials and in the finals everything is tested. Does NO marking, and doesn't care about student's grades. As a result of peer evaluations, grades obtained are highly subjective and he does nothing but scale them down. My worst 1st year prof
Class can be challenging, but remember that there is scaling at the end. He is an excellent lecturer, and if you happen to go to his office hours, you'd find that he is a very nice person! (Even though he seems very strict in class). He is fair and reasonable, despite what many students believe. You just need to put a lot of effort into this class.
Dr. Graf is an extremely fair professor who gives his students every opportunity to succeed through multiple assignments, quizzes, reports, etc. Read the textbook thoroughly and listen in class - anything he says is testable! I only wish the research report wasn't peer marked because most students didn't even know what a research report was.
Very helpful prof, dedicated and intelligent. His lectures were interesting and helped me build up my interest in psychology. However, he likes to cover a lot from his own material but test everything from his lecture and the textbook, so you have to study both to get a decent grade. A lot of effort is needed but it's worth it.
Decent professor, lectures were interesting. Peer reviewed essay system could have worked out better - based on luck, some markers don't even read your essay before they mark it. Exams were fairly easy. The majority of it is multiple choice and can be obtained from the textbook. The short answers require information from lectures though!
Terrible prof. If you are registered in Psych 101 do your best to find a different prof for this course. His lectures are dry and read directly from the powerpoint, there is no point in showing up to lectures because all of the information is in the text, and he tests us on the most pointless information. He doesn't seem to care about his students.
a nice guy overall, but incredibly boring. read the textbook and keep up online study materials in the key to get good grade.
Generally a very easy teacher. But he uses moodle, which is a site that allows students to peer evaluate each other, which makes marks very unreliable. Very boring, and doesn't explain things well. The only reason why class is "mandatory" is because he uses iclickers.
If this isn't a deterrent from taking Graf's class I don't know what is: I had a very rough first semester and finished Psych with a 49% final grade. I e-mailed P.Graf and asked if I could submit any extra credit to boost my grade 1%. He apologizes and says he'll take another look at my mark. I check SSC a week later. My mark is now 46%. Thanks.
Very helpful with feedback but has incredibly difficult expectations.
One of the most frustrating courses I have ever taken. He takes simple concepts and makes them extremely confusing. Requires you to buy a 100$ course code. Uses random in class quizzes that are very unorganized. He completely disregards his students. He is only there to get paid to teach, he could care less what happens to his students. DO NOT TAKE
Effective teacher and interesting person to talk with. May seem impatient or aloof as he has zero tolerance for sloppiness (even if unintentional) from students. Extremely knowledgable professor whose research is highly-cited and influential. Gives superb advice & shows passion and dedication for supporting motivated students. Quirky sense of humor
He starts you off by giving all these programs you have to sign up for and NON OF THEM WORK. He insist that they are all necessary, but you don't need them at all. He has to everything the hard way, he will create you a moodle account, a piazza account and a TurnITin account, . Overall he will overload you with work, with midterm and major essay
Graf knows his subject. He gives clear guidelines for what he expects from you. He is also tough. Read study and attend class. Do not be discouraged by his tough love attitude. Ask and you will get answers. He is fair, but old school. Learning is what you make of it. you can do this
Boring, has a mentality where he expects everyone to be stupid (probably because it was a first year course).
Avoid taking this course with this prof. Lecture material is interesting, but the prof is so condescending that you'll wish you had dropped the course within the first month. Bigger assignments are pointless, all marking is done intentionally to force lower grades because apparently this course isn't supposed to be free like other lectures.
He is the worst. I would never recommend this prof to anyone. His lectures are boring, I wish I took it with another prof. He responds to emails and questions on discussion forums in an unfriendly manner, and will not answer questions if he thinks that they are "dumb" Also, you have to spend $130 for aplia quizzes worth only 6% of the whole grade.
Tough prof. You will need to work for your mark (and for answers! He's very intolerant of sloppiness and "stupid questions". Ask for help properly). I found the lectures to be interesting, while the content was indeed rather difficult. Apply yourself, however, and you can certainly do well in this course.
Not too hard to pass. You better come every class, because he has iclicker questions in class. It's true you have to pay more than 100$ book+launchpad, but it's useful. Except midterm and final you have almost 40% on other easy do things. Need to pay attention on class. And find a good classmate.
Graf knows his stuff, and makes it exceedingly clear how he grades the course. Lots of "free" marks, so the class is easy to pass. As a 2nd year with a STAT background I found his exams fairly easy, but a 1st year would likely find them very difficult. For a truly good grade, attend every lecture and take good notes. Hard work pays with this prof.
Highly recommend not taking this prof when choosing psyc 101, monotone voice makes you want to sleep in every class. Lectures are not very helpful, course materials will be uploaded to connect. Technically you can get a good grade by merely reading the textbook.
pretty rude, a girl was 5 minutes late to the first quiz and he wouldn't let her take it. Do not recommend this class at all, ridiculously hard, average final mark was 54
If you have great interest in psyc, you should not enroll this course. You are going to understand why if you enrolled.
Difficult prof but he's to-the-point and does not dumb things down for you like a lot of other profs these days. I wouldn't use the "amazing lectures" tag here but his lecture content's concisely structured and informative thus good in my opinion. Attitude could have been a little less tough though, given that it's a 100-level course.
Quite an easy class to pass yet rather difficult to get an "A" range grade. Course content was clearly delivered but assessments required a highly detailed understanding of the material. As people have commented on his PSYC101 class, this prof can be very tough (but still reasonable). Workload was heavy.
Didn't care for his style. Others seemed to like it. Too much busy work that interfered with learning about the material. Very big on peer reviews. Good for those that like that kind of stuff. Also, requires small group discussions and he will make sure to question each group. Not good if you prefer to work on your own. Good slides.
He was very upfront about all expectations for the class, and gave constant reminders on when assessments were do. He always paused after a topic and asked if there were any questions on the material, which I found very useful for it ensured clarity right at the beginning. There was lots of reading, but only constant homework biweekly onlinequizzes
Strict. Has extremely high expectations on writing style and on almost every detail of experimental design. Really challenges you to extend your intellectual boundaries. However, you will receive tons of excellent advice and feedback provided you are a diligent student.
LOTS OF HOMEWORK!!!!!!!!!!! If you don't need this class for your major, don't take it! Its not a good elective! It takes up a lot of your time--time which could be spent focusing on your required courses for your major! He is a good prof, tries to keep class interesting (ish), provides class notes, although they are not really thorough! Good luck!
Hardest thing I've ever done, the exams are really hard, and he thinks the textbook/launchpad is great when it is quite the crap way to learn. He is a really good lecturer, its just way to hard. If you think this is an easy A elective it definitely isn't
I found him really rude sometimes with some of his comments in class. Heavily dependent on launchpad. He fell behind in his lectures. I honestly only showed up to class for the attendance mark and managed to learn everything through the launchpad/textbook. He also makes a part of your grade how much you use Piazza lol.
He's a phenomenal lecturer in my opinion, and I understand a lot of things about psychology after the class. The term paper and exams are BS though. Exams are ridiculous amounts of rote memorization and regurgitation on 100+ MC and SA. The grades got scaled up a good 15% though, and you can earn a bonus 3% by doing studies. NOT A GPA BOOSTER.
Dr. Graf is hands down one of the best profs I have had at UBC. He cares immensely for students if you care. He is a great lecturer. Exams are hard but thats standard of first year psych courses, 50% of the course grades are allocated to small participation aspects that are EASY marks. I would 100% take this class with him again.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS EXPECTING A PSYCH CLASS, I made the mistake thinking it was a psychology class but it is basically a biology class. Only take this class if you are going to do the psychology stream
He is an awesome lecturer. He is funny and he cares about his students. He sometimes may be harsh on his students but other than that I would take his class again.
Not gonna lie didn't really know what was going on throughout the course, his lectures were hard to understand and also boring. I found the exams really hard and you get marked on piazza participation.
Before taking the course with this prof I was skeptical because of all the negative reviews. He sets very clear expectations! Material is manageable 7 chapters. Gives participation marks. Exams are FAIR follow his instructions he says textbook they are from textbook and lectures for short answer. Really a treat if you put in the work.
Although Mr. Graf is a professor, I would not consider him a teacher. Notes are taken straight out of the textbook, so if you read it you will do fine on the unit tests made by Launchpad. However, even if you study there will likely be non-psych related questions on the Final that you cant answer. If youre lucky he wont be condescending to you.
I didn't find psych with Peter Graf particularly challenging, it was just kind of boring, with only a few genuinely interesting lectures. Posting on Piazza is mandatory (for marks!) but get ready for him to give harsh feedback on your answers. There are lots of quizzes as well, although, to be fair, they do help you succeed in the class.
Peter has boring lectures but it depends whether you find the content interesting. Participation comes in the form of Piazza discussions and is a must that you participate for marks and it will help you for short answer exam questions. There's an essay for this course which is peer marked. You can also earn 3% bonus for research participation.
He's an alright professor. He tries to make the class interesting by relating the course to the real world. However, the slides aren't useful unless you attend class. You'll be confused in class if you don't read the chapter a week beforehand. You can pass the class by just reading the textbook. He also grades you on discussing on Piazza.
Always gives you feedback on your in-lecture answers which directly relates to exams.
Comparing to other professors teaching this course, he does great content during the lecture. If you really want to get start to learn psychology, he provides many inspirational information during the lecture. He is calm and chill professor. The class atmosphere isnt as stressed as other lecture
He is and excellent prof who makes lectures interesting and everything is always clear because he uses so many examples. if you ever ask him for help, he will give incredible constructive feedback.
If you have an option to have another teacher for PSYC 101, please for the love of god switch. This prof is the most unprofessional teacher I have had the liberty of being exposed to at a college level, he's demeaning & verbally abusive to a degree that made me stop asking questions. Thinking of changing my major from psychology just because of him
Very unprofessional approach to teaching, more of a speech in every lecture and is lacklustre. Makes students feel uncared for in class and unmotivated to work. SO dependant on online activities and use of text book. Overall a negative experience
I loved taking this course from him and the content. We had a heavy workload but it surely made a difference between other classes because all of my friends in this course got a higher grade than the other classes. We had to read the chapters, finish learning curve questions and chapter quizzes after every chapter. Not a GPA booster def.
Easy midterm and final multiple choice but hard short answer, however one-third of marks from the multiple-choice, knowledgable prof, will take again!
Nice and passionate prof, but get ready to work hard by reading the textbook and his lecture notes in order to pass since he scales the grades. Clear on grading criteria, but tough on students when they ask him questions that can easily be found in the syllabus
Graf gets a lot of diss for being a boring lecturer, but the content of the course isn't hard. Obviously PSYC requires reading of the textbook however his PPTs summarizes nicely what is needed for the exams. As well iclicker points & the paper are an easy GPA booster (literally graded by students). Final was difficult though. Overall, great course!
The course itself is very dense as it is, and he just makes it harder. There is a lot of homework. A LOT. Lectures are very fast paced and cover a lot of information, but that's just the nature of the course.
For any first year student I wouldn't recommend Dr. Graf. He makes the class super content heavy and is overall unorganized.
Too many homeworks. Using Iclicker for attendence. Need to reply lots of questions on piazza.
Attendance to lectures/recording is mandatory since iClicker is used for in-class questions. Participating in psychology research is required (maybe from the faculty). Assignment description, rubric, and feedback are all VERY unclear. You never know why you received a grade. NOT showing respectfulness to students !! Will never take again.
He's organized, and nice and clear powerpoints. Easy to listen to his lectures. Not intimidating.
Very heavy and boring lectures. Have to do so much homework
Professor Graf has been very organized during cover and gives a challenging but manageable workload. He expects a lot in and out of class (iClicker, Piazza participation, quizzes and textbook activities) so you need good time management to succeed, but all these things really do help learn a lot better. He cares about students and is understanding.
Dr Graf is really knowledgeable on psychology and always explained things in a clear way. He encourages critical thinking through activities on Piazza and iClicker, which is great! This course is really easy if you pay attention to lectures and take notes on the book chapters. Final exam was easy but heavy, just make sure you understand the content
Absolutely despised this class. I love psychology, but his teaching style was just not it for me. Professor Graf is fairly disorganized and doesnt show much sympathy for students. I wouldnt recommend taking his class..
He really threw the gauntlet at people, with in-class clicker questions (graded on both participation AND accuracy!), Piazza responses (you needed like 30 to get full credit), and homework (which barely resembled the lectures). I actually enjoyed his lectures because he's witty and passionate, but this was a surprisingly tough class.
Before taking this class I read so many negative comments here that I honestly got scared. And, contrary to so many reviews, my experience with Mr Graf was great. He is a knowledgeable prof, who gave amazing lectures and clearly explained everything. Although demanding, he was very fair, motivating and understanding. All you have to do is study:)
A few online platforms, but you'll get the hang of it. Just answer at least 2 of the discussion questions each time they're posted and you'll hit the number no problem. There's also extra credit from studies. As long as you use common sense and go to class you should be fine, reading the textbook doesn't hurt
Personally, I had a great time in this class. He is funny and is understanding timezone differences. Papers were fairly easy IMO. You needed 50 Piazza contributions but with so many posts he makes if you try you can get well over a 100. Tests were similar to the Textbook questions - many questions but fine difficulty-wise. Participate Pass.
Professor Graf is okay! He can be rough around the edges but is overall very knowledgeable. Lots of homework assigned from the textbook, and you have to do all the readings or else lectures won't make sense. On my first midterm with him, he tested us on material that hadn't yet been taught in a lecture. But he's not the worst prof in the world
I swear profs that use iClickers only do so because they're insecure that nobody would go to their lectures if they didn't. And frankly I definitely would have skipped a lot more classes if he didn't force us to do like six questions per class for credit.
not sure why dr. graf assigns all homework to be due BEFORE he talks about the concepts in lectures, but it causes you to rush assignments without actually learning. lectures are very fast-paced which makes learning difficult and he does not post the slides until after class. he also uses piazza and iclicker WAY TOO MUCH. overall, very demanding.
Discusses content after quizzes/assignments are already due and effectively makes you come to lectures so you can participate in iclicker questions worth part of your grade. Textbook isn't needed, but you need to buy it so that you can have access to the quizzes and assignments (I recommend the online version which is significantly cheaper).
Overall okay guy, but assigns a lot of microassignments that pile up and aren't weighed enough for the amount of effort they take. Tests are fairly easy, if you've gone over the material beforehand you can snag a 70 or higher. The prof did post the lectures online which was very helpful. I do dislike the emphasis on participation for grades though.
The syllabus said the final was 60MC and 15SA. A couple of days before the final he posted that it was 70MC and 30SA. Yes, 30 short answers. Assigns a lot of homework and the grade distribution is kinda wack in my opinion lol.
I loved this class. At the start of the term, when I saw the long syllabus and all the microassignments -- which I estimated to be about 20% for just showing up -- I was put off. But my mind did a complete 180 as the term went on. All that "participation" actually did wonders for learning the material, and there's a lot to learn. Graf is awesome!
One of my worse professors this term. His lectures were not engaging at all, his lectures were so heavy, and it made it hard to concentrate.
The final was unbelievable. In the syllabus, we were told we would have significantly fewer questions than we did. It ended up being 70MC and 30 short answers. Yes IK 30! the short answer in two hours. I studied exactly how he suggested and I still failed, it looks like he doesn't skew grades either.
the professor is good in explaining the lectures, but the course was so heavy, lots of homework with deadlines, toughly graded, I spent half of the course working on this course, take the class only if u have 2 courses registered during the semester.
